Should we get a signet of speed?

in Engineer

Terrahero.9358

SERIOUSLY ???!!!
WHY waste a slot on a signet skill when we get swiftness from equipping any kit ?(perma swift) AND with another trait : swiftness triggers vigor.
This (in my eyes) is about the only redeeming feature of this proffession- it allowed me to mine in areas 20 lvls higher (with turrets purely for diversion/delaying) very handy for my low lvl jeweller alt

Because perhaps not everyone wants to spec 10pts into tools?

Thats the difference. We get our speed, but its all from traits. 10pts into tools atleast, and requires constant button mashing, but you do get a bit more speed out of it.
Or a master trait in inventions iirc (30pts) to get what every other profession gets as a basic signet.

Switching to a signet and getting a nice speedboost while you run around for your gathering or pve or just to cover a distance is easy, requires no real sacrifice and gives you a comfortable speed boost for when you dont need that slot for something else.

But you cannot go around changing your whole spec on the fly. Either you have access to the trait by speccing a certain way, or you dont.

The weirdest thing is I got a ruined plant fiber with an ORI sickle, can someone explain me this please

Yes.

Any traits or runes that proc from taking damage, or when your health drops to a certain point (for example, 75%), will screw up your gathering.
While you are gathering, and a mob is beating on you, you will sort of “cast a spell”. After this proc, all your gatherings will fail.
If you are fast enough you can stop gathering and then do it again, now it will work again.

Why exactly this happens i do not know. I have 6/6 Runes of the Pack on my maingear, and when it procs (procs randomly from taking damage) my gatherings fail and i get ruined produce.
I make sure i got no traits that proc from taking damage (i know this happend from traits aswell), and i switch out pieces of my gear to no longer have the proc effect from Runes by breaking the set bonus. Then, i go gathering.

Boons keep you alive?

Funny then how it makes me take less dmg and the enemy more. Maybe it only really works for bunkers.

Maybe your profession has a trait that does this, altough i dont remember any such trait. But baseline retaliation DOES NOT reduce incomming damage.
Hence why its a pointless boon when we are talking about boons keeping people alive.

Unless you wanna go down the “but it kills enemies a tiny bit faster!”, but then we must include Might aswell as a boon that keeps you and your allies alive longer.

The point is, They hinted that the Engineer was somehow special and that it was the profession that uses boons to keep himself and other alive.
Funny because so does the Guardian, Ele and Necro and they all do it considerably better then an Engineer ever could.

Terrahero.9358

The buffs that keep people alive are Stability and Protection. With Aegis to a lesser extent.
We cannot do Aegis, we cannot reliably keep Protection or Stability on allies. Leaving us with Regeneration.

You could switch those runes over to almost any other profession and be way more effective.

Nope. They procc every 10 secs and any class who has a higher switch time than that is LESS effective. Anyways, the point is Engineer can take maximum advantage of those runes, I.E no other class could do a better job at team buffing with the runes alone (or self buffing) but maybe not a worse job either.

And the point was not if the buffs are engineer-spcific or not but if they helped keeping you alive.

Shout warriors got a lame 15 sec CD shout that does mediocre healing. I can provide constant means of area retaliation in an area while also healing.

Weaponswapping in combat is a 10sec cd, pre-traits some professions have to reduce that cooldown. Attunement switching also triggers this. We might not use it worst, but we dont use it a whole lot better either.
And it is irrelevant, because were talking about Engineer abilities here. Not something commonly available. These buffs can help anyone keep themselves or others alive.

But they wouldnt need it so much now would they? I can go on my Guardian, and without spending a single traitpoint i will always be able to instantly grant myself and allies in a 1200range with Protection, Stability, Regeneration, Aegis, Swiftness and Retaliation. All at the same time, while youre still throwing around small AoE elixirs, hoping to proc Protection.

Not that Retaliation matters much since it doesnt prevent damage from happening, or mitigates that damage.

Does anyone else see the massive flaws here? Please correct me if I am wrong, but is the Warrior profession a MELEE style profession? And the Engineer is a Ranged Class? Why does the warrior have a range advantage? A dmg advantage? A mobility control advantage? A vulnerability advantage? Really? Bear in MIND this is NOT THE WARRIORS MAIN MEANS OF COMBAT. So a Warriors secondary combat system is better than the Engineers PRIMARY COMBAT SYSTEM?

There are a couple of distinctions to be made here.

First, there isn’t really a concept of ‘melee’ professions and ‘ranged’ professions.

I think this is the point many people miss. Outside of the Engineer profession, stuff works much better and more “as intented”.
The Warrior isnt a melee profession, its doing what its suppose to do good. Everything, just like every other profession.
Every other profession, except the Engineer. Now i know a Thief isnt as much support as a Guardian, and a Guardian isnt as strong ranged as a Ranger. But the idea is there, every profession should be able to fill every role.

Thats a shortcomming in our profession, the Warrior doesnt need its ranged tuned down (well, except Killshot, one-shotting 5 ppl is kinda op…) but we need to get our ranged buffed. Considerably. Seeing as we have no viable means of performing long-range combat, outside of target-dummy like fights.
We need to spend a major trait just to get our Rifles autoattack to reach 1200range. And thats the only ability that reliably deals damage at 1200range. Everything else is either unreliable (grenade kit), or more often doesnt come anywhere near 1200(mostly everything else, including most Rifle abilities).

So yeah, everyone’s complaining. So everyone needs to get attention. And they can’t give a few professions more attention than others.

Really? Because theyve been giving a lot of attention to Elementalist. Theyve had their stat scaling on conjure weapons adressed. Theyve had their attunements adressed to work with sigils loooong before we did. They had their horrible downed state fixed, to what is now one of the best.

Some pretty big and good things happend for Elementalist. So they are kitten well spending more time on one profession then the next. And honestly, they should. But focus on the professions that need it.
Fix the professions that shipped with the most bugs and issues first.

If you keep working on all profensions evenly, the one or two that are behind the curve will never ever catch up.
And it would also inspire a lot more convidence. Sure your profession didnt get its pass this time, but you know you are getting a turn. And then you will have the devs undivided attention to really take a look at it. Instead of haphazerdly skimping across all professions, and only helping those that your dev team plays a lot themselves (cough, cough Warrior.)

Please describe this mythical “support” in a real-game situation.

Its actually quite easy. Anything you do to directly aid your allies is considered support. Mostly this comes down to healing and granting boons.

Not something id say Engineer does amazingly well either. It needs to spec deep and very specifically to reliably grant something like Might. Which then comes from tossing Elixirs around, with fairly lenghty cooldowns and small area of effects.

In the meantime i can gear and trait my Guardian for offense and damage. And without any clunky mechanics i can instantly use 3 utility skills granting myself and my allies: Retaliation, Stability, Protection, Swiftness, Regeneration and Aegis. Every 30sec.

A warrior doesnt need to spec anything, and just use 1 utility skill to keep 3 stacks of Might up, permanently, aswell as Fury on himself and nearby allies. No tossing anything, just press the button, thats conveniently not even on globalcooldown so it specifically doesnt interupt your combat flow.
And thats something we need to equip 3 elixirs for and spec 30pts into Alchemy.

in Engineer

Terrahero.9358

Its an easy metric yes, but that doesn’t mean its good or valuable, especially when evaluating a profession which isn’t made to shove out large amounts of damage constantly. It great for warriors and elementalist however.

Its a hold over from an older era of rpg gaming were damage or healing were the only things that mattered. There is more to the game than just raw damage output over time, and hence I’m baffled why people still get caught up in it. If it is that much of an issue, play axe warrior and sit on things with chop > double chop > triple chop.

Is engineer damage at an acceptable level? Yes it is, if you played during beta 1 you know exactly what dealing no damage was. Do engineers have the highest DPS? no, and they never will. Is that ok? Yes because not all professions fill the same roles the same way. A damage orientated engineer isn’t going to be burning things down like a staff ele or a warrior but they bring other options to the table to support the team.

And who are you to state if Engineer damage is at an acceptable level? Most seem to strongly disagree with you.

There is plenty of content in this game you do alone, and here is a big shock, it all comes down to killing stuff. As an Engineer you take longer, much longer, then other professions to work your way through the same content.

Based on what merrit is this acceptable? Certainly not the games original design goals, which state all professions should be good at everything. Hey what do you know, all professions are suppose to fill all roles. That is clearly not the case.

And what about those who simply wish to play as damage dealer? They should just reroll? Because Engineer cannot compare, nor compete, with any other profession. Neither would the devs allow this to happen.
Would be sweet of the devs if they could then just start labeling professions with the roles they are suppose to fill. Something they specifically said wouldnt be the case since again, all professions should be able to fill every role.

But truth be told, such labeling would just be unique for the Engineer. " Cant excell at anything, not as versatile and we will never allow it to come even close to other professions in terms of damage". All the other professions get the “can do everything”. But atleast such labels would give new players fair warning.

The only communcation we have is about that design thing they had in mind, the one that has so many people up in arms. Besides that, nothing.

Play an Engineer because you like the concept, not for serious pve, wvw or pvp. And you’ll have to accept that stuff dies much slower then with your other character. If Guildwars 2 Hardmode sounds like fun, then by all means have yourself a time.

If you actually want to play an Engineer as an equal member of society, i think you’re in for a long wait. Im suspecting the upcomming patches will only hold more nerfs, as they nerf the few obscure builds and other builds that are getting a little to close to other professions in performance. Something they do not want.

I wonder if they even look at the population balance.

Untill the devs critically rethink the design begind the Engineer and come to realize the fundamental flaws they are building it upon, we will not see the needed positive change.

Engineer

The Engineer is a highly versatile class. While it doesn’t have the long range capabilities of the Ranger, or the melee capabilities of the Warrior or Guardian, they are comfortable at medium ranges in most fights. They have a lot of control, and use their boons to keep themselves (and allies) alive in a fight. They can use different kits based on the situation, but this extreme versatility comes at a cost in damage on their main hand weapons.

Engineers are known as the king of crowd control and excels in versatile and boon if built for it.

King of CC, should we actually spec for it. Meaning, getting very specific kits and utilities aimed entirely at CC. Without that, we dont have more control then the next profession.
And then our control consists mostly out of knockbacks. Typically worthless in PvE since bosses are immune to 5 out of 6 CCs, and countered very easily by the numerous Stability some professions bring.

And then i still wonder, do we really have more control then certain other professions when they spec for it? A guardian with staff, hammer and certain utility skills can control an entire area.

I dont know what versatile boons you are talking about to be honest. We apply might with throw elixir if specced for it, and some random boons based on the luck of the draw on specific elixirs.
Then comes along a Guardian and plomps down aoe stability, protection, swiftness, aegis, retaliation and regeneration. Without even trying, or having to trait for it. All we reliably bring is Might. So does a warrior (plus Fury), and he doesnt need to spec for it either, and it only costs him 1 utility slot.

Our boons are not versatile at all, and still require heavy speccing before that kind of playstyle is possible. Yet you will still fall short of other professions, especially a guardian and necro, who dont have to try at all to get numberous boons, reliably without RNG, on multiple allies. And without speccing greatly for it.

And this is the point many raise, and rightly so. We arent versatile at all, we need to spec deeply and sacrifice a lot to just fit into a role. And if we dont, we cannot perform that role worth a single kitten And when we do, were still worst then other professions, in some cases even if those other professions dont even spec for it.

“If progression is not what the hard core WvW guilds want, it’s doesn’t really matter. WvW needs to cater to the militia, they are the ones that will fill maps.”

This is simply not true. The hardcore WvW guilds carry the server. Its ever so clear on Desolation, if the server is losing in general or losing on a specific borderland, people simply dont play or dont play on that borderland.
Getting such insanities as outmanned on the middle of a sunday afternoon on 2 of the 3 borderlands. And a queue on the one borderland where we arent losing heavily. Coincidense thats also the borderland where the WvW guild is? I think not.

We have discussed this many times within the guild and even with other guilds, other people and the pug need to start pulling their weigth. Frankly, they simply do not. Saying the pugs carry the server is utter nonsense, except for the few well behaved WvW-experienced pugs (a minority) the PvE-scrubs only show up for easy glory or they dont show up at all.
And without a hardcore WvW guild or guilds pulling the server, the majority of the pugs dont show up either.

Catering to those kind of players will lead to hardcore WvW players leaving. And then you will have 600 pugs running around, facerubbing gates and upgrading nothing, and coordinating for kitten.
Zerg rushing all over the map, capping but not defending. Then what is the point of having upgrades, guildbuffs or even siege when you dont have the playerbase that was commited enough to WvW to actually use these?

Yet another QQ about 100% zone completion.

Thats the same logic as Warrior and its bullcharge plus 100B. It works against scrubs, but truely your entire faceroll combo can be negated if someone just avoids your Magnet. Dodge or Stability.

Its not very hard, the magnet is a massive warning sign of YOU ARE GOING TO BE PULLED TOWARDS ME. It has a long casttime of 1sec aswell.

It works because people are not experienced in underwater combat, especially not against the least played professions.

Underwater combat : another joke

Terrahero.9358

lol – now you nonfactors start kittening about engineer underwater combat? really? ^^

Now? Ive said this back in the beta. Engineer underwater is complete kitten against an opponent that knows to keep his distance from you.
The moment an opponent will stick to 900-1200 range and keeps moving, you pretty much cannot deal any damage with grenades or speargun.

The best weapon is Elixirgun. Not that those 600crits are anything to celebrate, but atleast you actually hit.
Speargun is great in PvE, where you can swim close and unload triple Mines in somethings face for very high damage. And stuff doesnt move all over the place, so your Torpedo and Grenades can actually hit.

An opponent swimming away in a straigth line will outrange the torpedo so long as he was more then roughly 150range away from you when you fired.
Try it yourself. Get underwater, swim in a straight line and fire your Speargun. Note how the projectile doesnt get all that far away from you when it reaches max range.

Lets count our blessings underwater combat isnt all that common and most people suck at it. Because, again, anyone that just keeps a reasonable distance from the Engineer simply has a free kill. And there isnt really anything we got to close the distance, the only “gapcloser” also launches the Engineer back. If the enemy dodges it, you just got an even bigger gap. And it is easy to dodge.

WvW drops are bad its sad

in WvW

Terrahero.9358

Well lower level players do go down much easier. Especially in zerg on zerg a lv80 zerg will easily wipe a zerg twice or even three times its size if its all lv20s.

But that is just one example. There are situations where level doesnt matter, for example sitting on siege. Or when scaling takes the kitten and awards you with a 30k HP Guardian and a 1,8k per tick non-crit Ranger with its Volley. Some people deliberately use lower levels to exploit crooked scaling, especially with guild buffs.

So i agree with you that loot from such players shouldnt be dramatically worst. And it currently is. Take note, the lootbags can also contain lootbags (lol lootbag inside a lootbag). The bags from higher level players are of a higher quality and can contain T6 materials. Or you get salvageables that can be turned into t5/t6 materials.
Possibility of ectos from rares, exotics, ancient wood salvage, ori ore salvage, powerful blood and other fine T6 mats to even cores and lodestones.

WvW drops are bad its sad

in WvW

Posted by: Terrahero.9358

The drops from bags are based on the level of the target you killed. It seems you are fighting a lot of low level players.
The loot scaling added in PvE, where low level mobs still reward you appropriate to your level loot (sometimes) doesnt seem to apply in WvW.

So you wont see (or very unlikely) any lv70 or higher rares from enemies that arent level70+ themselves. Its where most of my woolcloth has come from, low level (around lv20) players in WvW.

Anyway, if you are suddenly fighting another server a lot, or there is some real-life thing going on, that causes a massive influx of low level players into your enemies WvW (Like, i duno… holidays…) you will suddenly see a steep drop in loot quality.

Engineers underperformance is by design, it is intented.

This is not a case of devs simply having to get around and buffing/fixing stuff. They think Engineer is in a good spot, we are suppose to be weaker.
So if you find some way to be almost as good as another profession, it will likely get nerfed.

This is a case of devs having to critically rethink their design filosophy for the Engineer. So dont expect any positive changes anytime soon. Instead, expect more nerfs as people desperatly try crazier and crazier builds to compete with other professions (flamenommer, hello?). And this is not intented, so these builds will be identified and nerfed over the next couple of months.

Easy fix is, you cant use the portals of towers/keeps when in the Downed-state mistform. You still have a very good survival tool, better then average. That will save your life a lot when near allies.

Ive found a few ways to sort of “deal” with them, one can be done by many professions. When they go down, apply Immobilize asap. They go mistform, but it does not remove immobilize. So they cannot run inside.

What would you have them do? Are you all seriously saying you prefer it to be a one sided fight where one team is bored of not having any opponents to kill, and the other teams are annoyed at not being able to put up a fight? That is what makes people leave WvW. Giving a handicap to a losing side can only help keep things interesting. If it wasn’t a PvE solution it would have to be a PvP solution which would mean giving some players buffed stats/armour. Now you try and tell me THAT wouldn’t cause arguments in this game.

So what do you want instead, artificial means to keep scores a little closer? That server stomping you is still stomping you. But the place on the map has slightly changed.
But now that servger might not get enough points to move out of your tier. Gratz, youre up for another week of getting stomped.

Ive seen it happen so many times that servers change tier based on just a few points. Just last week we (Deso) pretty much stomped Kodash and Millers. And we moved from tier3 to tier2 on mere single digit points.
Had Miller and Kodash used events like this the difference wouldve been slightly smaller. They wouldve still been stomped, but odds are we would still be in tier 3 this week aswell. Stomping them again, instead of the point system balancing things out.

you have completely ignored what I said and just gone off in a direction above moving up and down tiers…

I am spot on about my comment. You want to give artificial boosts to the losing side. Supposedly to keep it interesting.
How interesting do you want it to be?

Any boost would translate in pointgain, one way or another. And the pointgain skews the score of the stomping server. Which is then reflected in the way tiers are balanced. Slowing down the rate at which a server can move up or down. Servers will be stuck in tiers not fitting them for longer.

Im in a hardcore WvW guild, with many other hardcore WvW players. And we find this change to be very uninteresting. It forces us to keep a large presence on a borderland where no fighting is going on for the offchance a server kicks off this event.

And the result in nightime WvW is clear. Where all servers dont have a full presence the result is that every server sits on their borderland, unable to move enough people to another borderland to start a fight because it makes it to easy to get countered. And every borderland has the color of the server it belongs to and thats about all the action going on.

No artificial boosts, no PvE events. If you cant take a tower, then you dont deserve a tower. Kinda like, if you dont have a nightcapping crew you dont deserve to get nightpoints? Eh Arenanet? https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/wuvwuv/Night-Capping-and-YOU/first
Would be nice if Arenanet would start communicated with the WvW players. Instead of assuming what changes might appease the casual WvW players that show up once in a blue moon to QQ about how kittenty their server is then ragequit.

I think Mobs in presents are way overpowered

Here’s how I do it as Thief:

1) Approach present, interact with it & get blown back
2) Blinding Power & haul kitten to safe distance away fr toys
3) Scorpion ‘Get over HERE!’ Wire to reel in 1 toy at a time
4) melee Chucky clone to death
5) repeat step 3 till no more mob left
6) grab gift & loot the bodies
7) change into fresh pair of undies (if required)

By the time you get to your 3th toy, the gifts have despawned.

The toys are to hard to kill, for far to little reward and can often take so long your gifts will have despawned.
Hence why its better to grab gift and just run away. There is no possitive incentive to kill them, only negative. And then someone else is going to run into 1, 2 or even 3 packs of these little demons stacked together.

The breakout even is rediculous. It goes against Anets earlier statements in relation to nightcapping (its war! Get over it) by handholding one side to get their tower back.

If you lose your spawn tower and cannot get it back, you are outnumbered. Horribly, horribly outnumbered.
Let these people do what they should do. Go to another borderland, so atleast they get some fighting going on on 1 borderland. Instead of this event which just string the few players even more out.

Not to mention the bugs with this event. Champion bugging through walls and gate that were still up. Killing everything inside and just claiming the tower. What the actual kitten?
Get the PvE out of WvW.

You want to protest?

Stop playing your engineer, or better yet stop playing the game at all.

Engineer is already laughably poorly populated. If people who did play one just stopped Engineer would quickly drop to almost non-existant.

Im in a large WvW guild, and Engineers make up a mere 4% of the total guild population. Counting active members only.

The grenade change is not a nerf...

So in short.

If we gear a certain way, use pistol/pistol, trait for a certain way and use specific sigils then the nerf isnt so bad?
Thats great to know, all i need to do is stop playing the way i was and the way i enjoyed. Dump a bunch of gold on new runes, sigils, weapons, not ever get downed and drop my legendary rifle.

Yah, that sounds completely reasonable.

10x is for gamblers.
1x is the safe bet.

Still, with 1x i needed 378 to get 67 clovers. I got the last 10 a few days ago using the 10x recipe, got lucky there.
So even with the 1x recipe you can still have big differences in the amount of effort someone has to put in. And i personally question the correctness of 33% chance to get a clover. All the wiki uses as a source for that number is 159 1x attempts. Not exactly a large sample. My sample is more then twice as big with less then half the dropchance (around 17%)

Charged Lodestone price going up too fast

Anet is constantly jiggling with droprates. Or did chocolate go from trash to valueable because of nothing being done? They upped the chance for certain T6 mats from lootbags with the wintersday patch aswell.

Lodestones are tricky however. Perhaps not increase the lodestones drop, but increase the availability of cores. Cores will go down in price and people can spend their skillpoints making lodestones for themselves or for profit, which will also bring down the price on lodestones.
At the same time, if you want to do it yourself it could be easier if cores are farmable. But it would require a commitment from your own skillpoints to convert these cores to lodestones.

disconnection = auto death

Anyone else has this feeling that everyone that complains about disconnects are actually altf4 users ?

Not at all.

Dropping from the game can also be the result of the game itself crashing. And ive had that happen a fair time to me already since that lovely patch a few weeks ago. It seems a bit better, might be resolved with the 14-12 patch.

Point is, its not always the fault of the internet. It can, and frequently is, the fault of coding from the gamedevs. And a bug like this can suddenly creep in and affect many players.

Introducing: The Flamenommer.

Retaliation destroys flamethrower. The toy ventari in the grove wintersday dungeon, where there are usually 3+ of them with retaliation clumped up? I just swapped to pistol and ran around pretending to be doing something while everyone else killed them. Engineer doesn’t have a real way of stripping boons apart from that one sigil either.

l2throw mine/mine field (yes the toolbelt strips boons too)

Removes 1 random boon. Not reliable.

Sounds like a fun build, clever use of what the game has to offer. Almost certainly foodbuffs will get nerfed, and yes it will be because of this. We cannot have nice things.

Anet balances around the tPvP meta and the tPvP meta only. Get used to it or find another game to play. They don’t care about PvE.

Bull.

When they look at damage output, they put it in an ideal circumstance. Target dummies in light armor that dont move are apparently taking to much damage from grenades. Ergo, the nerf.

They do not actually test this in a combat situation.

Grenade damage reduced 30%

In the mean time I love my 1000+ crit with autoattack Ranger.

Auto-attack rifle engineer has had 1200-1400+ crit at 50-70% crit rate since before launch. And unlike your ranger, due to piercing, a single rifle shot can hit multiple foes. It’s posts like these that make me wonder if the people in this thread ever even tried a non-grenade build.

Have you seen the “rifle is poor damage”posts prior to patch? I was just sitting there scratching my head.
Engi rifle auto attack is like the #2 highest dps ability after grenades in the game..

For engineer?

Kinda vague in your post.

For everyone. Rifles with a 1095 average weapon damage. (the highest damage weapon in the game. Rifles in inherently hit harder then EVERYTHING else.)
Rifles with a .85s auto attack speed. Ranger long bow is 1.25s, .5s short bow.
War longbow is 1.25, war rifle is .85s too. Pistols/shortbow thief .85s

Melee gets more complicated with attack chains, but end result is the same. Rifle 1 usually wins.

Its a .65 skill coeff, pierces, can be traited for +10% damage, 5% damage while bleeding, 50% vul on crit. (or 5 stacks of vul on immobalize now.

Play a warrior, try their rifle. Then play an engineer. Now, yes, we all have been hit really hard by a kill shot. 3 stack adrenaline hit. But everything else is not as strong as ours. They have a more ranged package. but again, our rifle 1 does more damage then their set. Nearly as much as volley, just by default.

Yes, and at 1000range baseline, requiring a major trait to just get to 1200.

I think its unfair to not mention Warrior traits. Which gives it long stacks of bleeds, more bleeds on crits, piercing, +10% DMG against bleeding (and bleed is always up).

The strength of a weapon isnt just the spam ability nr1. Warriors get a shot to stack vulnerability, a knockback that doesnt self-CC, a volley and ofcourse their kill shot which litterally one-shots ppl.
Adrenaline is also built from attacks, and adrenaline = damage. Again, something you did not factor into your comparison.

Does weapon's damage effect Kits?

in Engineer

Posted by: Terrahero.9358

Terrahero.9358

ANet has made so far no statement that weapon damage will ever affect kits but they have stated that weapon stats will affect kits at some point in time.

i dont get the point of that i mean they will give us weapon stats but nerf all the kits dmg cause it will somehow be to OP

Why would they? Weaponstats are already applied to kits in sPvP, just not in PvE and WvW.

Anet Engineer Comparison/Questions

Actually it makes perfect sense when you consider the target to be a training dummy.

You just hit the nail on the head.

Arenanet doesnt test any of this in actual combat situations, merely on stationairy target dummies.
Not to long ago we saw a similar little roar from the Mesmer forum about, i believe their iBerserker. Something about it being to hard to hit people due to the delay before it would attacl.
And the response from Anet was “its damage was fine on the target dummies”. Caused a bit of a stirr.

If they just test grenades against targetdummies, well… it explains a lot.

If balance be truly your goal....

in Engineer

Terrahero.9358

They do not actually play their professions adequatly to properly gauge balance. Nor do they apparently know what their design goals truely are or they wouldnt write what they wrote.

Anyone can put Engineer and Elementalist right next to eachother and read them out loud and notice some glaring contradicitions. Or just look at the Thief, ha! “Should be countered with conditions and aoe” hilarious.

Engineer gets hybrid tax for being versatile (we can debate wether it truely is or not), yet the more versatile class (Elementalist) does not get a hybrid tax. You cannot justify that.
And either they go silent over this, realizing their stupidity of putting stuff in words like this or they will man up and admit they made a mistake with this. I’m thinking the former is the safest bet.

And if these little write ups truely represent their design intentions for the various professions, they would have to scratch their heads and wonder how disconnected they have truely become from their own game. And note that these different design philosophies are strongly contradicting eachother, and reality.
The most troubling part is, its been just 4 months and they’ve already lost track.

How was this tested?

in Engineer

Terrahero.9358

Seems to me that Anet is stating that the #1 Grenade skill would be OP if they were able to apply a 5% damage increase from sigils so they have been “toned down.”
By stating that they are also saying that when they apply stats to kits Grenades (possiby others) will again have to be toned down.

If Sigils have such an effect on just the #1 skill imagine what those pistols with 180 power(or w/e) are gonna do.

So by giving us Sigils but nerfing us because of it, they are as much as saying that they when they give us Stats they will again nerf us because of it.

So if the least played profession already has a future nerf planned, that will more than likely be much broader than this one, why not let the first nerf go and wait untill we actually have our kits functioning in the way that they are supposed to (if you even know what that is!?).

Seems like the worst thing that could come of it is that the Engineers who just stand around and ONLY spam #1 might get some higher damage numbers.

Weapon STATS are already being applied to kits in sPvP and always have. Weapon DAMAGE would be new, if they added it.
But if adding weapon damage to kits (so more then just the default white quality weapondamage) would just result in nerfing the kits down, why bother letting them scale with weapondamage in the first place?

Break out event

If you cannot take and hold the tower closest to your spawn on that borderland then by george does your server suck horribly, or more likely you are completely and utterly outnumbered.

so instead of pulling people from an already poorly populated server and stringing them across all maps with break-out events. Let happen what happens, the server got pushed off due to lack of manpower. And these go to other borderlands and actually get a sizeable enough force to get some real fights going on.

Instead now you get small groups constantly triggering pve events every 5min. Yah, thats a lot of fun. Where did this carebear attitude suddenly come from anyway? What happend to Arenanet’s “l2nightcap or go down, this is war!”. Now suddenly theyre throwing in crutches to spoonfeed towers.
