Again: The ladder has nothing to do with ‘who is a better player’.
With the given data (number of wins, losses and ladder points) we have no option to see who the better player is. There are too many possibilities how you ended up with the specific number of ladder points.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
ArenaNet loves those numbers.
I think the only chance we have, is to influence their statistics.
1.) Always vote. Never pass on the chance to vote for a map you like.
2.) Never ever vote for a map you don’t like.
3.) Then there are those numbers, how many players leave each map. Our first rank 80 #1 engi posted a video a while ago, how to influence this statistic.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
PvP is region based. Means everyone from EU-Region is able to face each other.
For WvW? Not sure, maybe leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/eu/wvw help you.
Personally, I’d recommend Desolation.

I always saving up some boxed prior stacking MF.
I have a char with birthday buff, MF buff, buff food and oil, birthday gun and mf amulet and guild buffs (did I forget something?).
Then I complete the silverwaste meta for additional MF. Leaving me with over 600% MF for the reward track boxes.

Here is one really bad matchup:
We (premade of 4) won 500 to 170 on Foefire; EU; Ranked; this account; Match ended at around 23:50 CET;
Why do I think this was a bad matchup:
The matches prior this we had good matchups that ended around 350-450 to 500 against good players (team asdf and so on).
This match was really strange, our fifth random players was a bearbow, I asked in the team chat, if he was new to the game, but he didn’t answer.
The opponents played spirt weapon guard and minion master necro; they where all queuing solo.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I hope they’ll not return.
Having some exclusives for the old pvp community are a good thing.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Not sure how somebody can feel embarrassed by that. Is this really the word you where looking for?
how can words such as esl and competitive play and what not be tossed around so easily?
Seriously, have you played any other game at all?
Yes, gw2 has some serious problems, but are other games better at managing those?
Personally, I really don’t get why people are playing and watching games like lol, dota or even hearthstone, when gw2 is so much better… yeah, I know, people are just so different
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Then you haven’t played sPvP recently.
I have, many times, ranked and unranked, and I haven’t had a game starting with only 4 guys yet (but some guys afking on spawn).
Not only do matches start 4vs5 but they will also start if there are folks that haven’t clicked the “I am ready” button. I don’t even know what good is that button anyway.
The ‘I am ready’ button is not the ready check at the start. It is just optional to reduce the 1 minute starting period.
The ready check is prior selecting the map.
And btw. the Dishonor system is currently not active so “repercussion” is a moot point.
From the last information I have got, the Dishonor system is already enabled.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
It actually is fixed. We got the ready check, meaning, that if there are not 10 people ready to play, the match will not happen.
Anyway, if after that, a player gets a DC or decides not to play, you can only apply repercussions to him (he can’t join a match for a certain amount of time, and he will loose points on the ladder, which is also already happening),
and you can see, that the other players are not loosing points on the ladder and mmr due to this, and this is also currently already happening….
What else do you want? Hire some hitman to punish those guys in rl too?
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
you probably did a missclick and no you can’t only sell for the highest offer you can sell for the lowest value of that item which is like 2s 64c ?
I think in that case, it would still sell the item for the highest bid price, and therefore for around 380 gold, not 7 silver.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I’m looking at the data as presented to try and interpret what’s going on – rather than final points.
We have no clue where the people are regarding MMR, nor do we know how there matches have been.
Did they gain points due to playing 400-500? (Which end up counting as a loose, but can still give you points, if you they are higher rated.)
Did they gain points due to winning against higher rated team?
F.e. I have more points than victories, what does that tell you?
With the data we have, we simply don’t know.
The only thing we know for sure: The guys on the top have to most games played, that’s why they are up there.
Once the regular tournament winners are back on the top, you know that the ladder is working again, but until then, just ignore the ladder.

Game became a 5v2 after 1m, won 500-60 or so.
So, three people left because of a bad first engage?
Why should there be a matchmaking problem, if three guys just forfeit?
If they would have continued to play, you could also have taken the victory home, who knows.

Stronghold – TLDR – It seems to me that there will be way too much pve oriented elements involved for it to be a “competitive” gametype, and personally that’s fine with me as a casual game mode.
Have you played some mobas at all? You know, the biggest esports titles?
Let’s just wait, until we have more infos about how Stronghold is played and then let’s play it, and test it out.
I don’t think ArenaNet will force any gamemode to be the competetive one, but will leave it to the community.
I will play the game mode which is more fun. I don’t care how many npcs are involved.
You can play everything competitively. You can rush dungeons and stop the time. You gather people at the start of a jp and see who will be the first at the top. You can gather two zergs of 20+ people and zerg each other down.
In the end, the community decided what is more fun, and where they want to participate, and the viewers will decided, which match was more interesting to watch.
You want 2v2 or 3v3 deathmatches? Set up your private server and organize more tournaments. Maybe it will take off, who knows.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Thief is perfectly fine. They can carry SoloQ matches, and (like every other profession) are still played in a top team.
My recommendation:
Jump into every profession to see what they are capable of doing. Learn their skills and abilities and recognize where you got countered to maybe be able to apply that knowledge against them.
Choose ONE profession as your main, and try to get better. Practice – a lot!

I think that there needs to be a shortbow wielding specialization, because of all the classes, mesmer DESERVES the dreamer the most. Also, with 3 clones, that would produce 4 unicorn spamming mesmers, and I can’t think of anything more beautiful.
Agree, I totally want that!
Unfortunately I think we’ll only get a shield
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
From my understanding, for the clone damage it does not matter if you have the trait IP or not.
Depending on the number of clones shattered, the individual clone damage gets reduced. But since shattering 3 clones still does more damage than shattering two, you still want to shatter more.
F.e. Shattering 3 clones: Each clone does 1500 damage; so 4500 in total.
Shattering 2 clones. Each clone does 1700 damage; so 3400 in total.
The illusionary persona damage is calculated separately. It is equivalently, if you would have just shatter 1 clones (f.e. dealing 1850 damage).
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I think folks here are just missing the obvious, we’ve all had good and bad runs in solo que. For my part, after about the 4th or 5th loss I take a little break, about the duration of a que time. It almost always changes the tempo of win/loss for me.
You are totally right. I had bad times, where I lost more matches than I won, but NEVER 20! in a row.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Due to the wisdom of Anet, you can’t get clone on dodge until level 60. Shatter will be miserable prior to that.
We are just talking about the first traits, and how big their impact is.
I prefer +20% Mind Wrack Damage over +15% Illusion Damage.
During the level phase (and later against most mobs) you are just pressing F1 to finish the already low mobs off. F.e. GS4+GS2… auto attack… knock back… G2…F1 to kill the mob.
You don’t need Clones on Dodge to do that.
Personally, I think most people are having problems with the leveling speed due to not using their F1 skill to finish off the mobs.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
You are kind of playing at semantics.
I tried to point out how the current system works. English is not my first language, so I have be careful what I write, to be sure, that people understand me.
A 500-0 win probably should be worth +3 a lot of the time unless the MMRs are way off.
If a team wins 500 to 0, the mmr IS way off. Either some players have a mmr, which does not suit them (some players from the losing team might had a too high rating , or some players from the winning team were too low ranked, or both) OR the match making made a mistake paring those two teams.
Now let’s talk about, how the system should be:
It should NOT give more point, if you win with a bigger margin.
We need a combination of MMR and point farming, so that after a farming period only the top-mmr players are on the top and not the farmers.
WoW has it with their Arenas; and Lol, Dota, SC2, Titanfall with their league system, and we will have it in the future too (Devs already told us, we are heading there).
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Don’t think there will be any big balance changes prior HoT, but I think there will be some minor after the next WTS Tournament.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
IF there really was a mistake with the match making Justin will need more information to look into it.
1.) NA, EU?
2.) With the account you are posting this?
3.) Time? About when did the match took place?
4.) Unranked or ranked?
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
but I can see guards abusing these runes lol.
Just a quick question about the rune:
If you open the fight with aegis (specially guards with Virtue of Courage do so), and you block the very first attack: does this block already trigger the 6th set bonus?
It does, doesn’kitten
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I really hope I’ll get into a beta version of HoT.
Be there at the start again, and get involved in all the upcoming features sounds really fun and interesting. We might even get the chance to have a bigger impact on the balancing side of things.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
when does this ladder reset for a new one?
Once they are ready.
but nothing was said about the mmr or (classes mmr) changes,
profession MMR mean you are going to have 16 different mmrs.
f.e. 1 MMR for unranked thief; 1 MMR for ranked ranger.
The idea behind it is, that you might not be able to play with every profession on the same level.
They are currently already gathering profession-mmr-data. The problem seems to be, how to adjust the individual MMRs when you change your profession during a match.
new accounts or queue with low mmr friends = easy wins, gg anet for the great idea.
Since the entry level (buying a new game) is high enough, this mentioned problem is in gw2 not so much of a big deal compared to f2p games.
Not to mention, that your mmr gets constantly adjusted, also a lot faster if you haven’t played games yet. This means, that even tho the first few games might be fairly easy for you IF you are a good player, but then the mmr has adjusted itself, and you would need a new account, or new low-mmr-friends again.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Who kittening cares? Meta is an unbalanced snoozefest and conquest only just makes it worse.
I care.
And you seem to really care enough to spend your valuable time here on the forum.
Do I think gw2 is not balanced enough? I do, still, it is one of the best balanced games around. It is the best balanced mmorpg, and on line with all the mobas (except, that due to the pick and ban mechanic, the individual profession balance in gw2 becomes a bigger factor. Because you can’t just counter-pick or ban an op hero).
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Anet wanted to add an aoe damaging condi sigil compared to 1v1 Sig of earth/doom.
It still does less damage than both, especially Doom sigils.
Exactly.
The only profession, I can see, which can benefit from it, is the survival-condition-ranger who already has high bleeding stacks and a long poison duration. Even tho playing against once of those is not really fun, they are not really played as often as f.e. cele ele/engi.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Swish.2463Pro Tip, Ether Feast is the Default Healing skill for Mesmers, its already unlocked.
It’s not. My level 5 Sylvari has only unlocked Mirror. Maybe race dependent?
Locate a Phantasm Build on the Forum and focus on only unlocking the traits for that (provided your stuck in the NPE trait hunt garbage) Ignore the others until you reach 80.
I’d not recommend that.
I leveled with a shatter spec. (+Mind Wrack Damage; Clones on Dodge).
Th mobs should die faster with a well placed shatter.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
…which is why it’s not a carry class
Carry class means for me, you have a HUGE influence on the outcome of the game. You push your own team over the edge.
And with thief, if you’re good you can keep the enemy team permanently outnumbered at the teamfight OR gank their damage dealers (mesmer, ranger, necro) OR being better than the enemy thief and still outnumber the enemy OR, worst case scenario, let the enemy sacrifice a cap for winning a teamfight.
I agree, that a thief can have the biggest influence on the outcome of a match, and might therefore be the profession with the best option to carry the match.
Still, mesmer has also the option to carry game. Celestrial are just good for zerging around on a node, but as a berserker profession, you have the power to turn the fights into your favor.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Well I am only lvl 30 and I mostly have a lot of condtional damage stats on my gear is that not good for mesmer? Im trying to get to lvl 80 but I want to be good at pve and bosses and worldvsworld I head in WvW you can get alot of experience but when I go there I just die rofl.
I tried the greatsword but people were telling me it was bad so I stopped using it right now I use a staff. And I sometimes switch to a sword+gun when the enemies get close to me. I die all the time rofl Dx
I’d recommend you to stay with GS+Staff and use power gear (exact list above).
For some high level speed runs the 1h-Sword is stronger, but until then stay with gs.
For WvW as a low level: Take as much toughness as possible.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I like the staff because I can add so many conditions on the enemies like bleed etc. But some of the guides I see are I need power and precision. And all I have on all my gear is condition damage since I thought I needed that for mesmer.
So what weapons am I suppose to use? I like giving boons to people and doing a bunch of conditonal damage. But I feel like I die all the time. T_T! Can anyone help me figure this out?
1.) Try to stay back, your phase retreat get further back, also try to use blink and decoy to get the opponents away from you.
2.) You can play condition, I’ll not be the strongest build, but it is doable. Therefore I’d recommend you to try out a “condition-shatter” build, with the
core traits for that:
‘Deceptive Evasion’ (Duelling 10); ‘Maim the Disillusioned’ (Illusions 13).
Weapons: Staff and Scepter with torch or pistol.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
new at Level 80:
Basically: Play what is most fun for you.
Still, I’d only recommend a power based build as offensive as you can handle it.
Exotic gear is not that hard to acquire, don’t be afraid to play around with it. Good starting gear would f.e. be knight (toughness, power, precision), once you can handle yourself with it, go for berserker.
Further gear recommendation:
Dungeons, Fractals, Open-World-PvE, Living Story, Small Scale Roaming, TPvP -> Berserker (Power, Precision, Crit Damage)
World Bosses and WvW Zerg -> Soldier.
You can change your traits everytime outside of combat, I recommend you, to adjust it whenever it is necessary.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Some few tipps, that might help for leveling:
1.) Unlock the heal “Ether Feast”.
2.) I would level with Greatsword + Staff again.
Greatsword provides big ranged damage and burst, and with Staff you gain the survival-ability you need.
3.) Use F1 ‘Mind Wrack’ either if the opponent has low health, or your clones are about to die due to area of effect damage.
4.) If you are playing as a sylvari pick up the elite skill ‘Take Roots’ asap. For Charrs ‘Warband Support’; Asura ‘Summon 7-Series Golem’; or use the Mistfire Wolve if you have the deluxe edition.
5.) Leveling Gear: maximize the stat power.
Power > Precision > Toughness > Vitality. Don’t take Condition damage or healing power.
6.) Use bufffood when you get it.
7.) Remember, that you are getting level appropriate loot. It is useful and might be necessary to visit multiple 1-10 zones. You get level down there, but you are still a bit stronger, and you still get appropriate rewards for your actual level (loot, exp and so on).
8.) If your weapon is really outdated, don’t but a new one at the next npc; you might find better and cheaper weapons at the trading post.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
The problem I have with it:
1.) Cast time is too long. max 3/4, better instant.
2.) Health in PvP only 7.278
3.) He buffs everything around him. So AOE damage really kills him fast.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Are you already level 80, or do you need some guidance for leveling a mesmer?
In which content do you want to participate? Living world, open world pve like events, World Boss enoukitteners, fractals, dungeons, WvW Zerg, WvW small scale roaming or TPvP?^^

Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
IF the system works (only Justin can take a look at your past matches), then it means, that Aylpse was rated to high for his knowledge and skill.
Ofc he could have just have been really really unlucky, and most of his members were ranked too high.

It’s going to be interesting.
Even tho in europe oRNG have a bit of a lead over their opponents, they have lost matches too.
In america it’s going to get exciting who will take the seconds place (the first will for sure go to abjured).
I hope they have a proper way to determine the second place (f.e.double knock-out?).
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I think it’s most likely a combination of the class he is playing (a non-carry class), what time of day, and a low population doing PvP, meaning there is no real matchmaking going on, especially at off hours.
But I will agree that to carry you have to have a tanky class played really well to make an impact. It’s harder than it looks.
I disagree. Mesmers are most of the time fine to carry a match.
‘most of the time’: You need some bulky professions in your team, to hold the point, while you do your job (dps, kill, help with stomp, help with rez, interrupt rez, etc).
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend

There’s a lot of data missing here, for example winning against team A (500 points) would result in +2. The code at this link is fairly self-explanitory: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm#Ladder
I know that.
For some people the code does not seem to that self-explanatory, therefore I just picked some examples to better explain how the system works. Although posted the link above too
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Most mesmers I meet are very pleasant, respectful, calm, quiet and thoughtful with a playful streak (kitten talking, so on). The thing about many streamers is they have a persona while “live.” Once they’re not streaming, they’re as I mentioned. Chill, helpful and friendly.
Agree. That’s more in the line of what I was experiences to far.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Obviously I was a solo que, my team was solo que and we ANNIHILATED that team, which was solo que. I don’t see how I was in favor to win, we all solo que. I deserve +3 for FLAWLESS victory, heck I deserve +5, FLAWLESS victories should give +5, should be incentive to ANNIHILATE the other team.
I can try to simplify for you how the current system works, but since english is not my first language, I might face some problems.
1.) Every players has his own match making rating. It is a four digit number, supposed to show accurately how good you are.
F.e. Player A will have a MMR of 3.000.
Player B will have a MMR of about 1.000.
Every match you play will influence your rating. You win → it growth.
You win against player A → You get a big rating boost
You win against player B → Only a small rating boost.
2.) In a perfect world, with enough players participating, you would only play with and against players which have the same rating as you do.
3.) Since we are not in a perfect world, the average rating between the teams may be different. Out of this difference, the system calculates how big your win chance is.
F.e. Against a team full of player-A: 20%; Against a team full of player-B: 80%.
4.) ONLY the score you reach at the end of the match AND the above mentioned win-chance matters.
You reach 200 points against team A (you had a win chance of 20%) => -1 Point for you.
You reach 300 points against team A (you had a win chance of 20%) => 0 points.
You reach 400 points against team A (you had a win chance of 20%) => +1 Point.
You reach 200 points against Team B (you had a win chance of 80%) =>-2 Points for you.
You reach 300 points against Team B (you had a win chance of 80%) => -1 Point.
You reach 400 points against Team B (You had a win chance of 80%) => 0 Points.
