I think we need clear infomation about everything about Ranked PvP on website AND ingame.
We actually have enough information, but nobody bother reading it.
If you want some, how about starting with: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm

Also, a 70% win/loss ratio is quite good if you’re not in a team, so you’d need less matches to reach a good ranking. Congrats!
Actually it does not.
The thread creator appears to have started playing in ranked recently, and it seems, therefore he had a too low mmr for his skill/knowledge. Therefore he will see more wins than losses, until he reached his suitable mmr. After that, if the system works properly, he should have a ca 50% win/loss ratio.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
+3 points?
Yes?
No.
It does not matter for you, how many points the opponent team had.
It only matters how high your rating difference was. Since you obliterated them, I expect you to only gain 1 point.

1.) Ladder is currently only a grind-feast.
F.e. player A grinding 50 games with a 50% win rate at a 500 MMR will end up with a higher ladder position than player B with 10 games, 100% win rate and 2500 MMR.
2.) Currently it is off-season. You are not getting any rewards out of the grind-ladder, therefore it is not encouraging for most players to grind their way up, therefore most players are not really farming / grinding.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Definitely with PvP in mind.
It is designed as a combination of currently popular esports titel (f.e. dota, lol, smite all 5v5) with the old gvg (which was 8vs8).
It definitely will follow the SPvP rules (gear, amulet, traits, balancing aspect).
Currently popular esports titel (dota/lol/smite) also include npcs. I’d recommend you to try out smite, maybe that gives you are a little impression how it could look like.

You are not allowed to use any kind of macros, so I hope there are not a lot around
In the past I encountered a single guy definitely using a macro. Are there more? Who knows.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Well, not true for me.
I think you are just using some subjective personal experiences to generate some bigger principles, with the hope that they are always true for the whole world…. it is not so easy bro
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
So, for those of you who plan on playing revenant on day 1, and have the resources, will you stick to level 1 and do the patient leveling up, or will you go straight to level 80?
I am going to start with a level 20 scroll.
If the revenant has a own personal story, unfamiliar to me, I’m then going to start playing through it.
Play through the story available => use tomes to unlock it further => play through it and so on.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Okay so Rylock is transformed, comes back as a Revenant. It’s part of the Living Story.
We now get to start a character as a Revenant. Any race. From the beginning.
Which means we get to face Zhaitan as a Revenant, when in theory that precedes the introduction of Revanant to the world. It really is like rewriting history.
Stuff like this always annoys me.
Who knows what will happen. Maybe the new Revenant Chars will have a own new personal story regardless of race?
Maybe a personal story explaining how they are learning their profession?

If it’s not within the next 3 months, I think they’re going to have some problems.
They’ve built a community and game that thrives on frequent updates after all.
I’d expect the majority of the dev team is at this point focused on making the expansion, so I doubt they’ll be releasing anything new in-between.
Super Adventure Box is the only content I can think of that they can throw at us to tide us over. Maybe a pvp and WvW season to help distract us as well.
It’s hard to say how long it’ll take though. There’s signs that indicate it could be relatively soon. But it could just as easily be the case that they have several months of work left, and we simply don’t know it.
Totally agree.
February SAB and detailed HoT information.
March Beta
April Release? One can hope so, but life will go on either way.

The following quote is from Devon (Dev):
But why no game mode that’s small scale of 5 players and under? The majority of the pvp community have been just begging for another game mode for years that’s competitive, small scale, and not conquest, and not revolving around holding a point or standing within a small vicinity.
CountlessWe’ll have more to say about Stronghold in the coming weeks, but I will say you’ve misinterpreted what Colin said about the scope of the mode.

My biggest question regarding specialization: How many specializations per profession?
Otherwise I can’t really grasp anything.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Currently you have still access to the full server list, you don’t have to use the “Practice”-Button.
Personally I use f.e. a filter to show me only 1vs1 server in the list, and then I just pick an empty one.
The current HoT-Preview only considers some of the most basic and most important features. It will include features we have no clue about, maybe even a duelling system.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
After all, our “shield” phantasm already exists. Not to say the new phantasm has to be or would be defensive in nature, just that we have one that could easily have been a shield phantasm had the shield been available at launch.
Basically, we can just guess in the wild anyway. We have no clue at all what will happen.
Since prior having access to the shield, we must specialize anyway, they can pretty much change the must-have-phantasm-rule anyway.

I want a 2h-Hammer Phantasms, that has increased damage against AI like Turrets or minions. In the end it should one-hit f.e. rocket turrets.
AI to counter AI, I like it.
Well, our AI would die after countering the other AI anyways^^

Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Currently no problems. The maintenance seems to have fixed the problem.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
1.) R80 does not mean anything. Even lessen than our current ladder. It is just time invested. Maybe you just spent your time on one of the farm servers?
2.) The finisher is fine, I like it. I don’t like finishers cluttering the screen.
3.) If new finishers are designed, they should only be awarded in a kind of league system or available at the item shop.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I would test out 2-0-6-0-6 .
Or if I’d not need DE AND Harmonious Mantras would be included into Restorative Mantras, then 4-0-6-4-0 => this would be probably my current dream build
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Same problem here.
IP Address from the silverwaste-server I was on:
206.127.159.74 – DC’d in less than 1 minute.
206.127.159.120 – DC after about 2 minutes
206.127.159.115 – DC under 1 minute
I’m now going to stop trying since it does not seem to be server specific.

It took people 6 weeks to realize rangers weren’t op…sorry 1-2 weeks is ridiculous.
You put far too much faith in the player base.
I think this is the best example of the root problem we have.
Is something really op or do the players just need time to adjust?
Power Ranger is still too strong,, but since most power rangers you encounter are just not experienced enough / not good enough, you could too easily come to the wrong solution, that power ranger is fine as he is.
In the end: I’d prefer small adjustment asap. Better overnerfing something too early than leaving it unintended for month.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
No. Don’t expect it to be enabled anytime soon.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Interesting question.
The team with the higher summed up personal score get it accounted for a win, but how does the ladder-point distribution work?
If we would consider the table from http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/PvP_Matchmaking_Algorithm
<Ladder default=“0” min=“0” max=“1000000” leaderboard-points=“1”>
<Matrix odds=“0.0”>
<Score min=“0” points=“-1”/>
<Score min=“200” points=“0”/>
<Score min=“300” points=“1”/>
<Score min=“400” points=“2”/>
<Score min=“500” points=“3”/>
</Matrix><Matrix odds=“0.2”>
<Score min=“0” points=“-1”/>
<Score min=“300” points=“0”/>
<Score min=“400” points=“1”/>
<Score min=“500” points=“2”/>
</Matrix><Matrix odds=“0.4”>
<Score min=“0” points=“-1”/>
<Score min=“400” points=“0”/>
<Score min=“500” points=“1”/>
</Matrix><Matrix odds=“0.6”>
<Score min=“0” points=“-2”/>
<Score min=“300” points=“-1”/>
<Score min=“400” points=“0”/>
<Score min=“500” points=“1”/>
</Matrix><Matrix odds=“0.8”>
<Score min=“0” points=“-3”/>
<Score min=“200” points=“-2”/>
<Score min=“300” points=“-1”/>
<Score min=“400” points=“0”/>
<Score min=“500” points=“1”/>
</Matrix>
</Ladder>
the teams get points regardless who won, but it depends on the your point at the end of the match. Therefore both teams would get at least 1 point.

Depending on what kind of look you’re going for, try the Harlequin mask? That’s the “happy” Mesmer starting mask. Though, the demon masque looks pretty nice on Sylvari as well (it is one of the necro starting masks).
I have looked through the wardrobe, and haven’t found a perfect choice. Just have to hope some there will be some new models in the future.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Well, he has an interesting point.
As a mesmer, against which professions do you have the most problems with? Would you include other beserker builds beside thiefs?
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
1. Rosters (the group you queue with) expand their rating match range over time. When a roster reaches 4 minutes in queue, they’re being considered at ±500 of the roster rating. So you have a much larger range of possible ratings. In addition, you have to consider a pre-made group which can have extremes.
I know, that this is currently the case, but I strongly disagree with this procedure.
In my personal opinion players with a big rating difference should NEVER fight with / against each other.
In another post they talked about a 5% win chance for one side. This will just lead to a match nobody is happy with.
I agree, that the rating difference between the two teams can increase over time, but a match where one side ends up with 80%+ win chance should never happen, no matter how long they have already been in queue.
2. If you have a pre-made with a single player of significantly lower rating, you ask them to just stay back from the fight or put them in a role where they’re less likely to be a rally bot. Since it’s a pre-made, they’ll likely listen.
From my personal experience this will not happen, they will either end up being a burden in the team fight, or you have to fight outnumbered. => Back to 1.) the rating difference between the individual players must not be too high.

Some questions from a non-math-freak:
1.) The examples at the start of this topic are very extreme. Since those should never happen in the live environment, are the different calculation methods (geometric mean; arithmetic mean; mamm) really that important?
Isn’t it more important to focus on the rating difference between the individual team member? F.e. The players in a single match are only ranked between 1500 and 1600?
How many games in percentage are currently happening, where you predict that one team will win with a 60% chance, how many with a 80% chance?
You already told us, that those predictions seems to be fairly accurate, and therefore the mmr system itself seems to work, but I’m still curious how many of those games are happening, since those are the imbalanced games.
2.) How big is the advantage of a premade team? I cannot answer this question.
If a 500 player joins a team, he will still be a rally bot, and he will mostly not profit from using voice communication. On the other hand, a 2000 solo player will most likely have expert rotation knowledge and map awareness, that he will know when the opponents respawn, and on which point he can most likely help out the most.
Therefore it is ideally to only let a premades of the same size fight against premades of the same size.
3.) How would the extreme starting example really play out? The rating difference is abysmal. For me it seems that team 1 will fight 3vs5 with the additional disadvantage of having two rally bots.

This is the reason why so many unexperienced players play in Ranked Arena runining the gameplay of experienced players. Cause they dont want to play on kitten maps like Skyham, Spirit Watch or Courtyard, and cause they also want to see the Standard Models.
Even if a lot of unexperienced players are playing in Ranked Arena, you should never face them as an experienced player since the match making system is in place.
From my own experience, most players just overestimate their skill level, and just blame the other players.

Is the bleed easy to proc against top tier players since it has to hit from the back or sides
The thing is, the bleeding is not only proccing from what I would call the back or sides. Basically the window where it does not apply bleed is very very small.
Just take a friend in an empty server, and start auto attacking him from the front while slowly circling him.

When you join a Ranked match, what class are you generally happiest to see on your team?
Not profession, build.
I am happy to see a cele D/D ele or cele staff ele; but not a fresh-air-ele or some other kind of non-meta build.
The same goes for cele engi vs static discharge engi.
I am also happy to get a cele or soldier warrior, shoutbow or hambow does not matter.
Survival Rangers are also appreciated.
They are effective and not too hard to play.
Basically I am not happy about berserker-builds or non-meta-builds.
Most players can’t pull them off, and will just be most of the time in downstate, on respawn, or just completely useless.
But nevertheless, there are always some players, who have proven me wrong with still being effective with unusual builds.

I know it’s just a nonsense rumour, but thinking about it – what would the skills look like if they were converted for land use?
I suggested multiple times to change the underwater weapons to normal weapons; Every weapon should be use-able underwater and on land regardless. But I have not heard anything official about this. Sorry if I started a rumor at one point.
Why do I think that would be great?
- You already have them included in the loot and crafting tables, from level 1 to legendary. They have already functioning ingame models.
- Underwater Combat with an extra weapon set is not very intuitive. If all weapons would be useable underwater, it might improve the underwater combat experience.
BTT:
Anyway, do you feel any skills need radical changes to function well on land, or even just to carve out a different niche for each weapon so as not to overlap too much with current land weapons?
- Vortex:
It would need a reduced casting time, from 1 1/4 to 3/4;
but at the same time, a good casting-animation, that the opponent could dodge it.
If the Vortex is in place, it needs a new graphical effect. You should still be able to see what’s going on. Maybe making the effect more transparent?
- Trident:
Increase base damage of ‘Ineptitude’ to bring it on the same level as ‘Mind Stab’ and reduce the casting time.
Adjust the priority list of the bounces from ’Siren’s Call’ to primary target opponents.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Some nice changes, but not enough.
Elementalist needs a reduction in survivability.
Suggestion: Reduce the overall Regeneration and Protection Uptime. I’d touch ‘Elemental Attunement’; reducing Regeneration and Protection to 3 seconds base. Regeneration from ‘Soothing Disruption’ to 4 seconds base and Protection from ‘Armor of Earth’ to 4 Seconds base.
Engineer Damage + Group Support.
How about: Reduce Base Damage from ‘Grenade Barrage’, ‘Shrapnel Grenade’ and ‘Freeze Grenade’ by 10%. Reduce Poison Cloud Duration from Poison Grenade from 5 to 2 seconds.
Reduce Radius from ‘Healing Turret’ from 480 to 180.
Mesmer Phantasmal Mage and Phantasmal Warlock: Increase velocity of their skill’s projectile for a reliable hit. A reliable Phantasmal Warlock might be too strong, how about as compensation decrease the Extra damage per condition from 10% to 5%?
Necromancer Needs some life pool after spawning in pvp.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I suggest using practice-mode as rarely as possible.
It has a lot of flaws with the uneven matches due to the missing MMR:
There are still a lot of toxic players around in unranked/ranked, even tho I feel it’s better there.

What we see in the Go4s are not good places to judge viability from.
It means, that you can still be successful even if you don’t play the ‘meta’ team composition.
Just because teams like Cheese Mode / TCG / Abjured knows how to counter a specific build, does that mean, it is not viable at all skill levels?
Go play Power Necro like Leeto and have fun with it; and if you are good with it, you will not be a burden for your team but an enrichment.

(edited by Teutos.8620)
In contrast and as it currently stands, Berzerker builds are still almost exclusively used by two specific classes: Mesmer and Thief.
In the last go4cups alone we have seen FreshAir-Bersi-Ele and Medidation-Bersi-Guard on EU, Power-LB-Bersi-Ranger on NA in the Top 4 teams; the team with the Medidation-Bersi-Guard even won the whole cup.
Let’s wait and see what todays Dezember Finals will bring us.
This “instant gib” that’s near indefensible against a skilled Thief, I believe, is the reason primary why players gravitated away from using squishy builds and towards Bunker or Celestial alternatives.
Is it really the thief, that causes us f.e. to see only a few fresh air eles, or is it more the dominance of might stacking celestrial D/D eles?
Not to mention that DPS guards are very well off against thiefs.
or Phase Retreat in order to survive. […] or a comfortable 6 seconds on a Mesmer without using an Elite is a long time.
So a ähm, staff+ X/torch build? Haven’t seen one of those in quite a while

keep getting matched with the super players.
We already have a (almost working) match making system in place.
The goal of the system is to match two even (equally strong) teams together.
That means, if you are playing against ‘super players’, you should also play with them.
In the end, the system takes some time to recognize how good players are. Not to mention, that their skill level changes over time, people get better, or just have a bad day.
You have three options here:
- Just continue playing. It really can’t get any worse ^^
- Post some match details (date, map, score, ranked/unranked). I’m sure a ArenaNetDev will look it up, and show you, that there were no system errors.
- Give us more information about your playstyle. Maybe we can give you some tipps to also be one of those ‘super players’
