How would you guys suggest we go about teaching this to players?
Let them not spawn directly at the start of the match, but later into it. Maybe how about after two minutes into the game?
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Before the last update we had the problems of players leaving to easy or switching sides or waiting in spectator untill they can join the winning side.
This leads to maches always being 5Vs4 most of the time. When someone leaves the team with 4 the game starts to take players from team with 5 and as soon as both teams has 4Vs4 someone in spectator Joins the winning team. And there are much more stuff to be done to join the winning team.
Disable teamswaping for any modes atleast.
The current (new) problem is the winning profession daily.
You only get it, if you are with the winning team at the end of the match. Before the patch, you’d get the winning reward even if you got switched to the other side.
No, if you are just joining hot-join to complete the daily as quick as possible, there is no point in playing at the loosing side.
I hope this get’s fixed asap.

With 4.000 armor you get hit for 250.

We already have this kind of systems in place.
→ We have a MMR System trying to put premades against premades (emphasis on ‘trying to’). If you have any source code which might help improve the process, feel free to pn an arena net dev.
→ We have a desertion system. The part where you loose rank points is already enabled, the timeout is currently collecting data, and will most likely be online next tuesday.
→ The simle points-ladder will get changed to a league ladder in the future. Hopefully soon.
Any other great new, and never before though of, inventions do Blizzard have?
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
No idea.
The only thing about armor I know (from http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Damage):
Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)
So basically: Every time you double your armor, you’ll get hit for half.
F.e. I have 1.000 armor, and a warrior hits me for 1.000
If i have 2.000 armor, the warrior will now hit me for only 500.

The new LB are only there while they transition to Leagues, they’ve gone on record saying this multiple times now.
ArenaNet also previewed new maps / gamemodes, nothing happened.
They talked about a spec/build-safe-system … we still don’t have it.
We had a CDI about the Ranger and what would be nice to have / what should be done… nothing happened yet.
There are a lot of concerns regarding balancing, and not only the new one about the celestrial meta. We still f.e. have turrent engis with annoying turrets.
We have posts after posts about bugs, but f.e. I can still teleport myself into a wall.
Blue, why do you think the new LB will not stay for another year? Just because someone said so? I choose to be vocal about it, and hope that it will have an impact. The LB has to go, asap, and not in a few month or worse.
Edit: For me, the ladder is a BIG problem. The only reason that currently keep me playing are the dailys and the wintersday rewards track. Not sure what I’ll do, once it is gone.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Suggestion for turrets: They have to scale with the stats of the Engineer.
Same damage as currently if they are played with an beserker amulet; otherwise it should be lower.
Same HP and defence as currenlty if they are played with a soldier amulet; otherwise it should be lower.
Same % regeneration if played with f.e. settler.

I think something like 15-30 seconds is better, keeping in mind that you reconnect to the game before you finish loading and you may persist for a few seconds before the game registers the disconnection.
I really like that idea. When I thought about it, I always missed the point, that you actually have already reconnected before you have finished loading.
Great idea!

Anyone know what other esports games do?
In other games the points you gain depends on how close you are to your MMR.
The simplest solution, and the solution I’d currently recommend is from World of Warcraft.
Our old ladder system just ranked us depending on our MMR, but it was possible to reach the highes MMR with a lucky 3 games win streak. With a point system, where you first have to farm up points very slowly, you are not put onto the front page after 3 wins, it will take some time to climb up the ladder. And in the meanwhile your MMR will adjust, and the first 3 lucky games will count less.
But once you have play ~50 matches, your score points should be near your MMR. And since the points rewarded depend on your current MMR, once player might end up on the ladder with 1700 points, and another with 1900, depending on how good he was.
Other games take those points, and place them in a league system. Instead of just earning points, you are placed in a division, and to jump from one division to the next one, you also have to have a certain win chance while facing opponents at around your current division level.
The league system should be the end goal, since it offers small goals for the players. It is far more encouraging to climb up a single division and to just earn another “100 points”, but for starters, the obove mentioned system from WoW would be nice too.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Perhaps they could provide users with a choice when they queue for Ranked, selecting either Season Leaderboard or Ranked Leaderboard. Alternatively, you could just play Unranked, as it was intended.
Since from the last information I got the profession MMR is not live yet, I have to use unranked for messing around with twinks/funny specs I’m not so familiar with to not interfere with my other MMR, when I at least try to play serious
F.e. I play unranked with a Static Discharge Engi.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Don’t like the solution. With such a system I could only play if all of my four friends are around, where I have the max winning chance. I could not use subs or just play with two of them.
In such a system it would also be best, if I just played with all of them at around 6am where I get no other teams, and can farm soloqer all day long.

I actually prefer playing every profession with berserker amulet. No need to cry xD
Is berserker amuelt less forgiving than f.e. celes? ofc
Is a beserker mesmer strong than f.e. a berserker warrior? also true
Does that make mesmer op? kitten no, because how about picking a cele or soldier amulet on your warrior and then wracking the mesmer?^^

Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
My suggestion would be that you don’t take damage when you destroy the clones. The fact that the Mesmer just avoided an attack because the player hit a clone should be enough reward. No need to crit for 2,5k on top of that.
You are mixing some things together.
The only possible punishments from killing clones are
- Retaliation (from Phantasms if traited, otherwise they have to get buffed with Retaliation first).
- If traited: 33% chance to get 2 Stacks of 4 Second bleeding.
- If traited 3 seconds of confusion.
-> normal shatter mesmer has neither of those three traits.

(edited by Teutos.8620)
they just need to make clones transparent like phantasms.
I’d love to test that out to see how much the finding-process really effects the survivability of mesmers.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
For all the passive AI work being done by phantasms and clones, a Mesmer should get toned down. It’s pretty much why Ranger Pet’s (cat’s/birds) got nerfed. Too much passive damage output by the AI’s allowing the Ranger to sit back.
It really depends which mesmer build we are talking about. I’d not mind to tone down some of the passive ai stuff, and give the mesmer more active things.
F.e. bring all the clones in line with the gs / sword clones, that you can’t abuse the staff / scepter clones for condi stacking.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
I only hate mesmers because I can’t for the love of my life figure out how to fight them.
That’s the problem with the mesmer balancing.
The newbie players are getting confused by the clones and the teleport-mechanic, that the mesmer is too strong at the bottom tier.
But at some point, the players get better, don’t have that newbie problem anymore, figure out very easy where the mesmer is, and how to counter them, and then eat them for breakfast.

Anything that adds hidden rules like: Terror: Damage no longer affects fears from Reaper’s Protection or Runes of the Nightmare. is either bad design or more evidence of fake notes.
Maybe bad design, but fear in the current form needs some adjustments.

Well, the update also included some really good things for me.
- 4vs5 are reduced significantly at least for me; I don’t agree with your statement, that they occur as frequently as before.
- I really like the unranked queue. With two matchmakings I can have one (unranked) for messing around / playing with twinks and unexperienced friends, and ranked where I just want to give my best.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend

The problem is, that the advantage a specific team has over soloq players is not the same as another team might have.
In the advance, do you know if the team are using a communication tool? Do you know how good they are with communication? Do you know if they manage to focus a specific target or if they are using the ingame focus tool?
In my team I had many 2-player and 3-player-premades, but not all of them where an enrichment to my team.
There are two thing currently I would love to have addressed asap:
MMR → There are three sign, where you can see, that the current MMR is not working properly.
1.) win-rate: If you are playing with teammates at about your own mmr, and against a team with about the same mmr, after a few games you should end up with about 50% win rate. There are too many players out there with 80%+ win rate. That means either they got rated too low, there opponents too high, or you screwed up while putting a group together.
2.) blow-out-matches: A match where the loosing team did not even reach 150 points. In the old SoloQ System they only occurred in a 4vs5 situation; with the new system I’d say, they occur about 50% of the time. I have been on both sides (winning and losing).
This is the result of wrongly rated players → some to low, some to high;
3.) Playing with and against all sorts of players. One match you are playing against a member of one of the top teams (f.e. CM, 55HP), and next match with/against warriors not using ‘healing signet’ or necros using ‘Signet of the Locust’ and so on.
Solving the MMR problem first, will enrich the quality of the matches, and maybe even be able to solve our teamsVSpugs problem.
points accumulation
How many points you get should depend more on the MMR. Figuratively the points should slowly pull you towards your MMR. (similar to how WoW or a league system works).
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend

Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Greater emphasis on win-loss ratio is a bad idea.
All the developers need to do is attach point gains to MMR, which is what every other game, from World of Warcraft to chess, does.
How does the current system not accomplish this?
WoW combines MMR and points generated. How much points you get depend on your elo-rating.
Some examples:
Your current score: 2.000; elo-rating: 2.220 → A win gives you +20 points; A loss -5 points since your score is much lower than your elo-rating.
Your current score: 2.000; elo-rating: 2.050 → A win gives you +5 points. A loss -5 points since your score and your elo-rating are nearly the same.

- Merge some Mantra traits.
Maybe include ‘Mantra Mastery’ in ‘Restorative Mantras’ and ‘Protected Mantras’ in ‘Harmonious Mantras’ or just combine ‘Mantra Mastery’ and ‘Protective Mantras’.
- Include a trait or improve an existing mantra trait with the ability to regain charges for a loaded mantra (f.e. after being out of combat for 10 seconds regain 1 stack if the mantra is not on cd)
- Buff healing skill ‘Mirror’ to 4.5k and reduce cast time to 1 second.
- Mirror Image should not drop the orb on “Spirit Watch”.
- Reduce aftercast from ‘Spatial Surge’ to make the weapon-stow-abuse obsolete.
- Portal-Range-Indicator

1.) The numbers don’t work out:
1 Aegis every 10 seconds is too strong. Comparing to every other possible sources of aegis, you’ll that aegis is very rare.
3s Protection every 10 seconds on Staff is also too strong; with boon duration you’d come to ~50% uptime. With the signet alone.
10s of might every 10 seconds on GS, so basically 1-2 Stacks of might for using the signet is not strong enough. => + of 70-140 stats, some signets give you 180 of a certain stat, but you are still only going to use those, if the active effect is strong enough.
=> good for defense, not good for offense.
2.) The passive should be very very week, but the active really strong. We don’t want passive play, but support a more active playstyle.
I’d suggest to improve the active ability further; cd reduction; maybe some addition benefits for sharing your boons (f.e. how about also refreshing the duration of the boons to 10 seconds for might/protection/regeneration and 5seconds for stability?)

Comparing the matchmaking from yesterday with todays matchmaking it feels really really strange.
Yesterday I played with and against know (ex Top 250) players, won most of the time (and ended the day with a + in points), so my matchmaking should not have taken a big hit.
Today I had both, good players and new-ish. F.e. a downstate-mesmer, people leaving spots open and not paying any attention and jsut running around to zerg and at the end even a ranger who used ‘Rampage As One’ right on the spawn / at the start of the game – on purpose – to get the swiftness – while having ‘Signet of the Hunt’ equipped.

You forget – mender’s purity on 15s instead of 20.
That’s why I’m comparing health per seconds (without healing power).
Mirror: 3915 / 15 = 261 hps
Eather Feast: 5560 to 7480 / 20 = 278 to 374 hps (depending on how much clones are active when used)
hps does not look much, but during a one minute battle it means 6700 health more or less.
(Fully traited mantra has an even stronger hps potential, but since it requires a lot of trait points to be spent, I’m not gonna talk further about it)
multiple projectiles (talking wvw here, and there are always enough flying around – only exceptions are if you run 1v1 into a GS shatter mesmer, melee ranger and similar builds) mirror will mitigate what extra damage you will take while using the other heals.
In a zerg vs zerg battle you might be right, but for everything else I’d still recommend Eather Feast. You don’t know which opponents you are going to face, the chance is higher, you are going to need the extra health and not the reflect portion of the skill.
And it does matter regarding total health pool – if I started of at say 25k, but during the course of a fight was never able to heal up again beyond 18k, then either there’s no point in having all that health or I should be using a bigger heal.
The point of health / vitality is to soak the damage once, not multiple times – to not get bursted down so quick.
F.e. your healthpool is 20k, you get damage and drop back to 10k, now you have two options:
Do you want to use healing skill a for 5k or b for 7k? Both will not bring you up to 20k, but one will heal you for 2k more…
It does not matter how long (because of your toughness) it took the opponent to push you down to 10k.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Regarding defensive stats, if you have high toughness, then the lower heal of mirror will count for more than if you are full glass. However if you have high vitality pushing your health pool over 20k (I never do this – vitality is a very low priority for me, mainly to absorb falling damage), then Mirror will be less effective as a percentage of your overall health pool – there’s no point in having a high health pool if you’re never able to heal up beyond 75% of it in a fight.
It does not matter how big the % is you can heal up, as long as it is not over not overhealing.
Toughness vs Vitality is another topic.
We are simple talking about the effective health returned through the healing skill. The choice is between about: 270hps or up to 370hps… your choice, ofc you can choose the lower one…
In wvw, mirror is amazing, seriously amazing. In pvp it is situational (depends on enemy team composition) but usually ether feast is better.
Ofc you can pick mirror and hope you will face a profession attacking you with projectiles… but most of the time you are just loosing out on health.
In pvp where you can use line of sight and have to avoid possible interrupts, and players are actually able to stop attacking you, mirror is even less useful.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Depending on the build, Mirror can be a fantastic heal.
Of course, more effective in high toughness/medium-low vitality, with other sources of regen such as from phantasms, stealth, or other skills.
What has high toughness / medium-low vitality to do with the healing skill? Because if you can tank more damage, you can play without a good healing skill?
Mirror is for those rare cases, where the reflection duration outweighs the loss of gained health. F.e. for boss fights, where you want to absorb the projectile and can’t dodge it, or when you don’t need the heal, but want to reflect back the projectiles for more damage.
