I’d add one more:

6. Leaving Death Shroud should count as a weapon swap back to the weapon you had equipped before entering DS. This would allow on-swap sigils to proc, again providing a reason to “dip into DS” as ANet has encouraged.

I think a few relatively small changes like these — small conceptually, but perhaps not code-wise — could really add some polish and address long-running (other-than-bug) issues.

This lack of communication is making me feel a little antsy.

First a long stretch with no communication at all, then about a week of red comments and now nothing again. I’d love have updates about what they’re working on

You are right indeed, it’s better if Anet communicate with us and try to solve the biggest issues 1st before solving the mini ones. The biggest issue we ( necromancers ) have is minions AL , Anet will be awesome if they fix it. XD

Healing power should affect all sorts of life stealing including vampiric , vampiric master and vampiric precision traits.

I loved to play Necromancer in RIFT, AoC, EQ1,EQ2,DaoC, Vanguard etc etc etc……. but in Guildwars 2 its something else, its not better , no its worse than all other games ever offered as necro Class.

I love to have Pets and the main reason i dont play this strange Necroclass in GW 2 is because the pets just loose HP but dont regen any HP back after combat. Thats most disturbing for me because i have never played a necromancer were pets just loose HP and die.

In addition i dislike this strange cooldown that activates after a pet died, i want to recast my pets after they died and not 20-30 seconds later. This just slows me down and ruins smooth gameplay..

I know the Pets/minions can be healed but thats not enough for me to become interested in this class. Its just to strange.

These Minions and Pets should all have HP regen like the Ranger Pets have and i mean all the smallest up to the biggest should heal.

One Necro pet has this regen thats why i see many necros just with this one big pet but isnt it a waste ?

The whole necro class in GW2 should be deleted and redesigned the way other games show it. GW2 has stolen so many features of other games why not simply copy/paste the necro class from successful mmorpgs with some special features ?

The best Necros in GW2 are those without Minions/pets and thats not a Necromancer

The Necro in GW2 is no necro its something like a Warlock………..

Modest Necro change suggestions for ANet

Some small ideas I’d suggest. Comments? Other specific changes?

1. Change Reanimator (Death Magic’s Adept minor trait) to heal your minions for a percentage of Life Force you gain. Even if minion AI were exceptional — which it’s not — you need the option in certain encounters to be minionless and choosing any traits in the Death Magic trait line means you can never do this. This change would still add a bit of oomph to minions, if you have them out, but would have no effect if you were minion-less. It even fits with the trait name: you’re reanimating your minions which otherwise don’t regenerate health.

2. Change Deathly Invigoration (Blood Magic IX) so that it is also a blast finisher (no damage) in addition to the heal. We seem to lack blast finishers, and it would be a great reason to dip into DS.

3. When you enter Death Shroud, have it work more like other Elites and form changes: lock out the top five skill slots, swap the bottom five utility slots, and swap the health and life force meters so that the ball is green and shows life force while the horizontal bar is red and shows health. If conditions/boons affect you in Death Shroud (I’m not sure, personally), move them to the appropriate place: by the ball if they affect you in Death Shroud form, by the horizontal bar if they affect you once you leave. Also, change the trim around the life ball, so even a red-green colorblind person can tell that it’s now life force and not health.

That way, you can watch cooldown timers, conditions/boons, etc, and it would be more consistent with other forms. I imagine that at some point Death Shroud was unaffected by boons/conditions, and since health cannot change in Death Shroud (either increase or decrease), it made sense to hide all those details. But it no longer makes sense.

4. Have Spectral Recall be a blast finisher and maybe also apply a brief cripple — at the point the Recall is used not at the point you return to.

5. Fix minion AI. It’s easy for us to suggest magic “make it work”, but I’ll try to give an example of specific rules.

First, GW2 should track what targets (within some radius) you have attacked (done something that would have thrown you into combat if you weren’t already), that have attacked you, and that have attacked your minion within the last X seconds.

If you target a player/mob and attack and the minion is not already attacking something else, the minion should attack that target until that target is dead (down?) or would cause the minion to pursue beyond leashing range from you.

If the minion does not have LOS or a path to this target, it should teleport to you (who evidently have an LOS) and try to get LOS or a path. If the minion still cannot get LOS or a path to the original target, it should try with your current target (if that target has attacked or been attacked). If it cannot get LOS or a path to this current target, it should attack the nearest target that has attacked or been attacked and is still in combat.

If the minion cannot attack any other valid target(or there are no valid targets) but is itself being attacked, it should attack the strongest of its attackers.

If you attack multiple targets (e.g. AoE or a bouncing attack) but one is your current target, the minion should go after that target in particular. If you attack multiple targets without having a specific target selected your minion should attack the closest one to you.

If the minion is not already attacking something and you are attacked, the minion should attack the closest of your attackers. If you move out of the minion’s leashing range, the pet should follow you until it is adjacent to you, ignoring attacks on itself if necessary. (Even if it dies in the process. You have to manage your minions at least a little bit.)

A minion should never attack a target that is not already in combat. A minion should never attack a target that you have not attacked or that has not attacked you or itself. A target should try to path in such a way that it does not aggro a mob that is not in combat. (Given some limitation, like the path should not be more than 20% longer than the most direct path.) After its target is dead, a minion should return by the most direct path to you before attacking anything else. If it cannot find a path to you that is within its leashing range, it should teleport to you.

(It really is complicated to specify, and there are still issues like how to distinguish a situation where you’re running through an area and want to ignore everything and keep running and have your minion do the same. Also possible exploits of sending a minion to attack at almost leashing range, then stepping out of leashing range at a particular moment, etc.)

As I’m a pure MM , I support all your suggestions .

Deathly invigoration

Transfusion works on yourself, but you need to be in DS to use it and DS makes you immune to healing…

But if you’re channelling it and DS stops (because you’re at 0% Life Force) the skill will just continue and heal you. If you can time that right, you can actually heal for quiet a bit.

But I don’t want to heal my self , I’m talking about healing my minions.
Which will heal my minions more ? Transfusion or Deathly invigoration ?

My armor set focuses on Power , Vitality and Toughness.
My main weapon is staff ( got DD too > using it for siphoning in serious situations ).
now I’m level 70 and my hp is 23K, it’s rarely to drop to 10k(thanks to my minions which I rely on the to damage my foe and heal me all the time ).
I’m the last man standing in all dungeons and events because of that. Death shroud helps me alot to avoid death.
I believe that MM build is the best for Necromancers.

I’m for any change to DS, even the removal of DS.
It was a really stupid idea to give any character a second health bar, Any one that knows any thing about balance knows that will force the entire class to be subpar just to try to balance the clear OPness of having a second health bar.

Saying a necromancer isnt a guy with undead minions is like saying an archer isnt a class that specialises in ranged combat, or cleric isnt a class all about healings, or that an engineer isnt a class about gadgets…
Well this is GW2, we have warriors with rifles, rangers with great swords, and engineers with grenades. So a guess a necro with out minions fits right into this backwards game.

You are right somehow , I believe that warrior’s long-bow is more powerful than the ranger’s one , it’s same with warrior’s rifle and engineer’s one.
The funnies thing that Dual daggers is the best choice for the elementalist.
To be honest these stuffs are the main things that make GW2 the best game ever as it gives you choices without forcing the profession to equip a specific weapon.

yes but you need sacrifice 10 points in spite, Close to Death is a trait of grandmanster.

realy i dont see a real utility in spite t1 for minion master.

deathly invigoration only heal 250-300 and losse the vampiric master
transfusion heal to all party and minions 250-300 per pulse

reaper’s might only apply the migh to you, but the most usefull for full mm

But Close to death allows me to damage my foes more than reaper’s might does( overall ) , right ?

Knights gear is a good balanced choice.. the WvW Power + Toughness + vit is best imo, I think there is PvE gear with the same stats not sure I dont pve much.

U mean Soldier gear !!! > Got Vitality , Toughness and power.
Knight gear doesn’t have Vitality but Precision.

minions don’t do that much damage and true have those ai problems so it is good idea to boost your own offensive stats too. then good amoutn toughness and vitality and you are fine.
I haven’t find healing stat that important. most minions can be summoned pretty soon after death anyway

To be honest, id go full bersker, your stats do not affect them so might as well just go full blown damage or go with knights armor. I would say clerics if our heals scaled better to heal them or if they didnt die in 1 boss aoe in most fights. There is a set with power, vit, and toughness. Cant remember what it is called, but it comes from AC instance and arah i believe.

I still believe MM is just a horrible choice for necros because of bad ai, horrible damage, and lack of quick recast times for them.

So there isn’t such a set that focus on Vitality , Toughness and Condition Damage ?
or Vitality , Toughness and Healing Power ?

I have hearty armor set ( from level 45 ) with good upgrades and I’m doing fine.
I want to focus on Vitality and Toughness and other useful stat.
I’m confused between these sets >> Shaman , Soldier , Magi and Apothecary.
As Life stealing isn’t affected by healing power it won’t be much useful.
My main weapon is Staff and got DD as second.
Is there any other set that got Vitality , Toughness and Condition damage ?

To be honest, they are undead controlled by the necromancer’s will, which means they follow the necromancer’s mind.

Did u see resident evil films? those are not zombies, those are the livings that got infected by a virus (different from undead – minions were never alive to begin with).

You make a good businessperson – things that don’t work are “working as intend”.
This is a fantasy game, please don’t limit it’s possible capacity with thoughts like that.

Minions AL still there
If it fixed , we will say it’s a good update.
It will be better if Life Steal affected by Healing power ( vampiric and vampiric master ).

Minions

Just to throw it in there, I never had a proper with the Minions on pathing or not acting fast enough. Not sure if its a bug for you guys but my Necro is a Charr Male.

My Issues so far is trying to chain summon minions. When my minions die and Cooldowns are up, if you dont summon the Shadow Fiend first, it will cancel and cause a cooldown interruption reset, if you try to summon a different minion at any time.

Another Issue is they die to fast. I am almost level 40 to be able to increase their health by 50% but in the mean time, I seem to have issues on dealing enough damage to a target(s) 1-3 or 1-7 in time before I die.

I use Dagger/Dagger and Axe/Focus since they are easy for me to make a chain dance with them. My spec is 0/0/10/0/10 with 1 and 2 trait.

Pure minion master should use Staff as main weapon to heal his minions via Mark of Blood skill.

The main problem with minions right now is that everytime you want them to attack something they just sit there in a circle around a campfire laughing and singing hippie songs and getting stoned.. and don’t respond at all when you tell them to go to work

Who are you to say that minions AL has been fixed ??? A developer ?
