I’m a necromancer , what is the best looking skins to use ?

As our minions don’t benefit from our stats you should focus on condition damage as your main weapon should me Staff to heal them.

What about Mantras? I remember a while ago people saying they are absolutely useless. In PvE some of the better utilities aren’t so useful (Null Field is one for sure, although it’s another ethereal combo), so I’m thinking maybe Mantra of Pain if its any good. Maybe also Mantra of Recovery, but I assume that won’t be as good until I get the 3 mantra trait

I use Mantra of recovery and pain ( both are traited ) , they will give you the most healing you can ever get from your class. Mantra of Pain will damage and heal at the same time.

I think dmg displayed on skill is base dmg that is then calculated with other factors. My whirling defense make around 5-7k depending on setup but never 12k+ like it would if dmg was 1k per hit.
If it’s neither 1008 nor 84 , what is the right damage per hit ?

Swapping is to too important. If you have dual axes , get long bow for it’s high damage ( skill 3 and the strongest burst ).
Build Adrenaline with 5th axe then swap to LB for its burst.

ANet to come out and make vague statements about a “major” rebalancing of AoEs without specifying the profession(s) and skill(s) that prompted their concern. It just created unwarranted panic in the streets.

I used to use Rifle rarely before the patch ( that made kit to be affected by sigils ).
Now I got P/P just for the sigils > bloodlust and battle , and I rarely use my pistols as I find explosives to be more than enough .Up to you. I find in your case, having a rifle to replace grenades worth more than 1 sigil.
Pros:

-jump shot for jump puzzle
-1 more trait,
-1 more utility slotCons:
-1 less sigil
- Further range , but much less damage -2X and much less critical chances as grenade got the highest critical chances (3 hits in 0.5 sec ) for us.
- You can swap to rifle just for the jump puzzle !
- 1 more trait ? I have to get the 25th explosive minor skill to stack 25 Vulnerability in seconds.
- There isn’t any utility slot better than grenade as I focus on explosives ( all my build ).

yes. you can start with smoke bomb if you engage more than 4 foes at a time, or foes with stun/knock. start with bomb3 then bomb2 if you want more damage. if all else fails run in circles and keep dropping bombs (i killed a champion this way). always kill the range mob first. damage for bomb1 is usually between 600 – 1200 (non-crit) and its aoe.
So you are saying that it’s stronger than traited grenade ? ( without critical attacks )

Only a necromancer kill rabbits , rats , hawks , eagles , racoons , …… etc >> They are too important to him as he lands him Mark of blood on them to heal his minions .

For engineers , bomb is the safest and strongest weapon at the same time.
You don’t even need to look to your foe , with speedy kits and power shoes u can just run and spam bomb skills with some mines. All melee foes will not be able to catch you , will they ?

Use staff for MM bild. I know the damage of the staff is very limited but it’s the best way to keep your minions from dyying.
Giving regen to minions,, transfers conditions of the minions to enemies. Poison combo field with Putrid Mark blast finisher gives a long weakness debuff to enemies. Heals from well of blood, and traits for healing with syphoon and leaving death shroud. all help to keep your minions alive.
Staff is the main MM weapon and no one can deny that !!!
