I especially ‘like’ the justification for some design choices. Like the elementalist’s low health…so we can give them more support…yet the ele doesn’t have more support, they just have more variety in their support. The warrior and thief comments are the same. In fact, it’s funny how they use the thief as an example for being squishy when they have the best evade mechanic in the game and still have medium health and armor!
It really shows that Anet’s reality and actual reality are 2 entirely different things. Anet simply recognizing that would do a lot for actually fixing this game.
This is just one of those things that result from the whole ‘o look, we got a shiny megaserver like ESO’-mentality. Rather than making a working feature patch, we get half-finished junk.
The thing with review sites is that they hardly ever have time to truly delve into a game. So the issues that veteran gamers have, like those with the mega server for example, never get shown in the reviews.
Of course Guild Wars 2 is a great game, with many innovative features, and a great storyline when you first unpack it. But that’s also because the half-finished, buggy stuff doesn’t show up until at least level 60 or so. Or the fact that in order to truly depreciate the Living Story, you’d have to be playing it from the start.
I still don’t understand why people compare this to P2P games and whine about infrequent content updates.
It’s actually the opposite. People were getting sick and tired of the biweekly updates.
If gem buyers start to diminish, they will soon pump out content to bring people back.
It’s the quality that’s lacking, not the quantity. They just added a feature patch, but it was either half-complete (MegaServer) or not what the players wanted (lack-of-) skill balance).

The flaws of the game have been discussed at great length on these forums. Some of them are severe enough to cause great irritation among players (even resulting in a 2 week forum ban for myself). So I thought to myself…what would the devs need to change to make me happy?
There are tons of minor annoyances in the game that to me, greatly devaluate my gameplay. It’s also things that I personally feel should be relatively obvious and easy to fix. If they were adressed, it would improve my gaming experience a lot. To the point where I’d rather have these fixes than new content or features.
Keep in mind that these are issues I run into every single day. While they’re all minor by themselves, the fact that they keep popping up repeatedly makes them a major irritation factor.
Some examples:
- Winning ‘temple defense’ events rewards less than losing and recapping.
- Warriors being invulnerable with their healing signet. I don’t mind losing, but at least the illusion that I’m actually doing something to them would be nice. At the moment I feel that I might as well give up because I’m never gonna get their hp bar to drop to more than 90%.
- Skill timers being inconsistent with actual casting animation duration.
- Infused ascended celestial items having lower stats than their non-infused counterparts.
- Banging my head against invisible platforms during jumping puzzles.
- Improper scaling of certain dynamic events that makes them virtually impossible to do.
- Anet finally lowering the passive on healing signet, only to lower damage even more in the same frikkin patch.
- The extreme high price of the new traits, combined with the inability to reliably attend their unlock events (Temple of Lyssa for example).
- Guild bounty bosses used to be repeatable during a single bounty. This was a great way to make sure all guild members got their daily rewards. This was ‘fixed’, resulting that a single guildie helping another group defeat the boss can ruïn the reward for the rest. With megaservers, it got even worse because it also counts across instances now.
- Hard counter traits. I know they’re easier to implement than actual balance, but it makes the game more about the luck of the draw than player skill.
- Guilds that do missions together no longer both get the reward (even if clicking ‘accept reward’).
- Forum moderators removing a long post completely because a small part is against the rules. A lot of effort went into said post, at least send us a copy to our inbox so we can re-post it already!
- Running down a hill and getting killed by ‘falling damage’.
- Dungeons being 95% about stacking. (I know this one is NOT easy to fix, but I just had to vent it
)
Of course, these things will vary per person, so feel free to add your own. The main point I’m trying to make here though, is that quality over quantity isn’t neccesarily the best way to go. I’d rather have 1 good patch every 3 months than one riddled with bugs and annoyances every 2 weeks.
(edited by ThiBash.5634)
Before the patch, I used a build planner to calculate my effective power. It showed that Soldier’s was more poerful than Celestial, until I started adding my boons (10 stacks might and 75% fury uptime). It made a lot of difference because then Celestial came out ahead. Not sure about post-patch, but I imagine it won’t be a big difference between the two.
So the only way to see what gear works best for you is to take into account all variables. Just armor won’t cut it (though it’s interesting to see).
Elemental attunement is a borderline grandmaster trait. It is extremely useful. And I don’t believe we should get it for free. I wasn’t super happy about it moving to master tier. But it was reasonable. This is the best master trait for ele hands down. Couldn’t live without it.
Be careful. Because I have a suspicion that Anet plans to swap Elemental Attunement and Elemental Contingency if we complain about the latter being useless at grandmaster.

I know you’re annoyed and all, but I just got a funny image in my head that you logged on, saw all the french in chat and thought to yourself…
…sacre bleu, quel fromage est la dans le chat?…
Guardians need rune of Speed in PvP.
That in itself says more about the lack of game balance, but ok.
Look at my earlier proposal please. Would you rather have a rune that combines swiftness and passive movement speed (that cancel eachother out) or a rune that has either of these abilities, and something else?
My post was deleted because I said something about the quality of Izzy’s work.
So I’d like to apologize and say that Izzy is still as awesome at game balance as he was in Guild Wars 1. Keep up the good work Izzy! WHOOHOO!
Its good for classes that have little or no access to swiftness.
So you’re really ok with a rune that loses 2 of its bonusses simply because the other bonusses are that good for you?
Wouldn’t you rather have had something like:
Superior Rune of Speed
- +25 Vitality
- +15 some stat
- +50 Vitality
- +35 some stat
- +100 Vitality
- +35 some stat; +25% Movement Speed
or
- +25 Vitality
- +10% Swiftness Duration
- +50 Vitality
- 25% chance when struck to gain swiftness for 15 seconds. (Cooldown: 30 seconds)
- +100 Vitality
- +20% Swiftness Duration; +25% bleeding duration
You know, stuff that actually does something?
Oh dear, did the update take away all your dyes too?
Brilliant.
Would someone tell me why exactly the role players are upset?
In a nutshell:
-many town clothes (tonics) cannot be dyed at all now.
-the outfits only have 4 dye slots for the entire outfit, rather than ‘per piece’.
-town clothes tonics have to be reapplied every 15 minutes.
I’m sure there are others, but these are the ones I can somewhat relate to.
Came up in an interview; they said ‘definitely maybe someday’.
definitely maybe?
Doesn’t matter what they say, they’ll change whatever they like and say whatever’ll make you buy their game.
They ‘said’ that they would keep boon duration the way it was. Guess what?
Except that it gives lots of vitality and is one of two of the runes to give a passive 25% speed boost. As a Mesmer, such a rune is quite desirable. Why are you still here?
So the fact that half of the rune makes the other half worthless doesn’t bother you? Or the fact that there alternatives that are much better? Good for you. But for the rest of us, it’s obvious why this is a poorly designed rune. If anything, something that should have been thought about a little more during a hyped up ‘rune rebalance’ (Anet’s words, not mine).
(edited by ThiBash.5634)
Get it now?
No, we don’t. Swiftness is faster than 25% movement increase. The rune is called, “Rune of speed.” It’s a no brainer. If you don’t like it, choose a different rune.
The huge amounts of swiftness you get from the rune amount to a total of 8% speed buff! Have you even tried using swiftness while having Rune of Speed equipped? It’s hard to even notice the difference. It’s indeed a no brainer because nobody with a brain would pick it.
What dont you like about it?
Where do I begin?
-My townclothes got destroyed.
-My boon runes are gone.
-Celestial got a damage nerf and is bugged so infused celestial ascended has lower stats than non-infused.
-I now have to unlock traits rather than pick what I like, or pay huge amounts of gold for them.
-There was no actual balance change again. Instead, eles got a hard counter just so they would shut up about burst builds.
-Runes weren’t rebalanced, or if they did they were done by Anet’s janitor on his off-day. Rune of Speed still combines swiftness with a non-stacking passive movement buff.
And so on, and so on, and so on…
We have four mandadory traits in four different lines. Isn’t that good? Now we only need a mandadory trait in fire!
Somewhat, except this trait is specifically to not get instakilled by burst builds. I fear that ArenaNet will abuse this as an excuse to not balance eles further.
ArenaNetyou have a fix, see, your own fault for not taking it. eles are balanced perfectly now lets destroy some more town clothers!
I don’t like it either, but compared to some of the other stuff, this is minor.
They knew about the patch since like 3 weeks ago and they had 1 week to buy it 50% off.
Given the controversy of the actual patch, you can understand why they waited until the actual release notes.
It’s a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, they should have gone left instead.
Swiftness is 33% run speed. You probably didn’t know that otherwise you wouldn’t have asked.
Let me rephrase it so all of you understand: compared to swiftness, the 25% passive speed boost is for all intents and purposes, the same. Swiftness will give you an edge, true, but only in a race across the map, not in the small sprints that occur during combat. I’ve used both at the same time, and from experience I can tell you that in practice they’re pretty much the same thing.
Using permanent swiftness when you have a passive movement speed boost (or vice versa) is an utter waste because they don’t stack.
Get it now?
I think what he means is that after it triggers, you only have 9 seconds to use those 3 crits or they’ll be gone.
The thing is, people used to ‘pre-load’ the sigil by going into combat against a critter or something. With just 1 critical hit that’s fine, but with 3 it would mean they’d get 6 garatueed criticals in a row. And that’s a little much.
Stone Heart in general: awesome.
That’s why I don’t like it. We were finally moving away from mandatory traits, only to have another one added again.
And now for the bonus question: do passive movement speed bonusses stack with swiftness???
Sooo the glass is half full but upside down?
Hehe…that’s an awesome reply.
I’m for anything that’ll lower Anet’s income at this point.
I think it’s a fair complaint if Anet says they’re gonna rebalance the runes…
…and then show through Rune of Speed that they don’t.
I just wanted to say that I understand each and every decision made for every aspect of the game
Would you please explain Rune of Speed to me then?
Hint: I don’t understand why a rune set that gives a 25% passive movement speed boost needs a swiftness bonus.
Ready? Ok…GO!
Thanks DanyK, I’m glad you are enjoying it!
I’m so glad your arrogance allows you to post this. There is so much wrong with the patch that ‘thank you posts’ should be postponed until all of it is fixed.
lol! I hope no one takes you seriously…
Why exactly would that be? Look at it from my perspective:
-My celestial ele’s damage is nerfed to even less than the little amount it was before.
-Boon duration runes were removed, even after a promise they would be kept.
-3 out of 4 of my town clothes sets are now tonics and cannot be dyed.
-My 4th set (fancy winter clothes) can only be dyed as a whole (so my original dye setup is gone).
-There was no rune rebalance (otherwise Rune of Speed wouldn’t have swiftness and passive movement together in 1 rune).
-Did you even look at the new ele traits? The only viable one is a hard counter to burst builds. Much better than actual balance…not.
-Eles can now play healer! Yay! Nowhere in the game are healers needed or even viable.
-Previously unlocked PvP skins have to be bought again.
I could go on, but suffice it to say, I hope I’m not ignored.
All this effort to turn eles into healers…much easier than actually balancing them. Not that we need healers of course…
I’m spotting a trend: ascended gear, healers, new town clothes options…
ArenaNet: the company that gives you what you don’t need! Now with 20% more speed on Rune of Speed!
Well, to be quite fair…most of our damage was already less than that of warriors and thieves. So in a way, we got buffed because we now essentially get more damage reduction than other professions get against us.
This thread is no different than the +1000 others complaining about the living story and lack of permenant content. People have to accept it, Anet took a path and wanted to try it and they did, that’s what this lovely MMO-industry asked for: innovation. If you want new things, you have to accept experimenting and if you can’t accept experimenting, GW2 isn’t your game.
So basically, people aren’t allowed to give feedback on said innovation?
Innovation just for the sake of innovation is a poort business model.
I don’t know, I’m really disappointed right now. Theres alot of about this stupid patch that has me and many of my friends scratching their heads on how any of it got approved.
Agreed. I had expected the patch to not live up to Anet’s hype, but I never feared it’d be this bad.
who on EARTH at arena net thought this was a good idea?!
This as a whole sums up how I feel about the patch as a whole.
So the old rune of speed was useless because it combined a passive movement speed boost with swiftness buffs.
Fortunately, Anet rebalanced the runes and made the new rune of speed…
…combine passive movement speed buff with swiftness buffs.
Am I missing something here? Or did they just say they would rebalance runes but didn’t actually bother to…you know, re balance runes?
Look at Rune of Speed post balance, and think again if you truly think Anet did a ‘bang up job’.
Instead of having dyable town clothes, we get a dyable set instead. Boon duration runes (the ele’s bread and butter) were of course nerfed but any warrior-affecting runes were not. And instead of actual game balance, we get hard-counter traits.
What happened to the ArenaNet that made Guild Wars 1? Is this the best you can do? Hypes and underperforming functionality? Did you even try to make changes or do you actually believe Rune of Speed does something meaningful? Do you even know your own game?
What I don’t like about the new patch…phew…
Changing town clothes by making the new system have much less dye options than the previous one.
Anet saying they were gonna rebalance the runes, and yet keeping Rune of Speed the same.
I’m not sure why I keep getting on the hype train when Anet is so willing to show they don’t actually make an effort. The new Rune of Speed says it all.
So the old rune of speed was useless because it combined a passive movement speed boost with swiftness buffs.
Fortunately, Anet rebalanced the runes and made the new rune of speed…
…combine passive movement speed buff with swiftness buffs.
Am I missing something here?
No more instadowning people
And you have no idea why that’s a good thing?
I just did my usual test on the Champion Wolfmaster with my mesmer in Ascended Celestial gear and zerker weapons. I’m not looking forward to WvW tonight.
Why did I work so hard and long for that gear? Just to have this happen?
Did you also compare zerker gear pre and post? Because all the damage gear was nerfed, not just celestial. The relative damage may be higher now.
All I want to know is can I refund my town clothes and not my toys as how do I go about that.
I bought quite a few toys and I want to keep them. I do not however want my town clothes not even my witches outfit
I’d ask that in the mail to support. I’m sure you can pick what you want to keep and what you want to return.
It looked good on the site, then I saw it ingame and decided not to buy it. It’s just another variation on a theme we have way to many off.
Now, if they made an actual robe for females, I’d buy it in a flash (even after the town clothes debacle, go figure).
I am sorry, the OP said they could not be dyed at all, as one of his negatives. Whether the new dye scheme is pleasing to you or not, the fact remains they are able to be dyed.
True. Still a negative though, because the customization is a lot less.
The nerf for zerker is a lot bigger. Sure, celestial lost more critical damage, but the damage was lower to begin with. So the actual damage loss is a lot less, especially considering celestial got its power and precision buffed.
you can dye them, just not as separately as you could. So, that’s not negative. =)
That’s a big negative.
I feel bad for Chauncey von Snuffles III. >:
Yes. Again his chance for glory was taken away from him by organizers that’re unfair.
What I expected was for the new dailies to ‘transfer’…so for example, to have a daily kill variety of 8, with each profession in sPvP counting as 1, but each profession in WvW too, and then of course every mob in PvE.
I’m guessing that’s a bug. I’d recommend posting it in the bugs forum.
There are actually four dye areas on outfits, and I found out that you can hide the head, shoulder, and glove parts by hiding the corresponding armor piece. Not AS customizable as before but not nearly as complete a loss as this makes it out to be.
No, it’s a complete loss because I relied on the parts being separately dyable to make the outfit look good. I’m a huge Chauncey von Snuffles fan and I made my fancy winter outfit to match the minipet. That’s not longer possible, so for me that’s a huge loss.
I’d really expected the individual pieces to become armor skins instead.
I went from 4 good looking town outfits for my main to 0 in a single patch. I’d expected not to be able to properly dye some of them, but all four?
Such a big letdown. Sent my refund request straight away.
Phew. You scared me there!
