If I could use that trait on my elementalist though, I’d likely would do so.
This isn’t the only thing eles are getting, just the one they previewed. So stop boohooing over it already.
We can read, and we know. That’s not the point of the complaints. The point is that we get a trait that’s for all intents and purposes, useless. Nobody needs a healer…nowehere. Not even in WvW, because even if you do heal there, it’s the blast finishers that do all the work. Also, it doesn’t affect the squishyness of the ele in any way (something that was brought up many times) and to top things off, we’re not getting any real balancing because of these new traits.
If the rest is as poorly thought through as this one, then we’ll be in a worse state after the feature patch because everyone else gets at least semi-useful goodies.
I know this is unconstructive but I just had to make the joke…
Power Rangers always were a terrible tv show.
@ThiBash
I don’t know, I heard from lots of players ingame that they disliked that Elementalists cannot play group healer despite plenty skills and the whole stance suggesting it. Maybe that’s the purpose here.
That could very well be true, but the bigger picture is that healers aren’t needed anywhere in the game. Even in WvW, more heals come from people blasting and leaping through fields than from the actual heals themselves. That’s something Anet should have taken into account.
While I personally agree, plenty players want new traits.
I do not want to deny them their shinies, but I think they’ll either make things even more complex, or they’ll be left in the dust by the side of the road after the initial hype has passed.
At least ANet is listening to the players.
Hehe. The GM trait spoiler for the elementalist suggest otherwise. Players complained about eles having too little self-defense and healers having no purpose…so they got a healing boost to heals on all other players. That’s like, not listening to players twice in 1 trait. Quite impressive, really.
Just because one sylvari goes full tyrant on the world does not mean their entire race is to blame. In real life, humans have done things over the course of history that would make you shiver (Looking at you Hitler, Mengele, Staling and many others).
Does that mean the entire human race is to be hated and carefully watched as well?
No, but you’d be surprised how long it takes for people to become trustworthy towards oneanother again. The Dutch for example, had a longstanding resentment towards the Germans. Although not exactly hostile, it’s clear that many Dutch, especially from the WW2 generation, don’t like Germans in general. It has taken almost 70 years for them to completely ‘get over it’.
Also, I think it’s a culture shock to some that Sylvari aren’t the innocent, naïve children they appeared to be. They can be dangerous, and being the examples of nobility they used to be, this is an especially big failing for the people of Tyria.
There’s a rune that does just that: increase your speed. If you need it that badly, bring the rune.
Instead of introducing new traits and not balancing the old ones because there first has to be a new meta, how about…
…not introducing new traits and fixing the broken ones first? That would do a LOT more for the game, not to mention the fact that Anet themselves found out that willy nilly adding new stuff makes for a horrible balancing process.
it is free 500 healing power for cleric/magi/apothecary builds.
nothing wrong with that…
It’s not free, it costs you a grandmaster trait slot. It also doesn’t work on yourself, so it does nothing for personal survivability. And it’s a healer-skill…healers aren’t wanted in 95% of the game.
Condition removal on each regen application (that also works on yourself) is infinitely more useful.
Relax guys. The ele gets more healing that only affects others. At least your trait has a niche use…extra healing on other players is about as useless as it gets, given that most of our healing comes from blast finishers ratehr than our heals themselves.
And of course, the fact that nobody needs or wants a healer…anywhere.
I’m glad this isn’t as overpowered as I thought it was when I first read it. I was like: ok, eles get a useless heal and warriors get extra attack speed?! But if you guys don’t like it, then I’m ok with that.
Yes, let’s give the most powerful damage profession acces to the most powerful support abilities as well.
So if you’d combine the with Magnetic Shield, you’d basically become impervious to projectile builds? Just place your cheapest turrets every few seconds, and fill the gap with your shield. No longbow/axe ranger will ever beat you.
It must be an inside joke or something. Not only doesn’t this help out own survivability (something that’s been complained about for a long time), but it also fills a niche that’s unwanted in every part of the game.
A healer? Seriously? Who needs that? Why not give eles that +300 vitality trait?!
The Lionguard was also in the battle for Lion’s Arch.
And they’d still be fighting if it weren’t for the help we gave. I don’t expect them to kneel whenever they see me or anything, but a ‘get lost if you don’t have a work order’ could have been a little more friendly.
Nore that all of this is an in-lore discussion, not something I blame Anet for. I like how the Lion Guard are just dressed up mercenaries with the manners of an unbaked potato.
You forgot option 10…:)
10. Uhuh.
[Spoilers] Trahearne & the Living Story: WTF?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: ThiBash.5634
This is the point where we can see that Sylvari are not just plant-made humans. They have no emotions, and no brains. At the very least Trahearne should have sent a token force to protect one of the Pact’s greatest allies, resources and the strongest bastion against the dragons.
But he doesn’t even realize that.
Is it just me or does the Lionguard seem…ungrateful? The one I meet at the grand piazza basically tells me to get lost, and the ones near the bank tackle me just for passing through. I did their job and this is how they repay me?
Bunch of ungrateful losers…
Liked it in general. Only thing I disliked was not having a “didn’t like killing but it had to be done” option in the dialogue. The rest was pretty cool. I would have liked it without the free goodies at the end too.
I don’t think Evon is a bad guy. It’s just that he’s more…practical. Just like Pyre in GW1…the Charr have a different set of morals, but also a different view on things. They use others as tools to gain an advantage, because that’s their way of doing things.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Why is it so wrong to want to roleplay a character?
And I mean that in earnest. Everywhere I go there seem to be some people that go on the verbal offensive just because they don’t like the way some people enjoy the game.
You may not care about the dialogue options…others may get more immersed. If anything, you’re the one who are missing out on something becaue you can never imerse yourself enough in anything to actually experience what roleplaying and immersion can bring you.
Bottom line is: it’s not fun if the writers decide what character you are, if the rest of the game allows you to make one based on your views. If you get a main character created by the game then it’s something completely different. But this isn’t some random macho cop gone rogue…this is my frikkin’ character and she does NOT enjoy killing!
…why were there options if they were all the same? Why was there no I didn’t like killing but it was neccesary? Why the insistance on our characters being bloodthirsty killers?
P.S. I did like the rest of the dialogue though. Especially the bit where Taimi explained her work to Braham.
In other words, if another class will always do a job better then the Elementalist, why would one ever be used?
Because they can do multiple jobs at the same time.
Depends on when you made it. It’s probably even more expensive if you crafted it right after ascended armor was released.
The main reason it’s called ‘holy’ is because some players seem to worship it as the ultimate answer to game balancing. But it doesn’t have to be. I for one prefer the current setup.
What short story? Would you please link it?
And to Anet: could you please make it so I don’t have to browse half the web just so I can get to read your own frikkin’ lore?
Finally, an ending that fits the quality of the character!
And remember, it’s not just 1 earthquake…there’ve been dragons waking up that have more power than hundreds of nukes. Multiple dragons. And given what happened when the desert dragon woke up, I’d say massive changes to the landscape aren’t that farfetched.
Or it could be a mesmer that made everything feel and look like a tall male human.
Ok, thanks for the info. Does that include the scene in Lion’s Arch where Heal-o-Tron ‘saves’ her?
When players are blatantly pushing their AFK’ness in your face, time after time, it’s time for ANET to do something.
Yes, it may be, but the answer is not to make afking a bannable offense. Make it impossible to afk during an event and get credit for example.
I dislike the sylvari in general, but their anatomy actually bothers me least of all.
You only disable the security system in the personal story. You don’t destroy it. So why would it be gone a year later?
I find it a cool touch that they added it. It should be there, regardless of personal story.
This same problem has existed since launch and people have been posting about it for over a year.
Do not hold your breath.
It’s very apparent they have no solution or interest in fixing this.
Not true. They have made changes to pets’ health bars and vulnerability to agony. It hasn’t totally fixed the problem, but you cannot say Anet isn’t trying.
That means that the OP cannot buy it straight out as he said.
As for the material cost, I’ve just crafted some pieces and it cost me roughly 100g for a chest armor and 100g for a leg armor. The other pieces will be cheaper, but I think between 400 and 500g for a full set would be a good estimate.
All pets except the elite earth elemental that is. They survive just fine.
Anet can’t even clarify that using a macro for an emote is against their ‘1 button press’ rule. They have rules against automated gameplay yet make turrets and ranger pets able to do just that.
What makes you think an official statement will remove grey areas and give players a clear guideline?
If anything, they keep things vague intentionally so they can bend the rules more easily.
Isn’t it account bound on pickup?
A warrior COULD go full healing Power. It would make the heal from the Signet be 483 per a second (1817 Healing Power) while the heal from Signet of Restoration would be 384 Per a cast with the same Healing Power.
The wiki didn’t show it scales. That’s my mistake then, sorry.
Something to note: I have seen that the “Healing Per Cast” isn’t actually right, the number would actually be LOWER than the heal i was getting from it. Anyone else notice this?
I didn’t. Could it be because of the PvP nerf not being shown in the tooltip by chance?
I think what also helps is that human settlements actually feel like there’s people living there. Somehow, that never happened to me with the other races. Asura have labs, not homes. Sylvari have bushes. Charr have…more like fortresses.
The only races with actual civilians are the humans and norn, and the norn have individual houses. But any human town actually feels like a town.
No argument there. The topic has derailed but it did reveal something useful: warriors get the same healing regardless healing power. This is probably the root of the problem, because it allows them to get full effect from their signet without any investment.
Maybe making Healing Signet scale with healing power instead of being a fixed number could solve the problem. It’d have to start lower of course, but it would force the warriors to choose between damage and defense, rather than get both because the defense is the same no matter what.
It could also simply be that game objects already made were reused to create the control room.
I’m still wondering how ‘using the options on turrets and pets implemented by Anet themselves’ is actually against the rules, and now you’re telling me that ‘not being behind your pc and not doing anything’ is a bannable offense as well?
Guess I’d better not answer the door or get a drink then, because I might end up losing my account!
I think a tab added to the Personal Story, where you can read what happened in the Living Story, would be an excellent idea.
First off, the Salad people are the driving force behind the game’s main storyline. Without them, there would be no GW2. The plants did appear when the dragons started waking up. The Dragons and Sylvari are connected in some way. This connection is a mysterious one that is worth exploring.
There may be a connection, but to say that without them there would be no GW2 is kind of ludicrous, sorry.
Plus the NPCs for this group are more complex. They’ve got strengths, flaws, and obsessions.
That goes for all races except the Sylvari. There’s nothing complex about them at all. Either they are ‘save the world and make everyone work together because they are too dumb to figure that out by themselves’ or they are not. There’s no middle ground. Sylvari are always perfect in whatever they do. Caithe is a perfect thief and portayed as the only one not stupid enough to realize cooperation is the key to victory. Trahearne is the same and gets an uberpowerful magic sword to boot. One of the best blacksmiths according to the story is a Sylvari (chosen over a Charr no less!). Sylvari are immune to dragon corruption. Sylvari can view the future. Scarlet (Sylvari) is the smartest being on the planet. Even the flawed Sylvari, Canach, causes more trouble than most other minor villans.
Personally, I’m kinda sick of the ‘if it is something special, a Sylvari did it’ attitude that keeps popping up through the entire lore. For once, let the Pale Tree be just that…a frikkin tree!
It’s also possible that the devs are bored by the storylines for the other races.
For example, humans in this game aren’t as amazing as in GW1, and that goes double for Logan, whose great-great-granny was an awesome, unique, spicy character to have on the Heroes team. Logan himself is too bland and follows the rules too much.
That’s because THAT is his flaw. He’s been so torn up by the Destiny’s Edge breakup that he’s trying to be a perfect person in every other way. He’s still atoning for something he ultimately knows he’d have done again if he could change it. At the first meeting with his old groupmates, he immediately goes aggressive towards Rytlock. A noble, smart and bland person wouldn’t have done that.
Yes, that would have been very interesting. My biggest gripe with Scarlet (other than her backstory) was the fact that even when we ‘beat her’ it never really felt as if we even slowed her down. It was more of a ‘how cute are those heroes lets feign a fight just so they feel useful’.
I know there’s a dialogue between Kiel and Heal-o-Tron about not going to fight Scarlet, but I’ve been trying for a while now and I could never see it. I’ve been standing near Kiel for an hour, I’ve been standing near the portal (where I first saw a glimpse of it) but no matter what I try, I just can’t find it.
Would someone please give me a (link to a) transcript of this dialogue please?
I’ve even heard that Heal-o-Tron gets exhonorated by the Seraph…is that true?
Have you ever read an awesome fantasy novel written by a bureaucratic accountant? Because that is what you’ll get if you insist on balancing out the numbers/screentime rather than just letting a story flow naturally.
