My god people.. they added one tier of gear as a one-time gameplay improvement, why the kitten is everyone acting like this is the apocolypse?
Because even in the tier itself, there’s already a gear threadmill. There are multiple versions of the same Ascended back item, getting progressively more powerful.
So even a reassurance that no more tier will be added isn’t enough to ensure there’ll not be any power creep.
I’m planning on upgrading my backpack (once mind you, no desire to get the extra better version of the same item) but I have no desire to run the fractals all the way down.
Even though I do like the idea behind it, the added gear is something I don’t like. Especially since there’s even a power difference between the different pieces of ascended gear.
No, I’ll take the fractal fun but the ascended gear can go someplace the sun doesn’t shine…maybe that underwater fractal.
I’m the type that doesn’t like to be arbitrarily categorized by others.
The best advice I can give you is to get very defensive gear (something like Power/Toughness/Vitality) and learn how to play with that. It’ll give you some breathing room, will allow you to make a mistake without dying instantly. Then, when you’ve got the general feel for things, you can swap in some more offensive gear.
(And have you tried Whirlpool (the underwater elite)? Even after a 33% damage nerf and being limited to only 5 targets per damage pulse, it still rules under water.)
It only rules because the rest of your underwater skills don’t.
Also, I find it very rude that every single time someone starts a thread in this forum asking if the elementalist is any fun, the first reply is always “no, go play warrior”. These people want to know about how to play an elementalist, not something else. You don’t get to decide for them.
So you ask a question, and when it gets answered, you get angry becuase you disagree with the answer? Seriously, if you don’t want people to ‘decide for you’ then decide by yourself. Don’t come asking other people what you should decide.

There’s still that bug with Evasive Arcana where Churning Earth doesn’t count as a blast finisher…
Elementalist heals in general are kinda… crappy. The glyph isn’t terrible, but all of them are kinda mediocre compared to other classes heals. I’m unsure why popping it has such a long cooldown base or why the heal per attack is so low.
Because you can buff the signet through traits so much it’ll outclass just about any healing skill in the game.
Or do you think ‘Healing+Protection+Swiftness+Fire Shield+Fury+still get healing on skill use’ isn’t worth a skill slot?
Indeed. We’re still as good (or bad) as we were, except it’s only half as fun to play.
post non-insulting requests for bug fixes in the Game Bugs forum.
We did that. They didn’t respond.
There’s no easy way. It’s more that you can combine them in different ways and what you want to achieve greatly dictates what choices you make.
And that’s not even considering your weapon, skill choice and trait setup.
Is it just me or does anyone else feel that having a Public Test Realm would stop things like this from happening…
It wouldn’t have. They’re not listening to feedback now, why would that change when they add another server?
No gear threadmill?

Yeah, right.
And they said they wouldn’t add another rarity? Well guess what, they don’t have to! just make items of the same rarity with different stats!
Well, ArenaNet did mention they would add some different ways to get it. My suggestion would be to wait for that.
Halloween had events that you had 2 days instead of 1 to complete.
It was a disaster.
Then around comes this patch, with a one-time event that drops loot that has an actual impact on gameplay.
Need I say more?
Or some watered down version that still has at least 1 blast finisher (in Churning Earth).
If you need a reason why, then you’ve clearly not read the Elementalist forums lately.
Seeing as how the auto attacks are hardly worth it when they do hit, making them dodgable just by not standing still is quite harsh. An slight speed improvement a la Mesmer would be much appreciated.
The thing I dislike most about all of this is how bitter I’ve become about the game. Between the needless ascended gear stat increase, the removal of Evasive Arcana and the one-time event grind for a best-in-slot accesory, I’m actually considering asking for a refund as well. Something I never thought would happen.
Of course they don’t stack. That’d make them useful!
The worst bit of this is that ArenaNet apparently can’t even sum up the decency to make a half baked explanation for something that’s really quite a big problem.
No wait, that’s the second worst thing. The worst thing was when the mod infracted people who asked him/her if they’d reported the EA issue to the developer, in response to the same moderator stating that they report issues that are of great concern to the player community. Apparently, that was somehow ‘off-topic’.
Don’t hold your breath. It’s only slightly less hard to obtain.
If you do get it from the Forge, don’t bother getting a lottery ticket for the next decade or so, ‘cause you’ll have used up your luck for the upcoming time.
So I’m not the only one who’s experiencing this. On a (probably) related note, sometimes a very small ledge is enough for enemies to be considered ‘too high/low’ and be reset instantly. It happens especially at the end of the Cursed Shore jumping puzzle. The line of sight bug seems to occur there as well.
Projectiles with clear line of sight still get ‘obstructed’. Sometimes even when standing right next to the target. Would be nice if this is fixed, because most auto attack projectiles deal little enough damage as it is. Onbstructed bug makes them even more pointless.
Because they don’t care, duh. We couldn’t even get the moderator who told us they bring pressing issues to the attention of developers to say wheter they had forwarded that particular issue.
Lol? 8k crits and 8k bleeding from dodging seems fair?
It wouldn’t matter because when you dodge, you’re out of range of your opponent anyway.
The elementalist isn’t powerless all of a sudden. There are still plenty of powerful and useful builds out there, even for staff.
They’re less fun to play though.
It’s simply that I’m opposed to the concept of gathering gear to acces new stuff.
You can’t be serious that EA fans were among the best players in the game. Every scrub could take it who knew about its “unintended feature”.
Using EA didn’t take skill. Using it consistently during dungeon bosses or PvP fights however, did.
At the very least, you may presume that players who are smart enough to both know how to dodge AND know how combo fields work, will know about our other combo options.
EA as it was used was deemed to be too OP.
Agreed, totally. It needed to be nerfed, not in the least because the blast finisher didn’t have a cooldown.
But there were other ways to do so while still keeping the playstyle active. For example, the blast finishers could have been kept (but with cooldown) and the spell effects removed (instead of vice versa as it is now).
Or Churning Earth could have been made into a blast finisher, giving EA just 1 finisher with a 10 second cooldown. In fact, the fact that it’s not a finisher is a bug since the original skill is in fact a finisher.
Removing all finishers however was totally unneccesary.
The fun of this class for me is in demonstrating ways in which I can use the Ele’s abilities in combination with others and then in all of us reaping the benefits through teamwork. The fact is that the Staff Ele brings more combo field options to the table than any other class this game currently has today. Those can be used in any number of ways to turn your team into a powerhouse. That is what the Staff Ele is supposed to be doing, IMO.
We could do that very well with Evasive Arcana, and still perform our own combos.
You’d have had to have mastered Evasive Arcana play to truly appreciate why it was so much fun.
Think of it this way: staff elementalists used to be moving all over the place, dodging left and right and comboing (and missing combos) as much they could.
Now, our gameplay consists of standing in the back, placing a field every few seconds and hopefully see a heart appear in the distance.
Which sounds like it’d be more fun to do?
(edited by ThiBash.5634)
Yes, they’re worth making, but they’re less fun with Evasive Arcana gone.
Dagger/dagger isn’t all that effected by its removal.
It is. Evasive Arcana was a playing style, not a build. It’s not a matter of the power of the skill (yes, it needed a nerf) but about the fact that we can now do a lot less.
It’s like removing a weapon from the warrior. Except that ill never happen, they’ll only get more options.
Psst! We have a blast finisher in earth line that synergizes very well with everything we have. Its called Eruption. That is our bread and butter finisher along with Arcane Blast. They are what I have been using for a long time now and they work just fine. Staff is VERY viable in Wv3 and PvE without EA. It always has been. EA was an exploit and obviously, the trait was never intended to be used like that, thus Anet slammed it shut with the nerf hammer!!!
You may think we’re all morons, but in fact the Evasive Arcana fans are among the best players in the game. We know about Eruption. That’s why we comboed that with Lava Font, Arcane Wave and Lava Font for a triple might boost. EA wasn’t an exploit. It required more skill to use properly than just about anything else in this game, hence the risk vs. reward. It was a playstyle in itself, not the only staff build but certainly one of the most fun.
Even if it was a mistake, rather than using it to enrich their gameplay, ArenaNet removed it. It’s like how somebody invented the Snowboard, many people liked it and the the authorities ban it from the slope, instead of adding a park where people can stunt without it bothering other people.
It was a great skill, intended or not and they should have kept it in the game. It’s not about power, it’s about the fun that came with it.
Yes, they’re worth making, but they’re less fun with Evasive Arcana gone.
Ok. Reason I asked was because you mentioned it focused on crits…
Dodge rolling into water fields made the roll heal twice as good.
Evasive Arcana was the best dps trait that the elementalist had.
It was so much more than just a power boost. It had all kinds of fun possibilities with all kinds of combo fields.
The blast finishers shouldn’t ALL have been removed. And I for one, do care.
My opinion’s still that they should have removed the spells and kept the blast finisher instead of vice versa. You could up the damage on the spells tenfold and it’d still be useless, because you’ll always be out of range of your target when you dodge.
Since the Evasive Arcana build I’ve been pondering about making a new build. One of the things I’m considering is this glyph/critical based build. Basically, it combines summoning elementals with ‘conditions on auto-attacks’. The plan is to use much AoE (like Air 1) to spread a bunch of conditions, thus hindering my opponents and snaring them so my elementals will hit them more often.
Question is: could something like this work?

I assume you use the 30% chance to cause burning for your fire trait?
Paper napkin math suggests that 40 Power is roughly 3% more damage, wheras 40 Precision is roughly 3% more critical.
So yeah, you’ll need some +crit damage to make precision worth it from a dps standpoint. However, if you’re interested in burst for PvP then it’ll give you a chance to do a bit more in critical conditions. Combined with ‘on crit’ traits, it seems like a fair tradeoff.
Honestly I’m shocked by the amount of people complaining about an unintended blast finisher bug being removed.
Then you don’t really get the problem at all. Evasive Arcana with blast finishers created a playstyle all by itself. It was incredibly challenging to pull of in tougher fights, but also very fun to play that way. It was extremely fast paced, involving quick decision making and precision in executing your moves and skill uses.
And that’s gone now. You can’t fault people for feeling that a stationary, long range fireball spamming staff build feels a bit bland comparitively. It may not affect the power level of the elementalist, but it did nerf one very fun build.
Nicky Silverstar.
Of course, her real name is Canthan but since her family now lives in Kryta, she choose to use a translation of her actual name.
This bug still hasn’t been fixed. When rangers complain, things get changed back instantly. When elementalists complain, we get ignored.
STOP IGNORING US!
Dunno what the problem is with warriors. Why do some people see them as so powerful? As a dd ele if I come out of a 1 v 1 against a warrior with less than three quarters health left i am disappointed. They are the easiest class to fight imo. Laughably predictable, easily counterable attacks. I for one can understand why they havnt been nerfed.
It helps of course that every newbie plays a warrior, but only the most skilled players can stick with the elementalist for any length of time.
A quick an acceptable fix would be to remove the spells and replace them with just blast finishers.
That way, we’d keep the playstyle and still have nerfed the overpowerdness of it.
No, not just might stacks. It was combined with different kinds of fields to creat various types of support effects. Might was just a small part of it.
Maybe some form of Arcane finishers build. That way at least you’ll have some form of flexability.
Just so you know, I’ve made a post about the changes on the Warrior forums. I figured that way, It’s sure to be read by the people who balance this game.
Posts will all be locked and deleted. I have tried. We are not allowed to call out to devs for responses.
Yeah, I know. It was mostly done as an attempt at humor, and would have been better off to be deleted rather than moved. It shouldn’t even have been merged with this thread at all.
Thanks for your understanding.
I’m trying to, honestly. :-) There’s just one thing I don’t really understand and that’s why I wasn’t allowed to ask wheter or not the previous moderator already brought this particular issue with Evasive Arcana to the attention of the developers. To me, it seemed like the logical next step in this thread, but apparently that sort of questions isn’t allowed?
I’m asking just to make sure for future reference. I don’t mean to question any rules or anything.
The only way to appeal infraction at the moment is by sending an e-mail. However, it’s rather user-unfriendly: you’ll need to find a way to link to your (often already deleted) post, and then there’s a waiting period of at least several days if your appeal gets treated at all.
And when your appeal is accepted, it can happen that your reïnstated post gets infracted again (had it happen to me once).
So my suggestion is to add an appeal button or form to the forummail you get from a moderator so you can appeal instantly and have the forum provide the basic details such as post number and username. That at least would help a bit.
