New areas! Open up these borders! I’ve done the 100% map completion and have another 4 characters sitting on about 80-90%. I need to see something new.

I don’t mind the lull in content, but I do mind them not telling us what to expect next, and when. Usually, when there is no communication, it means they have dropped the ball in some way, and that is worrisome.

Yeah I agree with you. Something feels wrong. No news, no hints, no content….. nothing.

When a game’s max level PvE content is the LS and the don’t release anything it kind of makes the game really boring.

Lets cross our fingers!

people really need to stop thinking that an expansion is the way to get good content.

The only reason people are thinking like that is the way Anet has previously delivered content. I think they have learned. People are begging for more zones, new things, races, classes, better story…

all those things can be released using the living story system, the only difference is you get the content drip fed to you instead of one big burst of content.

They have a good system, just not the best content….yet. I’m probably one of the biggest complainers on this forum yet I’m still keen to see what they have learned and I’m confident the next LS will be a lot better.

This has been designed for large organised groups that want to tackle a challenging opponent, as is the wurm.

Its not designed for a ‘bunch of friends’

Anet have included easier content that is easier to complete, like dungeons and other bosses. I think the game would be so boring if everything was easy and there was no challenging content.

also I would like to add that you can still see the content but just not complete it. So its not like they deny access.

Whole new map in WvW.
Rework of borderlands.
New skills.
Several new PvP-maps.
New dungeon(s).
New reward systems.
New world-bosses.
Etc.

Should I go on? All these things are permanent changes. Then add the massive amount of temporary things added and we have a rather large amount of new stuff.

I think you should go on because that is a weak list if you are trying to say after 2 years that is enough.

We should complain if we don’t like it. If it was just few then fine but there are/were a lot of complaints about the first living story.

If we remained slient Anet will of thought everything is fine and continued to deliver a weak story. It’s clear they are improving, they just need a good story and a better delivery method.

Thankfully we have some vocal people that not only complain but say exactly why, and some even go further to offer solutions and advice.

Stagnant, Living Story needed.

Thobek.1730

I think the lack of a new living story is because of the megaservers. anet are focusing on how it works out before adding anything new. It’s mostly ok imo, but they need to do something about guild missions cos atm megaservers are messing those up something awful.

A bit off topic but yeah after the introduction of megaservers guild missions are annoying. “Need a taxi” – Perhaps a “join on Guild leader” button might be a quick fix, since trying to get 100+ people together in the same overflow takes more time that is necessary.

On topic – Yes they do need to hint at something, silence is not golden when you have a player base standing around waiting. There is a lot of PvP stuff going on but not everyone is into that.

good find but lets not get too excited yet. It could be months before we see anything new.

what’s worrying is they have planned this story out since Scarlets creation when the writers were NOT doing a very good job of creating an engaging story.

I hope they are removing all the boring stuff like trade agreements and employment contract disputes which for some reason they thought was good entertaining content.

Anet are playing a dangerous game not releasing new content for so long with no message even saying when we will expect it.

They really should introduce some small hints within the game just to gain peoples interest.

Once the Anet writers get back from creative writing classes for beginners we might start to see some news from them.

Season 2?

in Living World

Thobek.1730

I think they should make some kind of announcement, usually Anet are good communicating with their player base – except for the LS both in the game and out of it.

If they are taking time to make sure the LS is better than season 1 that’s good but lets be honest here, they won’t need to try too hard for it to be better considering how poorly written the first story was. Hopefully they are touching up there knowledge on how to create good characters as well. Perhaps Anet has sent their writing team to a night class in creative writing.

tbh just get good writers. Time for some fresh blood.

Yeah, that would have a point. IF it was without warning.
They did however REPEATEDLY state that there would be breaks before the Feature Patch and after the Feature Patch.

I must of missed that email or ingame message they sent me about it. Where else did they ‘REPEATEDLY’ state this? Some random post in the forums perhaps? Could it been a random tweet?

Actually I had a look around and couldn’t find a thing about this announced break after the feature patch. There is only speculation about the start of the next living story and some people are saying 2-3 months. That’s a long time in GW2, not so long in other MMO’s but they normally have raids to do etc.

So do not expect LS2 before July/August.

2-3 months?! that would not be a good strategy. You don’t get people used to a 2 week content cycle then without warning delay everything for 2-3 months.

Its not like we have progression content to do, Unless you’re into pvp. But that’s all about re-doing old content.

I’m tired of waiting as well. My confidence in the Anet writing team has hit an all time low. Its all low fantasy stuff in a high fantasy setting which will always make a lackluster story in a game. I laugh when they compare their story to game of thrones, as if!

They have NEVER compared their story to Game of Thrones.

What they did was that they wanted people to DISCUSS and SPECULATE about what would happen next, as in Game of Thrones.

Nothing more, nothing less.

“It’ll be really fun in three months when the ending happens for those people to be able to stand up and say, ‘I got it right! I nailed Game of Thrones!’”

It’s like me creating a simple space invader game then saying “It’s be great in 3 months when people stand up and say – ‘I completed Star Wars’”

I’m comparing my simple game to a legendary movie.

Also what you would hypothetically say doesn’t make any sense unless that game was named “Star Wars”.

No it doesn’t. Why should the name make any difference? Its the fact that I am comparing my old arcade space invader game to Star Wars. Just how they compared GW2 to the Game of Thrones. The name of the game is not important, saying its up to the science fiction standards of Star Wars is the issue, or in the articles case, saying that “I nailed Games of Thrones” is the same as “I nailed GW2”.

That’s how comparisons work, its not an issue about the names being the same.

I think its this article people are talking about. Especially this quote:

Well it’s relatively easy to nail Game of Thrones. Pick any decent character, and go “they die”. Wait until it happens (it will).

It was also relatively easy to nail the Living Story. “Scarlet dies at the end.”

No Living Story = Not playing the game

just like any other game, when I run out of PvE content to do I unsub until the next patch/expansion. I might play a bit of WvW once a week but not login everyday like before. I already have 7 lvl 80’s, played every race, every class minus thief so another alt isn’t worth it, map completion so I’ve seen everything (maybe minus a few dynamic events).

I guess the last thing to do would be sPvP but there is something about it I don’t really enjoy. I’ve given it a good go over the year playing 100’s of games trying to enjoy it but I think I’m too conditioned to WoW Arena (with rankings, and pvp rewards (gear) and fun BG’s like Arathi Basin where they had interesting achievements and rewards.

hopefully the second chapter will come out soon before I lose interest in the game completely.

I have never played an MMO where the players have been so vocal in their dislike of the story or the characters.

I think they really need to take a fresh approach to the next chapter (possibly some new writers). If they pace it like before and continue to have this terrible cast of characters then I doubt we’ll ever see a payoff.

Quite honestly, everything is a cliche at this point.

I haven’t seen a truly original story in years.

Even GW1 was hardly original.

GW1 wasn’t any better about handling its cliches and tropes. GW2 just stopped pretending to hide it, I guess.

DE 2.0 is a joke. Its very hard to like any of them. They all start out ok then as the story unfolds it becomes harder and harder to like any of them.

Now I’m just waiting to see how they screw up Taimi’s character, because if she is so smart then she knows Braham can’t understand what she is talking about, yet she constantly goes on and on about technical things. That is annoying, the same way someone lords it over another by trying to show intellectual superiority.

I second that.
And beside that you have to read interviews where A-Net guys talk about how the LS
is like Game of Thrones and how much everyone is tied to the story and super exited how it ends.

I didn’t know if serious or A-Net lives completely in delusion…..

I think their writers got a bit of a shock with all the backlash they received, probably knocked them off their high horse. If they didn’t then they are arrogant and deluded. I would hate to think they are blaming such things as the way the designers delivered their story. I don’t care if you serve up feces on a golden plate its still a pile of crap.

I’m actually annoyed about how bad it was considering the potential it had. I also feel sorry for the art team who have done so well only to let some second rate bunch of writers ruin it.

LS should take a page from Tolken and George Lucas…

Please don’t compare George Lucas to Tolken. Tolken doesn’t deserve that abuse.

. . . George Lucas is not as much of a hack as people want to hang on him. He just needs someone to collaborate with who is willing to get him to tone down and hone his vision of a story.

George Lucas is enough of a hack that he needs a bunch of people who need to tell him when his ideas are bad and make up better ideas than him. The Star Wars prequels are as bad as they are because nobody questioned Lucas.

Spot on! I tend to believe lucas got lucky with star wars because when he has total creative control it turns into a steaming pile of crappola!

Give me an example of a straight couple in this game that flirts all the time? It might be a bit tough considering there is only ONE male lead Braham and he was rejected by Ottilia (guys don’t get much love in this game), but even when you look at the secondary support cast pick one straight couple that flirts like you said. Just one… and it doesn’t have to be all the time either. Just one straight couple with just one example of them flirting.

Logan is madly in love with Queen Jennah, making that a hetero love story (albeit somewhat one-sided). And there’s a good number of hetero couples you encounter during the storylines and out in the world, for example the Asuran couple in one of the starter storylines (1-20), and the Asuran couple later on in the personal story when you chose that your biggest regret is to let a friend die.

There’s also lots of male lore characters in the game. Rytlock, Logan, Braham, Evon Gnashblade, Trahearne, Tybalt, Forgal, Lord Faren … a game isn’t sexist just because there’s not a 100% accurate totally equal 50:50 representation of each gender. A game is sexist when there are little to none strong or important characters of a certain gender, or when they’re all portrayed in the same (clichéd) manner, etc. None of that is true for GW2.

Logan and Queen Jennah? That’s not flirting. He’s basically under a spell cast on him by Jennah, a magical bond.

A good number of couples? some random Asuran’s you bump into on the low level personal story. Hardly lead characters at all. There are some married farmers in queensdale as well. big deal. You’re clutching at straws..

Rytlock, Logan, Braham, Evon Gnashblade, Trahearne, Tybalt, Forgal, Lord Faren? – none of them are in a relationship. Four of them hardly even feature anymore, Two of them are dead. Good list.

When it was Caithe and Faolain I thought wow this is not the usual stuff you see in a computer game, well done Anet for breaking down the norm. Then Kas and Marjory turned up and that’s when it started getting stupid. It’s not only that I don’t like those two characters, but it doesn’t help when they constantly flirt with each other while in serious situations.

That’s a fine point, but wasn’t the one I was addressing. I was addressing how fictional straight couples are shown doing the same stuff all the time, flirting in serious situations, getting stupid, being unrealistic. And yet, whenever it’s a straight romance in question, their sexuality is never brought up. Usually nobody bats an eyelid at the

Hrmm, I wonder why nobody ever says that kind of stuff when a game features a heavily pro-Male ratio, or “obvious hetero relationships”. You know… like the majority of other games.

As for your question you really need to sit back and think about this one for yourself. Ask yourself who normally plays fantasy MMO type games? who plays PC games in general? what is the percentage of gay/lesbian people (i.e. its about 3.7% in the U.S) Then ask yourself that question again and see if you can work it out for yourself. 2. Please less Angel McCoy writing.

I have to agree.

I really don’t like how the characters have been developed. The obvious lesbian relationships being pushed in our faces again and again at the expense of the story. The clear imbalance of males vs females, and how they are represented. It became very clear to me when watching the last scene at the dead end bar and how there were 4 females and one male sitting wounded in the corner in which they just poked fun at. It was so obvious that I didn’t really pay much attention to the story I was thinking “what the hell? I feel like I’ve just stepped into some girls club and they are just poking fun at Braham for the sounds he makes or how he’s too dumb to understand Taimi”
And then behold who walks in.. Marjory’s brother? No of course not, has to be another female character, her sister.

Getting a bit sick of it. We need another style of writing to balance this feminist stuff.

Only 3?? I think you (Bobby) should look at all of the issues since they are all relevant.

But if I had to choose the top 3 issues then they would be.

1,3 and 4.

1 probably hit me the hardest, the pacing of the story was horrible, no answers, promises of big reveals or “everything will be answered next chapter” which never was. I basically felt like a I was chasing the carrot but I never got it, not even at the end. That’s basically cruel, to be lend along all this time and even at the end – “you want to know why?” “NO! kill her” – kitten , you couldn’t of done a worse job of this if you tried.

3. I felt like a henchman employed by a team of girls whose job was just to slaughter the enemy.

4. It was all scarlet, she didn’t have any notable characters to support her, Aetherblade captains? you never talked to them at all, they barely featured. And since Scarlet was such a weak character she wasn’t able to carry the story on her own.

8 (support cast). I can’t stand the snobbish Kasmeer and the sassy Marjory. Those characters bug the hell out of me. So sick of having to be around these two lovers. I wish it was like the personal story where you could choose who to hang out with because I would NEVER pick those two. When Marjory dropped in that cheap dig at Braham “so you’re the ones who let Scarlet slip through your grasp?” immediately I thought what a cow! – I can’t stand those two. Kasmeer meanwhile -" eww warriors are smelly" really? I’m actually helping and all she talks about is the smell. Go away and pick out curtain for your love nest then Kasmeer.

Who created those two characters?!

I get that Scarlet was the villain, but I felt horrible listening to Marjory and the others joke about her death.

Previous LS updates established that she’s been driven crazy by some external force that she encountered in the Eternal Alchemy and could no longer mentally fight it. We should pity her or mourn for those she’s killed, not make childish jokes about what it felt like to deliver the death blow.

Not to be rude here, but I’m genuinely curious – do dialogue ideas get checked before they are added? If so, did no one suggest that joking about killing a mentally unstable character might be in poor taste?

exactly, something drove her crazy by invading her nightmares and she fought to control it. Eventually it consumed her. Instead of trying to help her fight back we drive a spear through her broken body then laugh about it over drinks. Yip – we’re not so nice.

Well, we never really got a chance to help her in the first place now did we? She went down fighting, we could never get near her. Besides, if what came over her was similar to the other dragons’ corruption, there was no way back for her anyway. In a way, we saved her from a life of being enslaved to Mordremoth.

You’re right, we never really did get a chance and by the time we reached the final so-called climatic scene it was a bit too late. But when you break it down like the OP did. She wasn’t in control, and if YOU were in the same situation and something drove YOU insane and then a bunch of stupid adventurers aka Marjory and her ruthless band of cutthroats gun you down. I’m sure you would think “Hey that’s not fair, I wasn’t in complete control of my actions – something made me like this”

anyway the whole Living Story was a disaster. It has so many holes in it. I really just want it to be forgotten.

I second this… by the end I was just getting annoyed, even angered by the lack of answers.

I liked Johan’s introduction of scarlet in the molten facility, because all we got was some weak comment from a dredge prisoner which was never proven to be scarlet, just another question passed over with no definitive answer. Was it her? one of her helpers? who knows.

The delivery of this story reminds me of those annoying people that try to tell a story but keep going off on tangents and never explain fully how we got to this ending. “Yeah but hold on for a second, how did she manage to do that?” – “That’s not important, anyway this huge floating drill appeared…”

Every time we “win”, some major section of landscape gets (or stays) wrecked. A few more of these “victories” and there won’t be any world left on which to fight.

When do we win a victory which looks like an actual victory?

When you fight in your backyard nice things are going to be broken. The only way to avoid this is to take the fight to the enemy.

I’m hoping this next arc we get to travel west to explore new areas.

Where is the male homosexual relationship with a close up cutscene of them kissing?

We need a gay writer on the team to champion the cause of male homosexuality.

Sorry excuse for content.

1500hours isnt particulary much for an MMO, if it would be a single player game it would be a lot, but for an MMO its not that good.
There used to be a time where you wouldnt get bored so fast of MMOs, but nowadays MMOs are too casual to offer longtime enjoyment for people who play more than 5 hours a week.

1500hrs is a huge amount of time. If you think that isn’t much then I suspect you spend a lot of time in front of your computer. Even if you logged in for a few hours every night for a year that would still only be half of 1500hrs.

It was never proven that Evon shut down the Asuran Gate. How does he have access to its controls anyhow?

Sure I watched the scene where he walks through it and it closes down behind him, but who knows why or how it closed. People (haters) are just guessing that it was him.

I could make a guess to say Kiel did it to make him look bad… I have no proof either.

Maybe after he got through he told the gate operator to close the thing as quickly as possible? Who knows… Maybe it’s something that’ll be explored in more detail in a next update, when people will start asking questions about the things that happened and who’s to be held responsible.

But Kiel was a lot more useful in the battle against Scarlet than Evon was, simply due to the fact that Evon was too busy being a sad kitty in the Vigil keep to actually help out.

Maybe, could be, might be… people are just pointing the finger without actually knowing what happened.

Kiel was more useful getting people to safety, she had an airship and is part of the ships council. Evon is a businessman. OR you could say Evon was more useful by helping refit hobo-tron and arming the soldiers with his supplies had a bigger impact. Again nobody really knows.

What I do know for sure is Kiel forced Evon to hand over his goods or face execution by firing squad. That’s way too excessive, if he refuses simply take what you need. No need to kill the guy. She’s a power crazed bully.

How good is the Living story?

I really like the Living part, every couple of weeks new content arrives. The game feels fresh and alive. I don’t mind that some of the content released is temporary, they have the fractals system to bring back key moments like the molten facility.

The Story part is complete and utter rubbish. I’m not sure who their target audience is but its certainly not me. Scarlet was so poorly delivered and developed, no real answers about her motive or how she managed to accomplish all these unbelievable alliances or found the resources to create these enormous war machines, even now after she’s dead and the first major arc has finished there is still only speculation as to what her true motives were.

tbh the main story felt like it was the relationship between Marjory and Kasmeer and Scarlet was just a way to bring them together.

Season 1 | Lack of Major Male Characters!

Why can’t they just add in another Male character to the group

Because all the necessary roles are already accounted for. Also, you didn’t answer the question. Would you be content if Rox or Taimi were male?

All the necessary roles? What a terribly boring and stale way to think about it. Its like the comic book stereotypes. “We can’t have another strong yet unintelligent person – that role is taken.” How about the dynamic of having two thinkers in the group that actually argue with each other… nah can’t have that, you only need one.

If they truly think like that then these writers are worse than I thought. But I doubt that is their line of thinking because we’ve already had two lesbian relationships and a party of lead characters predominately made up of females. You can tell they are trying to change the typical make up of a team of characters in a computer game.

Its hard to say whether I would be content if Rox or Taimi were male since I quite like those two characters, and have gotten used to them. But if I had to choose one it would be Rox. I could see Rox and Braham questing together like brothers, they argue now and again but ultimately as they develop together so builds the strength of their relationship. They could even both vie for the attention of the same female which could be a vehicle for some humor – probably not if the new version of Rox was a Char

It was also stated later on this epilogue would take place in the Death End bar (forgot where) What did you expect?

I expected a decent wrap up to a year long story. Perhaps some answers to the thousands of loose ends…

I guess since they dragged us along blindly through a years worth of content, I was foolish to think they were capable of wrapping things up.

this game gets my vote for the best artwork, design and sound in an MMO, while also getting my vote for the worst writing.

OK I seriously don't buy this

Who wrote this plot? I had seen people act more logically in Disney films.

That would be Angel McCoy.

Time for fresh ideas and a new approach.

What ever happened to Jeff Grubb? surely he had nothing to do with this.
