I thought the purpose of this WvW map was like an Overflow for the main WvW. So people would join a random side and battle it out for 3 hours. Nice, clean and simple.
BUT I have played about 10 games and everytime its on the same side. Is this working as intended? Has anybody else joined different sides?
The problem with the bows are they look so heavy and clunky. I like the design but not that it was made from a solid block of metal.
No, NO and NOOOOOO.
seriously once you introduce a mount then people will start asking for them everywhere, then they will start asking for flying mounts. Having come from WoW mounts were ok for a while because they had no waypoints but what happened is you ended up just seeing the tops of trees and the world felt so small afterwards. It ruined it.
Maybe allow for more waypoints to be built.
when I went to the Inn to do the re-cap on the story and those two were talking about picking out curtains I was like “omg who writes this dribble!”
I like seeing relationships develop like Braham and Taimi, but the Kasmeer/Marjory is so forced it just feels wrong.
I don’t like their relationship, their conversations are awkward even it was a heterosexual relationship. It sounds all terribly cheesy.
I’m far from being a good PvP player, I get killed a lot yet still enjoy myself. People just need to not take their deaths seriously, laugh it off and get back out there.
Its just like The Dragon Ball Arena, Sanctum Sprint, Southsun Survival, Keg Brawl, Snowball Mayhem… all are pvp places outside of WvW and Spvp.
I think this is a great idea from Anet, it might open a few eyes to those that never considered pvp to be fun. If they still don’t like it a couple of weeks isn’t going to ruin the entire game for them.
couple of weeks huh? Yea great idea.. know what? Lets actually put you a couple of weeks into a game mode\place you dont like…as best somewhere where people can grief or zerk the living kitten outta you and you got as best zero experience in what you do, and after the couple of weeks comes the question. Still like it? No? Thought it was fun
. Come on its just a game and fun time. Dying is amazing.. specially if you fight organised people who know exactly what, where and when to do it to slowly twist your cheerfull smile to a distorted face of despair and self doubt till you simply quit the game cause you really just dont like this way to play or just the need to rebuild your entire char just to survive.
I know i am not a rare snowflake here when i say that i left a LOT of mmo games that pretty much allowed pvp at any given time, specially when not asked for it. Middle of a quest? Nope buddy.. you gonna get a nice little enema with my sword and i gonna wait here.. you will come back cause that quest is over there and you gotta go either this way.. or the other ways where the rest of us waits.
But you are overreacting like a special snowflake. Its only two weeks and you’re acting like this is going to emotionally scar you for life. Get a grip.
So you’re going to get killed out there, big deal! do you have some zero deaths record your trying to hold on to.?
If your new to WvW let me give you some advice. Stick with the commander and the zerg that will protect you from any ganks, and if you are out by yourself don’t engage an enemy – just run or waypoint before they catch up to you. Its a cowards way but it’ll keep you alive. Play like this and you’ll hardly die at all.
Leave the solo roamers to themselves. They love having 1v1 fights and will normally seek each other out.

I was talking to a bunch of guild members and we were discussing what we thought were wrong or just didn’t feel right about the GW2 dungeons compared to all the others MMO’s out there. Sure GW2 doesn’t have to follow what everyone else is doing but if something works then why change it.
The point is Boss fights. Most dungeons we have in the game have very poor boss fights. Take AC explore mode for example. Basically its kill a lot of lizards, then kill the mounds, there is one boss and he looks just like the rest of the lizards only larger. There is only one boss fight for each of these paths. Its not very interesting.
I’m trying to think of the best dungeon GW2 has to offer in terms of unique boss fights with unique models and there is isn’t one. One of the reasons its disappointing because the dungeons themselves look amazing but once you’re in there the content is a bit boring. I just feel like the developers were a bit lazy when creating them (excluding the map designers)
TL;DR – I personally would like to see more unique bosses in the dungeons with interesting fight mechanics and unique models compared to the trash mobs.
I’m glad you mention Tolkien with his evil overlord, who’s almost indefeatable, except for the fact that he wears his one ring of power over, instead of under his armor. And the giant, quasi-omniscient eye that this evil overlord later becomes, which has the capability to command giant orc-armies, yet for some reason leaves the only path to its destruction, that is the way up to Mount Doom, where the one ring was forged, completely ungarded.
unguarded? Firstly the only way in was either through a massive guarded gate or a huge fortress. They had to use Gollum to show them a hidden entrance also guarded by a giant spider which beyond that was another fortress. Even then the entire plains of mordor was filled with camps of Orcs. Unguarded? The entire region was basically filled with guards.
Also, it’s now a well known fact Captain Evon Gnashblade stole thousands of silk and other materials from the Black Lion Trading Post. It was long suspected he just flipped it to fund his campaign but now it’s clear he was giving it to Scarlet. Never trust a merchant or banker, especially a charr.
This is not a well known fact. Actually its the first time I’ve heard anyone mention it.
Source please…
I getting tired of all these:
“Just wait until the end”
“all will be revealed soon”
“it’ll all make sense in the final chapter”it’s like some cheesy who-done-it novel we have to wait until the final few pages when the detective pieces all the clues together. I thought this was a high fantasy story.
Guild Wars was never high fantasy to begin with. It is a much more down-to-earth world, with lots more tech then your usual random world filled with magical elves and whatever else.
And I thought that piecing together bits of story is exactly the interactive content the LS needed
just because there is tech doesn’t mean its not high fantasy. I count the Final fantasy series as ‘high fantasy’ and that has a lot of tech in it.
This game has magic, gods, floating castles, dragons – believe it or not Gw2 is high fantasy. Its the current storyline filled with social drama and political nonsense that is giving it this a low fantasy tone.

Indeed. Joffrey from GoT is a villain I hate. He’s a horrible person who does terrible things. He has his own reasons for them though that are explained through the story.
Scarlet is a horrible villain because she just does things. Anet’s story is all ‘popup’ exposition. Characters and plot devices are introduced as needed. There is no setup or introduction. There is no reason to care.
This is correct. The author of this thread fails to understand the difference between the two and therefore think Anet have been successful. They have not.
I want to see how capable Anet is of cleaning up this LS mess, and also if they have learnt from their mistakes and the next villain would actually be well written.
Jumping in here for a moment to clarify a few things because there are some misconceptions about that attempt in particular.
1) TTS did not kill the Wurm. A GM was able to examine the boss and get some info and they were off by 0.01%. Even if they had killed it, that is not the end of the encounter, there is still another phase.
2) We’re investigating why the Wurm did not burrow when the event failed.TTS did manage to sever the heads of all 3 Wurms later in the middle of the night and were the first to see the final phase.
Do you consider as intended :
-The fact that a guild is forced to artificially generate an overflow to try in good conditions this event ?
-The fact that it HAS to be done in guild, with a vocal, to be able to succeed ?However, gratz TTS. You’ll get it soon.
I think they do think this is how it was supposed to be intended. Its basically a hard fight for organised groups just like the Teq fight.
Anet really did need to create challenging content for larger guilds this is only one of two fights in the entire game designed for these large guilds, they have guild missions for causal guilds to do, world events like the Marionette for pugs, dungeons and fractals for smaller groups of friends.
You can still see the Wurm fight, and participate in it. The content isn’t blocked off for you, the issue is you won’t be able to finish it without some organisation. And if you really feel like you should be able to complete it then join a guild that does fight it. Good thing about GW2 is you can join 5 guilds.
Sometimes I think people just want to solo everything.
I had a super epic encounter last night where everyone in my champion ring died except for me almost immediately (we were fighting the shrieker). Then, I went on to solo the boss, killing it with 20 seconds to spare, and managed to finish off the power regulator with less than a half-second remaining on the clock. All of this was happening to the cheers in /say chat from the viewers, stunned that a Necromancer of all things soloed the boss and ultimately broke the chain. We went on to win the whole thing because of that success (we had no failures allowed left before bar filled), and it made me swell with pride to think that not only had I achieved something truly great and not only had I benefited about 100 other people, but that a group of them watched it in disbelief and cheered me on. It was nerve-wracking and absolutely unforgettably amazing.
It’s moments like these that I remember forever, and for that, I thank ANet for making such an amazing and awesome fight where I could show off my personal skill and make a difference for everyone.
I really like this story. Nicely done!
A 4yr old child progeny. She’s one of the few characters I actually like in this game… I’ll add her to the list.
Evon Gnashblade, Canach, Taimi, Hobo Tron, Rox…
Wurm and Teq are for the hardcore. You still can go and check out the fights but actually completing them is not for causals.
Totally fine with this as long as they still bring out content for casual players.
I really like this new character they have introduced. A 4yr old child progeny.
How she plays with Braham mind during the Lion’s Arch cutscene was well done. She obviously thinks herself superior in intellect to others and playfully acts like a child to toy with them. I get the feeling she could hold a conversation with an adult quite easily.
I also like how she admires Scarlet’s accomplishments as well as seeing the real threat.
The way she rides around on scruffy is adorable.
BUT please Anet start including her history, schooling and family connections in the game NOW and not patch it in 6 months later like you did for Scarlet. I’m talking about when you talked to teachers in Rata Sum and no one even mentioned Scarlet. I would like to go and talk to them and find out about Taimi.
Its a very small thing, but these kind of details help add polish to the game.
The dragon in the ceiling is red.
She had alot of colors to draw with, but she did it with red.
Now what dragon is associated with the color red?
Primordus
;D
Two reasons I think its Mordemoth over Primordus.
1. Once she left the Eternal Alchemy she was obvious changed from her meeting with the pale tree (who I still think was Mordemoth) she killed Omadd with red vines sprouting from her body. A new jungle type ability gained from Mordemoth.
2. Now a new threat are these Jungle Wurms in the bloodtide coast.
3. Drawing of a dragon in her study, which makes it clear that it was a dragon that changed her and not something else. Combine that with points 1 & 2 = Mordemoth.
4. The toxic spores created with the help of the nightmare court & Krait
The few things that go against this theory is:
1. Her love for the mechanical which is certainly NOT Mordemoth like.
2.The alliance with the dredge and Flame legion. A jungle dragon would certainly not like this combination.
3. Her focus on attacking humans and particularly Queen Jennah. Why not the other races? this doesn’t make sense. And now she is after Lions Arch, again an old human settlement.
so marj + kas could sit on the beach together? rolls eyes
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought this when I saw the two together… it seemed so cliche. Lets get all the main players and have them discuss Scarlet on the beach. Weird.
Also I listened to the conversation hoping that the story may develop but it just seemed like a lot of unimportant background info which I guess is ok. So Kasmeer had a dad in jail, knowing this didn’t really explain Kasmeers actions or her personality, the whole story seemed out of place.
Tami does interest me. She seems like a 4yr old genius with the ability to toy with peoples minds.
There is no way she is “good” now… whatever (*cough Mordemoth *cough) warped her mind and gave her visions of destruction and death has transformed her.
She is Evil now.
Just wanted to know if these are intended behavior or bugs/oversights:
This is will RNG-auto-fail the fight in some circumstances (a player is left to solo the champ – or forbid, no player is allocated to a pad). It would make more sense to allocate players in round-robin.
this happened to us. we finished 4 pads only then to notice no one was in the 5th. This can’t be “working as intended”
The build up has been there. It’s a shame most people haven’t been able to see it or understand it.
It’s all a matter of perspective and personal likes and dislikes.
The build up is there and most people don’t understand or see it? really? If that is true all that does is show bad game design and storytelling. What’s the point if nobody can see it. Even the writers agree the pacing wasn’t done correctly.
Secondly I agree that it is all about personal taste. But when the forums are full of threads about how much they dislike the LS and Scarlet then Anet would be complete idiots just to pass that off with “Oh well, that’s just their opinion”.
The number of people who log into the forums to post is miniscule compared to what log in and play the game. I know it’s hard to believe, but it’s true.
So first you talk about most people that can’t understand it or see it – you must be talking about forum users only then which according to you is a miniscule amount.
See your stupid sarcastic remark basically made you original point moot since you don’t know what most people are thinking at all.
Still think (hoping) its number 1: She’s a dragon minion. Mordemoth has invaded her dream state during the eternal alchemy visit and basically sent her on a wild rampage to awaken him or something like that.

I glad I’m not the only one who thought the comparison to GoT was ridiculous. Personally I find GoT a good show to watch but its not what I want from a computer game. I want high fantasy adventure not political powerplays.
I really hope the stop trying to be like GoT. I don’t want to see anymore elections, trade agreements or worker contract disputes.
This reminds me of how I felt when the latest Star wars movies came out and it turned into some stupid political crap and all the magic of adventure was lost.
Braham (Norn Male) – Replaces Eir
Rox (Charr Female) – Replaces Rytlock
Marjory Delaqua (Human Female) – Replaces Logan
Lady Kasmeer (Human Female) – Replaces Snaff
yeah what great bunch, 3 females and a dimwitted male. All we need now is another lesbian lover for Rox and this sad bunch can be Destiny’s Edge 2.0 aka the Powerpuff Girls
Come on! No way these guys can be the new group. You would have to lose one of the human females. Add in Canach (a male that actually has a brain), and some Asuran that doesn’t spew out cheesy one-liners.
If you read the forums on a regular basis you would already know that scarlet IS crazy, that has already been said by one of the writers months ago.
The question now is why is she crazy? how did she become crazy? who might be behind this craziness? when exactly did she become crazy? (logic points to her visions within the eternal alchemy)
I’m not expecting much anymore tbh but obviously Anet thought it was important enough to hold on to this information for this long.
I’m excited ’cause it very possibly could be Mordremoth.
I am hoping that it is Mordremoth or at least someone within the game not just a narrator. That certainly sounds like a villain I want in the game. Dark, evil and not crazy and childish.
off topic but that music at the beginning totally sounded like a remake of the Final fantasy VII combat music.
Judging by the way Anet writers pace this story I suspect we don’t find out anything new about scarlet until the 4th and final chapter when Anet reveals her master plan. Of course at that point nobody really cares and just wants to see the end of her.
It’ll probably be something lame like: Scarlet witnessed a possibly future of the world destroyed by dragons in the eternal alchemy and went mad, and then took steps to change the future. But you defeated her mad plans, congratulations – here’s a chest with a mini scarlet reward you’ll never use.
Or am I right to assume that the election result was obviously predetermined by Anet and the whole thing was just a ruse to make us believe that they cared about what the players wanted?
The forums were full of Evon supporters and it seemed like most the players ingame were. Yet Kiel won and not by much. It seemed like they tried their best to show it was a close race just for Kiel to tip it in the end. Didn’t believe it then, still don’t now – one huge ruse.
if the living story was an actual story instead of a bunch of achievements then we would not have this problem, i don’t play it because i don’t see a story in it, just a grind fest.
spot on. The story is very weak. Even the writers can’t keep track of the mess they have created. I now realise the extent of the writers planning when a key writer can’t even remember how Scarlet approached the Dredge and Flame Legion. This worries me.
Create a good story which doesn’t involve mindless achievement tasks and this 2 week delivery method would work. I don’t mind a few achievement tasks but it should not be the main focus of each chapter.
Bunker builds are a by-product of roaming zerker rogues. Basically if you want to survive 18k backstabs then you bunker down.
Just joined a Spvp match. no joke there whole team 40-60> rank our whole team >0-20.
.All it did was cause a bunch of people to spam complaints in map chat and then leave saying how much they hated PvP in GW2.
perhaps the system should take ranks into account. Might help people enjoy it more?
I got a tricolor key from completing it. Do I use that somewhere?
The key used to open a chest at the top of the tower, when the tower was destroyed the chest was tossed on to the northern bank of the lake. You should be able to see a chest icon on your map of a chest if you search around by the northern shoreline.
We finally get an MMO that starts to live up to the potential for the format and they do this with it? It still flummoxes me when ever I turn my mind to it…
I have faith in Anet (just not the writers) and I believe they have used everything they have learnt from this year to develop better content for 2014.
I know what I want from this game.
- I want a high fantasy storyline, where I do quests that allows my character to feel like he/she is an integral part to the story not a handyman fixing sign posts. I don’t mind these achievements where you collect X of these, or kill X of those… but I don’t it to be all there is in each chapter.
- I want a combination of rewards to work towards and random boss drop which are items I actually want, not just crafting materials and blue/green items. I really like how they do the teq fight – that chest that drops giving you a good unique item that can only be found from fighting him.
- I want to explore new areas. The exploration in this game is by far the best I’ve ever played in an MMO. I don’t like areas that are annoying to travel around like Orr used to be before the patch. Constant slows and pulls were painful. Areas should be designed where you actually feel like you are progressing as you travel. The only 2 area’s I know of that does this is Harathi Hinterlands,Straits of Devastation and Fireheart Rise, you notice changes in the map as you move towards the difficult areas.
- I want a combination of challenging content and simple mindless champ farming for when I want to switch my brain off and just relax.
- Finally I want a story that isn’t just a bunch of random monthly events. I want a story that develops, I want a villain that is actually decent and not some super genius student that suddenly appears out of no where and breaks the lore already setup from GW1. I want to engage with this villain and not just sit back and listen to someone laughing and spamming childish dribble at me.
There were complaints.
There are complaints about the SAB too, not relating to the groin-punching difficulty of World 2.
^ this. I really enjoyed SAB1 and hardly even looked at SAB2. A side game is not where I want the games most challenging content. It too more into a headache than fun for me.
I’m not complaining. it was a good break.
Yay, someone found something else to pointlessly complain about. What’s next, we’re going to point out that the golem prefixes (alpha and omega) are technically the wrong way round?
Its not complaining its just constructive feedback. Learn the difference.
You know who would have been a much better villain? Ellen Kiel.
Not through being a mastermind who secretly and conveniently ties the previous LS events together, but through being a well-intending person who’s already earned our sympathy, sorely out of their depth and trying to react to these various problems, and failing due to inexperience and bad judgement.
It would have been dug in all that much deeper because we voted for her.
That kind of nuance is hard to find in GW2, though.
Now that idea would be interesting. I don’t like Kiel to begin with but if I found out she was somehow pulling the strings and Scarlet was a mere pawn in all of this I would applaud Anet. Because that kind of story has depth. To work for her, trust her, only to be deceived and mislead. It would totally pull the rug from underneath us. Scarlet hasn’t exactly been a surprise in fact her being part of everything has turned into a bad joke.
OMG. Kinda shocked with the answers for living world.
I really hope that there will be more of permanent content, more interesting bosses (molten duo!!), more beautiful maps etc.
Lets see how this will turn out.
Thanks for the feedback guysAgreed, the last year wasn’t horrible but as I look at the game world now and how it was at launch (ignoring technical and mechanical changes) it does feel like the world hasn’t really evolved and grown all that much (i.e. not particularly living).
They shouldn’t change the vanilla world physically too much, what they should do is expand and give us new areas to explore allowing our character to venture further out into the world and make those regions permanent. They should change the characters in the game and develop the relationships, leaderships, etc which they are trying to do but doesn’t gel well with me since I dislike Kiel and her mannish bullyboy attitude or the odd relationship between Majory and Kasmeer.
2014 will be another Living Story year but don’t think just because 2013 was like it was 2014 will be the same. I think Anet realise that people want permanent content (areas) and they also want a living story that is actually interesting and you feel like you want to learn more about it. 2013 boiled down to just: “sigh, here comes MarySue Scarlet again with another silly lore breaking alliance and some stupid juvenile monologue about how she is so great.”
This year we finally see the end of her and it gives the writers a chance to show they actually know how to write a decent story with complex characters at a pace where people feel engaged and informed… currently its just a confusing mess and all we have is player speculations and no solid info.
(edited by Thobek.1730)
I don’t know why GW2 is trying to use new lore, when they have lore from GW1.
Because writers/creatives like to put their stamp of creativity on the game. Its an arrogant way of thinking to discard lore from GW1.
I can’t wait to disembowel Scarlet
I can’t wait either… and I want that part to be re-playable, over and over and over again.
please Anet make your next villain(s) a good one. Go google a beginners class to writing if it helps.
Are ranks that important its worth worrying about? How many take notice of the enemies rank when engaging in a battle?
Your right it is a small thing but it comes down to game polish. Its those little attention to details that turn a good game into a great game.
I only really noticed it when I fought someone and just noticed the bronze invader title and thought “Wait. Does that mean he is better (more experienced) than me or not?” it wasn’t clear until I wiki’d it.
I’m not going to lose any sleep over this but I do like this game and if I think something could be done better I’ll point it out. I would quite like to see this game succeed for years.
Not sure why they sorted ranks by color than actual ranks. Bronze silver gold recruit then move to bronze silver gold invader etc, seeing any legends will then be rare but at least I wont feel like I’m moving backwards from legend to bronze recruit.
this guy gets it.
I believe this is the way they should of done it – recruit, bronze recruit etc before moving to the next rank…
I like looking at it like the military ranks (which I am not in btw) It doesn’t go private > corporal > Sergeant > major > private first class > sergeant first class…
but with this game it does… After being a Legend I go back to being a recruit. Even worse I go back to being a bronze recruit which somehow sounds worse than being only a recruit.
Anet if you are reading this I think you should look into it.
doesnt make a difference tbh its just personal preference, youre just changing the tier decider and saying it makes more sense, on one hand you have the colour to describe their tier and on the otherhand you want the title to describe the tier, either way youre gonna be looking at tiers of your enemies and tbh the colours eventually at higher ranks will be easier then general and colonel.
It still doesn’t make sense, a colonel is commonly known to have a higher rank than a recruit. But with this system it does not, a bronze recruit outranks a colonel.
You can twist it anyway you want – a recruit should not outrank a colonel no matter what colour you put in front of it.
It feels like you are ranking up then returning to the start again. Imagine if they did this with PvP ranks. first its the rabbit then eventually you get to dragon then imagine the next one after that is bronze rabbit. Its just stupid.
I myself don’t understand why the first ranks are invader, assaulter, and then recruit. So the server ‘recruits’ you after you’ve done a bit of invading and assaulting?
Yes that is another problem, they haven’t got it right at all.
The thing that is stupid about it is if I come across a Bronze Recruit he will be significantly more experienced than someone with the Veteran rank.
the naming convention is completely wrong.
And if they want to keep it this way then they should do something to emphasis the colour i.e (bronze, silver, gold, etc) Two ways would be a frame around the target showing the colour, or a badge similar to the 100% map completion.
I still think they should think up something better.
