These kind of comments do my head in.
People asked for more dungeons and group events during the personal story so they could have fun with their friends
Then people complained about dungeons because they didn’t want to do anything which meant they had to group with other players.
Then they wanted to feel part of a large community with open world events
Now people don’t want large events and would rather do it by themselves again.
ugh, I’m starting to feel Anets pain in trying to keep everyone happy.
I have no idea what the OP is used to but gw2 has a huge amount of skins that cover all sorts of tastes. I even joined a group today with Ronald MacDonald look-a-like, he even gave me a cheeseburger. brilliant.
They are some incredibly well designed armour sets and weapons in gw2. Ranging from the practical to the outrageous.
Hihi, there is an upcoming sandbox MMO where you can sail on boats, where you can sail across the ocean and battle against other ships and get eaten by a kraken.
Archeeee i don’t remember the name of that upcoming game, i think it has something to do with my Age.
I’ve been messaged about this age arch thingy after starting this thread. It certainly looks interesting, I wonder if they have a high fantasy story.
I wouldn’t say I’m huge fan of sailing I just like the game world to be rich of life. The Anet design team do a kitten good job already (easily the best at of any MMO I’ve played), but I see no reason to rest on what they have, some of the best things are just simple additions.
Anet dont do boats. Claw Island is the only real moment you see a true dynamic boat in GW2 and unless they fixed it recently, it still look hilarious sitting many meters too low in the water (end mission cinematic, not the static boneship)
well you get to see one during the hydra queen fight, so they already have it in game. I just think it would be a nice touch to have these boats moving, even better you board it, and the boat sails off a little bit, loading screen, then sails in the lions arch harbor.
Even if no one even uses it, it still would make lions arch look more active.
I like the idea of more pets and also rare pets.
I would like to see rare pets skins that aare obtainable, these pets would have long spawn timers and multiple spawn locations. perhaps like a branded rockdog, white tiger, etc… a pet that makes you stand out. It wouldn’t be stronger than other pets just harder to obtain/track down.
Perhaps they could spend some time on rare pets and have tracking quests or the ability to find clues like footprints etc to help you find them.
Its nothing major just a suggestion that would be a nice addition to the game considering the work is already in there. When I went to fight the karka queen I spend a few minutes in lions arch trying to find the boat that leaves to southsun. Of course I discovered its now a waypoint (thanks google).
I also just completed the hydra queen, Taidha Covington. While on the hill I watched as the ship sailed in and thought that would be a nice way to travel to and from southsun for new/current/rp players. Obviously I’m not thinking the entire way but just to the entrance of the harbor.
again the waypoints are still there for people that can’t be bothered with waiting but I think this simple addition would add more immersion.
As I said, its not a major thing, just something that would be a nice addition. It would also make lions arch feel more alive seeing boats come sailing in and out.
he one of the events in newest dry top area. he appears and you supposed to kill him but ive never seen a group big enough attack him to kill him yet
meanwhile, i have yet to see him survive :|
yeah, same… no matter when I’m online that giant goes down. Normally you get a lot of maps calls saying that he’s up and a call for people to come and help.
They’ve forgotten since Tybalt & Forgal how to make cool, fun characters.
I really liked Forgal as a character, not only did he have an interesting personality you actually developed a relationship with that guy. At first he doesn’t think much of you and over time he develops respect and trust in you as you prove yourself in each chapter. Soon the relationship is like too equals battling it out against the odds. I had/have more of a connection with forgal than I have with the combined munch bunch I’m forced to group with now.
The Anet writers have lost their touch in a big way. It probably why I suspect Jeff Grubb left Anet long before these latest characters were developed.
I knew that Jeff was originally part of the team which was the general Zhaitan lore and personal story. But I haven’t heard a peep out of him with anything involving the living story. I’d be surprised if he ties himself with that mess.
current state ?
sucks
guardians’s best is that are all good looking
are you kidding me. all guardians know for a fact we are the best looking in the game. but what I want is a good build. not the sexy build… that’s default for us. I mean seriously what gutter scum do you think we are … rogues?
Good thing they allow us to climb this vines. I let my hero /dance on this special vine and then w8-ed for this emo scene to end. U laughed at Scarlet death. Well. I danced on your dead sister.
Anet doesn’t understand how lame Belinda’s death meant. When you get guys dancing own her corpse laughing you have done a bad job.
Do the writers even know what they are doing? back to community college/night school with you hacks. Even dragon ball ‘Z’ kills off planets and that is designed for 7 yr olds. Grow up writers, you’re like fossils that think that fraggle rock was edgy.
win 1v1’s 95% of the time, and I win often in 2v1 or even 3v1 situations. I’m a good theory crafter and a good player too
You sound like the right person to talk to… what’s your magical build.
Drooburt and I don’t even know who he is. Shows how much impact Belinda’s death meant.
I find braham being the only male in the group being portrayed as a thick headed dunce and often the target of the jokes – offensive.
I understand what Anet are trying to do, try and cover all the political correct bases. Do we have lesbians? check, what about disabled? check… thick headed jock? braham covers that… next we’re going to see them attempt to covers all the races of the world like some horrible hybrid benetton advert.
M*A*S*H was a great show, a comedy set in a war. Sometimes one has to hold onto a sense of humor to keep going and remain sane in the face of huge adversity.
For Taimi I don’t see her being comic so much as very narrowly focused, obsessed even, about Scarlet and her works. Yes there’s some humor ( I love how she says “I know” in a soft voice when replying to Brahm at one point, and “A cave” to Kas) but I wouldn’t call her a comedienne. She’s a very excitable, arrogant and enthused Asura who was willing to enter the machine that made Scarlet insane, for science!
People have different coping mechanisms and I think we’re seeing a bit of that with how the others react after the PC sees the Eternal Alchemy. I took that to be nervous joking at what might have been a much worse situation, humor borne of the giddy relief that “the boss” didn’t die or go (visibly) insane as a result and strangle every last one of them.
are you being serious? MASH was at its core a comedy show. They had serious parts included but mainly it was lighthearted and humorous. Sometimes they darken the tone for one of those rare serious themes. But it wasn’t based on the fact actual doctors and soldiers during the Vietnam war used comedy to get through the war. In fact the show received backlash for using comedy to portray what was a serious period.
What the Anet writers lack is a sense of tension. Because jokes are being cracked at inappropriate times you never feel a shift in emotions. Unfortunately when they do try it’s awkward and cringe worthy e.g any conversation between Jory and Kasmeer.
(edited by Thobek.1730)
Its far to light for me in the wrong places. It always feels like – “look there are the bad guys, whippee! lets go for guys! me first! who gets the first inquest buys the first drink back at the bar!! Oh Taimi you’re so cute! come on Kasmeer give her wee break, you just said wee because I’m small cue group laugh”
It feels like the writers are targeting the teenage audience. Some where in-between my little pony and twilight.
Boss seems appropriate.
not to me it didn’t, at no stage during any of the living story did I feel like I was the ‘Boss’ of the group. It felt like they were calling the shots and I was tagging along for the ride.
I went with braham and we came across some of the guards that had been choked to death by the vines. They were just sitting there silently wrapped up in vines, their skin turned blue from asphyxiation. It felt creepy but it also felt great that Anet have decided to darken the mood. This kind of dark gritty scenes had been missing in the game… its a step in the right direction imo.
I assumed that each orb represented a dragon, but when my character flat out said “I saw a dragon,” I was like… huh????
Watched it on youtube again and still don’t see it… maybe I’m just blind?
you’re not blind, you had exactly the same reaction I had. At first I thought “kitten how did I miss seeing the dragon!” but then I watched it on youtube about 4 more times and realised there was no dragon, just an orb representing a dragon.
Of course most people understand that’s what the orbs mean, I do as well. But seeing a orb representing a dragon is not seeing a dragon. My character lied to the others. “I saw the dragon!!” no you didn’t you saw an orb representing a dragon.
I didn’t like the fact you’re character says “I saw everything, the dragons… etc” I don’t remember seeing any dragons. I guess those orbs maybe represented dragons but if that’s the case my character is jumping to conclusions.
Taimi – What did you see?
You – Dragons.. (ah no you didn’t you saw 6 globes rotating around a world you suspect is Tyria)Its a very nice scene but I don’t buy my characters description of it.
I think your character arrives to that conclusion when one of the orbs ceases the center, looks at you, charges, and then you hear that low rumbling growl. With that it can be assumed the other orbs represented entities themselves – the other dragons. While it’s a wide guess on our characters part, it still is sound. We’re meant to be very intuitive – not intuitive enough to know Mordremoth’s name at the top of our head but… we’re not bricks.
“Looks at you” – you saw an eye somewhere? I think you need to watch it again. Its up on youtube.
“charge” – or it gets pulled into the center.
“growl” – sure I guess you could say that might of been a growl or the sound of power being discharged, who knows.
You’re jumping to conclusions as well. When you just assume things without the facts that’s when mistakes are made. I just don’t like how my character came back and reported a bunch of stuff she just didn’t know for certain. I’d be much happier if she told them exactly what she saw and then let everyone else make the assumptions.
There is too much focus on these two and their relationship. It needs to be toned down just a bit (actually a lot). Its getting to the point that every time they are together I have to hear about their love for each other. And sure enough in the Belinda scene they just ramble on, the dialogue is so bad.
I didn’t like the fact you’re character says “I saw everything, the dragons… etc” I don’t remember seeing any dragons. I guess those orbs maybe represented dragons but if that’s the case my character is jumping to conclusions.

it was a reasonable attempt from Anet to stir up some emotion, but belinda only features a couple of times so there wasn’t much of a connection to her and her death wasn’t dramatic enough(she was discovered dead). If they really wanted this to be major moment we should of witness the death and not only that tried and failed to save her with marjory. Or the classic – a vine comes up to attack Marjory and Belinda pushes her away saving her but dies in her place, then Marjory could have that guilt of “It should of been me” to go with her sadness.
I do like that the Anet writers are at least trying.
“I want to pay once for free meals at this restaurant for the rest of my life! This food sucks!”
“Ok, sure, we can do that for you.”
“I want every meal to be perfect and new! This food sucks!”
“Umm, we’ll do our best.”
“I missed yesterday’s lunch, it needs to be lunch forever! This food sucks!”
“That doesn’t really seem possible, we need to keep moving forw—”
“NO! All meals, FOREVER! This food SUCKS!”
“Fine, fine. If you just sign in here when you come eat, you can have that meal as many times as you want, into infinity, for free.”
“And what if I don’t? This food sucks!”
“If you miss, that’s okay. We’ll still give you infinity meals for a one-time fee of $2.50. We’ll even toss you an occasional gift card!”
“BUT I HAVE A LIIIIIIIIFE! I NEED EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME FOR FREE ALWAYS!!! THIS FOOD SUUUUCCCKSS!!!”
“Siiiiiigh.”
I’m just replying to this just in case others missed it. it perfectly shows these people that love to complain about spending a little cash (or in game gold) for what is otherwise free content.
Some people are really cheap.
Do you guys know of any really good current WvW guardians that write guides, videos, etc? I’ve found a lot but not many are current.
I feel like I’m getting better… but still avoid solo roaming unless I have some decent support.
lol, thanks for that. not ready to unleash my warrior just yet
what’s the current state of guardians atm? I’ve just got back into mine from about a year ago, followed a few guides, read a lot of threads but find I’m dying like really quickly against rogues and elementalists (its the burst + consistent damage/conditions and easy escapes), and if I managed to hurt them I can’t seem to chase them down. Its either I die or they run away injured. It all seems a bit depressing. I think I need some good guardians to tell me its going to be ok
What’s the best thing we have to offer? What would be the best build to go for since I’m kind of new to the in WvW? I basically don’t want to die and do some good damage.
how do we match up against other solo roamers? or should I just forget about doing that?
I’m not sure that new voice actors could save them, I actually think the voice acting is very good, its the rubbish dialogue they have to read. It was the same issue with scarlet. A top notch voice actor but a horrible script.
I just don’t know how they can think all this mushy twilight romance dribble is good for the development of the characters. If its because they want us to think that they are pathetic doting wannabe heroes then its working.
I would be happy if they gave the new cast a more gritty edge and leave the lighthearted lines to someone like hobotron.
There is lore in this game, the problem is its badly delivered. They expect you to hunt it down, but most of the new stuff they come up with isn’t that interesting so no one pays that much attention to it.
The only thing more annoying then anything they say to each other are people who can’t stop kittening about it on the forums.
difference is you choose to read the posts about them and even comment on it. I can’t skip the horrible dribble they spew out, or choose not to play the living story without them. You have a choice and still come in here complaining about complaints.
it just breaks the tension of the game, we are hunting down a deadly murderer and these two are just going on about how much they love each other. Anet sure know how to turn two potentially interesting characters into two obnoxious characters.
Except what you are saying simply isn’t true.
If you look at the dialogue from Cornered, the story instance where we are chasing the murderer you will see not a single piece of their dialogue is directed towards each other. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cornered#Dialogues
And from the other story instances we are looking at one brief conversation in Fallen Hopes which amounts to Marjory saying “I’m okay now so no need to worry about me” and a couple of lines of dialogue in the first instance where Kasmeer is being overly protective and offering to take Marjory’s watch. The word Love isn’t mentioned once that I can recall.
This is why a lot of people criticizing the Marjory/Kasmeer relationship are called homophobic because they rely on blatant misrepresentations of the storyline to prove their points, which is usually the tactics of those with ulterior motives.
Kasmeer “Listen. I’m sorry about how I’ve been acting. I just can’t stand the thought of you getting hurt again. That scared the fluff out of me.”
Marjory “I know, honey. I’ve felt the same way about you. But you convinced me that you can handle yourself. Now, let me convince you.”
Its that kind of stuff I find nauseating. I thinking, omg lets just keep going shall we, you can both apologize about each others mood swings later.
I agree with you. Canach is a very interesting character. I think this is also due to the way the Anet writers haven’t given him much attention. If they did I’m sure they would turn him into some pathetic individual.
I also really like the idea where you have optional instances where Majory and Kasmeer can go on and on and on about their love without it breaking the atmosphere of the game. Or at least give me an option to interrupt them during one of their ‘moments’ – like: “Hey guys shut up for a second and focus on the mission! your mushy dribble is getting annoying!”
it just breaks the tension of the game, we are hunting down a deadly murderer and these two are just going on about how much they love each other. Anet sure know how to turn two potentially interesting characters into two obnoxious characters.
I think they are trying to appeal to 10-12 yr old girls.
those 2 “ladies” are my least favorite npc in any video game ever and i want both of them dead, i hope they are both dead before the end of season 2
I’m beginning to feel the same about them. It’s like those annoying couples that go on and on about themselves. I really hope they slowly fade away and retire to their love nest.
The issue I find is Marjory and Kasmeer were interesting characters at the beginning and now have turned into these two obnoxious lovers.
inquest and centaur alliance
Another alliance? this just reminds me of the crap that was the first living story.
Of course its Kiel’s doing! You would have to be blind not to see this. She’s been behind it all from the very beginning. She’s a cutthroat murderer. Hopefully Evon will deal with her this time.
There is something wrong when the thing you’re most excited about is not the game itself but when you can play it.
When I’m able to play games is the last thing I factor in when buying a game.
- New Zones (at least 3)
- Better writing with the Living Story, less political and social themes and more adventure, thrills and suspense.
- More likable lead characters, and villains that are hated for the right reasons and not because they were poorly designed.
- Better Dungeons containing unique bosses with interesting mechanics and unique loot.
- something for the growth of my character, perhaps ranks in the vigil, order of whispers that I can work towards which gives me access to unique awards.
ANet is writing for teenagers. I’m sure they could do a better job, but there’s really nothing in it for them if they do. Also, they have to crank out stories pretty quickly, so I would guess they don’t have a lot of time to consider too many intricacies, especially since that would also mean more time needed for the devs to implement it.
Even if this was true and that is their target audience then they underestimate what teenagers can deal with in complexity and depth.
I recently watched a few episodes of thundercats (research for my design work). anyway… It was surprisingly mature. It had slavery, torture, death, war, and some scenes that hinted on slaughter. It was completely different to the 80’s version. People have become desensitized over the generations and require more and more to shock.
They aren’t writing for teenagers, more like pre-teen. Its a kids story, a fairytale without the excitement.
I think since the horrible job they did for the first LS people’s expectations are at an all time low. It won’t be hard to improve on it.
I guess we won’t have long to wait to find out…only ~4 weeks. =)
4 weeks?! this better be good.
I agree with the OP, you don’t to hand over the whole story straight away but offering something interesting for people to speculate on at the start of the LS would be a good idea.
I hated the fact that the last LS was basically just speculation and guess work through the majority of the story. Its good to know why we are doing things, ‘just because’ doesn’t really cut it in good story telling.
I’m the first person to jump on the writers how bad they are doing their job. But for the next living story let’s give them a chance to prove they are not fresh out of some community college or home schooled writing class. Sure they made some ridiculously simple and glaring mistakes any rookie would avoid but I have hope.
IF they deliver some boring story then unleash hell, go broadside and open all barrels. But until then I say give them a chance to prove that the first chapter was more of a lesson than their best attempt.
TL;DR – give them a chance…
Disrupting the economy
Racial prejudice
Trahearne.Well if this is true its very, very disappointing news. Two of those things are low fantasy issues that are found in real life and the third is the return of a much hated character.
My god did they not learn anything from season 1?!?? Its time for the Sylvari to take a step back and not be in the limelight for a change. I have a sylvari character and I’m sick of my race being in the thick of it. Give us a break!
Also how about some high fantasy stories?! like a search for an ancient magical artifact, or strange and wondrous creatures terrorizing the land, or some mysterious figure of power that commands a legion of undead. A bunch of traders disrupting the economy is such a lame idea, followed by a social story of racial prejudice.
BOOOooooo so boring. And why not lets bring back Trahearne to really make it terrible.
so basically elona
Well if what I described is Elona, then Elona is what I want. Do they have good writers in Elona that aren’t fixated on boring moral issues.
I can’t wait for the 2nd to see what exciting new things they have drummed up for us.
blah blah blah..
Watch Log Horizon.
So I went and watched a bit of it. What am I looking for? Its about some kids that get trapped in an MMO. Interesting and entertaining concept.
Anyway I hope this next living story starts of with a bang and its nothing like: “please collect 20 samples of that thorn over there…”
Also how about some high fantasy stories?!
That’s the MO of the Living Story writing: subversive writing that tackles social justice issues. The high fantasy, the epic adventures, those things come second to duplicating social justice stories in Tyria.
I agree with you, because that’s how it feels when I’m playing the game.
Does Anet want recognition for addressing real world problems in a MMO. “Hey look at us! we’re educating people on corruption, prejudiced, sexual diversity, labour exploitation. Pat us on the back please for being thought provoking!”
I get enough of those issues every time I watch the news or open a newspaper or just walk out the door in the morning, then I choose to spend some time escaping from that in a fantasy game. But oh no, that has to follow me there as well.
I wish they would drop all that and let me participate on some epic adventure where me (the hero, not Trahearne or Kiel) overcomes the odds to take down some almighty foe. I make friends and companions along the way, twists and turns, ups and downs. I’m sick of being a tourist on some lesson in morality.

I came in here to mention the camera issues but it seems half the people here have already mentioned it..
carry on…
Give us answers to questions and don’t just leave us guessing for half a year. Its all about pacing and they had no idea how to do it.
Also when there is information to give, give it to us IN-GAME, not spread out over a multitude of social media sites.
Finally I want a high fantasy story.
dragonlance? I really enjoyed those books back in the days…
this is good news.
