Thief is actually a pretty hard match up for rev. The majority of thieves are not very good.

Thief is good against rev if played correctly, but rev is better vs everything else.
Also, you stated that revs have bad condi cleanse. That’s why pros bring d/f aurashare ele. To remove condis and keep rev healthy, d/f serves no other function than to keep other up.

At least 210, it’s funny how all the script kiddies on these forums think software development is easy. It’s magic, it just works! “I wrote a few hundred lines of code in college, including Hello World!”

I write more code in a normal work week than in 4 years of college. It takes hundreds of programmers and millions of lines of code to make GW2 work.

because not having a test server makes whole lot of sense… Seriously, you dont need to be a pro game programmer to know what’s ideal dev environment and what’s not. I’m a full stack developer in finance industry in NYC, we have a staging test servers and run unit testing before merging / pushing code changes, you’d think it’s pretty common for gaming company to do something similar. For the amount of developers Anet claim they have, they sure suck at having a system for handling their internal QA. More often than not, they break old stuff and introduce new bugs. There are plenty good software development concepts like Agile, perhaps Anet should adopt one of them and hire capable people to write user stories to improve their development processes.

You can’t compare the resources of a company in tech/finance to the resources of a game developer.
One venture capitalist could fund GW2 for a lifetime, and that’s only the bottom level of funding.

Also, look at NCSoft’s 2015 Q4 financial statement.
Taking a look at retained earnings of the previous year, current year, and net income of current year. Using that and converting currency (should do at 2016 rate), NCSoft paid nearly $60 million USD in dividends.
They’re still keeping a portion of income for the company, but you can’t forget that NCSoft looks for quarterly profits.
If they aren’t profitable, GW2 will be dropped. That’s why ArenaNet tries to be profitable, not sustainable.

Despite all the gem store sales, it might be profitable in the short run, but highly unlikely to be sustainable in the long run, where a company needs to invest in R&D to stay relevant, and R&D in this case would be test servers and new developers.

OP clearly doesn’t understand the game, Anet pls ignore him. If you think Tempest is OP, well then you don’t know how to play. Seriously. Tempest is the currently the most susceptible build to CC, even druid has more stunbreaks. Tempest is only there to keep others healed up. It also has only 13k HP and no precision/ferocity.

guess what, eles have less base armor than thieves and the same base HP yet they are dozen times more tanky because of their 100% protection uptime + the damage mitigation from traits/skills and of course b/s heal amounts from various water attunement abilities

while boons and damage mitigation can be dealt with in some way, its just stupid when they simply heal up back to full hp just by rotating through water attunement because of amulets which give healing power

Ele has very little condition cleanse with his Aura Share build. Tanking Cleansing water makes you extremely selfish and removes the purpose of this build.

I beat Eviscerate warriors with non-Tempest fresh air builds, only Mist Form and Lightning Flash for kiting abilities that druid has amazing access to. Kinda unfair how many kiting abilities druid has. I trust in my dodging skills, tho you have remembered that I rely on my energy sigil to provide me the energy you need.

What? I thought ancient seeds make you immobilize a foe, when you aa them when they are cced (they are dazed, you attack them with anything and they get immobilized). It doesn’t work that way?

You do realize every new elite specialization has some form of reflects? Scrappers have a ton of reflects too, nerfing ele just brings up other up stuff to the meta.
If you ask me, the problem is that so many things nowadays are projectiles, seriously. Ele focus offhand has never been a problem till now that so many classes have projectiles. This makes core specs fall out of meta even more, you either have projectile reflects or are left in the dust. Edit: Oh and ele reflects along with auraheal is the ONLY thing keeping them from not being useless.

DH’s biggest strength is doing damage in teamfight and auramancer directly counters DH by providing reflection and AOE stunbreak. Now you also have scrapper bringing in reflective field. When two of the meta choices directly counter you, there is really not that much hope for it to come into play

Personally I thought it was cool because I like warhorns. I think they’re cool. I guess you could go offensive with menders and be alright now that that’s finally in their game. I just find it ironic, since most people didn’t think that tempest would be ever used at all over fwa d/d ele those days and that its be a nerf to take tempest over arcane.

That’s only because the specializations itself was buffed quite severely during the betas. The traits in the first beta was crappy, the warhorn still is outside of air for damage and water for a water field.

Why can’t they just change the way stability works in WvW? I’m so tired of the design philosophy that all the skills in three very separate game modes have to be the same.

GW2 is completely divided between PvP, WvW and PvE, so it’s time to accept that and designing skills around that.

A perfect example of a change would be to revert the warhorn skill on warriors to effect 10 targets again instead of 5 and convert the conditions back to boons.

This change was out in because it was OP in PvP but it really crippled warriors frontline ability in WvW.

Especially since you have sigils in PvP that differ than in the rest of the game.

Saw someone suggest a middle ground, where each stack of stability when hit made you immune from further CC for 1-2 seconds. So 5 stacks of stability gave you at least 5 seconds of no CC. But don’t really know how it would work out, since I’ve never been part of organized fight stuff.

Ele has burst. It’s just really high risk most of the time. I’m 70% sure nothing outbursts a S/D Earth/Airburst combo. And it’s basically instant.

It’s a one trick pony, that still does less damage then a backstab thief or revenant if done properly.

I searched a bit for an overlay written with C#, bit I’m fairly new when it comes to doing such things – displaying an overlay over an DirectX 9 (GW2 is using dx9 right?). Found this: http://www.unknowncheats.me/forum/c-/62019-hooked-external-directx-overlay.html?s=3308251391bdbcc30895cc3269bab01b. The fact that it is non-hooked should prevent GW2 to detect it as a external program trying to influence the game. Is that correct, or do I understand this wrong?

The other offspring of HoT that hasn’t disappeared is the amount of AoE, and especially AoE cc. The trick to killing someone in a team fight isn’t careful focus, but stunlocking him in a corner and dropping circles all over. This is highlighted by a prevalence of condition builds of the new mode. Where once condition builds had to play attentively, most now just throw conditions everywhere without much thought.

Condi Mes play is a prime example: Push a button, any button. Was it a skill? Good, you just applied multiple conditions in a circle. You don’t even have to see your target. Reaper, Ranger, others are in the same boat. I’ve played a lot of condi Necro, and I despise how simpleminded the condi Reaper build is. There’s no easy fix here, but it’s a disappointing direction for things to have gone and we’d do well to be mindful of it moving forward.

As much as I have suggested cynical motives to parts of the expansion, I don’t think that applies to elite specs.

It’s just very difficult to add new dimensions to the gameplay in the form of new specs and classes and hit this margin where they don’t result in power creep while also not being so underpowered that people don’t want to play them. I’m hard pressed to think of an MMO that’s actually hit that margin.

WoW’s death knights greatly overshot it and they even publicly stated it was a mistake that they learned a lot from.

Hmm, one of the most constructive comments yet. Yeah I have heard about WoW’s Deathknights, heck I’ve seen videos. IMO problem is that Anet doesn’t seem that eager to fix problems with power creep, I mean if we at least we’re able to see their vision of each class. Now that I think of it, I can’t remember any MMO with a new profession introduced that wasn’t too strong.

What? Are you seriously saying that this balance is worse than the one shot meta or 4 ele one thief meta prior HoT Balance is subjective indeed!! I main warrior and I can tell you this is one of the best meta we have ever had. Why?? Build diversity, at least for warrior; we have about 4 viable build atm, and if that’s not balance then idk what this.

4 ele, 1 thief meta? Ele was NERFED, no longer did that meta exist. Its survivability was still one of the best, the the burning nerf was a lot of damage taken from ele. Plus the might stack potential was nerfed with removal of might from cantrips. META =/= OVERALL BALANCE. After the ele nerf, the balance was extremely GOOD, you could run anything and be successful, even tho you weren’t in meta on paper. Now, the balance is much worse compared to pre-HoT balance, but much, much better than balance pre January 26 patch. Why? Overloaded abilities on certain elite specs. I can probably count all non-elite builds that are “viable” on fingers of one of my hands. Elite specs are balanced with each other, but not core builds. You can run no elite spec, but your effectiveness will be much worse than that of an elite spec. Also, we currently have no idea whats viable, since ranked hasn’t been up for 2 weeks now (anything is possible in unranked).

I have been recently using GW2 Efficiency website and noticed that there seems to be a delay on the actual TP costs of items. I am sure it goes through a certain API that probably updates every couple of minutes. Am I correct?
One last thing. I always wanted to know how to make an overlay with visual studio for GW2. I would like to write something small for myself during raids, but don’t know how to start.

I tried, played non-Tempest Fresh Air ele and actually did something, mostly because the players were bad and I do have a lot of experience in playing non-Tempest Fresh Air. I couldn’t kill anyone solo tho, which extremely BAD considering I am suppose to be the one that kills stuff, rather than the ranger bunker. The energy sigil nerf hurts much, much more than anyone may think.

Ever since I have read the post saying that HoT sales were slightly disappointing -> not enough free accounts bought the actual game. Anet stated that they are trying to figure out ways to make this conversion better and I have a feeling that Elite specializations are included in this process.
However, if Anet believes that they will make more money by making Elite specializations in every way better than Core specializations, they are wrong. You will get people to buy the expansion if you HOOK them into enjoying and playing the game. If a freebie sees that everyone that bought the game is playing a build that is cleary superior to his in every way, he gets frustrated and will NOT want to play the game -> he leaves and you don’t make any money. But if this free player enjoys the game enough and feels rewarded, he will BUY the expansion and continue buying items from gemstore -> you make money.
What do you guys think?

To be honest, if the enemy team stacked other professions rather than 3 currently most OP elite specs, stacking wouldn’t be a problem. Removing class stacking is a cheap, lazy and a bad way to try to balance things out.

Burst can be argued over, but it definitely did become more spammy to achieve that burst. Problem is that there are too many defensive boons flying around, so everyone needs to do so much more damage in order to achieve that.

It’s exactly the same with Burning Speed ele has, the evade it has is only illusionary, since you don’t dodge during the pre-cast and after-cast, so until Burning Speed is updated, neither should be Hammer #3. As for Elixir Gun, I would much rather see something done with #2 ability, rather than dodge on #4, since it already is a very good skill.

If the gold rewards in WvW will become much better compared to PvE, there will be gold farming trains. Unlike PvE, in WvW you can easily make a deal with enemy that will gain most gold for both sides in shortest amount of time. Just like EotM.

Oh ok, just wanted to know someone elses opinion on this matter.Yea, I don’t really want brain dead PvE players either, maybe hide the gold behind killing players, or the longer you can hold a keep, the more gold you get for holding it and the more gold the enemy faction gets for capturing it. Dunno, something creative that sparks a competitive environment that karma and gold trains usually avoid.

So, I am not too experienced with WvW, but since one of the HoT bulletpoints was a big support and update to WvW, I wanted to start doing it more since it is a lot of fun. Problem is, that hasn’t really happened, in fact it probably went more in the negative direction. I really wanna play the game mode, but don’t want to spend money to transfer to another server (and I also don’t really wanna grind gold for it, since I need it all anway). There is also the fact that I like my server (server pride) and it is what always made WvW unique to me, compared to just straight up PvP. Since I am playing on Aurora Glade, I do have decent population during the server reset, but pretty low population during work days. The new map is even more dead. So, I was thinking what could be done (even tho it probably won’t be done, but just for fun). What if Anet made WvW as a reliable source of gold, or even better than PvE? but make it exclusive to EB and borderlands, I don’t want another karma train with the mists map (played enough of that kitten when I was leveling my chars). You already have ascended items and skins with PvE grind, but WvW you have nothing, especially with the expensive food.

There should be a competitive alternative. Like a soloqueue ladder that does not use the league system but displays in leader board. If something like that is not possible then they atleast should reduce this month to like 4 weeks. You really think the month will make them balance the game better than if they watched closely for 2 weeks and actually reacted with small balance changes? Inb4 no balance patch at all. If you are pro, 2 weeks are enough to adept. If anything it would be more fun to watch a meta that is not completely set in stone yet with a few surprises.

If you think a month time will increase meta quality then I would just like you to remember last seasons meta and prove you wrong.

BnS is pretty good (read: awesome compared to GW2).

Don’t promote that hentai game here… a game with a kittenty storyline,and kittenty pvp with no strategy at all. Come on calling that game crap is an insult to crap. That game is utter crap. Gw2 is light year ahead of BnS.

Actually that is problem of gw2. GW2 seem having huge balance issue everytime they implements something new patch due to so many classes and so many build diversity.

BnS is quite simple as compared to gw2, but idk, i found that game no depth as compared to gw2, but much more balanced than gw2. Becuz it is hard for ncsoft dev to balance as long as their game remains simple.

If you were dev what would you select?
1. Implement diversity, and have balance issue everytime you implement something new, resulting in people quit the game. But generally, game with diversity is more fun than simple game when balance is perfect.

2. Make game simple, less build dependant game like BnS or LoL.

well idk. Having diversity is good and the main point why we play this game but sometimes it is disaster when it gets too complicated for even devs to balance their game.

Problem it is not sometimes, balance issue has been already 4months from the release of hot last year. In this case i think dev has no capability to balance their game, so they have to make their game simpler like BnS.

Balance needs to be, whether there is depth or not, it is a basic, fundamental thing in any PvP game.

At the core of the problem is power creep and removing weaknesses from builds while dumbing down skilled play. It used to be that every competitive build had one or two strengths and usually some minor weaknesses. It’s gotten to the point in HoT where there are a few dominant builds because they have multiple strengths and no weaknesses. And the amount of skill to achieve those strengths has greatly diminished. It used to be that you needed proper timing or set up in order to do well (not spamming skills into dodges/blocks, baiting out cooldowns, etc). Now your top builds can just spam and even if they screw up, they can keep spamming because the kitten nal is so deep.

Here’s a few examples of how the game used to be during its prime (over a year ago):

  • Bunker Guardian Great at holding a point and in team fights. Not extremely mobile and can’t win 1v1 or de-cap, so useless on offense by itself. Staying alive, especially in a team fight, meant good use of positioning and cooldowns; burn through cooldowns too fast and you couldn’t help stomp or res allies.
  • Shatter Mesmer Good burst, but required planning and setup with clones. Doesn’t live long when caught, especially if CC’ed. Positioning and good use of limited survival cooldowns was key. Team support with portal and Time Warp or Moa was great, but you couldn’t just spam them.
  • Thief Good burst, moderate CC, but low sustain damage. If caught in CC or cleave damage in a team fight, would drop quickly. Not a build which could stay in a fight, even a prolonged 1v1; it had to hit and run. However, it had great mobility and decent escapes, so it could keep looking for a better fight.

And here’s what you have now:

  • Druid Great mobility, CC, survival, and decent damage from pets. Only vulnerability is chain CC, but as long as you stick to small fights, you’re unbeatable even if you spam.
  • Scrapper High survivability, high mobility, high damage. Hammer variants have lots of stability, so CC isn’t really a weakness, nor is kiting. Neither survival nor damage require good cooldown use or setup.
  • Reaper Spam chill on someone to reduce incoming damage (directly due to trait and indirectly due to longer cooldowns), kite, and deal high damage. It’s not realistic to remove the chill, which would be fine if it didn’t provide so many strengths. Meanwhile reaper has improved mobility over base necro and isn’t as weak to CC. Death Perception + Decimate Defenses makes Reaper’s shroud very strong even in condition damage builds with low precision.
  • Dragonhunter CC and stability just for attacking you when you’re close to them (no skill involved). Very high healing, most of which can’t be reasonably countered (little skill involved) combined with high damage, CC, and stability makes them hard to fight 1v1 or corral when they roll up to a team fight. Numerous stun breaks from skills and traits make CC more difficult.

Search and rescue trait has a 85 second CD. It can be reduced by 20% by the Resounding timbre trait.

Search and rescue shout has a 45 second CD which can be reduced by 20%. It is not a quickness res and it can be interrupted. The shout pulls an ally up from 1200 range and allows you and your pet to duo res him. One people cleaving can delay the res significantly. Res speed is affected by healing power, this is why you are baffled by the speed. The Ranger is most likely running the Menders amulet which makes him very glass and vulnerable to focus fire. It can run away perhaps but it cannot sustain vs 2 people for more then a couple of seconds.

Furthermore, you are basing your opinion on unranked play which is debatable in itself.

Bottom line is, this is the very first time we have seen a dedicated healing build in PvP. This is a good thing. This is not a bunker build that can sustain indefinitely vs multiple foes on point and res people as an afterthought. This is DEDICATED HEALING.

Nobody was talking about a dedicated healer build, it is just that Search and rescue is OP, since the downed player is teleported OUT of cleave. Since the pet and the ranger combied start rezzing, it takes only 1.5s to complete the rezz. In order to stop this, you need to start applying heavy cleave, which is near impossible in 1.5 seconds. And remember, thief using steal with interrupt either druid or pet, the other one is still rezzing even after interrupt. The fact that you can also double up on the skill using the trait makes this safe rezz even more frequent.

staff dps is nothing compared to fresh air tempest. way lower

Staff performs better on still targets with large hitboxes (Gorseval).

I have been thinking of a build for raids, that could be a healer and a tank at the same time. http://metabattle.com/ is a good place to start, tho only builds that are generally very popular are posted on there, so it is definitely not the be all and end all of class builds. You will quickly learn what works and what doesn’t work for ele. Oh, don’t forget youtube videos, there are a lot of builds for ele in different videos for different gamemodes.

I do agree that balance is much better, but ele and mesmer got nerfed a bit too hard and warrior still can’t keep up. But yea, balance is much better, or better said more FUN, but the game is still lightyears away from balance.

They obviously don’t want these lillies dropping too often because its the ideal WvW set. Dire was already heavily used without condition duration.

i’m currently working on my Necro, with trailblazer’s armor and trinkets, giver’s weapons, nightmare runes, sigil of malice and super veggie pizzas. She’s getting something like 80% duration on all conditions (100% on bleed and chill) and stacks that on top of the 33% scepter basic duration boost.

Combine that with tons of tough and vit and you can see the problem.

Yea, I thought as much, but I don’t think a stat set should be expensive just because its soo good. I can see the problem tho.

Today I was checking out how to make a trailblazer’s intricate gossamer insignia, but for some reason each Maguuma Lily costs a ridiculous 7 gold You need 3 of them for a single insignia, it’s just stupid. Usually I don’t complain about expensive stuff, but 120 gold for all 6 exotic pieces is just kittened. I know most of you are going to say grow up kid or deal with it, but I just don’t see the reason why the drop rate from plant gathering would be that low (only has a 1.35% chance to drop from Jungle plants). I do understand the system behind supply and demand, but 1.35% is just a little stupid imo.

Overload Earth protection down.

Holy crap, they didn’t even state that in the official change notes. They probably knew this was going to cause a kittenstorm in the ele community, since ele got soooo many indirect buffs this patch. Too many. Well, I always had a soft spot for Anet, but this, this has made me despise them. I hope that ele is so useless this patch, nobody plays it like warrior pre-patch, so Anet buffs it next patch. In 3 months. Hey, at least Dark souls 3 is out in 3 months.
Edit: Sorry people, I copied the changes to a notepad and accidentally deleted quite some lines of text including Tempest and Thief stuff. Take my advice, don’t use notepad

Scepter is fine, what it needs more than anything is nerfs cause of all the insane blinds, and instant dps. When scepter gets nerfed then we’ll talk about buffing it. L2p

Besides, I dont mind some nerfs to less instants play in exchange for the mentioned minimal needed buffs.

That’s where I would disagree, instant scepter play is the most fun thing about it. It needs quality of life buffs, so it can be viable outside of instant cast playstyle, we have to burn quite a lot of our cooldowns just to perform these, thieves for instance can burst much easier. They have to get in melee tho, that is the only tradeoff.

I’ve been thinking about the changes a bit and the new Diamond Skin is a much bigger nerf than it seems on first glance. Think about it. You need to be HIT, to cleanse condis. Problem is, when you get hit your life goes down and it also goes down from the conditions themselves. And since the internal CD is 1 second, you will get below 75% waaaay to fast, because in order to remove condition damaging you, you need to get hit and thus diamond skin threshold is immediately broken. I was hoping the new DS would mean a reliable condi cleanse apart from water, since eles have been stuck with water since the start of the game, which is killing build diversity. Your thoughts?

It’s just that he and his buddy Helseth have more salt than this entire forum (that is an achievement all by itself). I do agree that druid ranger is a little cancerous, but then again, Leet0 plays reaper…

With all due respect … A statement: “He’s just running around and his pet is killing me” cannot be the one of a skilled player. Even PvE players can hold W button.

Leeto may be good at teamfights / duels / his own class – but after I watched this video all I learned is that Leeto knows which buttons he presses kill the target fast(er).
He has no idea how to counter his enemy.

Why am I saying this? Because we’ve had so many cries from people like him and we’ve been stuck with unjustified nerfs ever since I can remember. 8 classes like it because they will have their free target dummies back but we’ll get stuck at our former position yet again.
And I’m getting pretty fed up with that. 3 and a half year was quite enough. If we happen to be in the most powerful spot of meta like Elementalists have been for years – then I’ll accept the QQ. After so many years of being top. That is my only condition to acknowledge the nerf. Otherwise it’s a L2P issue. You don’t believe me? Reality already agrees. We all learned how to deal with Eles a long time ago.

Don’t be confused, I don’t think Leet0 is a very good player, but I remember watching him in the past and he played pretty well. I haven’t checked on him ever since tbh. But please don’t say he has 0 skill, that is wrong, there are a lot of factors for playing bad (considering he was raging a lot probably means he was on a tilt from getting rekt by that ranger). I think pets have the wrong aspect, like pets should be utility rather than damage. Look at smokescale for instance. Dies quick, not very tank or sustainable, but is still used quite a lot just because of its smoke field. Why should pets be utility? Damage pets are just a bit too strong 1v1, but extremely weak against multiple enemies.
I don’t really agree with you about the justified qq, ele has always been in a good spot of meta just because of its versatility. I also don’t agree with Leet0 qqing on druid, it has it’s counters. It’s just that, and this is a problem with ALL classes, that druid is infinitely superior to non-elite ranger in every way. That in my opinion, is where qq is justified.

I was replying to the comment made, which compared Legendary status to people who get rank 80. We’ve had years to get to rank 80. And people can literally cheat their way to rank 80 with no skill whatsoever, trading wins. Huge difference.

There is a difference, yes.
You can’t be AFK when trying to get to Legendary. The skill requirement is still not there.

Did you watch the guy’s performance the OP posted?
A player like this was able to get to legendary. The skill is below zero. It actually proves something. In reality, getting to lvl 80 was about time consumption. Getting to legendary is about being smart. Not skilled. You don’t need to be skilled at all. You just need to be smart.
