Mate, you don’t know what you’re talking about. First, 3 extra stacks of burning would be a noticeable increase even in power build. But of course, you wouldn’t run power, you’d run condi. Second, a burn ele can outdps a condi necro as it is. Third, Burning Precision is taken in every meta build. Because it’s good enough even for power builds. Last, but not least (and I repeat myself), you’re comparing a minor to a grandmaster. You expect them to be on the same power level? That’d just be awful balance. You’re wrong on so many level it’s not even funny anymore.

While I agree that the trait would be OP without at least an 1s ICD, comparing minor to grandmaster doesn’t hold up anymore. There are lots of extremely strong minor traits in the elite specs, some of them almost as strong as the grandmaster, but certainly lots of them are stronger than master traits.

Please also remember Scrapper WAS THE LAST ELITE SPEC TO BE RELEASED, barely giving time to beta test it, and all those TBD on the streaming interviews with the devs.
ENGIE IS ALWAYS THE LAST PRIORITY.

I bet that it is because they actually took the time to develop it. Take a look at Tempest for example. Everything is just a copy of other assets and the whole elite spec has 0 SYNERGY with the rest of the class apart from earth. Not to mention the fact that it is hella boring to play, standing around for 4-5 seconds just waiting for casts to finish.
Your post boils down to “Waah! My class has half of the abilities completely useless (which other classes have too, not just engi) and find bad excuses to complain, saying devs care more about other classes.”

Just like a DH can wreck the team if he isn’t focused, a necro or revenant do the same. Perhaps people are just bad.
Then again, I do think that DH has a tiny bit too much damage on his traps and is badly reliant on knocking/pushing/pulling enemies over Test of Faith. That damage should be elsewhere, not in that trap.

Hi ,

I’m so tired this season , we can’t get up.
I was legendary , but now , i can’t group more than 2 , and i’ve to carry headless chicken in silver.
Every game , i’ve best dammage , best kill , best rez , best all.
I do beetween 25-45% everywhere ( 60% sometime on heal/def )

I can hear some genius say statistical mean nothing and someone can be usefull without good statistical…. wow genius !!!
You mean a guy , who have under 10% dammage , 10% heal , 10% kill , but have 30% death is usefull to team ? wow… i can’t imagine how genius these people are.

We have 5 player in a team , 100%/5=20%
If you do more than 20% , you are usefull ( you can count % death to negativ ) if you do less , useless.
Of course there are heal , and they will not do 20% dammage or kill.
A good heal do 10-12% dammage , 55-65% heal , 10% kill , and can easely do 30-35% def so average is easely equal to 20% or more.

So statistical mean everything how you are usefull or not , still if you are heal.

Finally , to go back to problem , how can i’ve every time 25-45% everywhere and still locked in silver ? i should be gold or platinium. Because im not good enough to carry ?
Problem is if you have a guys A ( in silver but with a platinium lvl skill ) , a guys B ( same , in silver but with a platinium lvl skill ) and they fight in silver , they have each 4 guys C ( silver Chicken ). Some time A win and get point while B loose point , some time B win and get point and A loose point , so , finally A and B stay in silver. still if they do all job.
A and B will not every time fighting each other , but im sure there are a lot of other good guys who will fight and loose and have nothing to do in silver.

Its a real problem , but there are a solution !!
A team win , the last from this team loose point , because he are not usefull , and have nothing to do in silver , carry by good people who need get up.
A team loose , the 1st guys from this team win point , because he have do all the job , and he have to go gold instead go to bronze.
We can extend this solution to the 2 last from win team , and 2 first from loose team.
And the last from loose team loose more point , and the first from win team win more point.
It will solve all problem , and people will fight in the division they deserve.

I hear same genius from the last time say " yea but its not good , all people will play only necro or guard’.
Omg…. i can do 25-45% everywhere as guard-necro-war-thief-ingi , and i can heal as ele like the plan i’ve say earlier. If i don’t play ranger or rev , its because im not good enought to carry with these , but you can be sure you can with these too.

And it’s not finish! we have a second effect from this solution.
People will not AFK in game anymore , cause they don’t want be the last from team and loose more point.

I bet that a very mechanically and rotation wise skilled player could have none of the top stats and very little damage/heal/… yet would still win the game. Rotations are much, much more important than top stats, up to the point that I am almost willing to say, that top stats don’t mean anything.

Except team queue messed hard with matchmaking. It kinda seems like Automated Tournaments are the only way to fix stuff.

It would be broken beyond any reason: fire and water = staff, air and earth = dagger/focus. Fire provides very good aoe damage and water gives you lots of aoe heal, while your d/f in air does lots of single target damage with AA and of course you have Swirling winds and Gale. Earth on d/f is the reason ele still is meta, so it’s a no brainer to pick it.

Maybe it’s because i’m on the EU servers, maybe i’m a weird player but i think the matchmaking works with the current system.

Quite honestly the biggest problem i could see is too small a playerbase to draw matches out of and that’s not something you’ll fix by introducing more and more filters into the search.
Sure, your perceived result will be more accurate but in this case that is not something you want to that level.

Your changes would lead to an incredible increase in queue times as the system would have to look all that over and find people exactly in your range, the possible sample to look into though would get smaller and smaller with each round, and, worst case, different characters played by the same person.

If anything A-Net should do a per character rating and, as sadly was voted out, lock the character relog at the start of a round.

Not at all because if the game match us with ppl much higher or lower of our level, because there is no other players, it’s not a problem. In all case him and you will gain points depending on what u do in the game.

With this system, people will less care to be with bad teammates because they will know that if they are doing well, they will gain more points (or lose less).

I don’t think that is a good idea. Simply using these stats is not enough. You never take into account that sometimes moa and portal change the fate of the game. Or stealing a beast, rather than just killing it by yourself.
You can’t make a matchmaking system like that, it has way too many factors, otherwise other more popular and games with more money in the competitive PvP scene would have made it by now. And still everyone uses MMR.
We need more incentive to play PvP → more players → better matchmaking. It’s the same with the esports. You need people who will watch it first, before you can improve the whole scene.

LF Specific Ele Build

Truth be told, you have to be very skilled with ele to pull it off. Not trying to brag about it, but I have successfully ran the build in WvW in the past. Learning it was a nightmare tho. I used full glass, scholar + ascended zerk armor, 15k HP and yes, it hits like a truck, can kill anything from warrior to engi, but it is hard to play and extremely punishing.
Killing stuff with it makes you a boss tho, enemies will instantly know you are good if you can use the build well. And hell is it fun.

Ele complaining about large scale WvW…

Go see engy, ranger, thief & to a lesser extent mesmer for classes that actually have something to complain about on that front, and have largely had those complaints for years. (which tells you all you need to know about how much attention Anet give class balance in WvW)

Now here you are wrong. Probably biased cause engi main. Pretty sure it gets beaten by guardian in the number of extremely bad traits and utilities. Ele isn’t far off either.

I am biased because I am a Flamethrower Engineer main, I won’t argue that. But Guardian as a counter-argument?! What do you see more of in WvW: Engineer or Guardian? Guardian is way more viable than Engineer, sadly. Elementalist I view as an un-nerfed Engineer; it is the ultimate generalist – in the developer’s own words, while the Engineer falls in as the mediocre generalist.

I do not discount that there are crap skills in each class. I believe that there should be no “Perfect” pick, like in WP’s example of the Tools trait line for the grandmaster, where everyone picks the 50% endurance regeneration over all the others because it is just so much more viable. I believe that all traits should be viable.

Did you serious use WvW as an example? That mode is full of zergs which guardian was built for. And no, it is NOT so much more viable than engineer. Engi can be easily played in all 3 game modes. And btw, ele is not an un-nerfed engineer.
Pretty sure you play WvW and see that groups run guard for boons and eles for heals and think that they are better than engi that way. Engi is not at all a mediocre generalist, if anything, ele is, as it has to specialize heavily to stay in meta.
PvP engineer is just as viable as ele. WvW might pull ahead in zergs, but is worse in small groups or solo roaming. In PvE condi engi wins because of the current condi heavy meta and the +150 condition damage it gives out.

As things stand scpter should be the burst ranged dmg staff should be the aoe siege wepon dagger in the melee aoe wepon for main hand. Off hand foce is the def wepon dagger is the melee dmg and WH is the support wepon. These are the rolls the weapons play and if they do not fill that roll then something should be fixed.

I think scpter needs a bit more burst and staff needs more aoe. Wh has good support but its lacking a powerful boon or a means or enabling a powerful boon.

Nah, focus lacks survivability when under pressure. Focus has 3 extremely powerful CDs (Stone flesh, Swirling winds and Magnetic wave). Warhorn has none.

Focus lacks sustain but not defensive skills. Where WH has a bit more sustain (all though it dose not have all that much in it self) that would fit for WH getting a bit more pt healing / support but i would love to see it get one of the 3 big boons and not just more of the same that ele gets from just being an ele.

I can agree with first point, but I mixed about second…

Damage is there only it’s isn’t that reliable (in pvp). I would prefer one good skill for bursting.

Still, core ele has burst damage with scepter. Sustained damage isn’t that great and if we don’t hit harder with burst, I don’t think ele will ever be good.

Umm… What?!

Assuming we are talking about fighting players.

Well, tempest used to have much higher base heal on auras. Besides, you have to go in melee range when overloading and easily interruptable, even with stab on overload. Fresh air tempest for example: If you take superspeed when you swap to air, you lose all sources of fury and since you don’t swap into air that much, as you are waiting for your overload to finish channeling, you don’t get that superspeed that much either. Sure you aoe damage is neat, but not that great after nerfs on air overload. You don’t have a lot of sustain, neither do you have the mobility to kite. You also don’t have enough condition cleanse, as you drop vigor and regen on aura for stability and since you need to take water in this condition heavy meta, even your cleanse on regen doesn’t provide enough of it. You could say, well just avoid most of it, but the thing is, you are waiting for your air overload to complete and thus eat those conditions, since you can’t dodge. Wall of text….

Core ele on the other hand has decent survivability, due to all the superspeed and dodges, as well as the ability to kite with instant cast skills. But it lacks in damage (while fresh air tempest has just that, but little survivability), as it takes quite some time to get down any bruiser builds, like druid, warrior or engi. Your +1 is also terrible in PvP, as you lack the interrupts of thief, or the boon steal of thief. Mobility too.

I totally agree with Poelala’s changes tho. Anet likes to “normalize” (auras, CD on Renewing stamina…..) so they should do that too.

You know, having 2 healbot eles is terrible too. Sure they are tanky, but they don’t have the counter pressure to keep stunts off themselves. Same goes for 2 druids. They won’t have enough damage to win. But yes, I would rather have 2 dragonhunters than 2 thieves on my team.

That is arguable, if those manage to get 2 points, they can hold them forever. I have seen it done. Not to mention, nothing stops one of the druid changing the build to dps which is fairly viable.

Yea, but that doesn’t mean an entire class should be balanced around having more than one in a team.

Thief is freaking amazing at what it does.

Population is definitely an issue. But it is not the ONLY issue, however it remains the biggest one. Why even try queuing, if there is not enough players from within your rang to play with/against? You need people who play your gamemode first before you can modify the game mode to suit them.

You think this is bad? watch this (the guy that is relogging is a thief): notice how nearly balanced enemy team is and how we somehow ended up with 3 thieves.
I mean what a joke, the balancing team balances classes around NON-class stacking while class stacking is so prevalent in pvp.
Someone actually thought that hey, it would be great idea to reduce thief to some kind of pet that has to heavily rely on team and actually rely on being ONLY thief on team!!!! Somehow it didn’t get into their heads that teams might end up with stacked thieves… or they assume that players should fix issues devs created on first place -_-’ and it hasn’t been addressed for years.
More on opposite, the moment someone discovers a build for thief that can duel a bit – ANET CAN’T WAIT TO RELEASE A PATCH TO DELETE THAT BUILD (hello staff).

P.S. @ all my “fans”: no i don’t ask thief to be OP but i ask for solving the issue of thief designed around being a liability to the team. Or prevent class stacking. One of those needs to happen.

Liability? What?? Thief is the playmaker of the team. Doesn’t matter if people are bad, it can carry much better than even a warrior can. It’s only on par with mesmer when it comes to the soloQ carrying potential.
Teamfights are not that important, especially when there is a thief on your team. The only reason you don’t want 2 thieves, is because you need someone to stand on your nodes. Just like an ele needs their team to do damage, a thief needs their team to stand on their nodes. And just like a warrior needs his team to not lose the other two points he isn’t standing on, thief needs a team who can capture and fight on nodes.

Thief is the go-to carry class right now in soloq, mesmer included.

Why didn’t you switch from thief? Why would they switch from thief, when you don’t want to do that either. Really, it happens quite seldom that our or their team have 2 or even 3 of the same class. People just don’t want to switch.

And since there is no support, why don’t YOU play it? Stop whining and complaining about things that aren’t really an issue. Low population? Now that sounds like an ACTUAL issue they could improve and get rid of.

Players not swapping classes, either because they don’t feel like it or because they Only play that 1 class, is a bigger issue than player population.

Everyone voted to keep the class swaps at start of match and no one is doing it. I call that a missed opportunity… I want my profession leaderboards.

Nah, I’m pretty sure the population is a bigger issue. A player can change the class and voila, he could do something that helped him have better chances (and since he plays a different class, he will learn a lot about the game, the class and how to play against it).
But you can’t somehow magically increase the population for better matchmaking.

Also, profession leaderboards would be cool, but this is an mmo rpg. Stats affect the whole gameplay of the class way too much. An ele is not necessarily support, just because he picked ele. He might be fresh air (most blatant example).

Ele isn’t in such a good spot as everyone is talking about. It’s more like on the level of every other non HoT build. Rifle and p/p engi are pretty good too, just like necro and guardian are. Core shatter mesmer isn’t bad either, as portal is extremely strong.

No it is not after the trait rework. It’s before as the old trait system was still in place. Before the first powercreep of 23rd june and HoT itself.
The game felt much different than it does now and most people prefer the old days. Myself included.

What the hell are you doing to find groups as these?? I’ve pugged for the last 4 weeks, not a single time did 1 player say a thing about DPS from meters.
Still, if someone says that you don’t have enough dps, it’s mostly from the fact that you are not (not you directly, your group) doing mechanics properly.

If the rotations aren’t done properly, DPS is the easiest thing to scapegoat. Don’t say that Anet shouldn’t allow DPS meters, as none can read another players’ memory. They guess your DPS, means they aren’t totally correct.

DH that doesn’t want to invest in crit complains about hitting 2k on ranged attack on heavy golem? Really now? Good joke.

I think us DH are more frustrated with the RNG on its damage. The rng is so big that I can’t hardly distinguish a damage increase on an 10% or 20% dmg modifier; the damage range of numbers are often inconsistent.

Trueshot is good for its crit… If I were to use it knowing it wouldn’t crit, I would just auto.

Btw.. all meta DH builds in high tier pvp are “optimized crit builds.”

No way AA hits as hard as True Shot when it doesn’t crit. Besides, everyone loses lots of damage when you don’t crit, especially with abilities that have an even longer CD (looking at you rifle engi/fresh air ele).

It’d be O.K. for me if the casting time was removed.. more like ranger longbow 3.. if the dmg stays the same.

Both your suggestions are terrible. The cast time and the root of True Shot are the only things that even tell you it’s coming. Besides, it has low CD, good damage, good range. No need for buffs.

Also wanted to mention. Damage is not going to make DH meta in the pro scene. In high SoloQ, it doesn’t need any buffs as it is already quite strong. It’s only in coordinated 5v5s that DH isn’t on par. And damage is by far the worst way to buff DH and make it on par in those scenarios.

Could sigils be made to do things in %? For example, boon removal could be like 25% of all boons? For example, target with 5 boons would only get removed 1, while a target with 7 boons would get removed 2 boons from them.
Could work the same with conditions and numbers could OFC be tweaked.

Maul → Tiger F2 = 10k damage. Did it myself. Hit a 14k with Hilt Bash → Maul → Tiger F2. I wouldn’t be worried too much tho, expect lots of damage when you get hit by Hilt Bash or Maul. Only very good rangers can pull it off, if you are a squishy class, outrange them when they have greatsword up.
Works wonders until people catch up.

It’s kinda strange all the ranger players defending Ancient Seeds, while pre-HoT they were on the receiving end. How quickly people forget. Pre-HoT if a guardian used Hammer #5 and teleported to you from a far, a range usually couldn’t do anything but die, if he didn’t have stability. Now, if you don’t have any condition removal instant and ready, you simply die like ranger used to.

You know, shatter mesmer and fresh air ele didn’t get a single buff either this patch. Pretty sad, since rifle engi, shatter mesmer and fresh air ele were some of the most beloved burst builds pre-HoT.

As far as I know, this was about swapping characters while the game is already going on, so no matchmaking improvements could be made here, as you could simply swap before the game actually starts. This is GOOD, because you either let players swap whenever they want, or you don’t let them swap at all.

DH is a bad class

I’ve seen Sindrenerr talk about DH on stream and he said that DH is a bad class, as it always has a better replacement in the composition, when it comes to high tiers of ranked play.
It’s not underpowered tho, buffing it with more numbers wouldn’t make sense. It doesn’t need more damage or healing, what it needs is utility. The problem is, that if you keep its numbers the same and also give them extra utility, then you just made them OP.
Reduce numbers, increase utility. Always works.

i always thought the meta in season 5 was really good why would they need to change much for it to be considered a good balance patch?

Because there is also the off meta stuff. And they barely even touched that. That’s why every is disappointed by the patch.

If it’s ok in platinum, then maybe it might be worth something someday, but until then prolly not.

I generally wonder. When balancing, do you devs compare performance of different professions/builds to each other to determine what mechanics or abilites buff/nerf/add/remove to the underperforming build, or do you follow a vision of that build/profession in your mind?
For example, I’ll use fresh air elementalist, as I know it best. It’s pretty clear that fresh air ele will never be meta, due to the fact that other builds simply outperform it mechanically wise: ele has no stealth, no boon removal, not enough CC to chaincc a target – this automatically makes thief by far the better ganker.
So my question, would you then buff ele with all these things to make it have access to stealth, boon removal, …. or would you follow that vision and only tweak numbers?
