Found this while looking through some dulfy stuff under tag WvW:
- There will be several balance changes in the next balance update that were specifically made for WvW.
Edit: For all those who agree that WvW is in desperate need of profession balance.

I am a condi rev player and trust me i have climbed to legendary no so easily because this spec is hard. I know that guard actually is high but is not constructive to just tell guard is op nerf it….
I just said that the guardian spam kinda ruined the season for me. It’s not fun seeing 2+ guardians every match (no joke, I was counting the number of guards). It’s kinda like eles last season but cc destroyed them, while guardian has many ways to deal with it.
You are a guardian player so your vision of what is competitive is a little bit blurred. I’d say the best season was season 3, the guardian spam has kinda ruined the game for me in this season.
You make traitlines like Fire, Air and Arcane much, much stronger, while also buffing everything that is not shout. This way bunker tempest either has to give up his aoe healing with shouts, condi cleanse and healing of water or protection and cd reduction from earth.
Srsly tho, it’s so easy to balance this game, but anet won’t listen to reason. This could apply to any class too. For example:
Anet gives Elemental Surge 50% reduced CD. A dps build would benefit much from this, as Arcane block is suddenly on a 30s CD (at 30s CD, it becomes a very good ability, but it requires you to pick up the trait) Bunker tempest would have to pick arcane traitline (dropping either water or earth), but still the only useful skill for it would be Arcane block, therefore it wouldn’t be worth to pick up Arcane just for the grandmaster. DPS builds on the other hand, would explode with possiblities (glass staff ele in WvW, sustaining with blasts from arcane on water fields; fresh air ele would now have very good burst and would be worth picking up in PvP; mightstacking would become a thing on a glassy build).
Cantrips could have their Fire trait buffed, making Fire suddenly worth picking up again when running cantrips! Glyphs are in Air traitline so buffing it wouldn’t buff the bunker tempest.
This can be done to every class and every build: engi rifle in Firearms (making firearms worth picking up on a burst rifle build), guardian hammer trait (the current meta variant would have to choose between 3 condis removed on F2 + more healing, or a burst heavy hammer trait, so again, it wouldn’t buff meta dragonhunter).
All of this can be achieved by simple number buffs, but if they really wanna do something for their game, numbers are not gonna be enough.

Guards are just too good with their symbols and traps aoe damage on a small point. Where they used to be roamer dps, they are now intended to bunker on points while still doing massive damage due to traps (was fighting a guy with menders ammy and he was pretty much unkillable, while easily killing 2 ppl on his own with timed traps and there was nothing I could do). Simply reduce their aoe capabilities and we’ll be good.
Adding cast time to traps won’t solve much, since interrupts on demand aren’t a very common sight. Also, once a trap is dropped, cast time or not, it’s still gonna do massive damage.
I have currently won 4 games in a row and still get “Loss streak 7” text. It has to be a bug.
Druid is already at the bottom when it comes to damage. I fail to understand why anyone would want them to lose even more damage.
I meant that they should be forced to pick some healing power stats in PvE to achieve the same healing, as currently you don’t need to do so to raid. PvP wise, 15% or 10% of base healing would be actually more like a 5% nerf as they get so much from their mender ammy.
I think druid should have it’s base healing in Celestial Avatar nerfed by 15% in all game modes. It would make the less dominant in PvP and would also give other specs a chance to be played in PvE, as currently druids are a no brainer, providing insane buffs while still having very good healing, albeit more burst healing but never the less. I think they should lose some damage for those buffs and healing at the same time in both game modes. (tho this is already true for PvP where pets cover up for that lack of damage)
Scepter generaly is considdered a weak weapon, but it´s the only flexible ranged one we have. Offhand dagger doesn´t bring enough after the RTL nerf. Most play D/F. It offers the best mix of damage and defence. Has the best auto attack lighning whip and shocking aura. Staff is hard to hit the main damage against moving players.
Warhorn is some kind of support weapon and not so bad, but i faild to use it well. It´s to slow.with default builds, is running d/f still possible? i really like the playstyle of ele being melee.. but since d/d is dead, im wondering if theres any builds thats similar/close to being how aggressive d/d playstyle is
I don’t think so. The non-HoT S/F fresh air ele relies on constant kite to kill the enemy and the only other option would be fresh air tempest with D/F, but you don’t have hot. Try burn condi build I guess, oh and if you are good enough, staff lighting rod build can do some pretty serious damage. It’s easily countered and not really good against druids in WvW.
I’m mildly amused that their recommended builds are finally good. Rest in peace accuracy sigil lyssa runes S/D ele. Their S/F template is nearly identical to what I run, save the water line.
On a more serious note, S/F ele is among the highest in combat mobility with superspeed, and only loses to thief with fgs out. I’d say high mobility isn’t too bad a tag.
With rev port nerfs, thief is the only thing that’s substantially faster. Portal is arguably not really a mobility skill.
True, but you need constant fresh air procs for that. And most people think of teef flying through the map when they see the word “mobility”.
They needed to make some fake tags, to make the build even remotely look viable xD Maybe they’ll buff Shatterstone next update and give the build “tons of damage” tag. Who knows.
The fact that you are saying that thief is useless. I take offense to that.
Dont worry thief is balanced around the pro top 1% of players, just look at how well it performed at worlds…lol….
it was exactly like a thief in spvp, useless, getting insta gibbed, couldnt join any fights.
The opponents said themselves in interview after, they didnt really care about him, they just played their off point kill game.
So best thieves getting slaughtered and being useless, is what the balance is supposed to be, no wonder lesser players have trouble playing thieves.
Thief is useless? Wat.
Thief doesn’t work for coordinated high end pvp tournaments, cause it isn’t build for sustain (which every other class has).
Calling them useless? Bs. Thieves are very good in soloq, especially with their decap potential. I’d rather face a team full of dragonhunters, than a good thief. You can kill or outrotate DHs. A good thief will be putting pressure on 2 or even 3 points at once with its mobility, then decap, then finish ppl, stomp… Just because it’s not in meta due to dragonhunter being such a big counter to thief, doesn’t mean it’s useless.
It was absurdly easy to win 1 vs many with bunker druid, or guard a point with war. No challenge whatsoever
Huh really? Do you think you can fight any of those 3 classes on a point with an ele? a necro? a rev? a mesmer?
So let me get this straight…. thieves want to :
- Be the fastest ever
- Be the best engager/disengager
- Be able to counter everybody
- Be able to run away from anywhere and anything
- Be able to fight on points, holding them alsoOk got it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2ugIT68LTsshall we delete the rest of the classes? it would make no sense to keep them in
No. We just don’ t want to be pushed out of the meta by every class at the moment. Saying the once guards are nerfed, then thieves will see the light again is pure bs. Mesmers, Warriors, Engies, Druids should be nerfed as well. Other wise explain me why I didn’t see a single thief in the last tournment even if Guardians were not the most used class? Explain me why the best thieves rerolled revenant. Also tell me when thieves were exsctly meta? When I look at the past years, I remember 4 cele team, 4 hambow team, 4 necro team during the dhumfire overbuff and now 4 dh team but never and never 4 thief team, even during the s\d thief time when Sizer was at his best and when every single thief and his mother was playing sizer build.
Comparing meta of the community against meta of pro players? Hold there buddy. Players who play in tournaments have entirely different view on meta than us. I was listening to Helseth, Chaith, Phanta (yes, long time ago) and they said things completely contradictory to what the meta of the community was at the time.
Thief just isn’t build for the sustain comp they use in the tournaments. If they made teef strong enough for tournaments, it would probably be op in the casual meta. If they redesigned him, that would lead to a lot of buffs and also nerfs. Don’t think you can escape nerfs while getting buffed to make thief stronger in other aspects.
This post is about meta of the community. If it were about the pro league, gw2 would have to be very popular for people to bother with meta in tournaments.
After guards are nerfed, thieves are gonna be meta again. Stop whining all the time.
I know this isn’t what OP was talking about, but I know this post is fueled by the fact that thieves aren’t in the best spot right now. Also, Solstace is right. This post is just recurring from class to class, whoever is not in the meta.
(edited by Tomiyou.3790)
Hell, most of the classes can go melee and burst, while having decent survivability. You just gotta know how to build them properly, tho in the end, almost everything comes down to skill. Speaking from a perspective of someone who owns the expansion.
Ele – used to have one of the coolest DPS builds, which used very fast rotations that you had to adopt yourself and counter the enemy. It kinda sucks now, as Anet dropped the ball and nerfed bunker ele, but this ended up hurting glass cannon ele more than the bunker one. I would tell you to get used to Anet’s terrible balancing, but you’re coming from WoW and we all know how amazing blizzard is at balancing, right? (it’s a joke for those who aren’t familiar with WoW). Search fresh air elementalist if you are interested.
Necro – zerker(glass cannon) variant of necro hurts a ton, but it’s currently not very good as it lacks mobility and has some long cast times.
Warrior – warrior is very strong as a physical damage dealer, but it’s pretty straight forward and gets boring after some time. At least for me.
Thief – bad thieves are a common sight in this game and you can mop the floor with them, however good thieves are a nightmare. This is even more true for very good thieves as they are more about picking the right time to burst your enemy, rather than what buttons to press. The class is much deeper than it seems on the first glance, especially as you are made of paper and you don’t have that much of sustain. Stealth and dodges are your best friend.
Revenant – revenant is a monster when played right. It takes some time to learn the basics, but once you are through, expect to destroy ppl. Won’t write much because there are lots of videos of how good rev is.
Ranger – can be very bursty while having good sustain with greatsword burst build, but it has a high skill cap and doesn’t work in high end pvp. At least not with the effectivenes of other dps classes.
Engi – similar story to ele. Static discharge engineer had very decent burst, but died out with the expansions.
One last thing. The patches come every 2-3 months and balance can change as well as strengths of different classes. But I already said that Anet is pretty bad at balancing, or better said, it takes time for them to actually do any proper balancing, as they only do small nerfs/buffs at a time.
Well it seems I wasn’t wrong. Played 5 ranked matches today.
In 2 of those matches the enemy team got 2 condi chronos and 2 condi druids. We lost without any chance (constant condi spam, no condi cleanse from tempest = doom). Those other 3 matches? I steamrolled enemies with revenant.
Is this for ranked or unranked? Unranked, sure.
As for ranked, trust me those builds are a lootbag carrier. Seen a couple of people run glass staff ele and sustain tempest today and I just bursted them to 0 HP with revenant in approximately 4 seconds. I bet you I can do it in 2.5 seconds.
NA didn’t even use Mesmer in the last finals…. So OP
Yet a mesmer won the tournament itself. Mesmer is extremely strong, it just takes actual skill.
This is a troll post right? This has to be a troll post. Not falling for it.
I had high hopes that this would be the patch that would make Elementalists in PvP finally be able to run a more glassy spec. Well, I was wrong.
The base healing just killed any dps spec that doesn’t spec into water. Wtf are they thinking?? Majority of the people on forums complain that there isn’t enough build diversity, yet Anet just pushes us more into healing power amulets.
I have no idea whether the dev team is actually that incompetent or they just nerfed ele intentionally so they can see how it performs when severely underpowered (so they can buff it in the right places hopefully).
Nothing changed, but maybe thiefs finally have a chance of getting into raids (dps diff is smaller now, and dps spike of ele is now more situational (big hit box, longer cooldown on Meteor shower (33% cd reduction now 20%)), + lava font nerf. D/Wh stays in dps, but was very close already to thiefs. I’m curious if thiefs will get raid spots now.
D/Wh has lost dps too. Pretty sure thief out dps fresh air.
But at least tempest give more support at your party.
Thief has more party support now too. Venom share…
Ele will do tons of damage but get deleted faster than even thieves. Not sure it’s viable yet, but we’ll see.
What makes you think they’ll do tons of damage? They haven’t done it in this meta eer and even got damage nerfs. Of course it’s not gonna be viable, otherwise it would have been viable up to this point.
Was wondering when people would figure out this bug. Wasn’t sure if it actually was intended and the devs just screwed up again and “forgot” to state that in the skill description or it was a valid bug.
Well, not really, but title will annoy lots of people and that is fun.
Feels like ele deals more damage, but have less sustain while dealing damage.
Didn’t tried ele myself. How you feel about damage/sustain of ele?
Didn’t try ele myself. “Feels like”…. I just love when Anet listens to their forums.
You see, the problem isn’t that Anet decides to nerf. The problem is that Anet doesn’t address problematic things correctly. They just flip numbers.
Oh and these nerfs are probably gonna push ele out of meta, more than thief ever was, it’s gonna probably be as weak as warrior pre-buff.
Simple question. Are condis gonna be even stronger next season?
I myself predict that they will be, considering that classes which can use them to a very good extent (chrono, berserker, reaper) got very little nerfs/very good buffs, while classes that were used to counter this condition overload got severely nerfed (mainly healer tempest).
Rumours fly that staff tempest will be nerfed next week. I would like a logical reasoning for so, given they have the smallest health pool and the fewest ways of staying alive if they want to be part of a decent raiding group?
If a staff ele wants to keep up with the required damage for raid bosses while staying alive they have two ways of surviving (besides healing skill that all classes have access to):
- Elemental Bastion (tiny healing to avoid downed)
- “Rebound!” (elite skill with high cd to avoid downed)So, with further nerfs to staff ele we won’t have ways to bring up a comparable damage, and thus replaced by other classes. Is it really necessary to nerf staff instead of improving other classes so they’re on par with tempest? Or you just can’t because you plainly denied PvE to favor PvP, no matter how that hurts PvE playerbase?
Just don’t tell me you’re basing off such nerf on [qT] guild 4manning raids, as that’s far from representative of the rest of raiding playerbase.
It’s about kittening time PvE is freed from PvP. Balancing everything altogether is becoming increasingly unhealthy for PvE.
Staff ele is extremely easy to play and has the highest range out of all classes, except longbow ranger. Your point about survivability still holds tho. I hope they just nerf it by like 7% of total DPS. Currently it has the best dps available and an extremely simple rotation. But so do thieves, guardians, revenants, …. Just autoattacks.
Be thankful your precious ele has been top tier in every game mode since people worked out how to make builds.
“Press 3 buttons to have the highest DPS in the game”
Did you even read what I wrote? Like, all of it?
Also, nice constructive comment to add to the discussion.
I read this, and I become rlly sad since no1 lets me do raid with them because I’m a ele T___T.
I have all the stuff from Metabattle, yet it is rlly hard to find a group.
Wtf? I am just posting this since I have heard some specific things about certain traits getting nerfed, which could impact more than Anet anticipates, which could push ele out of your precious metabattle.
(edited by Tomiyou.3790)
I know Anet has intentions of nerfing staff ele in raids, or at least there are rumors of it and rightly so. They currently just outshine everything else.
That being said I hope Anet understands that nerfing CD reduction traits for each attunement will have much bigger impact than it might seem on the first glance. I am mostly gonna talk about fresh air, as lowering CD reduction will affect only the DPS of staff ele. But that is not the case with fresh air tempest in raids.
Fresh air tempest rotation is currently quite good. Not only for its dps but also its flow. What do I mean by that? Example: Burning speed gets reduced from 15 to 10s with fire traits and Wildfire gets reduced from 30s to 20s. Completing a swap into air attunement takes just about 10s: You swap inside, wait 5 seconds for Air overload to charge and then keep casting it for additional 4 seconds. After that you swap to fire and use Burning speed and Wildfire. You swap back to air again. You have to now again wait roughly 10s to do your air rotation and swap back to fire.
Now we come to the problematic point: If Anet nerfed CD traits from 33% to 20%, Burning speed would be on a 12s CD instead of 10s and Wildfire big dps loss. When you swap to fire the 2nd time, your Burning speed is still on CD for another 2 seconds while Wildfire is still on a 14s CD. You have 2 options:
- You wait for Burning speed to come off CD. For that you have to wait 2 seconds in fire attunement. Since Air overload is almost half your DPS, wasting those 2 seconds in fire is horrible. Even with more damage modifiers (10%, 150 power). And you would have to wait 2 seconds every single time for CDs to be available, while your dagger fire damage skills are pretty bad, meaning additional dps loss.
- You swap to air again. This is an even bigger dps loss than the previous option. But didn’t you say Air overload is almost 50% of your dps? True, but if you swap back into air immediately, your fire skills come off CD while you are still in air doing your rotation. Meaning some of your hardest hitting skills spend a lot of the time on CD.
Seriously tho, don’t nerf fresh air ele. Even if the dps spreadsheet by qT seems like with good boons fresh air tempest would hit harder than thief, and while this is probably true, there is the simple fact that ele has a much higher risk higher reward play (plus Anet shouldn’t balance around one of the best guilds in the game, the raids are still quite accessible to lower skill players). If an ele has to dodge, while being in fire or casting Air overload, that’s a big dps loss (a little less dps if you dodge in fire than air, obviously). Thief on the other hand doesn’t lose much dps, since dodge deals damage.
Opinions ppl?
Guys he’s trolling. Don’t take him seriously. Go look at his history and you will see that he made a couple of these posts, one for each class (Why is it ok for eles to be unkillable, why is it ok for guardians to be unkillable, why is it ok for X to be unkillable…)
You again. Stop posting troll threads. After other classes get some shave nerfs, guardians will be meta without any buffs needed.
You’ve done like 6 of these posts now.
He did say that. I hope it manifests in the game.
You know, typing everything in caps is not gonna help. He was gonna read your post anyway, as he did read mine.
A dev posted a positive comment. Here come the pessimistic people. Can’t blame em tho, but if devs can achieve their goal, leagues will be amazing.
Also, Josh, the way the current legendary backpiece is rewarded (people needing to cross divisions) should be changed if you make divisions more representative of skill, as most would get stuck in a division, unable to climb further = no more progressing divisions. Otherwise not all people could get them. I’m fine by that, but I don’t think majority will be-
But Warrior is fun?
Even with 5 signets being used as passives and single 120sec CD banner that provides yet more passives?
How is that fun? I really want to main a warrior, but I don’t understand how the class is fun at all with only 5 abilities, half of which are purely situational.
To me, it seems like warriors have no flavor.
Warrior is a fairly straight up and simple class, yet surprisingly effective. If you’re gonna do mostly PvE, then warrior could be quite boring, as warriors are the best might stacking class in the game, so most people only use them for that, since as a warrior, using your greatsword is pretty much 90% of your rotation. Guardians on the other hand, bring lots of healing, cc, blocks, blinds, boons, but don’t have as much damage or might stacking as a warrior and their rotation is drastically different and varied, except in raids, where you pretty much just use hammer autoattack, as it has some godly utility (aoe protection, good dps, healing, cc, …)
Warrior has tons of heals with the Defense traitline. Guardian can avoid a lot of damage by blocking attacks or blinding their attacker, but has much less sustain than warrior.
I disagree. Yes, scrapper can be very annoying, but the meta is very stable within itself, only projectile hate keeps meditrapper out of it.
Hi all,
I signed off on the first episode of Living World Season 3, and we’re getting ready to announce the episode and its release date. I’m super proud of the team for hitting this milestone. Over the past few weeks the team has been processing up to a hundred pieces of feedback each day, working to get all the details right.
Reaching sign-off on an episode doesn’t mean we’re done. Now we integrate the episode content with the other updates that ship in this release, and with localized text and voice-over, and we do final testing of all that. To give a sense of the scope of this process, this update has about 1,500 distinct lines of new voice dialog, each of which must be recorded, integrated, and tested in each supported language. For the player character’s voice, we separately record each race/sex combination in each language, so that means 40 actors for each line.
With this release, we’re bundling a Living World episode with additional content for other areas of the game. You’ve seen that we’ve been following a pattern of releasing a bundled update each quarter; this is a content-focused continuation of that kind of thing. Of course, we’ll give this release a name, not “July Quarterly Update”. And we may be able to increase the pace, ramping from four bundled releases per year towards six, so we’ll move away from calling these “quarterly”.
Some of you may look back nostalgically at 2013 when we shipped updates every two weeks. That year we shipped a wide variety of things: nine or ten releases that we’d today call a Living World episode, plus updates to systems and content for other parts of the game, plus festivals. So it was the extreme unbundled version of this. It was nice that there was always something new, but I’m personally not wistful of that cadence, because we sacrificed so much to be able to ship that frequently. With Season 3 our goal is to deliver content sustainably, at quality, establishing a pattern we don’t have to take breaks from.
It feels great to be shipping Living World again. Thanks for your patience through the recent content draught. Having been through it, I’m sure you understand why I’m focused on sustainability.
Stay tuned for a more formal announcement, and for more details from ArenaNet and our partners.
Mo
That’s all great. Now, how about you making getting season 1 back in the game a priority like it should have been two years ago? Its absence ruins the presentation of the game. The majority of people playing didn’t and now can’t experience the content under which all of the major supporting characters were introduced and developed.
Terrible idea.
We need new content, despite many missing Season 1. It would be a massive amount of work to bring back season 1, as the world was literally changing at that time. Also, all the people who played season 1 would complain about lack of new content.
To be fair, it wasn’t a mistake on their part for these specific nerfs (except RoTL and probably BA).
Celestial Ele with 20~25 might stacks was very strong pre-nerf.
I actually weren’t referring to old d/d ele nerf as mistakes. I was talking about so many other nerfs before that to other classes too, that were just plain in the wrong direction.
I’ve seen Lord Helseth play it pretty effectively at legend, he can’t go 2v1 like with mesmer, but he did hold a 2v1 quite good and even got them low till he got support. Besides, it’s definitely not a one trick pony, tho revs shred you pretty freaking hard. If they’re good you won’t even touch them cause of blocks, while they wait out your Endure pains. Oh and you counter tempest extremely hard, the interrupts hurt them more than any other class. Neither are mesmers immortal, they have to be played incredibly good to be immortal. The hardest part of the imo is the amount of clones they flush out makes it really hard to see anything with all the graphical effects flying around.
Oh and we saw one WIN the world championship. That looks like much more than a one trick pony to me. It’s fate probably depends on the composition of the team.
In fact, a lot of what you said that plagues the warrior could be said about bunker tempest. CC destroys them, and I mean it. Interrupting their heal decreases their healing by a massive amount, they have no passive procs, meaning you can oneshot them with a cc chain.
if you have an ele and it’s strictly between those two, engineer
Because ele and guardian cower it’s other role? That why?
Also, isn’t guardian more demanded in later wings than engineer?
(edited by Tomiyou.3790)
Anet never reverts their nerfs. That would show they made mistakes.
I have just started getting seriously into raiding. Successfully cleared the first raid. I have mained elementalist up to this point, along with a few runs with guardian as tank against Vale guardian and Gorseval. Both I have killed as tank with guardian. I have full ascended armor on my elementalist, but as this is currently my only character with full ascended, I have to make a decision on which will be my 2nd character in raids. I want to have one to fill more than just role of a DPS ele. My 2 friends both cover the roles of a healer and tank, that is why I want to cover more dps roles.
That leads me to the decision: condition engineer or dps/support guardian as my 2nd profession? Why not both? Well, ascended armor is expensive and I only want to buy armor with magnetite shards. Thus going for only 1 of them is a better option. Probably shoul mention this, I want to choose the one which is most useful/demanded of the two.
(edited by Tomiyou.3790)
I am just trying to do my achievements.
They are trying to do the same, thats the problem…
Lol. Except I know how to play each class quite well xD. Fair enough I guess.
After about 30 minutes of wondering what is going, I decided to make this post. I reached Diamond today, and now I am in first tier diamond. The thing is, people are even worse than in last tier ruby. What? I did climb to ruby with a duoqueue buddy, dunno what his MMR is, since you can’t see it. But now that I am soloquing alone in first tier diamond, I sometimes get people, who belong in sapphire. Not diamond.
Are they trolling? Playing just for fun with care for losing or winning? I am just trying to do my achievements.
Stun them between their “dagger button 3” spammage
you also need good internet connection :P
No way I can stun them at that point. I don’t have any stuns/daze with no cast time. Any other way?
Wtf is this thread and the OP?? Like every class forum is so afraid of nerfs. No, they will never nerf Adrenal Health into the ground. Anet is not that bad at balancing, they never undo their changes. (thief nerfs, d/d ele nerfs, etc).
As an ele player I want them (eles) to be nerfed into the ground. I won’t play them for 3 months then. Just so a damage oriented playstyle can be brought to meta levels, like warrior went from useless to insanely strong.
Simple question. How do you counter GOOD condi thieves? Because I can’t do anything against them. No “shocking aura” or “just outsustain them” answers please. I am not playing sustainy builds.
