Anything I do on the TP turns out to be a bad bad idea.
Db is attacking people this morning in the EB jumping puzzle. That’s cool with me, but I don’t want to hear any whining when we’re slaughtering you all later.
I’m sorry,
Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you, camping the JP is no big deal. But you seem to be under the impression that what a few people in DB decide to do speak for the entire server.
You seem to be under a grossly false impression. The people you “Slaughter” in the JP later are not going to be the same ones in there now. And thus, can whine all they want about it.
I don’t understand what you’re hoping to accomplish.Actually, I won’t be camping the jumping puzzle. I was under the impression that we had a truce in the JP because of the event. If so, that’s cool too. However, a truce is a truce and once it’s broken it’s broken.
I just want everyone to know that it was broken and therefore the JP should be considered open season again.
I went there today peacefully and was attacked. Not QQing, it’s part of the game, BUT nobody should be allowed to attack when they have the advantage and cry truce when they don’t.
Edit: If this sounds like a bash on DB it’s not intended to be one. It’s a general statement of truth. I love it when we’re up against DB. DB has a great server and we have great fights. I’d post the same thing if I were killed by EB (and I thought we had a truce / cease fire)
Edit 2: I also have no idea who initially violated the truce. It could be that TC did. Who knows?
Well that sucks, lol. Being grossly undermanned and that JP being one of the requirements for this event leaves us pretty high and dry then. Well, that and the fact that we haven’t owned our keep for the majority of the match-up.
Not that it matters lol. [rB] is camping the JP anyway, and killing anyone who shows up. No doubt knowing it’s required for the event… Classy.
There has been no mention of any truce amongst any Commander on DB I have talked to (Not saying they don’t know about it, but if nobody told me I’d be willing to bet I’m far from the only one). And I can tell you there is no mention of it anywhere on the private forums we have for ourselves either.
Why would we uphold a truce we don’t even know about?
It could be that I was misinformed. Or it could be that people were just hopeful who told me (it was a map chat thing). I’m not a commander, so I’m not privy to the meetings (are there meetings?)
Anyway, no slight on DB intended (as I said above). I wouldn’t have surprised me if TC started it.
Edit: oh, I almost forgot, gloat gloat gloatty gloat gloat. :-)
(edited by TooBz.3065)
I recommend this all the time, but seriously, I believe you will be happier if you don’t chase any arbitrary goal that ANet puts in front of you. Do what you enjoy and that’s all. If you like getting achievement points, cool, but the minute it’s a grind, stop. Do something else.
You can burn yourself out with an achievement grind (edited not to put poorly remembered words in Vayne’s mouth. :-) )
The rewards are better than I expected them to be, but they aren’t THAT great.
(edited by TooBz.3065)
I find that the first 25-30 levels of a new class are fun and then it becomes fun again after level 80.
On a new class (as opposed to character) I like unlocking the weapon skills and figuring out what they do. But once they skills are unlocked, leveling is a drag.
At 80 I start running around WvW, dungeons, etc..
Are you laggy in PVE, PVP, or WVW. Under what conditions.
In my experience, lag can be caused by the speed of the computer or the connection, which will be constant no matter what.
It can also be caused by the number of people around you or on the map. For special events, usually specific PvE areas fill up, so you’ll probably get the same lag no matter which server.
However, if the problem is WvW, a lower population server will probably have less lag because there are fewer people running around but you may still see lag if you are in the middle of a zerg.
Not helpful, I know.
I would also be happy to forward it on. But remember, the guy may have quit the game by now.
Mesmers and Guardians are both great at everything. Necro’s have just been buffed from relative obscurity to amazing, but I’m guessing that they are going to be on the nerfing block for the next few patches (as are Mesmers).

I’m calling it now:
Next nerf (7/29/2013, IIRC) will be either:
-PU boons (less uptime, more likely)
-DE placement (from 20 -> 30 Dueling. Still “grabbable,” but yer making a sacrifice in other build areas.)After all, Mesmers are only allowed to be Shatter or Phant, it seems. OTOH, we’ll probably see some “improvement” for Mantras again. I swear, they shoulda just converted the GW1 Mesmer abilities over, instead of tying the majority of our CC/DPS/Conditions into the “Illusion” mechanic. Oh, right – that’d still be Nerf City. /shrug
I guess they will give Deceptive Evasion an ICD.
P.S. Don’t worry guys, Mesmer will still be a top tier profession for PvP. Even after more nerfs.
Who gives a kitten about PvP?
I was trying a similar build last night, having a blast!
One question, does sigil of doom work on OH weapons? I have it on my scepter and on the torh on the other weapon set, sometimes it seems to work and give me the little circle above my skills and sometimes not… unless it just does mothing when not in any form of combat?
But yeah nice build
Weapon swap sigils don’t do anything when not in combat.
I’ll have to test this out.
This is true, you need to be in combat. Pro tip: always do a weapon swap after defeating your enemy, but before “combat” ends for your toon. That way you’ll get the poison ready for the next fight.
Pro tip: don’t run past the next critter and attack it on the way…
But that bunny was looking at me funny.
Oh, I tested this last night with sigil or corruption on my mainhand and doom on my offhand, works fine.
I play a mesmer and I say good. They are op, and stop crying like they ain’t. I fought 1 with my ranger and 2 others were there. Guess who won? I stayed on the mesmer the entire time and she didn’t go below 50% hp while she just ran around as I bashed her and I died faster. She got the others as well. 3 vs 1? Even if I did suck this makes no sense? So all 3 of us just sucked and that is why we lost? Yet they seemed fine against other classes…
I say they aren’t. I think you’re trolling and making this up.
Edit: Nevermind on the build, I see you are using some power build.
Regardless, even with a power build there is no reasonable way anyone other than Osicat or some super mesmer should take out three of you.
Maybe your team mates don’t know how to find the real mesmer.
(edited by TooBz.3065)
I found the key to leveling the mesmer is to always get power on your weapons / armor / and trinkets. At level 17, you can buy all of them from the TP.
Most people disagree with me, but I love sword / sword & staff for leveling. Here is the rotation I used.
Phantasmal Swordman (Sword 5), Illusionary Leap x2 (Sword 3), Blurred Frenzy. Depending on the attack pattern of the enemy I would either do Illusionary Riposte (Sword 4), or the auto attack chain. By getting between the phantasm and the enemy, I could usually keep focus on me, leaving the phantasm free to attack.
Staff
Chaos Storm (Staff 5), Phase Retreat (staff 2) for clone generation and chaos armor, run back into the chaos storm while hitting (Staff 3) (phantasm). When the chaos armor ends (Staff 4).
Yes, keep at it. The pistol takes a little getting use to. The magic bullet skill is a great daze run away skill, but can aggro other enemies (it hits up to 3.
Usually I would do sword 3, sword 3, sword 2, pistol 5 (magic bullet, I may have the wrong number), pistol 4 (phantom duelist) and then run away.
Or pistol 4, sword 3, sword 3, sword 2, pistol 5, run away.
i can’t see PU being changed again it’s a heavy trait investment and if you don’t have a friendly shadow refuge or shortbow it needs some utils to work as well. the trait’s in a really good place at the minute.
The problem here is that you appear to be using logic and common sense, both being commodities in somewhat short supply over at Anet central.
It’s not just us. They are ruining this game for a lot of people by nerfing professions mindlessly. I understand the need to “balance.” But in a year from now…what will the classes look like. They are making them less unique every patch. I just don’t understand how something that began with so much promise has declined so rapidly to state of utter idiocy.
This. It seems like every game goes through this process. They start out with powerful interesting different classes and in the end it’s just a bunch of guys swinging the same weapons with different names.
I understand that ANet may be struggling with the comparative strength of the mesmer in 1 v 1 situations, but these nerfs are getting out of hand.
The worst part of this is the health regen. Health regen, unless wearing full healing power is basically worthless. 150 ticks aren’t going to do much for anyone.
I’m soooo resisting QQing right now. I’ll adapt I suppose, but this is hard to wake up to.
The worst part of the nerf is the ICD. You won’t be able to get off no more then 2 boons and 2 conditions via chaos armor.
This makes it suck in group situations. Because the conditions will activate for only one enemy… and then you only have a 33% chance of getting protection which is the only thing that will save you.
It said it’s per target, so it may be that you can still get lots of boons in a 1 v Z scenario, but it definitely makes mesmers weaker in general, and very much so 1 v 1.
Unless the mesmer is the target of the boons? Oh this is confusing.
If u read properly, it says the random condition applied now has a 1-second internal recharge per target. Boons has a internal cooldown of 1s, so i will assume that only one boon will trigger per second.
Going back to playing guardian~
Oh, yeah. Thanks. I was hoping it wasn’t so bad, but I guess it is.

The random nature of the mesmers skills is extremely frustrating to me. I couldn’t put my finger on why until Pyro pointed it out.
The problem is that there’s always at least one skill does does diddly squat. For example, if you get hit with chaos armor it’s either protection (good, reduces damage), regen (good, gains heath), or swiftness (what?). So 66% of the time the system provides some damage mitigating skill and the other 33% you’re kittened.
Chaos armor should grant protection, ageis, or regeneration (all defensive skills).
It’s not a patch if they don’t buff warrior and nerf mesmer. /rolleyes
+1
Nothing meaningful for 7 classes – then huge nerf to Chaos Armor.
Yeah that’s exactly what I was thinking. But I play a mesmer.
Since they instituted a fee to change servers they have only had one time they offered free transfers and that was to a medium population worlds (I think.)
So I wouldn’t count on it. But who knows what they will do.
This is a common complaint with ascended gear. You get locked into a particular build / play style.
But I don’t think you should worry about nerfs, I think that even if a particular build gets nerfed that a set will still be viable, if not optimal.
For example, look at the Glamour Mesmer nerf. For a while it looked like the rabid accessories people had would be totally worthless. Since then there have been at least three new builds that take advantage of the set. They aren’t as good as the glamour was, but they are viable.
Edit: Quick question: which builds are you considering? Ascended gear has the best crit damage / trait point, so if you are on the fence, zerker / cavalier is the way to go.
(edited by TooBz.3065)
Gaurdians are terrific in both solo situations and in a zerg. Just carry different weapons for each situation. (Greatsword / Hammer + staff for a zerg, Greatsword / Hammer / Sword + focus for small groups).
Why do i get punished for Healing up the Zerg with Waterfields and Blastfinishers or buffing them ?
I wont get any loot but the people that go for the aoe dmg have loot raining all over them.
I agree that this is a problem.
Why do i get punished if i want to change to a different char in order to help out the Zerg for example: switch to a char with commander title / switching to a class to execute a certain strategy ( Mesmer Portal / Ele Heal …. etc ).
What i get in return is usually a 2 hour queue.
There is a queue because lots of people want to play WvW. If you could stay in while changing characters it would make it even harder for other people to have a chance to play.
Why do i get punished if i want class diversity ? I currently have 8 lvl 80 full exotic characters that i could use but its ineffective to switch and try them out in WvW.
WvW abilities need a horrible amount of rank ups in order to get them and you have to acquire them for every single character you have.
Yeah, but the rewards and abilities really aren’t a big deal (IMO)
Seperate WvW Traits / Equipslots:
Why do i get punished for using my Pve character in WvW although i need other abilities and traits as my Pve char that i use for dungeons ?
Everytime i want to do WvW i need to change my traits and my gear for obvious reasons. I dont mind acquiring my gear in Pve and i sure wouldnt mind acquiring some kind of token through pve or the gem store that would allow me to have a seperate set of gear and traits if i enter WvW.
This would be nice.

Weapon swap sigils don’t do anything when not in combat.
I’ll have to test this out.
The mainland sigil tries to proc first. If it fails then the off hand sigil tries to proc. (I think)
Both digits share a cool down. So if 1 procs the other wont for x seconds.
Usually I just walk away. Most of the time a thief can’t burst me down and can’t put up the sustained damage either. But I can’t ever catch them (perma stealth), so I wave and walk away.
Very few ever chase me.
Ugh, this blog post was disappointing. The only question I have is how these skins will be handled. HoM style, once off, vendor sold… but the blog post dodged my concerns like a pro.
These blog posts are always a little vague and the devil is in the details.
Permanent account bonuses—permanent boosts to Magic Find, experience from kills, karma gain, and more. Earn achievement points on any character and get rewards for all of your characters.
Currencies – gold, gems, karma, and laurels.
I can see alcoholics being happy with this.
alt-o-holics are never happy, there is always something that they will complain about and claim that they are being ‘punished’
As an alt-o-holic I feel it’s necessary to complain about your complaint about my complaints.
As a hardcore gaming elitist I feel it’s necessary to complain about your complaining about my complaints regarding your complaints.
But I digress, I’m lazy and it’s almost the end of the work day.
You win.

Sorry, I was saying that you can (in the game) jump and dodge at the same time. You end up doing a jump/flip. But you can’t jump and then later dodge.
But nice to know there are a lot of physic experts looking to jump on anything I say.
Yeah, but its a single action that happens while initiating the dodge / jump. You can’t jump and say “oh kitten” and then dodge.
People are being ported to the end chest of the new jumping puzzle from the waypoint outside of the puzzle. They never even have to enter the puzzle. They need not make a single jump. They don’t even have to find the jumping puzzle entrance.
The devs spent alot of time developing that content. Portal, as it is, is just a slap in the face to their efforts. That’s just not right.
I’ve nothing against seeing people helping others, but this has gone way beyond just helping someone. Porting someone up a jump, or even a small series of jumps, that they can’t seem to make is great and desired. At least with that they are seeing the content and trying to do it. Bypassing all the content, the entire jumping puzzle is not.
Bypassing walls in WvW, and using the skill to skip content in dungeons is not justifiable either. I don’t think people should be rewarded for skipping content.
Those of you who can claim this is right are just dishonest.
That’s a pretty loaded statement. Dishonest. Setting aside the obvious QQing. There are mobs in the jumping puzzle, no? Should a person have to kill each mob individually in order to get the reward? Am I exploiting if I come upon a monster spawn and the monsters are already dead and I move on to the next part of the puzzle?
I’m going to guess you’re going to say no. Because any other answer is irrational.
So why should a person have to make each and every jump themselves?
What if someone shows me where to jump, so I can avoid the trial and error portion of the puzzle? Is that ok? After all I’m skipping part of the content, someone is showing me what to do. That’s half the battle right there.
What if an engineer uses his rifle jump thing to skip a platform or to make a difficult jump easy. How do you feel about that?
What about people who only have 1 hand to play with and can only play the game casually? You saying that they should just avoid the Jump puzzle in general even though the chest contains an exotic reward?
Gotta love this.
Short anwser: yes.
Long anwser: Don’t want to sound like a kitten but: Dude, come on. Are people who are not able to do good hand-eye coordination required tasks, should not do them? Should blind people choose colors for your new housepainting? Should I be the CEO of any company becouse I have no idea about leadership?
And returning to the game: Should anyone be awarded for something they are not able / too lazy to do? Think about the anwser.
If your anwser is still no – I want… no I demand Anet giving me all legenderies this moment, as i have done nothing to deserve them.
There is no I in team. In a cooperative environment, we succeed together as a group, each providing their own strengths. Some of us are better at jumping, some of us can see the faintest boss tell, some are better at mind games and rock at pvp.
Some classes have higher DPS some have higher mobility.
I’m not exploiting when I rely on a warrior to DPS down some mob. I’m not cheating when I get aegis from a guardian. Neither are those classes, when they use my portal.
What kind of weapon are you looking for?
For daggers the corrupted shards look nice. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Corrupted_Shard_
For swords there is firebringer.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Firebringer
If it ever comes to be it will definitely be one per character and soulbound.
My guess is the APs required will more than anyone has now, so no risk to gem sales.
I think more common precursors would actually increase gem sales. Right now the cost of a precursor (say 400 gold) is just under $200 U.S. That’s ridiculous. Almost nobody is going to buy that many gems. But if we had a precursor, they could nibble away as people tried to create the legendary.
Of course, the cost of materials would go through the roof. But that’s a separate issue.
Precursor for Achievement Points only if it is bound and can’t be sold at the TP… otherwise the price would drop because too many players would just get one to sell it – leaving lucky ones that get one as drop at a disadvantage(they can’t sell them at a good price anymore then – waste of luck). Also legendary made from this should be bound.
Under no circumstances can I see that someone who gets a lucky precursor drop would be at a disadvantage. That’s like saying people getting exotic drops are at a disadvantage because you can buy them with dungeon tokens.
Unless you mean that getting lucky would no longer mean that you were financially set for life. In which case I’m all for it.
That’s a straight up shatter build.
Look at Osicat’s posts (stickied on this forum). He uses a staff instead of a greatsword.
also. http://sittingonacouch.com/l2play-with-shawn-buell-ep-3-gw2-mesmer-with-supcutie/
Edit:
As far as pointers go. Some people feel that desperate decoy messes them up because it can trigger mid attack and you go invisible, attack, immediately reappear and have the reveal debuff so your mass invisibility won’t work for 4 seconds. But try it out and see what you think. Other good traits include Far Reaching manipulations (you blink further) and blade training (increased precision and 20% cooldown reduction for swords).
(edited by TooBz.3065)
I would actually prefer it if you could not transfer with in game gold but instead had to pay cash.
yes. If you delete all of your characters you can transfer for free. Move all non-soulbound items to your bank to keep them.
You should pick the class that you will enjoy the most after 80. Getting to 80 is pretty easy.
But if you want a class that will never die and can faceroll to 80, warrior or guardian.
Perhaps. But dear god, not for 8000. More like 50,000. Yes, I am serious. Legendaries should be legendary. There is already way too much of them in game at the moment for the time GW2 is live. IMO way too many people expect to get their legendary NOW. I dont get what is wrong with long (and I mean VERY long) term goals. If you are not willling to get that far than your are not “legendary” enough. Its just a kitten skin, not something that will make you overpowered.
How long is long enough to expect it to take to get a legendary? Sometimes I feel like people would be saying the same thing 5 years down the line.
The game has already been out for almost a year. This is my first MMO so I don’t have a lot of experience in this space. Most single player games from the same time are in the bargin bin.
Sorry UrMom, I wasn’t trying to pound you into the ground. I’ve just had my expectations dashed so many times by these things that I’ve become cynical.
Frankly, I think a precusor for achievement points would be a great idea. I just don’t think it will happen.
another crythief and crynecro thread?
crywarrior this time.
I guess warriors have been buffed so far into god-hood they’ve got nothing of their own left to cry about so it’s time to invade the other classes forums and cry about them having toys they don’t.
Well, in all fairness, warriors should have been able to fly. I think the lack of wings gives them license to complain.
Hey Pyro, where is the updated build? Is it on your Youtube channel, cause I can’t see it (maybe I’m just impatient)
Wow, every post argueing in favor of portals in this thread is being posted by mesmers. Those mesmers are immediately and vociferously attacking anyone who posts in support of my OP. I think this is very telling. I think that you know that portals are breaking the game and trivializing content. I think you know that you are wrong. I think that is why you are so aggressive. I think you just want to have your liscence to steal at any cost.
Or alternatively, mesmers are sick and tired of getting nerfed and immediately having someone come to the forum and demanding a new nerf. It’s gets old.
Unfortunately, it appears the the developers take every call to nerf mesmers to heart. Therefore you see a strong reaction for the mesmer community. We are terrified that someone will implement your recommendation.
I’d also like to note that outside of some dungeons and jumping puzzles portal has absolutely no use in PvE. I personally didn’t buy portal until I hit 80 and was running around in WvW.
Here’s my take on a constructive argument. Not all PC’s are created equal. For example, I have a desktop computer that is pretty fast and can run GW2 fine. I have an older laptop that can run PvE content ok, but can’t do WvW.
Using my laptop produces a lower framerate that makes it impossible to do jumping puzzles. I know it’s the laptop and not me because I can to them fine on my desktop.
Therefore, things like a mesmer portal may be the only way that some people (those with slower computers) will ever get the shoulderpads / achievement points / or whatever. Still other people can’t do jumping puzzles for squat. For whatever reason they suck at them. They also rely on portals to get the achievements and prize.
For some people, porting these people to the end of the puzzle makes them feel good because they are helping their fellow gamer out. For others, porting is a way to earn tips.
Having portals does not harm anyone, but helps other people. Therefore, they should stay in the game.
My second argument is that what good is a skill that gets disabled under the only PvE circumstance that anyone would want to to use it?
(edited by TooBz.3065)
I think this is a problem across any hard to obtain gear. I know a lot of mesmers were really upset when their ascended rabid trinkets were suddenly worthless (because there really isn’t a good mesmer condition build).
I’m going to bet that you are a ranger. That nerf really hit the shortbow hard. I still don’t understand why if was necessary.
Buffs and nerfs are going to happen. Some of them were hurt the effectiveness of different weapons. I can be hard to go one when a favorite is decimated.
But, It’s likely that the shortbow will eventually get a buff and become more useful again.
Edit: FYI, I don’t think there’s any reason to grind out a legendary. The road is too long and I lack the fortitude to attempt it.
We should be happy. They made us a new falling puzzle that’s SO. MUCH. FUN. Even more fun than the joy of the EB campy one. I got to meet SO many people falling. Fell. Fallen. Funkytown.
I completely forgot about WvW for a night, after finding queues all around.
Yeah, this is the biggest problem I have with WvW right now. The queues are getting long.
Last time I was in there (this about a month ago) the obsidian sanctum appeared to have been designed for griefing. Just the presence of traps you can trigger to harm other players animals you can release into the arena, says that the designer intended this to be a PvP jumping puzzle where people would fight their way to the top.
However, I think it’s a mistake to make the puzzle part of a PvE living story. It should stay the way it is.
