What’s even worse is that if people see this post and queue up what little Influence they have on AoW upgrades in prep for Feb 26, and ANet decides that they agree with the community about this issue and changes it last-minute to be less strict. Those guilds may have just wasted their Influence that could have been spent on Missions.
Quite a pickle.

In group activities, like dungeons, random element was provided by, at least in majority of my cases, PUGs
You never knew who you have in party so sometimes a dungeon run was easy to almost boring and sometimes it was a big struggle to keep everyone alive
My concern also is, as now we will be rolling these events with our guild mates, won’t it be a little less random, since people randomness will also be limited?
“People randomness” isn’t something ANet can design for when it comes to guilds. It is ip to the guild to recruit new people if you want fresh faces. However, keep in mind that after a mission is trigger in the open world, non-guildies can join in. This may give you the randomness you seek.

What if your guild only has one member? Is this going to be achieveable?
I doubt you can be considered a guild with one player. Its called solo play when one player.
If he/she created a guild then he/she is a guild regardless if he/she is the only one in it. Put your condescending attitude to rest.
By definition, a guild is: “An association of people for mutual aid or the pursuit of a common goal.”
The official wiki even states: “Guilds are formal groupings of players that enable them to play together more effectively and reward them for doing so.”
Doesn’t matter what the interwebz definition is. It remains a fact that a guild can be created with just 1 player. Stop extracting statements to answer something you didn’t read.
No one is asking for the definition of the word guild.
If people expect guild content to be designed with 1-player guilds in mind, then yes, the definition was needed. Being able to create a guild with one member doesn’t mean it can fully function without needing more.

I haven’t seen this asked / answered, but I am almost certain that some will have random elements. For example, they mentioned that a high-level mission will require the guild to split into 5 sub-groups and each travels to a zone to kill a boss in a given time limit. I imagine that each zone will have at least one boss for such a mission to pool from.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
On another note, if this goes through as-is I can see people selling AoW5 guilds ingame for X amount of gold becoming a thing. (Invite the buyer, transfer leadership to the buyer, seller leaves)
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
You sure it isn’t some sort of visual bug? I’m not ingame to test it out, but there is no notation regarding such a change in the forum:

It amazes me how short-sighted some of the posters are being, claiming that small guilds have no place in the game, that making a new guild is pointless, and that an MMO that has been out for six months is considered old.
Small guilds definitely have a place. Making a new guild is never pointless, even years into a game’s life. Finally, as GW2 is still very young, the first Guild Mission upgrade should not have been gated so strongly. Especially since Guild Missions are a new type of content that many people were looking forward to. It is the biggest addition in this month’s patch, which is supposed to strengthen the core of the game.
What do guilds that are PvE focused (who didn’t upgrade AoW because they don’t participate in PvP) have to look forward to in this patch? The only other major addition is the new sPvP map, which is also pointless to such a guild.
Normally I argue in favor of gating content and carry a somewhat elitist attitude, but this time the small / new guilds have a very legitimate complaint.

The guild I am in has everything researched, so consider me unbiased.
I do not think it was a wise move to gate the first batch of missions so strongly. The first batch should have required Level 1 of something, the second batch of missions require Level 2 of something, and so on.
That way Guild Missions are seamlessly integrated into the current upgrade system and not tacked onto the end.
Edit: It actually baffles me that the current AoW Level 5 restriction made it past the initial round-table discussion. Not only does this hurt small guilds, but it prevents new and future guilds from enjoying the fruits of your labor for quite some time.
Edit 2: I totally forgot that AoW is a PvP upgrade tier until I read further posts. Why is PvE-centric content gated by a PvP tier? Again, baffling.

The game isn’t difficult enough to require a “best”. Though I personally only use Beserker and Soldier items depending on the situation.
It looks like you enjoy the playstyle PTV gear provides you, so why not grab one of those first?
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
While listening to the playerbase is always good in the grand scheme of things, development decisions should not be dictated by a pool of people who know more about playing games rather than designing them. The best we can do is make suggestions in the forum and see if it builds interest in the community. Realistic expectations!
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
No, there are no Ascended accessories yet. The best PTV we can get is Exotic through WvW and the Grenth karma vendor.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
They did say that they want people to play together independent of their personal level. However, it is still intended that AR gate the true level. This helps people with say 20 AR who are only at a personal level of 17 join groups doing level 25~. The barrier of entry was lowered, but rightly not torn down.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
You can get to the point where you get rings from daily chests (10) without any AR, and the backpack’s first upgrade is also very is to get. Throw in the amulet and you’re swimming in AR. I find level 10 fractal groups to be among the most common, both ingame and on gw2lfg.
Having Agony’s damage scale with your personal level instead of the true level defeats the purpose of the levels, in my opinion.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
It’s been confirmed that there are personal rewards tied to the Guild Mission system, so we just have to wait a few days for the patch / detailed notes / detailed blog to see what exactly we get out of it.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Considering they are called the Unseen Ones, don’t be too quick to say they have been killed off. They are too interesting a plot element to just kill off, in my opinion.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
The amount of human gods is always six. Their mantle of power is immortal, not the Gods themselves. Dhuum doesn’t count right now, as the “Death” mantle has been passed on to Grenth.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
A legendary weapon isn’t required to have “the most powerful rewards” since they have Exotic stats. It is a pure vanity reward. Even when they get upgraded to Ascended stats, Ascended weapons will no doubt be easier to obtain.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
The steps leading up to Arah are gated by statues linked to the five temples. Controlling the five temples turns off the negative effects, making the assault on Arah easier.
I would rather see a temple created for Kormir rather than re-introducing Abaddon’s.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Hardmode-First remove all your traits. Then put green armor and green weapons. And don’t use any waypoints.
This is the same thing as a giving enemies a damage / health modifier. It’s “Nintendo Hard”, not actual challenge. For skilled players, all it does is increase the time taken to kill things.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
A simple damage / health modifier would not be more challenging and would waste development time. Dungeons would need new mechanics.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
The only thing true about your complaint is Ascended gear. The backpack is exclusive to Fractals, the Amulet is exclusive to Laurels, and the rings are exclusive to both. All of the other “most powerful rewards” are Exotic quality and available through all parts of gameplay. ANet knows this is an issue for some people and is working to make Ascended items more available.
As for people always referring to this “play the way you want to play / choose” manifesto thing, I think it is silly. You have the choice to ignore gameplay elements if you want, just be ready to accept the consequences of that choice. Don’t want to do dungeons? Perfectly okay, but you cannot obtain dungeon tokens. Don’t want to do your daily / monthly? Perfectly fine, but you will be missing out on Laurels. The choice is yours.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Dungeons were easy even before the recent nerf. I would rather have development time spent on creating a Hard Mode.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
I want a native Mac release first. The current beta runs perfect for me at max settings but it does not allow High-Res Textures to be turned on. Also, the Mac support thread is a joke.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
We need one or the other; a C.O.D. or Trade system. The curreng Mail system is inadequate. C.O.D. would be okay, a Trade system would be better. Trade spam would be given its own channel and, to be honest, I like seeing the spam. It makes a city seem more alive.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
It might give away a lore element that ANet wants to remain unknown for now. There is something we don’t know about why the Sylvari / Nightmare Court / Elder Dragons are linked and seeing their true form might give too great a hint, depending on what it is.
I’m curious what it is though, none-the-less.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
The only two dailies that don’t come naturally to me are the Healer and Aquatic Slayer ones. My guildmates don’t die often enough and we don’t always end up doing the underwater fractal. This forces me to chase random dead npcs and krait. Luckily, the Feb patch will fix this issue.
Overall, dailies are not a grind as many will come naturally as you play the game. I don’t even feel compelled to do my daily anymore after getting my amulet. Te monetary gains from it are modest and the vanity rewards are meaningless to me. I also don’t have alts that need an amulet for Fractals.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Right now Incinerator is the best for an Ele in my opinion. Fits thematically with fire (though the fire is created artifically via a blowtorch), and changes three skills.
However, The Anomaly is the most legendary looking weapon we have access to. It even matches the glow of the final Fractal Capacitor perfectly.
Edit: They could just let us use swords in our main hand. Mage-type classes almost always have access to a sword in games, and it would allow us to use Bolt (Lightning fits thematically).

(edited by Toxyn.9608)
Just adding Damage, Health, and Agony would be very boring. It also wouldn’t be challenging. If a hard mode is ever introduced, new boss abilites and mechanics need to be added. Agony could exist in this hard mode of course, but it can’t be the only addition.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
That drop chance is such an outlier that I honestly think it wasn’t obtainable ingame until recently, and ANet masked the fact by giving it such a low drop rate. That way it is believable that it was obtainable the entire time.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
What’s yer beef with squares? They’re keeping the world neat and orderly.
Everyone knows that Trapezoid > Square.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
I have no problem admitting that I did 100% on purpose and have not seen every event. You don’t need to speak in an antagonistic tone, you could have simply asked.
The thing is, why would I chase after events that are meaningless to the overall plot? I have done every major meta event, I know that much, as I wanted to see the final lore outcome of each zone. I also did every mini-dungeon and jumping puzzle in the game because they are very well made, and sometimes challenging.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
I think this would have a negative impact on the game since players can leave an event and get credit. I imagine people participating only long enough to get gold then moving on to increase efficiency.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Wouldn’t make a difference to me as I am literally never without my armor on. It strikes me as a very “odd” request.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
While Dream’s reasoning is sound and part of me agrees with it, I too want map notifications for active major / meta events. I would enjoy spending less time searching for active events and more time actually doing them. I’ve already 100%‘d the map so it isn’t like I haven’t explored. Perhaps only activate map notifications in a zone after it has been 100% explored?
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Yah, it will be a large amount of gems. It would have to be anyways to justify players circumventing gameplay to acquire the endgame cultural skin. That’s my opinion, anyways.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
I like it. It reminds me of GTA: San Andreas where rival gangs could take over your territory and it was visible on the map. Dynamic events.
Interesting that the Risen don’t take over the zones dynamically, visible on the map. Players could go back to save the zones and fight back the invasions. Oh well.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Since cultural armor is bought with gold it is technically already on the gem store. Buy gems, convert them to gold, buy the skins.
Unless I’m misunderstanding something about your post.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Zhaitan
Eye of Zaitan
Mouth of Zaitan
Tequatl
Claw
Shatterer
Essentially, reserve Legendary status for endgame lore figures.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Geez, lots of men must be playing female characters if these stats are right. Either that or there are more female forum posters. Very interesting topic.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
I would consider giving an idea a -1 as a form of unconstructive criticism. If an idea isn’t well recieved it won’t get enough +1s to keep it relevant, which is a big enough “penalty” in my opinion. Also, -1s could be trolled to keep good ideas below the threshold of discussion.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Interesting but it would probably better to show your rank’s symbol somewhere in your info instead, similar to the map completion star.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Agreed, the new idea is something that could work.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
I would rather be able to dual-wield Foci as an Elementalist. It would be pretty cool to have one in each hand. Especially my favorite; The Anomaly.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
That’s why I said let people choose to allow or not allow replies when posting topics Toxyn
It might just be me, but I consider that sort of selfish / anti-social. If someone has an idea that is good, why bar the community from it when a discussion could make the idea great? People who troll get infracted.
Edit: Armchair developers? You don’t even realize that you were the first person in this thread to be antagonistic, do you?
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
(edited by Toxyn.9608)
Ideas are rarely perfect without iteration. Criticism and discussion helps to reveal possible flaws and alternate points of view. Flat-out trashing someone’s idea or opinion in an antagonistic manner is pointless, though.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
Completing the expected max level ANet considers possible at the time of the title’s introduction. Start the title track slow so that more impressive titles could be added in the future when the new expected max level is reached. The titles would not be retroactively awarded though, as ANet didn’t intend for players to get as far as they did through rez tricks.
As for a title I would want? “Planeswalker”
MTG shout-out.
Antonius Duarte – Elementalist – Kaineng
I can’t picture a rank system being good in reality. How would the game award rank points? Is damage valued over healing? If you run a healing build what is stopping people from moving out of your heal fields, giving you a lower rank? How does condition damage ranking work when you have a group of five people geared for it (shared stacks prevent ranking)? Dodging should award rank but it could be abused.
If you mean a ranking system based off of a win/loss ratio of dungeon completion, how is that fair to the skilled players who get unlucky with bad players every time?
If it is available for Fractals, there would have to be an AR gating system so people can’t just click “queue for L26” and expect to be carried.
It might be a convenient tool, but it will not be simple for ANet to implement.
