I’m sure they will get around to letting you know they are looking into it.

I actually think spirits should attack too, maybe even be able jump into someone and I control them for like 3 seconds.

Yeah I was being a little sarcastic. Spirit build is really nice in a small roaming group though, not only the boons but added confusion with more pets and they get in the way of ranged attacks and such.

Some roaming this week. I like how in the last fight a pro [Yumm] guy doesn’t even engage and just revives people, then runs off without doing anything else.

Ok not sure if this was stated but I’m going to learn you something about the spirit elite.

First it’s not a full revive. Only heals like 80% health (you do the testing) it won’t revive someone that’s at 10% health.

2nd if you poison it…. Guess what…. It’s healing is reduced by 33%….. Woah

3rd you can interrupt it. Requires a stun or daze. Mesmer pistol works wonders.

Edit: this is becoming sad and pathetic when people just see one end of a class and think its op. play the other side a find out what’s going on.

I bet 80% of you couldn’t revive yourself with elixir r or the spirit. You would fail and use it too soon or late.

Try apothecary trinket set with a normal BM build 10/0/30/10/20 use axe/torch sword/dagger start off with a/t and switch to s/d for evades only go back to a/t when troll heal is up and switch back to s/d once it wears off ( on phone so I’ll post more later)

Still confused about this practice night… What are you doing the rest of the week? Trying not to suck?

Eh I don’t know. Just because I’m scared and running away doesn’t mean I’m going to stop casting my ability in the middle of it, so I’d have to say ANet needs to make it so that when you get feared your skills in progress still finish casting.

You’re hiding behind “There’s no REAL gvg anywhere in this game!” argument and posting videos of an old game. GvG’s still happen, but on our terms. The game is what you make of it.

I don’t like the 20v20 GvG’s they are boring to me. I like 5v5’s those are fun (I prefer 2-3v5ish that’s why I roam) but if they want to do 20v20 then hell yeah. You can still learn kitten from it and have fun.

Lol @ all these ignorant posts about go tPvp or Spvp. Obviously JQ isn’t competitive enough to care about their own personal skill. They just want to play the coverage wars. If you want to be competitive and actually be good at this game, you should try and improve your skill in every aspect of the game, not just tower humping and avoiding fights.

All this “we won’t GvG you because you’re mean!” kitten is dumb. Grow a pair. Also, hiding behind “real WvW is about tactics, open field fighting isn’t a smart move” really? It’s a video game, and you JQ won this match up before it started.

Also, not sure why you’re in a hurry to go back to a losing match where you won’t learn anything new other than you still fail at everything.

This has always functioned like this. Essentially, the best way I can describe it is that even though rangers cast Entangle as a pbAoE, the vines themselves are like their own AI entity (thus making them targetable, etc), and their attack is a single target attack. That means that when a player stealths, it does to the vines what it does to the player, and it drops the target.

That means, that the vines can no longer target that player until they come back out of stealth. It has always worked like this, although I don’t believe anybody has ever made it a point to call it a bug before, since from a mechanic perspective, everything that is described is working as intended (no broken mechanic), but because the attack itself is unique, it seems to be broken within that unique niche, as stealth really shouldn’t be a direct counter for the only pbAoE rangers have.

Yeah, I guess it’s not a “bug”. However, I think the skill needs to be changed to work against stealthed players all the same.

Well, we would have to have someone that works for Anet tell us how the ability is suppose to work. Because, if it’s a ‘targeted AoE’ then I would agree that stealthed players can walk out of only if they are stealthed in the first place. But, If it’s just an AoE like say the warriors Earthshaker which will hit, do damage, and stun a stealthed person in the area it’s casted.

Then I’d disagree and say that the roots are just spawning in the radius around the ranger trying to grab onto something, anything and pull it to the ground whether they can see it or not.

You’re missing the point. Stealth in and of itself should not stop an AoE attack. Unless traited, stealth should only be a target drop/invis, that’s it.

Target dropping is why the skill is doing that and the attack still goes off it’s not interrupted or stopped or misses you still get 1s immobilize at the very least. The only bug I see is that fact the root isn’t spawned when you use it on an in stealth character, I will agree that is a bug. Stealthing to get away from it after it’s on you is fine imo. To me that skill is like summoning a spirit that doesn’t move and roots and bleeds those that stand on it.

I would have to disagree with stealthing to get away. It’s a plant (if we are saying it’s a summoned mob) that doesn’t have eyes. If the animation was just changed to show ’what’s really happening’ then you’d see a bunch of roots pop out of the ground around the ranger in the radius of the spell. The roots trying to grab onto something, anything. So them not ‘seeing’ their target, would have no affect on if they make contact or not.

This ability has been like this since the game was released. People are just realizing this now?

I’ve been stealthing out of entangles since I first started playing. CND off them works great. Can also BP+HS or hit your HiS heal. Refuge, anything will do.

Well I main ranger and play mesmer. Can’t see what goes on while people are stealthed, they could have just used a skill to get out of it /shrug and on mesmer if I got hit with it, i’d normally just blink, blurred frenzy, or staff blink out of it, never any problem.

I don’t think it should work on already stealthed players. However, if one is first entangled and then uses stealth I think it should still hold them. That’s just plain logic.

I would argue that if the animation was just a little different, where you see roots pop out all around the ranger for the radius of the attack and try and grab onto something then disappear, anyone stealthed would be affected as well.

The sticky was removed a month or so ago when the mods did a forum clean up. It wasn’t updated anymore so tgey took it down.

There was another thread started, but it didn’t get enough gas and got buried.

Don’t see how that’s a reason to get rid of it.

Saying just because not everyone can do it, doesn’t mean it’s right. Correction, 2 Rangers cast 2 Entangles and get 10 people, 1 mesmer just uses mass-invis and they all walk out of it.

Also the vines shouldn’t have to ‘see’ their target to continue holding onto it…..

It’s because entangle acts like a summon/spirit/pet and does require to see you to attack.

Well it’s a sad ability, just CND off of it and you just walk right out.

Agg looked incredibly bored last night just chilling in our NE tower in Mag BL, I wish we would have half the numbers and co-ordination with our random pugs that you guys have. We would have fought you to the bitter end for that tower.

We were like “Anet should let you sabotage your towers”, would have let yall set up rams/catas whatever you wanted to take it back… Just wanted some fights but it seems no one wanted to play last night.

All in all, one of the best week’s I’ve had in WvW, fighting Pyro a couple nights ago was fun as heck and was kind of my first taste of the GvG atmosphere (I’m not in AGG, I just run with them) and man was it fun.

These tiers def have more stand-alone guilds that want to fight without needing double the numbers to finally decide to push in. Keep it up!

When you cant find fights that fit your size the easiest solution is to disperse to multiple parts that work for what you are fighting.

Doesn’t work when the instant you see any Red they run into a tower/keep.

What does the enemy running into towers have to do with breaking into smaller units?

Because even if you break into small groups they still run from you… under coverage of their arrow carts and guards.

My point was that even if you are even numbers 5v5, 10v10.. people still run from fights because they don’t want to die.

I’ve decided that this is a bug. Entangle shouldn’t be the only AoE attack that doesn’t affect stealthed players. Simply stealthing shouldn’t block/stop an elite attack, while every other normal short-CD AoE attack works just fine.

Interesting video, I can only conclude theres a difference in WvW and sPvP, because no vines even appeared when you used it when he was stealthed which in WvW they would have, and like I said I’ve caught many people in stealth just fine.

Yeah, I’ve caught people in WvW as well. However, I’ve noticed that it’s just as they are coming out of stealth. In this video skip to 2:40 and watch the mesmer I catch. You notice she won’t take any bleed damage but gets entangled twice. Remember, the immobilize hits them while stealthed but only once.

Entangle hits and effects stealth players exactly the same. I use it fairly often to hit stealth players.

Its just a common problem with Entangle that people with condition cleanse or reduction just walk straight out.

I know it “hits” them while in stealthed. However, with NO condition clear or reduction a stealthed player just walks right out of it without ever taking damage or getting entangled.

thieves have condition cleanse in stealth usually. could have been that. They could have evade rolled out of it too since entangle is awful.

It’s not that, I casted Entangle on a mesmer that stealthed. He was able to just walk out of it. He didn’t condition clear or have anything to reduce conditions.

I’m pretty sure the vines work on the same mechanic as attack chains. The vines will appear around their feet but not actually register a hit to “immobilize” them. It will also work if they stealth after getting rooted since the entangle vines work on pulses which means you can just simple dodge out of it if you time it right or use a long duration evade.

Channeled attacks still hit, a warriors AoE hammer attack would still hit and knockdown

Not sure if this is how it’s suppose to work. When casting entangle on a stealthed player, the binding roots appear around their feet, however they can just move out of them. It seems that the binding roots can’t “see” the enemy.

Oh and I tested this on a mesmer with no condition removali. (in sPvP)
