Maybe reducing the time for the Alter the Lover’s Crypt event in AC path 3 and add a mini boss, the 5 minutes of waiting while doing the path feel like an eternity. I would much rather defend for 2-3 minutes and slay a mini-boss. Like Sazberry said, make it a little more interesting too.

Fractal weapons skin should be obtainable with a system similar to dungeon or craftable with material bought with Relics. Since Fractured patch I have gathered data from ym FoTM runs, the results are disappointing.

11-20 : 23 runs, 3 uninfused rings
21-30 : 21 runs, 2 uninfused rings, 1 infused rings
31-40 : 74 runs, 21 u/ring, 8 i/ring, 3 ascended armor box, 2 ascended weapon box
41-50 : 58 runs, 12 u/ring, 4 i/ring, 1 ascended armor box, 1 ascended weapon box

by the time I tried to get my Fractal dagger, I had time to make 8 legendaries, I could have ran more fractal, but with no Fractal skins at all in about 150 runs, I think it’s fair to give up.

Aetherpath - Real reasons it flopped.

I see many of the suggested “fixes” as faceroll changes for lazy people, please DON’T do that. Ooze room is done with 2 players, any class, they just need coordination (i do it al the time with a gurdian friend, or a ranger, or a necro, while the other 3 watch). Pugs just need to learn, same as happens with Arah Lupicus. Aetherpath is not hard, it just needs people to work with each other, wich is the point on Grouping for Dungeon. I’m really sick of joining dungeons to just play alone with some random guys running nearby. In aether we really need to speak with the people, coordinate and work as a team. Don’t remove that, instead make other dungeons that challenging.

In my opinnion, the path is almost perfect. Anet did a nice job, but the problem with the path is the skins. Aetherpath lacks on reward, they needs to be acquired by tokens instead of RNG (and i say this after 270 runs with no luck, when a guildie won an “of dreams” skin in his First run). Not fair Anet, not fair.
To fix: Let us buy the skins with tokens that drop specifically in the aetherpath.

There was only one thing wrong with the Aetherpath dungeon and that was the other dungeons. The other dungeons allow speed running for better time vs reward.

Some of the dream skin are extremely nice and I know a lot of people who would run this path for a chance at them, however right now the chances of getting on of those skins is irrelevant.

  • make Lupi’s projectiles unreflectable.
  • make Lupi use all his skills independent of player position.

I’m sorry if I sound rude I know you were talking about Anet view on things, but those 2 changes would make lupicus unbearable, annoying and boring. I’m ok with nerfing or even removing damage from reflects (some monster/bosses get 0 damage from their reflected projectiles), but removing every possible projectiles in the game won’t make it better, it will make it worst by rendering a nice mechanic useless.

Making lupicus use any skill independent of player position is also a bad change, position awareness is a nice addition to GW2, I don’t mind if boss don’t LoS, but knowing where to stand on a boss add a little dept to the combat, a good example is when you are doing a high level fractal, you are fighting mossman and someone with the aggro just circle around him, cleaving everyone in the party, instead of using active defenses to mitigate the hits.

Cleaving sure is one of necro problem right now, but not the most important. What we are hoping for is some kind of party wide buffs/utilities. We bring thief because they can stealth, blast combo field and blind, We bring mesmer for the portal, reflects, etc. We bring Guardian for aegis, blinds and reflect. Etc.

What they need is an incentive to bring them along, DPS is important but unlike what the majority of the population believe, isn’t the only thing that matter :P because necro actually already have decent DPS on single target

I know these 2 guys probably weren’t in the best place to answer, but the fact that they didn’t even bother saying “it’s definitely something we talk about” tells us that dungeons aren’t and will not be something Anet care about.

We, as a community, better do something, I don’t know what, I don’t know how but something must be done. Over the past 2 days we have seen Dev/Community manager post everywhere on the forum, except the dungeon subforum

We might not represent the biggest part of GW2, but I’m pretty sure it’s due to Anet ignoring this aspect of the game rather than the player’s interest. For casual players, farming open world event is more rewarding than dungeons, so they might run them once and never set a foot in there again because it wouldn’t be worth it.

Dungeon have their place in MMO and ignoring that is a big mistake, for many of us dungeon has been the competitive scene in MMO, pvp is fun and everything but was first introduce in MMO as a side game for fun. I wish I could feel the thrill of getting a world raid first like in world of warcraft, nothing come close to it in gw2. If it wasn’t for the fluid combat system I’m pretty sure most of us, “elitist” would have left a while ago.

The only way for us to be heard by the devs is by switching off and playing other games. They won’t listen to anything else, as with us still logging in, the game is still running successfully.

Pretty sure the only reaction we would get from them at this point would be along the line of
“oh well, no one does dungeon anymore, let’s remove them to drive to people to our awesome award-winning brilant amazing glorious idea that is the living story

A single dungeon with the depth and the difficulty of underworld/ fow or doa from GW1 would be enough to keep many players busy for months. But instead of we get some living story that you finish in one hour, and thats it.
The combat-system of GW2 is the best i ever played, and i dont understand why they waste it with their living story instead of giving us a challenging dungeon.

A dungeon along the lines of the Aetherblade path that is not done by people because you can do several other dungeons in the same length of time it takes to run this one path?

In my guild we do aetherpath almost every day.

But of course a dungeon that is longer and more difficult should give better rewards. In GW1 you got the obsidian armor and tormented weapons in these dungeons, rewards that were unique to them.

The best rewards came from the UW/FoW/DoA. If ANet did something that made it worth peoples while. Then they’ll do it. Clearly what ever you get from there is not worth the time/effort.

The weapons you can get from the aetherpath are worth 100’s of gold.

But it’s faster to run other stuff for the gold than to cross your fingers. It doesn’t take all that long to make 100s of gold just through daily dungeon tours anyway.

Okay but Xanthium of Dreams, among other Aetherpath weapons sell for more than several precursors. That’s some pretty great loot.

You have as many rolls at it as there are weapon types, and all of them are pricey. Do you begin to see the circular reasoning this is becoming?

“OMG Aetherpath is too hard, i can make hundreds of gold just doing the easier dungeon paths”
“Maybe if Anet made it worth it”
“Several aetherweapons are worth many times some precursor drops”
“Anet y u no make hm dungeons”

Dream weapons are not an incentive to do Aetherpath, they have under 0.1% drop rate, most dedicated runners didn’t get one yet. I ran the patch over a hundred times now with my group, we still haven’t got a single weapon.

But heh, no surprise here!
I guess we all knew the future of PvE was doomed as soon as a number of vocal players botched its competitive potential and asked for short-sighted tweaks

We all knew it, but we kept believing, the game has so much potential and it would be really easy to come out with quality content that wouldn’t require too much work, but they rather act as if we don’t exist, everyone in this game has at one point done dungeons, it’s a crucial part of the game. Every patch is a disappointment and now, the put the last nail in the coffins.

I know I won’t be able to quit this game, no other gameplay come close to GW2 in term of fluidity, I tried them all except Archeage, but I think I’m about done with MMO, they are just quick cash grabs now. Good people with good intention comes out with great project, but ends up selling out because they can’t affort the developement.

To anyone who says there isn’t enough people doing dungeons, with an unofficial dungeon tournament stream we got about 2k viewers at peak. As much as GW2 official PvP tournament, with advertisement everywhere for weeks. There is definitely a crowd for dungeons, the only reason we won’t see anything is because it wouldn’t bring any income.

Trice.4598

Entirely disappointing.

A few thoughts:

1. Let’s examine the monetization aspect. The argument runs something like this: if dungeons don’t make ANET money, they won’t spend time developing them.

It’s a pretty good argument, and it seems the living world casuals who like to spam talk with 100 people at a party three times/character buy enough crap from the gem store to keep that content at the forefront.

What I don’t understand is the PvP focus though. I mean, besides some finishers, what content are the PvPers buying that makes that game mode worth $150k tournaments? I mean the dungeon tournament DnT held had more viewership than many of the PvP tournaments.

Lastly, I had really hoped GW2 was going to go the expansion route, and that this new map couldn’t possibly be the only thing the team was seriously working on. Again though, the GW1 model must not have been as profitable as the gem store model. It’s a shame really. At least from a pure numbers game, I’ve purchased the box and maybe $10 in gems (can’t remember if I bought my riding broom with real money or with gold) since launch. In the first two years of GW1 I had bought what, the original game and all three expansions? So nearly 4x the amount of money that I’ve spent on this game. I think it’s a shame that my play style, and presumable OUR play style, is in the minority.

2. Dungeon content is better because it makes me actually think, at least relative to living world or open world content. The zerg event focus of open world is mind numbingly boring. The open world farming meta of spam staff guardian 1 is mind numbingly boring. The living world content is interesting MAYBE the first time through but has little replayability in my eyes. The reason I prefer dungeons is that each player matters, and it requires an effort of coordination amongst group members to complete. Hard coordination? No, definitely not. But some is required to make things run smoothly, and that something is better than none. The great jungle wurms and Teq are probably the open world exceptions to this rule, and I think they’d make great instanced content, but what makes them a drag in my mind is the huge ramp up of AFK time necessary to get into a decent map. Who wants to AFK for longer than the duration of the fight just to participate?

3. Given the above, I am going to enter my second hiatus. Not that anyone cares, but I simply don’t have a desire to play right now, and I won’t be back until something else piques my interest. To those of you I’ve pugged and grouped with over the last few years, thanks for the fun and I hope I see you in game somewhere down the road. For now, adieu.

Yes, totally forgot how much viewers we got for the tournament, almost 2k at peak, now tell me that ArenaNet don’t want to invest in a mode that doesn’t attract people. If we got 2k viewers for an unofficial tournament, the dungeon crowd is definitely there. The only reason we won’t get anything is because it doesn’t create any income for them.

GW2 is like an hotel that advertise a “pool” and “continental breakfast” but all you get is a gross pool and a muffins. The game has so much potential, but they are not exploiting half of it. There is so many goo suggestion everywhere, but it’s been ignored, hell the dungeon subforum didn’t get a single reply in a year, a whole kitten year.

Living story is great, I like it, but if it’s all we get, I rather get regular content, no matter how much they improved the quality of it since LS 1, at least we were getting other things. I feel like the content every 2 weeks give them an excuse to be mediocre, when they said TA aetherblade path was too much work, I died a little inside.

I’m going to quote skylight when he said “people basically have to create their own content” players makes this game better than it really is.

At least warrior have useful signets, with goo active (most of them) and benefit the different warrior’s build

Awesome advice! Thanks soooo much!

@FzeroWing: I actually figured that out last night, buying the full set w/ karma. I think I have the karma to do it, or close to it. Is there any reason NOT to? Is karma used for anything else? Part of the fun of doing dungeon runs is to get the tokens to buy the gear, so if I already have an exotic set then the drive to do dungeons is lessened. What do you all think of me buying an exotic zerk set with karma? Or, should I buy a rare set and then run CoF for the Flame Legion set (looks cool).

As for weapons, should I just buy the best sets I can afford from TP? Is there another way to get exotic weapons besides crafting and TP?

What about accessories? Should I buy rare and do fractals until I can buy ascended? Should I buy exotic? Is there another option I should consider? I have like 30something laurels, idk how many you need for an ascended set or if I should be spending them on something other than accessories.

As for builds, I’ve worked on two. I’m going to try to do D/D and S/P, and see if I can’t do alright with D/D. If not, I’ll go SB. In any case, I have:
1) This one that focuses on precision/fury
2) This one that focuses on dodge/might

The only differences between them are the food and runes. Or should I just be getting ruby? I think I like #1 more due to the synergy of fury/quickness.

Clearly there is a LOT more to this than I realized. Thoughts on all this? Thanks SO much!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rare equipment could help you start, I also think that rune of rage are very good for low budget, my suggestion would be, buy rare armor with superior rune of rage, exotic weapons. Try to get as many ascended accessory from your laurel (I suggest buying the necklace first, they are cheaper if you have a couple badge of honor, get them in WvW)

Also, as good as superior of energy is, you already have a lot of dodge with the build you are running (I prefer your first build) and they are extremely expensive. Superior rune of night is cheaper and very useful in most dungeon (5 out of 8 dungeons, also the most runned dungeon)

You can also use superior sigil of frailty, very cheap and very strong/useful.

Once you start running dungeon, you will start gettting a lot of gold, that’s when you change to exotic armor with Scholar rune.

TL;DR

Rare armor with Superior rune of Rage are a very cheap and efficient solution to begin with (full set for ~4 gold)

Exotic weapons with superior sigil of force + night or frailty, this might be too expensive, you can start by buying the weapon first and later the expensive rune.

Rare trinket for now, slowly work your way to ascended, rings from Fractal of the mist, Amulet from WvW vendor (20 laurel + Badge of honor) and earring from Guild mission vendor.

My best advice to get you started with dungeon, join this guild ( they o not require you to rep ) https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-Mentors-Noob/page/18#post4316443 they have dedicated teacher who will take you and teach you. Also watch video guide from youtube, lots of them, make sure they aren’t too old though. Don’t forget in GW2 the right set of armor will not make you good, you need to be careful and learn the mechanics involve.

The only time I die is trying to res other players. Well that and walking off cliffs sometimes.

Oh god forgot that one, whenever someone is down I always try to res, which would be successful in 90% of the case if at least one other person helped me, however, no one EVER bother to res. Group res are sooooo much more efficient, takes 1 second, and you have 1 more person to help. Of course if the person just can’t stay up for more than 1 second, I won’t bother ressing after though.

Also some bosses in HoTW but not many people do them anyway.

What about Mossman? :C

Forgot about Fractal XD, fractals are differents, using FGS for boss like mossman or archdiviner was actually a huge challenge in higher levels an could save a lot of time. at least we won’t have to deal with bad ele who all they know is how to drop a weapon (and takes too long to drop it, and the boss is already mid fight)

There is 3000 different events they could complete, and if they wanted to complete this one, they could easily complete it on another map by taking 2 seconds. This is not about wanting to complete a useless event. Heck getting into one of those megaserver takes forever, you don’t just end up in them, you join them.

Often people will explain to players what is going, and how it can be a nice thing, however you decided it would be more fun to just ruin it for everyone. Also, don’t tell me you did it because you wanted to complete the event. If you really care you could have taken 2 seconds to find a map with no farm on it, there is 10 blixx farm lfg at any time, you could join one and leave your megaserver, I bet you did the complete opposite.

^ I’m not sure either how killing a boss before he does his attack is fun. But hey, I must be a casual.

There is usually more team coordination to kill a boss in 10 seconds than there is in killing one in 5 minutes. Efficient boss pulling, fast might blasting, Aegis, Deep freeze. When doing so, you usually trust your members to do their part, or it could end up in a wipe.

To be fair, it’s not the short fight duration I think is fun, but rather the way people o it. Faster kill is just a side effect, I wouldn’t mind longer fight.

It was good, about 30g/hour. Except that unlike SE you could just jump in and have fun. But white knight kittens prefer seeing it nerfed when they won’t even be doing Jofast…

Also Trice, I farmed it live on sundays and made that 30g/hour, before you start claiming bullkitten :p

I liked the last LS update, but it sucks that all we get is an hour-ish of entertainment then back to grinding the same stuff that we’ve been doing since launch. In that aspect it hasn’t really changed since the first season. At least that hour is entertaining this time.

Anet claim that they listened to us about the “temporary problem” of the Living World season 1 by making content permanent, however, that wasn’t the whole problem, we want repeatable content with adequate rewards, some of the instance have been interesting but after doing them 4 times (for achievements because you can’t do them all at the same time) and no getting real reward, why should we ever revisit them?

It would also be nice if those repeatable weren’t always open world, Dry Top farming is somewhat ok, but I hate relying on a 75 persons group to be efficient. Hell, I hate having to rely on 5, if only dungeon had a “solo” option with better rewards.

kitten , need to step up my Lupi RNG game I see.

That 74-no-swamp roll though… omg. What the hell even are the odds of that happening? I’m not sure if there’s an equal percentage chance of rolling it as the other options are but it sure as hell doesn’t seem like it. Harpy + Ascalon by far seem like the most common rolls.

Just read that, and remembered, back when we had to get a kite basket in Cliffside, I rolled for 35 minutes non-stop, nobody ever believed me.

I can’t be the only one who actually cried reading this “One change we’re excited to tell you about is Spirit Bow’s command ability, which will now heal in a targeted area rather than just around the bow itself.”

I mean… is this real life? am I being film for a “trueman show” there is no way, no way this is serious. THEY ARE KITTEN EXCITED ABOUT THE MOST USELESS CHANGE IN HISTORY OF LIFE. I’ll be on top of SAB for the next 2 hours, crying myself to sleep.

As a full nomad’s AH guardian, I’m pretty kittenin excited m8.
I can now heal even more effectively!

See, I know this is sarcasm, coming from my favorite charr (we should totally ERP) and I’m still mad. THIS IS NO LAUGHING MATTERS. THEY ARE kittenING EXCITED.

I just don’t want to accept that this excitement is real T_T

Let’s all cry together in this time of sorrow.

P.S. I’d like to note that the asura in the background looks like he’s done with my kitten.

Sadly, this is what MMO have become, a quick cash grab. “Cash shop” are turning MMO into a real joke. In GW2 first years I spent around 300$ on gems store, and I was glad to do it, I haven’t in the last year, I feel that what they are releasing is not worth my money.

Someone stated in another thread how I feel about GW2. At this point, we all know what GW2 should have been, what it is and what it will never be. Every update I am disappointed, because they could do much better with what they have. I stay, because this game has so much potential but I’m tired of hoping.

Do you want to know why MMOs in general do worse than expected, almost universally?

Because all MMOs face similar problems. It’s so easy to say stuff like, what an MMO could have been. Having never made one yourself, it’s easy to say they could have done better. But if someone could have done better, why is no one actually doing better? That’s the real question.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s harder than it looks to make a AAA MMO.

Because doing better wouldn’t bring as much profits? I’m not asking for AAA, when they make a complete armor set and just throw it in gems store, because it’s an easy cash grab, maybe once in a while, just maybe, make some quick content for us to obtain it otherwise?

And please , don’t tell me it’s hard to make a “build save” option, or queue system to “join in” or fix most of the problem dungeons have. For god sake, it took them 1 year to fix the -10% damage on potion to actually reduce instead of adding 10%.

It is hard to make a build save option and anyone who says otherwise, doesn’t get programming at all. If the game wasn’t written for it originally, it needs to be reworked which can break other things if you don’t do it very carefully. They’re working on a build save template now. We know they are.

Fixing dungeon problems? There are many of them. Every time they fix one people find exploits that break something else. Most people find a way around the problems, but again, do we know what percentage of the player base actually runs or cares about dungeons? I’m guessing it’s a lot lower than you think.

Making the game better means different things to different people.

I do get programming, and if you think a build template would be hard, you’re the one who doesn’t, Fact : it doesn’t take 2 years. Anyway, I’m done arguing with you for the simple fact, I have disagree with EVERY posts you have ever made on this forum so it would be pointless.

Edit : Of course company wants to make money, but I remember when game actually meant something to their developers. Why not just put Legendary directly in gems store, for 8000 gems, and ascended armors/weapons while removing them from the game otherwise, that would make them some more money.

I hate the atmosphere these “trains” usually bring with them.

You mean a group of people working together for a goal?

Even if 99% of the player in a given map want the event to fail and the last 1% want it to succeed, you have no legitimate reason to oppose them. Remember : the game prefers events to succeed rather than to fail.

Thus the 1% is “right” and the 99% are “wrong”.

If 100% of the map want to farm, have fun.

I don’t mind people willing to do an event for legitimate reasons, but that’s not what is happening, people are only doing the event to grief other players, I tried to understand the logic behind troll/people who grief, however there is no logic behind stupidity.

I want to point out, I don’t think this is how it should be, but seeing how almost nothing in this game reward adequately, players find whatever they can.

If anet would give a certain amount of champion boxes for succeeding an event, depending on the length of it, those farm wouldn’t be so interesting.

I don’t like the design much, but kitten was fun to make, finally something I feel like I accomplished, and tying the living story to it was a really good move.

Please Anet, use this for future content, this is how I want my scavenger’s hunt

LOLOLOL. Because the devs intended people to fail events when they designed the DE system right? Ye. There used to be an Orr farm like this 9-10 months ago where people purposely failed an event south of meddlers waypoint. The devs fixed that event specifically for the reason that players were failing it to get huge amounts of loot. I remember those days, I remember trolling that event so hard to purposely make it succeed since thats the way its actually supposed to be done.

Acknowleges that he trolls for the sole purpose of kittening people off. GG.

Plus DR kicks in after two hours so where’s the issue ? Are you mad that people actually make money in this game and not you ? Stop that.

And for Vayne, this isn’t a bannable offense to fail the event. The only thing that’s wrong is ANet in not having a longer queue for the event restart, thus making it farmable.

Its exploitative, thats all that needs to be said. This happened before in the game once, and was patched. It will again. Just admit what you are doing it wrong. Tell me with a straight face that events were meant to be failed on purpose repeatedly?

I wouldn’t say events were meant to be failed, but they’ve often been designed with failure being an option since a number of events result in a different chain of events with failure.

In this particularly case though, I’d say the biggest fail is a design fail in that if the rewards are that significant rather than completing the chain of events, the reward system in game is not where it should be. Same with the SoE champ farm, it’s more rewarding to kill the three champ golems over and over than it is to actually completely the path.

Do I need to find quotes for you people to prove its not intended by the devs? People are trying to maneuver their way out of the fact that its exploitative lol. It doesn’t mean you will get banned, people didn’t before with the old event farm that theyd fail intentionally
.

Why would I get banned? I haven’t set foot in Orr for over a year now….

I disagree with it being an exploit, granted I have slightly more faith in the dev team than for them to have made a giant over sight about their event chains and mechanisms that have been in place and played for two years now…..if it is an over sight though I feel less secure about this game, two years is a long time to miss something that’s pretty obvious….

Okay well dont call it an exploit but let me show you a video of a dev specifically saying they dont want what you are doing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy7CcwnfUdU 25:00, start there. lol there you go.

That’s exactly what people have been trying to say. It may not be what Dev had in mind, but they don’t mind it, they will however push us in other direction by changing what they think is unfit.

Colin just said its not what they want so of course they will change it lol. I can’t believe you are going to such great efforts to defend failing an event to grind gold.

And I can’t believe you’re doing the same to make us look like the bad guys. Colin state he likes when people gather and work together, are you going to blame the 74 people teaming up for farming, or the one guy, who doesn’t actually give a d kitten about the event but want to upset people. I think Colin would support the 74.
