alot of people dont seem to understand that Anet never intended for people just to be able to spike everything to the ground and that the idea was that people would form more of a soft trinaty.

so with Spike Dammage Builds getting the Nerf alot of them need (kittenOP timewarp)) servivabulity play’s a much bigger role.

so somthing like pet’s ressing downed player’s working now is kinda a big deal.

We all care about this game, in one way or another. Enough to come here and criticize and complain in the hopes that it gets better. It gets nasty when people get ignored, continuously, for months. That’s when the nails come out.

The problem is that people are often wrong. They get upset when they’re told they’re wrong. And they get upset when they’re ignored.

I know half the people posting on this board think they know the game better than the developers, but few of them even understand – fully understand – their own class. Sure, they might know how to play a build or two, but how many posters in the profession sub-forums give the impression they really understand their profession on a deeper level than “the website said to take these skills, those traits, and run that rotation”? And of those, how many give the impression the even care about – let alone understand – their profession’s balance against all others in PvE, PvP, and WvW? From my experience, not very many.

So what you are saying is… all the rangers complaining about their class should shut up and learn to play? I think thats a little unfair, seeing as how someone else can play a warrior and literally faceroll anything this game has to offer. No need to understand anything better than the devs there.

you do know part of way the warriors could face role was because of the Quicknis skill that was nerfed right??? ((that and the food that was nerfed last patch))

and that Ranger’s got a few fix’s this patch.

It’s hard to see the community as shortsighted when we just got yet another weapon-skin-in-chest.

Putting some weapon skins into actual gameplay would be nice, so maybe you should be talking to Anet about this?

I must be the only person on the planet who doesn’t really care about getting the OMG SHINY NEW SKINS, because the whole time I was reading this thread I just thought you all were a little kitten

You don’t pay a sub, so they offer RNG for (typically) very ugly skins in hopes that large numbers of people freak out and buy tons of keys.(success).

Are you really bothered that much by what other people have/do when it has no effect on the gameplay whatsoever?

I dunno, maybe I just have more sense than the average person.

No most of the average player’s dont come to the forums. because much like you they also dont care about skins all that much

So many posts seem to imply that the current system is just mindlessly DPSing.

How would a trinity system improve that? 2/3rds of the trinity was mindless DPSing and mindless healing. All 3 aspects just came down to perfecting a rotation and spamming it over and over. If the current system is mindless, the Trinity would be just as mindless. The only difference is the Trinity would highly favor certain classes, whereas only speed-runners favor certain classes with the current system.

If you want to tank in GW2 you can make a control-heavy class and use that, but instead of just standing toe-to-toe with a boss and mindlessly spamming the same rotation, GW2 has a more reactive system. You need to think on your feet.

A reactive system? All you have to do is dodge. CC’s are a joke, interrupts rarely work, and plate-wearing professions are resorting to ranged attacks.

That’s not a “system.”

They are heading in the right direction with this soft trinity, but when they say I can run a “control” build, how about letting me actually control something for more that 2 seconds and then having to wait another 45 seconds in order to use that control?

You are right its so much better to stick to old stereotypes forever. Heavys using ranged attack, THE SACRILEGE!
Also, game is designed around fast-phaced action so short control skills are well balanced as they are. Besides, if you think you got control build with 2 sec skill with 45 sec cooldown you are doing it wrong.

Ah, you’re one of those people…build strawmen then knock them down.

Should’ve tossed in a “go back to WoW” for good measure, maybe.

Strawmen….. I do not think that word means what you think it means…..

@Vayne

I agree that there is definitely some synergy, such as combo fields. Although, that synergy is basically the design of the developers. In GW1 you could find synergy that was never intended – although sometimes it did create imbalance.

One of the things that makes GW2 less deep or complex is that very rarely do you need to look beyond your weapon skills and a heal or two to complete 80% of the encounters in this game. So, while there may be more depth that exists than we know, the game was designed so casual friendly that you never really need it to win.

Basically, there is very little need of cooperative team play in GW2, especially compared to GW1.

so this is why you could beet most content with some Bots to help you out in GW1 right… because it was so deep and complex…

They probably have a steady population going. There’s no way in heck they’d ever reveal how many people there are right now, but it would be safe to assume that it is substantially less than 3 million.

even with the game already selling 3 million copys we also know that the game is STILL selling copy’s I work in the elactronics department of my store and i just had to restock the GW2 copys last week, of which we already sold a few.

than there’s also the sells that Anet has and that most Downloud things like MMO ((or PC game’s )) now days

and my guild also has a few players that have only been playing a few weeks now, so there’s also that.

AND i also see “new player need help” in both map chat and on the forums all the time.

Monk-style class?

UnderdogSMO.9428

Will GW2 ever get a monk-style class? Unarmed combat?
I’d love to play a Shaolin monk styled fighter

……this isnt WoW. maybe they will get something similar, like a martial arts class, with cool looking hand/arm weapons, but yea not a monk, this game has pride as far as i can tell.

You do realize the Monk class has been around long before WoW right? Stop comparing things to WoW just cause WoW has it. WoW wasn’t the first you know.

On topic, I wouldn’t mind a Monk class. Especially with the style of combat mechanics GW2 utilizes, it would fit in nicely. I would like to see something like the DDO Monk though. I think they did a nice job with the Monk.

this is true, but you do understand that the monk class just came out and BOOM here you have it, an idea referencing something that WoW has. it made me laugh. when you like a game over another, but you see that other game has a cool new feature you want the game you like to have it too. lol thats where my comment originated from.

GW1 had a monk class dude. >_> way befor wow…. thats why you see monks in AC

Guesting and Dragon Chest Limits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: UnderdogSMO.9428

UnderdogSMO.9428

Hi all,

Been hearing of an issue with people guesting & causing overflows & the possibility of limiting Dragon chests to one a day.

I don’t mind limits to avoid people taking advantage of the system, but don’t penalize the normal player because of the activities of some.

I don’t guest, no need of it. I play only one server with my team. To limit me to only one dragon chest a day is obnoxiously short sighted. We have only a limited amount of stuff to do at the high end, DON’T limit it further.

What’s the solution? Limit people who guest on other servers to one chest per day per account on other servers, NOT everyone on the server! DUH! Don’t limit my teams high end gameplay.

Please make a good call on this one.

Limit Guesting, not people on their main server!

Thanks,

Sighz…the reason guesting wasn’t nerfed is because it wasn’t guesting. It is the own home server players who are causing the overflow. Just because people all blame guesting doesn’t make it the issue. In reality, there is only a small amount of guest who actually make it to the event. Let I remind you, guest are put in overflow as a priority.

Lafiel, do you have a link to an Anet Dev saying any of this?

In my opinion, things haven’t been that bad with the exception of lag… Instead of limiting the chest to once per account per day, I would prefer a different solution.(of course, in large part because I play many alts :P)

It seems that an overflow server solution with world bosses would be better and easily implemented.

its been one rare item per charicter per day for a few weeks now. there changing it so its now one rare per acount per day because people were just parking alts at events in order to farm them.

I am disappointed with this update.

If a small guild can earn enough influence to get to Art of War 3, then 2,700 influence every 3 days (72 hour build time) doesn’t do much to help. Without the new currencies or any decent rewards from the boss itself there isn’t any reason to do these “training missions”.

I just wish they hadn’t tied ascended gear to this in any way. Adding more currencies, more daily/weekly/raids/etc. just smells like the games I came here to avoid. Then making it accessible only to the “hardcore” and massive guilds is a bit of a kick in the newts to the rest of us.

You can get the same ascended gear from getting dailys and monthly done. Yes it takes longer but what do you expect when trying to do everything on your own. If one thing is clear its that this game dose everything to try and reward you for working to gather, even the small stuff like big chunks of exp for ressing others.

As customers, we have every right to so called “disrespect” who designed Rox. Every character in every game can and will be criticized. Saying that a thread should be deleted is implying that people should not be allowed to express their criticism of Rox. With that being said, deciding to change what you gave your customers in the first place is not a good business practice, and mostly the reason why I will never be buying an Elder Scrolls game again.
Back more on topic, Rox is a disturbing looking character, and that’s what this thread is voicing. Charr should not look like creepy dolls, they should look like tough big cats.

Your opinion, and the others in this thread are 100% arbitrary. There’s no constructive criticism and that’s what makes this thread irrelevant.

It’s not a matter of denying voice. It’s a matter of establishing value, something that can actually help Anet and thus benefit us in the long run. None of that is in this thread.

telling them that the problem seems to be the eyes and that shrinking them down ((which is possible)) would go a long way in making her look better isn’t constructive???

It also lets them know even if they dont change her big old anime eye’s now that we dont like it and maybe they wont do it to a charr again

  • OMG THANK YOU FOR ….. what exactly ?

And a mountain that disappeared… That’s exciting! Or… No it’s not!

New Hearts/Vistas and reset :
Hell YEAH …otherwise when you complete a MAP (which this game has only a handfull ) why would you EVER GO BACK ? New Vistas/Hearts and Map Completion rewards might make you want to go back ^^

Ok, so for example I have 4 chars and I really don’t want to complete map with any more chars then one… And after getting the reword for completing map they can’t just take it back. So I’m completing map only once(ie. one version of it). So what the other versions of hearts are good for?

People go back to places for rewords or other reasons! Not for some heart tasks.

The only mistake that ANet did was to make leveling so easy and fast. That’s why maps are underused.

2 Weeks :

  • there are more removed things then any here to stay things
  • here to stay things are completly useless

So I say that pleasing you is just impossible. Even if would get your disheartening mountain you would say: “Nah… useless”. What’s not? Give me a real example! Because your just keep saying something like: “make something that’s not useless”. Where is any constructive feedback in that?!

There’s plenty to do, but I’m just so disappointed that the changes aren’t what we need, or we get punished for taking advantage of the new loot system. Things will go back to the way it was before, Jormag taking an hour and only getting 1 rare at best a day.

I figured this out months ago after getting my 5th 80 and finishing gearing them out, got done with my legendary, and got to fractal level 50, that Gw2 endgame, is playing another game, and my whole guild feels that way, the “endgame” we have is just stale recycled mechanics we are used to (guild bounty’s etc are just glorified dynamic events), and no real elite area to keep the higher up players interested, not to mention the 5 party size limit on everything in the game makes it hard to play with a group of friends over 5 people, (someone always has to sit one out while wishing we had a 10 man or 8 man instance). in short I love gw2, but, something needs to be pulled out of the “expansion” bin they have of held back content to keep more hardcore players playing.

you talk as if guild bounty is the only thing to work for or do with guilds

from what i Understand Guild challenge is a much harder fight

I don’t think you truly understand what makes a guild a guild.…

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about what a guild is. Guild content, however, is designed to be about challenges that can only be overcome by working with other people. The new mission type is not intended to change that by circumventing the content that’s already in place. All it does it make it more accessible.

No Offense man, but 99% of the people in this game could pretty much care less about guild content, they want END GAME Content, this game has NONE. Thats why you are losing players!

Lol what do you think guild content is? Also fractals?

I don’t get it, either. People log inordinate hours blasting through content at breakneck speed and then sound both genuinely surprised when they find themselves burned out and genuinely disappointed to learn expansions aren’t usually released within 12 months of an MMOs launch.

I played an hour a two a day, a few days a week, and I got bored after about a month. Only reason I even visit the forums every now and again is to check if anything new is getting released because I am hoping to at least get my moneys worth of play time out of this game.

I think this would work better if insted of logging onto the forums you attempted to play differant parts of the game from time to time. Do some of the daily goles or something that may intorest you…. thay change

That’s why sandbox MMOs are better designed. Because they allow players to make their own content. Not sit and wait for developers to do everything.
Neverwinter for example has player made dungeons. So they will have unlimited amount of content. Never ending. Gw2 has finite. At some point people are going to get bored doing the same things over and over again. That’s why they want new play styles.

Hope neverwinter has a good way to filter all the kitten user made content out. EQ2 did this it didnt end well. Also its to easy to explote with user made stuff.

I think most of the player’s actually like having things to work for >_> it keeps them in the world and logging on. or that seems to be the case if you look around in game…..

Can you honestly tell me that you look forward to the time investment it will take to get multiple sets of ascended gear for one character/gear out multiple characters in ascended? So far, there’s only 5 slots that have ascended gear in them, with many more to come. At this rate, imagine how much time it will take when we have full sets of armor, weapons, accessories, even rebreathers.

It’s ludicrous.

And I reiterate, a small guild “working” towards Guild Missions is ultimately pointless the way they’re currently implemented.

I only just got my ascended Ring and an ascended trinket the other day. the next trinket i get will probably be from guild tokens.

and not one’s has not having ascended kept me from content ((or point of fact, Playing that content better than most)) on top of that with each new ascended (pack?) thay add more way’s to get the gear, making it easier and faster to get so by the time the full set dose come out its vary likely going to be much easyer for new players to get and I myself will already have most of it.

considering its only March and ascended has been confermed to be the only tear for this year I think i have plenty of time.

Greibach, very good post, and I suspect you’ll be told it’s “off topic,” but it’s really not. The whole ascended fiasco is beginning to pervade every aspect of the game, and the reliance on guild missions for the most efficient (although still entirely unreasonable) method of obtaining the new pieces is a major aspect of people’s discontent.

That being said…

Every guild can—so long as they research the appropriate upgrades, recruit enough members or outside assistance, and work together to finish the content. This is quite similar to saying every character can kill Zhaitan—as long as they’ve leveled to 80, purchased gear, found a group, etc. Keep in mind that content is often in itself something to be achieved. In this case we’ve taken that concept from character progression and applied it to guilds, and now we have guild progression (which should read as something new for guilds to do). That’s on top of all the other things guilds are already for.

But it’s not similar at all. What sense of achievement is there joining a large guild for the sole purpose of using them for rewards? Or grinding out influence as a small guild to be able to access this content, only to find it impossible to complete without outside help (and who would help? No one outside the guild gets rewards for it, so why bother?). With your Zhaitan example, it’s something that someone can achieve at their own pace (leveling and obtaining gear is not time-gated. Aside from ascended gear, as we’re coming to find out). Finding a grou kitten omething that can be done on-the-fly, doesn’t require any kind of extended association, and anyone who participates gets the reward.

The reward structure for Guild Missions (and laurels, and all ascended gear) is insulting enough. Inaccessibility of content for, I suspect, the majority of the player base, is just ridiculous.

I think most of the player’s actually like having things to work for >_> it keeps them in the world and logging on. or that seems to be the case if you look around in game…..

There’s a huge variety of content and rewards available in the game. And while some rewards can be attained several ways, others are reserved as merit for specific tasks. This is no different from dungeon armor, achievement titles, or the map-completion badge. Certainly we would never give you those things for completing guild content.

The difference here being that those rewards can all be gotten by soloing or teaming up with random people. Guild mission stuff is exclusive to the guild you are in. I don’t need anyone specific to achieve dungeons.

we did guild bounties with 7 people the other night.
It takes more luck, and it takes pre planning, but unlocking higher tiers is not undoable. I imagine that tier 1 guild trek also seems fairly doable by a 7-10 man group, guild rush im assuming yes but i have no idea.

lets be honest here. 10 people isnt a big an impersonal guild. The big guilds will get there faster, but now once you have both unlocked the same content, who are people going to prefer to hang with? probably who they would have prefered before. Essentially this is giving you the means to build your guild up to compete, though it may not be as fast, its definately more possible.

You must have missed my point. Let me try again: This update isn’t to help your guild. Your guild is already doing guild missions. I am a part of four guild and not a single one of them is anywhere CLOSE to unlocking guild missions. Why? Because most everyone doesn’t care that much. A couple people would like to do them. The rest are busy with roleplay, working on legendary farm, just trying to enjoy and hour or two of gameplay here and there, etc.

This update will help the couple of us that want to do this missons finally have the influence to do so, yes. But we still won’t be able to actually complete the missions themselves. I’m going to do everything I can to get my guild to run these, but I don’t have high hopes. The addition of new skins is the only thing driving me to even TRY.

you ever think your just not a good fit with any of the guilds your in. I mean why be in a guild if there not intorested in the same type of content you are???

my close nit mid sized guild runs about everything.((and we run it together)) I dont have to worry about any one dropping from my guild even though its takeing us longer to unlock missions, just because we are all so close ((well as close as a video game will let us be))

So do people still get guild commendations or no? ~-~ They only covered half the possible rewards…

EDIT: Answer is a no. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Rejoice-Small-Guilds-Guild-Mission-Blog-Post/first#post1682270

what are you talking about, its true you dont get the same rewards but you do get a hole bunch of influance now, that you can use to save up for the real bountys and such. 3000 Guild Influence. Much much faster and more reilistacly than it use to be for small less active guilds

Looks like he’s a guardian. He appears to be standing in some kind of symbol (if he’s using a mace he has one). If that’s true it will be interesting to see norn characterised as a guardian. I always saw guardians as pious and dedicated to others whereas norn always seem like belching brutes obsessed with their prowess in combat and creating their legend. I’d really like to see ArenaNet’s take on a norn guardian as a main character. It certainly fits the theme of him staying behind to help out the refugees, that seems like something a guardian would do.

If he fallows Wolf it would make sence, the feeling of working together and its his role to protect the pack

Poor girl. That’s okay Rox, I’ll be her friend! Both Dinky and I. <3

I definitely think something is off about her eyes, but I don’t see why anyone should look down upon ‘cute’ or any other types of options Anet decides to add. Charr are much more diverse than most believe them to be. If they weren’t, Anet wouldn’t have allowed this gal to look the way she does. They are the people who created the entire race after all. Even then, we may never see her features ourselves if kept exclusive to the character. Which would be a shame in my opinion, as I cannot understand the downside in more variety. If her face were to be made into a character option, you could always adjust it to be more bestial. Besides, It’s not like it will break your game and affect how your own character will look if somebody else chooses to be what is ‘cute’ or ‘ugly’ in your opinion. Everyone has their own preference. It’s clearly portrayed in this thread. There are some players here who absolutely love the big horns and/or eyes, others believe they should be kept to males only or not be in the game at all.

I think the big problem is that Charr’s more cat like fechers more often look like Big cat’s (lion tager leperd ETC) this looks like the face of a house kitten.

that said i still think its the GOO GOO anime eyes that F her face up so bad at take “cute” to that stupid level. shrink the eyes down a little bit and she would still be “cute” but not so silly looking.

This game is very alt unfriendsy.

I reccomend you just run a main with maybe a single other char and wait for Anet to hopefully make it more alt friendly.

Eh, it’s quite alt friendly in my opinion. It really depends how you define alt maybe? I see alt as something which is second to your main character. i.e. my main will always be the one geared first and most well geared. My alts will have good gears but not have the newest top of the line goodies straight off release. Personally, i’ve been able to gear at least 3 of my alts with ascended accessories and full exotics ( and different exotic armor sets/weapons for different situations. The only thing my alts don’t have is the ascended amulets and maybe the fractal capacitor. my last 2 level 80s are currently still in the progress but it is by no means hard to gear an alt appropriately with exotics. The total cost is usually around 20-30g in gold to gear in exotics and maybe 1 week of dungeon runs if you don’t want to buy the exotic armor. You can also get most accessory type items via karma merchant which I have in abundance.

Assuming you love to run fractals all the time its not so bad. If you dont however love to run fractals all the time and need to use the heavily gated and super alt unfriendly laurel system it will take you over a year and closer to two years to earn enough larels to outfit all your toons with ascended accessories, and thats assuming you just use the 5 provided slots it will take longer if you have more toons.

And they havent added ascended armor/weapons yet, when they do i could easaly see it taking 5+ years to outfit all alts using laurels.

what if your useing both Laurels and Guild tokens???? Hell when a guild has all the missions unlocked you could get an 1 acended a week.

This is assuming you are in a large guild, which i am not.

well who’s fault is that. ((and my guilds not large ether but we all enjoy working together for a gole))

Just FYI ((and i know its just a name )) But you are playing a game Called ->GUILD< – War’s.

and dont kid yourself even without acended gear there are huge advantage’s to being in a good guild. ((such as not needing to buy most mats or most exotic gear and almost alway’s heaving a reliable group to run stuff with. as well as info about whats going on in parts of the game you may not be in. ))

I would prefer to play with my RL friends rather than be a nameless number in a large guild, and i dont believe the players should be punished for making such a choice.

your also very naive, you are in no way being forced to do it, you can still earn all the things, it will just take you ((and your guild)) much longer. your not being Punished your just not being rewarded.

“rewarded for what?” cooperation. its kinda a big thing in this game……

did you know runing with 1 other guildy only nets you 20 influance. but runing with 3 gets you 100… why do you think that is

Not really.
If your only definition of alt-friendly is “getting ascended gear in a timely fashion” then I suppose I would agree with you.
But since getting ascended gear on all characters isn’t really all that important…
It’s not hard to gear out all characters in exotics, and get a few of them into ascended every few months.
What’s the hurry really? On a tight schedule?

If you WvW it’s important to have competitive gear. 10% stat difference and up to 20% performance difference is fairly large. Easily make the difference between killing and dying.

For PvE… doesn’t matter… but a decent group can beat the vast majority of PvE in rares without much issue… so I don’t really include that in my thoughts about this subject.

I wouldn’t mind ascended if there were just more ways of obtaining it. I don’t like fractals… so I’m limited to the laurels which is very slow.

On top of that my build on any character could easily get nerfed. I can’t do anything with the old ascended gear… so I would have to start all over on whichever gets nerfed whenever. The more alts, the higher the chances of a nerf to one of them.

In WvW how often are fights fair?
And who cares if they’re fair.
It’s designed to be unbalanced.
WvW isn’t about 1v1 anyways.

If it’s important enough to you, use your character that’s in ascended gear in WvW until you get your other characters decked out?
You’re basing your argument on “maybe my character will get nerfed, so make ascended gear easy to acquire so I can pretend to be balanced on an alt character in an unbalanced gamemode”

With the imbalances wouldn’t it behoove you to at least be on par with your opponents gear wise? My alts can’t be because of how one can currently obtain ascended gear. That makes me want to roll fewer alts. Sorry if you don’t like WvW… but that’s the only reason many people play still this game. I sPvP as well btw ^^

So put your ascended gear on the character you WvW with mostly?
This sounds like a ‘you’ problem.

So your argument against my thoughts about how this game discourages people to have alts… is that I shouldn’t want to be able to be as competitive with alts in WvW? Wat?

You mostly WvW, WvW is important to you, you claim to need to be ‘on par’ with other people in WvW for ‘balance’ reasons…
And you go and put ascended trinkets on characters you don’t WvW with and you complain about your alts not having ascended gear for WvW.

What???

Huh? Who said I don’t WvW with alts? I would just like those alts to be able to have the same ascended gear as my main… ascended discourages me from making more alts or using the ones that don’t currently have the gear. I don’t see where you’re getting any of this and I’m inclined to agree with Rukia… so good day sir ^^

Man your really going to dislike the 26th when character bound WvW trate’s come into play.

P.S. I prefear to pay a monthly fee and have an epic gaming experience like World of Warcraft, than play for free and get bored in a month.

If we’re just too casual for you, well… bye.

You are leaving? Bye, I won’t miss you

btw, a monthly fee is both beneficial for company and players. They get more profit, we get more content and this is undisputed.

how much content did wow get between the last expantion and MOP????

yeah…..
