Oh also when you start Dungeon runs lern and understand what combo Fields do

I often run with a necro that sets down a field that Give’s me life steal when I go range. so if i need to heal up real quick and she puts that field on the ground, i role back use my rifle burst shot heal up real quick stealing health from my target ((by shooting through said field)) than jump right back in with my sword

I play more of a tanky build with Sword/shield for my main wepon set

I use Tough/Power/Heal gear ((with a little condition/vit mixed in)) 2 shouts (shake it off and for grate justice)) and my shouts Heal, the healing signat, Franzy for fast burst Dammage.
and i often use battle standerd when im in a group for the rez

basicly as I fight im also healing myself ALL THE TIME.

you should also know that being Tanky ((as you can never be an actual tank in this game)) is much easyer to do when you reach max level and can REALLY focus on your build and what you want to do , than get gear that fits that role. Mace and shield are grate for this as you get 3 stuns

also you should know that Healing Power is actualy GRATE for some one who wants alot of survivability, you kinda need to mix up your skills in this one Min Maxing is not optimal for everything in this game

Pve isnt dead but not as popuar as wvw fotm and dungeons also lions arch dwellers.

I feel bad for all the engineers necromancers in etc i come across in pve because im just thinking to myself “You shouldnt have chose that class nobody will accept you unless you’re guardian warrior or sometimes thief” Not saying i wouldnt accept em i dont judge professions im just saying a high amount do.

I main a Necro and play FoTM and other dungeons every day. Never had a single issue with anyone complaining about my class. Not sure why you would think people do.

As for PvE being dead, I have NFI what your talking about. I can’t go two minutes without running into people everywhere I go. Sure there are is a bigger spread going to WvW and dungeons, but there are still people everywhere. I can only guess that maybe its the server you are playing on.

Tarnished coast friend. And you are one of few then who dungeon with no problem i commonly and i mean it strongly commonly see people hosting games and restricting anyone but guardians or warriors.

I wont say your wrong but im on TC as well and i see plenty of people that dont have restrictions. But than im also in a guild that dungeon runs (as well as all other content) and if we need a few pugs we dont discriminate.

But than are guild leader is also a necro and she has the most servivabuilaty of any one i have ever seen

they should make bosses have less HP, but more DMG (not with 1 spell, but just more dmg over time).
example: bosses puts major load of conditions on everyone, your team needs to group up and AoE clean conditions, if you don’t, you die. simple. And that’s teamwork.

so… the games progression is in 5man instances?

and if the games sole purpose is pvp…. why is there even pve?

im confused..

guess you cant please everyone but… still this is an mmo but the pve is broken?

great now im more confused…

I ask the same question, I don’t like it at all either; but it is unfortunately the way it is, fastest way to make gold and easiest way to gain exotics is in dungeons. And the only way to gain ascended is in a single dungeon.

However, I do think it’s getting better. Ascended gear should be available in more places within the next few months, and Colin Johansen stated that the big patches coming in Feb/March will principally be improvements on the existing zones to give players reasons to play in the open world again.

i get what you are saying… im the kinda mmo player who could care less really about end game grind

i liked the ascpect of meeting new people and just having a blast doing whatever.. or helping other players …

i think they should let legendarys precursors drop from pve off any mob.. super high chance though…

would draw alot of people to it …. AGAIN JUST MUSING….NOT SUGGESTIONS MOD!

i could see people saying botters blah blah blah.. would ruin it blah blah blah…

thats the devs problem.. well not really since the stupid economy in this game

but other mmos did just great with out price fluctuations that would make the real world stock market eat a bullet…

blah.. im just ranting now..

Get onto a good guild man If your ever on the TC sever look me up I got a hell of a guild and I’m always looking for more good people to play with (( you don’t exactly have to be the best player))

As a GW1 player, GW2 is not for me

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

UnderdogSMO.9428

I can’t share the sentiment for Dark Souls. But I have sort of had the same feeling about GW2. Im not sure what Colin meant when he said “We took everything you loved about GW1…”, because the history is pretty much the only thing that has carried over.

Perhaps Anet did not really understand what people actually loved about GW1 and what kept them playing for seven years.

And this is coming from a huge fan. Over 900 hours in GW2 already, thousands of hours logged in on GW, and who knows how much money I’ve thrown at them.

I don’t think its a bad game by any means. But I do think design decisions were catered towards more mass market appeal and speedy/low impact content generation than they were to fans of the franchise.

GW2 did some innovative things within the mmo genre, it extends the story of Guild Wars, but it doesn’t feel anything like an evolution of its predecessor.

Oh they knew at the very moment Jeff and Patrick walked out the door. Everyone always speaks of GW2 innovation what innovation? DE’s done before, combat system nope, scaling nope, the lack of the holy trinity rather the disquise of there not being a trinity dungeon system but there is, nope this has all been done before. So what innovation has GW2 done for the mmo genre I really would like to know.

its true enough that other MMO game’s have done ONE of the’s things to some small dagree

GW2 is the first one to Try and utilize them all together and really PUSH it to the next level. making something that as a hole is over all unige to the genre.

Did it work? I and many others think so ((not all i know))

Dose it have problems? Yes it fix’s some old one’s and crate’s some new one’s to be solved. WoW and GW1 went through the same growing pains when they tryed to change things up years ago ((the market was less harsh back then. much less was expected from MMO’s))

I pretty much agree with every post here, the skill caps, the hundreds of skills you could use, made the game have strategy a bit like chess (what skills counter this part of the game etc), made playing the game fun, the builds you could make the dual classes you could play, honestly if Guildwars 1 populations were like GW2 i’m probably just go back..

They really should have said " We took everything WoW players loved about WoW" but that wouldn’t go down well here in my opinion..as not much came over in my opinion..

I guess the future will decide, i must wait and see.

To be honest WoW really has almost no similarities to this game.

- are perceived as breaking promises and core ideals
- having poor class balance which is getting worse
- release content patch after content patch with more and more bugs
- are perceived as not moving fast enough in improving the game and fixing issues
- appear to be funnelling players towards buying gems
- have one of the more unrewarding games around
- are perceived as screwing with players via anti player practices like DR

Just out of curiosity has the OP considered that the game just recently hit being more than four months old?

For five years ANet has been telling people that the game will be released when it’s finished. Yes, we all should have known better than to believe them. But we sure as hell have a right to harangue them for not living up to their promises.

Oh come off it.

any one who has ever been interested in MMO’s KNOW’s there never actualy “done” when they come out Anet has said it them self “MMO’s are service” the game was as done as it could be with the Cash they had and going by reviews and MOST players still holding a strong interest in it they provided us with a vary solid product.

not to mention an MMO can never truly be put through its pass’s until after its actualy in store’s (( do you have any idea how many people bought this game Day one because they had no interest in Beta’s))

Comparison is the most basic tool to differentiate the good from the bad. So you take something new and compare it with what one consider is the best to see if its better or not.

The problem is when you compare a 9 year game old with a 6- months old game. :P

So a game is not allowed to be considered better because it’s older? That’s some amazing logic, especially since the older game is doing better than the younger game in this case. I guess Doom is a piece of crap compared to Black Ops 2 now as well, or Final Fantasy 13 is better than Final Fantasy 6.

I can go on all day with this, but my basic statement is that you fail at logic.

When talking about MMOs its not exactly fare comparitavly EQ1 as considerd better than wow by many players when wow first lunched . Wow being the buggy instanced mess that it was it took a good year and ahalf befor it got its footing and most people didnt realy jump in untell BC

Game design question concerning dodge

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: UnderdogSMO.9428

UnderdogSMO.9428

But it is the only utility which benefits in such manner, that it can’t be expressed in numbers.

The whole battle system revolves around dodging, at least in PvE where almost every monster has one attack which requires you to dodge or to use CC to interrupt.

This means, that “skill” is only defined as the reaction test to use your 2 dodge and your 1-2 CC skills at the right moment. They could have replaced the whole “skill” system with only 4 buttons with separate cooldowns, at least for PvE, “dodge”, “interrupt”, “high DPS skills”, “heal skill” together with a slider to choose the cycling radius, being either 300, 600, 900 or 1200 units for full, 3/4, 2/4 or 1/4 damage received and dealt. Almost nobody would have noticed the difference.

Don’t get me wrong, it works almost as intended in PvP where you have short, intense battles and it’s all about dealing burst damage (which means you have to know your skills!), but in PvE it’s just broken, since most enemies are just huge health blobs (so burst won’t matter) and battles aren’t “short and intense” but rather “long and repetitive” so you are forced to take the same reaction test over and over again.

That has NOTHING to do with skill, thats just a torture until your concentration breaks and you miss a single (or maybe even 2) dodges / CC. It also causes all classes to play very similar in PvE, despite your choices. Some class mechanics like mesmer illusions or hunters pet make it slightly easier, but they don’t change the way it works. This system really hurts on those classes, where dodging is NOT the natural choice (e.g. all the caster classes).

But seriously, what did one expect? The system was broken, the moment they decided to create a system which should suite everything from solo gaming over equally balanced PvP up to zergs. Especially the first one was a bad decision, you can’t just make every single character able to play on the frontlines, without crippling the characteristic mechanics the original class had.

that’s more a problem with the PVE Mobs mechanics than it is With doge and CC it self

UnderdogSMO.9428

No tanks, no healers. Just DPS.

This couldn’t be more wrong, there is no true dps class, and anyone going glass cannon in dungeons is letting their team down, dungeons are as much about staying alive as they are about dps, on any class.

Yet…I often see “LF 3 more xxx, high dps”, but never saw “LF 3 more xxx, high survival”…

Makes it easy for me to know i don’t want to group with them. Most high DPS groups i have ended up in spend most of there time with there face in the mud and rez zerging. (Its true enough you can beet a dungeon that way but any one who runs in successful team focused groups will tell you its faster to do it right the first time. Also less repair cost))

they sold 2 million copies in the first 2 weeks. The real copies sold number is between 6 and 11 million. I don’t see that massive people shed and I haven’t met a single person that has quit GW2 besides those that come to complain on the forums.

This is outright false.

http://www.vgchartz.com/game/37350/guild-wars-2/

Even if we assume that every single one of the 2 million copies sold in the first two weeks is a digital copy and thus not counted among the above figures (which we know isn’t true), that still only totals to under 4 million copies sold.

And given that many of the copies in that 2 million overlap with the retail sales in the link above, it would be far more accurate to predict a conservative 3 million or so copies sold. Nowhere NEAR 6 to 11 million copies of GW2 have left the shelves.

We just sold out of copys AGAIN at my store.

And not to mention in November the game had the most digatel sell on green man gameing beeting out both AC3 and farcry. Than in December amazone had a sell and it was one of the top 5 sold products

So 6 to 11 mill may be an exaggeration the game is still selling really well (i in fact have two friends who just upgraded there PCs and will be picking it up in the next week or so (after payday))
