Disappointed that F&F ends w/ a dungeon

Hello! Thanks for starting this thread. :-)

As one of the designers for the Molten Weapons Facility, I would just like to say that one of our chief concerns throughout the development of Retribution was to address this very issue. We worked hard to ensure that the dungeon experience we have crafted is not simply possible to complete by groups of all different skill levels and compositions, but more importantly that it is lots of fun and rewarding for everyone. I understand the concerns about jumping into a 5-man instance if you’re more accustomed to solo play – in fact as a player I typically share those feelings, so rest assured that such concerns have been and continue to be addressed firsthand by our team!

Flame and Frost has so far made use of many of the different types of content available to players of Guild Wars 2. There have been open world dynamic events, solo instances, scavenger-hunts and achievements. In this case, with the culmination of Flame and Frost, given all the tools in our tool kit as developers, a 5-man instance was really the thing that made the most sense for us to pursue, as it enabled us to best tell the conclusion to this story arc in the way that we wanted.

We’re paying careful attention to this balance of content types, and the Living World teams will always strive to offer a variety of content to our players on a regular basis, and to make that content as compelling, and accessible, as possible.

Speaking personally, I hope you’ll join all of us on the Flame and Frost team and give the Molten Weapons Facility a try when it releases next week!

Frankly im glad its there and THe game needs more of it, MOST PEOPLE WANT IT. or why in the world would we be playing an MMO???

Dont you dare!

What happened to the good old days when content updates came with content rewards? Now we have to buy everything from the cash shop instead of earning it in the game (gold grind for gems ain’t exactly a fun way to reward content).

If GW2 keeps going down this road, a lot of people are going to be better off paying a monthly fee and getting access to all the content in addition to a rich a rewarding gameplay experience (instead of game content which is stripped down of rewards so they can instead be sold in the cash shop).

Agreed. this is my one BIG BIG grip with how the Gem store seems to be going, yes I know its not PTW but man it would shore be awesome to be able to ACTUALY WIN some of this stuff for doing content.

You can’t really have an opinion…

Sorry Vayne, that’s where you lost me. I couldn’t get over that statement and gave up reading the rest. That might be the dumbest thing someone has ever said.

You know your taking that out of context you should at least use the full quote.
You can have an opinion about any thing but its pointless if its base off of nothing. “I think rice is good because i like water” yes you have an opinion about rice but you have no reason for that opinion making its an non opinion.

I didn’t take it out of context. In no way am I not allowed to have an opinion, regardless of whether it is true or not. Especially, since none of us know what is true and what isn’t.

No your making this into a personal thing where you are evoking indignation to try to avoid the point that you have no reason for the way you think.
We KNOW that they made server bigger. Why do ppl think the game is losing ppl?

You don’t need to think the way I think. Nor, do you need to try to change the way I think. It’s my opinion. Yours isn’t any better than mine.

His fallows a more logical path.

Strange it’s a very fun joke and there is more gated content in that expansion than in this whole game. Pandas are almost as funny as diminishing returns and RNG.

I fixed that for you.

MoP embodies everything that is wrong in this genre, instead of innovation it just brings more mainstreaming.

Yeah they need to add a dungeon with old Atari graphics. That’s real innovation.

As a long time gamer and played wow countless hours i have yet to be impressed by blizzard as i have from arenanets creativity with super adventure box. Got sick of rehashed content and mop felt so unnew.

Yes but when I kill something in that game it drops something every time. It might be trash but it’s something lol.

oh wow, look at that new insert line of code here i bet that will really make you feel strong and not be completely worthless in less than a week.

its a game the only thing that matters is enjoying the content at hand, from moment to moment. I didn’t play all my old Nintendo game’s over and over again for the epic lootzzzz because in the end all that junk is worthless.

You play for lines of coding and I like loot. We just have different definitions of fun.

What exactly is "End Game"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: UnderdogSMO.9428

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess_endgame

In chess and chess-like games, the endgame (or end game or ending) is the stage of the game when there are few pieces left on the board.

Or basically, the point where one of the parties says GG and you start a new game (unless the endgame is not trivial). To play out a trivial endgame is considered bad mannered.

In MMOs however, it means exactly that. To keep repeating the same trivial content even though it has been beaten. And people wonder why MMO players are so bad mannered on average …

Chess =/= MMORPG

You’re one of those people who thinks the term Dungeon Finder means a tool that finds dungeons huh?

Game = game. If find it absurd how the meaning of endgame is completely different in MMOs compared to every other game. In Starcraft, you’re expected to say GG once a decisive position has been reached in the endgame. In Counter-Strike you say thanks once the game has been decided. In bridge, once the game has been decided, you throw the cards on the table and claim a win. In all other games, one doesn’t play out a decided endgame because it’s rude.

In MMO games, playing out a trivial endgame is expected and called “content”. I find that pretty weird, but maybe I’m just used to competitive and skilled games. However the term “endgame” has no place in MMOs.

No idea what dungeon finders have to do with this thread, but I’m of the opinion finding dungeons is best left to the playerbase so A.net can focus on more important things.

Okay buddy, I’m done talking to you if you’re going to be “End Game = Chess rule End Games or StarCraft End Game” You clearly cant contextualize.

End Game in MMORPG terms = Things you do once you hit 80.
I’ll fill in the blanks for you.

End of max level Game.

Well … at the end of the game you start a new one. Alting is the only proper form of endgame. What you want to argue about is midgame. So please stick to the proper terms. Endgame is right before the game ends. MMO endgame is a contradiction.

Dungeon Group Finder

Gw2LFG Experienced = Experienced in applicable dungeon

Now if you’re going to continue arguing over technicalities, because you’re unable to contextualize, please dont respond any further.

Good idea. Stay silent then if you can’t stand the proper definition of endgame.

Alting, wow so your idea of end gaming is re rolling and go through the whole story again.

Excellent idea /end sarcasm.

Stay silent then if you can’t stand the proper definition of endgame in the proper context.

to be fair atlest half of the story wont be the same and will flush out more lore for you if you play both anouther race AND join Different Group

What if we had a game – where players got to define their own end game, instead of playing to how the developers wanted it to.

this happened in Guild Wars 1, I remember a place called Pre-Searing that was not intended to be the endgame, but for a select few, it was the end game.

People need to be less rigid and play games for their own enjoyment, not letting other people dictate their fun.

all the players that did that…. yeah there on tarnished cost server in the human starter citys. Just FYI

Blanket balanceing everyone hates it, why do devs keep doing it, by its vary natcher pvp will never be the same game as pve. Whats importent is that it still feels like GW2 not that the skills are exactly the same.

If you keep blanket balancing a class like the warrior it will never work. Make him stronger in PvP he becaums more OP in PVE, make it weeker in PVE he becaums more usless in PVP.

TThe only way to fix this is focus less on if the skills are exactly the same and more on if the class still feels right after spliting for pvp/pve.

Warriors are powerful in PvE because they do a lot of damage. Warriors in PvP do fine damage on static enemies.

You can buff warriors in PvP while having zero impact of PvE balance.

The PvE meta is as terrible as the PvP meta btw. It’s basically stack glass cannons and and zerg everything down. Great game ArenaNet.

Sept zerging doesn’t really work well Agnes a team of more bunkers at high level play……

I don’t think Anet’s philosphy is the same as for the game you mention. Nor the main player base I guess. When ascended gear was introduced, a lot of players flamed about the new gear they had to grind for.

So, I guess you have to consider GW2 as another kind of MMO.
Is it better or worse?!!? Well, that’s a personal taste. Personally I like GW2 so far.

Also a new MMO is on the horizon (tip: Fus Ro XXX ). Keep an eye on that. They will soon announce beta testing.

Frig those of you complaining about her appearance sound utterly ridiculous.

Why should every Charr have the same appearance? Charr SHOULD have varying appearances, just like humans do. Sometimes these appearances may result in larger or smaller features than normal, they may result in appearing older or younger, uglier or prettier, cuter or fiercer, skinnier or fatter and so on.

Every Charr should not be fierce too, some could be cowards while others could be fierce warriors. Some could be gentle or calm etc.

with most of her looks that’s true enough but he eye’s are the equivalent of humans who draw on animie eyes IRL.

Like I have said before her eyes cover her brow animations, there’s big… and than there’s to big.

Posted by: UnderdogSMO.9428

UnderdogSMO.9428

I think the video points out a big problem in GW2, that cyclic balance occurs with a huge variety of builds.

That simply isn’t happening right now, what with most classes being restricted to 1-2 viable builds. Once we truly see Anet’s vision of one class being able to do anything as long as they are slotted correctly, will we see a more interesting and deep meta in their PvP portion of the game.

For example, Guardian bunkers are strong because they bunker well against EVERYTHING. Now suppose Necros/Rangers had some sorta viable anti-bunker build that countered Guardian Bunkers. But they DON’T counter Ele Bunkers. But then Ele bunkers are more easily countered by Thief/Wars, and etc…

Would be ideal. Even more ideal is if a Guardian could build for 2 different types of bunkers, one ideal against Condition Damage, one ideal against direct damage.

But alas, that is far away.

Isn’t this kind what they were saying when talking about toying with the idea of boon hate?

Talk about elitism

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Although it has been said already in this thread, the level of elitism is not thankfully the norm. However, I have taken to going to the LFG site and placing the more onerous posts name into my in game block so as to not hear them advertise in L.A. or when and if we ever have an in-game LFG tool.

So IMO the LFG website serves more than one purpose.

if any ones time is that important he probably shouldnt be playing video games.

There has been some balance work done, yes, and they’ve been hyping their progress with culling in WvW. As far as new content….well depending on how long you’ve been away we got a new supposedly endless dungeon called Fractals of the Mists, and….not much else to be honest.

There is an island you can reach through Lion’s Arch, but short of farming for a new crafting mat no one ever goes there, and there is nothing to do there. Kind of dead-end content really. They hyped it, added it, and have since done nothing with it. Honestly I think they may have forgotten about it. At the very least it was a “go nowhere” plot thread.

Just fractals…. DUDE WTF? we have got way more than that. granted Fractals has been some of the best.

PvP is based on Wins/Losses, while it should be more based on kills/deaths…

Plus if it doesn’t reset, weekly/monthly then a new player will never be able to get in the list anyway.

I expected more from the leaderboards ; /

UnderdogSMO.9428

Hi, everyone. The team has been following the spirited discussion about Rox (and Braham). I just wanted to pop in with a note from our Lead Character Artist so he can provide some background information and clarity about the art direction for Rox.

Aaron Coberly, Lead Character Artist

Hey everyone, this is Aaron Coberly, the Lead Character Artist here on Guild Wars 2. I can see that there are a lot of strong feelings about the design decisions for Rox so I wanted to come on and set the record straight. The goal with Rox was to expand the charr’s visual options. She is a young charr so we thought it would be a good opportunity to introduce the cute kitty cat end of the spectrum. This isn’t a change of direction but an expansion of the race. Our goal is to add more variety to all of the races over time and we saw this as a good opportunity to do this with the female charr. The charr are a feline race, which gives us a lot of options—from the grizzled matronly lioness to the strong puma and even the cute house cat. We don’t want to limit our options to just one section of the feline genus. Our designs are inspired by all the feline variety that exists in nature.

Further on down the road, it does mean that if we introduce new faces into character creation, they will include a broader range. Does that mean that this particular face will be in there? No, because she is a main character, but there could be a cute kitty cat style face.

Hope that information helps you all understand the thinking behind Rox’s appearance.

thats awesome but her eye’s don’t even fit her face animations

so there’s that

i feel its to clunky in this game and when useing any skill that dose malie or cone dammage its not a good idea to use it because as soon as the mob your targiting moves out of range you stop attacking.

but even though the mob your targiting moves you can still hit any mobs in your cone

I’m pretty sure that isn’t the case, and there’s nothing wrong with having an autoattack. It has nothing to do with being ‘bright’.

it dose when your not smart enough to figger out there isnt one. this was when the game still had mana and your 1 skill would actualy use some of iit from what i remamber.

we need a way to brake up large zerg groups (more so now it seem’s) and this seems to me to be any easy and effective way of doing it.

I disagree with your points made. How many content upgrades did Prophecies have when it was six months old? What did they get? Sorrow’s Furnace? FoTM absolutely was better than that.

No, I don’t think it was. I could play the Sorrow’s Furnace stuff with or without other players. FoTM, not so much. Here in GW2 they keep adding ‘content’ that is out of my reach. I either have to do something else (that I don’t want to do) first or I can’t do it alone. I’m not opposed to teaming, but I generally only team with friends, and when they’re not around I tend to play solo. There’s no valid reason FoTM couldn’t have been designed to allow for solo play (the same goes for teams with more than 5 players). And for those who will say, “It’s an MMO, you’re supposed to team up!” I say what difference does it make if players form teams or play solo so long as they are playing?

this is not a single player game and makeing content solo would trivialize team focused content. there would be no need for team synergy or to focus on team builds.

part of the chalange is finding the bust way to aproch content as a team. not to just ROFLstomp everything as a one man army.

That’s the difference.

We all know that defeating a boss in 400 seconds due to quickness, when it should take 420 seconds, is just completely overpowered and needed to be nerfed, right?

::shakes head::

Probably the biggest impact of Quickness was that it actually got people to coordinate their alpha strikes to take advantage of the increased execution rate. I mean, all it did was allow you to occasionally execute six seconds of attacks in three seconds. In most fights, pointless, in boss fights, just makes them slightly less tedious and also provides players with a sense of accomplishment on their ability to coordinate a dramatic attack.

Add this nerf to the “come on, was that really, really necessary” list of head scratching moments since the game released. I mean, come on, I know they have a lot better things to do with their development time!

(10 seconds of quickness ever 210 seconds at the old 100% rate allowed 20 seconds worth of attacks in 10 seconds, which really just shaved 10 seconds off a normally 210 second encounter. That’s 5% more damage over time, assuming everyone makes perfectly efficient use of the time under quickness! Even if you could double the duration via traits/buffs, it would still only be a 10% increase in damage, requiring a very specific built to achieve. Being overkill on most scrub mobs and accounting for time traveling between encounters, the actually reduction in completion time for a dungeon run would be much less than the theoretical maximum benefit).

More importantly the burst is very important in critical situations like when your party is about to die and the boss also had a sliver of health left or when u need to rez teammates quickly. Now it is 50% less effective.

I kind of agree with other posters saying why argue over trivial matters like this. Clearly if anyone who didn’t like the changes can always take a break from the game, wait for a month or so or until content / mechanics changes are to their liking then come back. If they come back that is.

50% less effective and still one of the best skills to have. because thats how OP it was

OMFG just turn off player name visibility, it’s not a big deal not to see a name. If you’re interested in the player you can just get a cursor to them it’s not a big deal to see or not to see green crap text all over the screen.

I think you can also hold Alt and it will show all name’s as well

Edit (its actualy Alt. Control shows NPC)

oh kitten just make the rare and all derivatives from the said rare account bound already. There! No more farming for ecto to sell, no more selling rares on TP, only farm for own use or for own farming to legendary. Removes the bots from the equation and reduces populations attending these events? Done? Done.

Ya, who needs trading in an online multiplayer RPG anyway? Right fellas!?

You can trade the rares from the multitude of other sources (fractals, dungeons, open world, guild missions, etc) which do not encounter the overflow problem. Removing ONE source of rares will not break the economy and will remove the cause of unhappiness of a lot of people. Why not?

-edit- a word which actually did not default to kitten?! omg.

there trying to make it so you only do the events some time’s…. not drive people away completely ((As every one runs back into the dungeons))

But when something like life-steal food getting an internal CD is added, a needed addition, the community goes ape**** and we get thread after thread after thread how ArenaNet destroyed “the only viable builds available to X profession”.

I agree about the hyperbole, but the Omnompie change is really analogous to the latest quickness change.

Was it too strong and warping the environment? Sure. But it was warping the environment because the game, especially dungeons and end-game PvE content in general, are very, very sustain dependent encounters, which most classes are really bad at. Omnompie helped level the playing field, by giving every class a source of sustain.

Was it crazy overpowered? Sure. But its removal did not encourage build diversity; it discouraged it by making the game even more Guardian and Time Warp dependent, as you either need sustain (which only Guardians really excel at on a team-wide scale) or burst (Time Warp) to handle boss fights.

I would have been thrilled to see Omnompie removed, and an effort made to shore up sustain across the board to compensate and make other classes less Guardian dependent. Instead it was nerfed, with nothing filling the gap – and, sadly, no expectation of anything changing to fill that gap any time in the future.

So overreaction? Yes. But people were reacting for a good reason.

thats not true a restoration focused Necro can sastain player’s almost as well with there restoration wells and the life steal you get from ranged through one of there Feilds ((know what it looks like, not what its called)) that with a warrior with healing shouts you can stay on your feet a good long time.

((my guild runs like this all the time))

Please don’t tell me that the developers actually know what they are doing because every patch they release makes it more and more obvious that they don’t play the same game we do.

If you believe – you truly believe – that the developers aren’t competent then why are you still playing? If the developers are as clueless as some of you make them out to be, then the game is doomed and you might as well abandon ship now.

I believe anet is under-resourced and has lost its vision for the game. This has led to bugs, changes taking far too long, solutions which merely short cuts rather than considered, short sighted decisions and decisions that anger much of the fan base.

its pretty clear to any one with a little critical thinking that they have not “lost there Vision” how ever they have made a few needed compromise’s in order to sestane the large player base to support this game and its content.

when I can no longer do content with out max level gear than i may start to swing tword your way of thinking. tell than all i know is that i only have 1 accended and still Crush ((play better)) than many with full set and a legendary ((or 4))

i sick of carrying most of the pugs i join….. ((FYI most of the fanbase dont get on the forums))

This was Chest drops from would events. Now because of what the community said Anet changed it to where it is now.

Please stop being so naive.
Anet didnt change a thing related to chests because of what anyone said on their forums. They changed it because they saw people gaining too much reward from it. They even said as much when they announced the change.

How do you know that is their entire reason? Making the drops account bound was one of the biggest available solutions that wouldn’t wreck the game as far as overflows are concerned.

People were blaming guesting for the overflows when clearly it wasn’t the only reason for it. But lets imagine for a second that guesting was the cause of all this: Wouldn’t something like, say, making the chest spawn only on your home world have been a better solution? Nah, not when people still got all the rares. So they nerfed the reward as a band-aid on the symptom but left the disease (overflows) intact.

Pritty nice band add as even with all the player’s online((and gesting)) to TC to day I have yet to end up in an overflow. ((and people are rendering faster than normal, also the hole nameplate thing))
