Playing an asura mesmer - This only annoys me because it seems like the default choice of someone bored with their main class and wants to try something different.

But… Asura Mesmer is my main class. I didn’t pick it for the PvP advantage…

I know it’s wide known that asura have a pvp advantage for the hard to see tells and all, but for mesmer do you think it works as a disadvantage? Like you have your screen and you have all the clones and the player running around the clones. With less character model taking up the screen space it sort of draws more attention to enemy player and their movements ( I know in high level pvp most players can follow the player but sometimes in streams and tourneys ill see even the highest players get a little turned around on a clone). With bigger race models however, the clones can sort of cover up valuable screen real estate, and allow the player to sort of hide their movements better. I’m just asking from my personal experience, I feel like I have a way easier time fighting an asura mesmer as opposed to say a charr or norn mesmer.

your response to my statment is the same amount of exaggeration. in a pu spec the only time you need to be out of steath is to block and wait for reveal buff to go away.

90 is obviously not an accurate percent(it was an intentional exaggeration).. but if i need to explain that to you then you need to get off the forums a tiny bit.

the condi pu mesmer does not add damage while out of stealth.. scepter auto attacking will cause you to lose more damage then you will add because it ends up producing scepter clones that are worthless. staff is your only source of added dps out of stealth.. and other then upping the physical damage from 5 to like 400 you are pretty much just another clone.

so being out of stealth dosent really help this fantastic build.. you may as well be hiding around the corner or in stealth dodge rolling. like i said.

The blanket “PU spec” shouldn’t be used. I run PU in a build that uses sword/pistol + scepter/torch. It’s a very active weapon set and I literally only use stealth to reposition and quick jukes. There is no pop clones hide in stealth in my build. You should probably change your posts to the specific builds that use the play style you are referring to.

First they make it possible to blank phantasm summons with blind an invulnerability. Now they make it possible to dodge and blind clone death traits, and reduce the intensity and duration of one of the procs. The best bit is because such a tiny portion of the player base is mesmers they won’t even revert it because we don’t have enough QQ to bring down a castle like the rest of the QQmmunity.

don’t forget the minor traits you have in order to run PU, gain regen at 75% health and gain prot whenever you gain regen. So now if you get a crappy roll on PU, say might, swift, and regen, it will pop prot too. I think the changes are minimal and fair.

What upsets me more is that a lot of these changes are brought on by the insane amount of QQ from the forums after last weeks ready up. The patch isn’t even out yet and we’re getting nerfed. The community frustrates the hell out of me.

my vote is for it to be only applied to non 80’s. I like the idea as it makes crafting and finding gear more relevant (currently as it is I just buy all my gear from the TP every 10 levels as i’m leveling). It would be way more enjoyable to have dropped loot help me out more.

scepter was already one of the lamest weapons to use…the aa was slow and awful. I think they should have put the condi on the final hit, not all. That way it adds something to the aa but doesn’t make it “op” (cause its such a painfully slow projectile and can easily be dodged) like everyone crying about it here.

I’m on YB, we go from T3 to T4. When we faced Mag for one week it was so blobby. Also couldn’t roam (i solo and duo roam) because there were constant 10 man “roaming” parties. Currently in T3/T4 there are about 6 servers that have pretty decently matched pops (there are some exceptions here and there) so the match ups are actually pretty solid. I don’t know anything about T1, but if it’s anything like T2 it will be blobby as well. The thing I like about T3/T4 is it’s got zerg fights, it’s got roaming groups, it’s got solo roamers. Little to no queues all around a pretty solid place. There are off hours though where it will be pretty light (last night for example was light, mainly cause it was thursday) and you will run into the same roamers over and over. T2 is the “GvG” servers, and also the home to the “best” pvper’s in the game (sarcasm) so i’m sure you’ll hear from them in here in due time. Anyways that’s from my perspective, been playing since April of last year.

If this thing is being summoned right in my face the animation speed of the clone needs to be nerfed by 50% so that people can actually dodge it.

Mesmer was strong enough in 1v1 already.

currently there is a cooldown before you can swap, if it stays the same you just have to look for a clone that summons right beside you, dodge away from that and you’re good

One thing i noticed about the iLeap…when you swap to it the clone stays there at the summon spot. This might have a pretty strong burst potential. If you have clones up, summon ileap last > swap and imob > shatter > blurred frenzy, maybe even mantra or something.

Here’s a thought kittens…how about not stacking…so ya know…we can get some solid matchups every week. Also why the hell would you stack for the “rewards”. “Sweet bro you bought 1800 gems to transfer so you could get 4 extra greens and a few other random items that will probably sit in you bank till you quit the game”.

Ever since the nerf to Traveler runes, I have switched to Runes of Speed. I find the 20% swift duration, +100 vitality and 25% chance to gain swiftness when struck to be way more useful than 10% boon/condi duration and +16 all stats.

Anet wants people to transfer…because more gems bought that way. They won’t change this.

I use Traveler on almost all my toons (wvw roaming). The extra utility slot is pretty valuable (for classes that have speed utilities). Yes you lose a little bit of power but you gain some nice defense, boon uptime, etc.

Yup I made this thread because it’s so dang comical…it’s actually quite ridiculous.

I run a d/d thief with sigil of fire and sigil of air. I’ve noticed recently there is a random bug where i’ll enter stealth as a mob is channeling an attack and the hit will land on me while in stealth. That will lead to either sigil of air or sigil of fire to proc and reveal me. These are only suppose to proc on crit so not sure what’s going on here.

I’ll agree with the op on the point that in any of these zones I see randoms all over the place, people I don’t recognize at all. The only true place to get that server community is in WvW now. That being said I do like seeing all the zones populated. They should just add a server chat to the chats, so you can basically map chat with only people from your server. It would also help with wvw reinforcement call outs as well.

I will never understand this skill. It’s always messing up, pathing all over the place, stop start stop, “oh let me jog over to the enemy”. HOWEVER the other day me and like 5 other friendlies were chasing a nike warrior. He used his sword jump literally right as I used my sword 3 and for some reason….the clone…..shot out like a rocket and jumped right on the back of the warrior. I quick swapped and imob’d and we killed him. I just stood there stunned. It was amazing. I’ve never seen the clone move that fast. The planets must have aligned and created some like perfect spot in the universe where the skill functioned like it should. I dunno, cray cray. Anyways yeah Anet fix sword 3.

• Playing with anonymous people (basically megaserver) means no community, which means no one cares about winning or losing.

this, this, and this some more. the cool thing about wvw is the community that is built from it. Server pride comes in and you band together with your server mates for the battle. I love jumping into wvw and seeing the familiar faces. Hop on server TS and fight for the matchup that week. It’s even more so during seasons (at least for me, i play the ppt game about half the time, makes it somewhat interesting). They can fix every single problem mentioned above in the other posts, but the fact is everyone still wouldn’t care. If they ever bring Megaservers to the core WvW game, well that will be my cue to leave the game.

When I first started playing all I played was PvE, hated the wvw map completion task, would only jump in if we had a specific tower or keep. Fast forward to today…all I play is wvw. I just jumped in there and followed the dorrito, got the points of interest, but at the same time didn’t even care about the points of interest…because I started to have fun. This may not relate to op’s specific situation per say, but to all the pve players that need map completion, take a risk. Step outside your comfort zone a little. You never know you may find a game mode that you really really really enjoy.

I tried this from Dreamer’s Terrace and it took me back to Southsun (where I started). The exit button above the minimap and the exit “portal” both wanted to return me to my original location….I couldn’t get directly into the grove.

Either not working or there was some other trick to it….do I need to run out to the “you’re leaving the instance” area to get into the grove?

for me (i’m asuran) when i enter the home instance there is a green sparkle (like a story instance) at the exit, if i run to that a dialog pops up to leave, if I take that it takes me to my starting point. However if I run past that and run through the portal it exits me into Rata Sum. So if for you if you run through the exit portal and it’s taking you to your starting point then something is broken.

There is another thread about this, but i’ll post all this here to hopefully get more attention to it.

I personally contacted support requesting they add the same merchants to the other races that are lacking (i play asura) and this is the response I got from ANET SUPPORT…

As said in the other thread, not only is this a canned answer, it’s also a wrong answer to the whole point of the portal stone. If i use the stone to go to the asuran home instance, then walk through the portal to Rata Sum to find a vendor, it breaks the portal stone return to starting location.

Given the current situation and how Anet has decided to handle this situation…I recommend all Asurans and Sylvaris to DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON THE PORTAL STONE. DO NOT BUY GEMS (hoping that don’t buy gems statement will scare Anet and they’ll fix the issue).

Seriously though i’m pretty kittened about this. I don’t understand how or why they would ever make the home instances different and not equal to all the races.

If you solo roam don’t go to T2, T2’s roaming consists of 10ish players roaming around in packs nuking down 1’s and 2’s. Go on Twitch and look for FA,SOS, or MAG streamers and you will see what i’m talking about. Pretty much any server below T3 will be better for solo roaming. I personally think T3 is a nice balance, but it does get blobby here and there. So T4-6 might be a better option. Good luck wherever you go!

in the asuran home instance, if you leave and click yes to the exit instance pop up yes it will send you back to your starting location. But if you just run past that and walk through the portal it puts you out in rata sum. I still don’t accept it either. It’s not fair that other races have more in their instance and some get completely shafted. If a player doesn’t have any nodes in their instance and they are asuran they literally have nothing in there…whats the point? Why would they even make it so unfair, it’s mind boggling how this was even approved as a design decision.

I submitted a support ticket about this asking for all the home instances to be treated the same (i’m asuran so it extra sucks). They responded with you can just walk out of the portal into rata sum to find a vendor. Pretty kitteny excuse if you ask me. i’ll be refunding my gems for the home instance stone. what a stupid design decision.

I feel like since they can pump out pve mini updates every two weeks that they should be able to put out mini wvw updates (they’d have to hire a wvw development team first obviously). Could you imagine if they staggered the two. Had pve update on week, wvw/pvp update the next….that would be amazing! Even if it was just mini updates with a few bug fixes here and there.

When I solo roam i’ll do pretty much everything that has been mentioned above. One thing about tapping gates to create a diversion, tapping keeps with waypoints can make a huge difference. If your server is attacking say hills, go tap their garri to contest the wp. Reinforcements will have to run from the citadel which will take them a little bit longer. That extra time can really help swing the battle in your server’s favor.

Most of those buffs were really straight forward buffs to underused or weak skills. That’s actually awesome as far as balance goes in general since it increases build variety. Also the buffs were simple buffs to straightforward skills.

We need bug fixes more than anything.
Some buffs are too much power creep to other classes.
Devs have a history of not understanding the mesmer.

I’m worried.

Edit: Also a lot of ppl are talking about engineers also having reveal and buffing ranger reveal. This doesn’t bode well for PU and thieves so that’s one more build of ours that’s getting a hard counter.

Yeah, this is probably my exact thinking, at first the buffs and changes look exciting for what could be coming…but then after it sinks in it makes me extremely worried.

After watching the Ready up and seeing all the buffs the Ranger got, I honestly can’t decide if i’m excited to see what we’ll get or completely terrified at what they will nerf more. What do ya’ll think?

Terrible idea. Once megaservers launched I lost a lot of desire to play PvE…it just felt so hollow and boring. It feels weird being in maps with a bunch of strangers from other servers. I love the feeling of community that I get in the WvW maps. I’m fighting for my server and don’t want to just be a color fighting with a bunch of randoms.

The only reason most people run from fights is because all the grief they get for dying. Trolly stomps, /laugh, party joins and whispers full of trash talk, etc.

Me personally i’m more of a roaming dueler as opposed to a roamer (mainly cause i’m the only one left in my guild that plays and i’m always solo) so when I run it’s usually because the other server suddenly had 10 allies show up or because i’m trying to lure a player away from his/her zerg.

All the NA servers are kittenes…the tiniest sight of losing and everyone screams the sky is falling and stacks up on the higher servers, that’s why the T1 servers are so stacked. Just think if everyone spread out there could potentially be like 9 servers that have evenish numbers. The matchups would be different week in and week out, it would be glorious.

Given zero dev attention, seasons only burn players out and in the long run decrease the WvW population.

If, on the other hand, a new BL or EB map were released from time to time (say, every 1/2 year), seasons would probably be a catalyst for increasing short and long term WvW population.

This. Seasons aren’t the problem. If anything seasons could make wvw very exciting. The problem is zero attention from the devs. New maps? Revamped game mechanics to fix “coverage always wins”? Any updates? A simple forum reply? Anything? Without any of this servers go ham during seasons and burn themselves out because post seasons it’s the same exact thing, week in and week out. I personally just use wvw as a glorified deathmatch arena, very rarely ppt, just kitten around and look for good 1v1’s and such, so i’m still having fun lol.

Un-freakin-believable, mesmers get nerfed literally every single patch…it’s insane..

I’m by no means a good thief or have the best “meta” build. But this is the build I swapped to awhile back and have been running with no problem. The typical glassy backstab build (i don’t like d/p so I opt for the d/d). As you can tell from the build it offers a lot of might uptime, with the strength runes, strength sigil, battle sigil, and might in stealth. Also I like taking blind on stealth but that can be swapped out for the condi removal on stealth.

This is an MMO, people like to farm in MMO’s for gold,mats, loot, etc. This is what they get for nerfing every single farming spot in the game. Players will just move to the next best thing. If you can get on an EotM map with solid blobs going you can make a lot of loot, money, and karma. EotM will most likely get nerfed in some way if the map chat hostility keeps going on (just like they did to queensdale). On a side note, i love roaming in EotM, karma zerglings are the easiest things to kill ever lol. They rage so hard when I nuke them down right before they run into a keep to get the cap.

Phantasmal Fury only affects phantasms. We only have 1 rapid hitting phantasm (iDuelist).

Majority of the bleed stacks from Sharper Images come from clones, not the phantasms.
