Don’t feed the trolls. Everyone with half a brain is loving this change.

It’s perfect for me. I run LB/GS for WvW and now with stealth/remorseless and a guaranteed opening strike Maul….

Happy happy happy.

Remorseless is bugged atm i believe. Just so you know.

I actually somewhat changed my mind and made a thread about it. I run GS/LB, and though Remorseless + Maul sound nice, I’m not sure if I want to lose Eagle Eye/Piercing Arrow for it now…

WvW, I would keep Piercing Arrows/Eagle Eyes and use stealth as an escape tool. I haven’t got the time to explore too much on Remoreseless, but currently at the moment, I only see stealth useful as an escaping skill.

Edit: I also don’t see the effectiveness of opening shot at the moment. If someone who had explored this area can enlighten, it would greatly be appreciated.

Mmm yes. I should do some quick calculations with Remorseless to see just how much of a dps increase you actually get…

I’m sure it’ll increase your damage by a bit, I’m just not sure if it’s worth sacrificing the range/dmg from Eagle Eye and the AoE from Piercing

I wanted to hear the community’s opinions on this. Previously I traited for Piercing Arrows/Eagle Eye. But now with the changes, I’m considering Remorseless. Which 2 traits out of the three do you plan to take?

Note: this is mainly for WvW.

Those aren’t from dailies, you have maybe 30-40 from dailies over the span of the entire game so far. The rest of those you got recently from the AP chests which will basically end in a couple weeks. Also plenty of people can get in 3-4 different paths in under an hour.

Yes, I realize. I never said that all 200 stones were from my dailies.

Say 3 paths. ~200 tokens in an hour. ~3 hours for ~600 tokens. Is still 300 hours of my life I have to devote to use up all my MF stones. This is also gated by the fact that not all dungeon paths are equal (i.e. can’t devote 10 hours per day) so this process will take months.

There’s also the opportunity cost of the MF stones. You can use them for rare weapons as well (What I’ve been doing) or make MF kits, which only take 3 and have 250 uses (which last quite a while for me.) It’s not like the MF stones have some other use. So might as well toss them into the MF, right? That’s their whole function.

Regardless though, I’m not sure what your point is. I don’t really disagree with you, but I still stand by my original statement that getting exotics and tossing them into the MF with MF stones is almost as competitive as salvaging rares for ectos.

Nope, I don’t tell falsehoods. Lets see, I hate Dungeons, despise Fractals, and WvWvW is a money sink, so how exactly am I supposed to acquire all this wealth? Between buying gems, and trying to kit out my toons, I’m lucky if I have 2 gold spare.

Added to which the prices of precursors are going up quicker than I can acquire the gold to buy them.

The only false statement, is that eventually one will drop for you… and lots of people will tell you, it won’t.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/29185

From 695G at Feb 1st to a range of 656G~ 725G (average of 690.5) between Jul 18-21st.

Look at the graph, and you can see the price has been remarkably stable since Feb. Some other precursors below.

Dawn: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/29169

Zap: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/29181
Spark: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/29167

So no, prices aren’t going up “quicker than you’re earning them” because they aren’t going up AT ALL since Feb. Prices have mostly stabilized after the inflationary period at the beginning of the game. Unless you’re somehow earning negative amount of money. In which case I must comment that I’m amazed at your inefficiency.

The so called “free market” is as much an illusion in Guild Wars 2 as it is in real life. It’s just a buzz word for republicans to throw around so people feel better about being completely ripped off. The reality is that the price of goods has nothing to due with supply and demand, or what people are willing to pay, but rather has everything to do with received value, marketing, and “trends.”

Right. Stuff like perceived value, marketing, and fads are all things that can affect supply and demand.

Currently on the trading post a Aetherized Rifle skin cost 69 gold. On the currency exchange 69 gold would be approximately 3500 gems, or (adjusted for the nearest gem bundle) $50.

Ya, that’s perfectly fine. I’m sure it’ll get cheaper as the update progresses. But the actual price point is somewhat moot point. There’s no cartel of wealthy players holding the prices hostage. The prices you see are set by the free market, and you can earn gold in-game to buy these weapons.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Because we all know players with big real world wallets hording tickets and listing these skins at ridiculous mark-ups is much more fair than just having a set gem store price for them that, given time, we could also get through normal gameplay (gold to gem conversion).

With the size of the player base, a significant amount of these weapon skins will be produced, thus making it impossible to monopolize. Supply and demand will dictate the prices.

And you can get gold through normal gameplay too, which you can use to purchase them off the TP. Not sure what your point is?

If you don’t like RNG, purchase it off the trading post.

If you do it with the current giveaways of those due to achievements, indeed, it’s quite ok, but those are definitely in limited count.

And you get a fair amount from dailies as well.

I have about 200 of them. Getting ~600 tokens requires 10 dungeon path runs. Assuming you do 2 paths per day, that’s 5 days. So 5 days of constant dungeon running lets you consume 1 MF stone using this method. To use up all my MF stones (ignoring future ones I obtain) I’ll have to spend about 1000 days of constant dungeon running.

Needless to say I am not worried about their limited amount. In fact now that I made this post I might start using my MF stones for tossing rares weapons into the MF too =/.

You should multiply by 4, not by 3, since you’re selling the result and you have no leftover for the next forge attempt.

So I’ll fix it for you:
That’s about 2g for 840 tokens if you take exotics. But with 840 tokens, you can get 28 rares, resulting in 25 ectos, sold for 3.75g profit (with your assumptions).

2g vs 3g75s it starts to make a difference!

I don’t understand.

It’s 630 tokens + 1 MF stone to make an exotic which I sell. Why are you multiplying by 4?

Stealth capping a downed opponent… maybe I’m evil, but it always makes me smile when Shared Anguish and Hide in Plain Sight both proc during a guardian cap.

That’s another great point. Now LB rangers have an easy source of stealth to stomp those annoying warriors/engineers/necros.

The Blog post that killed CoF path 1

Ursan.7846

Ummm… 4 exotic greatswords for mystic forging = 1560 tokens. You could get 52 rares with that much. Assuming a .9 conversion to ectos, that’s 47 ectos. Lowest sell price of ectos is at 18.42s, so a profit of about 15s if you sell via TP. That would come out to 7.05g. While some greatswords are super expensive, most are around the 2g area. You’d have to get a ton of tokens or be very very lucky for it to get close.

I go for shields actually since they are only 210 tokens and its precursor is decently pricy (~300G). I toss them in with a mystic forge stone. From my experience, the exotic weapons I get average around ~2G (with the Pearl stuff the most common one, which are around ~1.70g ish) Just randomly including the expected value of much more higher valued stuff, assuming 2G per forge….

That’s about 2G per 630tokens. 630 tokens is is 21 rares. Assuming 0.9 ectos/salvage, and assuming the cost of salvage kit itself balances out the sigil/rune/mats, that’s ~19 ectos, which assuming 15s per profit, is around 2G85S total.

2G vs 2.85G. Not the same of course, but it’s almost competitive.

No doubt they have the data, but the devil’s always in the details, isn’t it?

Take for example COF, COE, HOTW and Arah data vs the other instances. These instances are fundamentally different from the other instances in that their tokens can be converted into ectos. Does this add or subtract to their weighting? Should it not count?

I don’t think it should. If you wish to convert tokens directly into gold, purchasing exotics, MFing them, and selling it is almost as competitive as selling ectos since ectos are pretty cheap now (with the added bonus for PRECURSOR~). Too lazy to do the calculations now but I’ve done rough estimations.

However, this is not at all representative of the potential population once the rewards are announced. Make them enticing enough, and you’ll have an entirely new population. Make them unappetizing, and you’ll lose a significant portion of your population who’ll move on to greener pasteurs. In either case, skewing it, and rendering those once representative metrics irrelevant.

Indeed. However, the metrics may not change that much since what we’re dealing is simply smaller/larger sample sizes. i.e. just because less people do CoF 1 doesn’t mean the average clear time will suddenly grow longer. What is more possible, I think, is with more people doing a certain path, more exploits/skipping methods can be found and that can skew things.

I’m personally very excited for this implementation, of course. My gilded infusion isn’t though.

Curious as to what the metrics for determining “difficulty” and “length” will be… And along those lines, which will be the more heavily weighted.

I imagine they’ll be using a combination of the following metrics to determine these.

1. Average dungeon completion time
2. Variance on dungeon completion time (larger variance = more skilled groups cut more time?)
3. Rate of success/failure (Would love to see what it’s like TBH). Can be overall or for specific bosses, perhaps (i.e. Simin, or specific events like AC Hodgins defense from burrows)
4. Percentage/frequency players are getting downed.

Just some ideas off the top of my head. I’m 99% positive they keep track of data which they can use to calculate above metrics.

You continue to use words I use in a different context.

They have a unique skin. The fact that they are all temporary does not change the fact that their appearance are all unique. Some people value this unique appearance more highly than others, and justify their expenses due to it.

Yes, that view is subjective. As is yours. We can discuss the logic behind it all day, but when it comes to whether or not we think it is right all we can discuss is opinion, in which neither of us are objectively correct.

I’m not sure I understand. It’s unique because it has a unique skin that’s different from Wintersday/Aetherblade weapons. That is the definition of the word unique. And when an unique item has only one unique method of obtaining it, a person must then judge how much he values the reward, and how much he’s willing to invest in the process. No. I do understand statistics. Thus my use of ‘hypothetically’.

To hypothesize 100% in statistics for situations in which there is no 100% chance earns a no-no from me. (It’s a completely pointless thing to bring up, because it’s infinite, hypothetically, literally, theoretically.)

But if you calculated that expected value, those items would be priced exponentially higher than anything else on the gem store. That is the problem. The prices are absurd and require gambling with real money.

You must not have read the entirety of my post. You can’t compare the calculated value with anything else in the gem store, because the reward is a unique thing which individuals place unique value onto it. Some individuals will place very high value on this object, and so naturally they will be willing to spend up to their threshold in order to obtain it, because they value it that much.

This is a very similar logic to the whole achievement point discussion we’ve had. Some individuals place a great deal of value in completing these achievement, thus they will undertake tasks they abhor in order to achieve them. Do you make fun of these people by telling them “it’s not worth it?” No, you respect their individual choice and their individual valuation of certain rewards.

This is why people gamble. They sincerely think it’s worth it, and it’s rude to belittle the fact that they value the reward so much.

EDIT: Of course, as you said this whole point is really moot if RNG items aren’t account bound since the market will set a value to the item and the player doesn’t have to. But for account bound RNG items, yes, it will be ultimately be up to the individual to assign these items a value.
