Tradingpost broken?

I think they need to take the TP out of beta and update it. The only MMO auction house I’ve used that is so slow to post and can’t handle volume. However on the upside (for ArenaNet), the last time it was down for a long time people started to buy more bank and inventory space because they couldn’t sell their stuff.

So if unid dyes are no longer drops, but they are still needed to make a legendary (100), how are these supposed to be obtained other than on the TP. There must be a feasible way of acquiring them in the future through normal game-play once the TP drys up… right?

By crafting rare dyes and putting them in the Mystic Forge, or buying with Laurels.

Both of those methods don’t really seem very feasible to obtain 100 unids.

Its sad that PU is not nerfed

PU being OP is a myth I keep reading in the forums (especially here in the Mesmer section). I run a PU power variant and I am not invincible and have my fair share of deaths to skilled players in WvW. It definitely adds survivability, but as mentioned we have long cds on stealth skills. There are a few players who excel as a PU mesmer, but I suspect if they didn’t run PU they would still likely destroy you.

Mesmers Need 25% speed bonus

Vague Memory.2817

The OP is right. I personally use Speed runes to keep up with other classes in WvW and world boss trains. The thing about using runes for increased speed is you’ll never get to play with all the other interesting rune sets to help fine tune builds, and why should any class have to spend gold in order keep up with the other players in the group. This is especially ridiculous for a class that is light armoured and needs mobility to survive. A signet of speed would be good, or at the least combining the two blink traits into one (longer distance + reduced recharge speed).

The Devs have shown time and again they really couldn’t care less about the mesmers, almost as if they resent having to work on the class at all. No real bug fixing and poor new GM traits, need I say more.

This was from the pre-patch information on Mesmer changes:

“In the April 2014 Feature Pack, we’re focusing on giving the mesmer a few more options for applied conditions and support/survivability. Clones and phantasms will receive some updates and bug fixes, including the repair of the Illusionary Warden. Along with a few other bug fixes, the mesmer will benefit greatly from the changes to sigils, especially now that they can equip two sigils to their greatsword or staff. We’re also quite excited about a few new mesmer traits that are becoming available, such as Maim the Disillusioned, which has a great name.”

Source: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/runes-sigils-and-balance-updates/

This line made me laugh:

“the mesmer will benefit greatly from the changes to sigils, especially now that they can equip two sigils to their greatsword or staff”.

That was the best we got, however every other class also benefited from this as they have 2-handers as well.

Broken Events since update

Vague Memory.2817

I don’t do events very often, but thought I’d give it a go over the last couple of days. Whether an event meta chain completes or not just seems random. You have a bunch of people waiting around for the boss fight and it doesn’t show up. This happened several times in a roll for different events. A lot of time spent map jumping to see which one is actually working. Waste of time at the moment. Someone speculated that it may be the new wardrobe system…the boss just can’t decide what to wear.

On a side note, there should be an option for an in-game event timer, and some clearer instructions on what you are actually suppose to do next in the chain. For new people with no one experienced present in the group, means some of the events are just frustrating because the objectives aren’t clear, or/and the maps are too convoluted. When the events do work they are quite fun.

What I posted is what actually happened, there is no need to lie. We don’t need to double team. The truth is we are very good. We have won every match-up so far fair and square. None of the SFR commanders I’ve played with would lower themselves to double teaming and would rather lose. When you can take a home keep containing a full zerg while under fire from 10 ACs with just a 25 man blob you don’t have to do stuff like that. Anyone who has played us will know we hardly ever use ACs in the battlefield because we love a challenge and prefer to win by skill rather than spamming AC fire.

OP is wrong. I’m on SFR and been WvW’ing most of this afternoon. This is how it really went down. A few tags decided they wanted Deso to come 2nd, because they thought that Deso would be more challenging for the next match up. They therefore helped Deso suppress BB by leaving Deso alone and hitting BB assets only. There was no agreement. Personally I and a few others thought this was dumb, but they went ahead anyway. Eventually those commanders tag off, and others tagged up some time after and thought it made no sense to help Deso, and let BB and Deso duke it out without interference. They were not far from each other in points in the end, and I think BB, just got it. Credit to BB, they came back from 4000 points behind Deso this morning. For the record, we had relatively fewer players on because we already had the match in the bag, so we had small zergs mostly.

Is it just about tagging though? It seems you have to do a certain percentage of damage to get rewarded a loot bag from a kill. Weak single/aoe hits in a zerg don’t reward as many loot bags that’s for sure. As a Mesmer I know I’m not getting as many bags as other classes in WvW. Usually warriors and guardians say they have full inventories and I’m looking at 1/4 to 1/6 of that amount of loot, for no less work.

This happens to me intermittently . Even if you do a google search on GW2 that leads to a thread on the forums, the link won’t lead to the thread, but instead leads you to the GW2 login page. In that situation you can’t view the forum threads without logging in. It may be a browser issue, but I don’t have this issue with other forums. As mentioned before this is not related to posting on the forums (which obviously requires logging in), just thread viewing. Not everyone seems to be affected though.

Where is the New Merchant from Patch notes

Either they are still trying to figure out what to exchange blades and previous event items for, or they are hoping that the longer we hold on to large stacks like blades, the more likely we’ll run out of inventory space and buy more. As time rolls on I’m edging towards the latter explanation.

Elementalist survival (PvE)

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Vague Memory.2817

Vague Memory.2817

Elementalist still have the worst survival and they are a light armor class. My main is a Warrior and i have a Necro, Ele and Ranger alt at 80. My Warrior is superior in PvE content.

The Elementalist need a huge buff in survival. They have to sacrifice too much survival to be able to do damage or they have to sacrifice too much damage to be able to survive. Same with Ranger as well. Elementalist still has one of the best supports though. Necro is close to Warrior imo.

Edit: The Evade on Burning Speed is a good buff to Ele survival.

Never understood how that worked. logically as the weaks class defence wise. We should be producing top class dps as a counter balance. yet some how we aren’t.

This has me baffled as well. I play a Mesmer (light armour class), I expected it to be squishy, but I also expected it to be among the top damage/CC classes, but it isn’t. We are light armour but that trade off brought no other dividends. I spend most of a fight evading, kiting (harder as the GW2 camera sucks), breaking LOS, popping survival skills and putting out relatively moderate damage. It forces me to go mostly for glassy cannon builds so fights in WvW don’t last forever.

[Discuss] New Grandmaster Traits

in Mesmer

Posted by: Vague Memory.2817

Vague Memory.2817

In general I find the new grandmaster traits rather lacklustre and underwhelming. The only two I would even consider are the first two.

My preference at the moment lies with the Dueling trait, but this depends if it can stack, which it should as Mesmer’s aren’t generally know for taking down multiple foe down quickly. Also, I’d like to know what the definition of “Killing a foe” actually translates to, because when using sigils that give +power or +precision on kill I wasn’t getting credit for the majority of kills I contributed to in WvW zergs. So I’m not sure how reliable this trait would be.

What do want in the FEATURE Only Update?

Vague Memory.2817

GW2 is one of the most engrossing and fun MMOs I’ve played, but it has some fatal flaws that that really let it down. The most important to me that I’d like to see fixed is:

(1) The camera. I seriously just don’t get why the camera view was made this way, or more importantly why it has not already been improved. The field of view is absolutely horrendous (worst in any modern MMO I’ve played), especially for any form of PvP, or on terrain composed of different elevations. Just increasing the zoom out would cure this.

(2) Terrain induced skill bugs. Skills that tend to bug out if attempted on any form of elevated terrain.

(3) It’s time to get the Trading Post out of beta and make it less clunky. The game released fairly polished, but the TP’s performance and appearance sticks out like a sore thumb. Trying to post multiple different items takes too much time because of the long pauses after each transaction.

(4) More accessible ways to get ascended equipment. Getting to 500 in crafting is already a long term goal for most, which is fine, but then to add another tier that can outdo that in terms of time and cost doesn’t seem reasonable considering it isn’t even the the top tier of equipment.

(5) Lag in WvW. This is probably due to high population servers, or inadequate servers. The lag is so bad sometimes the whole zerg can’t fire off any skills, and people just log off in frustration.

(6) Grace period if DC’d/crash out of game for WvW. There is nothing more annoying if the game crashes to desktop (usually in a heavy zergs) only to log back in to find that you are in queue position 68 for the map you were just on. There should be a grace period of probably 3mins to get back into the game-map you were in.

(7) Loadout profiles. The ability to change to a saved build presets including armour, weapons and traits (out of combat – for now). This will inevitably be added at some point, because it just makes sense. Imagine playing WvW and changing from a roaming build to a zerg build on-the-fly (OoC), or to a faster travel build. Players should have three free profiles per character, and Anet can cash in on extra profiles (because you know that’s what will happen anyway).

(8) Increase the base travel speed of everyone by an extra 25%. I run with speed runes (25% speed) and this feels like the right speed for crossing maps. Less than that is painful. This would mean that people would have broader builds to choose from, rather than going Traveler’s, Speed or Centaur just for the speed boost. It is likely that this means all speed buffs would have to be reduced to about +15%, but maybe not.

(9) Certain traits/skills should be combined, and new skills introduced to fill the spots to increase playstyle. E.g. the two Mesmer’s Blink traits, one that increases range and one that reduces recharge time should be combined (I’ve traited both at the same time and it isn’t OP), to enhance the game-play.

(10) Make ascended item chests have selectable stats . After levelling 200 levels in WvW, I got one ascended chest drop with cleric stats. It will just sit there doing nothing, as I have no use for cleric stats. The drop rate is so low that this shouldn’t be a problem to implement.

WvW is so lagy.

I remember reading somewhere that it depends what server you are on. If it is a high population one then it is more likely to lag in WvW zergs. Which makes sense.

WvW/zergs=unplayable! need pc upgrade advise

in Account & Technical Support

Vague Memory.2817

I have a decent gaming laptop: Alienware m17x R3 (AMD 6990m(2GB), i7-2820QM, 8GB ram, 17" screen at 1920×1080) and I get lag in large WvW zergs as well. If you are on a server with a high population, then everyone will get lag in WvW zergs. The lag will sometimes get so bad that you can’t even fire any of your skills off any more, and you realise it isn’t just you when map chat is populated with people saying the same thing. Also when that happens I don’t get killed, meaning the other side can’t fire their skills either.

I think to get a good impression of the real performance improvements you will get from any upgrade is to turn down your graphics settings and then play WvW. This will give you a realistic impression of any real gain you are likely to get, that is independent of any inherent WvW lag. Also use a broadband speed tester like speedtest.net. I had a problem with my broadband speed dropping from 14 Mbps to 2-3 Mbps a while ago and this had a big effect on zerg lag.

Looking at your pc specs though it would be hard to see how you wouldn’t make any real gains, but don’t expect it to start playing super fluid, because it usually won’t in a very heavy zerg. Also worthy of note is you didn’t note your screen resolution; the higher you screen resolution the more taxing it is on your GPU. Although it appears as if your CPU is the immediate bottle neck at the moment. Though if you upped your CPU, it is likely that your GPU will then become the bottleneck for performance (depending on your graphics settings).

Can anyone really see through the clutter?

Vague Memory.2817

I agree with the OP. This is the only MMO I’ve played where you can’t zoom the camera out to an appropriate level, so everything usually looks cramped on the screen. It is especially bad when travelling over elevated terrain, because the camera stays fixed, magnifying the effect. I’ve heard the pseudo-arguments why the camera is the way it is, but they just don’t hold water as every other game I’ve played don’t see zooming out a problem.

They should have left this as it was originally. Since the changes, this event has failed for all groups I’ve been with either due to not having enough players for last knight or it bugs out on the last knight. I don’t even receive any deluxe gear boxes any more when we kill individual knights despite outputting huge amounts of dps on them. So as it stands now you invest a lot of time to get nothing at all. The signs of a bad event.

GW2 crashing during big fights

Vague Memory.2817

Same here. CTD. Usually in a WvW or the world events zerg. Usually it will throw up the report error window, other times that doesn’t even appear. I’ve repaired the game several times now to no avail. It’s really annoying, especially when I miss out on big rewards. I would say this started to happen about 2 months ago. Before that I didn’t have these issues. I know this has happened to several zerg leaders I was running with as well. CtD happens about 30-35min into play if in a big fight. However re-logging doesn’t necessarily result in a CtD. I have suspicions that the game may have memory leak issues.

Mesmer Vs Thief

in Mesmer

Posted by: Vague Memory.2817

Vague Memory.2817

I have to agree with the OP. I also find thieves hard to beat in WvW. They seem to know that they have the advantage against another light armour class, because they tend to go straight for the mesmer, especially when roaming or if you are trying to join a zerg. the thing I find hard is when they come out of stealth and crit hit me for about 3/4 of my health (I have between 18-19k).

If I see a thief first it’s more of a fair fight. Most of the time they surprise me from behind and I’m pretty much dead. Not particularly a fun fight. I tend to run a build similar to the PU power build and have 2300 toughness. In general I find the narrow field of view in GW2 to be quite off putting, especially for a kiting class like the mesmer. It’s the first MMO I’ve played that doesn’t allow significant zoom out, which I’m finding hard to get use to with a kiting class. Adding increased zoom out on the camera would likely help.

Hi, I check my combat log each time. The damage dealt by rapid fire were 48k (just now) and on another occasion 46K – instant death.

I am not up-scaled, as I mentioned before. I have just over 19K health, with a leaning towards a glassy build, but not totally so. As a mesmer you’re almost forced to go a bit glassy in WvW if you want to put down anyone higher than light armour.

To tell you the true I wasn’t sure if vulnerability was stacked on me, these deaths happened too fast to tell.

My character is wearing assassin exotic armour, but with some toughness on accessories. My toughness is 1443, armour 2363.

Vague Memory.2817

I mean seriously, I’ve been playing WvW recently and been killed with out being able to do anything at all. In particular the Ranger’s rapid fire skill: one death from one 46,000 damage, and another from 48,000. Thieves hitting for 15-16k damage from stealth, then stealthing to finish you off with another move. I rarely moan about balance, but when you don’t even have a chance to fight back, that just isn’t fun, or balanced. I’m not up-scaled, and have exotic gear.

This is particularly compounded by the poor field of vision in GW2. Great game, but you can’t even zoom out very far, meaning off screen attacks can happen especially when you are on high ground.

One/two shotting same lvl players that are decently gear can’t be right. Can it?
