It is just the way how the skills show up in the trait tree. Initially it looks like decoy was made a trait, but the window in the new spec tree is actually desperate decoy that produces the decoy effect at 50% health. The windows are the wrong way around which doesn’t help. The trait effect should be at the top.

Just noticed that boon stacking PU with Bountiful Interruption isn’t going to be possible, as BI (major trait) is now combined with GM trait CI, so you have to choose between PU and CI/BI. I used to like running BI with PU. PU will increase stealth duration by 50-100% (undecided) so that will give more boons for extra ticks, but there is nothing like pulling off an illusionary wave on a group and getting 3-4 interrupts (i.e. BI boons) stacking with PU.

The changes seem quite balanced considering what other classes are getting. I like that we may get a passive swiftness on Signet of Inspiration, also possibly a little more condi clearing, and increase of PU stealth.

I don’t like that DE was made a GM trait, seriously not many people run without it, so people will feel tied to Dueling specialization. They should have made it a baseline on-dodge skill if they want build diversity. Also I’m not impressed with the new mechanic to reduce some weapon cool downs. The greatsword skill reductions at 2% on spatial surge hit means you have to hit 10 times to get to the present value of 20%, this seems quite low considering we don’t know how this will stack, for how long, and if a ICD is involved.

AoE fields that are too big and spamable

in PvP

Vague Memory.2817

Do not talk about classes with low self condition cleanse in the second main paragraph if it’s not your main focus. AoE conditions gets “nullified” by the fact that there is usually a couple of Celestial classes that are able to perform AoE condition cleanse.

“On Topic”: I don’t think AoEs are big nor spammable. They may feel a little abussive in some circumstances due the Conquest nature. Some AoE can fill a good portion of the capture point but: a) they don’t do a lot of damage if they are spammable and b) tank or classes with high sustain are the ones to stay on point, therefore eating AoE is necessary if you want to capture a game.

Outside of the capture points I can even argue that AoE are too big, being this game mode so mobile. As I said, some of them can be very effective thanks to the capture points (grenades for everyone! Yey!).

So yeah, I don’t think they are big nor spammable. And again, don’t talk about classes with low condition cleanse if then you are going to be bad mannered to other player. Peace

I don’t think I was being bad mannered, if someone is asking irrelevant questions because they couldn’t be bother to read the post properly. Pretty much the same as you have done. Read the post again, I suggested that the big aoe field(s) should be reduced in size and spamability “or” give more condition removal to classes that have limited access to it.

“on topic”: thanks for your opinion. Peace to you too

I think legendary should give you something better than just a pretty skin. I reckon a special legendary skill for each type would be a good addition. A special slot so you can slot only one if you carry more than one legendary. Equivalent to a elite skill, for what that’s worth.

I’m talking about size and spamability of AoE condition fields. What are you talking about? My post is fairly self explanatory. You say cleansing is off the charts, and I mentioned classes with limited condition removal.

Every class has cleansing, only specs are limited which one are you talking about? Condition classes are complaining AoE cleansing is too much and you are stating the opposite so I want to see specific details of what you are trying to say.

It sounds like you are trying to be obstructive. I’m asking for peoples option on the thread topic, which you don’t seem to be very interested in. Devs have already stated numerous times that they gave certain classes weaknesses, one of these are condition removal, for example in Mesmers. The topic is not specifically on condition removal, or even conditions in general it is specifically on aoe field size and spamming. Do you have an opinon on this?

Some aoe fields are just too big in PvP, or can be spammed too frequently. I’ve pugged against some teams that can collectively cover the whole area in aoe conditions and usually there is just isn’t a way to get out quick enough without dying (especially with chill and immobilise thrown in the mix). I’ve noticed warriors can spam huge fire fields, eles with meteor shower, or engis that can spam small AoE fields so frequently it covers an entire capture point. No field(s) from a single player should be so big that you can’t even double dodge out of it.

This problem is even more exacerbated as Anet decided to design a few classes that have limited condition removal. No class should have minimal condition removal in a game that has conditions constantly flying all over the place. I would say reduce the largest fields so a double dodge can evade it, reduce the spamability of certain fields, or increase condition removals for classes that have few viable options.

I’m interested in knowing the community’s view on this.

I definitely see a pattern in when I get ascended, exotic and rare drops. I will literally get a bunch of these in a row and then nothing for about 2 weeks. The RNG software used in MMOs are usually pretty bad, that being said you ultimately can’t get away from the fact that true RNG doesn’t exist. It can’t be programmed, therefore non-random patterns and sequences will occur. Good RNG programs just make it less visible to us, but it is still there.

Is Mesmer really a good choice for beginners?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Vague Memory.2817

Vague Memory.2817

I’ve been playing Mes for about for about 2 years now in all game modes except fractals. My straight up honest option is no a mesmer is not a good beginner’s class to start with. The class requires a lot of patience and can be very frustrating, especially in any PvP. It takes a very long time to get use to the class mechanics, both its strengths and weaknesses.

I would say the reason why some people love this class is because it is hard to play, but it is hard to play because it has a bad class philosophy and punishing mechanics. Any class where you have to lose LoS to survive is inherently badly designed. On top of this the class has been nerfed pretty heavily, making it even more difficult to play. If you persist with Mes you will be rewarded, but that persistence will probably take about 1.5 years until you get to a place where you are happy with it (if it is your first class).

The main annoyances of the class are:

- Very limited condition damage removal, in a game that loves to plaster the entire ground with never ending aoes condition fields (PvE and PvP). Dying to conditions, including being immobilised while having conditions pile up, never gets old.

- Limited stability. Expect to be knocked around like a ping-pong ball if the wind pick up slightly.

- In and out of combat mobility is poor compared to other classes. Trying to keep up with other classes in say WvW requires some heavy traiting, or weapon changing that isn’t great for fighting. I’m running traveller runes for the permanent 25% speed boost in open world, but that means you never really get to experiment with rune builds

- In WvW and PVP your main nemeses will be thieves and (possibly) rangers. With thieves you can’t hit what isn’t there. Neither can your phantasms or shatters, more importantly you can’t actually put any of them up if you don’t have a target because they are in stealth, which usually makes you a sitting duck. I have a special build for these guys.

- Mes doesn’t really benefit from a glass cannon build, because the base damage is comparatively low, especially due to the relying on phantasms and clones for damage, which have low health pools (even when traited for). So they can die before they pull off their skill, or only get one shot off.

I played bunker guard in hotjoins the other day for fun. I assure you that there is no bunker in the game that can survive 3-4 average players for more than 30 seconds. Not only that, but bunker guard is AWFUL in this meta. If you can’t kill a cele on point with

Well I’ve experienced this several times in pugs, and I’m pretty sure most people who have played sPVP for a while will know what I’m talking about. We had 4 players hitting the ele and he/she just wouldn’t die. Personally I was running zerker with 25 stacks of bloodlust. The other people we had deposed of had time to run back from their base and picked us off.

I’ve beaten eles before, but they have a certain rotation that is timed right can make them unkillable, this includes knock downs, and wind interrupts. Eles are the worst but second are guards and on almost equal par engi.

Vague Memory.2817

I’m still baffled why Anet hasn’t even attempted to balance this already. One player likely an ele, guard or engi with builds that can tie up a team at one cap for what seems like an eternity. Some of these class builds don’t seem to have a downside to them. A mix of extreme in-combat mobility, evades, and ridiculous amounts of healing while still being able to do decent damage makes them pretty much invulnerable.

I truly am baffled why certain mechanics have been allowed to persist for so long. Not so much a battle of skill, as incredulity at how the devs thinks this is balanced.

I suspect the RNG in MMOs are not as good as everyone suspects they are. Software RNG are not truly random, it isn’t possible to program real randomness, however they are generally good enough to fool us. MMOs RNGs are probably the bottom of the line of all available software.

I have seen patterns in ascended drops that are not random. I have on several occasions recieved 2 or 3 ascended items in one play session and then not get anything for about a month or more. That isn’t random especially with such low drop rates.

Credit to Anet for the camera changes, but this should have been in-game from the very start. Death by camera in PvP is not fun, nor is having to micro-manage it every few secs if you are a kiting class.

But the kicker is a scrap isn’t even a guaranteed drop from each chest. I think I’ve open about 20 chests over the course of playing and have 5 ticket scraps. Just not worth it in my opinion. There should be a least a guaranteed scrap drop and a RND for a whole ticket.

Anet still no word of Build saver

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Vague Memory.2817

Vague Memory.2817

They already have a rudimentary system in place, for instance when you switch from PvE/WvW to sPvP or vice versa it remembers which equip/traits you had. The only reason I can think of why this hasn’t been implemented yet is they haven’t decided how to make money out of it yet.

It is such a useful feature that most games I play that require builds have had this already for quite some time. Because Anet has a BtP/transaction business model I suspect the reason why long asked for and easy-to-implement player features aren’t in game yet is either (1) It is something everyone would use but it may be hard to figure out how to monetise it, (2) Implementing a feature may possibly have a negative impact on a current revenue stream.

For instance, why would you make a fast action MMO that requires situational awareness and kiting and than have a camera that can’t zoom out enough so you can’t see where other people are, or environmental features like trees etc. can totally block your view? At a guess I would say point (2) above. Anet makes a lot of money from extensive character appearance customisations, so having a large camera zoom out (FoV) could detract from that and may impact sales. No matter how marginally.

I haven’t seen any evidence that it is an expansion. But if this is the case Anet should have squashed this rumour from the beginning, and the fact they haven’t is what has fuelled the speculation. Usually a future big release is surrounded by decent leaks (usually intentional), I’m not aware of any.

If this isn’t a massive update (expansion) I’m pretty sure the pitch fork and torches will come out, and rightly so. Given Anet’s tendency to over hype their actual releases, pitch folks and torches might be more exciting.

On a related note, I always thought Anet said the game would be free to play after initial purchase, so if this is still the case, then any big update should be free (as the others have been before it).

In PvP I would say a Mesmer has a fairly high skill threshold, you have to concentrate a lot to get the best out of them. Playing a Mes tired, tipsy, or not feeling particularly on-the-ball that day is going to lead to disappointing experience. I find the class can be quite unforgiving sometimes and has made me want to re-roll another class on more than one occasion.

in Profession Balance

I think the biggest issue with rapid fire and similar ranger skills is they have a heat seeking ability to follow you as you move. You can dodge, but when you come out of dodge the arrows are still hitting you. You can go into stealth and the arrows are still hitting you. If you don’t have easy access to block, reflect or extreme mobility you die without even getting close to a ranger. Bad balance is when you have to have specific builds to deal with one class that isn’t particularly good against other classes.

[PROs and CONs] New Trading Post

in Black Lion Trading Co

Vague Memory.2817

In general I’m happy the new UI’s appearance. I have a few issues with it though:

(1) Still takes too many clicks to sell one item after another from your inventory.

(2) The recent changed introduced with the last patch “match highest buyer” is fine for people who use this all the time, but I always base my price on the highest seller. So now I have to click that column every time I want to sell an item.

- Please either make this an option or let the UI remember your last column choice.

(3) It’s nice that it shows the order of your items in your inventory. What is annoying is that when you are working through all the items in your inventory it resets to the top of the list every time you make a sell order. This means you have to scroll all the way back down your inventory list to sell the next item.

- Please make this stay at the same place in the list after you sell/make a sell order.

(4) The up/down buttons for altering an item’s price is a great idea, but they are very small, which makes them hard to click.

Please make these buttons larger so it isn’t such a lottery when you try to use them.

(5) When you sell an item the whole UI is blocked by a big green window confirming the the order. I find this to be superfluous and quite annoying after each order. Why can’t the actual buy/sell order window change colour rather than placing another window on top of it that you then have to close.

- Order confirmation should be on the original buy/sell order window. Either just change its colour and have an OK button built in.

All of these changes are geared toward streamlining the selling of different items from your inventory without it taking too long. Currently it takes just as much work to sell many different items as the old UI.

Also I would include a few options from the old UI mentioned previously, e.g. Match your lowest price and projected profit was useful.

The speed of selling is about the same as the old UI due to the above. It is still a bit unintuitive to use.

So you’re running to your next fight in WvW or sPvP popping all your stealth for the chance of getting 3 sec swiftness, and when you do get into a fight all of your stealth skills are in cd (i.e no PU). Pity as it would be nice to try other rune sets, but I think I’ll stay with traveller’s.

This skill would have been so much fun if it was:

Copy the skill that your target is currently using (have 5-10sec to use). If a weapon skill was copied, your current weapon temporarily changes to that of the skill, until used.

That would be hilarious and useful, I would definitely slot that. But as Mimic stands I still don’t see a reason to slot it over my other go-to utility skills.

No it shouldn’t copy your foe’s skills because that would be problematic and sort of useless at times if they use an auto attack or a signet that has nothing to do with your mechanics.

Instead i think Mimic should work like Echo in Guild Wars 1 in which it copies your next skill you use for 5 or 10 seconds so you can use it twice. Maybe give it a 60 second cool down but i think that would be a lot more useful and desirable especially against heart seeker thieves that try to double backstab/leap or something.

That way you can choose to either heal twice, use chaos storm twice, use crowd control twice. It pretty much could turn any skill you have into a personal mantra. Perhaps they could move it to the elite slot and put Mass Invisibility in utilities? or Time Warp? So you wont be able to double Time Warp lol or Mass Invis or Moa Morph

edit: or make it immune to elites, that works too.

The chance of copying an AA is what the Devs would call balance. But once you know the tale-tale signs of another professions skills you could get something very useful.

I like the idea of using a skill twice, but I don’t think they are going to bring in any GW1 skills. If they were going to do that, they probably would have done that from the start of GW2.
