Adapt by creating a new class character, or adapt your thief build. The latter is far easier than trying to learn Mes. Mes is still one of the most challenging classes to learn. But good luck.

On your Warrior use Rampage, and on your Guard abuse OP burning stacks (like everyone else is doing). That’s all you need to know for fighting any class currently.

When Did I Start Cheering for Thieves??

Vague Memory.2817

Don’t start rooting for thieves just yet. Most are still running pre-patch builds with the new zerker amulets (i.e. no vit on them) making them hard hitting but super squishy. Their meta is changing. Once thieves start running more evade builds you will wish you had never made this thread. Imagine having on demand rolls that can remove conditions as well, that is essentially your evade thief. Their evade skills are possibly the most OP in the game at the moment. Most of these guys run with little stealth, that is how good it is.

Anyone using the Inspiration line?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Vague Memory.2817

Vague Memory.2817

I keep looking at the inspiration line and looks more like a team support line than anything else, and other classes can do this much better. The only reason I have been tempted to use it is because the devs have decided to stuff our best condi removal in there, but when I think about what else it offers it seems very weak compared to the other lines.

Has anyone found any real usefulness for this line in PvP?

On a side note I really dislike the fact that to keep this line alive, most of our condi removal is in there.

Well in PvP I’ve found good necros very hard to beat. Most can take a full on +4 power shatter with ease, have over the top sustain with shroud, access to immobilise/ movement impediments, hard hitting multiple conditions, life siphon/life transfer and Lich form. You probably would get more useful help in the necro forums on how to beat Mes, but I assure you well built necros are more than capable of taking most mes down. The only true weakness of a necro from a mesmer point of view is taking ranged damage. As for interrupts, they are not easy to pull off, and most necros I’ve played don’t seem too affected by it, unlike fast rotation eles.

Conditions need fixing urgently. I’m surprised the formulae for them haven’t been re-calculated already. In PvP most people running classes (Ele, Guard and Engi) with access to multiple burns skills are abusing the hell out of burning to cover up that they have no skill by destroying players with a passive effect. Getting multiple 1000-2300 burn ticks is ridiculous.

I’d rather they recalculate condition damage first, as that is having the biggest negative impact in PvP at the moment. Rewarding passive condi play with massive damage boosts is doing the opposite of apparently what they said they wanted for the game. This is why they removed Mes on death clone traits.

I had no issues with Mesmers prepatch because they were more predictable, not because they were underpowered – as we all know – they were still great duelists.

A convo with a Mesmer:
How many condi cleanses do you have?
“A lot, for starters I get 1 cleanse per clone shatter, I can shatter 3 clones.”
When do you use Distortion?
When I feel a burst is coming on, if I want to guarantee a burst myself, stomp or want to cast >insert high channel time skill<"
I don’t know how to outplay you.
“Yea, me neither lol.”

Even the Mesmer couldn’t offer me suggestions :/
That said, I’m not going to call something overpowered when i’m not entirely sure what that something is.

That player should have explained that mes don’t have many good condition cleansing outside of the inspiration trait line, which I personally find is the worst line of all.

This thread is so full of half-truths, disinformation and misinformation on what mes can and can’t do damage wise. I hope that the Devs ignore it and are only looking at live PvP combat and kitten their full combat logs for all classes to reveal what is out of balance. People talking about 20K insta death mesmers are generally referring to that dumb youtube video posted where a Guard is deliberately standing still and the Mes attempts many times to pull off a difficult hard hitting combo that downed the guard.

Youtube are strewn with different class combos which can quickly down a heavy practice golem after patch (this is effectively what those guys were doing). Ironically a Guard can also perform insta kill combos which I’ve experienced a few times first hand. I think some of the thread is based on genuine concern, but a lot of it reads like I don’t like fighting Mes so nerf them into the ground.

Hopefully the devs have enough intelligence to base any rebalancing around facts they determine from in-game, rather than some person who was half afk or didn’t realise he/she had a whole bunch of vuln stacks on them before getting insta downed. I play a lot of PvP and I have only been insta downed from full health (21.5K) in one match repeatedly since patch, and that was by a Guard, not a Mes.

Why is warrior damage so high?

Vague Memory.2817

This is what happens, you out play the Warrior using your blocks/invons/blinds/evades completely school him, War looks like losing your still 90-100% health and boom! “Rampagers” you have nothing left in the tank, War hits you once with a CC and next attack your dead. At best you will dodge 2 of there Rampager attacks then die, gl running away unless you have super speed with gap closers.

Rampagers rewards bad players, it’s not matter or L2P.

or did the warrior bait your defensive CDs then rampage outplaying you? or is it all a matter of perspective.

I knew someone would say this, ok next time I won’t use any of defensive skills and I’ll let him kill me outside of Rampagers.

So what you’re trying to say is when they use the F1 Hammer skill not to dodge it, or when they using there GS gap closers not to dodge it or even better someone else immobilize you and I shouldn’t use my invon I should just eat the damage and die there cause the warrior is trying to bait my defensive skills out. Yes that sounds about as smart as your comment.

And this is why I hate coming to forums.

i don’t know dude. seems like there is a big difference between popping your elite when the enemy has cds and when they don’t. that of course assumes the warrior is paying attention, as if they are it’s an outplay and if not it’s luck.

i’m just commenting on managing enemy cooldowns, i’m not telling you not to dodge earthshaker.

Srsly dude, you must live under a rock or live in a perfect world. You’re going to have skills on CD vs anyone and everyone it doesn’t matter what class you are, there was no baiting involved at all its matter of time. Almost every Warrior pops Rampagers when there buggered and that wasn’t matter of them baiting out cd’s or poor management from the other player.

Rampagers rewards bad players, the Warrior got schooled and in his last hopes pops a skill that rewards him for being bad.

You know what’s also sad about this statement? Mesmer can also reward bad players cause there’s nothing hard about doing 10k instant cast burst as you reposition and evade. Same concept can be applied to Ranger if it gets buffed or DPS Guardian.

At least Rampage itself already has a lot of counter play and outside of Rampage, Warrior has a lot even more. Those three classes that I mentioned can just spam evades while dps-ing and call it skill really.

Your Mes statement is misleading. Yes you can burst for about 10K with a full on power shatter, however your damage is broken into 4 parts: you and your three illusions. Each part can be killed, cc’d, or mitigated separately using the usual conditions/dodge etc., and the illusions have to run to the target in order to shatter if they aren’t very close.

Then consider that you have to generate those three illusions in first place, which requires using skills before hand to build the number up. There is a reason why mesmer is one of the harder classes to play. Also there are plenty of cues before a shatter happens and while it is happening. However mes do not have direct skills that can do 4-7K damage per hit like rampager even if they do crit, you have to work hard for your damage.

Offhand Sword is Better Than Ever

in Mesmer

Vague Memory.2817

I’ve never really liked off-hand sword especially in PvP and have barely ever used it. The phant has to run to get into melee distance of your opponent which means it tends to die faster to condition or direct AoE damage (especially in PvP were people are usually constantly moving). Ranged off-hand phants last longer. Also I think the block sucks because it only prevents one attack, if it were a 2-3 sec block to all direct damage it would give it more utility. The clone production as the OP mentioned with the new changes does offer some more interesting possibilities, but in my opinion the other off-hands just offer more utility and more survivable phants.

Some people using other classes were use to beating most Mes in PvP with ease. Now the playing field has been levelled a bit they don’t like it. Saying that I haven’t experienced any greater degree of rage after patch than I did before. From my experience warriors are the worst bad losers. Some of those guys will chew you out after you’ve beaten them fair and square in 1v1s. They find it insulting getting beaten by a Mes. I’ve found that in the moments when I get “into the zone” I’ve pulled off some crazy stuff. Even got accused of botting by some, and that was before the patch. People who persist with Mes are eventually rewarded, but it takes quite some time.

I main Mes, I find fighting Mes easy

in PvP

Vague Memory.2817

A lot of people here are blowing hot air about PU without really knowing how it plays out. I usually play a PU Mes, and in sPvP you don’t get as much stealth up time as people think by looking at the raw values.

I recently starting playing without PU and haven’t noticed much of a difference, why? Simply because when you attack you break stealth. I’ve found that if you are in fight as a Mes you want to constantly apply as much pressure as possible without pause, which means you can’t really take a stealth break in the middle to recover, as your opponent can do the same. This culminates in being in stealth about half the time now allowed by PU, which is effectively the same as not running PU at all.

Throw reveal into the mix and PU it isn’t as good as people think it is. Sure it is good for running away, but so is blink, or another other classes’ traits for evasion. Another factor to consider, is power PU builds are a squishy as hell, and your only real defense is stealth and the boons from it, but more importantly your own rotations and reflexes.

With the new specs Mes has more burst now, but you still have to set up clones/phants for a decent shatter, which in no way approaches the easier burst what a thief can apply with a one skill 10K backstab or heartseeker, or the 3-4K per hit a Guard can do. I think the Mes rage stems simply because people find the class annoying to fight because it can have illusions and stealth. Though probably less annoying than a ranger who finds a safe perch from which to burst people down at max range when most of your skills are on cd.

For those that haven’t played a Mes I would describe most builds as traditional glass cannon with all the strengths and weaknesses that entails. Unlike some classes that don’t have to sacrifice defense/sustain for damage and get the best of both worlds for example Guard, Ele, Necro, and possibly Engi.

I’d imagine it is always easy if you have the option of standing at max distance from your opponent. For the record as a mes I find the majority of rangers easy to take down. With the exception of when I’m in a fight 1v1-1v3 and one rapid shots me from off the screen with rapid fire when I’m on low health. I think Anet was silly creating a class with high damage and requiring low play risk.

The game window that popped up on crash informed me (after pressing for details) of an Exception error involving a problem with writing to memory addresses. To me this was an indication that there was problem with my ram. I did some ram tests and found that 1 of my sticks was bad. I removed it and the game is fine now. No crashes. I’m not saying this is the cause of all crashes, but if the crash details states it cannot write to a memory address this might be a probable cause.

Burning from the maths

Well the Devs have already stated that conditions are doing more damage than intended. You have to remember condition damage is passive, if it equals direct damage (which actually takes more skill to do) you’re taking a lot of skill out of the game. The Devs kept saying they wanted more active play damage in game, so why they introduced these levels of untested condi damage is beyond me. For the record no way should passive condi damage equal direct damage, it should be attritional only, so you have to work for your damage like everyone else.

Also I have regularly seen 5-6 stacks of burning on players, and more if they have been immobilised/dazed/stunned/knocked down. This is may be okay for classes that can have lots of condi clearing, can hit like a brickhouse, and still having plenty of sustain. But that is not always the case.

Everyone has been watching that dumb video when a guard was standing still and the Mes had to try several times to try and pull this this off. Trust me I play Mes that combo is not easy to pull off, but either way a whole bunch of skills and definitely conditions need to be toned down. I got consistently spiked down from 21.5K health by a Guard in one PvP match using an unbelievably fast combo that I can only put down to some kind of programmable mouse or macro.

I’ll add if you’ve become very good at fighting with a broom handle, god help everyone when you get hold of a sword. Mes are definitely not OP, we’ve learnt to use underpowered tools, and dodge/kite with a sliver of health for so long that any beneficial skill tweaking pays big dividends to the dedicated player.

Sorry, just feel the need to change one thing. There x)
- condition necro is out of the picture
1. necro condition—bleed [formula] is weaker than before patch for the grave sake, and staff bleeding was nerfed ^^

- power necro
1. Unless you are referring to our “unholy” 15-20 seconds elite — lich form, with 120 or 180 seconds cd, that can hit 7k to light armour with a zerk necro? :X
2. Or the return of conditions back to the owner… >.>… that is not even our damage to begin with… we are a soaking sponge, or perhaps a condi mirror after the patch.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH-aB4mwAOk

In anyway, I don’t mean to call for nerf. But, I do agree and believe that balance is always the key for a fun game, where classes have their own uniqueness, but yet not OP when compared to an overall comparison (even if one day necro will truly becomes OP in some ways, balance is needed). Gosh, i spoke (i mean typed) too much… in anyway, just to clear one thing up; don’t include necro in ridiculous dps and burst.

Until last night I hadn’t come across any eles abusing the broken conditions. But it seems like that burns build is catching on, so sure add them to the list. I did come across 1 team yesterday when I was in a pug that had an Mes (for stuns/interrupts?), Engi using broken grenade barrage, Ele using the burns build, and the Guard using some inhumanly fast combination that was an insta kill (which he could pull off without fail). Can’t remember what the 5th class was. Essentially they were a premade that was going through ranked killing pugs by abusing all the broken conditions/skills currently in-game. One even had the audacity to say we shouldn’t be playing in ranked, despite none of our members abusing these OP broken builds.

I’ve not come across any mes in sPvP who can pull off that combination in the video, in fact the guy in the vid couldn’t do it reliably either. Empirically I’ve not met any OP Mes in sPvP that can down me instantly from 21K health.

Fortunately most of the people I’ve met in ranked aren’t using these obviously broken conditions/skills for cheap wins. I included necros because currently they are now likely one of the hardest classes to beat in sPvP. Their combination of silly sustain (usually requiring 2 or 3 players to bring down a good one) with their siphon/wells etc abilities they can drain my 21K health in secs. If that is not burst I don’t know what is.

Well in PvP your phantasms don’t last very long to dps. Since clone death traits have been removed, it is better to shatter them than let them go to waste to aoe etc.

The distortion (if you trait them right) helps them survive better than ever. And by the time your phantasms die, you’re seconds away from summining another one.

Trust me Phants still don’t last very long in sPvP even with protection and distortion traited.

Traditionally you would sacrifice defense for more dps, or dps for more defense. This inherently created it’s own balance. Risk is rewarded by skill. But we have a situation where some classes can (especially after the last patch) have ridiculous sustain and deal very good damage.

I would say from my recent sPvP play through this applies to Necro (obscene sustain through shroud), Guards, and Eles. If I risk defense for going zerker/Assassins (i.e. low vit and toughness). I expect to be able to break a tank through skill, but if I can’t then that character should be hitting like a wet paper bag.

Maybe the over the top conditions buff from the patch are exacerbating the matter, but something seems conceptually wrong with allowing class builds to exist that appears to be good at everything, with little downside.

Use skill scrolls on new characters now?

Vague Memory.2817

So the conversion of skill points to spirit shards happens with tomorrow’s patch, when the new hero point system for skills come in.

Presumably skill scrolls will will be converted to spirit shards as well.

From what I remember when making a new lvl 80 character from tomes was that using all the skill points from levelling up wasn’t enough to activate all the utility skills and I had to use skill scrolls to do so.

So is it better to use these skill scrolls now on new characters so we get these skills conversion/refund into hero points?

I’m guessing any skills unlocked on a character tomorrow will also be unlocked after the patch.

You are guessing wrong.

Answer is NO, don;t use your skill scrolls on unlocking skills today unless you want to risk losing out on the spirit shards they might provide.

The refund to hero points is not based on the amount of skills you have unlocked. Hero points are limited per character and will depend on your level (max at 80) and skill challenges completed.

EDIT: going to leave this here http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hero_point

Why am I guessing wrong?

Also spirit shards are account wide, and I have about 1300 already gained skill points on 1 character. So I’m not so bothered by having a few more spirit shards from scrolls. However according to the link you provided utility skills will cost 5 hero points and elite 15 points each.

So my question is would it be better to acquire those skills before the change for new characters rather than wait to find out you’ve don’t have enough hero points to get all the utility skills. The devs have already said that you won’t be able to unlock everything from hero points gained from levelling alone. Which is also true from the current system for skill points.

Skill points now that become spirit shards have NOTHING to do with hero points and skills under the new system.

Use those skill point scrolls now, unlock skills with them = very likely lose the potential spirit shrads from them and not get any skills tomorrow since NOTHING you unlock now stays unlocked.

Reread the link. You seem to have skipped half of what is happening.

EDIT: here I’ll try to make this as simple as possible. Once the patch hits tomorrow we:

- get a completely new UI for traits and skills
- have EVERY skill and trait LOCKED (anything you unlock now IS LOST!)
- gain x amount of hero points depending solely on character level and amount of skill challenges completed (thus hero points are caped at currently aproximately 620 or so)
- lose all current skillpoints to:
A.) converted to hero points in the new system if they were from leveling or skill challenges
B.) converted to spirit shards if aquired through levels post 80 or skill point scrolls

Actually you have misread What I said. I never said shards are related to hero points at all. You’ve totally didn’t grasp my question on two counts.

However my question has essentially been answered in this thread:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Skill-points-and-Spirit-Shards/page/2#post5188919

A quick update on this one -> After feedback from presenting the original hero point count – we decided getting to level 80 will give you enough hero points to unlock all the core skills and traits entirely. Doing hero challenges (aka skill challenges) will simply allow you to earn all the skills/traits earlier before level 80. With the release of HoT, there will be options to spend the excess hero points earned from doing hero challenges in the world.

There are a number of other changes on 6/23 to make the experience from 1-80 more exciting, better-paced, rewarding, and fun as well after having the time to evaluate and player feedback from the updates last year.

Use skill scrolls on new characters now?

Did Anet foresee HoT price pandemic?

ANet is a company with share holders which like any other business will try to make as much profit as possible without upsetting their customers (too much). Sometimes companies get this right and sometimes they get this wrong. Ultimately which one this is will not be determined by forum fury, but by how much revenue is generated compared to that which was projected.

Sometimes a perceived profit loss will lead to concessions to the customer(s). In this case I think they will use the preorder purchases levels to determine if they give a concession or leave it as it is.

The "entitlement" meme needs to stop

Usually the term entitlement is used by North Americans. I come across it in other game, political and news forums quite often. People who use it tend to believe in a dog-eat-dog world or survival of the fittest, and is used derogatively to denote people who want something for nothing. But is commonly brought up in relation to any social benefits provided by the government to people who have hit a bad patch or live in poverty. Likely this is not applied to people who have served in the military. Personally I think it is related to the delusional notion of the American dream. No offense intended.

Truth be told, this item should never have made it into the gem store anyway. I doubt the extractor is a high selling item for reasons you mentioned. There should be an in-game method for being able to do this, even if it meant the extracted runes are account bound.

Don’t worry, by the time this change comes into being all the rings you deleted or sold will be replenished…3-fold.

The Chronomancer passive speed increase is obviously very nice, but it’s tied to a trait line. Taking into account the new specialization system it will be far more difficult to swap out on the fly than say a signet would. Also HoT isn’t getting released any time soon.

Ascended Gear now 10% Stronger than Exotics

Personally I don’t find this a big deal, and I only have 1 crafted ascended armour set. My biggest gripe is ascended crafting is very grindy because of the time-gate on ascended materials. If they got rid of that I would be tempted to craft more, but at the moment the cost and time-gating together are too painful.

None of those solutions sound satisfactory to me. I think I’ll stick with Travelers. If the swiftness was every 10sec it would be perm swiftness and non-stacking, as it would run out as new swiftness was applied. There would be no overlap, bar outside sources.

If Swiftness was 10s base, then it would be 13s with 30% Swiftness duration granted from Pack or Air runes, plus whatever other sources of Boon duration you can muster.

That means every time SoI cycles it would cast another 13s Swiftness, and quickly add up to 2m or whatever the cap is. The only way to avoid that would be to break it the way they broke our Focus, making it not play nice with other Swiftness which IMO would be worse than the 5s base thing.

Perma Swiftness is stupid, perma-any-Boon is if you ask me, it defeats the purpose of boons. As Pyro said, 50% uptime is fine. It’s not wow, but it’ll do compared to our current choices. I would much rather run Pack or Air runes then Travelers any day of the week, and twice on Sundays.

Perma swiftness is just that, permanent, duration increases don’t make it even more permanent.

It may be fine for you guys but it isn’t for me. Some in the Mes community are very good at expecting little, and happy with getting less in return.

And some of us are very good at demanding ‘We want more more more!! Whatever you give us isn’t good enough!’

We got enormous access to cripple in the new traits. This allows us to have drastically better control over the mobility of fights we’re in. Combined with solid uptime ok swiftness, this makes Mesmer mobility in a fight pretty fantastic.

If you’re not in a fight, you’re not in combat. Quit being lazy, swap on a focus, press 4, and swap it back out. Congratulations! You’ve achieved 100% swiftness uptime by using 3 buttons!

It not quite being lazy, as being impractical and clumsy. In WvW a few times I being running back to the Zerg with a focus for speed and been jumped. Really not the best weapon (especially untraited) to be caught out with. I’d rather just have a full passive on a signet since we don’t have a build saver.
