Not sure why I’m getting lots of lag in the personal story areas, but not in the rest of the game. Getting 17 fps.

There is more then enough content (if they get their crap together and release it .. cough raids cough) to keep everyone busy without time gating the Elites. We have Raids, Guild Halls, New Maps (for all modes), Fractals, Legendaries, Adventures, Events, Masteries, and I’m sure I’ve missed a few. I don’t see how time gating the Elites is productive, how does it affect anyone if you do it as a Necro or a Reaper for example. If they wanted to do something for elites they should have done a quest line of some sort.

The bottom line is, it hurts nothing to have elites playable, the rest of the content is still the same regardless of which class/spec you are using. There is simply no need and all this has done is divide the community and ticked off a lot of players. This is suppose to be an exciting time for GW2 and instead they have managed to turn it into a witch hunt.

This is one of the most lucid and honest post in the entire thread.

I am trying to recall a single MMORPG where an expansion handed out everything you expected to get with it up front, rather than making you earn it. I can’t think of a single one, and this sense of entitlement just truly baffles me.

Entitlement?

We were told what to expect. People planned for that and did the work asked of them. Whether you liked it or not we knew the upper boundary.

Then they changed it. Not us.

What? They did not change anything since they have not until now given a number.

They stated world completion was the max. Until the datamine of 170 most people were assuming 100 HPs would be a good number to guess at. When we saw the 170 (which again many did not believe) and the progression for a typical profession I realized I could not get everything right away but about 120 would give me a good starting build.

Can you source that? Because i don’t think they said that, I think assumptions were made. That being the case, if they DID change that, because I won’t swear they didn’t, I have the following thoughts on that:

1. It IS uncool to change the info this late in the game. So if they said different before now, then yeah, I agree it’s uncool.

2. However, sometimes changes have to be made, for whatever reason: health of the game, technical issues, other stuff. It’s highly unlikely they are changing things just to make things a pain in the rear for us.

Wanna know something? I kinda thought we would have our elites unlocked if we had done all the hps in the core world, and I would have preferred it that way, so I could use my elites fully at the very beginning of HoT. That being the case, though, I don’t consider this a bad thing.

My problem is the massive rage we are seeing here. The sheer levels of it is ridiculous. If someone said “I’m not happy with this,” I could understand, but people are just burn-the-building-down angry, and it’s flat out unreasonable.

I do not recall the URL offhand but anet specifically said we could run the new content with elites if we had world completion.

Yes that’s correct. But… that was also around the time they stated you needed an additional 65 HPs to unlock the new core spec system. So basically anybody with World Completion were home free when they eventually release the Elite specs. But when they changed it so that just leveling to 80 would give you enough Hero Points to unlock core traits & utilities with no need for the additional 65 points, the whole “World Completion will unlock everything including elite specs” statement went out the window.

Unlock the elite spec, not entirely master it. I can unlock the elite spec and have it half mastered soon as I log in with my main. Unlocking it isn’t the same as getting everything in it.

I’ll pay 1 gold to the first person who can actually find a quote FROM ARENA NET that says that day 1 the elite spec could be entirely mastered.

1 gold doesn’t sound very confident. How about upping that to 1000g.

You save up to buy your dream car. You buy it primarily because it has features that are much better than your current car. Three days before you receive your spanking new joy ride the manufacturer contacts you by email (well after the refund date has expired) and tells you that several of its best features (the most desirable ones) will only become available once you have driven it for 20K miles. I would totally understand why those customers were not happy with the manufacturer, or indeed the car.

I haven’t heard one good reason why we were only told 3 days before launch. This indicates that they knew it wouldn’t go down well and were happy to let people believe they would have access to elite spec on launch. Maybe they thought it would affect HoT sales, who knows. They could have mentioned this at any time before now but choose not to. I call skulduggery and shenanigans of the highest order.

I bet if the player had a option to fully unlock elite spec for 200 or 400 hero pts, 98% of people who say they don’t see a problem with it or actually prefer it at 400pt would pick the 200 pt option. End of story.

That’s barely a grind IMO. You will get all hero points in a couple of hours of NEW area exploration.

I highly doubt it. If you played any of the BWEs you will need gliding and mushroom jumping to get around the map properly, and these will take a lot more than a couple of hours to achieve.

New personal story gives you quite a bit of exp. Just do first mission on all your characters and you will already have gliding, shroom jumping and probably even updraft in a couple of minutes.

Sorry, but that is false. I did the first part of the story mission and played over 8 hours doing events (when they were available) to get lvl 1 gliding and lvl 1 mushroom jumping. Leveling masteries took a long time in the BWE3 because not many things gave good exp.

So the elite spec has been gated (even more), but the real question is are the new hero challenges going to be gated behind certain masteries. I doubt they are going to line all these hero points up on the yellow brick road in the first area. Likely a lot of these will require different levels of gliding and mushroom jumping, and god knows what else.

Imagine if this info was given before HoT pre-orders started, how much less money you would’ve made. Well played Anet, giving the info people have been asking for 3 days before launch. You’ve soured my mood going into the expansion, and that’s not easily done.

I have 11 characters that I was excited about playing and using elite specs on them. Now there’s no way I’m going to grind PvE for all of these characters, what a waste. If there was some sort of account-wide unlock, where I do a small quest line for, I would’ve been fine with it. But expecting me to grind for each character, that’s just unacceptable and very not-GW2 like.

I’m disappointed Colin, and right now I should feel excited about the expansion, but this news 3 days before launch have soured my mood.

I have to agree, this smells very fishy. Three days before launch and they lay this on us, after they maxed out HoT sales.

This is not grind…this is playing content to unlock the class.

Had Arena Net decided to gate these behind the personal story, it would have been effectively the same thing. Gating access behind content.

This…this is the most normal thing in the world.

Get to level 80, then play the expansion to unlock the class.

Right? I feel like people have become so entitled they don’t want a game anymore. They just want to hit character create and have everything in the game maxed out for them and done.

That is so condescending. I don’t call map completion, all skill point challenges in Tyria, and buying HoT in the first place entitlement.

Who thought it was a good idea to add 200pts more than required for all 3 beta weekends to unlock the elite. This is dumb. Even with map completion and all skill point challenges in Tyria done, I’ll be 197 pts shy of a full elite unlock. You guys had it right in the first place and now you spoilt it for no good reason. We already have masteries to keep us in HoT areas, why do people need even more annoying incentive.

400 pts to unlock elite is outrageous. A bit sneaky too, as for all 3 beta weekends I had points left over after unlocking the elite, but now 3 days before launch they slap a few hundred more on. I have map completion and all skill point challenges in Tyria done too on my main, and I’ll now be short by 193pts. I think a lot of people are going to be ticked off they can’t play their elite properly when HoT launches. I know I am. What is the point of this?

Playing Mes I don’t find good Necros easy to fight. You have to fight ranged, but it takes a long time to take to wear one down due to shroud’s health and 50% damage reduction tankiness. Also keeping ranged with mobility inhibitor conditions on you and a necro with +25% speed signet is pretty tough. It is doable but you can’t screw up your positioning. Running a power mes I sometimes find that by the time I almost kill a necro one of his buddies turn up because it is fairly drawn out fight.

Adding the trapper rune to PvP doesn’t seem sensible. Melee rangers are already hard to pin down due to leap speed, evasion speed and Quickening Zephyr (6 sec superspeed).

Adding trappers:

When you use a trap skill, you gain 3 seconds of super speed and 3 seconds of Stealth when using a trap skill.

A bit over the top, and a real balance issue as the rune currently stands. In general this obviously adds a significant advantage to all trap classes.

It’s been a long time since I levelled a character without tomes. But from what I remember they were level gated so you had to gain a few levels from doing other stuff (hearts and events) before you could continue it. In the HoT personal story we are already lvl 80 gaining progression horizontally through masteries, so does that mean we can go right through our personal story without pause? Or maybe we have to gain certain masteries first.

This is just an idea. I’ve read a lot of people say Legendaries weapons are not very legendary. You can change stats and you get a nice skin. But something seems to be missing to me. Like a unique skill (slot) that is useful but not OP (a bit like most of the elite skills). I think it would add more flavour to them. If you have several equipped legendaries you can choose 1 skill from among them for the slot. Btw I don’t actually have any, but it would make me more likely to want one.

How is Experience Gating exciting?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Vague Memory.2817

Vague Memory.2817

Not is it only a lot of XP, but I spent most of BWE3 in Verdant Brink and the XP gain was terrible. Forget about killing mobs for xp because the amounts rewarded were tiny. Events were the only way to get enough xp to make the mastery bar visibly move, however most of the events were at night, and they run out. It did feel very grindy, and most of the jungle is gated off until you level certain masteries.

Hopefully the full map won’t give that feeling like you are doing the same things over and over again. It did make me think that xp boosters won’t help much because the gains are so small, you wouldn’t notice the difference.

The OP should gives reason why he/she thinks this. I play a lot of PvP and when I look at my combat logs the highest burst damage classes are burn Guards, Warrs, burn Engi, and Necros. I don’t have any problems with almost instant burst downs from 21K from other Mes. Also Mes have received a disproportionate amount of nerfs already. Any more would revert Mes back to pre-patch levels.

Example when Microsoft release a new Xbox (i.e. HoT) it is hyped long before it comes out, but when they are a week away from launch they don’t announce they are giving away free xbox coffee mugs (i.e. the halloween event) on the same day and not mention the new Xbox (i.e. HoT) at all. Second, presuming that it is intended, I can understand why the lock out occurs until you accept but why lock you out until everyone accepts?

This is particularly annoying when not everyone accepts and you have to wait until it times out, and this can happen several times in a row. During this time you cannot access anything else.

Salvaged mats economy to be DESTROYED

Oh my. Other MMOs don’t try and control player driven markets for good reason. Because once you enter that spider’s web you just create more problems than you solve. The only way markets work properly is if you allow them to find their own equilibrium. Over regulation kills markets. Creating scarcity sounds like players end up with the short end of the stick and creates more grind.

Actually they do. When I played WoW they constantly tinkered with drop rates and material requirements for crafted items

Well most other MMOs I’ve played (never played WoW) only changed drop rates because people complained some things were too rare or/and to increase how much money they make from paid for chance loot boxes. Too my knowledge none of them have said they deliberately try to manipulate player driven markets on normal drops or mats (i.e. things that do not come out of cash chance loot boxes).

One would naturally suspect that manipulation of a player driven economy for mats can only be for the benefit of the company. In this case, given Anet’s past decisions to directly reduce the amount of gold in the economy by reducing money from champ bags, chests, and monster kills that they are manipulating the market for their own ends only. I mean seriously, why would you reduce the number of salvage mats when you know demand is going to go up because some of the same mats needed for ascended crafting will also be needed in the new precursor crafting system.

If the range finder is showing green you should be able to teleport to that location. At the moment it shows green even when you can’t teleport somewhere. This is especially annoying in PvP when you blink to get range on a fast moving heavy hitting class (like warrior or guard), only for it to fail and you end up downed when you could have turned the fight around. Also although I haven’t test it, from my experience it seems as though at certain distances and angles it also causes failure despite no apparent obstructions.
