Considering all the new things add from elites to unintended broken combos, there really should be more frequent balance patches. But it seems their attention is elsewhere concentrating on minority niche gameplay like esports and raids. I think they have it backwards. They should be spending more time on elements that affect everyone, one of those being class balance.

Anyone else notice a bug with well range?

This happens with blink as well. The reticle will be green but you can’t blink to that position, resulting in numerous deaths.

Dodges and evades are the most useful abilities in PvP, and they have been handed out like candy with HoT. I regularly see DDs just using there staff stomp skill in PvP to great effect because of the evade built into it.

All I’m hearing is I play an op elite, and like to be able to kill everyone when outnumbered, so please don’t change reaper because it will means it will require more skill to play. Therefore it is balanced.

I would say Chrono is at position 5 with DD among the elites, behind DH, Rev, Scrapper and Reaper.

If your going into pvp with “limited” stability or stun break options you really should stick to pve, skill sets are based around pve and pvp, you can’t really use pve dmg dealing skills in pvp, at least not without sacrificing something else, like utility or stability options.

Seems like you are new, but certain classes have been designed to have limited access to stability.

The point is you shouldn’t even be able to do this because DH traps are so powerful. On top of that some classes have very limited stability options.

There are plenty of DDs around, not sure about zerkers though. It would help if they added the new profession icons to the PvP scoreboard UI.

Well as I said the trait swaps are flexible. I just gave the above as an example. The point is to disperse the master traits a bit. The reason for the line is condition removal/healing, so putting RI in competition with other good traits is daft imo. I mean why should someone have to chose between removing a condition on shatter, focus cool down or phant defense. All three of those traits are very good in PvP and WvW. A few of the other traits in the line are pretty much not used that much or are junk, so why create the unnecessary competition.

The annoying thing about the Inspiration line is it is our go to line for condition removal, but even more annoying is is the bad grouping in the Master trait line.

Master traits:

Warden’s Feedback (WF) – minus 20% cd for focus weapon + reflects projectiles.

Restorative Illusions (RI) – condition removal on shatter.

Protected Phantasms (PP) – phant distortion with protection (-33% damage on creation).

The thing is if you take inspiration, it is likely you wanted it specifically for power cleanse and Restorative Illusions. Taking Restorative Illusions competes with two of the other best traits in Inspiration (WF and PP). The placement of these three traits at master’s level isn’t necessary and annoying as hell.

I suggest swapping RI with the master minor Inspiring disortion (this is logical as the other two minors are also healing traits – and it is primarily a healing line).

Then swap Persisting Images (adept trait) with PP, or swap Illusionary Inspiration (grandmaster trait) with WF.

The ultimate aim being splitting the 3 best inspiration traits up so you can at least take 2 of these together, so which traits are actually swapped is flexible.

I’m trying to figure out what this thing is. On several occasions in a PvP match I must hit something like an invisible barrier or wall that does a knockback that lasts for a few secs but doesn’t do any damage. The effect is very much like Guardian’s Ring of Warding and Line of Warding, but it is totally invisible. You just keep getting knocked down but don’t know why. Anyone know what skill this is?

Why didn’t they just leave ranked as it was until the league was ready. I don’t understand the reason why they had to pull it a month before. I mean they didn’t say hey guys we are working on a new expansion called HoT so we are going to pull the core game until it’s ready, but in the meantime you can play SAB instead.

I don’t get why people are making out that warrs are like at the bottom of the pile now. They are still the fastest hard hitting class out there. I just came out of a match were the opposite team’s warr was chewing up everyone that came into his path.

Standard enemy models in unranked

If we have to suffer unranked for another month until leagues come out at least turn on standard enemy models. Fighting against the smallest possible Asura that people can make, is getting old. They are barely visible in fights and you can’t see any of the few tell signs left in the game.

Actually I think the order of the most popular classes played is pretty much bang on. That’s what I’ve been seeing in unranked too. I think it comes down too people choosing the highest burst classes and the very mobile hard to hit classes (that can also do high burst). I main chrono, and yes it is pretty strong, definitely stronger than standard mes, but not as strong as the top classes when it comes to damage and sustain.

I think the main weakest of Mes is condition removal, not helped by the buff to condi application, damage and stacking limit increase. If you want decent condition removal you have to pick a particular trait line, and that means gimping your damage. Probably equal to limited condition removal would be phantasms/clones (the main source of mes damage) dying pretty much to AoE as soon as they are created, lowing burst potential. Also power mes doesn’t have the sustain of the top elite classes. All this adds up to is a lower general damage and sustain class that requires more effort and skill to kill some of the other elites. Chrono is definitely viable, but is suffering from an outdated class philosophy. Basically there are easier classes to play that are more rewarding for less effort, especially for new players.

If it means I can play Teq and a full WvW map without crashing I’ll be happy. What bothers me though is why would a 32bit game run out of memory. It doesn’t make sense that a game would require more memory than the max limit allowed under certain conditions.

Having an elite spec is obviously better than any of the old specs. How can anyone really argue it isn’t. That is why it is called elite.

I thought from an early Chrono poi that they said F5 would make us invuln. I was using it for stomping and wasn’t getting interrupted, but realise now it must of been blinding dissipation.

Am I wrong though? Yes a bunch of new abilities were added to the game, but games need this from time to time or they become stale and boring. Anet is going to be trying hard to balance PvP for the Pro Leagues and tournaments coming up. They said more balance patches and more often. Now is the time to offer constructive feedback, actual numbers, and real information. If all you do is come to the forums to complain about how the new abilities/specs added to the game broke it, then what will that fix?

Yes you are wrong. You are totally ignoring the fact they made this avoidable mess in the first place. This isn’t about having new skills and mechanics in the game, this is about not testing anything before putting it in the game. Exacerbating current game play issues and then creating more problems. Then leaving it like this to fester for weeks until they can retroactively sort it out.

You say to offer constructive feedback, but really are people who think adding copious additional amounts of damage, stacking, evades, teleports, superspeed, quickness, invulns, blocks, low skill threshold gameplay, and new runes/amulets all in the pot at the same time (hoping somehow it will magically balance out) really listening. I could write a 3 essay on what is currently wrong, but should I really have to.

Anyone with common sense knows if you add all these things at once untested it will break what is left of balance. BTW I never said I was quitting the game, I said I was considering dropping PvP, so please read before making a fanciful story up.

Hi. Like the OP I only come to the forums to complain. I like to call the devs names and belittle them while saying their game that I play is crap. I offer no constructive criticism, no real information on the topic, and definitely no way to fix the problems I come here to complain about. Once I am done complaining I will threaten to quit the game because they fixed nothing I have been complaining about. Not only that, I like to complain about very vague and general things, like an expansion being added to the game. I want the game to remain the same as it was when I liked it and was doing well as I am not able to adapt to any changes made. I am 90% of forum posts and offer nothing to the community. I appreciate the well thought out answer (@Cogbyrn). Not used to that in the PvP section. Thing is I’m not a new player. There has to be a threshold level where it feels like no effort has been put into PvP game play. It just isn’t enjoyable to play it at the moment.

I guess someone could say adapt and overcome, but what that really means it you can’t beat them, join them. I don’t think abusing broken classes or builds is fun because they have a low skill floor, and personally I don’t find it satisfying beating another player knowing there was nothing they could do about. A few people don’t find that a problem though, a win is a win them. To me, if I know I’ve played well that makes it fun.

The problem with balance in PvP at the moment is the devs just keep adding more and more variables into the mix, making it increasing difficult to balance, or even to pin down problems. For instance they introduce a whole bunch of elites with new skills etc. (untested) and then at the same time threw in a whole bunch of new runes and sigils. This makes no sense if you are trying to produce a balanced game. In science you you never add so many new variables at once because you can not predict the unintended relationships between them, making it almost impossible to have a desired outcome.

You only give very large changes a week and a half or so to settle before deciding you’re playing perfectly, and it must be the game’s fault?

You’re doing yourself a disservice.

I play and have played a lot of PvP, when 21K health feels like you are made of paper, or you can only land 3 hits in a 1v1 because of the obscene amount of mobility, evades and invulns I don’t think you have to wait until things settle, because that is what is happening now.

I’ve played several games where a daredevil was literally just using rolls and the stomp/evade skill, and was doing really well. There just doesn’t seem to be any common sense or testing of this stuff at all. Having rev, daredevil, or engi immortal builds is obviously not good for PvP, nor is massive boon or condition stacking. I regularly see might or vulnerability stacked up to 20. I’m genuinely baffled what game play design or philosophy (if any) the devs are using. It’s like a bunch of 8 year olds got together and said I know this would be cool to have and gave no thought to tell signs or counterplay.

Can we make DH True Shot unblockable?

Matches are just horrible at the moment. Too many untested elites and skills in the game. Absolutely no intelligence, effort or pretence has gone into balance in the game. The devs have poured ample amounts of evades, damage, stacking, evade speed, superspeed, leaps, quickness into PvP with no regard to how it plays out. PvP just feels in general broken to me. It beggars believe they could release such a shoddy PvP product and think it is acceptable or even fun.

I think one of two things happened. Either the devs sat down and said how do we make PvP the most irritating game mode to play, or they didn’t talk to each other at all leading to the same result. PvP balance is in the biggest mess since the game launched. I can’t believe any of this junk was tested properly before HoT released. Evade builds leading to no or little opportunity to hit, ridiculous amounts of might and vulnerability stacking and one weapon one skill game play. They keep mentioning active play and counterplay, but make elites that are the opposite. PvP really isn’t fun to play any more.

So I had the Black wing backpack skin before the combo backpack + glider HoT pack. In order to unlock the glider skin, for those who bought it before the combo pack, you are supposed to have it equipped and speak to a scout. I’ve followed these instructions several time but the glider skin just won’t unlock.

Has anyone successfully managed to do this, and if so how?

They need their sustain reduced that’s for dang sure. Waaaay to much evade when using the swordxsword/hammer. No other class gets to hit you with its burst attack while evading whatever you might retaliate with.

Mes and Ele both 100% mitigate hits and deal damage at the same time.

I play Mes, and you are talking nonsense.

So what is the counterplay to Revs? They move very fast and seem to be able to block and evade pretty much all attacks in a 1v1. I think this class still needs a lot of tuning.

Seriously guys, no matter what is said here druids are obviously going to get nerf. Standing in one spot dealing out damage while taking virtually no damage and requiring no skill is obviously broken. People are talking about CC, like CC kills people. I was CC’ing the hell out the druid and he just healed through it.

I was just going to post something similar to the op. Just came out of a match where a druid stood in one spot in Foefire in our base tanking our lord his four guards and two of our players without dropping below 70% health. We threw everything we had at him and he outhealed everything easily and killed the lord and guards without moving from his spot.

It would be nice to put the new elite spec icons characters in PvP so you can see what you are up against. Also since the league hasn’t started yet, everyone has to play unranked which for some bizarre reason doesn’t respect the standard enemy models setting. So please turn this feature on.

Only two problems i had were when you use the jump things to get in the air the glider sometimes just doesn’t come out, but i found that if i calmly walk to the mushroom/glow thing and not press anything then again calmly press space bar, it words every time. Also the phases he goes through can jumble up if he resets/you die, so you will have to restart the instance pick braham and caithe as i thought that were the easiest.

+1 This is the best advice. I completed the story on first try after doing this. Don’t try and jump in the updraft or it cancels the updraft out and it doesn’t work. As mentioned, just walk over one of them and it will lift you up and then you can easily deploy the glider. Then glide from updraft to updraft until the AoE is finished.

Same here. I can get to the part when he does his massive aoe, but those updrafts are totally unreliable. Also it doesn’t make sense since you have to be in the air to deploy the glider in the first place, and jumping off the ground is silly. The worse thing is there is a shield that protects the rest of your party, but it’s not allowed to protect you for some reason.

Can’t unlock Black Feather Wing Glider skin :

I have the backpack skin for this already. I’ve followed the instructions of making sure the skin is on the backpack and speaking to a scout in Verdant brink, but it doesn’t unlock. I’ve done every possible combination of unequip and equipping it again and speaking to different scouts, but to no avail.

A lot of those new hero points are hard gated behind some fairly high level masteries. I’m guessing that that I would have replayed all Verdant brink maps several times before unlocking the elite spec. So by the time I get it I would have done most of the new content already. That in my option makes no sense.

I’ve noticed that some of the new mats in verdant brink can’t be deposited in your mats bank. Is this intentional?
