This skill would have been so much fun if it was:
Copy the skill that your target is currently using (have 5-10sec to use). If a weapon skill was copied, your current weapon temporarily changes to that of the skill, until used.
That would be hilarious and useful, I would definitely slot that. But as Mimic stands I still don’t see a reason to slot it over my other go-to utility skills.
Once again some of the Mes community manages to nerf us all and gets nothing decent in return. Despite people calling PU cheese and overpowered here, the one irreplaceable thing it did was give you a good fighting chance against thieves running acrobat, backstab/heartseeker if you’re built for power. Now when we get bursted down in 3 hits we can rest in the knowledge that our class is “more” balanced. We ask for out of combat swift and we get a 1 in 5 chance if running PU and cloak, as a response.
Yes.
Mesmers complain when they don’t get anything and skills get broken, and when finally we get an interesting buff, some mes complain it’s too strong. I don’t get it. Personally though I would trade this buff for out of combat swiftness in a heartbeat, it’s not like it can’t be cleansed.
@OP
I’m not sure thieves will get much sympathy on the profession balance forum. Certainly not from me, that’s for sure. I personally can’t wait to start mowing them down in WvW with the post-patch rapid fire. Their QQ tears will be like a fine wine on a mild summer’s evening.
I’ll have a drink with you. As a mes who doesn’t tend to run condition builds, thieves have no problem or QQ about how easily they can mow a mes down. We can’t really handle that high mobility combined, high burst, and stealth (i.e. no target to put clones up against). I will drink long and deep after this patch from the thieves tear well.
I trust you shall be putting that change to iLeap to good use against thieves, my friend.
-Clinks glass- cheers!
Everything at my disposal my friend. We will drink and eat well on that night

I have to agree about the FoV. It’s the worst in any modern MMO I’ve seen. I don’t see how increasing the FoV gives players an unfair advantage, against whom? If all players have the same there is no advantage. Fighting in PvP and not being able to see what you are doing because of the terrain/structures is crazy. Look at swtor PvP, you can zoom out pretty far and it doesn’t cause a problem. My best guess is that increasing the zoom out means that players may not be able to see all their lovely armour up close, and that might mean people spending less money in the gem store for comestics in general.
I usually get about two crashes if I play a session of WvW with a full map of people, and the lag is bad. Outside of WvW I’ve hardly encountered crashes at all. Try to do a GW2 repair in case a file got corrupted during the last update. There are instructions on how to do a repair in the support forum.
End game is when you spend more time on the forums than you do in game, or is that game over?
Sounds like someone got owned by a half decent Mes recently. Mes have a number of weaknesses which are easily exploited. To be a good mes takes a lot of concentration and very fast reflexes which are not always on tap depending on the day. I would say PU is the only real good build that gives glass builds some help, but it not OP or even particularly good against some builds/classes especially in sPvP/WvW.
I did this on my mes. Took a little while for me figure out sword wasn’t the best for this fight, but carried on anyway. All ranged weapons would have been better. There are a lot of mobs in there, let your allies take care of them. You should take out the dude with the icon as soon as he comes through the doorway, don’t wait until he comes in much further or he heals statue. Then run back to statue and do damage (from range) and watch for him to come again, and repeat. Two annoying things are the number of interrupts you receive (that is why you hit him as early as possible), the second is that irritating spark thing that does massive spike damage if it touches you.
Actually when playing the current living story I thought the whole waypoint/vine story was a prelude to some big change they were going to make to waypoints or travel. My first thought was the introduction of mounts, because it would make them a lot of money. Imagine mobile airship homes decked out for crafting etc. Then in the living story Taimi said something about making waypoints more efficient, which could bring in some clever changes. Or maybe it means nothing at all.
Hopefully, they will at least fix the bug with the vine at the Drytop waypoint that causes you to get stuck when you port there.
WvW at the highest settings is very taxing for a lot of PCs. I play PvE, SPvP and WvW. On a full zerging WvW map my cpu temps are +10-15 °C higher than anywhere else in the game, and on occasions the game would crash (only in WvW).
However, you have to account for the fact that the lag can also be server side. Ask other people in map chat if they are having the same issue, if not then it is your PC or internet speed. Some of the server side issues seem to have been sorted out, there were times (not too long ago) when whole fighting zergs couldn’t fire there skills off with the exception of the autoattack.
In sPvP I have only ever consistently beaten thieves with a condi staff, sword and pistol build (using null field for boon removal). Haven’t tried it with PU though.
Thanks for your help
Hi, thanks for info. Didn’t know you could do that.
Can only your team see it, or both teams?
I’ve seen this happen only once in a SoloQ match. Someone appeared to be drawing on the mini-map, and circling certain control points, the lines would disappear after about 5-10sec. It was an enjoyable and intense match-up and I didn’t have time to ask in chat how this was possible. Is there some hidden feature I’ve missed or was it some bizarre bug?
Turrets should disappear when the engie gets out of a limited range. On the Spirit watch map setting up turrets around the orb and leaving them unattended is just wrong. Trying to take the orb is suicide for certain classes and builds if you are by yourself.
After playing a considerable amount of sPvP recently as a mesmer I can confirm that thieves are a hard counter to mesmer. Pretty much only a condition build can effectively deal with a average to good thief. I roll with 3000 toughness (so not glass) usually with a reduced power build and a thief can completely circumnavigate a mesmer’s defences.
Thieves can constantly dip in and out of stealth and have extreme in-combat mobility with a fair amount of evades, and can jump to target. For most mesmer builds this combination pretty much means death in a 1v1 and 2v1. Going into stealth means there is no target to put phants up most of the time, low mes combat mobility means little chance to get much distance, and the burst damage is ridiculous. Getting hit for 4000 heart seeker with just over 3000 toughness is silly, and what clones you have up are ripped to shreds in no time (even with the + illusion health signet up). Going zerker in PvP with a decent thief is suicide. To make things even worst, thieves know this and specifically target mesmers. On some occasions I’ve had thieves seeking me out throughout a match trying to kill me.
Before anyone says L2P, a dev pretty much admitted how easy it is for a thief to put a mes down due with burst damage in the balance ready-up. I’m not angry with thieves, just why devs have allowed this situation to occur in the first, and allowed it to persist for so long. I’ve played mes since the start in PvE, WvW, and sPvP, but it is so broken in so many ways I wouldn’t recommend it to a new player, and have thought about re-rolling another class. Thing is a lot people have invested quite a bit of time in the mes class (takes a while to master compared to some classes) and maybe reluctant to start from scratch.
Increasing player loot by large amounts would lead to players exploiting it. In fact you just need multiple accounts to do it and no need of other players. A way to prevent this exploit: each player should have a 10-15 minute timer after you’re dead. You won’t give any loot if you are killed again within this 10 -15 minute timer.
I do not think the NPC loot (guards, lords) on normal WvWvW maps are a problem. Even if you exploit the 3 minute respawn timer and keep on killing the keep guards, archers and scouts over and over again, you won’t get much loot compared to EotM or pve farming.
I am for slightly increasing both the NPC and player rewards on normal WvWvW maps to make the rewards equal to EotM karma train. They should adjust the loot tables, less broken chips and fang and other junk items, more useful items like green or blue item drops of any level (you can at least salvage them for materials, and also get the needed t2-t4 materials for ascended). Sadly the WXP chest rewards cannot be increased as EotM is giving them at all rapid speed. For those players, who don’t play EotM, the WXP rank chest rewards are pitiful. The drop rate of ascended accessories seems to be roughly 1 per 300 chests or so and exotic drops happen once in a blue moon from the rank chests as well.
I was under the impression that this is how it works in WvW now. I pretty sure I read somewhere that the longer a player stayed alive the better the quality of loots they give when they die. Spikes would be from players that have just die, I guess. One time I had a chest drop from a player, never happened again, and there was just junk in it.
Some people don’t handle losing very well, and feel the need to vent their frustrations out on their team mates with expletives, or simply quit the game and go AFK even though you are only half way through the match. Truth is in a pug, one team wins because they are better, and the other team loses because they are not.
Hmm…let me see why. Playing a mesmer I’ve found that thieves specifically seek me out in WvW (in zergs and solo) and sPvP, because they find most mesmers are easy kills to unexpected high burst damage. Our main attack dps and defense comes from phantasms and illusions, but this is nullified when initially struck from stealth when you have nothing out, and also because them re-stealthing means there is no target to activate a phantasm on.
Also in sPvP I see some thieves only joining battles that are already underway, bursting down whoever has the lowest health from stealth and going onto the next light armour/lowest health player for easy kills.
But the most annoying thing about thieves is it is the only class I have to change builds for (as a mes) to effectively counter them, which shouldn’t be the case. If you are a mes leaning zerker an average to good thief will eat you for breakfast in little time.
there is 10 sec ICD, its on top right corner of the trait describtion
The point is the skill was originally not suppose to have a ICD at all, but we got one when it went live. I’m not sure if they’ve change the ICD (as I haven’t used the trait for a while now), but when I tested it out in PvE/WvW it was about 3-4 cd, definately not 10sec.
The original Triumphant Distortion description noted there would be no internal cd with this skill, however there is (3-4 secs). This kills the skill for me for WvW, and definitely not worth traiting in PvP. It has a little more utility in PvE, as there you usually have plenty of mobs, but still not good. The thing is the cd destroys an already mediocre GM trait, I mean really.. mesmers aren’t know for WvW killing sprees (not helped by having limited AoE capability). All the new GM traits are junk really. Power block is probably the most useful, but interrupting can be tricky and is unreliable. Not something you can plan around.
Has Anet ever made a gesture regarding a botch up before? I’m curious. I get the impression they don’t do the keep the community happy thing…but who knows.
Yes they have, when they botched the whole karka event in LA. Everyone that was at least there got mail with at least 2 unique exotics, a 20 slot bag and celestial account bound accessory.
Thanks. Maybe they will then. It would be a smart move under the circumstances.

Not sure about ele, but I’ve play WvW a lot on my Mes. Mes isn’t in a great place in WvW. A decent solo roaming build is very different from your zerg build, which makes it an awkward mix, as you can’t easily flip between them at will. Also the tagging ability of Mesmers in zergs (for loot) is pretty poor due to limited AoE options (no, staff really isn’t a great zerg weapon). In this respect ele is definitely better.
The two most irritating classes to play against are Thieves and Rangers. Both classes can excel in group fights that are already underway. Most thieves just pick off the players with the lowest health from stealth in zerker, while rangers stand at max range in hard to access (target) places locking you down and adding dps.
I wouldn’t say I hate these classes, but they are irritating because as a mesmer I’ve found that I would have to change to a certain builds to deal with them effectively. More toughness/conditions for thieves and reflects for Rangers, with some lock down for both. Of course you can’t change your build once sPvP has started.
Mesmer huh?
What do you think about sic’em?
Oh is that why I couldn’t go into stealth. Added to list of irritating things for rangers.

Why did they change the art on the already issued reward tickets from a lion trading post icon to that of a castle turret? Not sure if that means anything or not on how they are trying to handle this debacle.
I’ve just been in game. They seem to have a plan. They have changed the graphics of the WvW reward tickets from a lion to a castle turret, maybe to differentiate them from new tickets they may issue?
I think people are tick off because a lot of us played most of the 9 nine weeks in the tournament, and now to be told we have to wait an indefinite period for our rewards over an avoidable issue. It’s a bit much.
It should be a permanent finisher anyway, why limited-use.
Oh I thought everyone got them. That makes sense, as the last 2 weeks we came third, while before that we came first many consecutive times. Cheers for info
I noticed last week that I only received 1 bonus chest after 3 WvW level increases. Previously there was a bonus chest for each of the first 3 level ups after a match-up reset (for a total of 3 bonus chests) .
Just now, I levelled up 2 levels and received 3 chests, i.e. only one bonus chest received and not 2. Has something been changed?
Isn’t the Hero’s weapon just the non-glowing version of the Mistforged weapon?
I don’t really understand why all the rewards for a 9 week WvW tournament are so poor.
For 1st place you should be able to get at least one Ascended weapon, not an exotic, and have tickets left over to get something else, then they could have scaled down the rewards using that as a starting place.
The rewards are disproportionately bad considering that (1) It is a tournament, and (2) How long the tournament was.
In contrast The Tournament of Legends prizes were (for 2 days gameplay):
*1st place: Choice of Legendary (Eternity excluded), 2,000 gems, 2 Black Lion Weapon Tickets
*2nd place: Choice of Gift of Mastery or Fortune, Choice of Precursor, 800 gems, Black Lion Weapon Ticket
*3rd and 4th place: Choice of Gift of Mastery or Fortune, Black Lion Weapon Ticket
*5th through 8th place: Choice of Gift of Magic or Might, Black Lion Weapon Ticket
Maybe Anet thought it had to limit the rewards because of the number of people playing WvW is much more. But why limit it to such an extent.
I’m not suggesting giving the same rewards as the sPVP tournament, but an ascended weapon would have been more appropriate for WvW (top places), exotic for lower (rare for even lower) placement, a permanent finisher (rather than a limited one), seriously who needs more ascended mats, while they could have a least have increased the number of obsidian shards for a ticket purchase. This was my first tournament, but I don’t think I’ll bother with it again if it has the same format.
Masterwork or Masterwork is not RNG.
Patch notes:
Standing with the supply box traders near the docks in the Labyrinthine Cliffs is an asuran merchant who accepts spare piles of Blade Shards in exchange for Equipment Bags, each containing a piece of masterwork or better gear.
So yes it is RNG, for masterwork or better random gear. I checked my facts before posting.
I thought we would be able to trade our blades for actual items, not RNG bags. Well at least Anet made some cash from people buying new bag/bank slots to accommodate the blades.
Really wasn’t worth holding onto the shards for so long, taking up valuable bank space. I only got green item junk back from over 4000 blade shards traded for equipment bags. I’ll know better next time when they say hold on to your event items and just dump them.
So what’s the definition of evade?
From what I have read evade seems the same as invulnerability, it prevents you being from being hit from an attack.
From the last patch notes:
Distortion:
Fixed a bug that caused this buff to grant evasion instead of invulnerability.
Updated the description of this buff to indicate invulnerability.
I’m presuming there is a difference, maybe evade only prevents some attacks, but invulnerability prevents all?
Either way, as I mentioned above distortion descriptions (for Mesmers) have always mentioned evade, even after this patch, despite it saying in the bug fix that this has changed. Still confused about this.
I read the patch notes and was a little confused. All the descriptions I’ve ever read about distortion (in-game and online) was that it counted as an evasion, not invulnerability. However recently I have noticed that condition damage ignores distortion.
“Gear progression” could mean a whole bunch of different things. I think this is pretty ambiguous and doesn’t specifically point to anything, except “gear” and “progression”. Perhaps the dev was talking about new motorized mounts in-game.
Well on SFR I think burnout has set in after we realised we got 1st place in the bag. We are getting hammered this week because hardly anyone is logging in to play. There are no queues at all to get into WvW in the evening anymore. I guess people have had enough of it. Even our night-capping guys seem to be taking a break. Pity, it would have been nice to have had all straight wins through the tournament., but that doesn’t seem likely if people aren’t playing anymore.
Enough of this double teaming talk already, let’s looks at the facts for the truth. SFR have already won 1st place in the tournament, and so far have won all match-ups played. So the question is why would we need to double team? We go where the best fights are, and to keep a decent tick.
Even when we have been totally swamped by the numbers Deso and BB have been fielding we fought on. A thimble of tears used to be 10g on the TP, now they’ve flooded the market they are barely worth 1c each.
Both traits of blink should be combined into one to help mobility in lieu of a swiftness signet or some other kind of speed boost. Seriously having these two traits split doesn’t make sense for a kiting class.
I enjoy WvW, but 9 weeks is way too long considering what the rewards are. I think the tournament is a gap-filler until new content is finished. I’m on SFR and as it stands now we have already won first place, but the rewards don’t really excite me. If we didn’t get a 1-3 placement I wouldn’t feel particularly disappointed.
First place (for me) = 1 New weapon skin (exotic) and 1 ascended accessory.
Hardly anything to write home about. The rewards are poor even for first place. They didn’t even make the grand weapon prize ascended quality. All of the prizes are pretty much a joke, considering it’s a tourney. So my advice is don’t get burnt over this, it just isn’t worth it.
It would be nice if someone from Anet will say when this merchant will be in game. It seems manipulative to say hold onto your shards and then leave it for months without saying anything more. Meanwhile these things are taking up a ton of bank space. We don’t even know what we’ll be able to trade them for, could be pure junk.
Just did the 1.30pm teq. It was a total failure. I think this is the reality of it for most people.
Teq and Triple trouble have failed in all the pugs I’ve done. Teq usually fails at the megalasers or before that, the last two I did a tag didn’t even show up for it. I asked in chat if anyone had completed Teq, most hadn’t or did about 2 months ago. Compared to Karka Queen these events are hard if the pug is composed of people that have never done them, or only once, because it involves co-ordination, which pugs in general aren’t very good at.
