The devs are completely blinkered around spvp- where they complained about condition builds being ‘OP’ and hence the changes to guardians making them even harder to kill.
They don’t care about conditions as most of them play zerk instastab thiefs and the only thing they want to do is nerf any condition build that can affect spvp.
So the chances of anything being done in pve to address this huge glaring problem is as close to zero as it’s possible to get without actually saying ‘never’ (as you never know, one of the devs might actually care one day).
The fact that the event clearly excludes most classes and builds is also causing it to fail- most pve’rs won’t have the resources or the patience to both buy all the gear, food etc and change their traits etc and then sit around all day at the weekend for a chance at a boss fight that will more than likely fail.
It’s also very much against small guilds and the majority on most servers that either cannot or will not use voice comms (personally I don’t speak anything except english anywhere near good enough to understand 50% of the population on my server).
The last couple of overflows I have been in have just gone through the motions knowing it was lost before we started, just for the daily.
This is a great exclusion event: it excludes casuals, non-ts users, non-english speakers on mixed EU servers, ANY condition builds, anyone who isn’t willing to fork out for new armor, foods, swop their traits, etc.
Luckily Anet loves spvp so much that it now thinks wvw should have spvp arenas in the border maps and now is bringing ‘oh we forgot pve players have to actually buy gears for pve content’ to the masses.
‘I told you so’. Sorry, couldn’t resist!
I worked out in an idle moment that if I wanted to spend the equivalent amount of time in game doing something useful rather than 4-10 hours waiting on a spawn, I will be able to craft my next ascended weapon well before there would be any chance of getting one as a drop from this ‘non-event’ that will be Teq.
Already people are dropping out of the biggest organised squads as they realise that spending 6hours+ organising something that might fail isn’t much fun once you have beaten it.
Sure you will have a couple of groups that will stick to it and keep doing it, and being loud on the forums about it being ‘easy’ but for the more casual players (who can’t afford or won’t buy a new set of armor, etc for one fight), the non-english speakers and EU servers generally this content is an exercise in frustration. And as any game designer will tell you, a little frustration is a good thing, but too much of a good thing will drive players away faster than anything else.
Luckily for Anet and it’s Gem store, ESO isn’t out until next year (and now they seem to be aiming for a subscription fee, less likely to get so many switching over).
Sorry Op, the negative posts aren’t exhausted- they just get moved to other sections on the slightest pretext.
Most people do know that 99.99% of the time nothing posted on a forum makes a blind bit of difference to the game.
Just to make it a bit more interesting apparently SFR have decided that there will be no comm badges even in EB for the next two days. Use TS or get out (I think that was the message).
So the challenge now is to see what difference it makes to the points, types of players in wvw, and how many new guilds and players come into wvw and take up slots and ignore the english speaking server ts while using their own.
Oh and the other challenge is to see if viz and RS can take advantage and scare off the pugs by running even bigger zergs (in Viz’s case, not sure that would be possible).
Thanks for all the fights so far, really enjoyed the taking turns to attack garrison and supply us with a lot of loot bags, hope yours were heavy too!
Yep, didn’t even know about the ctnl right click thing, much obliged!
It’s on the daily list, so a lot of people are still doing it. It’s not worth the wait time, given I play a game to enjoy myself not stand around for hours. As I log on today the timer says 2 hours 10 minutes to spawn and that’s for the main map which i won’t get into anyway. Do I want to waste my Sunday afternoon waiting on a spawn? No.
Give it a couple weeks and the vast majority won’t bother with it – there will be a few die hards doing organised runs and for the rest it will become Karka Queen 2- fun to conquer once but you really can’t be bothered organising forever to get one tiny bit of content done again.
Is it just me, or did they break FT auto attack- I have to mash the 1 button every time I want to keep hitting something now? RSI…
Maybe I’ve ticked the wrong box or something in settings, if anyone knows how to fix it let me know (or PM).
Thanks.
Agree with the OP, bring back oldish teq for the masses (tweak it a bit – the waves are a bit funny, but underwater red circles should be gone), and make a new instance for new Teq with the entrance in Kessex Hills or LA, and everyone would be happy.
Organised guilds could choose their settings and Teq could be scaled for 15, 20, 30 , 40 or 80 people, with rewards scaled to match- 80 will be mega hard but with a reasonable chance at a random ascended weapon (say 1%).
I just hope Anet have a good look at all the feedback and visit a few actual servers to get a proper feel of the opinions on Teq before they tweak the other dragons.
The good about he video: I really like the idea of numbered overflows and people choosing which overflow the will join.
I also like the idea of faster check for AFK players.
While I don’t personally like the idea of a strict timer, I think that practicality of it far outweights the tension building or RP aspect of it, and I agree that increasing the time between spawns would be beneficial (with maaybe a bit more rewards). The bad about the video: I think that WP is contradicting himself with regards to zerker builds. If someone is willing to change their traits, utilities and weapons, doesn’t that completely alleviate the issue of “on crit” traits, builds etc. ? Besides, exotic gear is not nearly that hard to come by as he is making it out to be, especially 1yr after the game release. In fact Soldiers gear is one of the most easy to come by since they can be purchased for karma from temples, and karma is even more easy to come by then glory..
As far as the condi builds go, the issue is the same as with zerker, but there is also the engine limitation problem.
I also think that, like in the raids, majority of the population will eventually learn to deal with the Tequatl. They will definitely take more time to learn how to fight it then organized guild raids but that’s ok with me. I prefer the feeling of working together with your entire server, and with future updates it might even go a long way in building server pride and maybe even server fidelity. Besides, as it has been reiterated on multiple occasions on the forums, dungeons were hard content when they came out, but today even the lowliest pugs have a chance to finish them successfully.Nothing ugly about the video, I found it quite interesting.
I disagree with you on the point about ‘most people will eventually learn to beat Teq’. Most people already know the theory, it’s getting the numbers and the organisation that is the hard bit.
Most people have better things to do with their limited leisure time than stand around and jump overflows for hours on end on the off chance they manage to get into the server they want in order to have a snowball’s chance in hell of beating it.
This is the fatal flaw. One troll or group of trolls can ruin literally your entire day’s work.
How long will people continue to want to stand and plan after they have beaten it a couple of times? Probably the same people that like doing the same fractals every day …ie not a lot.
Sure, it feels great to organise and beat it the first time- but the 20th? How many are going to wait hours and hours for that one?
As a fine example of my experience: loaded into an overflow, so no idea when Teq might spawn- could be now, could be over 2 hours standing doing nothing. Ask in map chat whether people think there is a chance of winning- almost everyone said ‘no’, apart from the usual one deluded newbie who then spouted forth about noobs, etc. The only reason most were there was for the achievement (this was told to me in several languages, which is another problem in EU servers).
What the highly organised servers and Anet need to realise is that the casual majority in the game won’t buy a whole new set of armor, buy foods, log onto ts, etc just to fight one boss- they will just turn up a few times, then decide not to bother and go and do something else.
If it wasn’t for the daily or the achievements the place would not be as busy as it is.
How many people are going to want to sit around for 4-10 hours every day getting everyone organised so they can have a 15 minute fight that can be completely derailed by one person on a turret d/cing/trolling/etc.?
How about next week, still planning on spending all your time ingame sitting around doing nothing? Next month?
When a game becomes more boring than a job there is something seriously wrong with the content.
Are the rewards worth it? In those 6 hours you spent failing the boss I collected 30-40 ori ore, 35 ancients woods, did my daily, killed some temples, other bosses, completed another section of map and did some wvw and enjoyed my leisure time.
Standing around doing nothing for hours on end isn’t my idea of fun.
For people who don’t have that much game time or can’t log on and leave gw2 running whilst they go and do something interesting, this is a big part of why this event fails.
Standing around doing nothing for the off chance you might actually get in an overflow or main map that actually gets it done isn’t my idea of fun.
Maybe the devs need to survey the general pve population from non-wvw servers (most of whom never post in forums) and find out how underwhelmed they are.
Your solution wouldn’t solve the language barrier that exists on a lot of the EU servers…
So you want a version of home world apartheid?
Guesting exists for many reasons, if one event is breaking it then the event needs fixing, not the guesting system.
Again, the solutions aren’t particularly practical from less ‘hard-core’ players.
Change your entire gear set, foods etc for one boss encounter?
Wait for hours doing nothing so you are co ordinated and have a chance (if the turret guy doesn’t happen to have something to do in RL when the boss actually spawns/isn’t a troll/is clueless/etc)?
Learn to dodge out of invisible circles.
Learn to jump over waves before they reach you, if you can even see them.
Don’t bring any condition using class, you’re a waste of space. Yet more design bias for heavy armor wearing classes with group might stacking/cleansing abilities.
Don’t bother coming if you can’t totally change your build, gears, armor, weapon set (oh, and have ascended weapons and jewellry), remove all your crit stuff, etc etc.
Start camping out at 4am in the morning server time so that there is a chance in hell of getting on the main server 12 hours later, so anyone with a job or that has a RL, forget it, this content is not for you (or join TKS and server hop guest kill it, which kinda defeats the whole object of having the boss in the first place).
I’m not against hard content, we need a lot more of it (especially that can be instanced for solo and small parties). At the moment the game totally lacks any solo mode stuff (like dungeons, fractals, etc where you need to collect drops for armor, ascended stuff, etc), and this leap into needing at least 80 people to complete something just alienates casuals even more.
My favourite boss is now golem mark 2, as you can clearly SEE the fields of death and can dodge out of them.
Having red circles appear and hit you before they even rendered, or have them so you can’t even see them as they are underwater, is just bad design. I like the waves, now that the damage from them has been reduced by half (first time they basically took 90% of your hp off, and knocked you until a red circle to finish you off), but a 4 foot wave shouldn’t take more than 10% off your HP – you could have more frequent waves if you like the mechanic.
Having champs attack the turrets also isn’t particularly good mechanics, as squishies can’t deal with them. Sure, I can switch to my tanky guardian and play with a champ all day, avoiding red circles, but for the casting and ranged medium armor and light armor people these become a headache real fast, again marginalising a lot of classes and builds.
I guess the ‘we want to design a game that YOU play the way YOU want’ mantra is now well and truly dead.
This boss fight could be epic with some changes and some decent scaling for smaller groups to be able to complete it – after the initial couple of weeks there just aren’t going to be that many servers that will still be organising groups and being bored for hours just so they can hopefully get their 10th kill in.
The only thing that attracts a lot of people to it at the moment is the achievement, once that goes will it be worth the waste of RL time?
With the upcoming buff to purging flames on guardians necros and conditions in general are going to be even less effective in large group fights than they are now- sure you can survive for a long time in a zerg fight, but if you watch the melee train ball you will see your conditions disappear almost as soon as they go on.
I find the most effective skills are my wells and DS4, which does a nice job of healing people and killing enemies who by then are at low HP.
Roaming, I don’t spec for roaming but very little can kill me 1v1 due to my high toughness. It takes a decent player to down me.
We killed it in 10 min
I know you need SS so here you go…
On an overflow with few people and pug?
I can say kinda cuz we “overflowed” by other servers by guesting also a lots of new ppl but we explained tactic and managed after 1 fail. And yes there was no guild teams so you can say that was random pug.
If you need to move an entire 100 people to a chosen overflow, or have to stand around for 2-4 hours before you are sufficiently organised to beat one boss, then the event is a massive fail. After a few weeks are you still going to want to spend your limited leisure time standing around in a game doing nothing?
Of course there will always be some ‘hardcore’ players that will do this sort of thing, but they are probably the same ones that do the same fractals day in day out, doing them so often they develop muscle memory movements.
Hi guys and Anet Whiteside Ridge (EU) here.
I think the best that we got Teq down to was 80%. It wiped our server, killed me a dozen of times, made people rage quit.
It also made our sevrer organize, use tactics, actually listen to commanders, and fight with such commitment as never before.
So a really good job there! I won’t give up until he is defeated, and I know many others on my server who are thinking the same.
And in here lies the nub of the problem: there will be a core of people who will keep trying until they succeed. What then? Will you keep spending hours every single day getting ready for one boss so that you can possibly succeed again? Much more likely is people will drift away as they realise for most servers the rewards just aren’t worth the effort.
Or they will join the server hopping guesting low population TKS guild or similar, which will also most likely become a ghost after a few weeks.
If they revamp the other dragons like this, then a lot of casual players will either quit or just be excluded from the best source of dragonite in the game.
If you need dragonite (like me, still need around 20,000 more to equip my level 80 full exotics alts )then best to ensure you farm the current dragons before they screw those over too.
Make the pistol on an asura- at least then you can’t really see it, it’s so small:-)
Appears to be the only way to get into a server rather than the autofail overflows.
Which means you need to log on to GW2, sit your toon in SparkFly and do NOTHING other than wait for the main map to become available (which might not happen in the 2/4/6/8 hours that you have available to play, especially for the first couple of weeks). Apart from throwing a skill every while to avoid being kicked for being afk.
Rinse and repeat.
Congratulations Anet, welcome to boredom wars, where the people with the longest boredom threshold with nothing better to do in RL can access the content.
Is this what you intended?
Sure there is still a buzz around it, but from comments I see from the silent majority who don’t bother posting on forums, a lot of people have already given up on it, saying things like ‘wait three hours to fail something, no thanks’ or ‘I parked my toon there and d/cd just as it spawned’ or ‘I parked my toon there and WENT OFF TO PLAY A MORE INTERESTING GAME until the dragon spawned, then wished i hadn’t bothered wasting my toon’s time’.
You have also managed to create a division in the community between those servers that can get organised (usually single language) and those with a variety of people in the player base or the more casual players.
The ‘solutions’ ignore that fact that for many players (especially the adults with families, etc) hanging around doing nothing in a map for two hours waiting for the spawn in the hope that enough organised people are going to be there so that they can beat the dragon isn’t their idea of utilising their limited leisure time in a fun way. They also ignore the fact that many servers don’t have a server TS/vent/voip and many players cannot use it for various reasons. They also ignore the fact most people can’t just switch armor and weapon sets to pvt just so they can try this boss.
Sure, if you can spend hours and hours organising and jumping to a low population server with 100+ organised people you can get it done- but for how long are these people going to be wanting to spend all this time beating a boss that doesn’t even drop particularly good loot.
Looks like their might be one or two teams that will continue to do it after the first couple of weeks but they will lose players quite rapidly once the novelty wears off, and for the lower population servers and the less organised, without a tweak or two the spawn will just become ignored, making it a big fail from Anet.
Here’s an idea- transfer to one of the low population servers and ‘show them how it’s done’. With 40-60 randoms and no ts (and that’s prime time).
With the current state of it many servers will not complete it, hence the people guesting in an effort to find somewhere where they have a chance of at least getting it down a bit.
And just as an aside, have you been on Blackgate since day one (you probably have, but quite a few transfered to it months after launch, so just wondering which category you fall into).
I wonder how many days (or weeks) the ‘elite pve servers’ will bother spending hours of every day trying to beat him before they lose interest or move on to something else, at which time the co ordination won’t be there and it will become
‘How many days/weeks/months is it since a server beat Teq?’
There is a very simple solution- remove the stupid timer (that goes for all bosses, not just this one). The timer just makes it impossible for smaller servers or those that don’t have a well developed ts mentality. Then scale the rewards so you get something for each 25% down, and only have a chance at an ascended and the full 100 dragonite if you were there for each 25%.
This will satisfy everyone- the ‘elites’ can have a competition to see who can set the best time (screenshots required, Anet can verify a new ‘fastest’), whilst the lower population servers can still finish it (it might take an hour or so, but will be an achievement).
And lose 50% of it’s HP or fix your scaling – 20 or 30 people trying it on a lower population server or people who play at 2-3am have precisely no chance of getting it done once the initial rush dies down.
They should rename this.
Turning up at an overflow is a guaranteed fail. People will soon realise this and as soon as they spawn in, will go ‘thanks anet, screwed again’ and start to port out.
The only reason most are even turning up is to do the daily- if it wasn’t for that it would be pretty quiet already.
The only other reason anyone might want to carry on fighting as a disorganised 40+ people is that they are too thick to realise no amount of shouting and trying to organise people (many of which don’t read/understand English) is going to work, and you are basically wasting 15 minutes of your leisure time.
Sooner or later without tweaks or proper scaling this will become about as popular as Karka Queen.
I like the cannons, I even don’t mind the wave (if you can see it given lag etc) but the red circles under the water are just plain stupid.
Also trying to get warriors and guardians to protect the cannons instead of having them press 1 against Teq’s leg is an uphill struggle for a lot of servers…
USA servers will manage it as they generally all speak the same language, EU servers are generally going to have much bigger problems with it, although the single language servers will have a good go at it soon.
I think this is a major problem in trying to co ordinate people on this fight- as well kitten many not being on ts in any case.
Gandara is a fine case in point- our server ts collapsed months ago due to lack of use, and the language barrier as we have a lot of nationalities on our server.
This event might be fun for one language servers but for multi-lingual ones trying to get the sort of co ordination that is required to kill it isn’t going to happen.
So I guess whichever servers do manage it can expect to be snowed under with guests perrty fast- then people will always hit overflows, then they will just not bother with it any more.
Let’s see: change out an entire set of gear for one event at enormous cost (not everyone has stacks of gold) when no server has even managed it yet, or alternative two:
Don’t bother with wasting all that time and effort on the event and go and enjoy your limited leisure time – it’s supposed to be fun and entertaining not annoying and frustrating.
or even worth bothering to respec and but a whole new set of gear for one fight^
Another bad bit of design, the waypoint becomes contested during the fight meaning if you can’t res that person is out of the fight for a minute or two or even 3- and given it’s only a 15 minute timer, that’s quite a chunk of the fight timer gone.
At least they nerfed wave damage and red circle damage in that mini patch, but not being able to see the red circles under the water is just very bad design.
‘chance at’ ascended weapons, which translated from anet speak usually means ‘one in a million or less’.
Of course the first server that manages it will be artificially boosted in the reward department so that others continue to try it, as by then event fatigue will ahve set in and less and less people will be turning up to try on most servers.
In case you didn’t get the memo yet, they don’t care about rangers or their pets- otherwise there wouldn’t be a cooldown before you can summon one when both die within seconds.
First day, and already the general attitude is changing on the server from ‘yay new content let’s try it’ to ’let’s go do something worthwhile with our limited fun relaxing game time.’
Overflows totally ruin trying to co ordinate an attack, and the d/cs aren’t helping either.
Maybe if the devs had tested this content with the typical pugs gear and weapons and thown together 40-60 randoms in an overflow they might have foreseen some of the obvious problems- like lag meaning you try to jump the wave, but it is deemed to be too early or late and your downed, or the red circles being so faint under wate rthey are impossible to see.
How about he drains the water away before the wave hits like a real wave, then it washes over, and red stains only appear when the water is out?
I think this is going to become karka queen territory pretty fast.
Most people can’t see the waves coming due to all the other effects firing off, the poison clouds, and the terrible frame rate, and by the time you see the wave it’s too late to react.
The exploding fish heads do crazy damage and most of the time you can’t even see them before they blow you up (see clouds above).
On top of that, instant overflows make trying to organise guild groups next to impossible as the 15 minute limit means by the time you are even remotely organised 2-3 minutes have already past.
Anet seem to think people are going to stand there for hours waiting for the spawn- not going to happen, they will just go elsewhere.
I tried in my tankiest engineer build and was insta killed- then I tried normal wvw build, same result, may as well not bother racking up the repair bills.
End result, 50-60 of us in an overflow maybe got it down around 5%.
Conclusion: if you get in an overflow, it’s very unlikely you will achieve anything so just port back out and go do something else, as it’s unlikely that your overflow will have enough players or be organised enough even in prime time to be able to get rewards.
Secondary conclusion: low population servers, this just became a ’don’t bother’ boss, same if you play at other times of the day when you won’t see enough people to be able to get anything and after a couple weeks people won’t bother trying.
Do I like the concept of harder boss fights? hell yes. Do I like one shot mechanics from things you can’t see and making things so hard it’s almost guaranteed auto fail on almost every map? hell no.
Go back to the drawing board Anet and give it some tweaks or you just created another no go zone like karka queen. No one likes one shot mechanics except thiefs (oh wait, you like those..)
Just met a thief- within one second had hit me for 6k, and applied TWENTY stacks of confusion with 15 second duration and covered it with another condition or two.
Of course my grenades were already in flight so nothing I can do about it, boom boom HP almost gone, can’t run away as immobilised/crippled and he can whack away to his hearts content.
Just another fine example of devs favouring thiefs.
And if anyone can come up with a counter to this on any of a range of classes except those with huge armor, regen and aegis then let’s hear it. And bear in mind this is out of the blue in mid fight when he pops up after he has hit you and many of your skills are already on cooldown.
So, they managed to give two MORE champ boxes away for almost every world boss that will be melted in a few minutes tops, but couldn’t spare the time to revamp wvw rewards for gaining ranks, etc? (That takes a LOT longer, involves a lot more skill and also might take hours on some servers).
Sad.
And since we showed no interest in spvp, they brought it to us with capture points- get out your silly bunker builds boys it’s time to stand on a spot for a few hours.
Well for most of us reaching the champion or dragon before it dies from 100 people is the biggest problem, but off peak some of these bosses can become a real fight, and adding an automatic fail timer after 15 minutes might cause some problems.
Anet seem to be working on ‘go with zerg and be a melee train or else’, with many changes coming out purely for spvp that are stupid when applied to wvw (but we all know which one they support), for instance pumping up condition removal on guardians when conditions were about the only way to remove all those boons and heals and take down the melee train- not they can just wipe them off and carry on chugging.
Unless the bosses scale a LOT when only a few are fighting then it’s another nail in the coffin for lower population servers- but maybe that’s the plan…
Chances of dropping are slightly worse than the chance of winning the lottery, so not going to waste time looking at it.
Keep an eye on the scores, then transfer to a server that has 500+ points running (might be t7 or t8, so make sure you check)and run around the maps capping everything inside keeps and towers as fast as possible. grab garrisons, and enemy keeps in BL and SM first, then everything inside buildings.
Camps and skill points you can pretty much get anytime if you sneak around the edges of the map.
If you don’t want to transfer then It’s a question of keeping eyes on the maps and then diving in when your server holds the points you need.
Unlike pve where you can get two rares for auto attacking for a few minutes, it might take you a few weeks to complete your wvw maps so make a start on them as soon as possible, then it won’t be the last part of the map you need to complete.
Queues this week for the times I have wanted to get into wvw have been long- I’m beginning to forget what EB on SFR even looks like!
Had to switch off the engi tonight to combat the melee trains as apparently Gandara lacks people who can stack stability, might etc on our zerglets and we also seem to lack necros that know when to use staff 5, lf 3, etc to disrupt attempted rebuffs. Two guild melee trains from BB fighting against the pug ‘army’ of Gandara.
Did I mention retal really needs a nerf for wvw?
It is just me that loves to watch that attempted rebuff move off in all directions when my fear hits and the rest realise they are now losing boons to my well?
Really enjoying my fight against that thief south of hills after he followed me away from the fight into the water, then we both popped in and out of water on that little patch of land. As an upscaled level 55 that fight was a lot closer than a lot of others, you showed some great skills as well as a determination to finish the fight.
Fighting for Gandara is a mixture of pleasure and frustration- there is no server TS, so everything is done via chat. But we pull off some amazing fights and win some that I really don’t think we are going to. At other times what some people do cheeses me off so much I could scream (at which times, be thankful we don’t have ts and I can’t use it anyway).
Much more interesting here than in SFR this week.
Not a good idea to try and transfer to SFR for the wvw- unless you are a skilled player, or willing to join one of the larger guilds and be on ts.
SFR is the most noob- unfriendly wvw server there is. EB has constant wait times measured in hours, especially at the weekends. The borderlands have a ‘no tag’ policy and if you are not on ts then you won’t find the ‘zerglet’. You will also be told to get off the borderland if one of the guilds wants spot for it’s guild raid- you will know when they are building players as they will stand around at spawn point for ages while the map turns the enemy colour (more for them to retake and feel good about their raid, never mind the points, most don’t play for them anyway).
Very few people will even reply to any questions on team chat, apart from saying ‘come on ts’.
Best to join Vizi where you are guaranteed training in how to use an AC and how to run back under cover of AC, how to run fast and how to only ever come out to fight when there at least 3 times more of you than the enemy- or else travel in packs of 3/4 thiefs and ele and a mesmer picking off solo players.
You should be required to have fractal 48 and to have cleared each dungeon path in a certain amount of time in order to get a legendary.
Thankfully they didn’t decide to make doing boring repetitive stuff a requirement of getting a legendary..oh wait…
Many people loath fractals as being the most boring place in teh game, as well as being reliant on pugs some of the time, waiting to form groups, or being half way through a run and someone d/cs, leaves, etc etc meaning you don’t advance in level that time around and ir was a complete waste of time.
Dungeons- again, not everyone wants to spend lots of time forming groups and watching them fail or the alternate which is getting in some ‘leet’ group that doesn’t explain anything after you say you’re rusty or new but just kicks, or moans at you when they just had to give a brief explanation before diving in to the next bit.
Having a legendary says nothing about a players skill level or how they came about getting it- it’s just another way to improve your stats (and a very time consuming or costly one at that).
Just for clarity, when you say pvp, make sure you put the ‘s’ in front of it, as most of what you are saying only applies to spvp or solo fights in wvw.
And are they REALLY going to nerf healing spring in all forms of the game just because in spvp it might be useful?
I really wish they would separate all changes between spvp and the real game as almost every change made solely for ‘balance’ in spvp is completely stupid when applied to wvw or pve.
And to the thiefs moaning about a 40 second cool down skill that will miss 90% of the time in any form of the game other than spvp where you are standing guarding some objective and have decided not to move- almost all rangers WILL NOT waste a utility space on a skill that is so useless.
It will be about as useful as the LB skill 3 giving 3 seconds of stealth- which only works if your shot lands on the target and isn’t dodged, blocked by your own pet, blocked by aegis, misses as your blinded, etc etc making it miss most of the time when you actually want to use it.
Pet skills will continue to be useless most of the time in wvw – 1.5 seconds to cast a skill while the pet stands still, try it and see how often that pet stun skill hits…and ranged pet attacks are just lol.
Of course they work fine on bunkers standing on an objective in spvp and we all know that’s the only thing they look at, so dreaming that they will change things so they work in wvw is a waste of time.

Gandara have come up with a simple solution to melee trains- the chaos pug mob.
Basically, all the pugs just spread out and chip away at those that don’t follow the leader perfectly, whilst being so spread out that the melee train only takes out a few players at a time. As soon as the train stops to rebuff, fear, interupts and other goodies all fall on the train causing it to miss buffs and chug chug some more.
It’s actually quite hilarious to watch a couple of semi organised guild melee trains become so frustrated at being unable to wipe the pugs that eventually they run away, leaving their dead behind.
And the best thing about the melee trains- lack of ranged firepower when attacking towers or keeps, whereas the Gandara pug chaos squad is almost entirely ranged and wipes anything that comes near the walls- and of course AC are deployed all over the place randomly.
:-)
So let’s see:
Ranger
Sick ‘Em will now apply ‘Revealed” to enemies they target. We want to introduce some counter play to Stealth (players have asked for that for a while), so we thought a pet “catching your scent” might be a cool way to insinuate some anti-stealth into the game.
To help Rangers support allies, we increased the ability ranger pets have to support allies. For instance, the Bear condition removal isn’t strong enough, so we’ll be improving that. Moas and Fern Hound will also be improved.
There will also be # changes to some of the Ranger weapons.
So basically we get to equip an otherwise pretty useless skill as one of our three on the off chance we happen to run into a thief, who then, if we are really lucky and the pet manages to hit the thief whilst he is almost perma stealthed, gets a revealed buff and promptly resets the fight until the reveal is off then returns and rips everyone to shreds anyway.
The problem with the pet abilities is CAST TIME, pure and simple. Most of them take so long to cast, and the pet stops moving whilst it tries to do them, that they are utterly useless against anything that moves.
The other problem is the chances of your pet actually making it to an enemy and delivering any sort of damage before it dies to the melee train are almost 0.
Give rangers some way of still having decent damage when the pets are dead, or better yet just remove the stupid cooldown when both pets are dead in wvw. they are supposed to be a ‘constant companion’ not ‘dead for the next minute while the fight will be over’.
As for the guardian change, 3 conditions removed as an aoe and a continuing condition removal…sounds like another boost to the melee train meta and the end of necro condition builds in wvw.
Not exactly sure how are you are supposed to damage that melee train now- perma retal, perma regen, and now with a tiny bit of timing huge condition removal spam. Attack the melee train with conditions- removed instantly, causes burning. Fire arrows at them- boom, retal wipes you. Fire engineer grenades or FT- instantly dead. Elementalist – every skill pretty much an aoe (except annoying d/d soloists), can’t use skills or autodeath. Mesmer ranged- multiple targets, multiple retal hits, and feedback = death sentence (and null field ticks so slowly it’s pretty much useless now).
Glad to see thiefs getting another buff with ven aura now being in a large area….(/sarcasm). I wonder what class the devs play now- looks like warrior, thief and guardian.

Liquid karma does the exact opposite to what they advertised it would do- and it’s so rare as to be insignificant anyway.
Liquid karma helps mains level their rank, so it does nothing to address the widening gap between one toon players and multiple toon players.
1000 damage at 1500 condition damage- wouldn’t that be just great for anyone using an aoe on the people in your zerg who received your buff….rangers would die before they even finish casting their rooted to the spot barrage (as opposed to being almost dead after it finishes).
Retaliation gets very tiresome on any ranged class- which is why you see less and less of them as more and more people just give up and join the melee train.
Recent true situation: comm asks for a mesmer, we have one reply from whole map, asks for eles, we have two. Runs up to gate, says ‘kill that cannon’ at which point 90% of the players stand around doing nothing as they are either in combat and unable to equip their bow/rifle as warriors or scepter(?) as guardians.
Oh and those that say I play a noob guardian build- you are right, I play a strange build as I’m not running in a co ordinated guild group when I’m on it, and half the time the only stability on our group is from me! It is fun running through the opposition melee train though spamming away merrily (ok, ok, yes, I do switch to hammer for giggles) with not a thought to anything and with retal having 0 effect on me.
If only the devs played a ranged class in wvw against a melee train, then we’d see a cap per second faster than you can blink- but as they all seem to main thiefs, etc the chances of getting one any time soon seem remote.
Never seen a stealth trap be effective- it’s a complete waste of supply and badges.
Oh look a thief is coming, deploy the stealth trap! Wait, it takes 4 seconds, he killed me while it was deploying..or I only have 10 supply at it takes 15, someone run over here and use up supply on this thing the thief can leap over…
Besides which, thiefs are not the problem around siege, never been an issue for us.
The stealth mechanic gets really stupid when some pistol waving disappearing act can pick off players one by one always stealthing to finish and resetting all the time and healing by crazy amounts every time they go into stealth as well as dropping conditions.
I don’t have a problem with mesmers and clones it’s really easy to spot the real one.
They need to seriously overhaul the entire loot system in wvw. At the moment it’s a joke how pitiful the drop rate of anything other than blue, green and spikes are.
I finally got an exotic drop in wvw today, but can’t remember the last time this happened or even when was the last time a got a rare. Compare that to a leisurely stroll around the pve world that picked up at least 12 rares, many greens, materials and lots of silvers for auto attacking various events and bosses who basically don’t fight back.
