I’m now convinced that they only ever ask spvp’rs about changes to wvw, especially with the latest additions to rank masteries.
AOE heal on a treb shot- ok, not too bad.
AOE remove supplies, and remove supplies from whatever you are trebbing- got to be smoking something!
So the dominant server (or those that can build the most trebs in SM) can now blast away supplies from the already outmanned defenders, making supply even more of an issue for the weaker server.
Seems like they want us to all run around in a big circle playing ‘cap the t1 buildings’, except if a server dominates in which case it’s ‘oh well, no supplies even in camps, we’d like to build some siege to take that tower but the three enemy trebs just removed all our supplies’.
On the wvw changes, making wvw easier to get just makes the gap between casuals and hard core bigger, liquid wvw exp just means they can increase their single toon faster and does nothing to address any of the real concerns and issues raised by the wvw community.
How about ANet sits down with the wvw community and gets a list of what we’d like to see and then work towards that, rather than alienating the wvw player base with increasing crazy ideas that no one really wants.
I actually have fun playing my zerk type LB/SB build on a t1 server – solo thiefs tend to melt against it so if I see them coming they are toast, but it’s really for zerg play and attacking people on walls or from them.
It’s really all about position- running through the middle of the enemy zerg is NOT a good idea, but having lots of stacks of might and aoe flame bursts on a high crit/power build makes for a lot of fun on a stack full of people when your arrows hit multiple people.
I find having a pet in a zerg a complete waste of time, but it can be useful if you are caught out or just strolling around camp capping.
Yes, it’s squishy if caught out of position but it’s a real bag collector.
I have two other rangers which are the tanky evade types and it’s just not as much fun.
I guess cazza hasn’t got the message yet- SFR don’t play for points, and the major guilds don’t care about the score.
In fact, during primetime it is normal for there to be no tag to follow on the borderlands as they are for guild raids (some would say this is elitist, and loses us both points and pugs, others will say it is so they can GvG in peace), hence why if you look at the scores during primetime on the borderlands against Viz you can see the result of this policy.
I’m taking a break from SFR this week and levelling up some alts on Gandara, which is very different….SFR goes in and runs through the opposition, Gandara tend to start and then everyone spreads out, which is actually strangely effective in negating the guardian spam bots.
The ranks currently serve as a strong tell what to expect from the player. The difference between an Invader ele and a Bronze Invader ele is staggering for example. An account title simply does not have the same expressiveness, as you can be fairly experienced in WvW strategics and still be a complete noob with the class of your character. It’s an important nuance, one that also makes it a valuable PvP mechanic and not just one for RP purposes.
They could somehow combine them. Meaning, your “bronze”, “gold” (I’d still prefer if they used a less lazy denomination than precious metals), etc. ranking is inherited account wide, but your “Assaulter”, “Knight” is earned by the character. This way you’d never start completely over on the same level as a WvW newbie, but you’d still have a title progression mechanic for your character.
The rank titles mean nothing if they can be earned by manning an AC for a 12 hour shift or pvd when no one else is on- as is shown in many an open field battle as against ‘generals’ and a lot higher titles.
All having rank char bound does is discourage people from switching role. For us multiple toon players it means I’m 250 vit points lower than I would be on a toon whereas the ‘press 1’ staff waving noob who only ever plays guardian for maximum tags can get the bonus.
It’s truly annoying that you have to start over rank wise- and any ‘liquid Wexp’ isn’t going to make any sort of dent on the issue- my alt will still be 100’s of rank levels behind those who only play one toon.
Thanks to the uplevelled 20 afk’rs in EB right now making it a queue for EB but can only get 30 or less following com against 60+ viz…anything goes as long as long as they don’t have any interest in wvw or dealing with the various wvw abusers.
The botting guardian near our spawn giving free kills to viz for the last two hours is particularly amusing.
They should change the Wexp earned per kill to reflect the relative ranks of the fighters, as clearly rank has no correlation to skill.
I’d love to get a lot more Wexp from killing all the pvd ‘Generals’ and higher that I see wondering around as I play my Engineer alt (rank 7 whooo).
Also, restrict the amount of Wexp you can get from killing people with trebs, cat, ballys and AC- you really shouldn’t get the same amount of Wexp for standing hiding in a tower where you can’t be hit as for killing someone out in the open.
Viziblob night capping winning the match up for them- SFR have gone from a 8k lead to 10K+ deficit overnight.
Viz seem to think that SFR play for the win- the guilds don’t. They organise GvG, try and capture your garrison, but the one thing they don’t do is play the points game or think strategically about camps, dollies, etc. Consequently when the guild raids finish you have piles of supply, upgraded camps and can retake the map easily as all the pugs have gone and there is no one left to defend or take anything.
SFR lose as we as a server don’t care enough about the points game, so even at prime time we have no one for the pugs to follow in the borderlands (this is the ‘no tag’ policy by the main guilds who don’t want to be polluted by ‘pugs’), so people just tend to either drift around, or try and get into EB, or go back to pve- which means there are no queues on most borderlands at prime time (which suits the guild raids).
We don’t seem to have any ganking thiefs who can go and kill dolyaks to disrupt supply lines, nor people who want to form a 5 man camp capping team (as we all know Viz generally leave 1-3 people guarding a camp +bally or ac, etc).
As for Deso being on our side, the number of times I have seen Deso come piling in to a two way fight attacking SFR..lost count this week.
GoD need to change their name to ‘Guardians press 1’. It’s actually quite funny watching them, it’s like watching a bunch of robots ‘press 1, charge in, turn, press 1, charge, remember ele macro for boons and necro marks on recharge+wells’. Maybe one day they will GvG or just face off against a similar size guild team, until then they won’t get any respect . Was fun fighting you the other day on my necro, every time you turned there was less and less of you until eventually the remaining 4 ran away-and that was you trying to join a 2 way fight by charging in to our pugs from behind..
Respect to RAID for some good tactics on EB last night. Shows SFR’s complete lack of scouts as you were able to take gates down to 50% on watergate before anyone bothered to look!
Maybe one week when we face Viz we might play the points game and see how many we can beat you by- we’ll just have to not sleep to counter the late night/morning 70+ pvd experts.
After facing the kings of the defensive turtle (Viz, every one of them drops an AC as soon as they stop moving..), trebs that can hit your catapults or trebs but you cannot hit as they are tucked in corners of the tower, 70+ defenders and as many AC as it is possible to build within the space, the thought of buffing defences isn’t particularly appealing.
Would be good to buff tower defences somehow – maybe the solution is to make normal gates last 1 minute no matter how many rams are hitting them, and reinforced gates 3 minutes (or some other time period) so that defenders have a chance to react to a zerg attack on your towers- because at the moment gates melt way too fast against huge numbers (6 superior rams melt a gate in seconds).
And never been a fan of trebs being able to be built inside any structure – in real life the sieging army would have to build the siege out in the open.
Unhittable inside structure type trebs don’t make the game much fun, when you can destroy an upgraded wall without any fear of being attacked.
Only spvpers could complain that ranger pets are OP…
I’d like some way of getting achievement points whilst doing my wvw activities- apart from completing the daily where else do we get rewarded with achievement points?
Oh wait, I forgot, in another 6,000 dolyak kills I’ll get 5….
Maybe one day they will address the almost complete lack of achievement points in wvw , and fix the loot drop rate for rares and exotics so that it is more comparable to pve. I get more drops and make more money in the time I spend in the queen’s thing waiting on the queue (10-20 minutes) then I do for the rest of my playing time spend entirely in wvw.
The Viz blob is back with a vengeance tonight, going to be a close match up by the end of the week if they continue to field that many players at 1am.
We seem to have had a mad influx of new players, uplevelled, no guild tags, not on ts who are using up supply fixed walls being trebbed, wandering around the map aimlessly.
If you are one of them, please join ts, get into a wvw guild and read up on the do and don’t of what to do in wvw. And ditch the pve build and get something that can be useful in wvw. many thanks. Join a party and join the comm’s squad.
Of course, if you are someone’s second account and your main is on another server then I expect you to do nothing of the sort, it just shows how desperate certain people can be about ‘winning’. Seems our every move was known instantly by viz tonight.
Some epic battles in SM tonight before being totally outnumbered and our stubborn refusal to use siege (whilst viz don’t seem to be able to stand still for 10 seconds without throwing it down) when lag takes away all your skills (but not AC) finally lost us SM.
Keep up the good work during the day and mornings guys this is going to be mightily close by the end of the week.
This topic needs moving to the spvp section as it only relates to that- it has nothing to do with 90% of the game.
By all means nerf whatever you like Anet FOR SPVP only, but this really doesn’t need a nerf for pve or wvw.
I’ve run into one of these in wvw on my zerk LB/SB ranger and he melted me in seconds- but then a decent thief can do the same, a decent d/d ele, etc as my zerk is built purely as a camp capper and zerg supporter- sure I can beat some people on it, but the point I’m making is that I’m not complaining about the spirit ranger.
Spirit ranger is totally useless defending a tower/attacking a tower or in any group situation where more than 10 meet 10, as the spirits are gone within seconds.
I wish Anet would separate spvp skills from the rest of the game so they can adjust them to their hearts content without kitten ing off 90% of the player base that has no interest in guarding or capturing a node and building almost solely for 1v1 or 1v2 attrition battles.
With the queen’s thing going on in pve land atm the amount of money you can make there per hour is crazy compared to an average night running around in wvw.
What we need in wvw is a decent loot system- particularly noticed in wvw last night, if your not in a squad nor in a party the drop rate becomes terrible, and even partied and squadded it’s not great.
I’m guessing the chest you get for killing the champ ( taking a tower or keep) is meant as an encouragement to take these objectives but that just encourages more zergling behaviour.
Keep living world content out of wvw, it was bad enough having pve’rs taking all the slots to come and do jump puzzles. Sure, code in the drops the pve’rs are getting so we can get the goodies too but as for any storyline or making any daily reliant on living world content- no thanks.
What we need is some fresh wvw content (oh and a rank points reset ‘vendor’ so we can change our points allocation, seeing as you can’t be bothered to make them account wide and keep adding rank point related things).
How about a map with more underwater or new objectives underwater that grant a small bonus to the side that holds them- and no AC allowed under water so people would have to fight for those objectives which would encourage more open field battles.
Enjoyed tonight as started on engineer, then switched to ranger, then finally necro and had some good fights.
Highlight of the day for funny moment was building a sup bally in Umber camp whilst a Viz guardian watched, moving back and forth and obviously calling for help so he could attack- then realising he had got too close as I unleased the 10k damage on him, ty for the loot bag, then the ranger that came charging in, me hiding in the ogres, wait for him to be stunned by vets and BANG ‘man down!’. And then finally the brave soul who tried to ress the guardian, only to be downed as the guardian didn’t get out of range fast enough and the splash got you downed…
Ruined of course when WIPE came along with their 4 man (2 thief, one confusion warrior one ele) squad- knockdown stab stab stab vanish finish in stealth in about one second downed and 2 seconds all over- I wish I could mash buttons or trigger a macro that fast.
Many good fights, defending Bay was another with Viz retiring hurt after an hour or so.
I wish everyone would stop having a go at my guild tag: BLOB. Yes, there you go, conclusive proof that SFR has a BLOB.
Everyone blobs, it’s just the way the game goes- we all wish there was a proper GvG in the game, but instead we got wvw and spvp (and we all know which one ANet seems to think is important).
More interesting to note that the weekend warriors on Viz are more into farming the new events in pve than coming into wvw – wonder how the week will turn out? (At least their excuse is ready).
Was fun attacking Durios last night with 30 of us against 60 viz cowering behind their AC’s and catapults and ballistas (and 80% are playing guardian, ele and now confusion warrior). Only sad part was when the noob manning our treb decided to charge in with the rest of us when we really needed that cow.
Maybe one day we will just build AC’s closer and closer in until you all just fall off the back of the tower?
Some great fights in open field, and the usual double team thief gankers around.
Funniest moment was when a pair of invinci guardians finally split up, two of us chased one down, managed to kill him, he squaded me and complained that no one on SFR would ever let a duel happen without interupting!!! Well when you go around in two and three man teams ganking solo players, this is what happens…
Had some funny moments on my engineer which I dusted off and tried a weird condition/support build (which was useless 1v1..back to the drawing board) which worked OK but need to switch faster to make it effective.
You will find that the sort of people who do this have multiple accounts based on various servers, so banning transfers between rivals won’t work.
What we really need is some ingame presence by some Anet employees (they are called GM’s in other games)..
Was a fun day yesterday- mostly. Still the same problems with 2 and 3 man thief/ele ‘teams’ ganking (same ones that get reported all the time for using various cheats, nothing ever gets done), and the Vizi catapult/ac bots (easy to spot, fear them, they stand wherever fear ends until their owner notices and moves them) and the vizi one guardian two rangers (the rangers do EXACTLY the same moves at exactly the same time).
I’m sure there are a few on SFR and Deso too, please hit that report button if you see any, thanks!
Apart from that, the usual vizi hiding behind AC unless they outnumber you at least 2:1 or 3:1, although I did actually see a couple of 5 man squads capping guards and the occasional camp.
Had some great fights but the loot seems poorer, not quite so much lag as normal whenever facing the Viziblob.
Very enjoyable day, and good to see the score ticking along. Of course the score will go to pot during the week when our guilds run raids and there are no tags in borderlands as viz cap everything while the guilds get ready for their gvgs or guild ‘raid’ standing in the respawn area for a couple of hours. Maybe you guys could warm up by going around capping a few camps and a tower or two? Or for fun, split into 6 solo’s and attack all 6 camps at the same time so they all change to our colour at the same time.
Would be nice if we had a week off the glory boys and actually decided to play the points game for the week just to show we can still beat Viz on points if we want to. Or (God forbid!) we actually build some siege to take and defend towers instead of trying to run up and build rams against towers that are defended by the usual Viz 20 AC.
In the meantime, bring on the fights. Here’s a pro tip for thiefs- if I see you first on my zerk built LB/SB ranger and that first shot connects, reset the fight straight away- because if you keep coming my QZ’d buff fooded buffed rapid fire will leave you on the ground or forced to use your tent which I will then barrage and wait for you to pop out of stealth downed. Or bring a friend- seems like most of you have to go around in pairs now holding hands, or bring a friend and a d/d ele to use a knockdown that goes st8 through stability..
Thanks SPuRT for the fun in EB tonight- wiping you with 25 pugs against your 20 guild group at the north camp was fun, but you certainly got your revenge later as we gained more newbies- no queues anywhere tonight, people doing the new content, etc.
Was quite an epic defence of our keep with 50+ pikeys trying for hours to get a way in- in the end the need for sleep defeated me. Enjoyed the border hopping late on, that certainly got their attention! Every target I clicked on was either a guardian, warrior or an ele, found one necro- felt like switching to my guardian as I felt left out at the guardian meeting!
Cheers for the match up, met some highly skilled players during the week and hats off to you guys. Good luck next week whoever you get- I think we’ll be punished for having fun and have to face the AC wrath of Viz.
I brought this up in another thread..
This may be a measure to pull people away from WvW to participate in the new content. WvW was great for loot (best place IMO), but now the new Queen’s Jubilee content is far superior to WvW in regards to loot/gold.
Realistically, if your a player who played WvW mainly for loot, it doesn’t make sense anymore to farm there. You can easily fill your bags up in the new content in less than 30 min.
This also could have an indirect impact on the WvW populace if next’s weeks matches are mismatches. I highly doubt you’ll find servers that are getting blow out to remain in WvW when they can clean up in Queen’s Jubilee.
Anet better take note of the match-ups created next week
WvW has never been the best place for loot. It has always been the worst place, with the poorest drops and the poorest quality of drops. A single fractal run usually nets more than a whole night of WvW and even the new chests routinely drop greens when PvE chests have guaranteed rare items.
From my experience, fractals is atrocious for loot compared to WvW, but that also might depend on what servers we play on.
If you can convince me that fractals can net over 8g per hour then i’ll admit im doing something wrong in Fractals and I’m gladly all ears to get more if you have a suggestion.
My record right now in WvW (without getting any exotics and I believe 3 yellows) is 46g in just over 4hours of play. On average I get about 4-5g per hour and 15-20g a night (as I play usually 3-4hrs). Can fractals get me that?
I havn’t tested the current loot in WvW as I’ve been strictly doing Queen’s Jubilee. As I’m able to fill my bags in about 30 min of play in Queen’s jubilee.. from the sounds of it, it sounds like the go-to place instead of WvW.
No tag at the bottom of your signature, just who are you and how do you go about getting that sort of return in wvw, ie which server and guild do you play with, etc.
4-5g an hour? 15-20g a night? share your secret so we can all come share in your mega wealth.
Personally I barely make enough to cover my food costs and repair bills.
Maybe this guy is one of those spvpers that Anet believe everything they say, heard this from him and promptly nerfed the hell out of wvw drops without bothering to ask anyone else.
At less than one drop per three kills, each drop worth on average 50 copper, 600 kills per gold, that’s around 3,000 kills per hour or 50 EVERY MINUTE. Even doubling that drop rate leaves you at 25 kills a minute- how exactly can you do that?
Link won’t work for me-and I don’t remember us having many AC at the time you were raiding, although I do remember being outnumbered most of the time and wiping you a couple of times when our pugs got organised. We were outnumbered later on when GD and another blob were both raiding so a few AC were up then.
Of course pugs will run away when there is no comm and they are outnumbered by a guild group.
But grats for coming and sorting out the map- it was getting tedious holding all three keeps and then holding the far north one with 8 people for a couple hours, this new content thing is really screwing with all server numbers at the moment.
We had a lot of new wvw’rs in last night which was obvious as they wanted to be free bags to GD’s zerg, at one point we pulled right back to our keep as being wiped by a 30+ guild zerg which then swelled later to around 50 when you have 20-30 pugs spread all over the place wasn’t great.
Things got more even later on but the new content is playing havoc with our numbers this week, at one point we were ticking only 140 points.
Oh well, it least your raids kept things interesting, looking forward to seeing you and GD again tonight:-)
Grats to SPRT (or however you spell that) and GD for being reduced to running guild raids (20-30) against pugs (around 20) in EB- did you lose so badly to the guilds in borderlands that you had to come and play in pugland?
Little to no queues in EB today all day, and even had the ‘outnumbered’ tag on for a while, so I’m guessing a lot of people exploiting oops I mean ‘playing’ the new content.
Thanks for the fights this week, has been fun- I’m guessing we will get ‘run and hide behind our 100 ac’ server next week as punishment…
I found lich form to be terrible in zergs, put it up and be focused down within 2 seconds, which pretty much left me with no decent elite to play with- so i tend to run the little beastie so I can knock down someone when not in zerg battles (in zergs he’s mainly on cooldown, having knocked one over and promptly died rushing through aoe). When I’m on my ranger if you pop into lich you become my favourite target:-).
My necro build and foods generally allow me to run through the middle of the zerg throwing down marks, then wells, then turn around and walk back through zerg stealing health and healing allies, breaking up their formations and coming out the other end at or near 100% HP.
As to the OP’s list of ‘bads’, the only ‘bad’ I see is you, for failing to appreciate that some people can sucessfully run other builds (usually designed for a purpose other than ganking people 1v1).
If I’m not needed at that time for an attack/defence I’ll frequently run at 2-3 players on my zerk LB/SB ranger and see how many I can take down, or 4-5 if on my necro, just as it helps me learn more than if I avoid the fights.
Got to say, my favourite is being attacked by a thief on my necro – if the thief is lucky he gets away before he dies, been one thief I have faced who could beat me, I took my hat off to him in another thread as he could actually really play his class well.
Before patch: turned down all graphics settings in the hope of being able to move/cast in large scale fights, worked most of the time, still ended up only using 1 in SM fights, nothing else would cast.
After patch: now d/c regularly, usually during large scale fights, which is very annoying when playing in primetime in EB as it’s basically ‘queue for an hour or two’ to get back in at that time of night.
Large scale fights, now can’t hit anything, just watch everyone basically freeze on screen, run around aimlessly, then it either tries to catch up or boots me.
I’m not playing on the best connection in the world, but my computer used to handle all the graphics on max with ease, this has slowly got worse every patch.
As long as it works OK in spvp I doubt they will do anything about it any time soon.
I’m especially pleased they buffed thiefs heals last patch or two ago…if you are expecting any sort of nerf to thiefs, dream on- all their skill adjustments so far are entirely spvp based (they even consult with top spvp players, ignoring wvw entirely), where capping and holding points is king and hence the nerfs to all and sundry if it interferes with that.
A mod should just close the thread, nothing will change, or if they do change it they will give thiefs another buff at the same time.
I don’t know why they didn’t also make wexp reflect the difference in ranks between players, so if my rank 10 (say) mesmer kills a rank 300 thief my mes gets say a 1wexp point bonus per 10 rank difference, whereas if he kills me he gets a penalty to his wexp.
Would make it slightly easier to level up ranks on alts etc and address the issue, as apparently us multi alt users (we like variety) are not going to gte account wide anything any time soon.
Personally i’d love to see scaled maps solely for GvG with the same sort of format as the old GvG maps and objectives as in GW1, with an option to select the number of players you want to match up with: 5v5, 10v10, 15v15, 20v20, 25v25, 30v30, with an overall leaderboard and leaderboards for each section, and a decent matching system and being held over both EU and NA servers as one group rather than separating them out.
They would also need a few simple rules like no more than one of each class in 5v5, one of each class must be present in 10v10, no more than 3 of any class (and at least of of each class) in 15v15, etc to ensure people don’t just roll 30 guardians and run off to kill each other’s guild lords.
30 minute maximum match up, points and a bonus gained for holding central objective, match ends after 30 minutes or when a guild lord is killed, I’m sure some sort of points system can be added too.
WvW would still be popular as it offers more casual gameplay but the addition of watchable GvG matches would revitalise the entire pvp aspect of the game.
Been some fun fights so far, hat off to the thief that beat my necro TWICE from piken, it’s great to be attacked by some decent thiefs after facerolling Viz thiefs for a week on my ranger (exception was two thiefs from Viz, but as they only ever came out in pairs that didn’t count- and they frequently lost too). Maybe I should switch to a solo build instead of my group support build…
It’s fun to roam on my ranger during ‘prime time’ when the guilds aren’t interested in the points tally and don’t bother with the mundane dolly killing, guard points, camps, etc that add so much to the score. It’s one of the reasons we don’t beat Viz- missing out on all those lovely points when we can means that their 6am to 3pm pvd specialists clock up too much of a lead. But we just don’t really care about the score overall any more- it’s much more fun to have open field fights against more or less equal numbers.
I’m a free kill for decent thiefs on my ranger if I don’t spot you coming, but that’s the price I pay for running my noob LB/SB zerky (sort of) ranger (the other two rangers are tanky but I don’t tend to play those).
Switched back to necro last night, great to have some real battles in EB last night with enemies that don’t always run no matter who has more numbers, but instead form up, buff up and come and fight- it’s like having guild battles but without the egos and the standing around taking up space for an hour or two while the rest of you queue for the border so that you have your guild ready for some action.
It’s great fun running straight through the middle of the fights, coming out the other end, turning around and DS to heal up friendlies and finish off enemies:-)
Maybe it’s time to look at limiting the number of AC’s/ballistas per keep or perhaps giving them a footprint so that, for instance, you can’t build 10 AC and 5 Ballistas in the lords room in SM, or can’t have ten AC defending one tower.
Not sure how many would make a decent balance or what size footprint would be appropriate- maybe two per door at each door then 1000 range between others?
I’d like to thank Viz for the wonderful amount of bags dropping at my zerk ranger’s feet (and the necro came out last night and filled up fast too, thanks again), and seeing a lot more Viz rangers this week none of whom seemed to know how to play it- guess they trying to jump on the ranger bandwagon with 3 seconds of stealth…I’ll give you a hint, utility slots FTW!
Thanks also to setting new speed records at retreating whenever the odds aren’t 3:1 or more in your favour (and even then 50+ ran away from 15 of us until they were safely under their AC’s).
Towards the end of the week I saw a couple 5 man and 10 man ‘solo’ roaming teams- one of which actually jumped on 3 of us and promptly lost, gg.
I’d like to thank thiefs in general for being able to kill me very easily-even then most viz thiefs go around with at least a d/d ele and maybe another thief just to be safe.
Maybe they will introduce a new 2 AC limit per door in wvw – then you would really be stuffed.
I love fighting against you Viz, even when we are wiped by your 80+ blob as we are 30-40, it’s always good for a laugh.
JS, thanks for all the fun as always much respect to you guys for some good fights- at least your solo roaming thief took the time after stealth finishing me to /bow for the good fight we had. One bad spot was when I went to help 2 of them kill off a Viz necro near a camp and after we’d nailed the necro JS’s zerg chased me down (40 people chasing one poor ranger..).
Other highlights- taking a camp and watching 50 viz come to see what’s happening. Taking a camp with less than a second to spare before viziblob turns up- who then mill around for 3 minutes not knowing quite what to do, then trail off and don’t even react when i pick off a couple stragglers.
One day SFR might decide to play the points game (you know, take out all dollies, make sure all guard points are flipped before points tally, cap all camps, have a 50+ night zerg pvd’ing) but I hope not. As a Pug I like our current system as I can relax and have fun, join in a few raids when I come across them and queue for EB when I feel like seeing a few more even battles.
Galen, that’s totally fail logic on the pricing of rings that basically drop in a couple of runs in fractals- if you make them tradeable then the price will be reasonable.
Basing a price on the dreamworld of 8g an hour makes no sense at all- how many people would seriously farm 8 hours a day to make 64g a day for 20 days? How long until they quit as they have nothing left to do with the money- apart from sell it to gold sites?
Why does 8 hours equate to a laurel? Takes minutes to run a fractals with a hardcore team, takes 30 minutes to run a daily, why take 8 hours as your base?
I may as well say a bag of chips should cost $1000, based on the fact the potatoes take 6 months to grow and the farmer earns $10 per hour….
Anyway, all of the resentment towards all this time gated content could be cured by having everything tradeable, so that those who are time-poor (you know, us people who work/have families/etc) can keep up with the gear progression, etc.
I have 60 repair canisters, 50 glory increasers, and loads of other stuff in my bank that I would love to be able to sell off as I’m never going to use them- but at the moment the choice is store it or destroy it, and destroying them doesn’t seem sensible.
ANet need to have a real good rethink on all this ‘account bound’ rubbish, and start making things like charged quartz tradeable- you can still only make one a day but at least then you would have the option of trading for them if you don’t happen to log in to the game like a slave every day to do all your daily chores.
That wasn’t a personal insult- guardians have way more in terms of heals, condition removals, defences, etc than necros and can survive very well with the right builds- that huge heal, retaliation, etc make taking down a guardian a real pain.
Necros aren’t OP as they are quite easy to kill if you know their skill sets and how the average wvw player plays it- and the best counter against a necro is another necro.
See soooo many guardians in wvw now, wonder why that is…could be as they are hard to kill and can tag lots of kills,,,
Not even going to join in- a guardian moaning about necros is just too funny.
Great fights yesterday at Bay – had JS attacking, Viz waiting behind them until we fully committed then charging in after we’d wiped JS, followed by Viz wiped, wait two minutes and rinse and repeat. My bags got full twice within an hour (110 slots!), so many thanks for the ranks and bags. Just wish so many Viz gave more than 1 or 2 wexp each- they need to learn to live longer!
Cheers to the commanders yesterday as usual you guys lead us pugs well- I’m a pug as I can’t use ts.
And I’m running zerk ranger LB/SB so thiefs look for me I’m an easy kill, having a rest from my ‘laugh at thiefs all day’ necro until I figure out a new build on him.
I predict the stealth duration will be nerfed in a future patch without the vuln being put back on.
Finally a reason to remove the SB from my bow build and throw on the GS…thief running in, start rapid before he stealths (using might and fury boosts and QZ) and when he pops up next to you at 40% hp or anywhere near you, stealth and leap at him on GS.
Going to be a pile of people jumping on ranger now or dusting them off, should be fun for next few weeks running through barrages on the necro.
Although all those guardian buffs are tempting me to dust off the guardian..
Goodbye 20/20/10/20/0 build for wvw, I loved you so but greater marks 20 points I cannot cope.
Smaller marks for my wvw support build isn’t going to work, so need to find 10 points from somewhere and don’t want to lose them from anywhere else as then the build won’t be as balanced.
DS changes are fair enough, hopefully they have fixed the damage problems.
Looks like it might be back to ranger with the 3 second stealth on hunter’s shot- whatever made them think that was a good idea?
If you don’t like golem rushes, restrict your opponents supply by making sure you retain camps/use the supply in them/degrade their defences so they use up supplies in keeps etc.
With siege being so cheap now one person can keep a camp permanently drained so when it is flipped the enemy gets 0 supply.
The problem is that a lot of people don’t consider camps a priority or even dolyaks and hence the enemy builds up huge piles of supplies- at which time golem rushes become possible.
Personally I love golem rushes as they add some fun to WvW- and that’s either defending against them or rolling with one, the tactics and different.
Of course it helps if you have some people willing to drop and build some defences too and some scouts and people willing to spend some time doing things that are boring instead of running with the nearest zerg or soloing others on their thief.
With the number of thiefs being played it’s amazing that any dolyaks are on a map ever- but then thiefs are mainly there to snipe people not prevent the enemy from receiving supplies…
Devon has missed his calling- he should have been a politician with an answer like that- it looks like an answer, smells like an answer, but actually says precisely nothing whilst pretending to be an answer.
Op: No point in asking for any sort of nerf to thief or d/d ele mechanics based on wvw as they don’t take a blind bit of notice when making ‘balances’.
It is fun to run into a 5 man roaming team of 3 thiefs, a d/d ele and a mesmer just for the laughs watching them appear and disappear whilst taking an age to down my necro (which is terribly OP in wvw, please nerf me).
Whilst I’m here, big grats to the thief that tried 1v1 me last night, was a great fight until your friends joined in, hopefully meet again soon!
remove your go faster stripes and try and run around solo without decent speed boosts, then come back and tell me the maps are too small…they only seem small as you are either perma speed boosted or moving in a boosted bunch.
Biggest problem I see is going to be the noobs building golems and using up all the supplies in places where you need it to repel attacks. They will build a golem or three, then march off outside with it (dieing before getting anywhere) and then go back and try again…
I long for the day when they finally realise that people want 10,15,20,25,30, 30+ GVG maps and actually create them so that guilds can actually fight guilds at a size that suits them and have a table showing who is ‘best’ for each section.
It was my main driving force in gw1 for a long time back when the ladder meant something and being in a top guild meant hours of gvg every night to maintain the position.
Would be great to see expanded version of the old gvg maps (scaled according to size of gvg), and even a fully or almost completely underwater one- I’m sure gvg would be popular and would keep people’s interest as well as removing the 30 people standing around for an hour or so taking up spaces in wvw formign their teams for gvg in the only place that it can currently take place.
Good to see RG in action again, just a shame by the time I managed to load up GW2 EB was pug central with no organisation.
Was fun watching individuals running after you 3-4 at a time and then you guys turning and wiping them- some people never learn. I blame it being the weekend warriors…
Had a decent fight near a flag and got a few of you downed but then instead of pressing the pugs fell back and that was the end for me.
Love and kisses from Necrotic Victory, mainly EB pug (as I can’t use TS 99% of the time due to RL).
It is very simple when you consider it, Ranger players did not sign up for a class that is weaker then any other. Which it is, their is nothing the player can do to stop it, If we call back our pet to save it, we lose 30-40% DPS, if the boss or champ uses a move that the PLAYER has to avoid, the pet Can Not do so, so it gets hurt or killed, thus losing 30-40% DPS, if we Kite, we lose 30-40% DPS. as pets cant hit moving targets, pets cant dodge AoE, Pets cant smartly attack targets and know to stay out of “fire” Pets will willingly run through poison, traps, flames, and all sorts of nastieness. so in the end no matter what the PLAYER does, the Ranger loses 30-40 % of their total DPS at some point in a fight, their is no other class that has so much DPS lost on a mechanic that they basically have no control over, the only way to keep the kitten pet alive is to keep it on passive. and guess what. that loses… you guessed it. 30-40% of DPS. i picked a ranger to be an expert at range. not to babysit a broken Ai that i would gladly kill off and do without. i dont need the pet. i need my DPS to be equivalent to other classes.
Add also: can’t use from in towers or to attack people on walls in towers (except for useless skill on long cooldown and requires you to stand practically underneath the wall to use, if they didn’t ‘fix’ it), 40% damage gone.
No other class is quite so kitten in so many situations as this one.
And Anet don’t seem to realise this or just don’t care, as long as their precious spvp gets ‘balanced’.
Fact remains that with all the ‘miss miss dodge dodge blocked’ that you get as a ranger and a pet that either doesn’t hit the target or dies before it gets there or is useless in many situations in wvw this class isn’t much fun to play in wvw unless you run around being a soloist with a build built just for that.
Sure, rangers can win 1v1 or even 2v1 against a lot of other players with the right builds, but that doesn’t change the fact that the nerf has been done purely for spvp without any consideration for anything or anyone else and has left a sour taste in the vast majority of rangers mouths.
Much more fun classes to play – I dig out the rangers, play them for maybe ten minutes, get annoyed with pets missing everything (maybe if pets were immune to cripple and stun…) and the fact that MY OWN PET can block my attacks- obstruction- and the fact that barrage means you get to stand still forever whilst casting it, then switch to something that feels more like it’s making a contribution to wvw.
I can’t even be bothered logging into one of my three rangers…
Chopps suggestion that Companions Might is any sort of help is quite amusing, seeing as most decent players in wvw can avoid ever being hit by the pet, rendering that skill completely useless- if your pet is even alive after the first 3 seconds of any decent scale fight.
What about when you are defending or trying to take a tower? That skill is a wasted slot, and now to use your sb you need to stand even closer to the rain of AC, which your pet will stand in and die in seconds.
Single reason they nerfed sb range- so thiefs can get away easier when you unload lb, switch to sb as the thief is running away and wtf kitten range, no longer able to hit as the thief is out of range.
Might be able to solo roam around and catch a few 1v1 with your gs/trap/everything to allow your pet to actually land a hit but in most situations in wvw rangers are now a very poor second best to every other class – even engineers have better roaming builds, can hit from walls and onto walls from way further away with constant aoe, and are more useful in groups.
As usual, ‘balance’ has been solely dictated by spvp to the detriment of everyone else playing the game.
I’m glad I don’t do dungeons (or pve at all) as after this patch the chances of getting a group as a ranger are even lower than they were before.
Roll a ranger, and experience a real challenge trying to deal with the nerf bat that just came from nowhere.
I am lost for words on this joke of a patch.
Nerfing pet damage, when it’s supposedly 50% of our overall damage, with NOTHING given in return.
And then the icing on the cake- forget using a shortbow, we have REDUCED the range from something decent to something that is now useless if trying to hit anything from a wall- while that other class can happily hit you from miles away.
I swear they are clueless about this class, and it’s quite clear they all used to play thief and now spend time on their guardians when they aren’t on thiefs.
I’m convinced they don’t test any of this stuff with any real players or ask anyone who actually plays about any of these changes- EVERYONE would have told them rangers don’t need a nerf and to nerf by such a huge amount all in one go AND reduce the range by 1/3…..some thief playing dev must really hate us!
That’s SFR practicing for when we get Viz next week, where if that were a Viz bunch it would be called ‘small capping party’:-)
SFR can’t blob properly- we don’t seem to be able to get past 50, and usually run with 20-30..we need the Viz instruction manual- we’ll just rewrite the bit about mindlessly dieing all the time in the field or hiding behind 20 AC unless you outnumbered enemies 3 to1 at least…
Let’s see how it pans out- sadly not going to get much GW2 time this week, so can’t add myself to the blob!
