Uh no.
I don’t care about your profit margins. All I care about is if I get my gold asap, and that’s what I do when I undercut.
I’ve used the stones in a combination about 20 times.
It gives you something else random, even if you have three of the same type.
I don’t see any reason why it shouldn’t give you a chance at a precursor – I’ve heard instances of people getting one using that method.
Of course, don’t expect it to reward a higher chance of a precursor, we don’t have that information.
So you decided to gamble on the forge…and it’s no surprise you lost.
Yet you want to complain? Don’t gamble to begin with and you won’t lose gold.
If only WvW gave you loot scaled to your actual level…
sick of picking up lvl 10 junk or t2 mats.
Yes, let’s both get banned over this by exchanging large sums of gold
How about stick to the topic and provide proof.
I don’t have time to waste on petty bets
They have said many times that their focus right now is improving the game. If and when they release expansions, they will certainly notify us…
It’s not a bug.
The medal rewards are not scaled to your level, but scaled to the level of the event.
Most likely those events are off by one level, and as such you see the different amounts.
And that link you provided – karma rewards are always low when you bring a higher lvl main to a lowbie zone. You do not get ‘scaled’ event medal rewards.
You do know that event rewards (the exp, karma and coin) are not affected by DR right? What did you expect? More gold for each event completed?
And what do you want? Guaranteed rares in each chest?
You do know that event rewards actually ARE effected by DR right?
I’m not talking about chest loot. I’m talking about the little medal you get on the top right with exp, karma and gold.
Yep so am I. I am willing to put a rather large wager that DR does in fact effect how much exp, karma, and coin one receives when it is triggered.
The whole dragon chest bugged issue dealt with this.
I’ve farmed shelt/pen numerous times over 8 hours straight. I never hit DR in terms of those rewards. Always the same amount.
There USED to be DR in terms of exp/karma/gold. But they removed that a long time ago (November)

skorpious, can you link the post where a dev say that?
They said this twice about a month ago, too lazy to find the link
That being said I doubt it’s high on the priority list (and it shouldn’t be)
They already said they’re working on adding more combinations

I don’t want to get too off topic, but lets be really. I have played since pre launch. I am not a “hard core” player but I play an hour or two pretty much every day and have always completed all of my monthlies and dailies.
I pretty much do open world, a few fractals and dungeons, and some WvW.
Two level 80s.. both with two 400 crafting and in exotics. So I have wasted SOME money, but most of it I have saved. I have total right now, about 60 gold. Figure in the money I’ve wasted, I have probably generated like 120-150 since launch.
Now compare that to people who are listing legendaries/precursors. They spend my life total in gold, just in LISTING fees. There is a huge problem with wealth in the game. I don’t think its a problem with farming, like the original OP states, unless farming is THAT profitable.
I feel the issue is a combination of market manipulators combined with early game bugs, and DR issues that hammer legitimate players (both casuals and hard core people).
So you play 2/3 hours a day, and you expect to have the same wealth as a guy who plays 6-12 hours a day? What kind of rational is that?
So what exactly do you suggest?
Let’s reward people in WvW the same amount of gold per hour as farmers?
Well that won’t work at all. Because then those shelt/pen/cof1 farmers would gravitate to WvW and farm that. And they’d still make more money than you because those farmers spend more time in the game than you.
If we could trade gold for karma/laurels, that could be a really good sink.
“I love culling” – said no one ever, except maybe thieves
Arenanet is working on it man. Do you think they intentionally do this to grief you?
well hang on to your ancient bones, those are becoming quite rare, dón’t know how much stock people are sitting on but they are now dropping at only a fraction of the frequency they used to, thanks to 28th jan patch.
And i have to agree with almost everything vol wrote.
Yeah I just spent about 80g buying up ancient bones at roughly 5.5s
The market for t6 is puzzling at the moment. You’d think powerful bloods would go down but they just keep rising…and I expected bots to come back by now but I don’t see any.
The strange thing is that I don’t notice the risen dropping bones at a higher rate. However, the risen spiders keep dropping more sacs than usual.
Yeah I do all that.. guess I am just unlucky.. seriously my drops are mostly bones and some salvage items, next highest is blues and moldy bags with the occasional green and mats. Rares I have gotten maybe 6 total out of all the times I have been out there and no exotics. I just stopped going was not fun or worth my time. I went because of posts like this that made it sound like a gold mine… it is not that way for everyone. I tried for maybe 2 months and just decided it was not for me. Maybe if I made 6 g when I was there I would think differently.
As I mentioned earlier, rares/exotics are not where you get your money from. Any you get are a bonus. You get most of your money selling the t5/t6 you get, plus the moldy bag contents which are not hit by DR. So don’t get discouraged when you are on a dry spell of rare drops.
I should also note that perhaps you need to find a better class that is superior to tagging – guardian (assuming you aren’t one)
You are very lucky and honestly I doubt many could claim to make that much from those. I usually get no rares and am lucky to get over 1 gold from this in an hour. I have never gotten an exotic. And yes I am usually in a full party which is suppose to make you rich.. I do get more but not near 6g. You had a lucky day is all I see here.
The majority of players in Orr do not farm correctly or efficiently
The best ways to be efficient in your farming:
-do not waste time on veterans unless there are no other waves present
-always make sure you and your party are in the same area hitting the same mobs
-keep your character moving around a wave so that your attacks keep hitting different mobs
-If there is another wave spawning while you are currently clear one wave, you do not need to wait around to kill it. You can let others kill that first wave and you move to the second
-Fight mobs near the camp so you can easily switch sides. Do not camp the mobs at their spawns (i.e. the risen mobs at the bottom of the stairs or the risen spiders at the bottom of the stairs)
Some players would get an ancient kittenather than a powerful blood, and at these blood prices that’s a huge difference.
Or some players will get lucky and get 3 rares in one event
Just so everyone here knows, you make most of your money off moldy bags, which is not influenced by DR.
Any rares/exotics you get is a bonus. So you can just ignore DR.
OP obviously hasn’t been looking at the t6 prices since the patch. The price of bloods has not doubled in the past few days. It’s been hovering from 25-30s.
The only T6 I can remember having a huge increase lately is armored scales.
Actually mate I was watching the blood prices, as I figured these are going to be the most expensive of the t6 mats I have been watching them closely. They were 16 silver a few days ago, trust me I was all over watching th price. It has doubled. The price of blood is ridiculously high, this is not a good barrier for new players trying to craft their first exotics.
If by “a few days ago” you mean “4 weeks ago” then yes, you are correct.
We’re not going to “trust you” on this because we can all look at the history and see the price hasn’t dipped below 25s in the past week.
TY, saved me on all the work :P
I think he just wants to exaggerate to paint us speculators/flippers as destroying the economy
After reading here multiple times how tough it is to get gold through farming and how it is absolutely necessary to use the tradepost if you were to ever acquire enough gold to buy a precursor, i decided to just take some of my time and note down how much gold i make from farming in cursed shore.
Below you find the results of 3 hours of gameplay i did, there was a 5 minutes pause between each hour to tally up the results. Diminishing Returns were never experienced. I play on Desolation, a heavy populated server, medium pop would be best for farming. The character: thief/shortbow 138%magicfind+10%guildbuff+10%banner during hour #2/3

Tips:
1.thief/warrior/elementalist are best for farming due to their strong aoe with low cd’s
2.cooldown on shelter= 12/14 minutes, cooldown on penitent=16/18 minutes, you can do other stuff while waiting (tradepost/farm sparks/collect ori ore)
3.always join a party, more %damage done to the mob results in better loot
4.make your own guild so you can always have the 10%magicfind guildbuff up
No one claims that 3/4g is the max, though I’am averaging 4g/h since the January update.
If you want to get technical, you can make 500g/h just by lucky precursor drops…3 hours is not long enough to get an appropriate rate – you need a larger sample size considering the huge variability in event timers, players killing waves before you can get to them, and drop rates.
Accusing people like Vol and FireGoth of buying gems, or using the bugs that existed early on is just plain sad. Suck it up people. I’m a casual player who has played since launch, and I started working towards my legendary about 3 and a half weeks ago. I’m already 48% of the way there. I made a spreadsheet that takes into account everything I need (including tokens for dungeon gift, BoH etc) except for the precursor.
On weekdays I only play an hour or two at most to get my daily, and on the weekends I play all the time unless I’m travelling. Doing my daily in Orr each day has got me tonnes of the mats I need. I have most of the wood planks I need for the gift of wood and nearly half the tier 6 mats. 3 and a half weeks people?! Why are you being such kittenes? It isn’t hard!
If you are buying all your mats on the trading post, you’re making the process a lot less legendary for yourselves. Get yourself a MF set, wipe away the tears and get into Orr.
Not necessarily accusing but like Firegoth even said, he made his cash early in the game which couldn’t be done today. Alot of the people tho tha have multiple legendaries tho did get the precursors from exploits or shady deals.
And as for being 48% done, what legendary are you making? Not all of em are equal. Like when i made Kudzu, it was pretty easy. No need for lodestones so that alone cut down on about 150g in onyx lodestones or over 300g in charged lodestones. So 48% can mean squat since Gift of mastery is pretty much free and you make something like Gift of energy for a Bifrost or meteorlogicus, that’s pretty cheap as well. Stuff like Gift of Twilight or Gift of Sunrise, yeah those are expensive as well as Gift of fortune. Again, depends on the legendary cause they are not all equal in cost of production.
But anyways like i said, i personally am not necessarily accusing either of them 2 for exploiting but 3 or 4 legendaries in 5 months of the games release meant they got precursors early on or got lucky cause right now, unless you made one of the cheaper ones(which are still around 150g+ precursors), you are looking at 600g+ for each precursor x3 or 4 alone.
Laughable. Just cause we bought a legendary that was half what it is now doesn’t matter. Back then, it was at market value. When I bought my bifrost it had a value at around 140g. When I bought my Sunrise, it had a value of around 400g.
Now, you have a Dusk valued at 600g. Let’s suppose 6 months down the road it’s now 1200g – how would you feel when people accuse you later on that you got ‘lucky’. I’d feel pretty dumbfounded that people would get bitter over such a reasonable thing.
No one got lucky in paying market price at that time.
And making blanket statements that all multiple legendary holders abused some feature just shows your affinity to generalize people. But hey, I do it too.
Nope, I have a 9-5 job, a few years removed from university. Proof I made it and didn’t buy it for real $.
I don’t think you realize just how expensive it would cost for someone to buy a legendary from gem to gold sales.
What does it proof? There’re hundreds of Gold sellers, you could just buy gold and buy the mats from that.
Lets be honest 99% of Legendaries are made of either bug abuse or gold sellers. Other 1% is no life grinding or luck.
(Except if you just finished one by now)
It’s proof that I didn’t buy it straight from the TP. Those three legendaries still cost approximately 3m karma and 1500 badges, so it was hard work.
As for buying gold and buying the other mats, I can’t prove otherwise. If you strongly believe I bought gold feel free to report me.
So is it true the hardcore guilds of Sea of Sorrows has decided to quit and move on to another server?
Unfortunately there will be several smaller, casual guilds who will complain that the larger scale content is too difficult. Just wait!
Colin already stated that they’re coming up with selectable dailies in the February patch, and will also introduce more daily options in the near future, such as jump puzzles per day, killing x frogs or x bosses, e.t.c.
The moment you introduce something that is fun, there will also be people out there who will complain that it’s boring, hard and time consuming.
Maybe instead of farming these dailies one by one, you do an activity you like and complete it at the same time – like doing Fractals.
Four. I have three already.
I quite simply don’t have the desire to do map completion a 3rd time.
Unless of course they come out with new legendaries…
3 legendaries already? I can’t even grasp how you guys managed to make so many!
No job, no wife, no life? Other than that i can’t see it either unless you whip out the plastic and buy gold or you used the godskull weapon exploit back when the game was new and stocked up on precursors and now are unloading em and using the cash to buy mats.
Nope, I have a 9-5 job, a few years removed from university. Proof I made it and didn’t buy it for real $.
I don’t think you realize just how expensive it would cost for someone to buy a legendary from gem to gold sales.
True but you said you got 3 legendaries already and want to make 1 more for a total of 4. That means you would need to do map completion 2 times for a total of 4 explorer tokens for 4 legendaries. Don’t need to do the 3rd map completion unless you plan on making 5-6 legendaries. Or maybe i misread that as in you only will do 4 since you don’t want to do map completion a 3rd time…regardless the grind for precursors atm is just a big turnoff which is kinda why i’ll make 1 more prolly since i got 1 already unless i get bored and something new comes out
Yup that’s what I meant. As soon as I hit four I’m done, if I want anymore I’d have to suck it up and do map completion, but I’ll only do that if we have new skins come out.
Can someone provide a link showing why anyone would assume this has been changed?
There is no link. It’s just people using a small sample size of experience and generating conclusions on it, which is prety poor.
We’ve had several threads about this:
John Smith’s link provided in here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Euro-users-paying-30-more-for-gems
leads to here
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/gems-1-1-1/first#post90768
Not only did they push out the supposedly big WvW patch, they also toned down the expectations for it. I’m not expecting to be overwhelmed by it. The best case for me is that ANet makes the game tolerable enough to stick with until TESO comes out, but ANet’s lack of responsiveness on key issues doesn’t make that very likely.
So you’d prefer Arenanet to make a big fuss on a huge patch and then subsequently release it full of bugs resulting in a terrible experience.
Gotcha.
Why do you need to do map completion 3 times? Each time you do it, it gives you 2 exploration tokens and a legendary only requires 1. I plan on doing prolly 2. By the time i’m done with that, ESO will prolly be out
Each map completion gives you two tokens, so doing map completion twice will allow you no more than four legendaries. If you want more, you need to do map completion again.
Four. I have three already.
I quite simply don’t have the desire to do map completion a 3rd time.
Unless of course they come out with new legendaries…
Small sample size.
10 badge of honor/ring is fair
lol you can get 10 badges just wiping a zerg
You aren’t allowed to creating titles specifing devs in general or certain devs, just giving you a heads up (may be locked)
I really don’t get why people are against an economy… seeing from the forum posts it seems that people actually want a game where every item has a fix prize… let’s say 1000g for high end items and every enemy you kill grants you 5 copper. Now you know exaaaactly how much time you’ll need, there are no random loot drops and no other kind of drops…
What? Does that sound boring to you? Well guess what: people actually like loot. They actually like the ability to sell things for a price they seem fitting. But are people that understand the market evil? Is it a bad economy if players can decide prices THEMSELFS??? I think not..
Another example of “evil” market players: if i bought 100 ectos at 14s ea ( ~ 5-6 months ago) in order to craft some exotics and my exotic armour. But then i decide that i like dungeon armour more and i start farming it. Well surprise 5 months later i still have my ectos and they are 40s now. Am i an evil market manipulator now?? Because that is basically what market flippers do… this is neither evil nor a bad economy.
It let’s you a lot of freedom but appaerently that’s not what players want…
Well just like RL, the poor like to hate the rich for the sake of being rich. They seem to think that the poor class deserves as much wealth as the rich, but they don’t want to make the sacrifices that the rich make.
So i thought a lot about this topic because it’s really interesting for me. I came to the conclusion that the gem conversion and the influnce conversion are major gold gold sinks!
If i take my gold and convert it to gems (which doesn’t give them to other players) and spend my gems on one of those cute quaggan bps i actually destroyed money didn’t i?As of buying influnce for your guild. If i spend 2g on influnce for my guild i destroyed my own money aswell. It’s kinda unuseful because there’s nothing you would actually need it for but it might be a possibility :P
That gold is given to other players. But they do not receive all the gold that you had spent converting to gems, due to the tax, which is the gold sink.
How is it given to other players? I always thought that the more people confert gold —> gems the more the prize of gems is rising? It would make it more expensive for everyone O.o
If you have two players in this economy, the person who bought 1000 gems for 10G would send about 7g to the person who bought and sold 1000 gems (with 3G lost in taxes as a gold sink)
of course they screwed that when they made them sellable
Getting the ~2000 gold is still a major achievement, in one way or another.
Which is no where remotely close to gaining everything via play. It’s completely out of kilter.
In the past month, I’ve looted 820g from the TP with constant sales of 2 items (no flipping, simply a twist on core conversion).
2000 gold is not a likely amount that you’re going to see at once, but you’ll get there.
Precisely my point…gaining gold via the tp vs gaining gold/items via gameplay
I don’t know. I know a few people who have made several hundred gold without “playing the TP.” If you toss in an extremely lucky Dusk drop or two, you’re up to 2k pretty quick. I know I’ve made around 50g in about the past 2 weeks not counting any flipping or investing, and that’s without doing more than 1-2 fractals and maybe 5 or so dungeons. If I were playing more aggressively in an attempt to get money, I’d probably have made 150g-200g in the past 2 weeks. That’s pace for 5-7 months to make 2000g.
It’s a common excuse from casual players that you can only make money from the TP. You can make 4g/h doing shelt/pen runs. While investing in the TP accounted for some of the progress for my legendaries, it’s probably no more than 20% of the total funds.
Vol, do you mind sharing your trick for making 4g/h doing shelt/pen runs? If that was possible, I would be doing 400 gold every month. I can’t even fill in my inventory in 1 hour of shelt/pen…
Sure,
Please note that the 4g/h includes all vendored items and all sold items, like t6, t5 and globs from rares.
-Run a tele guardian with staff/gs (guardian is best class for melee/range tagging and mobility)
-find a server which has players who do not camp the risen or spider sides, but prefers to go back and forth
-don’t stick around to kill a mob. Just do enough damage to get credit and move to the other wave/side
-run with a competent party who doesn’t beat on one veteran for one minute while completely ignoring the dozen mobs just around the corner
Is there really something against partying? You can leave if you wish. Are you afraid people will look at your portrait and call your character ugly?
It’s part of running shelt/pen and due to the popularity, you need to party up to get loot.
You are not forced to run it. Arenanet is not forcing you to do content. But you choose to do it and unfortunately for you, there are requisites that need to be met to take advantage of it fully.
It’s like trying to do a dungeon and then you’re complaining that you’re forced to do it in a group. No one is forcing you.
after 2 hours of farming in magic find gear, I collected *3*of my own………………………
How the hell is the average player supposed to afford to get 250 of these mats when they are so high? Why are they skyrocketing so much? 2 hours of farming to be able to only buy single digits of a t6 mat (not even a lodestone)!?
Isaiah CartwrightYou’ll travel all over, collecting items and amassing materials to build your Legendary Weapon.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/my-legend-grows-forging-your-first-legendary-weapon/
Sure, like doing dungeon runs, doing WvW across all the maps, getting map completion, grinding specific mobs for lodestones/t6 or buying them yourself
Marrik hun I believe many of us that talk to you have already stated that those Legendaries in the market are placed there by others who basically are showing off, they don’t expect people to actually buy the item they are showing they made it “hey eveyrbody look i made this sword now I’m gonna overprice it because i want you all to know i made this.” I seriously don’t see people actually wanting to buy those things.
.
That would be believable if there was no listing fee to list a legendary. With a 2500g legendary, it would cost you 400g. Not to mention there is no identifier as to who is selling it. So there goes that theory out of the window.
The chances of someone solo’ing Lupi and then accidently inviting that player is very, very low, so I’m gonna keep on randomly inviting people to my farm runs. If they don’t want in, they can simply decline.
the problem is, if they do decline, they get kicked, so there your logic fails, how about simply whispering them first if they want in or not? may take 5 more seconds than just sending the invite, but its far more polite.
does the kick happen if the inviter cancels the invitation? because past posters have said that the moment its decline by the player who is invited, they get kicked out
This incident very rarely happens. I’m not going to go through the trouble of having to whisper every single person I want to party up in shelt/pen just because someone else had a rare occurence of being kicked out of a dungeon.
You’re silly for believing that rumor.
By the way, I heard precursor drop rate is increased by 100% and now has a huge drop rate from WvW chests! I guess you don’t have to quit after all!
Gold. It’s not hit by DR.
of course they screwed that when they made them sellable
