I’m not 100% sure about this but,
Back when they introduced agony resistance in November, rings had both offensive and defensive slots. So you could only put defensive infusions in defensive slots, and offensive infusions in offensive slots. But eventually they realized that this was cumbersome and just opened up rings to be outfitted with whatever
The versatile infusion could be put in either one at that time. Of course, versatile is obsolete now since anything can be used.
Well you folks either:
1.) Don’t wear MF gear
2.) Don’t kill nearly enough mobs per hour
I farm shelt/pen a lot, and I get most of my exotics there. I have appx 1400 hours in game and I can confidently guess I’ve had +30 exotics drop for me, one of them being Dusk. Probably 5 of those were from Dragon/puzzle chests. I even started screenshotting all my exotic drops starting two months ago.
Gold will indeed stop dropping in value eventually.
The TP tax as a percentage sees to it. The more things cost, the more money disappears per sale due to the 15% cut the TP takes. Meanwhile, gold entering the game stays about the same. Still get the same coin from completing events, vending trash, completing dungeons and all that. Eventually, the TP tax overtakes the money entering the game and total money in circulation must drop until equilibrium is restored. I don’t think it’s that far off from doing so already.
Precursor prices are also capped by how much it costs to make rares/exotics to throw in the MF. If precursors cost 2000g and t5 mats cost today’s prices, there’d be little reason to not continuously craft rares and make precursors to sell for profit. If t5 mat prices went up accordingly to accomodate precursors costing 2000g (Lets say, to 7s) then we’re talking more expensive transactions as people sell those drops to people wanting to use them for crafting rares, yanking more money out of the economy than now (Over 1s disappearing from the game per t5 mat someone buys off the TP). Not sustainable, people use t5 mats for other things and would buy less of them and farm more, lowering price. Much like how if Tomatoes IRL started costing $5 each, it’d be a lot more attractive for people to start growing tomatoes in the garden instead of buying them at the grocery store.
Not to mention several hundred g leaving the game via the 15% tax every time one precursor sold.
It’s amazing to me that no matter how many times arguments like this are made, players STILL don’t understand. It’s probably less that they don’t understand and more they feel entitled to something they haven’t worked long enough to achieve.
Players rarely look at the game (economy in this case) as a whole….only how it affects them. They want to play a certain way and their way doesn’t allow for them to have all the pretty shinies that other players have. So, rather than changing the way they play, they complain at how unjust the game is. Also…most of the complaints I read are in regards to high end, luxury items that provide no more usefulness to the character wielding / wearing it.
If people were complaining that it was too difficult to outfit their character in Exotics, then maybe there would be something to discuss and debate, but as it is now, I don’t see those complaints.
I think it’s more about the disparity between using the tp vs not using the tp. Basically to gain any “high end” item use of the tp is must.
Of course not. My first legendary was from playing the TP. My second was from luck. My third was through hard grind. But for all three, I did all my hard work in the game to get all my items, whether that accounted for only 20% or 80% of the legendary cost.
Blaming it all on TP manipulation is just the easy way out to explain things.
wait less then 25 people wont trigger swords? so we wont have any idea if a keep is being attacked?
Yes, you’ll have to actually DEFEND! Ha, this is exciting!
as long as we get 1 badge per minute spent waiting to defend an area/point i’m all for it.
wait a sec, this could be a prelude to mounts!
What a terrible idea. Then you’d have everyone afk’ing in keeps.
There are several options for this:
-make it a set, but make it very difficult to get
-make individual pieces, but have moderate difficulty
-make it a set, moderate difficulty, but have different sets to choose from within each armor class
Depends entirely on which fractal you get turkman.
All fractals are easy. Just some take longer than the others.
Of course, I’m not talking about +20 though.
2 in somewhere in the neighborhood of 1,960 hours open world exo drops. Got one around 400 hrs and one around 1,200 hrs. Hopefully I’ll get another in next 140 hrs.
I find it hard that someone who has at least 1900 hours in game would only have got 2 exotics, ever.
And if I wanted to run a fractal group, I could ask for all guardians or all elementals if I wanted to.
What’s your point?
The average group will take anyone. Maybe if they have two many of one class they will close it.
Blame the party, not Arenanet.
You have bad luck and/or you’re not tagging mobs for loot credit
Yea, we all saw those forums full of posts asking for AC to be made harder…. NOT!
I don’t see any mention of AC be tuned harder. Do you have some information we don’t?
It’s sarcasm
It just irritates me that people keep on complaining over and over again. Perhaps a way to end the complaints would be for Anet to stealth nerf all Precursors, and make them Account Bound? But only after they implement the “scavenger hunt” idea.
Players are still going to complain about precursors. No matter what ArenaNet does, it will irritate players and they will complain.
If they made precursors Account Bound after / at the same time as the scavenger hunt, people will complain that Anet took away one of the ways to get a precursor….even though they didn’t like the price of it on the Trading Post anyway.
I’m looking forward to a scavenger hunt for precursors and I hope it’s really time consuming. I hope it spans multiple areas in the game, covering tons of Dynamic Events, dungeons, Champions, etc. I hope that we have to go to far reaches of the world to find hidden passages, underwater relics and/or to the tops of mountains.
I LOVED the Black Moa Chic scavenger hunt in GW1 and think something along those lines, but about 10 times longer, would be amazing.
I hope it’s essentially another piece instanced content, just difficult enough to keep most players from completing it, but where you can have friends help you. That way, people can still sell precursors to hopeless people for ridiculous sums of gold. >_>
Okay, I don’t actually hope that, but it would make me laugh my kitten off. . .
Then people will complain that it’s too hard and that they are closing ‘end game’ from casuals.
How come no one is complaining about the Venom precursor?
The kitten, AC redesign? That’s the one and only dungeon that is decentish and servers it purpose (being newbie friendly). What they should be looking at is the tank and spank bosses in HoTW and CoF p1 and apparently Arah Simin path since people acctually get denied form that due to being necros or rangers >.>
There better be some kitten good fixes to the ‘lesser’ classes in this patch….
Well they did say that they would make it more fun and interesting. If it’s anything like fractals (which they pointed out), then that’s a good thing since it’ll leave a good impression on newbies on dungeon design.
I do hope they don’t change Kholer. That guy is awesome.
Legendary possibilities:
-legendary dyes which provide several effects, like footprints, shinies, reflections, e.t.c.
-legendary minipets which are minipets with several effects
-legendary townclothes – very detailed and worthwhile townsclothes
-legendary gems/sigils, which provide extra boosts
They are aware of the issue.
thanks for collecting the information and posting them, wouldn’t have known those facts.
Colin: There will be other legendaries in the future. Priority is resolving ways to get precursors, including the scavenger hunt 1/2
Does that mean the first part of scavenger hunt will come with this update?
I highly doubt it. Colin already stated a month or two ago that they only started planning the scavenger hunt, not building it. I wouldn’t expect it until after June.
wait less then 25 people wont trigger swords? so we wont have any idea if a keep is being attacked?
Yes isn’t that Awesome, loving this idea (stealth attacks FTW) now you must plant people on keeps and stop zerging
Not necessarily – just keep an eye for white swords. Most of the time (as it is now), it’s NPC’s getting pve’d. Now we need to send a scout and it could be anything from Quaggans to a 20-man guild group.
…then don’t craft it.
EDITED TOP POST
more details on legendaries
Thoughts:
-commander book speculation – perhaps the ability to put targets/objectives on the map
-extra supply passive ability will be HUGE. Curious to see the other options
-AC farm runs may be obsolete. Better do them now and get your tokens
-Open world champions – okay, but how about world bosses? dragons?
-orange swords – will allow faster ninja’ing of towers and keeps. Will need scouts.

from twitter:
Colin: There will be 5 types of guild missions built with influence. Bounty is one of them, available in different difficulties #foodwars
Colin: Modifications to the commander book are coming, with more features. Will remain character bound #foodwars
Colin: Looking at new player experiences and continually making the game accessible for them as it launches in new regions #foodwars
Colin: WvW updates will not introduce new skills. Will bring passive abilities aimed towards group play eg. Extra supply #foodwars
Colin: All the bosses in AC have been completely rebuilt for the February release. Some of the open world champions will be too
Colin: Orange swords in WvW won’t show if there are less than ~25 people after February’s update (unsure exact number) #foodwars
@PoisonedAce Nope, just more interesting and less boring. Think of fractals encounters. ~Tilion [regarding AC]
Colin: Guild missions will be taking place in Southsun Cove #foodwars
Colin: There will be other legendaries in the future. Priority is resolving ways to get precursors, including the scavenger hunt 1/2
Colin: Possibility of new legendary types (ie not weapons) and combinations. #foodwars

20% gold makes a difference when looting all those mobs farming shelt/pen. With a bar, you get about 70c and the utility provides about 14c more.
Looks small, but when you get that amount from every lootable corpse, farming hours upon hours, it adds up.
You . . . probably won’t get a straight answer out of them anymore. The Internet has kind of squeezed that until it stopped being wise.
Far as I can tell, they listen, but they don’t respond to everything and they certainly don’t intend on making all the requests posted around here happen. Possibly because many of them just are completely opposed to each other. And that’s still too much conjecture for me to feel safe saying absolutely.
Not to mention, making a move that is satisfactory with 80% of the population will be met with sheer revolt by 20%. Go look at laurels, for example, and the people complaining about being ‘forced’ to log-in everyday.
Each map is incredibly detailed and has little to no “CTRL-V”. If you put a POI on every single town, village or unique structure, can you imagine how cluttered the map would be?
Let me be clear too. I am seeing this population drop in-game! I’m noticing this myself, not just going off of the forum. The heart of the mists roster had less people, WvW was far less than I remember, Lion’s Arch same thing. This was all me experiencing the amounts in game.
For many servers that I have guested on, even on the low pop ones, I have always ended up on an overflow. That shows there are still as many people in L.A. as before you left.
WvW may seem empty, but they increased the cap limit lately and they have closed transfers, so many people on servers several months ago may have moved up to higher tiers for better play.
Calculate the cost to make it, then add a 200-400g premium.
Don’t overprice it (like +2kg) because it’s very easy to make if you have the gold (compared to legendaries when you have a lot of time-consuming steps)
So how come no one loves to talk about the price of precursors like Storm or Venom?
Oh right, because those precursors are cheap because the market does not want them.
Yet the market loves and wants Dusk, which is justly reflected in it’s price.
All the people complaining about the expensive precursor prices are simply folks who don’t want to pay market price when there are people out there willing to do so. 30 in the last 72 hours, in fact.
I stand corrected – I don’t know what is wrong with the system but I do not hit DR at all when farming in Cursed Shore. I’ve done 8-12 hour grindfests and I have never fallen victim to DR. It’s been like this since November. I’ve also asked a few friends I grind with and they do not notice any DR in terms of the medal rewards.
I’m not trying to troll, be rude or anything. I’m legitimately asking, are they listening?
I started playing again after about a 2-3 month break along. I stayed up the full 72pre-release hours with 7 other friends during a LAN party so don’t get me wrong, I was knowledgeable and beyond excited for the release. I love the mechanics, graphics, systems etc all are great.
But ultimately, I left because of major Spvp balancing issues (which I’ve heard has greatly improved) and Guilds being very underwhelming.
Now, I’ve started playing again but I still don’t see any guild interface updates (not even “Last logged on…”), the population has taken a clear drop and overall, it doesn’t seem like fundamental issues have been addressed. I still see in the “Suggestions” forum threads constantly asking for improvements to guilds, there is almost a 150 reply thread about this that still doesn’t have a single Developer response. I am shocked PvP only has one game type still, I remember fighting for even Capture the Flag with a group and still nothing added past Conquest. It should be noted I’m very happy about 2’s coming in soon. But even a simple Trade system hasn’t been added. I know there’s a trading post and mail but Trading, exchanging items etc are one of my favorite past-times of MMO’s. Even WoW still, you can find hundreds of people trading, exchanging skills (lock picks etc) for money etc as well as an auction house. I feel without personal trading systems, it really takes away.
Granted, I have been away for a while but I left for the same things that aren’t changed now. I keep seeing similar threads being created, similar requests from people but still no answers. And with the population differences now from when I left, I don’t think I am the only one who left because of it.
Guilds are getting improved in the patch later this month. SPvP has been improved quite a bit over the past few months. It’s up to you to log-in and check for yourself.
And not sure why you think population is decreasing – are you believing everything that people say here on the forums?
You do know that event rewards (the exp, karma and coin) are not affected by DR right? What did you expect? More gold for each event completed?
And what do you want? Guaranteed rares in each chest?
You’re wrong. You do get hit with DR with the exp, karma, and coin.
Here is proof.
That shows nothing.
Show me another screenshot of that same event on that same character and level with different reward amounts for the gold medal.
I think the use of squares was a choice to make it easier and less cluttered to differentiate between zones, not to mention make it easier to design the map.
Well what difference would it be if they were different shapes?
The announcement only covers major content additions/changes, such as new features.
I’m sure there will be minor/major tweaks to all parts of the game, including class improvements.
The game has been datamined since release – if there were extra, unknown recipes for rifles, we would have known by now.
-Most time efficient way to make money is to play the TP. But that isn’t really getting the most out of your game.
I suggest getting to lvl 80 first and then start with dungeons, shelt/pen farms, and then when you are bored of that, go play the TP.
I totally agree. All I am lacking now is my precursor, I am farming and playing 8-10 hours a day but the price increase each day is more than I can make each day. And those that already have their legendaries and precursors congratz but Im sure you didnt have the issue of precursors rising each day like this though, beyond the scope of anyone without a huuuge stash of gold. People are buying them just to put up for more now. Dusk was 640g 4 days ago, 700g yesterday and today its 770g.
There’s nothing wrong with prices. Why should I sell Dusk to you for 600g when someone out there is willing to pay me 700g. For all we know, the highest a buyer may go is 1200g for a Dusk.
Prices keep rising because people are willing to pay that much for a precursor. Doesn’t matter about all this market manipulation junk everyone talks about. Yes, it happens, but that doesn’t set the price. When no one bites to pay the supplier’s price it slowly comes down.
If someone is willing to pay 800g for my Dusk, why the heck would I bother to sell it for you folks asking for it cheaper?
soulbound on use? So that means if i make something that is lets say rare. And I dont wear it, and I give it to another character in my account, it will still work?
Of course. You can even sell it on the TP if you wish, as long as you don’t equip it or put a new sigil.
Always, always, always go for gold.
This is a pointless discussion anyway – Colin already stated just before the launch of laurels that precursors would not be purchasable with them.
None. Precursors shouldn’t be able to be bought with laurels.
I think the main reason why people started the thread was because they didn’t like DR.
Well the solution didn’t specify anything to fix DR, so I predict a massive amount of ensuing complaints.
You’re asking too far in the future. Might as well ask if they will release a 3rd expansion while you’re at it…
Precursor prices are absolutely fine. Those who complain about it just want things cheaper and easier.
Blatant misinformation is blatant
For all my legendaries I have used the 10 recipe, it seems to have a higher chance at clovers. But of course, you also have a chance of getting the junk ones.
So you were willing to farm 800g for the other components, but you refuse to farm 600g for the precursor?
Legendaries need to be even rarer.
The game needs gold sinks. Waypoint costs IMO are too cheap at the moment.
