Magic find works. http://sinasdf.imgur.com/
Melandru has always been like this except for the patch that bugged him out.
Actually the supply is fine.
it’s the demand that is driving up the price
Alright, time to pretty much shut down all the speculation in this thread.
I’ve been documenting all my exotic drops since January. I’m primarily a farmer of shelt/pen (before the February nerf) and pretty much full MF gear (minus booster and infusion)
I have had 31 exotic drops since then. Majority of them from event mobs
Don’t believe?
~1000 ectos = ~300g
300g is not a lot of money for one person to have :/It’s more than three times what I’ve managed to earn between eight characters since launch. It is a lot if you aren’t a market fat cat.
That’s because you obviously don’t know the best ways to make money.
Cof farm I hear is a big money maker though I personally don’t use it
Until the february patch I could get 5g/h at shelt/pen farm. That was 20g per weekday and about 50g per weekend. That’s how I can afford all my kitten.
Wauw, so… if I read this graph correctly…
1,400 people sold 1 ecto.
1 person sold more than 2,544 ectos. This game has some SERIOUS problems. I can only assume that people that sell more than -say- 1,000 ectos on one day are somehow tracked and, if they do it consistently, are monitored to see where they come from.
2544 ectos sold is nothing for a speculator.
24 hours, >150,000 ectos, > 9500 unique sellers.
Game. Set. Match.
We love you John!!!
It’s only game, set, match if the final data is provided that substantiates that the control of ectos is not controlled by a small minority, i.e., 2 guys could have traded 140k of those ectos with the remaining 10k being squabbled over by the 9498.
Stats can be used to prove or disprove anything (often the same thing). It’s all in how you present it. Not saying that’s the case here, but just saying.
You really think two guys have the time to spam 140,000 globs on the outpost? At a fixed price?
People are willing to generate conspiracy theories on anything.
But globs? One of the unofficial currencies of the game, that has a lot of value and gets traded thousands of times in an hour?!!
Charismatic, I totally understand your reasoning behind removing the 5% fee, but just thinking from Arenanet’s perspective, it makes things worse removing it
That’s 5% more gold in the economy that can influence inflation. Players right now are already content with this.
@vol now you made me curios xD mind sharing that link with us?
Enjoy:

Some of them are already in-game of course, and there is no guarantee that the unreleased concept legendaries will be made, but if they will be…
The ones that are unreleased look like a mace, a spear/trident, a torch, and some wierd kitten thing for engineers
I firmly believe that they can have inisghts on about almost evverything in the game. Vranted i’ve got no where near the programming skills that are required but i still suppose that they are able to see every outgoing bit of data. Shouldn’t be a problem for them.
Yeah for a modern company, especially with their own economist, they should have as much raw information available in their database
Once you get data into excel, you can pretty much organize the data in anyway you want to present
I work in retail analysis and we have several hundreds of fields that we can organize data on, including:
-day/week/month/year sold
-all metrics including sales, inventory, orders, GP
-store sales, color, sizes, old/new prices
-item descriptions, categories
so I’m pretty sure they have the same reports to run for GW2, which would include:
-items created, destroyed and transferred by character
-selling price of item on outpost
-time of day
-current gold on hand
Because they didn’t actually test or optimize the game at all before it was released, and they didn’t listen to ANYONE during the beta tests (obviously)
Culling, lag in groups, etc. was reported since day 1.
2.) Go find me a game that has no bugs and no crashes
Because it would create more problems through bugs and troubleshooting than what is worth the effort.
Just think about how complicated it would be to inplement a change that does not affect your personal story.
And it’s all over a novelty feature.
I’d rather have those devs work on new game features that actually have a meaningful impact on the game.
1.) Crashes happen to a minority. It’s most likely your computer
2.) Go find me a game that has no bugs and no crashes
3.) Quite funny that you are comparing a 9-year old game with dated graphics with a modern MMO with advanced graphics
I’ll have to get eotn first though ;_;
when will it be on sale >_>
I wonder if it’s against the TOS for me to offer GW2 gold to offer someone to help me achieve GW1 HOM stuff?
The stuff to get points, is that soulbound? Or can you sell some stuff to me that I’ll pay in GW2 gold?
Please don’t ban me again ;_;
It can all be obtained with money, nothing is really soul bound, unless you count titles (which can be obtained by paying people to run you through missions etc).
You mean it can all be obtained by spending gold in GW1?
Or that I could spend my GW2 gold to pay someone to do all the stuff in GW1, and they’ll just transfer whatever items and help me run quests with my GW1 character?
I wonder what’s a good amount to get full HOM. 200g in GW2? ;|

OP, I hope you realize just how time consuming a legendary can get if you are not dedicated. Don’t expect to get it in a month.
As of today, the Quip will cost you 902G, which is a low-mid priced legendary
Going for third but i hate to make world completion with another toon just for 2 more gift of discovery.
I agree, it sucks. I had to do it and it was just brutal, but I made it a mission to do at least 50% of a zone per day.
Unfortunately it looks like I’m going to have to do 100% completion on a 3rd character if I want more legendaries. Just looking over some of the concept art by one of the former artists, there are some REALLY nice looking legendaries that could come into play in the near future..
Small sample size.
I agree – having unlimited history listings, plus all the items on the outpost that stay on the outpost, either through out-of-date prices or players who quit just seems to bog the whole system.
15% is fine.
What’s worse
a.) having your 10g in value only reutrn 8.5g when sold?
or
b.) having your 10g have less purchasing power
It’s obvious
If you’re going to camp a zone for 2 hours just so you can get 1-4 rares, then you need to reanalyze and think if its efficient
MF gear truly works, I’ve noticed a lot more rares/exotics (until you hit DR)
You need to be using it on farming though, not dungeons
I miss sit-jumping
Not sure how fast this is, but:
-level alts to 20 through the cheapest crafting professions. Might cost less than 10g each
-use those alts to collect all the skillpoints in the world that you can easily get. Don’t forget the ones in WvW
Grats on the Sunrise. Back in December I decided to go after it, and was fully prepared to grind out the next 2 months.
Fortunately, Dusk dropped shortly after dedicated myself to the quest, and I was able to get it in a week after that!
Don’t even bother buying a legendary straight off. The mark-up is not worth it.
I grinded out all my three legendaries and slowly working on my 4th.
I would very much prefer a system where you list your item and then if it doesn’t sell in x days, it is returned to your pick-up tab.
You could probably even vary the fees according to posting length.
5% fee on 1-day postings
10% fee on 3-day postings
15% fee on 7-day postings
This does nothing for Arenanet but open them for criticism. People would see the top 50 players would be suspicious gold buyers/bots, and then people here would complain that they’re not doing a good enough job combating it.
When in reality, you can’t just ban someone for having a lot of gold, or have a suspicious name.
I always laugh when reports from forbes or bloomberg list the wealthiest individuals, and then somehow portray them as bad or greedy people.
Well, what did you expect? You gambled and lost. Should have expected you had a minute chance of getting a precursor. And now you kitten yourself because you foolishly spent all your gold gambling when you should always leave enough gold on hand to prevent this ‘depressive’ state.
Even if you lose it, I just don’t see why infusing it is worth it. The stats don’t increase, and higher lvl fractals are just hard to come by and are just not worth the effort.
It’s called gambling for a reason.
You lost, move on.
So I take it those people in chat who link 20+ commendations are just exploiting or lying?
They are getting their commendations from multiple guilds.
I thought commendations are linked to character/account, not guild?
I have 8 characters and about 14 level 400 crafts (did some a few times). But thing is, I have absolutely no use for sub-T6 materials. T5 materials aren’t so bad, you can always promote them, but its usually better to sell them. But it seems this game has no use for mats below this after a short period of time. Are these mats going to become completely useless and unsellable in the future?
t5 will never be useless.
T5 is used to make lvl 80 rares, which can be salvaged or put in the forge.
It’s a first world problem, so I dont think it’s worth the time and resources to program something like this.
GW1 does not have as complicated an economy as GW2 – afterall, GW1 is not a traditional MMO. These fees are put in the game as a gold sink to combat inflation.
As for not giving you back your listing fee – it’s meant as a deterrent for people to use the outpost as a free bank. If there was no listing fee, I would list every single item that is currently in my bank for 999g. Obviously no one will buy it, and that’s the point – I would use it as storage.
If everyone did that it would lag the trading server.
It also encourages you to properly price your items. Price it too high and you risk losing your fee.
The items aren’t in an invisible bag/pack or a safe box are they? If so they won’t appear on any sell screen.
This is most likely the case.
Also, when you have mats in you bank collectibles, when you right-click them you cannot sell them, but only buy.
Aside from the outpost being down for a month, the launch was extremely smooth. Of course there were bugs, all games have them, but relatively speaking it was a great release for an MMO.
This is assuming you are buying BL kits and not getting them from in-game rewards or in-game keys.
But yes, I do find BL kits useless unless you want a sigil that sells for more on the outpost than the item itself.
The JP we have nowadays just isn’t enough now that i’ve experienced the mad king JP. That was one of the best jumping puzzle experiences I had in awhile and now everything else just seems plain kitten easy :o.
Not to mention the theme and sadistic style of the puzzle was awesome, the christmas one, although was fun, just didn’t feel dark enough and was ultimately way too easy.
I hope anet has some big plans for future JP like this and I really hope that when the next halloween comes, it won’t just be a rehash of the old event stuff!
The best JP? Oh man I can remember all the complaints of it being hard and the in-game harrassment of all those poor Charr and Norn.
If it was the best JP to rile people up, it definitely deserves that title.
Dear Anet Staff
I bought this game because you promise a lot of innovative and intresting things like:
- No Grinding: but now there are 60 hours to get 80, 20 hours for exotic gear, 30 runs in fractal for ascended rings. I don’t know what do you mean with grind but 120 hours to get a full equipped character for me is quite long.
So you want the best gear in the game with zero efforts? 0 hours played?
Just install, log on and BOOM, all your characters are lvl 80 and in full exotics with a legendary of your choice?
-Elementals only pop when their respective temple is captured
-You’re an AUS player transfering to a US server, so more than likely you are playing when all the NA players are sleeping
-Anchorage WP is almost always contested on all servers due to bugged damage of some mobs that keeps failing the pre-event
Queensdale was is a very popular map before they fixed Shadow Behemoth. Lots of new accounts and many older players helping new players (and trying to recruit them)
As Charismatic Harm points out, such a system could work based on reputation, but there’s always the risk that such a reputation was simply gained for the purpose of making “the big haul” on a high value item. A free dusk would certainly be compelling enough for someone to put the effort into building the reputation required. With how slowly and unevenly information transfers, it’s plausible they could get away with it multiple times before people believed the people who were scammed.
A free dusk is worthless when you get banned for scamming.
Yup it’s bugged. When it says that, it’s at the part where the NPC should be escorted to the temple. But he doesn’t spawn so it’s bugged.
I fully understand that tons of people are using the TP,
That’s pretty much it. Why do you assume that it’s one person doing it? More likely it’s several power traders, which is all they do. They don’t play the game, they just operate the outpost to maximum efficiency, which involves constantly checking buy orders.
If you’re making profit out of it, there’s a good chance there are other people doing the same thing at the same time.
Pretty much Occam’s razor.
-deleted for now, math wrong
It’s not an exploit, just like how trading game items through mail is not considered an exploit.
Will Arenanet compensate you if things go bad? Of course not. that’s the risk.
Best way to combat this is to get a well-known player on a reputable guild to act as a middleman. Screenshot the agreement, of course.
Why do you automatically assume that there are ‘bots’ on the outpost.
I did not automatically assume. I’ve done some testing and here are my reasons:
First, bots do exist. A search on Google will bring it up. Also, I’ve seen some people admit to it. There were a couple reddit comments about how people used bots on the TP. They ended up getting banned because of the Snowflake debacle, and decided to share all that they were doing.
Second, the behavior I am seeing. I’ve been testing for a bit over an hour now, and I am noticing definite patterns. Patterns that show that: it is most likely one buyer, it is most likely automated, and that it is something that no one simply using just the TP can compete with.
Here is the profile of the bot:
The bot will bid on any rare weapon where the highest order price is less than 3 silver and the sell price is over double. The bot will place an order in for one copper over highest bidder with the quantity of 20. Every 10-11 minutes the bot scans all of its listing (and there are a lot of them, look at almost any weapon that matches the criteria).
When the bot finds that it has been outbid, it will cancel its previous bid order and replace it with a new bid that is one copper higher that whatever outbid it.
I’ve tested this by placing plenty of buy orders, and updating them at random. Always, within 12 minutes, all my buy orders have been outbid by an order that is one copper more, and looking for the quantity of 20. Considering the amount of buy orders that this person has, I really doubt he is manually checking all the items to ensure his is still the top.
I hope that is enough proof for everyone.
the snowflake ban had nothing to do with exploiting or botting the outpost. the snowflake ban was based on creating an unlimited supply of ectoplasm.
You claim that you are being outbid by just 1c every 10 minutes. 10 minutes is a LONG time when you have a complicated economy like this one, with many players conducting thousands of trasactions per minute.
Maybe if you were in the market for some low-demand item, like Mithril Greatsword Hilts, and you saw your buy orders outbid by 1C every minute after you make a post.
But 10 minutes? that’s more than enough time for several players in your market to conduct transactions.
If I want my item desperately I will outbid you by however much I think is the right price for Dusk.
If the current buy order is 500g and I think it’s not worth that but 530g, and I want the item now, then I will put it up at 515g and then so on. I don’t have time to constantly check buy orders and quible around. I’m going to outbid you to the point that you just stop updating your bids.
