ANet adds a tier so that people can attain stats closer to that of a legendary.

THEREFORE; GW2 is a gear grind/gear treadmill/WoW clone.

Upgrade your gear instead of getting new gear?

In GW1, in order to protect yourself against a skill called Spectral Agony (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Spectral_Agony) you needed to infuse yourself. The infusion worked on whatever gear you were currently wearing at the time.

My question is this:

Would you prefer a method to add an infusion slot to your current gear in order to delve deeper into the dungeon and NO ascended gear?

Would you prefer a method to add an infusion slot to your current gear in order to delve deeper into the dungeon IN ADDITION TO ascended gear?

Do you just want the ascended gear as is?

Or do you have another suggestion?

Personally, I’m going to wait and see. ANet has my trust until they prove otherwise.

Understanding "Gear Progression"

“It all gets back to our basic design philosophy. Our games aren’t about preparing to have fun, or about grinding for a future fun reward. Our games are designed to be fun from moment to moment.” -Mike O’Brien, Guild Wars 2 Design Manifesto; April 5th, 2010

What I get from the Ascended/Agony mechanic description: You can’t play against agony-inflicting mobs without getting the gear first.

“So much of traditional MMO combat is rote and repetitive. You execute the same strategy over and over again, just augmented over time with better and better gear. After a while it starts to feel like you’re playing a spreadsheet. Combat needs to be about making creative choices, and it needs to feel immediate, active, and visceral.”

If you don’t have the requisite gear, no creativity is going to save you. As Lindsey Murdock wrote in the recent statement: “The only way to mitigate Agony damage is by building up resistance through Infusions, a new type of upgrade component that can be acquired in the Mystic Forge.”

GW1 had spectral agony…it required armor infusion to mitigate.

I’m very excited and gonna pwn a lot of people in WvWvW w/ my new Ascended gears to whoever doesn’t want to do the new dungeon & QQers!

<3 Anet!

This is my other concern, this can create pvp imbalance.

I actully hope it does create an imbalance, this will force them to make a change to remove the imbalance – they can’t just say “well if you want an even playing field in WvWvW, go do dungeons”.

It will create imbalance for sure!
Think about a mirror match (same class, same build) with 2 equally skilled players! Better gear = WIN

WvW was never intended to be balanced…

People said that they wanted something to go for between legendary and exotics, and you have it.

People don’t require that you have a legendary to participate and I imagine all content outside of this dungeon will not require ascended gear.

In addition, they did NOT change the highest tiered gear in the game. The top stats still belong to legendary gear.

Legendary items were the highest tier prior to this patch.

Legendary items will still be the highest tier after this patch.

In their notes, they state that legendary items will be adjusted so that they are always the best-in-slot gear.

…So yea, they haven’t added a new tier above legendary.

You guys should PROBABLY see how it’s implemented before declaring that the sky is falling.

In addition, what if this new tier was the max armor for the rest of GW2’s lifespan? Please stop extrapolating that because we get new content 3 months from launch that there is now a gear treadmill.

Wait and look at implementation…then discuss. This premature rage bullkitten is stupid now.

Can you give a specific example?

Exchanging Dungeon Tokens for Karma

in Suggestions

Posted by: Vorch.2985

Vorch.2985

Ronah, I’d like to see tokens be able to be converted to karma, but NOT the other way around (Karma>tokens)

The sole reason being that dungeon armor is supposed to represent the effeciency, ability, and patience of a player who has completed a dungeon over and over again. To be able to farm karma from dailies/montlies and achieve Arah/SE/CoE gear rather than actually going playing the dungeon would be detrimental, imo.

So, imo, I’d like Tokens converted to Karma, but NOT Karma converted to Tokens.

Exchanging Dungeon Tokens for Karma

in Suggestions

Posted by: Vorch.2985

Vorch.2985

There are 8 dungeons in this game. Chances are, most players don’t want EVERY dungeon armor or weapon set in the game. So how do you provide an incentive for people to group up with people doing dungeons they would not normally partake in?

Some have suggested being able to exchange dungeon tokens from one dungeon for tokens from another. I don’t agree with this because it wouldn’t make people more apt to do other dungeons; they would instead choose to do 3-4 paths of all available dungeons and farm those. It also would make it so that armor from a particular dungeon would not mean that you have actually completed that dungeon at all.
———————————

I propose that dungeon tokens be exchangeable for karma. From 10-30 karma per token may be enough to entice people to participate in dungeons that they may not achieve armor in. Since karma is almost exclusively earned through effort (much like tokens), being able to exchange tokens for karma would not interfere with the intent of the currency.

Of course, the BEST way of getting more people to do more dungeons is to introduce more enjoyable mechanics and fix bugs within them. However, for those wanting more rewards, I think this is a very valid option.

Your 3 favorite and least favorite dungeon paths + Suggestions

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vorch.2985

Vorch.2985

Favorite (no particular order)

1. Honor of the Waves (Butcher): Well done aggro mechanics in this path. Straight forward run. You need to focus fire or be over run by minions. SUGGESTION: Lower Butcher HP…half the dungeon fight is taking him down

2. Crucible of Eternity (Teleporter): Interesting boss mechanics. I like how you need to remove the armor from the sub-boss in order to do any damage. Also, the Alpha is MUCH tamer here. SUGGESTION: See CoE below

3. Twilight Arbor (Forward Up Path): I feel like this dungeon has a great difficulty curve and is an excellent place for people to learn the importance of dodging, AoE, and spacial awareness. SUGGESTION- Fix the bug on the spider sub-boss that causes the game to crash occasionally

Least Favorite

1. Crucible of Extinction (Front Door): Really? Really. Between the Alpha’s insane moveset that seems to require 4 dodges and exceedingly long sub-boss fight with a destroyer, I feel that this one needs some serious tweaking. SUGGESTION: Lower Alpha health (For all paths), add more cues for Alpha’s attacks ESPECIALLY his purple crystal.

2. Sorrow’s Embrace (Path 1): I have never made it past the first boss. I don’t think anyone even knows what to do. The asuran mobs just keep coming and coming and coming. Can’t even find a decent guide. SUGGESTION: Clarify what the heck we need to do.

3. Ascalonian Catacombs (Path 2; Detha’s Path): Too easy…WAY too easy. I’m not asking for a buff of enemy health, but how about adding a chest for the jumping puzzle at the end? I do like the tank-and-trap portion though.

Suggestion for next year: Two Tiers of weapons/armor

in Halloween Event

Vorch.2985

I’ve been seeing lots of complaints about not receiving halloween armor or weapons. Personally, i think people should be happy with devil horns, a book, 2 holiday themed pvp modes, a jumping puzzle, and a bunch of events. However, some would rather have a weapon skin or armor skin.

So, for next year, here is what I suggest: extrapolate on the book back-brace idea. Have a low tier version of 4-5 weapons that is Halloween themed that everyone can get or is relatively simple to achieve. Then, have an RNG/BLC based second tier that differs in looks and effect. That way, you will have fewer complainers during holidays.

Again, personally, I have no problem, but I’m not the entire community.

Urgently Introduce a LFG Dungeon Tool

in Suggestions

Vorch.2985

I totally agree with this idea. But I would go so far as to suggest that you also do away with Story Mode. The longer the game is active the lower your chance of finding a group who want to do a prerequisite dungeon mode.

No way, story mode is there for people to learn the story of the dungeon, since this game is in fact an MMORPG, notice the ‘RPG’ part. I want story modes to be kept. and story modes are ‘easier’ versions of the dungeon with different stories for those who wish to do them. So taking story mode away would be taking away an entire difficulty away from the dungeons, preventing casual players from enjoying dungeons and only allowing hardcore gamers to enjoy the content. NO, let all content be enjoyable to all players.

As for the LFG dungeon tool, i disagree with it as well. It should be a very last resort, because otherwise we’ll end up with everyone just staying in a city doing nothing and waiting for groups to do dungeons while complaining about nothing to do. so no, i disagree with the lfg dungeon as well. improve current methods for finding groups for dungeons, but don’t convert it into a lfg dungeon tool.

the system as it is right now requires that people stay in LA and do thing, waiting for groups to do dungeons.

With a server wide LFG system, we can actually play the game while we are waiting for our group to forum up.

Alternate way to level alts

Level up to 35 using story and world completion.

Once 35, level using explorable dungeons and WvW. This will allow you to level (80% of a level per dungeon run approx), gain money, and earn badges. If you get bored, you can always explore or use the money earned to craft (10 levels per expertise from 1-400)

The idea of Guild Wars 2 Hard Mode

Just take downscaling a step further with increased damage taken from enemies + decreased DPS and WHAM! You have hardmode.

Would also like HM dungeons with 50% increase in tokens

Soulbound... why?

Outside of harvesting tools, I really don’t have a problem with soulbound items. And as money can be transferred from character to character, it’s not a big deal.

I respect your opinion, but this is a mountain the size of a mole hill.

Knock Back vs Players vs Monsters

I don’t want this. Sorry.

It would turn boss battles that may have been challenging or at least fun at one point into a knockback contest. OR Anet would simply add stability to all bosses and/or make them immune to knockback.

In addition, this could be abused ridiculously. Pull 4 veterans to a cliff, dodge roll behind them, use fear, they fall and die, collect reward.

The invisible walls and boss buffs that would be added…nty

Have they ever said why they did away with mana?

It’s fine the way it is. Energy management is essentially the caster equivalent of initiative management for thieves. If you miss it, play a thief.

I respect your opinion, but I simply disagree.

You can set a key to toggle the UI on and off. That would remove the pesky chat box and anything else that gets in the way of your screen shot.

"Perfect" patch notes - a comprehensive list

Things I don’t agree with:

1. Loot: the craziness that this would cause in low level zones would be insane. Perhaps a CHANCE at higher level mats with a HardMode toggle on.

2. Travel: I agree that it should be reworked, but I don’t agree with your implementation. I think that free travel to LA and the 5 starter cities would alleviate alot of the costs.

3. Most of the profession changes you listed…Vengeance 3 sec cast? A 3 second interrupt-able cast during downed state may as well kill you. Alot of the others would have dire consequences as well. Mobs should DEFINITELY target downed players…if they didn’t, people would just keep getting up in many cases.

Things I RESOUNDINGLY agree with

1. LFG system: GW2 has an LFG system. More than half of the community has no kitten idea that it exists. The other half refuses to use it because it is useless. Needs to be fixed.

2. Dungeons: would like increased rewards at the end that are exclusive to particular dungeons. Also would like dungeon paths that are not run as frequently could get increase tokens at the end (20-50%)

3. DEs: Experience and gold should scale with level…karma shouldn’t. That’s just my opinion

A LFG system with tabs for Dungeons, Exploring, etc. would be nice.

Hell, anything that is server wide and allows us to say what we are looking for and find people looking for the same would work.
