“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
I REALLY can’t see them going through with this…it just seems…uncalled for?
I just can’t see this nerf being good in any way. They did mention increasing AoE RESISTANCE to certain enemies, which I can sorta understand. I could also understand having enemy AI tell them to get out of the AoE.
Straight up lowering AoE damage? I don’t think they’ll go that route.
Thanks Dulfy.
I hope we have alot more of these in the future. Still holding out for Guild Hall/Player housing info.
Are there plans to implement user generated content? If so, can you elaborate?
Are there any plans to make guesting cross region? What are the technical limitations?
Many people have asked for certain purely aesthetic cash shop items along the lines of emotes, dances, instruments, and armor skins. Are there any aesthetic additions to the cash shop for the future that you would like share?
I agree, pull the feature and rework it or at least put the guesting part in but keep the free transfers so people can still meet up in the mean time while it’s being sorted.
Many, many times we were told X is impossible in GW1. Hairdressers, Apperance changes, account restorations, retrospective legendary survivor titles etc.
All of these were solved with some innovation and inventiveness from Areanet.
Please step up to the plate and try again and implement guesting.. when it’s ready
Why would the pull the feature? I’d rather they put it in as is and then work on making it cross region.
Personally, I don’t understand why we can’t just have districts for everything outside of WvW.
If you openly state that you are wearing MF gear in a puggable dungeon and can get through it just fine, then I don’t have a problem.
If you hide it and the group is struggling, then I take issue.
I think we just need the districting from GW1 for everything outside of WvW. Make sure that all the gathering nodes are the same and can’t be gathered across districts.
There are plenty of things to spend karma on in the game.
I think they just need a greater variety of skins, regardless of rarity.
Good that it’s in. I’d like to see cross region functionality tho. I expect it will be worked on if there is enough outcry.
Lot of negativity here, let’s see how the first half of the year goes first. Then see if there are reasons to complain…
For real…rather than seeing cautious optimism or mild pessimism, a lot of posts are down right negative with out any constructivism.
I’m not sure how to fix it, but here are a few ideas:
1. Every player gets their own stack
2. Add condition critical hits under the crit stat
3. Increase the raw damage (may make certain enemies tougher as a result due to their dmg being buffed…i.e. CM bandits with bleeding)
“It’s extremely important that we stay true to our philosophy that you should be able to play Guild Wars 2 the way you want to play the game in order to reach the most powerful rewards.”
This one sentence gives me hope for my future with this game.
At least they realize that they’ve made mistakes. I am always hopeful for the future of the game. Uncertain, but hopeful.
GW2 has an excellent foundation…the devs slipped up on Nov. 15th REALLY bad. At least they seem to have a plan to make up for it.
“Our reward systems need to be exciting, and include things you want to earn over time, but we don’t want to force our players on endless gear treadmills for new tiers of gear we add every 6 months. You won’t see another tier between ascended and legendary in 2013 for example. "
Why Colin, WHY?! You could have shut the door on this topic, but instead left plenty of wiggle room that is going to fuel countless forum debates.
Is 2013 the year of the Ascended Rollout, followed by a press release that you are excited to announce the addition of Transcended Gear for 2014? Post-release developer comments have led me to believe this is the case, along with planned level cap increases.
I understand where they are coming from.
They’ve been held to things they said in 2008 regarding GW2. If I were them, I would always leave room for changes so that they don’t receive the plethora of topics calling them liars.
Also, they stated even during development that there would be level cap increases with expansions.
I stopped playing after Fractals of the Mists came out and I discovered that, not only is there no LFG system, but players aren’t allowed to talk to each other (outside Guilds) to arrange to play with each other.
Now I’m just checking periodically to see if there’s a LFG system so I can play. Guess I shouldn’t bother for another few months…

I really like what he had to say, but one thing makes me a little concerned:
There was not a word in the blog post, at least, about new armor sets. I feel like the current offering is woefully lacking, especially for medium and heavy armor. There are simply too few sets that look too much alike, which is unfortunate when so much of the game revolves around cosmetic rewards.
On top of that, there are still many many NPC-only sets, even though it was said that we would be able to earn and wear any armor we saw NPCs wearing.
Any thoughts?
I’m not exactly sure what is in those gear chests, but I am HOPING that it’s armor or even just skins for class specific armor. It may just be backpieces and jewelery though.
Long story short, too soon to tell.
Has both the blog and video. It’s stickied to the top of forums.
Stickied on forums. Doesn’t give an exact date though.
Why can’t I hold all of this hype? I’m quite excited to see how ArenaNet handles the next three months.
Now it’s time to temper my hype with a healthy dose of caution and adjusted expectations:
Will we see an effective implementation of rewards for the open world that aren’t loot drops? Will this actually motivate players of all levels to visit non-80 areas?
Will events start cascading over zones in a more meaningful way than statue auras?
Anyone else have some hype-tempering discussion that is on the side of cautiously optimistic?
From what I can see from the blog post, the least that can be added is:
If ONLY these things are added, that will help breathe life into the PvE world.
I specifically didn’t even mention WvW and PvP to help stay realistic.
So yes, I’d say it’s safe to be cautiously optimistic. After we see what’s in the first 2 or 3 patches, then we can get more excited.
I feel like an idiot. I just tried to scroll the screenshot down to see what else we can get -.-
Also, I’m slightly intrigued by how they’ve done gear by Profession, as opposed to light / medium / heavy. Does that mean we’re going to get gear that’s Aesthetically tailored to each one?
That’s what I’m assuming. However, it may be jewelery or a chance at certain equipment, so I’m holding off until we hear more.

This post makes me cautiously optimistic about the future of GW2. Seems like there’s some lovely PvE, WvW, and PvP changes incoming.
The possible open world token system and and CHANGING daily achievements have me the most interested.

FIrstly, when going for a legendary, MAKE CLOVERS FIRST. That way, you get some of the T6 mats that you will need for gift of might and gift of magic. It actually is quite useful.
Secondly, NEVER go for the 10 shot option…always make single clovers.
Finally, always plan to use twice as many mats when dealing with RNG mechanics. The data says 1/3-1/5th? Plan on 1/6th-1/10th.
There are a bunch of responses form ANet on that thread.
Firstly, are you using wired or wireless? If using wireless, are you using a network card or USB external wireless card? Have you tried using an ethernet cord?
The first few pages have responses from ANet as well as their solutions.
Also, try deleting the Local.dat file and redownloading GW2 and playing with the default specs.
However, from what I am seeing, it seems like a typical packet drop issue on your end
(edited by Vorch.2985)
The issue isn’t the Ascended tier. The underlying issue is that there is no guarantee that there will not be another tier after it. That would have to be an option that is on the table.
Secondly, they have essentially made it so that the ONLY way to attain the best tier gear is from a portal in lion’s arch…slowly causing people to either migrate to LA or leave (albeit, temporarily if they correct themselves). They admitted to needing more sources for ascended gear…open world PvE, crafting, WvW, and dungeons all need methods of attaining it in order to get people out there again.
Lastly, they need an alternate method of dampening agony and other future similar mechanics. The most obvious one would be through Title Tiers much like GW1…with every new title tier reached, more resistance could be added to the player. This adds the needed vertical progression AND has NO EFFECT ON THE REST OF THE GAME. It REALLY upsets me…because the solution was already in GW1.
Yes, GW1 had vertical progression…but it wasn’t based on gear. It was based on titles. It should NEVER be based on gear.
Using fractals to tell the story of GW1 would be pretty cool.
As far as missions go, I’d like to relive
5. Consulate Docks (shows the fall of Kormir)
4. Tracking the Nornbear (gives insight to the origins of the Son’s of Svanir)
3. The Dragon’s Lair (meeting Glint)
2. Aurora Glade (could be copied and pasted and would work just fine)
1. Raisu Palace (death of Togo at the hands of Shiro
I’d really like to take part in a battle during the actual Guild War events
I’d like to see more weapon skins.
Specifically, the some of the more popular ones from GW1:
1. Voltaic Spear
2. Bone-Dragon Staff
3. Storm bow
4. Draconic Scythe (if scythes are added)
5. Shiro’s Daggers (may be confused with dual swords in GW2, tho)
6. Icy Dragon Sword
7. Oppressor Weapons
8. Tormented Weapons
9. Zodiac Staff and weapons
10. Draconic Aegis (by FAR my favorite shield, in any game, period)Just part of what is maddening sometimes with GW2…so much stuff can be copied and upscaled from GW1.
As far as NEW weapons go, I’d like to see scythes, poles, and a cestus. 2h Axe would be nice as well.
Voltaic spear and icy dragon are already in the game >>
Whoa, just saw them on wiki…
…I may have to get them now…thanks a lot.
Logitech G600…otherwise I wouldn’t be able to play.
Let me clarify:
Going through the story once gives such a small amount of information about the world, that it all seems very muddled. You are basically given less than 1/5 of RELEVANT information.
After going through it on multiple characters, choosing different races, orders, and paths, I finally got most of the important plot points from the story (probably still missing about 1/5-1/6 of important information).
That’s an glaring issue, especially if you don’t make alternate characters. People with one character will never be able to understand the vast majority of the story, which makes the whole thing VERY disjointed.
I think being able to play through other story missions, even if it doesn’t effect YOUR story, would go a long way to rectifying the issue. Parallel story portions could be unlocked every 10 levels (would also help with experience points).
So yes, I did enjoy the story. However, I had to REALLY go out of the way to get most of the chapters. Otherwise, it feels extremely unorganized with a bunch of plot holes.
That’s kind of messed up, but it’s just a few weapons, so it’s not a big deal.
I agree…those were ripped.
Not against the ToS. Unfortunately, being a jerk is not always a bannable offense.
When I first got through the GW2 story, I tried to imagine going through the game without having read any of the books and not having played GW1.
Here’s what I have concluded after 8 level 80s….the story is fragmented. Imagine taking your favorite book, keeping the ending, but removing 4/5ths of the chapters. After playing a ridiculous amount (which I truthfully don’t expect many people to do), I probably have the majority of the story figured out. However, even I am missing some portions. GW1 had branching story as well, but allowed every character to experience pretty much everything except certain tutorials and pre-searing.
Personally, I think that even a person who doesn’t like making alts should be able to at least experience 75-80% of the story. Perhaps certain these could be unlocked after the last mission?
Do you think we should be able to repeat our own story? How about important aspects from other storylines?
gw2lfg for dungeons…

I just don’t understand what’s stopping the creation of player or guild created content. If the devs give some tools to players, you’d be surprised at what the players can make.
The real question is what happens to those who used legendary weapons as skins for their exotics for stats they liked.
That’s gonna be one hell of a storm.
“Is there any class I could play that doesn’t feel like repetitive or dull combat, that can support?”
d/d ele
+1
Definitely one of the more mobile choices. All most OP, imo.
I like playing on my elementalist, warrior, and guardian.
I feel your pain, though. I don’t really feel like it’s teh classes that have been balanced poorly in PvE. I feel like the enemies really don’t require you to do more than dodge 1 or 2 moves and keep pouring damage.
As far as support, a shout based guardian or shout warrior are my personal favorites. You really won’t see how cool it is until you get soldier runes though. And I agree with Meer…you won’t really even start seeing the support ability until 60; imo, level 80 is where you’ll have the most options with traits and runes.
(edited by Vorch.2985)
The PvP. It had options that were attractive to people who wanted pick up games and those who wanted a very organized approach.
PvP options, GvG, and Guild halls are the three most maddening things that are missing from GW2 for me. I know and appreciate that this game is not GW1. However, these things could have EASILY been adapted to GW2.
I think it’s because of both swords really being crafting ingredients for Eternity.
However, it doesn’t make sense to me seeing that they take the same amount of effort. Hopefully, it will be fixed.
It can be that way if you play the game as a checklist. Granted, there is a title associated with playing the game as a checklist.
Hopefully jan-mar will begin to fix it, but no promises. I want to see their vision moving forward.
But you are right, it can be a bit that way. Imagine if skyrim actually showed you a list of all the quests in the game. That’s how GW2 feels. There’s nothing to really discover because I already know where everything is. There are exciting lore tid bits sprinkled throughout, but the flashing PoIs, Hearts, and other points take away from it.
You’re not interested in certain responses, but are still looking for an answer?
Seems you’ve already made up your mind.
also, rng is rng. I don’t deal with it. Mystic clovers aren’t that bad (always do single attemps), but precursors…nah.
OP, out of curiosity, you would not happen to be a Vindictus player, would you?
Personally, I don’t know why there isn’t a bunch of underwear and skimpier armor skins in the cash shop. That’s the kind of thing that’s purely aesthetic and people spend ridiculous amounts of money on. It’s also VERY cheap to produce.
well, i think your question was actually 2 questions and i only really answered 1 of them(the easier of the 2). in reality, imagine the impact on the global market if the drop rate of rares was that high. i know you were throwing numbers out, but realistically, a 1% drop rate for rares and .2% for exotics seems to be perfectly viable imo.
i take it that your question about rares only applies to normally dropped rares and the other question was about unique skins and they are not related.although i do see a problem with champs dropping trash or white items…i wish they were eliminated from the loot table. champs should be dropping blues and higher only.
How would you feel about regional skins that dropped at the rates i mentioned at a masterwork level, and exotic versions that dropped at 1-1.5% that had an additional effect on them?
Or should we go to a regional token system, which i think I could be ok with. Perhaps a hybrid version with rares available for tokens and exotics from drops?
Again, just trying to get as many ideas as possible until we get something good.
That token system sounds interesting. And sorry about the rates, I’m just spitballing here to see what sticks and what you guys think.
I really like the token system as well, but I would also like rare drops.
I wanted to make an organized thread so that we can all see exactly what members of the community are looking for in terms of ENEMY DROPS ONLY (not crafting).
Please organize your responses by what you want to drop, the source you want it from, and what you think a fair rate is.
For example…
What I want to drop: Uniquely skinned weapons, headgear, and backpieces from dungeons and from each region (not each map)
Source: Veterans and Champions
Rate: Veterans- 2-3% chance for rare; Champions 8-15% for rare, 5-6% for exotics
There aren’t any ascended weps.
This is a huge reason of why the majority of players who left – left. But don’t bother trying to explain, since most of people in these forums are holier than thou and if they don’t feel like you do, you must be either wrong or just plain stupid, because they are playing the game the right way and simply didn’t encounter this in all of their 2000h of gameplay time.
This is so true. Here and Tera are the 2 mmo’s out of all the ones I played that have a community like that. Anyone who says anything negative about their game will jump on them so fast. Yes there are other communities that aren’t super, but never came across one as bad as here and Tera.
I don’t think ANY community is as bad as that one, save LoL, but they are notorious.
As to the OP, I feel that this game NEEDS more weapon skins that drop exclusively from certain champions in dungeons and in the open world. I would love to see a UNIQUE rare weapon, backpiece, head gear, and/or rebreather in EVERY area in the game. Hell, have a 2-4% chance that it drops from a veteran and a 6-10% chance that it drops from a champ, with a 2-4% chance for an exotic variant.
This is how they kept people doing otherwise ridiculous farms in GW1 (Voltaic spear and BDS)…I truly have no idea why these are not in GW2.
I agree that having two rings and a backpiece really won’t make that much of a difference. However, having 16/16 equipment pieces being ascended vs being 16/16 exotic will.
I really want to see what they do with the new crafting recipies and stuff first, though. I’m pretty confused as to the direction they are trying to go in (was supposed to be an optional grind for aesthetics), but I suppose I can wait until the jan-march updates are done to see what they have in mind…
I prefer my guardian to my monk from GW1. I hated playing whack-a-mole with HP bars. Smiting was fun, though (echo RoJ, lol)
I just don’t understand why legendary weapons are not account bound when created. They should not be able to be bought. Period.
It really doesn’t make sense, especially with currencies like dungeon tokens and karma already in place SPECIFICALLY designed so that there are items in game that can only be achieved through effort.
That being said, I don’t really have a desire to get a legendary. I have 77 clovers stashed just in case the scavenger hunt is as good as I hope.
