“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
You have to remember one important aspect to this: We are not China.
The game will not function here as it does in China. The students I know over there are frustrated playing their version of the game too.
Also, by not having vistas and skill challenges available at an early level
I noticed the skill challenge restriction but I was too peeved to notice the vista restrictions. So much for leveling up by exploring the world.
You can get vistas from level 2. They simply don’t show up on the map prior to that. I’ve been getting vistas as I pass them on my character. It’s a gate for information, not for what you can do. The only exception seems to be skill points, which is okay because you can’t use the skills you buy with them anyway at low levels.
No, it’s not ok.
This isn’t just alarmist flaming. There is a serious issue that has been manufactured this patch.
The leveling in this game has be SERIOUSLY effected, for the worse. The only thing that was gated that I can understand is the story (it was disjointed otherwise). Placing a simple tutorial for different abilities and features would have been VERY appreciated (a la PvP tutorial).
Gating mechanics for new players AND old players with new characters is NOT appreciated.
because formal and polite never gets the mods to come and let the devs know we don’t like what they’re doing
I’m pretty sure devs make a point not to respond to rude and inflammatory remarks.
Make in constructive.
The story change is fine.
This way makes much more sense and gives the story in chapters rather than 5 minute segments every 1-2 hours.
The gating of skills and functionality until level 40 on the other hand…THAT makes no sense.
and look, no more dev response, they realized we have brains and realized we didn’t have to level up to do our stories before. and if konig’s right, the PS is screwy too. i loved having the epic fight against the legendary eye before going off to beat up zhaitain (or shoot at him with confetti cannons from a mile away -_-). if thats how it works now, don’t see a reason to even do the PS on any toon, any enjoyment i would get out of it is out the window. literally nobody likes these changes in their entirety
Statements like this is why they don’t respond in the first place.
The collection idea is great…but the carrot at the end is a piece of poo.
This SHOULD have been tied to the precursor scavenger hunt.
I am a bit surprised that more people aren’t upset about the poor rewards.
Indeed.
They created the perfect scavenger hunt that could have had precursors at the end…
…and then removed the precursor and placed a random exotic.
Yea, I don’t get the adrenaline change…was that the aspect of warriors that anyone complained about?
If they didn’t like the +15% damage for full Adrenaline trait, they could have lowered that particular trait instead of nerfing the entire mechanic.
For GS, it’s actually not that big of a problem. For longbow, rifle, or pretty much anything else relying on previously stored adrenaline, it’s a build killer.
That does seem illogical, but look at it from the other way. If completing the Ascended armor trilogy set guaranteed you a Precursor, wouldn’t players then be complaining that they’re “forced” to craft Ascended armor to get their Precursor? (Not to mention it would make Silk/cloth prices even more insane than they already are.)
As long as there was still the Mystic Toilet Method of aquiring a precursor, you wouldn’t really be forced into doing anything.
Along with guild halls, we are way past due on the precursor scavenger hunt front.
I think the weapons need to be balanced AND all utility skills need an underwater variant. The difference between classes atm is ridiculous.
Mind blown? Am I the only one who likes GW2 a lot more than GW1?
GW1 frustrated the hell out of me with its missions where you have to restart everything over on the first wipe. Then you get tons missions especially in Factions where you have to keep Leeroy Jenkins alive. Just frustrating. I didn’t even finish War in Kryta. The only reason I kept playing was because I’m an armor set addict and I wanted the Heritage armor set for my GW2 character.
This isn’t to say that there’s nothing in GW1 I wouldn’t like to see the devs bring over to GW2. Far from it. Elite skill hunts were very cool, subclassing was very interesting, the number of viable builds was impressive, heroes would be super cool in GW2 instanced content, the variety of skins was such that whatever look you had in mind, GW1 had something for you. I could keep going, GW1 had a lot of very good ideas that should be brought over to GW2, but so far I had more fun with the second game by a long shot.
As a 50/50 Gwamm…no, I love GW2 more as well.
People just tend to look back at gw1 with rose tinted goggles.
“Skill captures were fun!”…said no one in GW1. Cost 1k per skill cap and you had to pretty much vanquish a section of the map to get to a particular boss. Oh, and sometimes, said boss may not even show up. They fixed this with elite tomes so you could simply unlock the skill by essentially paying for it…because no one liked it.
“You had more exploration!”…that consisted of wall scraping with a 3rd party program installed.
“You have more build diversity!!”…that hardly anyone used. I know for a fact that the VAST majority of people used builds straight from the pvx wiki. It either sabway, mesmerway, or ritway or gtfo for hardmode. And in the end, out of the 1300+ skills (of which many are duplicates) in GW1, less than 10 percent were ever considered useful. Please show me the monk with orision of healing on his bar…The most mind blowing thing about the skill system is that a ranger could not have a pet. And please tell me how balancing worked out…there were times when skills remained broken for months…or years! Shadowform, Sliver Armor, freakin Ursan blessing…
I loved GW1, but geez, the “GW1 was 1000x better!” crowd could use a reality check.
I’ll afk in 9 rings (yes, there is an event where you afk), but that’s about it.

Screw two handed axes…
I vote for THREE handed axes.
Here’s TeamSasa’s GW2 workout:

Try that while playing Guild Wars
1. Guild Halls
2. Guild v Guild
3. User generated content in PvP and PvE
See, it’s at this point where I would say that you should start a guild OR host events within your own guild.
When you have gained a certain level of experience, the next thing to do would be to leverage your knowledge and become a valuable member of another guild or create a guild that is valuable to the community.
It also sounds like you are very much a PvE player. Have you tried PvP or does that not appeal to you?
I personally am going after unlocking all dungeon skins and all skins available through the game. Also still need to work on Mawdrey II which is another decent challenge.
So I’ve been working on losing weight this year (25 pounds down, 25 to go), but I LOVE GW2.
Magnus of Team Sasa created a pretty awesome GW2 workout. It’s pretty simple, but pretty effective (especially the bobble squats).
If anyone uses myfitnesspal, I started a group for those interested

Entry: Vorch De Asph (Thief)
Vorch was a special operative for the Ebon Vanguard over 250 years ago. An Elonian, he had traveled to the Far Shiverpeaks where he met a young, ruthlessly eccentric Mesmer by the name of Gwen Thackeray.
So moved by her leadership, he followed her and her husband to Ebonhawke. However, during one of his roof patrols, he was struck by a stray arrow from particularly daft trainee and fell to his death.
He now can be in Ebonhawke seen aiding vanguard trainees in their archery and checking patrols.

She can often be seen patroling the wreckage of Lion’s Arch, “dealing” with the looters and criminals that the Lion’s Guard doesn’t have the time to handle.
When not being a ninja, she has been spotted taking her pet flesh golem Nomnom out for a walk.

The latest hotfix should have resolved the remaining blocking issues for this release. Please let me know if there are still any problems with the open world portions so that we may continue investigating.
Nope. Girlfriend and I did the frostgorge chain. I could destroy the pillar…she couldn’t. Finished it about 15 minutes ago.
As time goes on, they will get better. You’ll start seeing it in the coming weeks…the same people that would stand on a point with 3 people already on it will be much more skilled and aware of the intricacies of PvP
Also, this thread was in very bad taste and poor form…

PvE
World Completion
Dungeons
PvP
WvW
same thing…happening in spvp and kittening me off atm
had to quit an arena match for the first time due to lag…
I’m not talking 1 or 2 secs…this is 5-10 second lag. Check netflix and another MMO and it does not persist in those instances…
fix it.
I haven’t seen a single day where you can’t complete all of the daily in PvE and/or WvW. It’s much harder to complete them in sPvP, but still doable.
The problem is that many people seem to have a mindset that “sure, it’s broken, but I believe ANet will fix it”. I wish I had such faith! But we have to critique the system as it is now, not based on what you think it will be after you believe it will be fixed. And in its current form the negative outweighs the positive, at least for me.
The point Vorch raised about a “larger, wider net for community” is a rather beautiful thought but unfortunately the reality isn’t quite as peachy. Most of the people you see you will rarely see again, which again raises a point of the lost server identity. Sure, every now and then I see familiar guild tags and names, but way less than I used to. Although, I am willing to check my opinion again if the system is tweaked, but I cannot depend on it, you know? I have to voice my concern on how it is now. And the lack of familiarity and my own server community is what’s bugging me a lot.
Would you prefer a sort of districting system a la GW1?
—First district is the main megaserver
—Second district is multi-server specific (i.e. 5 servers all get one server for guild missions)
—Third district is for overflow/RP
—Additional servers for over
Another suggestion is simply having all guild missions instanced/placed in an overflow.
I do not want to sift through the thousand+ posts so please forgive me if this has been asked.
Is it not possible to leave at least ONE hub server specific ? Its annoying having not just our guild but our server scattered in several different instances. Please for the love of god give us somewhere server specific outside of WvW.
Sounds like a great case for guild halls
You can start your own group. Start out with AC, and work your way through.
Alternatively, there are many groups (most) without class restrictions…
I prefer the megaserver system:
-Enables completion of boss level events and works very well with boss schedule
-Builds a larger, wider net for the community in PvE
-New players have people to communicate with in PvE
For the current issues (primarily, roleplaying and guild mission completion), I would simply recommend having a 3 district dropdown menu a la GW1 for each map. District 1 would be the primary megaserver and the other 2 districts would be usable by those who may need another server. Should District 1 overflow into the others, simply add more districts as the map approaches the softcap.
As it is, I find the megaserver to be a general improvement on my experiences and with future guild community functionality updates, I think most other concerns would be addressed as well.
So they should rather have been completely silent instead then?
Oh, but wait, when they were that was wrong as well.
Kitten if they do, kitten if they don’t.Well at least we now know who must be afraid to speak out against anything the company has to do that adversely affects so many people. That’s it, kitten their kitten, they like it when you do that. Do not forget to buy some more gems now too
My question is, why? Why do you feel the urge to stick up for them? We have been told to voice our complaints here, not kitten their kitten. I think we should have a separate thread for that, I’d gladly stay out of it! I just think it’s sad that out of all the people that have made valid complaints there’s a small and select group still managing to stick up for ANet. Maybe you’re an employee (posting on a non employee account)? Maybe you’re afraid of being punished somehow? Please my mind intrigues me on this one…
Just as dissent doesn’t warrant verbal abuse and baseless accusations, so does praise.
This is a feedback thread for both positive and negative constructive criticism. I understand that feeling hurt tends to make some individuals act illogically, but throwing around stereotypical tropes does nothing to help your criticisms be heard; it only tarnishes your view.
Be passionate, but be respectful.
(edited by Vorch.2985)
Just popping in to say, while I understand most of your concerns, I prefer the megaserver system.
Honestly, I think that a guild flag to keep guilds together would solve all the problems I’m hearing here (RP, Guildmissions, etc.). Also, guild mission collaboration may work better as well (multiple guilds getting credit for guild missions they are all taking part in).
Besides that though, it’s much better for newer players, imo. I love it, and I’m a veteran of GW1 and GW2.
See yall later.
No, the idea of a musical 2-handed hammer with a guitar skin is horrible. It breaks my immersion even more than the pony-bow.
Now a 2-handed GREAT AXE with a guitar skin…THAT I can get behind.
It was a poor event choice to lock a trait behind.
Yes, you can pay gold, but they really should have thought this one out. Good idea, poor implementation in this instance.
Doom, doom, doom, doom…
I’m not happy with alot in the patch (mainly town cloths), but this constant “Fix the game, it’s unplayable” thing is very overblown…
Going to sleep.
Roaming alone in PvE? Warrior (GS+Hammer, Hammer/Mace+Shield(my fave), GS+Rifle)
Roaming alone WvW? Thief
Infinite “Fear Me” would be kinda hilarious
Seriously opening threads to blatantly advertise for other games on official forums…
Come on, now.
Yea, it’s not really a grind…What I basically said was explore the zones at or below your level to completion, then work on the personal story…not a grind XD
If I wanted you to grind, you can go do the queensdale champion train
1. New Player Leveling
-Complete 2 1-15 maps
-Complete Personal story up to your level
-Complete 2 15-30 maps
-Complete Personal story up to your level
-Repeat
Alternate ways of “power leveling”
-Remember to craft (7 levels for getting to 400)
-When you get to level 30, try starting some dungeons
Level scaling
-It’s part of the game. You DO get stronger and the enemies will be easier to kill, but this is not a game where you will be able to steam roll any enemy because of your level.
at first i though you are quitting, and wanted to reply: " can i have your stuff?"
then i read all three posts, and i still have no idea what your point is.on more serious note, there is nothing to play today except gw2.
yes, it is sad.
not wildstar nor ESO will satisfy you. WOW is trash don’t even bother with it.
from time to time i try to play different MMO, and i always find myself comparing them to GW2. they are always inferior to GW2 in some way…
then i come back.our only hope is if SOE will make EQN up to its hype.
Funny you mentioned Elder Scrolls Online. Folks like to say GW2’s combat is fast paced because it has a dodge roll mechanic.
protip ESO has the same dodge roll mechanic. ESO also has 5 abilities and an ultimate ability – with instant weapon swap for 5 new abilities and an ultimate.
On top of that you actually block in ESO by holding down your right mouse button.
You also control the power of your attacks with staff, bow, or melee weapon by how long you hold down your mouse button. This plays into the strategy. If you block a mobs power attack (has a windup animation) then follow it up quickly with a power attack, you knock them down. The same for casters, their hard hitting spells have a cast time, and if you interrupt them you knock them down.
The animations are top notch. Armor clipping is practically non existent, amazing story..
And I can guarantee that if you like GW2’s combat, you will be blown away by ESO’s combat.
So yeah, they have choices.
Have you tried ESO AvA? Half the battle is getting on a balanced map…the majority are stupidly one sided…and will remain that way for 3 months
Everything you said is 100% exactly how most if not all of us seasoned mmo players feel. It’s those that have never played an mmo before gw2 or are just starting to play mmos that will disagree with you.
Good job and excellent commentary.
Seasoned MMO player here.
Don’t feel that way.

I’ll be playing more most likely.
The townclothes and naming of transmuted items SUCKS, but the rest of the update seemed good to me.
My main issues:
1. Transmuted items should have the name of the skin, NOT the name of the original item
2. Townclothes need to be revamped to allow dyeability and mix-and-match.
In general I like the wardrobe.
But I really hate what you did to town clothes… it was always my favorite to color my norn town clothes white/red during christmas and put on the festive had… now you ruined it and also now I need another two inventory slots for carrying my town clothes and my broom.. this sucks -.-
Pretty much this.
Also, I can’t even find my outfits…tried going through bank and everything
As the leader of a small guild, I have to say I like this feature. However, many players on my list are still listed as “Unknown” for their last log in. While debating whether to kick these players, it occurred to me that the time away from the game for “Unknown” is, well, unknown.
How long has a player to be away from the game for them to receive that listing?
Longer than March 1st
change the outfit system back. simple.
I’m upset, but I’m not going to go off the handle. This obviously didn’t work out as intended…so change it back or add more flexibility for mixing and matching and dyability.

The timing is a bit suspicious.
I’ve only had a few problems with BLTC items (flame light armor and infinite continue coin), but this seems to be a bit shady.
The rest of the update is pretty awesome and I don’t want this acting as a black mark…
If they could either add a Mystic Forge to main cities (which would be awesome) OR add crafting stations to the Vigil Keep, they would save a lot of face. They could still keep that item up as well.
I use excess dungeon tokens and mystic forge stones.
Gotten dusk and the chosen.
Keep tags as they are.
Add ranks based on WvW to differentiate each commander by experience (use rarity scale…i.e. blue>green>yellow>orange>pink>purple)
Keeps full functionality while allowing those with more experience in WvW to be seen.
Personally, I use my tag in PvE.
Here is my take on the “build diversity” of GW1 in PvE.
90% of the player base ran 1 of 4 team builds (Discordway, Sabway, Mesway, or Spirit way).
With 3 of those 4, half the player’s bar was taken up by Assassin’s Promise, “You Move Like a Dwarf”, and one other PvE only skill (Pain Inverter, Save Yourselves, Ebon Vanguard Assassin, etc.).
The rest of your bar complemented these skills or made sure that you had the energy to use them…This was the summation of Hard Mode Vanquishing and Missions.
For elite zones (UW, FoW, DoA) there were about 10 skills that were necessary…that’s it.
Don’t believe me? Out of the 1300+ GW1 skills, I’m gonna remove 10:
1. Shadow Form
2. Protective Spirit
3. Sliver Armor
4. Shield of Judgement
5. Spell Breaker
6. Spiteful Spirit
7. Signet of Spirits
8. Panic
9. Assassin’s Promise
10. Splinter Weapon
There goes PvE….
