“A release is 7 days or less away or has just happened within the last 7 days…
These are the only two states you’ll find the world of Tyria.”
Go to the wiki and check out “Armor nomenclature”
Find the dungeon(s) that have those stats and farm them.
You can also craft and buy the gear you want.
I would suggest making your desired build first and then seeing what complements it the best.
Good luck.
Im so shocked at how many people are so ill informed, assuming that they will add more tiers of gear the grind is insane they are caving to the 1%‘ers aka hardcore players….when they don’t realise everything they are saying is false and to be brutally honest those vocal forum complainers are the 1%’ers -_-
You are shocked at how you yourself are so ill informed
READ MY SIG
And the best they told was “we HOPE we wont add new tier” rofl
Anyway, you dont even need new tier for endless gear grind, they already have boatload of grind in this tier, dont worry, youll et new gear to grind every few months.
I read it as “should have” not “would have” so…
Also, I’m not seeing there anything that implies BiS gear – it only implies that at 80, you “should” already be competitive with others – which you are. Assuming you have rares.
Really?
Read it AGAIN rofl, seems it didnt sit well, hey read it as many times as you need to sink in.
K. I’ll copy-paste.
Colin Johanson: “Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”Everyone, including casual- no need to explain what this means.
by level 80 should have – again, “should” not “would”
best statistical loot – does not imply Best-in-stats-gear
We want – does not mean “we will”
Equal in power base – tell me how much difference it is to have ascended over exotic? Now everyone can see it still didnt sink in with you.
Its plain statement that cannot be taken any other way.
Keep chirping rofl
In GW1, did you need Superior Runes of Vitae to play in DoA, UW, or FoW?
No.
In GW1, did you need to grind title points to literally have PvE skills become more powerful?
Did you need those title ranks to participate in UW or FoW?
Did you need high Sunspear/Lightbringer titles to get into DoA groups?
Did you need high EotN titles to get into Dungeon pugs in GW1?
…..
As I do not need ascended gear to participate in PvE, dungeons, Fotm <22, or sPvP, I’m perfectly fine.
As WvW was never promised to be balanced, I am perfectly fine.
As ascended gear is largely a luxury item, I don’t NEED to have a single piece (I only have 2).
There was more optional grind in GW1 than GW2…and you actually needed to do those grinds in order to participate in meta-endgame successfully. \
/soapbox
My main character just got her first legendary a few weeks ago. She also has an ascended amulet from laurels and a lucky ring drop from fractals (I’m @ FotM lvl12)
The rest of her jewelry is green. Her armor was transmuted onto dungeon armor.
I have no interest in ascended weapons and ascended gear in general poses no threat to me. Outside of FotM 22+, ascended gear is pretty much a luxury item
WvW is the only game mode where people have a valid theoretical point. However:
lastly, if you are a casual who plays 2 hours a week…can you please tell me why you would even care about ascended items or keeping up with BiS gear? If you play that little, you will most likely be doing dungeons, general PvE, sPvP, or WvW…all of which can be done successfully without ascended gear.
TL;DR Ascended gear is a luxury item. It is NOT required for anything more than fotm 20+. It is NOT required for casuals and really should even be a goal for the super-casual player (2 hours a week?!) as they aren’t going to be doing anything that requires it.
Off Topic: It would be AMAZING if Nuka Cola and Vayne were the same person.
The only self-imposed restrictions you have made for yourself are FotM >20 (if you don’t want to “farm” fractals) and WvW (b/c people who love WvW obviously farm for full ascended gear before they enter).
You can do literally everything else in the game still. And karma should come naturally if you still play general PvE for 1-2 hours a day. No need to farm…
However, if the daily is too much effort for you…idk, man. I usually get mine done in 15 minutes after I do what I was going to do anyway. Takes about 30 minutes if I just log on for the daily (or 20 minutes if I decide to do the sPvP daily).
If it as nothing to do with numbers, even GW2 is istanced, but the cap is higher…
so GW2 is not an mmorpg…
Do you see now why I said that the only meter to define an mmorpg is the interaction between a lot of people? :ONo one you know would call that an MMO? (I have to post it again .-.)
Even ANet refers to GW1 as a CORPG…and it was.
As a GWAMM, I already know that GW1 was a CORPG…b/c it was.
There’s nothing wrong with that…
By your definition, CoD is an MMO b/c people interact on CoD forums and on voice chat.
While I do think the definition is a bit vague, I don’t think CoD would be considered an MMO by very many people.

I just got kicked from my overflow after waiting 1.25 HOURS.
Was a commander…got everyone prepped…then DC and can’t get back
So fraking kitten ed atm.
I seriously feel sick.

We’re about to start fighting Tequatl. You can join my party if you want in***
thanks for the invite
I think a consistent time would be nice so that we don’t have to afk XD
Has anyone gotten an invite yet?
i’d like an invite please
I’ll update the OP in a few minutes been studying XD
Actually, what blackgate did was have only ONE commander for DPS, that way ALL the turrets focused on a very small area, giving permanent swiftness and easy access.
It was beautiful
Wasn’t this patch supposed to remove the stacking in one spot while dpsing? Well it seems every server will do this from now on.
Yes, you are stacking. This allows buffs to be placed on more people.
No, you aren’t idolly pressing 1 while standing in a “safe spot”. You are dodging waves, avoiding AoE, stun breaking fear, running back when killed, and rezzing those who are downed.
And that’s if you are not defending turrets.
From what I’ve been seeing, you need 4 commander tags: 1 Left Turret, 1 Left Ranged DPS, 1 Right Turret, 1 Right Ranged DPS.
The Turret commanders lead players that are protecting the turret users. Their job is to direct the destruction of fingers, kill mobs, and ensure the safety of the turrets.
The DPS commanders are markers. they stand IN FRONT of the turrets while the turret users spam 4 and 5 on them and the mob surrounding them.
Players on turrets are VERY important. They need to understand that they are pressing #2 for scales, # 4 for buffing the DPS commander markers, and #3 to remove poison. Throw in #5 on DPS commander markers to make add heals.
That sounds like a very solid strategy.

So, in other words, the grand strategy to defeat the dragon is … to… stack. Who’d have guessed it.
Stack whilst avoiding waves, AoE, and Fear.
Also, you need to have another 2 teams protecting turrets and 6 people focusing on ensuring his wall never spawns.

These threads are sounding exactly like AC did after it was revamped.
Tequatl is permanent. I don’t think the timers are up to date yet, though.
Congratulations to Blackgate on being World Firsts to kill Tequatl!

Well done Black gate
In the next 24 hours, he will be beaten.
In the next 72 hours, there will be a strategy.
By the end of the week, he will be farmed.
People thought that dungeons like AC and CoF were too hard at one point…
Any news from blackgate?
Added a link with credit to sticky. Very nice strategy. gonna see how it works.

I’ve seen Blackgate get him under 2%. If anyone is on blackgate, PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO of the event.
Updated the OP. thanks to everyone who is contributing
Once it’s on farm status, it will be a VERY lucrative way of getting ascended items
Anyone have tips on where DPS should stand?
I would say that guilds should be in-charge of defending and using turrets while pugs should bring as much DPS as possible and kill fingers.
80c and 150 exp
Turret #4 gives AoE quickness for 8 seconds every 15 seconds…can not be understated
Thanks
That’s good…and horrible. what kind of DPS do we need to put out?!
Mind if I link this in the pinned topic? I’ll wait for your approval
Are you kidding me? You removed my name. Your post got stick. And I don’t get credit. sigh fml
S’why you should have just said he could quote you, Exos. His thread has a less … incendiary title. I’m sure he’ll add you back if you gave him permission to quote you.
And i gave you credit.
- Stake Thrower – Fires a stake, 1s recharge.
- Scale Penetration – Reduces his armor, 12s recharge
- Poison Cleanse (aoe) – 5s recharge
- Hylek Elixir (aoe) – pulses 1 stack might, fury, and quickness once per second for 8 seconds. 15s recharge
- Hylek Salve – Protection, Regen, Vigor, 5.5s ,15s recharge
So keep #4 up on stacks of melee folks, keep #2 on Teq as much as possible, and attack him with #1 which does decent damage.
THANK YOU. was wondering where to find those.
Mind if I quote you and place this under the “Tequatl: Tactics” page?
I did not give you my permission yet you just quoted me. Unbelievable.
I’ll remove it and keep the links then. sorry.
If you want to be pure melee, you actually have an important job: Turret Protection.
You should be killing the fingers that pop up all over the place. They poison the turret users. Also, kill any mobs that are around the turret users.
Anyone have the turret tool-tips anywhere?
Mind if I quote you and place this under the “Tequatl: Tactics” page?
I would say have charrzookas like with the Claw of Jormag that have the turret skills. Would eliminate griefers.
The mechanics are good, but I do agree that having 6 people out of 80+ be able to fail an event is harsh.
www.gw2stuff.com
We beat him, it takes coordination and good commanders. How we did it was, we broke up into 5 man organized teams for each turret and the rest follow 2 commanders on 2 different pathways, one left, one right and split the turrets to defend either left or right zerg. This is very doable and I’m hearing the whiners already. They clearly need to learn strategy, which is fantastic. Love this new revamp!!!!
Grats. What server?
What I noticed from the overflow i was on was the only times we actually damaged him was right after the bone wall went down. We got roughly 20% of his HP down in 2-3 times.
Now I may get shot for this BUUUUUUUUUUUUUT. Why not just let him stack 20 scales, kill his bone wall and DPS the everliving crap out of him and repeat? I mean we only did it like 2-3 times and got 20% and it wasn’t even on purpose we just failed to actually keep the scales off of him.
Anyway, this is probably an easy way out and if it does work would/should be fixed because then it’s a matter of waiting for bone shield to be up > destroy > DPS > repeat :P
With infinite time, that would work. With 15 minutes, you’ll want to keep his defense low so that you can manage your DPS as much as possible.
The only real issue I see here is having 6 people on turrets that don’t know what they are doing. I personally think that the southern triplet of turrets should spam #1 and #2 on Tequatl and the northern group should spam #3 and #5 on poison/zerg for healing.
What i’m seeing is that it really does come down to turret competence. Just need a way of making sure competent people are on turrets and stay alive.
- From what I’ve noticed, his buffs appear after he gets hit by players on foot. Meaning players have to AVOID just hitting him directly in large numbers, it won’t help the event.
- You need small groups guarding the ones on the turrets, otherwise they can get easily overwhelmed by mobs.
- Best suggestion I can think of is 4 turrets dealing with Teq using #2 to take off his stacks and #1 to hit him, and the other 2 using #3 to cancel out poison and #5 to heal allies.
This is all just for the first phase, btw.
Would telling south cannons to spam #1 and #2 and north cannons to spam #3 and #5 on zerg work?
Whats wrong with that? The people in the overflow i was in just shot at trandom mobs all the time. So we only got like 10 % of his health.
Nothing is wrong with that. Just need to make sure we have competent people on the cannons then, that’s all.
Let’s learn it first. I’m sure in a week or so, people will be saying it’s too easy -__-
So a lot of failure/success relies on the cannons and making sure that they stay alive?
I noticed it didn’t do nething either. And the NPCs that I THINK are supposed to man it kept running off and fighting random mobs.
Congratulations to Blackgate on becoming WORLD FIRST to beat Tequatl!!**(THANK YOU flickky.2634 for the video)

For Everyone
- If you die, use a WP and get back. Staying dead scales up the event even though you are not participating.
- From ANET (Crystal Reid.2481)
Stacks of Hardened Scales do not reduce incoming damage. It is just a complete invulnerability at 20 stacks until the Bone Walls are killed.

No one misses LF Healer/Tank/Etc. for 2 hours…not even those who like the trinity.
What does ‘2’ hours denote. If it is queue time, i’ve never spent 2 hours in a queue.
Ask about Domain of Anguish in GW1.
Ok, I’m asking…
It was an elite area in GW1 that required VERY experienced shadow form assassin (GW1 thieves) tanks for a 3-4 hour run.
Often, groups would have to wait and 1-2 hours to fill up, even with guilds. Most people just resorted to armbrace farming (a very valuable material in GW1).
