I think Raids could actually work for GW2.

I don’t think raids would work in GW2.

I do think that 20-man instanced content may work if cleverly designed.

Having four 5-man teams have to work through puzzles to help the other teams progress would be fun. Separating them in 4 different areas where the advancement of other teams relies on the actions of the others. That could be done.

And hell, it could end with a huge boss that all 20 of you can spam at the end.

But having 20 people from beginning to end in a game without a traditional trinity? I don’t see it being challenging at all.

I’ll just say a few things, even if they are going to be unread by you:

0. They are trying. There are very few “evil” developers out there. Yes, they made GW1…but this is an ENTIRELY different MMO with a brand new structure for them.

1. They need to make money, but there isn’t an evil conspiracy (evidence: you have material storage that they have even expanded).

2. They made mistakes. They, more importantly, KNOW that they’ve made mistakes. They are working to correct them

3. Play a game as long as you enjoy it and not a second more. If it stops being fun, take a break and come back if and when you hear something interesting.

4. Forums are full of people who agree or disagree with each other. The one thing that all sides bring is passion. Some people use that passion to make bold, yet still respectful criticisms. Others just let it loose with a rude and reckless abandon that winds up stirring up even MORE passions.

5. I hope you do come back eventually. The first 3-6 months of most MMOs is a time of great population fluctuations, mistakes, rehashes, rebuilding, and new visions. It’s COMPLETELY NORMAL for people to leave the game during this time. The honeymoon is over. Now it’s just time for ANet to work on continuously adding content to get those people back and THEN some.

People (myself included) love(d) GW1…yet they forget it’s growing pains as well (see my signature).

There are a lot of passionate debates on these forums. I believe that most INDIVIDUALS attempt to be constructive; even those who have put the game down for a bit. However, people who post the most FREQUENTLY tend to have an agenda: make this game look as horrible as it possibly can. Blind love of the game isn’t constructive either.

Imo, it’s always better to lead with a compliment, and then be as critical and respectful as possible, even if you’re impassioned.

But this is the internet, so really, what can you expect?

PRO TIP: Finish your clovers FIRST (never do 10 at a time)…this gives you reasonably priced mats for the gift of might and gift of magic.

Get that precursor LAST. I would even go so far as to wait for the scavenger hunt. The only 2 parts I really dislike about legendary weps are the lodestones (just a money sink, imo) and the badges of honor.

Yay for trivializing the OP with the very first response. It’s very easy to label things grind. Even moving around the map…

Thank you OP for trying to be helpful…I would also recommend doing jumping puzzles (some are REALLY well made), and hosting guild events. The former is challenging and the latter is inherently rewarding…at least imo.

I would also suggest trying out different classes up to level 40. I thought I hated the elementalist, but the staff and d/d ele builds are some of my favorites now.

ANet need to step up their game and fix the many dungeon exploits, so there’s no way to skip content.

It is very frustrating getting partied up with people that just want to rush through content as quick as possible, using exploits and kicking inexperienced players. They’re truly fun killers and ruin the experience for many players.

Rushing is fine. There are speed runs in every game. Exploiting, not so much.

I’m not sure where trivializing boss encounters by standing at range an auto-attacking lies…I do agree it needs to be addressed.

Also, take inexperienced players on guild runs with you so they don’t feel excluded. For instance, my guild teaches AC on Mondays and TA on Thursdays. You really can’t fault a pick up group for trying to pick the best people.

Being in party, useless?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Vorch.2985

Vorch.2985

The point is there’s no difference at all being in party or not. Im talking about, there are lets say 5 mobs, in a party of 5, each one picks up a mob, every mob should count towards the completion of a heart for every player, but instead only the guy who killed the mob gets profit, so its the same being in party or not.

I can’t think of any way this could possibly exploited…

No guild would have 1 person farm an event while 4 people afked near by and helped reap rewards…

No person would buy 5 accounts, have 4 of them afk near by, and farm events for 5x the rewards…

Nope.

Show me exactly where any developer has stated condition damage is meant to be a secondary stat. Because they have talked about condition damage builds several times, you don’t base a build on a secondary stat.

Are you serious?

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Attribute#Secondary_attributes

Now, open the game, press H and look at the attributes part. Do you see Condition Damage? Oh wait! It’s there, listed in 3rd place on your “Attack Stats”, under POWER and Weap. Dmg.

And you thinks builds suggested by devs are to be taken seriously?

Instances are balanced to 5 people.

The larger the group, the less someone needs to actively contribute to the group and still succeed. See most zergs in the open world.

There are methods of having multiple teams of 5 in an instance though, which I would not be opposed to. Having 2 or more teams have to solve puzzles and/or fight bosses for either to pass…shuffling the team members as they progress through, and ending with a 10-20 man boss fight would be cool. But simply having instances where 20 people run straight through…you would need the trinity to make that challenging. And that is something we don’t really need.

Guesting does allow any player to join any server in their region. This helps with server populations, but also means that those said players are not on their own server.

How is guesting helping with server populations?
All it does is increase the population of high population servers and lower the population of low population servers.

That’s rephrasing what I said It does bring more players together on one server, but also means that those players will no longer be playing on their server.

You can thank 55 monks, SF assassins, 600 monks, SS necros, Sliver Armor eles, and the like.

I can understand asking for more weapon skills, but you won’t be getting anything like GW1. If you think balance is bad now…imagine if you had 50 skills per class?

I’m also sure that the very next thing you’d ask for if they expanded skills is dual classing…

So no, I don’t want all the skills from GW1. What I do what are tougher individual enemies. Difficulty in the open world seems to be based on having 4+ mobs. What I’d like is improved enemy AI (running out of AoE, dodging, CC) so that each encounter requires that you actually think.

IMO, PvE skills in GW2 are not the problem…the enemies you fight just don’t really require that you adapt your build or skill usage to them.

These skills were removed because people in CoF path2 were letting Maggs die at the bomb part and reviving him, then repeating, and everytime he’d get further out of the room.
Eventualy you could revive him, and start without the mobs attacking him.

I don’t think that’s the case. Source? I say that because it would make a lot more sense to fix the event script rather than nerf all revive skills.

What the hell is culling? Sorry, I looked it up and still I’m confused.

To cut back on resources models are loaded selectively in situations and areas where there can be a lot of players, this is culling. It’s most prelevant in WvW, because of the large scale battles. It isn’t the problem per se, it’s actually a solution that helps lower-end computers play the game.

But it can be abused by players. Currently, if a person uses stealth in WvW, they can essentially be permanently invisible, because culling slows their model loading after leaving stealth.

Thanks for the explanation So it’s basically character models not showing up due to loading and resource management? I can see how that could be abused.

I dont care about WvW its a kind of PvP for me. I like it sometimes, but also, I’d like to play on a PvE map with more than 5 players. channels system from GW1 was great. the problem come from gathering points and events.
Gathering points can be easily fix by giving a number for each gathering points on the maps, that way you’re not able to gather it on another channel.
For event farming problem, i’m sure there are many options.

Guesting that comming looks a bit fuzzy

Ty for the support.

I think to prevent event farming, a simple 15min cooldown would be alright. Enough to prevent people from hopping around, but short enough to make sure you can get with your friends.

Maybe I’m not understanding the OP correctly here, but isn’t the upcoming option to “guest” on other servers going to give you what you’re looking for? It will allow you to do all pve events on any server, correct?

Yes and no.

Guesting does allow any player to join any server in their region. This helps with server populations, but also means that those said players are not on their own server.

Districting places continues to place players on one server’s map until it approaches capacity. Assume that queensdale’s capacity is 100. That means if there are 5 districts open for queensdale, districts 1-4 are at 100 or close to 100. District 5 can be anywhere between 1 and 100. This ensures people can access populated maps A LOT easier and meet people playing in a given area.

The amount of districts for a map at any one time can fluctuate based on district populations.

no. that would ruin the game and fracture the community for real.

How so? I think with districts, you are much more likely to meet people. Do servers really have a purpose outside of WvW?

If you put in districts, there will be a serious lack of community. I like having servers for PvE because I like seeing familiar faces and hanging with friends. To remove that would destroy the community outside of guilds.

The ability to move relatively freely between districts would mean you can still hangout with your friends AND would remove the need to guest.

And I don’t buy the argument that you need to split the player base to unify the community. I think that WvW can already provide server/guild pride and that GvG can further that. In the open world, I really would rather see as many people as possible rather than stick with server restrictions.

IMO, it would be as simple as only being able to join a guild that is on the same server you rep for WvW. However, you can go out into the world and mingle with people from all other servers in the districts. The only place you would be separate is WvW.

There need to be more than 1 server because of the massive traffic of thousands of players.

Districts would have a population cap per map. For the sake of arguement, let’s say that number is 100.

Once a map reaches 80 in dist 1, people are placed in dist 2 when they go in. They can manually go into dist 1 until the cap is reached. once dist 2 on a map reaches 80, people are slotted into dist 3 and can manually go into dist 2 until the cap is reached. and so forth.

No longer able to ress in combat?

I am actually looking forward to this. I partially want to see people actually THINK more, but I also want to see what they do about the actual encounters (CoF zerg, TA spores and CoE Alpha…)

Should servers be WvW exclusive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

As much as I appreciate the implementation of WvW, I feel like this game mode is causing A LOT of problems for the rest of the PvE community. In fact, I feel the the only real reason we have servers in the first place is WvW. Otherwise, these servers are just separating the community.

Should guilds/players just choose a WvW server and then have “districts” for general PvE? I understand gathering nodes would have to be reworked, but that’s a VERY small price for having many more people around. Even if there was a 10-30 minute cool down on how often you could change districts to prevent event exploitation, I’d be cool.

I feel that merging servers really won’t solve the issue and would lead to bad blood. What’s the harm in letting us play together in the outer world?

Any comments or criticisms are appreciated.

Wish I could sticky this. I’m one of the complainers here, but I try to be constructive. It’s because I know that this team has a good foundation that I’ll continue to stick with them.

Quote for the new Man of Steel movie trailer sums it up:

“They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun.”

ANet isn’t infallible and they need to make money, but they have the player’s interest in mind. Going forward, they just need to keep mistakes to a minimum

Improve enemy AI…nerfing damage and making the area smaller is just lazy.

How do you feel about leveling alts

I actually loved the leveling and liked the story up to level 50.

I hate the fact that to actually understand the story, you probably need to play through 5 characters MINIMUM.

Game Changes: Metrics vs Forum Feedback

Metric based balancing is important to game balance.

Addressing balance from player feedback is important to player retention and satisfaction.

It seems that they are focusing on metric based, which is needed, but also needs to be grouped with player concerns.

I would remove the player name from your post. I think it’s against the rules.

The real reason for nerfing AoE

Exploring, dungeons, fractals, crafting, gathering, buying with intent to make profit.

You don’t have to be a genius to realize that you’re incompetent at money making. How do you think people earn the money to buy the tier 3 cultural gear. Stop complaining about things you have no knowledge of.

To be fair, its pretty easy to lose quite a bit of money in GW2 if you simply romp around the maps at high levels, do random events and make alts. Not everybody can or even wants to play the TP. I’d say FotM falls under dungeons and not everybody is into grinding those, crafting requires a significant investment and maybe some of the top level stuff pay off, Mitch, you’re probably better off selling the mats. If you’re selling gatherables from you’re explorations then o.k you can make some money but apart from some rarer stuff like chili peppers, sesame seeds, ori ore etc, gathering for income can be a problem, especially when you’re contending with teleporting gatherers. And I know people buy gold (legit and otherwise), I know some who have outright quit because it killed the fun for them when they realized how much of the game hangs on it. Some even get help from their guilds. Many people have problems finding a “sweet spot” so cut the guy some slack lol.

I just realized…what does this have to do with AoE nerfs? ><

In all fairness, you can make money in dungeons extremely easily…at least 2g in an hour at minimum from AC speed or money runs.

I like this change. Dungeon attrition strategies were a bit ridiculous (looking at you, CoF).

HOWEVER, I want to play through certain bosses to make sure they feel balanced. If I die a few times, it’s fine. If the party in full exotics get’s face-rolled in 2 secs, then something may need to be worked on.

Don't nerf AoE

Could be ANet got clued in on that video of 5 elementalists holding back a zerg at a chokepoint and felt that was not how the game should be.

If ANet really want to nerf AOE they need to increase CC effectiveness in PVE roaming considerably, so that whenever you face down 2+ mobs (and that is more often than not) you can keep at least some out them out of the battle while dealing with the rest.

The problem in that video was not aoe, it was the zerg was full of stupid people and the people holding the choke point were actually smart and played tactics well….trust me, I’m part of the dumb kitten server that got their butts handed to them in that video (a bunch of PvE noobs that think they know tactics).

THANK YOU. Balance at the upper 1/4 to 1/5 of skill level…do not balance the game to fit the needs of the unskillful.
