Questions on dailies

To add to this: It’s advantageous to complete the daily on your highest level character, since the XP and coin reward scales with your current characters level.
Most of the XP you get completing the tiers of the achievements, so even if your highest is already 80 and doesn’t need xp, it’s better to complete the daily on that one.

Note that complete means fill out the last category, not opening the chest. The chest will only be available to the character you were on when it appeared.

Thats not entirely true. The coin doesn’t necessarily scale with your level (unless you mean your adjusted level?), it scales with the level of the zone you’re in when you finish it.
I’ve completed it on a lvl80 in a lower zone and didn’t get the 5s I would have got if I had completed it in one of the high level (70-80) zones.
I’m not sure about the XP though, since I’ve never kept track of that.

I didn’t realize that. Does WvWvW maps count as a level 80 map?

I would love to group with people. A lot of time if I find a good player I follow them around and use my attunement switching to give them boons (not that it’s a huge help or needed in open world PvE, but I like to feel like I’m helping others).

It’s hard to find people to do this with though.

Dungeon Reform

Wasselin.1235

Then why are trash mobs there? Is it supposed to be some kind of “strategy” to run through them until they reset? From what you describe Kerrigan a dungeon should just be a run from a start line to a finish line. It might be more efficient that way but is it actually fun?

It’s how it has always been since GW1, and I guess a lot of new people caught on to it after running with GW1 players. When there are no world first achievements and no gear progression the only way to tell how good someone is at doing something is how efficient they are at doing it.

The Speed Clearing community was probably the most disliked and misunderstood community in GW1, and it looks like they already are in GW2 with 20 new threads exactly like this popping up on various forums every week.

But guess what? Don’t like it? Don’t do it!

EDIT: And yes people obviously think it’s fun >.<

I get that speed clearing could be fun— I just disagree that it’s fun to run past mobs. Sneaking past a few mob packs can be fun, without aggroing them, but running through them until they reset just seems completely unintended behavior to me.

A group that knows which packs to avoid and has a strategy for killing the mobs they can’t avoid aggroing should be rewarded. A speed clear should be a measure of skill, not a measure of how fast you can run through mobs until they reset.

It’s just a waste not to have a dungeon finder. It’s like making a beautiful house and then requiring that people climb in through a window to get inside.

There really needs to be a dungeon finder. It’s just a necessity in a modern mmo. It turns doing a dungeon from something you have to set aside 2 hours to do into something that you can reasonably get done in under an hour. A lot of gamers now a days just don’t have the free time to commit to setting large chunks of time for a game.

For some unknown reason I’ve built myself as a support elementalist who clears conditions, hands out boons, and provides a good burst heal every now and then— but there doesn’t really seem to be a place for that in the open world.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I don’t like it. It’s not fun giving up some of your characters power in order to have a better chance at dropping loot. I think the food buffs are the perfect place for magic find, but not gear.

It’s also kind of weird, since you are usually working towards getting better gear, and so you don your magic find gear to farm mats, golds, exotics, to improve your gear. But once you actually do improve your gear—- you won’t actually wear it most of the time. You’ll still wear your magic find gear to increase drop rates.

I like condition damage as an ele, especially because it’s usually very reliable to apply. A lot of our skills are easily dodged, but you can’t dodge flame burst. Each Element stronger - Longer Switch delays

in Elementalist

Posted by: Wasselin.1235

Wasselin.1235

I almost think this is supposed to be possible right now (at least in arenanet’s mind). I think you are supposed to be able to buff your favorite attunement by going down that trait line OR choose arcane trait line and switch rapidly between them. The problem is that the elemental traits lines don’t really support it because they suck.

Traits like Internal Fire, Pyromancer’s Pussance, One with Air, Piercing Shards, etc… reward you for staying in one attunement. The problem is that no trait line can transform an attunement into a real full-fledged weapon set like what the other professions have access to.

“Please find my dear friends… Dead or Alive” -redmakoto

What if our attunement swap worked backwards?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Wasselin.1235

Wasselin.1235

An interesting idea— but why is a huge penalty even necessary? The defining feature of the elementalist is supposed to be versatility. Right now the price we pay for attunement swapping, as you note, actually makes us less versatile NOT more, because all of our skills are half-skills (compared to other classes) and no attunement can really stand on it’s own. Also we are locked into what the developers give us— while other professions have a little bit more flexibility because they get to choose what they swap to.

I get where you are going and do think that increases the cooldown on attunement swapping could give room to the developers to make each attunement more viable all by itself. But it would also require a huge overhaul of the profession. Can you imagine playing staff and being stuck with fire and earth on 1 minute cooldowns?

I think ArenaNet would only do this as a last resort, because it would basically be removing what is supposed to make the elementalist special.

“Please find my dear friends… Dead or Alive” -redmakoto

So what's the reasoning behind nerfing us even further underwater?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Wasselin.1235

Wasselin.1235

We really need another underwater weapon. It’s just not fair to only have one choice because it doesn’t mesh with all of our possible builds.

Say I’m an arcane staff elementalist with condition damage/healing and I play by giving buffs and loading the enemy with conditions by laying down combo fields. When I go underwater I would suddenly have only 2 heals and no water combo fields, no fire combo fields, a burn on a 40 second cooldown and a bleed that requires me to be in the face of the enemy (and the 1 second lol bleed from rock blade).

I think the trident and lack of choice with underwater weapons really show the price we pay for attunements isn’t MORE versatility but LESS. If each attunement was really able to stand on it’s own and be comparable to the kit other classes have in ONE weapon then maybe we would be more versatile but we would still be locked into what the developers give us.

I agree. Skipping trash by just running through it all and waiting for it to reset just feels wrong to me. I also see that killing the amount of trash mobs that are in the dungeons is a waste of time and tedious. So I see why people want to skip them.

I can’t believe that is how ArenaNet intended for the dungeon to go down. What is the point of having so many trash mobs? Is it really supposed to be a “run the gauntlet” style of game play? Or is it to make the dungeons way longer than they need to be?

Wasselin.1235

Is it intended that Gylph of Elementals cooldown to triggers twice? In PvE the cooldown starts counting down right when you summon the elemental, and then starts over again when the elemental dies.

The second cooldown shows how long the elemental lasts.

It doesn’t. I have the trait that reduced the cooldown. The first cooldown starts counting down from 96 seconds. at around 36 seconds the elemental dies, and the cooldown starts counting down again from 96 seconds. If it was displaying the amount of time the elemental lasts the first cooldown should start from 60 seconds.

Now it could be that they mean for the first cooldown to be the duration and it’s a display bug OR prehaps they actually changed the cooldown to start when you summon the elemental (listening to player feedback) and forgot to take the part out where the cooldown stats when the elemental dies.

I just tested it in the mists, the second timer shows how long the elemental lives. Every time I use it, 60 seconds start counting down. The glyph resets and starts the cd of 96/120 after elemental dies.

So it does work in the mists, it doesn’t display correctly in pve.

I just tested it in the mists and in lion’s arch. In the Mists when you summon the elemental it shows 60 seconds. When it dies the 120 second cooldown starts ticking down. In Lion’s Arch it shows the cooldown of 96 seconds instead of the duration when you first summon the elemental.

So really the CD number should say “However long your elemental lives up to 60 seconds + 96/120”

Yeah so really the cooldown is 3 minutes / 2:36 seconds long. In PvE it just doesn’t display correctly.

Personally, I stopped doing dungeons because most people I ran into while doing them were dbags. The dungeons are like an antithesis to the rest of the game. You get kicked for watching cutscenes, people leave if they die and to make things worse, without a dungeon finder tool, you spent 30+ minutes just hanging out in a particular zone spamming /map to find a group.

I agree! They state that their design goals is for the game to be fun moment to moment. No waiting around to have fun. Unfourtantely dungeons couldn’t be further from that. A lot of the dungeon design “undoes” the visceral nature of combat because very often the “best” way to do something is to run past it or cheese it somehow.
