There was this lady in one of the Arenanet interviews who was a voice actor. As soon as I heard her talk, I thought “omg it’s Elexus!” But I don’t know what her name was.

Is your charr scarier looking than mine?

Probably not, but for Halloween purposes, I think she’ll do fine.

I can bend my back forward into a charr-like hunch, but I’m a human—why on earth would I walk around like that?

A charr can stretch its back in human-like posture—but it’s a charr—why on earth would it walk around like that?

Just because a charr CAN straighten its spine, doesn’t mean that is comfortable or natural.

I agree.
My human is supposed to be about 12 years old. I designed him to look very young.
Yet every time he speaks, this big buff man voice comes out. It’s awful! I can’t bear to listen to it anymore, so I just mute it.

Why does female gear *generally* look better?

I prefer the male skins, because most of them are sensible.
I think a lot of people like the aesthetic of form-fitting female armor that brings out the female shape. But as a straight female, I have zero interest in looking at the female form. And out of personal preference, I prefer sensible over flashy on both genders.

Chubby Characters

I agree. People argue that “overweight people wouldn’t be in the game”
But as a matter of fact they would. Food seems plentiful and readily available. You don’t have to walk much because there are waypoints. Mages just have to stand back and cast spells, not physically fight.
There are plenty of oppritunities for a character to become chubby. Further more, there ARE healthy and physically fit chubby people—watch marathon runners. Some of them are technically overweight, but they’re still fit enough to run 26 miles at once.

But if you’re going to add chubby options, make sure there are FEMALE chubby options too. I remember in Star Wars you could make a morbidly obese man, but the women couldn’t even be slightly chubby.

Arenanet describes them as “demonic hell-cats”

As people have mentioned, they seem to take elements from a variety of creatures. Personally, they look like Cat-Dragon hybrids to me. Some of their faces do have a “canine” cast, but still with heavy feline influence.

Which legion did you pick for your main ?

Stereotypical: Blood Legion Warrior.
However, her massive physical bulk and the stereotypes about Blood Legion warriors being stupid/brutish actually benefit her. She is highly observant—enough to put an Ash spy to shame, and extremely intellegent to boot. The fact that people don’t expect these traits from a front-line Bloody tends to give her the upper hand.

Charr Medium Armor - No Playtesting, or just Not Important?

In terms of standing straight, only Flame Legion Shamans and other casters did that in GW1. If you look in GW2, Flame Legion casters still stand straighter then other Charr—it seems to be a Flame Legion exclusive mutation. If a Charr went around the Black Citadel with such bad posture, they’d probably accuse him of heresy.

Charr should have been the main enemy. Undead are boring and repetitive.

Land was the Charrs?

That’s a bit flimsy. It just goes back to ‘finders keepers’, goes to ‘who had it first’, rather than ‘who deserves it’.

Fact is, Ascalon was a peaceful and civilized nation, and charr were a bunch of rabid, stupid dogs. All they had was brute strength.

Their claim to the land is no stronger, than that of a bears, to America.

If it so happens that millions of bears suddenly destroy America, it doesn’t make them right.

Sounds to me like you’re just a typical pissy Ascalonian who isn’t over the charr-human war XD
They weren’t rapid stupid dogs, but the breakdown of their government and constant pressure of a losing war prevented their society from advancing. The same thing happens to the humans after they are driven from Ascalon and Elona—allowing the charr to gain some stability and catch up with them.

It would have been equally as boring if the charr had remained the enemy. They would just become another mindless Orc horde (with fur) to go out and slaughter.

Honestly, I think it would have been cool if Abbadon had managed to escape Torment and corrupt a good portion of the world. Fighting armies of Torment minions and an evil, destructive God would be way more interesting then dragons & zombies, or fluffy Orcs XD

At least with the way the games lore is set out, its likely that the charr, after defeating the dragons, will attack the civilized races and then, be wiped out as the truly civilized races wipe them out.

I’m afraid not XD. The charr and norn like each other too much, I suspect they’ll leave one another alone. The asura are too useful to be attacked.

Charr and humans might go to war again, though. The Sylvari would probably side with the humans. A good number of Norn would probably be recruited to fight with the Charr.
So at the end of the day, it depends on what the Asura do :P

Why did you roll a Charr?

First, because Pyre Fierceshot from GW1 looked awesome and made me really interested in the race.

Second, because I read the women’s rights theme in charr lore. As a woman, female liberation hits an emotional point for me and draws me to any story .

Third, because I was looking forward to seeing Ascalon 250 years later. Playing GW1, I always wondered if the land would regrow, and always wished I could see it happen.

Fourth because screenshots of the female charr were released. By that point I was sick and tired of getting poorly drawn boobs-on-a-stick for every female character, as opposed to cool-looking males. The female charr were something I never dared hope for.

Fifth because I hated Gwen with a passion, and was willing to adore anybody she disliked.

There was one I recieved late in my personal story that worked very nicely for a charr. I was honestly shocked that it was for heavy armor, because it’s basically a hood with horns. The horns replace your charr’s horns, but their position on the head is correct, so it looks like those are just the charr’s normal horns sticking through holes on the hood.

Charr Height and Weight?

in Charr

They are probably slightly under 6 feet tall. They seem really big because of the width of their shoulders, but the digitgrade feet actually take off several inches of height.

The average human male is slightly under six feet tall. But the average charr is head and shoulders above the average human male, and a big one twice that. So no, except for short charr, they’re way taller then 6 feet.

However, they are (from what I’ve noticed) normally taller than humans. So if we take the base human height as somewhere between 5-6 feet, I’d say the charr are somewhere around 6-7. I’m not sure what the shortest charr looks like next to the tallest human (there’s a picture out there somewhere…)

Ok, scratch all that, here’s a page. http://www.guildwarsinsider.com/in-game-character-heights/

Looks like charr go from 5 ft. even to almost seven. Humans go up to 6’ 3". All the other races are there as well.

I don’t think this is quite accurate, judging from the in-game charr. They’re definatley larger then that.

I would guess that the average charr is about 7 feet in height. They probably range from 5.5 feet to 9 feet.

Flame Legion Armor Glitch

in Charr

Weindrasi.3805

On the light Flame Legion armor, the female charr tail glitches. When it turns molten, it becomes a male tail—with fur only at the end. Since light Flame Legion armor covers the entire body and head, there is no way to tell that a female charr is in fact female. The molten animation needs to be changed so it has the appearance of a female tail—perhaps with fire along the bottom.
