Fix to something that bothered me

I’ve noticed this problem with some helms, and my charr’s head is smaller than average. I downsized it about 2/3 of the way to make her body look bigger. But on helms that cover her entire head, the head ends up looking just a tad too large.

This has happened to me too! I was at 99% map completion on a character for MONTHS, even though I had completed the whole dang map. Eventually, I went to a section of the map and found that a number of waypoints I had already discovered were fogged and undiscovered all over again. This was a zone I had finished and gotten the reward chest for, that for no reason at all, I lost exploration on. When I re-explored the waypoints, I got my 100%

They do add new areas and wp’s to the map when they add guild challenges and jumping puzzles or other things. That is totally different from what the OP is referring to.

No. This has nothing to do with the added areas—those aren’t what prevented my map completion. An area that has existed since launch, that I discovered, fogged up again after I discovered it.
Furthermore the map area that re-fogged, the Cursed Shore, has received no additions due to guild challenge or living story stuff.

Cursed Shore had one or two extra WPs added.

Again. It was an area which had been there since launch, which I had already explored.

Charr stereotype

Weindrasi.3805

My main is a charr warrior because, after I developed her physical appearance, that profession just fit best. She’s very tall and extremely heavily-muscled. Considering her physical talents lean toward strength and endurance, warrior just seemed to be what she would have been naturally inclined to in the fahrar.

One of my alts is a charr warrior as well. She’s an idiot. Since magic takes patience and intellect, engineering takes patience and intellect, thieving takes the ability to be quiet, and rangers have to like (as opposed to torture) animals…. her complete lack of smarts and general noisy demeanor left her with no other option.

That said, I also have a charr necromancer, elementalist, and engineer.

Like someone above me said, you can’t really compare the charr from guild wars 1 and 2 that you posted. The GW1 charr is male, the GW2 charr is female. Gender dismorphism accounts for some of the appearance differences. Also, the GW1 charr is a SHAMAN. Shamans back then forced their naturally-curved spines to be straight because it was a cultural norm at the time. Since Shamans fell out of favor, spine straightening is no longer practiced among the playable legions. Flame Legion shamans still stand straight though.

At the end of the day, people play charr warriors because it fits their military culture. For the same reason, you see a lot of sylvari rangers and asura magic-users.

Optimal Female Charr Shape for Backpieces

i think one problem with this is, charr is the least played race in all of them, and of that most people play a male one (i do too, but i never play a female char).

People are used to picking male on beast races, because females are often poorly designed. In Gw2, the females look awesome, but people are still going to pick what they’re used to first.
I think that, with time, female charr would grow much more popular. To an extent, they have. However, what prevents it is exactly what you said—charr in general are unpopular. They have too many problems with armor, and female charr have it the worst. Shoulder pieces are scaled to fit male shoulders (and they still float), so with female shoulders, the float is 10X worse because they’re smaller

I accidentally discovered a bug, where if you step into one of the animal cages and kill the animals inside, the cage will close on you. You can’t get out, so you fail the event and have to waypoint.
While I was in the cage, these two came and made fun of me as I explained my plight. I then waypointed out and convinced them to redo the event with me so we could make the bug happen again. The result was 20 minutes of humor and naked dancing XD

Improve the wings back items!

in Suggestions

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

I can’t help but cringe every time I see those silly, ridiculous wings sprouting out of some player’s back. They are a cool idea, but they look terrible right now. Since they are flightless, why are they constantly, endlessly, flapping? Flap, flap, flap, flap—the same pace, all day long, regardless of what the player is doing.
The wings need to be given some variety and realism. For example, when a player is out of combat with the weapon put away, his/her wings could be neatly folded along the back. When out of combat, with weapon drawn, the wings could unfurl slightly and give little half-flaps, like they’re warming up. When in combat, the wings could unfurl and flap like they do normally right now. And when attacking, the wings could do different movements depending on how the character’s body moves when using a skill.

Weindrasi.3805

It’s a cool idea and a great drawing, but honestly, I think the wings in-game look horrible. They’re corny and poorly designed—the constant flightless flapping just adds to how silly they look. That’s arenanet’s fault of course, not yours. Done right, it could work—my taste for wings in Gw2 has just been soured.
Wings could be cool, if they would fold shut when a character is out of combat, unfurl halfway and beat gently when the weapon is drawn, and unfurl all the way and beat with more strength when the character is attacking. That would lend some realism to what is, at the moment, just a flashy back item that makes characters look bad

Look in the Guild Wars 1 Wiki and the Guild Wars 2 Wiki. Read the lore there. Guild Wars 2 does a HORRIBLE job of presenting and explaining the lore, so I suggest you read up on it beforehand.

-Know the lore of your chosen race.
-Read about the conflict between Charr and Humans, it’s a big thing
-Read about Jora and the Sons of Svanir, Flame Legion, and the Inquest—it’s always good to know your bad guys

…..The GW2 wiki has info on a ton of other stuff too, like where you can locate armor, completed maps so you can see where you’re missing something, and so-on.

Cantha Expansion Prof. and Race suggestion

This thread has a couple issues which may be preventing it from getting attention. First, the thread is too long for the average player to want to read—it should be maybe a third of its current length or shorter. Short and sweet will gain answers. Second, the title needs to invite other players in. Try something like “What do YOU want in a Cantha Expansion?”

Your monk idea could work, but it would need another name besides monk. “Ninja”, “Martial”, “Striker”, “Master”… something like that.

For the Tengu, I completely agree.

Myself, I just want to see the re-emergence of the Kurzicks and Luxons. Although they were overthrown, it would be nice if rebels went into hiding and struggled to keep their culture alive over generations of oppression. My human main is designed to look Kurzick, so it would be super cool if she could go to the homeland of her ancestors and find bits of her heritage.

Or they would just do really basic tasks at a relative’s lab? Is it possible they would be “quietly disposed of” for the betterment of society? What do you think?

My main is a charr female necromancer. Just saying
Also she is insanely cute ^^

A big problem is that apparently most players can’t tell the difference between a female and a male. The design is not the issue though. Still I wonder why?

People have come to expect all females in games to be sexualized. If players see a creature that isn’t sexual, that automatically reads “Male” to them.

We can only be thankful that didn’t happen! Or rather, maybe they are sexualized… in a charr way? It’s not like we can tell.

But it’s quite sad it has become like this in the gaming world!
I’d say GW2 is in a quite good spot in the universe of game sexualism. There however should be many more options (for all races) to dress their characters in a more normal sense. And since fashion/looks is a big part of GW2, ANet should use this feature as a demonstration.

But I’m going OT

I agree. Guild Wars 2 is pretty good when it comes to female characters. Except for charr and asura, sexualization is still a problem, but we can choose practical armors for the humanoid females if we want. I found some covering armor that doesn’t even outline the breasts XD yay
As for sexualized charr females… the way those fluffy tails swing… mmm I bet the charr males can’t get enough haha. That wintersday dress was pretty hot too XD

Yes, you’ll be able to transmute it as you get new armor. When I create a new character, I want it to look good right away, so I buy high level armor and transmute it to my level 2. Then, as I level up and get better armor, I can just use my trans stones to keep the look.
You can get more trans stones by completing maps. The easiest maps to complete are the capital cities—Black Citadel, Divinity’s Reach, Lion’s Arch, ect.

I have four female charr. I don’t want them to look human-female feminine at all. Rather, I want them to look like huge, muscular, eat-your-face-off beasts. It wouldn’t make sense to choose a cat-monster-from-hell race if you wanted a human-female-pretty character. While my charr are vicious, they also feel very much like females to me. If they were forced to wear “girl clothes”, they would actually feel less female to me. They’d stop being females, and start being cats in silly dress-up-clothing. I relate to them much better when there’s nothing to show their gender except biology.

My guild is a WvW guild, so we’ll frequently get on teamspeak with the other WvW guilds—even more chatter.
In terms of talking over mapchat, I’ve seen it happen. One time as I was wandering around doing heart quests, I got into a long conversation with a bunch of people about religion, and marijuana, and feminism, and sylvari, and gaming, and all this other random stuff. Also, when I’m doing long tedious farming zergs, there are usually people I can strike up a conversation with to pass time. But you’re right, it’s not something that happens frequently.

You do not need to be kind or helpful to make money in this game.

All you need to do is become proficient at running dungeons, and follow the event or champion zergs around the map, boom, rich. Repeat this ad nauseam and you will be swimming in gold.

In terms of being nice, it’s not going to get you a lot of money, or even regular money. But it’s certainly nice to get gifts on the side because you talked to somebody, and it enhances the community. So why not post it?
The zergs for Clockwork Chaos are glorious—all that quick money! It may not be something everyone likes to do though. I’ve tried to avoid farming in this thread, because people complain frequently that they hate it. But yeah, for those who don’t mind, farming, farming, and more farming XD

Nergal Junior's Guide to Making Money in GW2

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

I see quite frequently on the forums, players who complain that earning gold is too difficult, or new players who aren’t sure what the best methods are. So, I figured I’d make a thread with some simple tips and tricks for making money in Guild Wars 2. If anybody has ideas to add, feel free.

1. Always keep a pick, axe, and sickle on hand. Never pass up a chance to harvest materials—ever! I’m not saying spend hours farming, oh no. But as you go your way in PvE or WvW, harvest every material you happen to pass by. Save these up, in addition to the materials you get off of monsters, and sell them out on the trading post every two months or so.

2. When you get gold weapons or exotics which you don’t want to use, sell them on the trading post. NEVER sell them to a merchant. Merchants will only give you a couple silver. The trading post can get you many times more money. Players are willing to pay a lot for gold and exotic items.

3. When you get salvageable items like jagged metal scraps, leather straps, and so-on, either salvage them or sell them on the trading post. Again, NEVER sell them to a merchant. You won’t get your money’s worth.

4. While we’re on the subject of the trading post, keep this in mind. When you sell, the option of “Sell to the highest buyer” is automatic. Don’t use this. You want to select the second option, “List at the price of the lowest seller”. You see, the lowest seller is selling at a higher price than the highest buyer wants to pay. If you give in to the highest buyer, you’re selling your item for cheap. By listing your items instead, you force the players to BUY FROM YOU at a higher price. Since demand is high, it usually only takes a few seconds to a few hours for someone to buy the item you listed.

5. On the other hand, when you want to buy something from the trading post, don’t just type in the item name and buy the first one you see. Instead, place an order for it at a lower price. This makes you one of the “highest buyers”. Luckily for you, there are plenty of people who don’t care to list their items. They’ll just insta-sell to you, the highest buyer. Therefore, you just got your item cheap. Yay.

6. Participate in your guild’s missions, rushes, and bounties. A successful one awards you with 50 silver, in addition to gold items which you can either use, or sell on the trading post for yet more money.

7. In PvE, do the events which pop up. The silver rewards for them do add up.
8. Consider dungeon runs. A dungeon completed in explorer mode offers substantial rewards.

9. Do your dailies and monthlies!

10. Work on your titles. For every 500 title points, you will be awarded with money and prizes.

11. Take advantage of the Living Story updates from day one! Living Stories often add temporary currencies for special items. An example would be the watchwork sprockets from Queen’s Jubilee. During the first few days of the Living Story, people are rushing madly to get these temporary currencies so they can get their item before time runs out. You should save yours up, and sell them on the trading post. Keep in mind though, demand goes down every passing day, so sell fast!

12. Be kind and helpful to everybody. On rare occasions, strangers have sent me small gifts of food or silver for helping them, or just talking with them during events or farming. You can’t expect this sort of thing to happen, but being nice can pay off in more ways than one.

13. Ask about your guild’s policy for the guild bank. Some guilds allow players to take out small amounts of money or items. Use this to your advantage, but for pity’s sake, Do Not Abuse It.

14. Do NOT buy gems lightly. Seriously, nothing is a bigger gold sink. Don’t fall for the cute hats and minipets—it’s a fad you’ll get sick of. After a few weeks, you won’t even remember to take your minipet out, and you’ll realize your animal hat looks terrible. If the gem store comes out with an armor or weapon you absolutely love, and intend to use for years to come, then go ahead. But be wise—the gem store is intent on reducing you to poverty!

I’m not a professional player. I’m more invested in story and adventure, than in being good at battles or getting exclusive titles. The lower “farming” portion of the arena was just fine for me—it provided quick leveling and some gold
I think it’s good that Arenanet is putting out content for players who want a really hard challenge. Things like Liadri, the Fractals, competitive PvP… that stuff is great because it’s there for those who enjoy challenges and exclusive rewards or titles. Meanwhile, more casual players like myself can do our own thing and not worry about it.

Portrayal of Males in Living Story

in Living World

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

It is interesting to note that after reading the OP’s thread the first thing the wife said was "Why is it ok to portray all the females in the game as “battle bunnies” then? Face it in this game or any other females are portrayed sexually while males are portrayed comically. Blame it on the target audience for the game.

All the females? My current guild leader actually has very concealing and not sexualized armor (last I actually saw her main).

If you’re talking NPCs I’m not going to get into that, as I think Ellen Kiel in the Inspector outfit wasn’t very sexualized either.

Edit: Yeah, not really sexual

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/8/89/Inspector_Ellen_Kiel.jpg

Just because you can choose to not wear sexualized armor, doesn’t mean the “battle bunnies” thing isn’t a problem. Although there are covering options, a lot of armors still turn into robes when put on a male, and a bikini when put on a female. Also, consider the female body types. Almost all of them look like plastic catwalk models with fake breasts.
Ellen Kiel wasn’t sexualized, but what about lady kasmiir? or riot alice? or the watch knights?

But, back to the main subject. While I do not think the portrayal of male character personalities is an issue, let’s wait and see. In the coming year, more living story expansions will come out, with many new characters. If, after a year of living stories, all the lead roles were consistently female, and all the males were consistently “Lord Faren” types—then yes, it would be cause for concern. But at this point, the Living Story has hardly begun. A few lead females doesn’t make a trend, and even then—a trend doesn’t always mean discrimination. I’m sure Arenanet will put out a fascinating cast of characters—good and bad, male and female, weak and strong, leader and follower.

That said, the Black Citadel is kind of an unofficial capital—although it’s ruled by Iron Legion, many Blood and Ash operations are carried out there, and Blood/Ash warbands have permanent stations there. Plus, it’s the capital with all the interracial travel. The Blood and Ash citadels are probably still exclusively charr at this point—aside from the norn mercenary or sylvari traveler perhaps.

I remember that! I was ready to explode with joy at the prospect of playing Guild Wars 2 for the first time, and then that screen popped up and I completely lost my mind. It was glorious! I would love to see that come back.

Oh, wow. That’s a wonderful story! Scarlet is such an intriguing being. She reflects a desire in all of us… the desire to create, the desire to know, the desire to master. She is so utterly “human” in her visions and impressions, it makes her very relatable and yet starkly different at the same time. The whole story has, at least to me, a deep sort of spirituality which I find admirable. And in the end, I feel bad for Scarlet. She is so smart, but she’s let her pride drive her to think she’s above everything. Her view of the Pale Tree and destiny, while factually accurate, is deeply flawed. I think when she truly sees the light and the darkness she has readily scorned, she’ll come to realize her own folly.
I applaud you, Arenanet. Scarlet is a wonderful character! I love how you’ve twined her actions throughout the entirety of our stories, and I love how you’ve portrayed her as a person with flaws as deep as her intellect.

You have a very active imagination.

Why thank you :P

Let me rephrase this… Thorn hates humans. She murdered the human character and threw her body into one of the Lion’s Arch canals. I really couldn’t do anything to stop her. It is not my fault! lol

See, that’s why I never let my characters see each other. They start arguing, fighting, they get jealous “Why did he get the awesome armour first and not me?” … it just does not stop.

lol most of the time it works out. My main has beaten most of them into line. That human was one of the ones who wasn’t having any of it. As a result, anything that may have happened to her is… well… a consequence of not having the band’s protection. This new character is far more obedient to the main’s will XD.
