Trueye, Outrider, Masquerade, Trickster, and Feathered are nice. You can mix pieces from those sets to get some good-looking light armor charr.

Trueye-From some heart quest vendors
Outrider-Personal story reward
Masquerade and Feathered-Crafted or bought on the trading post
Trickster-Gemstore armor

My charr necromancer below has an Outrider shirt, Masquerade legs, and Sandals.

Personally, I like necromancers. There are a lot of different things you can do with them, and their Death Shroud ability makes it easier to survive.
Guardians are nice, too.
So I’d vote necromancer or guardian.
Mesmers, Engineers, and Elementalists are a pain in the butt to learn and master, so unless you want more of a challenge, I’d avoid them for your first character.

I feel bad for all of you people who have run into harassment and toxic people in the game. I’ve had an encounter or two in Lion’s Arch, but that’s the gathering point for everyone so you’re bound to find a few bumholes in there.
I’ve PvP’ed, run in champ trains, joined dungeon run groups, and done all that stuff. Nobody’s ever been mean to me, or to anyone that I’ve seen.
There’s a dude in WvW who calls everybody noobs in mapchat, but he’s harmless and actually pretty funny. Idk, guess I’ve been lucky.

I’ve tried PvP and I go there to play on occasion. The reason I don’t like it much is that there isn’t enough to do. I wish there were more kinds of PvP—for instance, stuff like the Lunatic Inquisition they have during Halloween. Just fighting for control of points on a little map gets dull after a while—so I wish there were a greater variety of competitive activities in PvP.
Also, I hate how PvP is disconnected from the rest of the game. Having to obtain new PvP armor and weapons and reset my build/traits is irritating.

Yesterday I went afk in WvW. When I came back, an elementalist from an enemy server was attacking me. Baffled, I realized he was doing very little damage—yet he was not an uplevel. So I sat there and watched him for a few seconds without moving. When he came up a little closer, I lunged at him, scared the crap out of him, and killed him. Got a good laugh out of it.

When the Rox horns came out for female charr I was super excited because I had wanted more forward-pointing horns for my warrior. Buying her that new set of horns felt epic.

I got promoted in my guild a few days ago. Yay!

When I saw the preview for the tentacle backpack they released at Southsun. My necromancer is based off a cartoon character—Nergal Junior—who has tentacles growing out of his back. Getting that tentacle backpack for my character was probably my best moment—I never thought I’d get him to look that accurate.

When I killed Gaheron Baelfire!

When I got stuck in a little cage due to an event glitch, with two other players. We stripped our characters naked and had a dance party.

When I got pushed off the edge of the Skyhammer map and fell aaaaaalll the way down, but didn’t die.

When they released the new faces and hairstyles.

Halloween, Halloween, Halloween, Halloween! Mad King Thorn and Prince Thorn were the best

When the game first launched and I was SO EXCITED because I had waited so long.

Scarlet! I don’t care what anyone says, Scarlet is great!

When Flame and Frost released and I realized we were getting more Flame Legion lore. They’re my favorite villians, and my favorite enemies to kill!

The proliferation of those faces plus a handful of… unlikely hairstyles is making most of the female charr I’m seeing with makeover kit faces look like weird anthro things that, compared to the original female charr, look not cute but ridiculous.

We clearly have different ideas of cute.

Let me just think about what most males think about when they consider a female cute, BREASTS, sorry you won’t find any cute charrs if you think like that :o

Why do you assume that, because your charr doesn’t appeal to Ben K, he’s thinking about breasts?
I’m a female player and it’s not my ideal cute either. No offense to you, I just have different tastes—but I’m glad you found a look you love. I like my female charr to look a little more “manly” as you call it.
Honestly, I can see what Voodoo means. While I purchased one of the new female faces and got its features to be something I really liked—he has a point. All the new female faces are cutesy and “sweet-baby-cat” like. Which is a step away from the fierce charr we’ve come to know.

It is harder to find good looking armor for Light-wearing charr, but it isn’t impossible. I have two light armored charr, both of whom I think look pretty decent. Pictures below.

At any rate, my suggestion is, if it’s male, pick one of the slender body types. Females are easier to find nice-looking light armor for, as it sits better on their bodies. For bigger, more muscular males, light armor can conceal their muscles and make them look fat. Of course, if you want a chubby mage, go for it XD
My advise would be the exact opposite for heavy armor wearers. Sometimes, heavy armor can make a thin charr look thin to the point of being cartoonish—so average to hefty bodies do better with heavy.

EDIT: Added a heavy armor charr at the bottom

What’re THE 5 things you love most about GW2?

Weindrasi.3805

1. Female charr. It’s nice to play a female character and never have to worry about chainmail bikinis. For the first time, I can have a character of my own sex and feel empowered instead of degraded.
2. WvW. This one actually surprised me—I never imagined I would like or be interested in WvW, but now I play it far more then anything else.
3. Being able to play multiple races. This is what got me interested in Guild Wars 2 to begin with
4. The female-human goth face. Because I can make a character look like a descendant of the Kurzick people from Guild Wars 1
5. Being able to see what’s become of Ascalon. In GW1, I always wanted to see Ascalon as it recovered from the searing—what the land would look like once it healed. And now I know!

Bangar is the one most likely to kick up trouble – from now-removed information on one of the prerelease charr pages, it’s mentioned that Bangar particularly hates humans and rankles under the treaty. Fortunately, his sphere of influence is such that he can’t overtly act on that without impinging on the jurisdiction of the other Imperators.

That’s really interesting! I hope the Blood Legion homelands open up soon. The characters in my Blood Legion warband would be glad to see the treaty fail once the dragons are out of the way. Nice to know they, and their imperator, see eye-to-eye

It would be nice to see more armor variety, but I disagree on some points. In Guild Wars 1, it was virtually impossible to get a modest or practical set of light female armor. ALL the light armor was sexualized, except for obsidian and ancient—both of which were expensive and hard to get. As for the medium and heavy armor, even the sets that didn’t show a lot of flesh still molded to the shape of the woman’s breasts and butt to sexualize her.
Guild Wars 2 is lacking in armor design—especially medium armor, which is all coats. And yes, I would love to see some Guild Wars 1 armors come back—they were classics. But, as a whole, I would prefer if they put out a good deal of modest/practical armor as well as sexy gear.
Honestly, I think the ideal would be that, of all the new armor they release, 50% is sexy and 50% is not—divided evenly across the classes. And a sexy outfit should be sexy on both genders… none of this 100% covering robes for a man=a string bikini for a woman. If the lady gets the string bikini, her male equivalent needs a codpiece and vise versa.
But yeah, overall, the armor designers need to branch out and incorporate new styles and feels to what they release. I would love to see stuff like the elite tattoo, obsidian, and starter armor for GW1 necromancers. And scar patterns for faces!

I could see them doing something similar to Lion’s Arch, but on a larger scale. They could make it a multi-racial country ruled by a counsel with representatives for each race who participated in retaking Orr, and has an interest in settling. In addition to the five major races, you’d have Quaggan, Skritt, and possibly Ogres and Grawl.
For races that don’t have the numbers or political strength to put forth a representative, but who wish to settle, there could be a “Representative for Minorities” or something. Probably a Sylvari, since they’re the least inclined to be racist.

I doubt the humans and charr would have conflict over Orr. First, since sylvari, norn, and asura have their fingers in the pie, humans and charr don’t have the time to dredge up old squabbles. Second, Queen Jennah and Imperator Smodur are the major power-holders of the two races, and both are pushing for peace. The only ones who could cause problems are Malice and Bangar—the Ash and Blood Imperators, who technically have equal power to Smodur. However, Malice and Bangar are not stupid, and they need to focus on keeping their own borders safe, so I doubt they’d cause a fuss.

Humans will definitely push to get the old religious sites preserved, and the Durmand Priory will back that. This may cause some conflict over how everyone wants to use the land, but since the Priory is multi-racial, I doubt it would become a huge race issue.

Lore-wise this isn’t the case—asura can’t do that. Charr and norn are far faster, stronger, and more lithe then the other races, and asura struggle behind the rest (But this is offset by their intellect)
However, it would be unfair to make an asura player less physically capable then a charr player, so in-game they make them have equal abilities.

Reason GW1 players feel so bleh in my opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

I think you make a good point.
It’s also that the story of GW1 was much more in-depth, much more thought-provoking and dark, and much more mature than the story of GW2. It’s not the story content itself, but rather, the way it’s been handled. GW1’s dark storytelling made you feel invested in what was happening—the emotions of the characters were hauntingly real. GW2 could have been the same, but instead it feels like a comic book or an action movie. The characters don’t feel as authentic as they did in GW1. Back then, you were a mere mortal struggling to make sense of a troubled world. In GW2, it makes you feel too much like a big, strong, comic book superhero. You’re goody-goody all the time, and you know that because you’re so good and holy, it’ll all end well. And that’s bad for getting players invested in a story.

Albane Memorykeeper was born on the Ascalonian plains. Her mother was a gladium and a loner, who preferred to roam the wilds and keep her own company. She became pregnant with Albane after a brief encounter with an Iron Legion soldier, whose life she saved. By the time Albane arrived, her father was long gone, back to his warband in the Black Citadel.

Albane grew up a nomad, roaming with her mother. Her mother, an elementalist, taught her magic to help her hunt and survive. Her childhood was an odd one—she befriended spirits of the wind, earth, fire and water. Like her mother, she took well to solitary life.

When Albane was in her teens, a strange soldier appeared on the plains. It was her father, and he had come to take Albane to the Black Citadel. “It isn’t right, that you should raise our cub out here. She belongs in the fahrar—in service to the Legions. No child of mine will be called a Gladium, and I have come to ensure that.” He said.

Albane’s mother came to agree with him, and she allowed Albane to be taken. Albane was very old to be joining a fahrar—at fifteen, she was nearly a decade late. However, she was a strong fighter, and with her magic she could match the other cubs in combat—her mother had taught her well. So, in spite of her oddness, she fit in with her fahrar mates well enough, and took to Citadel life without much trouble.

Albane had to keep some parts of herself a secret. She had inherited her mother’s reverence for spirits, and other religious traits which were alien to most charr. She knew she was different, but she didn’t mind it. She had a sharp mind, and was curious to see how her people lived—to be a part of something new. When her fahrar graduated, and became an Iron Legion warband, she took her title happily.

Years of harsh warfare, however, decimated the warband. Albane lost her fellow soldiers one by one, and became all too familiar with grief. She had always been a stable creature, however. She had a certain peace about her—and so she dealt with her grief, healed, and moved on—even when her last bandmate died and left her a gladium. She was not bitter for her loss, and when she was ready, she began to hunt for a new warband eagerly.

Although Albane was fond of the Iron Legion, she did not have the Legion-loyalty of most charr. She thought it would be interesting to join a different Legion, and experience a new culture. The dauntless ferocity of the Blood Legion had always intrigued her—so she sought out a Blood Legion warband. Unfortunately, her curiosity was her undoing.

Albane had heard tales of Gore Warband’s success, and of their prodigy-Centurion Nyoka Gorefell. No normal gladium would have dared aspire to such a warband, but Albane was no normal gladium. She sought Nyoka out, and proved her skill to the young Centurion. too blind by her own curiosity to see the shadow behind Nyoka’s eyes. She was permitted to join Gore Warband, and only then, did Albane begin to see her mistake.

Gore Warband was not just dauntless and fierce, they were evil. Led by Nyoka’s merciless will, Gore ran wild—conquering their enemies. They took many prisoners—not just foes on the battlefield, but animals and gladium—using them for torture and blood sport. The soldiers obeyed Nyoka with slavelike devotion—most of them too stupid or too blood-crazed to question their leader’s vileness. The Legions overlooked this—blind to Gore’s wickedness. They only saw the warband’s success on the battlefield.

Albane could not bear to be with Gore, but if she deserted, it would be treason. She had fallen under Nyoka’s heel, and if she tried to escape, she knew the wicked Centurion would crush her. With a word, Centurion Gorefell could brand her a traitor to the Legions—setting Blood, Iron, and Ash against her. But even death, or exile by her people, would be preferable to staying and being a part of Gore Warband’s sadism. So Albane ran.

As she suspected, Albane was branded a traitor, and a ransom was put on her head. After fleeing the citadel, she sought her mother out, hoping her mother would be able to help her. Her mother warned her that she had to leave Ascalon. If she remained, she would eventually be killed. Now, Albane wanders Tyria, trying to make the best of her exile. Yet, she is not unhappy. She has the entire world to explore.

Tionvrath was the first son of Dalgarn Flameveiled, a high-ranking Shaman of the Flame Legion. He was born to his father’s female slave, along with a twin sister. Even before Tionvrath was weaned, his father started to teach him battle skills and Shaman’s magic. He had no intention of sending Tionvrath to the fahrar—he decided to raise Tionvrath as his heir and second-in-command.
However, Tionvrath’s father was brutal and merciless—his lessons were harsh, and filled with physical abuse. Tionvrath grew up both terrified of his father, and desperate to please him. Tionvrath took out anger from his abuse on the fahrar cubs he could never join, and got away with it because of his father’s high rank. However, he was starved for companionship, and eventually looked to his sister for it.
Tionvrath knew what all Flame Legion males knew—that females were inferior beings. He knew his sister was a slave. He knew that, if his father found out he interacted with her, he would be punished. But he went to her anyway. After all, he reasoned, what harm could come of confiding in a lowly female? Eventually, he confided too much in her… he showed her the Shaman magics reserved only for men—and was caught by his father.
Tionvrath’s father castrated him for his actions, and disowned him. For weeks, he and his sister were caged—set to be executed. Before the execution could occur, an attack came from the Iron Legion. In the chaos, Tionvrath’s sister escaped. He was not so lucky—and in the confusion, he lost consciousness.
When Tionvrath woke, he was in darkness. He thought he was dead—but the reality was far worse. The execution had been only for show. In reality, he, along with many prisoners, had been kept alive. His life essence was regularly drained to provide Godlike power to Flame Legion’s imperator, Gaheron. For seven years, Tionvrath lived this way—a prisoner who existed in unbearable agony, kept always on the brink of death, yet not dead.
During these 7 years, Tionvrath kept a strange mental link to his escaped sister. They say that twins have unusual connections—and this proved true. When pain drove Tionvrath into unconsciousness, he dreamed. In his dreams, he was with his sister. In this way, he knew she was alive, and he watched her train in a Blood Legion fahrar. She, too, was aware of the link—but for a long time, she thought Tionvrath was merely a ghost haunting her mind. But one day, she realized he was still alive.
She rescued him from the darkness. She came, breaking past Flame Legion’s defenses, and against all odds, she broke him free of Gaheron’s dungeons. Yet, Tionvrath would have been better off dead. He had been saved from the Flame Legion, but his sister had grown up to be like their father—and she abuses him relentlessly. Now, he is a shadow—half mad, in service to his sister’s warband. It won’t be long before he finally snaps…

Female Charr gets Male Armour?

in Charr

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

I’d like to point out that this thread starts with the assumption that it’s the MALE version of the armor. Why did you start with that assumption. I think there’s a bit of a “glasses effect” going on with the way you’re viewing the charr armor. As it’s been stated above, according to the GW2 lore, Charr do not consider the difference between genders important.

I believe I read from an interview somewhere that lore-wise, Charr casual-wear would be closer to the male’s loincloth, but they had to add something over the chest in the interest of keeping the T rating. (Take this with a grain of salt, I looked for a bit but couldn’t find my source. If someone else remembers this and knows where it was said, feel free to back it up for me.)

I think OP’s statement really comes down to a disconnect between out-of-game view of gender and clothing, and charr-culture view of gender and clothing.

I remember them saying this as well. I think they could have gotten away with making the female charr topless though. There’s nothing there—no nipples, no pectoral definition, just some fluffy fur. It’s a cat. They stayed on the side of caution, which is fine, but I can’t see any logical person considering fur on a cat to be vulgar.

Female Charr gets Male Armour?

in Charr

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

For them, there’s no such thing as feminine or masculine clothing—just clothing.

I really want to see someone defend this idea while taking into account the fact that charr clearly have a concept of masculine and feminine hairstyles.

I said there’s no such thing as feminine or masculine clothing, not that the charr have done away with feminine or masculine entirely.
Clothing is meant to fit the societal role and position a person holds. Male and female charr hold the same role—soldier. And all soldiers need to be protected just the same. In the real-life military, male and female uniforms are cut differently because male and female humans have different shapes—therefore, uniforms need to conform to those shapes to be the most useful. Charr, however, don’t have much variation in body shape. Charr uniforms are most useful conforming to just one shape—the universal charr shape of both sexes. Therefore, charr armor is unisex—neither male nor female, neither feminine nor masculine.
Charr are unisex in all the areas of life where it is more efficient to be unisex. Both genders fill all societal functions, and wear the armor they need for those functions. Hair, however, is different. It doesn’t matter how a charr expresses his or her hair—that doesn’t make a difference on the battlefield or in society, it’s just a personal preference. If having a certain hairstyle made you a better fighter, then I’m sure all the charr would have that hairstyle, and hair would be unisex too.

Improve report capability for "verbal abuse"

in Suggestions

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

When someone is reported for verbal abuse Anet reviews their chat logs. So there really isn’t a need to add additional descriptors. If the person reported has violated the ToS as evidenced by their chat log they will be dealt with accordingly by Anet via suspensions or possible account termination.

Ah. In that case, you’re correct. I wasn’t certain how the reports were handled.

As for those of you who claim that one should just ignore people who say foul things—I disagree. Games, like guild wars 2, should provide a safe and positive environment for the diverse peoples who play them. Vulnerable groups—women, racial minorities, and so-on, already have to deal with discrimination in daily life. Ideally, an online game should provide an escape from the challenges of real life.

I don’t think it’s oppressive to require the community to treat one another with respect. I don’t think it’s oppressive to punish people for disrespect, or verbal abuse. There are plenty of private ways—whisper, party chat, or guild chat—for people to talk about whatever they want. But when a person is speaking in map chat, they have to consider that their audience goes beyond just their friends. Those who have been victims of abuse or discrimination, and hear similar abuse in chat, can be hurt. Blocking and ignoring is fine, but these people should feel that they are protected—that the community is, for them as well as everyone, an escape.

Improve report capability for "verbal abuse"

in Suggestions

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

Thankfully, I have not encountered much verbal abuse in the Guild Wars community. However, I have had some pretty vile encounters. I feel like the report option for verbal abuse is lacking. Verbal abuse comes in many forms, and I feel like we need to have the ability to specify WHY we are reporting someone for this, and what kind of abuse they are engaging in.
For example, today a group of players in Lion’s Arch were saying very vile, sexist things about women. When people politely asked them to either stop or take their conversation to a more private chat (Whisper or Party for instance), they refused, insulted those who asked them to quit, and continued.
I reported these people, but I wish I had been able to provide some detail into the issue. Therefore, I suggest that you add sub-categories after someone selects “verbal abuse” for a report—sexual harassment, sexism, racism, attacking a religious group, profanity, homophobia/transphobia, violent threats, and general harassment. By being able to select one of these, the team who looks at reports would get a little more upfront information.

If YOU could change 7 things about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

1. I would change the sexist portrayal of female armor. An armor set would look the same on men and women—full body plate on a man would be full body plate on a woman. A bikini on a woman would be a codpiece on a man. I wouldn’t exclude sexy gear, but I would make it equal.

2. I would completely revamp the human character creation. I would remove the anime-style bodies and faces, and replace them with a variety of realistic bodies and faces. Both male and female characters could have a body from skinny to chubby, scrawny to body-builder, and youthful to aged. While a perfect, airbrushed look would be an OPTION, it would be alongside the option to have flaws, be ugly, be ordinary, be old, be young, or just be different.

3. I would make the personal story more engaging, with more options to develop your character’s individual personality and outlook. I would include options for your character to be morally ambiguous or wicked—without having them go completely over to the dark side.

4. I would direct the Living Story toward the old Guild Wars 1 lore. I would explore the unanswered questions and mysteries left in Guild Wars 1, and work towards opening up the areas of the map which are currently inaccessible.

5. I would make certain that each armor fits each race correctly, before releasing it. The charr would NOT have clipping issues. The asura would NOT have to try so hard to find a good-looking outfit. The sylvari would have more plant-themed choices.

6. Thieves would not be called thieves, because that’s a stupid name.

7. Redo the Edge of Destiny story so that Logan isn’t portrayed as such a loathsome blockhead, and so he maybe has some redeeming features.

However, Thorn’s mother was stopped and killed by her own warband before she could escape. Thorn was taken to the fahrar, but she never forgot the bitterness and horror of watching her mother shot down. She blamed her pain on the alliance and the humans—and grew to hate them as her mother had.
In the Iron Legion fahrar, Thorn grew to be a talented Engineer. She was always distant toward the other cubs, and was often angry, but she fit in well enough. They admired her talents and avoided her temper.
Thorn’s anti-human sentiments were well-known by her warband, but even they didn’t know how deep the hatred went. They were shocked to discover, a few years after they graduated the fahrar, that she’d been consorting with Renegades. Unlike her mother, Thorn was lucky. Since her Legionnaire felt affection for her, he spared her life and banished her to live as a Gladium.
After she was banished from the Iron Legion, Thorn came to hate them almost as much as she hated humans. She saw Iron Legion as weak and foolish—lead by a weak and foolish Imperator. She swore to never again use her Engineering talents for their benefit, and made plans to leave and join the Renegades—once things had calmed down and she could do it without notice.
However, before Thorn went to the Renegades, Nyoka Gorefell found her. Nyoka, a renowned Blood Legion Centurion, offered Thorn a place in her warband. In private, Nyoka promised Thorn that—in return for her support—Nyoka would work towards eliminating the humans once she gained more power. As a show of goodwill, Nyoka gave Thorn a human prisoner to kill as she saw fit. This convinced Thorn, and after torturing the prisoner under Nyoka’s watchful eye, Thorn pledged her loyalty to Gore Warband.
Under Nyoka’s careful teachings, Thorn has learned to control her anger and hide her true feelings toward humans. She is the head of Nyoka’s separatist-hunting detachment, and she relishes the job. However, she looks forward to the day when Nyoka rises to Imperator, and the true human-hunt begins.

Nyoka, and her twin brother Tionvrath, were born to the female slave of a high-ranking Flame Legion Shaman. Prior to Nyoka and Tionvrath, the slave had borne only daughters. In fury, the shaman had killed them all. But, because Nyoka’s twin was the male cub the Shaman wanted, she was allowed to live.
Nyoka grew up a slave, like her mother. Her mother did not want her, and ignored her. As she grew to adolescence, males began to notice her, and she was sexually molested. She grew up with no comprehension of kindness or mercy—except, perhaps, from her brother. Her brother confided in her—believing that no harm could come of telling things to a mere female. But slowly, he began to confide too much. He told her of the lessons their father gave him in Shaman’s magic—and was caught in the act.
Speaking of Shaman’s magic to a female was blasphemy. Nyoka and her brother were tortured—and set to be executed in Gaheron’s name—as punishment for their sin. But the execution ritual drew undue attention—and the Flame Shamans were attacked by an Iron Legion assault force. In the confusion, Nyoka escaped into the wilderness—where she nearly died of severe injuries and starvation. She was found by a Blood Legion scouting party—and ultimately brought to the Blood Citadel for recovery.
When Nyoka was well, she was placed in a Blood Legion fahrar. She was 13 at the time. Her fahrar mates already had years of battle experience, and had formed bonds. She was outcast. The other fahrar cubs took to hazing her with beatings and mockery—until one day she stole a cat that belonged to another cub, and tortured it to death. When the cub came for revenge, she snapped, turned on him, and gouged out his eyes before the Primus could stop her. Because she was a child, the assault was overlooked.
From that day, the other cubs treated Nyoka with a fearful respect. She trained hard, and she grew. She grew, and grew, and grew—until she was the largest cub in the fahrar. As she reached young adulthood, she became larger then even most males, and frighteningly strong. She became a warrior, and she took command of her warband by killing her competitors. She called it Gore Warband—her surname, Gorefell.
Nyoka’s mind, however, was broken. Although she was fiercely intelligent, an essential part was missing. Nyoka could feel no emotion—no love, no mercy, no care for others. Her terrible childhood had made her a monster, and a sadist. Once she graduated the fahrar, she advanced quickly in the military—becoming the youngest Centurion ever known at 19. Because of her success, and brilliance as a commander, others turned a blind eye to her more sinister aspects. As she was once tortured and rapd, now she too, is torturer and r a p s t. And her ambitions are high. One day, Nyoka Gorefell intends to become the Blood Legion Imperator—and then, once she has slaughtered the Flame Legion and driven the humans out of Ascalon —she will aim to be Khan Ur.

Generally, I write good characters or neutral characters, so Nyoka Gorefell was a fun way to create a villain character. I’ve created a few of her warbandmates as alts—most of whom are also quite sinister.

Female Charr gets Male Armour?

in Charr

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

To be honest, many female Charr might not want to be seen in “feminine” attire. Seeing as they relatively recently won back their place on the battlefield, appearing as equal to the males as possible might be appealing.

The female charr regained their rights over 200 years ago. By comparison, women in the united states gained the right to vote in 1920—just 93 years ago, and still had to fight for equality for decades afterward. (Which in some areas, they still don’t have)
So my guess would be that the charr are much much more advanced in terms of gender equality then anyplace in the real world. For them, there’s no such thing as feminine or masculine clothing—just clothing. If the females were trying to avoid being feminine, that would suggest that charr society still sees “female” as “inferior”.
From the charr viewpoint, the females are not wearing “male armor”—the armor has no gender. From our viewpoint outside the game, female charr have the male model of armor—but that’s only to help portray the advanced gender equality in the charr society.

Did you buy one of the new faces for your character? Then post it!

Is that a male or a female? :o

Well as the other people already determined, she’s female. Facially, females usually have sharp features (males are rounded), and a slender lower jaw. Their bodies are a lot slimmer, and of course, they have fluffy tails.

Just look at this face

I like it. It looks appropriately charr. Yes, charr are cat-like, but they aren’t actual cats. Arenanet described them more as demons, with cat traits. As such, that gives them room to stray from the traditional “feline” appearances.
Masculine charr faces are very heavy, with round edges. Feminine charr faces are sharp, with more triangular edges. The faces in this patch adhere to that standard. That said, I’m sure we’ll see more androgynous faces added too—in which case you’d get a more traditionally “cat-like” male.

New body appearances?...discuss

I think it would be nice to see some more body shape variety. For instance, most female charr have slender necks, but there are two body types that have thick necks like the male.
Males, on the other hand, all have very thick necks. I would like a male body with a thinner neck—more like the default female.

Beyond that, scars would be great. I’d love the ability to add scars or disfigurements from battle to the body and face of a charr—without actually having to pick a different body/face

The new face I chose has a very prominent brow, which clips slightly with her hood. It’s not bad enough to bother me, but hopefully errors like this will be fixed.

Leaving for 2 Years

So… You make this thread about you leaving for 2 years but don’t share with us where are you going? How rude >:-/

Haha, I actually don’t know where I’m going yet. It’s for church business so I could be sent anywhere in the world. And the technology I mentioned is because the church has strict rules on when/where/why I can use technology. I’m hoping I’ll be sent to Africa or somewhere in Europe.

Rules about usage of technology… still at war with science, huh?

LOL, I honestly cannot take any religion seriously if they start restricting the use of technology being the art of evil.

But if thats what he wishes to do and thats his beliefs, he can live miserably for the next 2 years.

Such ignorance. The guy says he’s going on church business and that technology use will be restricted—and you automatically assume it’s because “oh religious people think technology is evil”
Technology is restricted because he’s supposed to be doing productive things, instead of playing computer games and wasting time on the interwebs—DUH!
It’s the same as cell phones being banned in a classroom—it’s meant to help him avoid distractions.
And if you think spending 2 years helping and doing service for other people—instead of gaming—is a miserable waste of time… I suggest you check your own priorities.

P.S. But this is only good new face imo.

Yes but those eyes look far more natural than Rox’s. If Rox had been designed like that, it would have been cool

Guys… maybe I’m going mad but… don’t the new charr faces look like some of those in this thread? I swear, the first new female facial option looks almost exactly like my second sketch submission, of the single female head. Even the little forehead spikes are there—just where I put them, and the muzzle looks similar. And the lynx face looks like the one Chebits drew. If arenanet is using this thread for inspiration, that’s super cool.

Also, a Scarlet. I like her.

New player, which server to pick?

It depends on what you want to do. If you’re PvE only, any server will be fine. If you roleplay, Tarnished Coast. If you WvW, I suggest Borlis Pass because we’re awesome.
