What new hairstyles/faces do you want to see?

It has been a while since Arenanet released a new batch of additional hair and facial options for our characters. What hair and face options would you like to see in future releases?

Me?
1. I want hair options that aren’t so shiny. Nearly all the hair additions so far have been as shiny as a woman selling shampoo in a magazine. This shine looks particularly strange on the charr and norn… photo-shopped salon hair just doesn’t fit them.
2. I want scarred and mangled faces. In Guild Wars 1 Nightfall, you could choose a face that was missing an eye—all you saw was the empty eye socket and the scar tissue around it. That was my favorite face! I’d love to see more gruesome options like that one—especially for all humans, and especially for norn females.

Hey, it just occurred to me — maybe, just maybe, in the next chapter we can play as Phlunt! Wouldn’t that be grand!

Especially if Phlunt, as an outspoken opponent of the Inquest, was against experimenting on the sylvari and tried to stop it, but got shot down (perhaps literally!) by Vorpp. Maybe afterward, Phlunt took it upon himself to seek out the source of the sylvari and after many madcap adventures along the way, tracked them back to the Grove, where, after being subjected to rigorous (and hostile) questioning, he finally gained an audience with the Pale Tree and impressed her with his compassion and atypical asura wisdom.

What a fun NPC-play session that would be!

I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic, but I actually love this idea.

Way back in guild wars 1, my main was Nergal Junior (from The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy). Luckily, the name-reservation system kept it on hold for me, so Nergal Junior is once again my character.
By the time I got around to making my Scarlet Briar lookalike, a lot of people had already thought of it, so the name and common variations were taken. Did some research on how to insert accent letters, and put an accent on the c. Apparently that changes the pronunciation to “Ssarlet Briar,” but it’s close enough for me.

I wish my female charr warrior had defined six pack abs—she’s meant to be a huge behemoth muscle monster

I wish my male charr necromancer did not have six pack abs—he’s meant to be a sickly death mage who can only keep his emaciated body alive by sucking the life force of others. (I wish I could transplant the necro’s abs onto the warrior)

I wish our characters could be more grey area or outright evil. Half of my characters are bad guys—I wish I could reflect that in game.

I wish my young human mage, who is 14 years old, with a child’s body/face, didn’t have a weird deep-throated man voice. I wish my charr necromancer had a sickly death-rattle instead of a deep man voice too. I wish my female charr warrior sounded cold and ruthless instead of noble…. basically I wish we had voice options.

I wish my human female, who uses the “goth girl” face (based on the Kurzick ethnicity from GW1), didn’t have runny eye makeup. No traditional-and-proper Kurzick would be that messy!

I wish the Largos were more believable as a deep-sea race. Human like bodies and hair, and supermodel breasts on the females, are not things you’d expect from something that lives in the dark depths of the ocean.

I wish GW2 had a hero system like GW1 where you could pick one of your alt characters to follow and help your main as a companion.

I hate crafting and I will never, ever, ever, ever craft. I will never get ascended armor. Yet, I just can’t delete my ascended mats. I have thousands and thousands of them. What if, one day, there’s another way to spend them?

None of the Legendary Weapons interest me even remotely… they all look blah

I am obsessed with dyes and will buy all of them, even though I will never use most of them.

I LOVE SCARLET BRIAR, AND I MISS HER! R.I.P

I get annoyed when people make a female charr, and give it the Rox horns at max size, but then give it a skinny neck and a skinny body. Can they not see how physically impossible it looks? Those horns would snap that charr’s little neck and make it incapable of moving. If ppl want max size Rox horns, they need to make the charr’s body and neck thick to compensate…

Personally, I’m glad it wasn’t Phlunt. Guild Wars 2 already has a problem with casting its characters as black and white—there’s not much grey area. If every nice & pleasant character were good, and every unpleasant character were actually a secret bad guy…that would be pretty silly.
Honestly, a lot of regular asura aren’t that different from inquest. For instance, there’s an asura in—I think it’s Timberline Falls—who forcibly captures ettins and does cruel experiments on them with no consideration of ethics. Most asura treat skritt and hylek just as badly. They’ll even experiment on other asura… it’s just the inquest take “experiment on other asura” to a greater extreme.
Experimenting on unwilling sylvari isn’t just an inquest thing—a lot of non-inquest, who consider themselves morally superior to the inquest—would still do it without qualms.

Inquest-Chaotic evil & lawful evil

I am sick and tired of being a goodie two shoes all the time.

I do want to be a villain. Very, very much. Playing Caithe and getting to commit villainous acts… even unwillingly on Caithe’s part… was a wonderful change of pace. Finally some bad areas. Finally some grey area.

Please don't make us be 'bad guys' again

I completely disagree. I LOVED playing the villain for once. I like having characters all across the board—from unrepentantly evil to goodie-two-shoes. I have been frustrated since the beginning that my “evil” characters have been forced into a “goodie-two-shoes” role for the length of the personal and living story.
Slaughtering that centaur village was a shock at first. I’d become mind-numbingly used to playing the good guy. But then it was… glorious. Liberating. Malicious and heartless and fun! Please, Arenanet, let us play the evil role more often!

OP, I completely and totally disagree. I like my characters, but I get to play them 99.9999999999999% of the time.
I found this segment of the living story interesting and highly enjoyable. It has been my favorite so far—my only disappointment was it was too short.
I loved being able to see the beginnings of Caithe, Faolin, and other important sylvari characters—the firstborn, Ceara (Scarlet), early nightmare court…. and I really enjoyed being able to play a “villain” role in slaughtering that centaur village.
Honestly, the vitriol some people are spewing at having to play an npc, ONE TIME, in the over-two-years the game has been out, for a very short period…. that just isn’t logical.

Nazza Goremonger was born a renegade. Her parents, both deserters, had relations while among the renegades, and she was born in one of their camps.
As a cub, the renegades put her to work as a spy, saboteur, and thief. Her small size and young age put her beneath adult suspicion—no one really expected a little kid to be working with terrorists.
As Nazza got older, she was given more direct roles in attacks and bombings. She was known for hotheadedness and recklessness, and she forwarded the renegade cause with typical teenage passion .
As an adult, Nazza has cooled somewhat. She maintains her fierce temper to keep renegade underlings under control, but internally she has started to crave more from life. She has no experience with any ideology except the one she was raised with—absolute hatred of humans, and scorn for mainstream charr society. She realizes, however, that she is lacking something. For now, she uses her discontentment to push the renegade cause even further—training would-be terrorists, and orchestrating attacks. She detests the treaty, as she was raised to. If, however, she were forcibly exposed to other viewpoints, who knows?

The problem I have with skimpy armor is that it is so one-sided. The females get sex gear, the males do not. This sends the message that a female is not to be taken seriously, and that she is only an object to arouse males sexually. It’s a big societal problem, and it isn’t okay.

HOWEVER, in the scenario that males and females are BOTH given skimpy armor equally, then yes, skimpy armor is FINE.

So, if Arenanet releases these “bottom-oriented” armors you want, then I insist they go a step further. Release unisex armor that flashes the backside of MALE CHARACTERS and female characters.

My female Charr is the goofiest yet most endearing character in my account.

You seem quite mentally and emotionally disturbed by Charrs. I’m sorry that you are permanently traumatized by them. On the other hand, I’m not as big of a fan of masculine, testosterone-filled, cross-dressing females as you are. Those are frightening!

In a game that promotes vanity, it’s disappointing that Char and Asura females were left out of this design.

What mentally and emotionally disturbs me is the fact that people seem to think female must equal cute little darling in a dress. If it’s not primped up and adorable, it’s a “masculine, testosterone-filled cross-dresser” and therefore, somehow less female.

Female is your biology, it has nothing to do with what you wear. I don’t need or want my characters to be stuffed into unflattering dresses, in order to know they’re women.

This set is ridiculous and I will not be buying it.
For one, it completely removes charr tails. WHY? Even the horrendous clipping issues these outfits are notorious for were better then completely removing the tail.
Furthermore, I am sick and tired of “sex” gear being exclusively tied to female characters. No, I do not want my female character to look like a prostitute. No, I do not appreciate the inherent degradation and disrespect towards women that it shows, to only offer objectifying gear for female characters, and not for male characters.
Definitely not impressed.

Did you even look at the male version or did you just glance at the female one and start typing?

A bare-chested male is not the equivalent of a bare-chested, or even partially bare-chested, female.
The female breasts are sexualized to a degree that the male chest is not. A more likely male equivalent to this would be his junk almost sticking out. Which it is not.

Really? Maybe not to the same extent but I guarantee a handsome bare chested man is indeed sexualized. (If he wasn’t being sexualized for the female gaze, he would be covered up).

The difference is that the female gaze is not all-encompassing to a male’s identity. Ugly or handsome, sexy or not, a man is still afforded a certain respect by society—and still has respect for himself. Women’s worth, on the other hand, is tied directly to their appearance, and to whether males “approve” of that appearance. Tellingly, most women base their self-concept and self-respect, to some degree, on the male gaze.

The male gaze and the female gaze -SHOULD- have equal effect for both sexes. In a perfect world, they would. But it isn’t a perfect world, nor an equal one. I’m not saying that males aren’t sexualized—they are. What I am saying, is that females are objectified as “things for sex” in a way that males, sexualized or not, aren’t. And that is apparent in the gender disparity between male and female armor—how much is covered, and what is covered.

I am getting so sick of people like you who try to force your views on other people. If you do not like it, fine, DO NOT BUY IT, problem solved. It is merely an outfit, not an epicly stat armor set.

Also, this is hardly “sex gear”. You must be incredibly prudish when you go to the pool and see one piece swim wear that is more revealing than this outfit.

And I am in no way disrespected or degraded by this. I am however very disrespected by your attitude with you thinking you know best. I am glad I don’t know you in real because you come across as someone who is extraordinarily judgemental and controlling.

Why are you getting illogically angry? I gave my opinion. It is in no way hurting you.

Let me expand on that opinion. I do not think that “sexy” female armor needs to be completely removed. However, it cannot be denied that females get almost all the sex gear, in almost all games, while the males are fully covered and/or unsexualized. This sends the message that men should be taken seriously, while women are no more than sex objects to arouse male players. It also sends the message that female players are not important, and not as worthy of consideration. How do we fix this? Simple. By making the armors gender equal. Modest man=Modest woman. “Sexy” woman=“Sexy man”

This isn’t just a problem in games. Media everywhere strips women down to near nudity. While there is nothing wrong with nudity in itself, there IS a problem with likening a living, feeling group of people to objects. Doing so affects the group in very negative ways. For example, little girls are engaging in increasingly risky behavior, and are more prone to developing eating disorders, because they are taught that, to be valuable, they must “be sexy”

I am neither judgmental nor controlling. However, I do take issue with gender inequality.
Furthermore, giving Arenanet feedback, including complaints, is not being a “whiny brat.”

But that’s what I don’t get. What’s bad about it? There’s nothing obscene or inappropriate about charr and asura females being topless.
Personally, I think the Raiment is much more obscene on human females—the way it sexualizes their bodies is far more risqué then charr or asura

6th playable race, what's your top 3 pick?

in Lore

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

Why X race would never work:

Skritt: They are a hive mind. A Skritt hero would be incapable of leaving its home city without being reduced to animal-like intelligence. Unless they are in massive numbers, skritt have the attention spans and logic of toddlers. A lone hero has to be a focused, logical problem-solver.

The skritt don’t actually have a hive mind. Their percieved increase in intelligence is a highspeed communication among all present skritt. So they look at a situation from many different angles. But we have lone heroic skritt wandering the world, doing ust fine.

Hylek: In Arenanet’s book, “The Making of Guild Wars 2”, it is specifically stated that Hylek were designed as “a race not intended to be playable”. They don’t have enough body shape or feature variety, there is absolutely zero gender dimorphism between them, and shaping clothing to their figure would be a nightmare.

All of this is also true of the charr, initially. So while a-net may well keep hyleck unplayable, none of these are reasons why this race could never work.

Lone skritt may be capable of being heroic, but they do need to be directed by somebody—you don’t see any skritt in leadership positions. I still don’t think a lone skritt, however heroic, is capable of doing some of the things our characters have been required to do. Co-command the pact, lead interracial armies and make logical tactical decisions in a war, gain the allegiance of mistrustful groups, ect.
Being a hero is one thing, being a good leader is something more.
The charr are precisely one of the reasons Hylek won’t make it as playable. The charr suffer extreme clipping and stretching issues with much of the armor—even though they were chosen to be playable before that armor was made. If Arenanet didn’t bother to make the armor to accommodate beast-races in the first place, why would they go back and edit each and every piece just for Hylek? Because, for Hylek to work, that’s exactly what Arenanet would have to do.

6th playable race, what's your top 3 pick?

in Lore

Posted by: Weindrasi.3805

Weindrasi.3805

Why X race would never work:
Dwarves: They all turned to stone, according to the lore. Over time, there was no way for them to resist it, so none of them could have remained in fleshy form. Since a bunch of rocks can’t breed, there are no new Dwarves being made, and since they are fighting a dragon, they’ve been dying off rapidly for 250 years. There are probably only a few left.
Skritt: They are a hive mind. A Skritt hero would be incapable of leaving its home city without being reduced to animal-like intelligence. Unless they are in massive numbers, skritt have the attention spans and logic of toddlers. A lone hero has to be a focused, logical problem-solver.
Quaggan: They have the exact same problems as the Hylek.
Kodan: While their society is complex enough for a playable race, variety would be an issue. Kodan all look exactly the same. White bears, and more white bears. The Claw has painted fur, but underneath it you have another lookalike. At least the hylek and quaggan come in different colors.
Naga: Appearance issues: how will the clothing be fitted to a snake? How does a snake do jumping puzzles?
Centaurs: Same as Naga, the clothing problem… and how do centaurs swim?
Undead: That isn’t a race, that’s a medical condition. “Undead” can encompass the living corpses of Everything, which is precisely why it won’t work.

We’re left with Tengu and Largos. And even they are doomed to have tons of wardrobe problems, because a-net probably wouldn’t make accommodations for largos wings or tengu bodies. Hello, more clipping!

Abusing those prisoners is wrong. Whether or not they deserve it doesn’t matter. Abuse is abuse. Luckily for us, there are alternative ways of fill the heart requirements.

In Jory’s case, she paid for her mistake by losing her sister in LS2: Episode 2. In that episode, Mordremoth gets revenge by choking Jory’s sibling to death. It’s only a matter of time before the Charr Legions pay for their abuses.

In the first statement, you say that abuse is abuse, and that it shouldn’t happen even if somebody “deserves” it. In the second statement, you justify Jory’s personal tragedy because, in essence, she deserved it for her crudeness. That’s pretty contradictory.

At any rate, I can agree with the rest of what you said, and yes—it would be an issue if there weren’t multiple ways you could carry out the heart quest.

First off, this is just a reflection of charr culture. It’s a military culture of vicious flesh-eating hell cats. They are a harsh race with harsh laws. Disobedient soldiers are lucky to be sent to the mines—they can also be executed by being forced to fight to death in gladiator arenas, or they can be banished as gladium, forever outcast in society. Personally, of those three, I’d take the mines option.
Also, you don’t have to whip the prisoners. There is also the option to help them mine ore, and to refine the ore into iron. The helping option and the refinement option will let you finish the heart just as easily as the whipping option.

The societies of the races aren’t meant to be goody-goody moral beacons. They’re meant to represent realistic societies, which means they have corruption and other issues.

The humans have a law that, if somebody wrongs you, you can fight them to the death. Whoever dies is wrong, whoever lives is right, no questions asked. In the personal story, your noble PC chooses this option over having a trial in court because the PC realizes his side will lose a trial. So, the PC just kills off the opposing noble. Problem solved.

Among the asura, scientific experiments are frequently conducted on sentient beings without their consent. Races that the asura deem “inferior”, like skritt, ettins, and so-on, are experimented on without much concern for their well being. This is true of inquest, and of regular asuran society. The only difference between the two is that inquest will experiment on their own people.

For the Norn, they have no organized government. They gather for trade and other exchange in Hoelbrak, but the Norn live on the concept of “you can do whatever you want”. A norn could slaughter a grawl tribe, or become a murdering pirate, or do any number of morally questionable things “for glory”, without any consequences. In fact, their society would praise them.

And lastly, the Lettuces. Honestly, the Lettuces are probably the most moral of the bunch. However, they still have the Nightmare Court, who torture and murder countless innocents.

The point of all this is that, when it comes to morality, nobody in this game gets away clean.

What Halloween & Winterday skins do you want?

in Living World

Halloween is right around the corner, and Arenanet will be implementing the Halloween update very soon. So, what Halloween skins do you want to see, in terms of armor, weapons, and outfits?
Personally, I want some Halloween facial gear—perhaps a mask that makes your face look rotten, like a Risen. Or a mask that makes your face monstrous, giving you multiple eyes or twisted features.

For Wintersday, I’d love to see a shoulder armor skin that is a winter scarf.

What are your Halloween and Wintersday wants?

What made you decide to play as a Charr?

I am a Guild Wars 1 veteran, and from the moment I heard charr would be playable in GW2, I was hooked. Charr were the original bad guys, and Pyre Fierceshot from Eye of the North really built upon them.
What convinced me even further were the females. I’m a female player, and there’s only so much sexism and degradation of women as sex objects, that I can stand in a video game. The charr women, totally un-sexualized, realistic, and with equal armor to the males, were just the sort of escapism I needed. Additionally, their lore drew me in—they had to fight for gender equality.
Currently, I have 4 charr females, and 2 males. I’ve dabbled with the other races, but most of my characters are charr.

Mesmers & Relationships

in Lore

Well, mesmers can make themselves look like anybody or anything.
They can influence the mind to make a partner really aroused—the magic could be used as an aphrodisiac.
They can probably also influence the mind to get you feeling really high… and from what I hear, doing the dirty while high is a lot of fun.
They can make clones.
They can create an environmental illusion. Romantic island? Luxurious bed? A little magic, and you’re as good as there.
They can walk around naked, and nobody will know
Honestly, the sexual possibilities with mesmer magic are just about limitless. I’m sure both mesmers and their partners take great pleasure in the fact.

Charr Mesmers

I could imagine charr mesmers being way more discriminated against then other charr magic users.
The charr view magic users as deceptive already, and they hate being tricked. A magic user whose entire profession is based on deception and illusion? To a traditional charr, the very thought is probably disgusting.
Also, necromancer and elementalist magic is more easily understandable. Necromancers draw on death and disease, things that charr are very familiar with already. Elementalists draw on nature—earth, air, water, fire—things that charr interact with every day. But mesmers draw on chaos… and that is very different.
That said, charr society has always been open to anyone who makes themself useful, so a War-Mesmer, placed beside more open-minded soldiers, could be a great asset and even respected.

Help choosing a warband name

Thanks everyone for the help.

After A LOT of thinking, i ended up coming up with the word Crimson as a warband name and i’m really happy with it. It’s one of the shades of the color red, so i found it to be both fitting and elegant (the warband will have only females).

I need something that will fit for a mesmer ( i came up with Crimsonshield for guard, Crimsonblade for war, Crimsonspell for ele/necro but i can’t come up with anything for a mesmer)

what do you think?

Perhaps…. Crimsonsight, Crimsonsoul, Crimsongem, Crimsonchaos, Crimsonmyth

I think this is a grand idea, and I’ve done it with my own charr. I decided on the surname “Gore” for my Blood warband.

Nyoka Gorefell
Tionvrath Gorefall
Sezra Gorescourge
Thorn Gorecrow
Raigra Gorebutcher

At any rate… I suggest you think up a bunch of potential surnames, write them all down, and give yourself a week to think about it and play with combinations. It took me a long time to finally decide on Gore Warband, but that surname just felt right. Finding the “right” surname is incredibly satisfying.

For soft names… Faith, Hope, Proud, Light, Star, Hearth, Warm, Breeze, Summer… just off the top of my head.
For faith… hmm
A heavy could be “Faithsteel”, “Faithshield”, “Faithbreaker”, “Faithstrike”, ECT.
A medium… “Faithwarden”, “Faithcaller”, “Faithseeker”, “Faithcraft”, ECT.
A light… “Faithflame”, “Faithwraith”, “Faithblight”, “Faithstar”, ECT.

Will the imperator be Khan?

in Charr

Weindrasi.3805

Well we know that the iron legion imperator has the crown of the khan but his problem is that he has to prove that he deserves that title with a great feat. Eliminating the ghosts will have been a great feat but it did not happen. With the legions being at peace with all major races he can not prove himself in battle.
So what feat do you all think the iron legion imperator has to accomplish so he can become a khan?
My opinion he and his legion kills the elder dragon that created the dragonbrand.

Smodur has the *claw of the khan ur (not the crown). At any rate, that is a potent symbol of power.
However, even if eliminating the ghosts had been successful, it wouldn’t be so simple. Rytlock Brimstone would have been the one to do it—and Rytlock is in Blood Legion. Rytlock could easily have claimed that victory for Blood Legion, and the Blood Imperator could have used it to make Smodur look bad. (It’s Iron territory, yet Blood solved the problem—therefore, Blood should get the Khan-Urship)
Iron Legion has been the most openly involved with inter-racial affairs, because Ascalon is the territory nearest to other nations. However, that doesn’t mean that Iron Legion has the most military strength. We don’t know enough yet about Blood Legion and Ash Legion territory—or Blood and Ash Imperators—to determine that. Iron is spending a lot of its resources on fighting wars—against Flame Legion, Ghosts, Ogres, Separatists, and Kralkatorrik. That is very draining, and if Blood and Ash aren’t being drained the same way, they may be significantly stronger when the time comes for a Khan Ur to rise.
If Iron Legion alone kills Kralkatorrik, that may be enough of a victory for Smodur to become Khan Ur. However, I doubt that will happen. The other races, the Pact, and Blood/Ash legion will definitely be involved in the push against Kralkatorrik—they are just as invested in killing the dragon as Iron Legion is. Also, I doubt Iron Legion alone would be strong enough—again, they’re already fighting multiple fronts.

Map Completion Regression

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Weindrasi.3805

I lose map completion on my characters quite frequently. I will get 100% map completion, and the gifts of exploration, but then a few days later I log back in to find that I lost heart quests, or waypoints, or so-on. For example, today, I lost three heart quests in Plains of Ashford—a map I finished charting long ago. It’s very frustrating. Anyone else experience this?

Why I refuse to buy the Ceremonial Outfit

I am not buying it because I hate the look of it. There.

Don’t worry OP, other people are going to buy it and that is all that matters. I am sure you don’t buy everything in the cash shop, right? and guess what? the show went on.

The point of the thread is to encourage anet to put out better quality. Of course the show will go on, but if it can go on minus clipping issues, all the better. While some people will purchase the outfit, others won’t be able to overlook its problems, and that means less income on anet’s part. Nothing wrong with pushing for better product

Benefits of a guild?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Weindrasi.3805

Benefits:

-Convenient tips. Guild members will often mention when there’s a discount or freebie in the gem store, when world events are starting, and so-on.
-Dungeon running help. If PUGS just aren’t working out, or you can’t find people fast enough through party search, guild mates will often help you out.
-Guild events. Guild rush and the like can earn you good rewards. Also, if you like WvW or PvP, a guild that specializes in those areas can give you many people who share your interest, and who can help you improve.
-Information. If you need help with something, you can ask in guild chat. Usually someone will be able to advise you.
-Social scene

Negatives:

-Negatives usually depend on the guild. Some guilds are full of rude people. Some guilds require a lot of each member, while others are easy going. Some guilds are better organized then others. The key here is finding a guild suited to your needs.

Why I refuse to buy the Ceremonial Outfit

True, the outfits are the lazy way out. With the Assassin outfit and now this, the outfits are even following the “light, medium, heavy” idea appearancewise—but instead of giving us a light, medium, and heavy armorset, we get outfits that aren’t customizable with other pieces.
Now, I like the idea of having non-traditional garb on my characters. Heavy-looking ceremonial for a mage, assassin cloth for a warrior—stuff that’s outside the box. But this is the wrong way of going about it—the lack of customization with outfits, combined with the horrendous clipping of this outfit, seems to show that arenanet doesn’t care about quality at all.
