Hey, everyone. We’ve been reading all your feedback about the Flamekissed Armor Skin that was released into the Gem Store yesterday.

Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.

We will do a few things to address this issue.

• We will temporarily remove Flamekissed Armor Skin from the Gem Store.
• Players who have purchased Flamekissed Armor Skin will keep the skin.
• We will make new art for the Flamekissed Armor Skin that achieves our goal of making a visually distinct and attractive armor set and does not closely resemble the Human Tier 3 Cultural armor.
• Once this new artwork is completed, we will then update the Flamekissed Armor Skin so that all existing sets that players have purchased get the new art. We will also offer the Flamekissed Armor Skin for sale again at that time.
• When we update the Flamekissed Armor Skins with the new artwork, any player that has already purchased the set and who does not like the new, updated look, can get a full refund by contacting Customer Support.

Note that there is no ETA on when this change will happen. We need to work with the Character Art Team to determine when we can have a new armor skin ready, and this could take some time.

This is great but… Any chance on making the new Flamekissed actually look the same for males and females? I’m tired of females being given nothing but bras, bikinis, and sex-plate by way of new armor.

The decision does strike me as odd. First, why reskin two common armors for heavy and medium, and then reskin human tier 3 for light? That’s really unbalanced—doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Second, how could they not forsee how bad this decision would be on their PR? Did some inexperienced lump decide to add this in while everyone else was drunk?
If they make the other t-3 racial armors universal, that would create more problems then it fixes. I never liked human T-3 (and I don’t look forward to seeing norn and sylvari running around in those stupid flouncy bras and butt-skirts anyway—yuck!), but I can see how it’s a big problem.
At any rate, what concerns me the most isn’t the reskins themselves, it’s what the reskins signify about arenanet—that they’re getting lazier and that they didn’t forsee how badly this would go over with the players.

I’m new to PvP. What do I actually do to get in a match? I’ve gone to the lobby, but all I can find is where I can observe matches-in-progress. Confused.

I am extremely upset with the gas mask. I LOVED it and worked so hard to get it. But then I found it had only been modeled to MALE charr, NOT female charr. So while it looks great on male charr, it has horrible clipping issues with female charr.

On female charr, the ears clip through the sides of the gas mask. Also, the more muscular female charr with thick necks have horrible neck clipping problems! This isn’t fair to female charr players. The mask looks wonderful on male charr, and has been sized to fit their necks and ears. Why not female charr?

Here are pictures of the gasmask clipping issues on female charr. Her neck clips through, and her ears.

I was so disappointed to find that, while the gas mask was fitted to male charr necks, and skinny female charr necks, it clips horribly with muscular female charr necks, and female charr ears in general. This is one of the WORST charr clipping issues I have ever seen!

Nah. Female charr can sound quite beastly. That the PC sounds more level headed and cunning isn’t a bad thing.

Honestly, I wish my female charr’s voice was somewhere in-between that and what we currently have. The NPC outside the black citadel that says “If you live long enough, you’ll get plenty of both”—that voice is perfect! I want it.
I also wish my charr looked a little bit more feral. Pupils that narrow and widen like a cat’s to show emotions, lips curling back and revealing her teeth as she “tastes” the air, colder eyes, longer more ragged body hair, scars

This is what I came up with. Oh, and the lips setting was left out. Top lip is thinnest, bottom lip is average to thin, mouth is on widest setting…

Of my 8 characters, either Nyoka Gorefell or Nergal Junior. Nyoka Gorefell is my main now, and Nergal Junior was my main in Guild Wars 1—recreated here. I honestly don’t know how I’d pick…. Nyoka gets a lot more play time., but I have stronger feelings of nostalgia for Junior.
Honestly, I think I’d convince Nyoka to hide Junior somewhere, so I could keep them both.

I grew up with just the opposite perception. My dad and his gaming buddies are what got me into online games, and they were all 30-50’s. Now they’re all in the 50’s going on 60’s range and are still hardcore gamers.

I made mine dark-skinned, but I always thought of it as, since she follows bear’s spirit, she was blessed by bear and her skin tone is a symbol of that. It’s always been my theory that black skin in norn is a trait due to being a shapeshifter/being blessed by the spirits. In particular, it would make sense for bear and raven norn.

That said, I doubt Scarlet has anything to do with this. The Nightmare Court probably loathe Scarlet as much as she loathes them. I do like this living story so far, but yes, I’d enjoy seeing stories more based in Guild Wars 1’s lore.

Well, we don’t know the full situation yet, but religions and cultures do change over time. The krait have been hit pretty hard lately—adventurers going along the shoreline, slaughtering them and freeing their slaves, Zhaitan turning them into Risen, the Deep Sea Dragon blocking their path to the ocean, the Sylvari clashing with them regularly…. I can imagine some of them would be willing to change their ways, in order to make a comeback.
Plus, I recall the lore saying something about the krait religious leaders changing the religious teachings to meet their whims pretty regularly.

I haven’t seen them yet. I’ll have to pay more attention.

Honestly, I don’t see what the big issue is with the game having a bunch of female characters. Most games have mostly male characters, and players just have to put up with it. So we happen to get one game that has more females. What’s the problem?

We’re not necessarily saying we’re finding wrong with it.

It just doesn’t make sense that the one sex that most gamers can relate with (males) are practically non-existent in recent living story. So much so that the there aren’t enough of them to go around for the female characters to be straight even if they wanted to.

In other words:

Its not female gamers don’t matter.
Its that male gamers still do.

If you’re unable to relate to a female character, that says a lot about YOU, not about arenanet. Females aren’t a different species, they are People Like all people, they have unique motivations, personalities, strengths, and weaknesses. The fact that you have a ding-dong and the character doesn’t shouldn’t prevent you from relating to that character as another human.

How do you assume that just because we don’t want a woman with boobs hanging out all over the place, we must want a burqa? We don’t want burqa’s, we’re just sick and tired of female characters being turned into sex objects and treated as playthings for men—instead of actual soldiers who need protection.

I just bought the new light armor for my elementalist. Of course, the only piece I wanted was the top XD. Combined it with vigil shoulders, trueye leggings, and sandals.

As a woman, I feel the same way when I see players use the term “R@pe”. It makes me cringe. Whenever I see “R@pe” used lightly in chat, I report the person. To me, r@pe represents a horrifying act that I have learned to be wary of all my life. So seeing people use that term flippantly is disturbing.
So while I can’t claim to understand your frustration entirely, I have felt similar things. And you are right, the derogatory use of the term “gay” needs to change.

In the Living Story updates to come, what aspects of Tyria and its lore would you like to see explored more in depth?
I feel like Guild Wars 1’s legacy deserves attention—things that relate to the lore of old. I would like to see a Living Story related to the Wizard’s Tower, the Blood Legion Homelands of charr (see northern ascalon), the White Mantle & Mursatt, and Jormag,

Yeah but considering the character creation is limited… by the time you get to 8 male charr, your ability to create a unique-looking character will have died yesterday. If you make a 9th male charr, you’re just gonna get another clone of your past 8 characters. Make a female, and you have a whole new set of character creation options. I mean just look at Rednik (no offense, Rednik XD) 8 characters of the same race/gender, they all have the same look & feel lol

Just get different fur color, hair and faces that would solve the prob =D

Thinnest body type + the face with the underbite + bright orange eyes would give you a different aesthetic, so if you go male again that’s my tip.
Be sure to play around with female character creation though—you might find something cool :P

I like his backstory a lot. The name is good, but it doesn’t quite flow on the tongue. Overall though, great job!

My most recent charr is Thorn Gorecrow. Her mother hated humans intensely, and when the alliance was made, her mother tried to desert and join the Renegades—and take Thorn with her. However, Thorn’s mother was stopped and killed for treason. Thorn herself was placed in an Iron Legion fahrar, but she never forgot her mother’s death, and blamed it on the alliance. Years later, she was banished from her warband after they discovered her consorting with renegades. Now, she hates the Iron Legion almost as much as she hates humans. Eventually, she joined the Gore warband of Blood Legion, for the promise of power. Her new legionnaire aims to become the Imperator of Blood Legion, and then work toward undermining the alliance. Thorn Gorecrow intends to see her legionnaire’s ambitions succeed.

These kind Flame Legion soldiers agreed to take pictures with me. Horray!

I’m sick of my female charr’s shoulder armor floating. Since female shoulders are smaller then male shoulders, yet all charr armor is set to male shoulder proportions, the float on female charr is HORRIBLE. And even male charr suffer the issue.

I’m sick of always having to hide my helm because it cuts off my charr’s horns and mane

I’m sick of all the boots just looking like big square blocks on charr feet

I’m sick of the fact that, after I bought my elementalist a T-2 head covering, I can’t even wear it because her eyebrows clip through the top

And I’m sick of seeing that every new armor which comes out has all the same clipping, stretching, and floating issues as the previous one

I am so glad you’re broadening character creation, and I really appreciate the uniqueness and variety you’ve been putting into it. However, there are some aesthetic issues I have noticed, which really ought to be considered.
Take hair on the charr. With the exception of the Rox hair, the new charr hairs look stiff and unnatural. The picture below illustrates my point. As you can see, the old hair looks very natural—the individual strands are soft and fluffy, and it has a nice textured feel.
As for the new hair, it looks stiff, like it’s made of plastic. The individual strands are much thicker and more cartoonish, and the hair overall is much too shiny—like it’s been heavily greased. Ultimately, it looks more like a wig than real hair. I think this could be a great style, but you need to give it a more natural look—remove the shiny sheen and texture it so it falls a bit more naturally along the curve of the neck.

To other players: what other improvements could be made?

I had this problem with two of my female charr. One of them has the hair with spikes down her neck—they turned bright green one day. It was gross, so I used my hair kit to change them.
My other charr has the Mohawk with the three circular metal inserts. These inserts changed from silver-white to sky blue. The sky blue inserts honestly look OK, so I’m not inclined to use up gems on another hair kit, but it is kind of bothersome.

Hey arenanet, thanks for the additional character creation options! Please give us more—from faces, to charr horns, and so on!
Not all of the hair options are to my personal taste, but it’s good to know that character creation is being widened.
Other players: what additions would you like to see to character creation in the future?

Me, I’d like to see a male charr body type with a thinner neck. The females get the option to have a slender neck, or a bulky neck, based on your body type choice. The males though, all have bulky necks. Personally, I’d like my male charr to have a scrawny look, therefore—thin neck.

Truly dark eye color options for humans, too! Deep brown and black please.

And scars that can be added to the faces of characters!

The makeover kit is only 350 gems. That’s not a whole lot of gold. I just used gold to gems for one.

I bought a makeover kit and took a look. The first 2 female hair styles are really bad, imo. The first one could be cool, but it needs to be messier and less shiny. The second one is just a punk-rock sort of thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love that style ON HUMANS. I wear something like that myself. But on charr… just NO. The third one, Rox’s hair, I do like though.

The males have some neat options though. The first one is the same as the fem first one, with same issues. The second one is not traditional fierce charr, but it works. The third one is really cool though, I like it very much.

I’m referring to both. The difference between Faren in his speedo, and Kasmeer, is that Faren’s body is not overtly sexualized. Kasmeer has had her breasts enlarged, her torso and legs extended, and her face perfected to give her a level of sexual appeal to men, which Faren does not exhibit. Also, our society sexualizes the unclothed female frame far more than the male.

Other examples? The human and norn bodies in character creation. The humans look like anorexic supermodels—their bodies are both overtly sexualized, and they add to the problem of women’s bodies being made unrealistic in the media. Young girls are bombarded by images of female bodies like that, and they come to believe that’s what women are supposed to actually look like—and develop mental health issues. So any form of media that adds to the problem is a concern. The norn are much better in that they look healthy… but they’re still made to look sexy while the norn men aren’t.

Also, female armor options. Yes, this game is much better than most because we have the choice to dress in covering armor. However, you still see the double standard of an armor piece fully-clothing men, and giving women a bikini.

The watchknights. They are female-only, and were designed to titillate. I’ve typed out the issue above.

That said, you’re right. Guild Wars 2 is much better than most games, and it deserves recognition for that. However, it doesn’t make sense to say a problem is OK, just because the problem is worse somewhere else. That’s like saying we shouldn’t care when someone gets mugged, because other people are getting murdered elsewhere and murder is worse than mugging. In the same way, you can’t say the issues in GW2 don’t matter because the issues in, say, Tera, are worse. For a problem to be solved, whether it’s women in video games, or street violence, you can’t ignore the lesser evils and then expect it to get better.

Rox- I love her personality and sense of humor, but her eyes still scare the crap out of me. Charr aren’t supposed to look like anime princesses.
Braham- Also great personality and humor. He amuses me very much XD
Ellen Kiel- I have no opinion. I wasn’t around for her election. She seems ok.
Moto-I… disapprove. The SAB is fun, but I don’t think it should be included as a part of GW2’s lore. Like, in the GW2 world, it shouldn’t exist in the eyes of the characters. It’s a bit too far-removed.
Canach-The only thing I cared about on Southsun was getting my tentacle backpack. No opinion.
Mai Trin-No opinion. The aetherblades amuse me though.
Evon Gnashblade- Again, I wasn’t around for the elections, but he’s a charr. I mean, c’mon. He gets awesome points just for that. I wish he’d won.
Marjory Delaqua- She seems pretty cool, but she didn’t make a huge impression on me one way or the other.

A heavier body type won’t help. My medium armor charr has one of the heaviest body types and still has the problem. However, I found an armor set that I like. Have you gone to PvP and looked in the armor locker? It gives you access to every piece of armor in the game to preview.

lol that reminds me. I had a dream that the game had an error, and my main charr was back at level 2 in starter gear, with all her expensive armor and weapons gone. And every day when I logged in, she was at a different level, like 27, and then 50, and then 41, and then 5…. and it was all because a hacker had logged into arenanet and was screwing things up DX
