The part I have a problem with is, we know next to nothing about the expansion.
ArenaNet has already proven untrustworthy by forcing people to re-purchase the base game in addition to HoT…. and we hardly know what we’re buying with HoT anyway. From what people have said… 3 new maps? A few fancy bells and whistles? That’s no expansion.
If I am asked to pay $50 for an expansion, I expect to receive the equivalent of Factions, Nightfall, or Eye of the North in terms of content. Not 3 maps.

This sort of asinine behavior makes everyone in the party look like their I.Q. is somewhere around 70…… and it probably is.

it’s gotten to the point to where I insult the offending kickers, letting them know they’ve all been blocked.

What the h*ll kind of asinine community is this? Oddly enough, I think it might have something to do with the type of people who would advertise for a group in the first place, they must tend to be idiots.

Being kicked is irritating, but I guarantee, YOU are making the Guild Wars 2 community just as unpleasant as people you are so upset at.

Spitting out insults about how stupid and asinine others are for daring to kick YOU, isn’t going to gain you any sympathy. It just makes you look rude and arrogant.
More so, you freely admit that whenever you get kicked, you HARASS people with insults.

Nobody is obligated to game with you, just because you joined their party.

I like the rp’ers but they do look seriously into what they’re doing. I’m to silly to hold my composure for long. My rp’s usually consists of me dancing in drag. I mean to say it takes some dedication to rp and I’m wacked. Wouldn’t fit in. But I like them.

Sounds like a great character in the making to me XD.
Sometimes, I enjoy walking into a bar RPing my character getting drunk, just so I can projectile-vomit on innocent customers. Their RP reactions are delightful :P (Thank you arenanet, for the candy corn vomit animation)

My first encounter w an RPer on my server (before megas came about) was an off-putting one. I had no idea they were RPing, tbh, I’d never seen it presented in that way in a game before (Yes, I was a noob to GW2) and the response I got was so rude and embarrassing that I would never reach out and make contact with another RPer again.
They aren’t just cliquish to me, they’re xenophobic.
Maybe

That’s a little inaccurate, don’t you think? It’s like saying all dogs are terrible, because I got bit by one once.
Bad first impressions can be killer, but there’s thousands of RP people out there. Don’t let a few bad eggs ruin your experience.

Weindrasi.3805

Personally, this hasn’t been my experience.
I started RPing a couple weeks ago.
I walked my character into a bar. There was an RP guild event going on, and the people participating in the event ignored me—not out of unfriendliness, but simply because they were absorbed in their own conversations.

Then I noticed a character sitting by itself. I walked up to the character, grabbed a beer, and struck up a conversation. The player was very open to do RP with me, and by the time we were finished I had met and connected with a few additional RP characters.

The impression I get is that, there are times when RPers are carrying out a storyline, where it would be illogical to include a random stranger who walks up. That said, I am new to RP, so maybe I just haven’t met cliquey people.

Possible solutions:
1. There are RP hotspots in every major city. For instance, the Serrated Blade tavern in the Black Citadel, or the various taverns and bars throughout Divinity’s Reach. Generally, you can start RP with at least one of the customers.
2. Contact an RP guild in-game or via their website. Many guilds have services for hire—mercenaries, assassins, heroes, ect. Many more are open to including non-guild-members in various events. And then, of course, many are recruiting new members.
3. Set up an account on the Guild Wars 2 roleplayers website. A lot of people use it to create character profiles and seek out others.

I think it’s a myth that RP is dying or that it’s rare in this game. I see RPers all the time, both in cities and running around the world.

/shrug

All dresses on a Charr look ridiculous imo, but that’s what people were posting on the forums and asking for. Repeatedly. They wanted to be able to put their female Charr in dresses. ANet did what they asked.

I agree, but the dresses would be more bearable if Anet at least cared to give them a tail hole… and make them work for charr chests & legs.

I can just imagine a charr trying to walk—much less run—in that. The tail getting tangled in the fabric. The footclaws ripping through silk and getting horribly stuck, causing the charr to fall flat and break its toes. The fabric around the chest flapping loosely in the wind, due to lack of breasts. Bits of corset and button snapping off and flying through the air, as the charr struggles to draw breath.
It’s a nightmare more horrifying then the dragons themselves, spawned by player requests and anet’s lack of care about charr aesthetics.

But, humor aside, I really would love to see Anet put effort into player requests a little less… ridiculously.

The "Willpower" excuse

From what I heard, it isn’t willpower at all. It has to do with a sylvari’s Wild Hunt. The Wild Hunt is a compulsion, a remnant of Mordremoth’s influence, channeled through the Pale Tree into something “positive.” However, with Mordremoth’s rise, he uses the Wild Hunt compulsion to corrupt sylvari.
The reason the player character and Trahearne haven’t been affected by Mordremoth, is because they both finished their Wild Hunts. Many of the Pact sylvari were there, precisely because their Wild Hunt drew them to the Pact—and, ultimately, made them betray the Pact.

The recent Exemplar Attire looks great on humans, norn, sylvari, and even asura. However, the charr are a problem. Specifically, the charr females. Recently, you’ve come out with a number of gender-specific outfits for charr. And, frankly, they look ridiculous on the females.
I know that some people want more “feminine” charr females. But, giving charr females the exact same dress as human females is not the answer. A dress that’s designed to make a woman look hot, simply does not work on a big cat monster. Additionally, every dress you’ve given charr women, has awful tail clipping.
If you don’t have the time or resources to make a gender-specific outfit actually work for female charr, you should just give them the male version. At least make the dresses accommodate the tail.

Critique the New Faces!

I was so excited to log on today to new faces—I’ve been waiting a long time for it. Overall, I am very happy, but I do have a few suggestions, and I’m sure others do as well. So this is the thread to post your suggestions and opinions.

First, the charr faces. Oh my gosh! I am in love. The female, especially. What a terrifying face! With the recent release of more “cute” faces, I am so happy to see this one. The males are great too.
And those war paints on their faces? Wow. They are very unique, and I love that you can select the face with or without warpaint. My one tip would be, give us a few appropriate colors to select from.
At any rate, the charr get an overall thumbs up from me. I’ll definitely be using one of the warpaint faces when I get my Revenant.

The asura faces, I enjoyed. I’ve been playing since launch, and I’ve never made an asura. I liked the male face with the scars enough to give one a try.

The sylvari faces were nice, but since I’m not a big sylvari player, just as I’m not a big asura player, I can’t go in depth.

My biggest criticism is the human and norn faces. The human women look like drunk bratz dolls. It’s more of the same pouty supermodel nonsense we’ve had since launch. As for the male humans, and all the norn, they’re just bland to me. Nothing stands out at all.

•Which character/profession would you rather be?
Profession-wise, necromancer. But considering the gender disparity between myself and my character necromancers—if we’re choosing our characters, I’d go with my warrior.
THAT SAID if we enter our character as ourselves—but we then have the character’s history to consider… I wouldn’t choose my warrior because that character is an evil, sadistic lunatic with a bunch of evil sadistic followers, and real-life me wouldn’t last a day in that environment XD
So, in that case, I’d go with my elementalist. I’d get along with my elementalist’s friends. In fact, now that I’ve thought of it, my elementalist would probably be my first choice regardless.

•Which game mechanic would you rather not have to contend with?
Being forced to slow down if I get hit by something. Because realistically, I’d run faster.

•What currently unimplemented game mechanic would you wish was implemented?
uhhh no idea.

•Which NPC would you be most likely to seek out and befriend or clobber or ________?
Hmmmm I’d befriend D.E 2.0, they seem like likable people. I’d go clobber some flame legion and rescue their slaves.

•Which zone would you choose to call home?
Probably The Grove or Diessa Plateau. If my Warrior is wandering around, then somewhere FAR, FAR AWAY FROM THERE. That character is bad news. Though… I’d be curious to see that pit of horribleness in person… and wonder ‘what abomination have I created??’

•Insert your own questions here!
ARE my other characters present around me?
What about the characters I’ve invented in my head but haven’t actually created?

An outfit or armor being new does not matter. The overall total still stands.
Armor available in the game, via gem store or otherwise, -vastly- outnumbers the number of outfits they have made.

So that makes it fine for arenanet to stop adding to our choice of armors?
Will you still be making this argument when we have 50 gemstore outfits and still only 21 armors?
The overall total is utterly insignificant.
We want greater freedom for character design—which the influx of outfits takes away.

Why do you want your Gladium to be a prostitute?

She’s spent her whole life trapped in a Flame legion harem. Now that she’s out, that’s the only role she understands for a woman. Indoctrination from childhood is hard to escape.

By making a female Charr with a prostitute back history, your likely applying human sex roles to them, not Charr sex roles.

A prostitute isn’t a sex role in the Free Legions, but in Flame Legion the women are all essentially sex slaves. In fact, the Flame Legion has the most human sex roles of any group in Tyria—at least how they’ve been through most of human history.
Free Legions charr would be completely baffled by Asynda’s behavior—which is why I’d have her servicing in Lion’s Arch, and not in Ascalon.
So long as I develop Asynda’s mental state, background, & character properly, I think it fits in fine with roleplay.

I think I see what you’re saying, however the human terms sex slave or prostitute have human meanings which I doubt carry over to Charr culture. The Charr might not even have a word or a cultural definition for a female who mates outside a legally binding ceremony (a harlot) and calling her that has connotations that may be invalid when applied to Charr culture. It may be something that no female Charr would ever apply to herself and may think of as a ridiculous concept that females who mate without a ceremony first have a name for that.

The charr wouldn’t call her a Harlot, I know. At best they’d call her strange or crazy, and at worst they’d call her a flame sympathizer or a heretic.
However, the concept of a prostitute DOES exist in other Tyrian cultures, and in the melting pot of Lion’s Arch, I’m sure every citizen comes to understand its meaning. Asynda doesn’t call herself “Harlot,” and wouldn’t introduce herself as such in an RP scenario—she just calls herself “Asynda.”
However, the people of Lion’s Arch may well refer to her as ‘Harlot,’ especially those for whom the term has meaning. Regardless, Free Legions charr will be confused by and scornful of her—but that confusion and cultural incongruity are specific reasons WHY I chose to make Asynda what she is. She’s meant to be isolated from her own people.
My ex-soldier Revenant, Kione, will be written to experience that confusion and lack of understanding when she encounters Asynda—but as sharers of the same power, they will be forced to help each other in spite of backgrounds so different they can’t understand each other.

Maybe instead of a term that refers to sexual behavior, a term that refers to enslavement of the mind or spirit? Asynda Unfree, or if you want to portray her as a heretic, Asynda Heretical? Asynda Unbound if you want to suggest she freed herself from captivity.

That would, in my mind at least, be less accurate than Harlot. Yes, her experiences have restricted her worldview, but she’s free of the Flame Legion—more free than she ever has been. Unfree wouldn’t accurately describe her situation—which is both free, and restricted. And it’s too nonspecific. For the same reasons, Unbound wouldn’t work, because just as she isn’t truly enslaved, she isn’t truly free either. And her role is too passive for her to be ‘Heretical.’
I don’t think there is a descriptor that could possibly portray what & who she is with such depth—and that is true of every character name. ‘Harlot’ describes what she does—it’s just a fact. Finding out why she does it, and who she is, requires delving deeper—that’s true of every character.
If Asynda’s name were in terms the typical charr could understand, it would be along the lines of: “Asynda-the-weird-gladium-who-tries-to-make-people-give-her-money-to-hook-up.” And, well, there’s the name length limit to consider :P

Ultimately, if some RPers see ‘Harlot,’ and assume I’m a doofus who doesn’t understand charr lore, that’s fine by me. Most charr would see Asynda and consider her a doofus too XD

Agreed! This is what I want for my charr necromancer honestly. Even the thinnest male charr body has a six-pack and a thick muscled neck. I want my necromancer to be emaciated, with wasted muscles and a neck that can barely support his (already small) horns.

If you plucked a slave woman out of the 1,000’s and brought her to 2015—it would take a long time for her to understand female equality concepts. And that’s essentially the case with this character—but to an even greater degree—because in a lot of ways Tyria is more gender-equal than the modern world. Left-hand charr is “Asynda the Harlot,” an ex flame legion pleasure slave, who allows spirits to possess her body for various purposes. (kind of like Aidane from the Summoner King series if anybody is familiar)
Right hand charr is “Kione Abysmfall,” ex Blood Legion soldier after she went insane and lost her mind to the mists.

To be honest anet cant win ever can they? Im just happy that the charr get sex specific outfits for a change, so ill be buying and using this one for sure. The tail clipping is a problem across multiple REGULAR and gemstore ARMOR sets, its not a surprise and its going to keep happening, does it suck? yes. but its not going to go away. i have 8 Charr characters, 8, i love charr, but they have so many clipping issues that sometimes something like a tail clipping isnt so bad, at least it has a flap that covers the tail in this case, and it doesnt clip through the entire coat.

People complain when both the genders get the male version, and then people complain when they have different ones.

These two problems do not conflict at all. Further, people who point these problems out are not just whining.
Some people want greater sex differentiation between charr. Arenanet can easily offer that. However, giving the male a unique outfit, and the female a garbage bag, is NOT good sex differentiation. The charr are already regularly treated like garbage, appearance-wise. How come, the few times we actually get nice charr outfits, only the MALES get it? I’m not going to cry sexism… though that does seem like a Flame Legion thing to do… but I will most certainly cry laziness.
The people who want gender-specific charr outfits, want to make their female charr LOOK NICE. To some people, that means dressy feminine outfits. To other people, that means fierce warrior outfits. But NO ONE asked for the gender differentiation of female-only tail clipping, and female-only lack-of-effort. And THAT is what arenanet has given us. The pro-gender-differentiation crowd ought to be disgusted.

A Problem With Gender-Specific Charr Outfits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

More than once now, when male and female charr get different outfit versions, the male gets the superior outfit. Arenanet works to incorporate the tail into the male version, so there is no clipping, and a unique design. However, the female version gets nothing. The tail clips through the back, with minimal effort on arenanet’s part.
I am not opposed to sex-specific outfits for charr, AS LONG AS BOTH SEXES GET EQUAL EFFORT! If one version is free of clipping, and the other version is a clipping nightmare, that is extremely unfair to players who have characters of the overlooked sex.

The purpose of this thread is to share great looking armor combinations you’ve discovered for light and medium-wearing charr, so that those who are struggling with this can gain some inspiration.

To start, here are a couple of mine:

Medium-Orrian shirt, T3 gloves, aetherblade shoulders, aetherblade pants, emblazoned boots.

[Suggestion] Second weapon set visible

This would be very cool, provided—as you stated—that the secondary weapon could be hidden or shown as desired—similar to helmets and shoulders.
For some of my characters who use greatsword, staff, or hammer, it clips with their back piece. As such, I keep their one handed set as default when out of combat. But for other characters—like my ranger—her longbow and quiver back piece go great together, so it would be nice to see them both even when I am using my other weapon.

Sylvari troubles, therefore Tengu.

Seems legit.

The Flying type is very effective against the Plant type.
By the way, do you know what the pact did wrong? They used their attacks while Mordremoth was using Dig.

I love you….

What profession for your Tengu?

Perhaps it is a foolish hope, but I’ve had a character developed and ready to go for months in case Tengu are released.

Kaedo Soarscream, warrior, female.
She is middle-aged and, as part of her backstory, she has had three children (potential future characters, if Tengu are indeed released). Kaedo, however, would be my main Tengu.

A trial isn’t a summary judgement or summary punishment.

Being taken to task and questioned for her actions and having to take responsibility is only a good thing, and a court, in the end, might find her not guilty due to extenuating circumstances.

Or they might find her guilty and negligent.

The point isn’t to punish or Kill her, it’s to give a sense of closure and to show that actions have to be answered for and justified, even for ‘heroes’.

Well, while that may be interesting, there still is nowhere to hold such a trial. Her own leader already knew about her past, so any trials on that would be pretty double. As for taking the egg, we don’t really know what is going on with that to speak of a trial.

Imagine if every city in the world (except for the Grove) had warrents out for her arrest. Sure the tree probably wouldn’t extradite her, but there are Seraph and Legionnaires and Lionguard everywhere.

— Which could work anyways, even if they don’t catch her. A Robin Hood existence is dramatic.

Why would every city have warrants out? That’s even more nonsensical than our heroes doing something about it. The only way anybody would know is if our hero said “Hey! Look! That person helped the nightmare court and committed murder over a decade ago! Yes, she may be a renowned hero, BUT BUT BUT…”
Everyone would think your hero is an idiot with a personal vendetta against Caithe, scoff at you, and continue fighting dragons.
Equally ridiculous to say “Hey! I had a dragon egg! I was supposed to hatch it! But she stole it and won’t give it back!”
Based on that, the most anyone would be willing to do, is maybe try to find the egg and destroy it, because as far as Tyria knows, more dragons=BAD

No I would not punish Caithe and I think doing so would be incredibly stupid.
We’ve got bigger concerns…like killing Mordremoth and the other dragons, and sylvari going nutso, and the dragon egg, and all the other problems we have to deal with. We don’t have time to be the “Grand Dispenser Of Justice.” Furthermore, we don’t have the authority. In fact, the only one who has the authority to do anything at all is the Pale Tree, as Caithe is beholden to nobody else, and it’s already stated the pale tree forgave her.
It would be incredibly stupid and illogical of our heroes to try and “make Caithe pay” for something that happened years ago, which had nothing to do with us. If the character holds a personal bitterness against her, fine. Frankly, I find this player rage at Caithe, “SHE CANNOT BE FORGIVEN AND MUST BE PUNISHED!” to be silly. Since when did we become flawless goodie two shoes? Our heroes have slaughtered “lesser races” without provocation, and done other ‘bad’ things, too. Yet everyone loves us.

Norn: The females have massive huge breasts no matter what, and it looks horrible to me. I like the idea of a huge Nordic giantess, but I don’t want to play a sexualized character. Fierce she-giant and breast implants just don’t go together. I actually do have a female norn Mesmer—but most of the armors are unusable for me because they accentuate her freakishly large breasts. Devout and Dredge are the only two chest pieces I can stomach. The males are cool, but the females are just too dumbed down for sex appeal.

Asura: I love asura culture and personality. And I love their faces. However, armor just doesn’t look good on asura bodies, and good looking armor is a big factor for me.

Alright, ANet. We need to talk.

Character Name Wipes?

There may be several thousand abandoned accounts, but there are several trillion word combinations that make for legitimate names which are untaken. Unless you’re trying for names from other media, there really shouldn’t be a problem.
Of 14 characters, I’ve only had trouble naming one—my NPC lookalike, “Scarlet Briar.” For her, I just accented one of the letters. The rest of the names, I created on my own, and all were untaken.

You’re the one who chose to get an account on a game that specifically advertises “being able to leave for long periods and then come back” as a selling point. They’re not going to close inactive accounts.

New LS chapter has shown what the purple glowing eyes can look like. I’d love for this to now be made available as well. I’d also love a purple spinal blade color to be developed by some NPC that we can craft like the others.

I’d love to have purple glowing eyes. We already have red, green, and now blue. My money whispers to me nightly how much it would like to go into ANet’s pocket. Please make my money happy and give us purple glowing eyes.

This made me cackle out loud.
I second this. Also, black ones.
Please, anet! Think of the poor, sad money!

Kinda hard to take you seriously when you just throw random numbers around. Full light armor sets costs less than 600g to craft and considering how easy it is to get money these days it’s not that much.

http://www.gw2spidy.com/crafting/6?sort_profit=desc&min_level=80&max_level=80&min_rating=500&max_rating=500&min_supply=&max_supply=

The exact number is irrelevant, the core to the OP’s message is true. 1,500g or 600g, that’s way above the average player’s reach. Certainly way above mine. You may not be one of the “rich investor” types, but if you’re able to get 600g with ease, you’re certainly not in the majority either.

No Patch Next Week please reconsider

As unfortunate as the timing of this break may be, it’s not like they have everything in the can and are just picking release dates. Imagine your response if you were working on a large project — say, a term paper, or a mural on the side of a building — and someone said “I know your due date is in six weeks, but I’d really like you to finish next week instead.” You wouldn’t be able to do it, not with any reasonable quality.

Thank you for a reasonable comment that really stands out for its logic and perception. It’s true: The team can’t roll out content a month in advance on request. There is a plan and a master schedule, and with the much-loved and keenly-anticipated Wintersday Festival, Episode 8 will receive its full due in January, as intended. And as outlined in Colin’s blog post, there are other nice things coming, too!

Please, if this thread is going to continue, I ask you to think before posting. This is a forum, sure, but let’s all do our part to tamp down the DramaBeast with his +5-gazillion to Hype Attacks.

On one hand, I understand the desire to tamp down the hype, whining, and general illogic that seems to run rampant on the forums. The “DramaBeast,” as you put it.
On the other hand, I’ve noticed that while non-critical responses such as Donari’s get lavishly praised for their “logic” and “reason,” criticisms of major decisions affecting the game or the forums—even legitimate criticisms—tend to get brushed off or treated as “illogical” by the devs who reply.
There is a lot of silliness on these forums, but legitimate criticism should not be dismissed out of hand. Perhaps it was never intended as such, but a number of people on the forums perceive a condescending aspect, at times, to dev feedback.
That said, I do understand—and even agree with—your decision to put the Living Story off for the holidays. However, the pacing of the living story has been, and is, flawed. Even though it makes sense to take a holiday break, these players have been dealing with pacing issues for a long time—and it is equally logical for them to be frustrated. Even if you cannot cede to their want for the living story to continue, you could (and, I think, should) recompense them somehow, for the wait.
Recompense could come in many forms. Hints; written short stories that offer us another angle to the current living story; the release of living story-related skins and goodies over the holiday; ect. This would help ease the legitimate frustration of those being made to wait, without putting those who will be gone for the holidays behind.
