Any kind of a reply would be nice so that I knew whether to update my guide.

Scarlet potions work on nightmare court but not flame legion. So you can use them for TA but thats about it.

You can see details of what works for each dungeon path on gw2dungeons. I know there is a thread with all this info somewhere but i dont fancy digging around for it.

Does anyone know any good combo video guides? The one on reddit was quite dragged out and some others I have seen mention stuff like Whirling Axe.

I would like to have a brief video which tells “stack might like this”, “stack stealth like this” and “stack swiftness like this”.

Then it would show how to do with different professions.

Also would be nice to also have real examples.

Wethospu.6437

Heyh! Want to help http://gw2dungeons.net + wiki and win up to 1000g?

With the new first person camera I think it would be a great time to add images for dungeons and fractal enemies. On top of updating my site I’m also planning to update the wiki.

However getting these images, editing then, uploading them and so on is a lot of work so I decided to make this lottery instead. So here is how this will work:

  • Lottery happens at end of April
  • The winner gets 500 g, 5 sub-winners get 100 g each
  • You get one ticket for each (serious) dungeon/fractal related image
  • You get an additional ticket for each image which I choose to use on my site
  • Gif animations get two extra tickets
  • To increase your chances, focus on less popular enemies!
  • Images can be about enemies, their animations, their attack effects or just general dungeon/fractal situations (I’m not very strict)
  • At end of April all imaginary tickets get pooled up and I randomly choose winners and then contact them on forums for account information

You can check for example http://dulfy.net/2013/11/27/gw2-thaumanova-reactor-fractal-guide/ or http://the-unknowns.eu/index.php/Thread/24-Fractal-Guide to get a better idea what I’m looking for.

  • You should use png/jpg and gif/gifv/webm formats
  • Edit your images, at least remove unnecessary areas with Paint
  • UI can be on or off (which one you think is better)
  • Any image hosting is fine (for example )
  • You can also upload them directly to wiki!
  • Send links to your images in this topic

Hopefully at the end of April we have most enemies, attacks and situations covered up!

Note: If you have ever planned to donate gold, now is a really good time (Wethospu.6437). I have less than 100g so all prize money will come from gems. If for some reason I receive too many donations I will add additional prices.

If you have any questions feel free to ask. Also thanks in advance for everyone helping!

Heyh, based on my observation the biggest thing needed for the dungeon community is a general dungeon guide. There are actually quite many concepts which you have to learn to play effectively and I don’t think they are explained very well anywhere.

For pages I have considered this structure:

General page (done)

  • What are dungeons and fractals?
  • How to gear up / find info (game settings, basic combat)
  • How to use lfg (+ sellers)
  • Exploiting

Meta (done)

  • What meta means and what is the current meta
  • Why it works and how it’s used (active def vs. passive def)
  • Brief description of professions’ strengths and weaknesses
  • Links to gameplay/build guides

Combat (done)

  • How to deal damage (melee, damage build, might, vuln, fury)
  • Pulling
  • Stacking
  • Positioning and mobility

Active defense (done)

  • Explain reflecting, absorption, dodge, evade, dodgejump, block, immunity, invulnerability, blind, control
  • Strengths and weaknesses

Skipping (done)

  • Why?
  • How to (stacking stealth, swiftness, mobility, teleports, portal)

Combos (done)

  • What are they? Overwriting fields?
  • Important ones
  • Links to stacking video guides

Others (done)

  • Combat / out of combat
  • NPC aggro
  • Linecasting

Glossary (done)

  • Terms like meta, zerk, ICD, stack and so on

Now you probably think that lots of those have already been done somewhere. That’s true. I’m going to link to other sources as much as possible to reduce my work and give credit to other people. Current resources:

  • GW2 wiki: Descriptions for various stuff
  • Finder’s combat guide: http://tinyurl.com/GW2combatguide
  • Dungeon forum FAQ for various stuff
  • Dulfy / DnT profession guides for professions
  • Maybe that new combo guide on reddit (have to check it first)

If you have any ideas for what should be explained or how any resources please let me know.

Also it will be quite a challenge (at least for me) to keep the guide easy to follow and coherent with all resources around. So if you have any ideas how to organize different topics that would be appreciated.

Actually on the site it lists the total damage, not damage per tick.

Two types of people in high fractals

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Wethospu.6437

Wethospu.6437

It’s actually called Swampland. And the time it takes to roll it is significantly less than doing Uncategorized, Urban Battlegrounds, and possibly the same amount Of time as Aquatic Ruins tho a lot of people don’t like Aquatic Ruins or don’t have the AR for it. So if you want to do an extra 15-20 mins in your run then don’t roll Swampland. And to be brutally honest if you don’t bother to do that you most likely don’t know or don’t bother with the other little things that make fractals go faster or easier.

Fixed.

Another idea is to keep current system but make dungeons less griefable. Currently the biggest problem is that you get kicked at end. What if dungeon tracked your participation?

For example if you get kicked at end you would still get 80%-90% of the rewards. This could also be extended to solos so that you would get 500% rewards if you solo.

Also one quick idea to protect sellers is that you can only kick previous players if you have been in the instance for 5 minutes.

Lol why so bad? Stop ranging and use valid tactics. I consistently clear it in 5 minutes, solo.

But yeah, I think something should be done to reduce the time needed. It would attract casuals and help us in long term.

To make the outcome more about player choices and less about luck.

it’s always about luck.

You have 0 way of guaranteeing the enemys build. There are no 3rd party programs that let you see that so you have to ASSUME what they are building.

There is NO WAY for you to tell thier EXACT trait tree setup. You can again ASSUME what it might be, based on their playstyle.

BECAUSE of that, you will also NEVER be able to know the exact dmg, that the enemy can put out to you.

Everything done in pvp is all Human reflex and GUESSING.

TL;DR; I don’t know what “more” or “less” means.

Also with builds you can make educated guesses. With RNG you can’t.

The common problem with “narrow scope” discussions is that participants rarely talk about the same thing. You focus on why RNG elements have something to do with player skill. I focus on why player unpredictability is a better mechanic than RNG elements since they both lead to risk management.

From your point of view RNG involves player skill. From my point of view it doesn’t.

Is luck a player skill?

No, but that’s not what I said. I said that planning for/around luck is a player skill. Actually it’s a human skill, and a very important one as many events in our lives are influences by such a complex chain of events that they are factually chance-based from our perspectives.

Planning around this, and knowing what to do depending on how a random (or pseudo-random) event pans is important. It actually requires more skill because it creates a very large decision-tree. “Player uses attack X, sigil procs” and “player uses attack X, sigil doesn’t proc” is after all twice as many situations to plan for than just “player uses attack X”.

Why would you promote something which is not about player skill?

I hope you also enjoy these “let’s have as narrow scope as possible without considering the whole situation” kind of discussions (since it will take a while before we get anywhere).

That is pretty neat, just like mai’s spin swirl has a tell as well. Except when your screen is covered with elementalist and guardian spell effects on small humanoids and then seeing those tells in time gets less consistent.

It’s one of the things I really like about my necro actually, when you go into death shroud, the spell effects from other people get toned down a lot so you can actually see crap.

The important part is that their big attack actually has a distinct audio cue.
