Trung,

I use that same combo of WW > Judge’s Intervention

I call it the Whirling Intervention (lolz real orignal i kno..), and its gotta be one of the best combos for the guardian.

Especially in a 2v1 situation if ur roaming. Teleport on the guy behind and beat on him while his friend runs forward trying to figure out if you waypointed or not haha.

Funny that you’d mention that because i did recently switch to Tome of Wrath.

Although on the battlefield i hardly ever activate my elite. Unless im defending something from a siege. Its the only thing that will give my build any range. Even in a siege tho i’ll usually switch to staff and auto attack through the gate (crits up to 1.5k-2.4k with staff hits) because the empowering might + staff auto attack lets u crit up to 5 people at once. The might can be quite insane. Im usually hovering inbetween 6-18 stacks of might.

But unfortunately support is not an option for me

@Lord Kevin. I am quite private with my builds, atleast until im really comfortable with them. I spend alot of time number crunch and figuring out Stat Patterns comparatively to Armor/Trinkets/Weapons to find out how i can get the best averages of stats. On top of that this build is meant to be played around a theory with GS/Staff specifically. If i wanted to change to sword+shield or infact any weapon that isnt 2 handed i would have to start from scratch. I will eventually be posting videos and a write up on this matter tho.

Im just trying to optimize my stats to my play-style and what i find most comfortable for right now.

Griefers will Grief, Whiners will whine.

If they cant handle it with names, what makes you think those same people aren’t going to find a way to complain in a different way… posting about the OP class he just got killed by, talking crap to guilds, or general just put up an attitude.

Im sorry but i feel like just because we dont have names on enemies that actually directs the whining and griefing more towards Team Chat, and Map Chat during WvW. And no one wants to hear how you lost or how you think this might suck. They’ll turn to raging on their own allies just to blow off their steam and calm down and spend more time whining to people who are trying to play the game then actually bringing themselves to try and play better.

Guys, there will always be noobs. There will always be flamers/QQers/Griefers/etc. and theres nothing that we can really do about it. If they could have their way, they’d have all the classes they dont play nerfed and they’re class buffed instead of learning how to utilize their own class and effectively and plan a strategy accordingly.

People always look to blame something else, instead of reflecting upon themselves, in order to make themselves feel better.

Whether we have names or not, i dont think it would “increase” the QQing/Whining.

I almost wish i could get those whispers of other people on servers just saying “OMG OP MOTHERKITTEN GO DIAF” i kinda miss those after giving them a nice spanking. I have to settle for them talking about my guild instead >_>

Pro-Tip for you Telegraph.

You can actually hit their rams (and them) from inside the gate. Try WW and regular auto-attacks as you press yourself against the door from the inside. You’ll be hitting them and they wont even see you.

Talking from a WvW stand point. Speed Increase is nice to have, especially on a short cooldown. Get back to the your Zerg fast if you should be downed & stomped. If you should happen to run into a zerg traveling, switch to Retreat before you get in combat and stack that with ur swiftness symbol, u can keep up your swiftness for pretty long.

As Ultra stated, the Staff is great. Often under appreciated. If you should not happen to want to take the front line, or if u have a big ol’ char/norn warrior let him charge in first and cast ur AoE auto attack right at his back sending the cone out infront of the direction he is heading. Most people wont notice you all that much if u dont make it obvious, they’ll be paying too much attention to the warrior.

Orb of light can be a clutch healing attack to a friend in need if u get the aiming for it down. Empower gives so many stacks of might as well as healing (even more so with Aulteristic Healing involved with it as well as nearby allies.). Line of Warding, super good, if im with my team and we need to escape i’ll usually try and hang in the back and use LoW to block a bridge or plug a tunnel and buy yourself and your team a couple seconds if you happened to be chased by anyone.

It doesnt really accomplish extraordinary dmg but its definitely good. Staff is a support weapon at its core. If your running a WvW squad, people will love you, zergs will love you.

But it wont help once you get to breaking down a gate too well (unless you fire it through the door to hit people fixing the gate) or defend against cannons/burning oil/rangers/other ranged enemys. If your worried about Ranged, grab a Scepter/Focus or Torch. If your ok with disadvantaging yourself with ranged and would shy away from those fights in order to provide more ally support, i would stick with the staff.

Guardian GS or Warrior GS Help

Something to take into account when deciding.

Warriors have very, very, viable ranged dps. Its easy to switch out from a GS to a Rifle while using ur actual GS skills to help you escape (Warr GS skills tend to throw you out towards a target, use it in the opposite fasion) switch to rifle and do awesome dps from a ranged if u need to wait for a reset or have a CD come back.

As a Guardian, in the style i play, i have no ranged. At all. I use a staff, but even then its ranged effectiveness is at a halfway point in between melee and ranged. GS is my primary weapon and i love it, but that doesnt mean walls of ranged enemys aren’t going to be pissing you off leaving you wishing you had a bow/rifle.

I almost want to say Warriors can even escape out combat a lot better then Guardians. I feel sometimes that when ur limited to such in-your-face ranges you’ll tend to be focus-fired upon and will have trouble breaking all the stuns/immobilizings

Guild Wars 2: Guardian Heal Tank Build

I came to the same understand (“selffish” came to my mind too) that even tho it may be completely based for supporting yourself it still brings a valuable aspect to parties. In PvE i tend to out-aggro almost everyone anyway (and with very little effort too) so i proceed to kite mobs/boss and lets allies get hit on him while turning back onto them if they should ever focus on someone else. In WvW, im very comfortable, i dont want to boast but it definitely pulls its weight.

Video/montage is already in the works. I’ll let that speak for me when it comes out.

Send me a message in-game and i’ll give you a better idea of what it is with some examples to go along with it and breakdown the theory i have built around it.

As for the Armor Slots, yes i use Orbs. Not exquisite jewels but the yellow rarity Orbs you get from mining Orichalcum Nodes.

Regular Orbs – For Armor/Weapon stuff.
Exquisite Jewels – For Accessories/Rings/Amulet

Exquisite Jewels are made from Orbs.

Needed to know if Retaliation was a viable strategy/boon to us against Necro’s/Bleed Thieves. Doesnt look like it would hurt have, but its not serving its full effect then against condition dmg.

I’ve actually decided on skipping rune sets. With my build being a what it is and considering my play style, front line burst dps with a good surviability, i’ve tried to push the limits on stacking stats. I’ve currently been using Orbs instead of Rune’s. I find they’re more capable of “Fine Tuning” of stats.

After a good 6-hour session of testing what i’ve recently decided to change. I’ve been able to do impressively well and i’ve decided to use the Superior Sigil of Perception, thanks ultra haha, i tested it and my survivability is high enough to keep me alive without being downed or having to worry. If im downed im usually too far deep and am as good as dead anyway.

I pretty happy as of right now.

  • Attack – 3,216
  • Crit Chance % – 30% (42% at 25 Stacks of Accuracy)
  • Crit Dmg % – 93%
  • Armor – 2,555
  • HP – 16,905

And with Food/Oil (Precison/Crit Dmg ) i can push it to a solid 50% crit and 103% dmg.

You bring a great point with World Bonus’s. Personally tho, i believe they’re nice to have but and the end of the day you shouldnt be counting on it. And i’d hate to rely on something that i have no control over.

Im playing on Ehmry Bay and were getting stomped so even in my current situation it doesnt even look like i’ll be having any bonus’s lol

So my whole focus right now is maximizing the utility of my base stats.

Retaliation

Heres a question about Retaliation i’d like an answer too.

Does Condition DoTs (bleeds, poision, etc etc..) cause Retaliation to proc?

As in Thief or Warlock stacks a crap ton of bleeds on you, is he hurting himself through his own DoT spell?

Well i’ve been playing around with a couple ideas.

I have the Foundation of my character built around my build. I’ve been running this build since September… 10/0/30/30/0 which i’ve nick-named the Speed Tank because of the focus on reduced cooldowns.

Its a beautiful build imo, and im in love with the power i can bring. (I had a 4k Smite Condition last night which i thought was pretty beautiful.)

I’ve been testing this for the last couple days and i cant bring myself to a solid decision.

In a 1v1 skirmish i feel like the stacks pre-built up would get me farther, but if im in the middle of zerg and i should be downed and then rally’d, losing those stacks in the middle of a fight can be very damaging.

Making Up For Crit Chance %

Hey guys,

So ive hit a point that i cant decide between. I’ve gotten the best gear and outfitted it to what i spent hours number crunching to be the best for my style.

But the one thing im lacking is Crit Chance % and im currently deciding how much is really needed. Im deciding between Orich. Coral Rings with Exq Emerald Jewels inserted (i have a 2 of them) or between Orich. Beyrl Rings with Exq Beryl Jewels.

Stats right now with Coral Rings…

  • Attack – 3.1k
  • Armor – 2.6k
  • HP – 16k
  • Crit Chance % – 44% (39% (Base Crit) + 5% (Superior Sigil of Accuracy on Weapon))
  • Crit Dmg % – 81%

Stats with Beryl Rings…

  • Attack – 3.2k
  • Armor – 2.5k
  • HP – 17.3k
  • Crit Chance % – 33% ( 28%(Base Crit) + 5%)
  • Crit Dmg % – 93%

Now i know (IN THEORY) that Crit Dmg % isnt worth investing in if ur not actually Crit-ing. But i’d like some personal experience/input from some of the experienced Guardians out there.

Also would like an opinion on the Superior Sigil of Accuracy (Steady 5% Crit) vs Superior Sigil of Perception (Builds Stacks of Perception (max +250 Precision)) and whether you find the stacking process to be too much of a pain to maintain (of course its easy to say “well then dont die lolz” but that just isnt possible when ur running point on a strike team) and whether the effort/risk to maintain those stacks is worth it to make up for the increased amout of Crit %

What do I do in WvW as a Guardian?

I run front position with a warrior in my guilds Strike Team.

We’re a 5man well-oiled organized machine. Wiping Zergs clear off the map and away from Keeps. I really wouldnt know what you’d call my build, i came up with it on my own and have been running with it since early September and it allows me to pump out a lot of dmg, I use a GS/Staff.

My job is to run Point Position with the warrior, i run in first cause a lot of ruckus and the warrior is right at my back Whirlwind-ing. We fight and run through for a couple sec until everyone see us there and grabs their attention. Then we have our 3 others bring up the rear right behind us and Nuke em will their back are turned.

I dont get even downed very often in WvW, not to say i dont take some dmg but i utilize the fact that dodging heals me as well as crits give me vigor for endurance very well.

From reading the forums, seems like a cookie cutter guardian is whatever with 30/30 in vitality/toughness and 10 in whatever else you like.

I’d beg to differ to say thats a Cookie Cutter Build. Too many different possible combinations to just start calling stuff Cookie Cutter.

Yeah its really a matter of preference.

Your way makes alot of sense tho with the PBAoE Blind and the extra Boons from virtues, they are one of the less appreciated abilities guardians have. (f3 can be like a third dodge if your good with timing)

You gain the increase in survivability, and over all battle control. I went off to improve the synergy between WW + Judges Intervention with Fiery Wrath to increase burst dmg.

Great thing about this build is that the guardian “Nerf” doesnt actually affect our play styles or combat since we are utilizing symbols to the fullest. Now we just get to leap faster yay xD

Why this game has no dungeon finder?

A LFG system wouldnt ruin socialization and make people selffish.

This game has loot for all and everyone gets their share based on luck.

If you think an LFG system is going to cause people to be uncooperative or socially negative, then guess what theyre kitten-holes. When i join a group i usually like to say hi cuz im happy other people want to run this dungeon. Im not thinking about the LFG system and matching me with “zomg oh noes, Randoms!”

People will choose to be social or anti-social, cooperative or uncooperative, nice or straight up mean, With or Without a LFG system.

The LFG system would just help streamline the process to aquire a group for a dungeon. Allowing a player let says to run his Orichalcum rounds around Frostgorge Sound and Cursed Shore while looking for a group at the same time.

How exactly is this going to ruin the social aspect of this game, someone please give me a real example lol?

I’ve been running basically the same build since launch. Its powerful.

I used the 0/5/30/30/5 but decided to upgrade to the 10/0/30/30/0 for more dmg.

I liked your bit at the end where you have to have the last 5 points, but politely it isnt a make-or-break stats… personally imo.

The Guild Stone and Guild vs Guild

Hey guys.

I realized that after you’ve done 100% completion on map no one is really ever anywhere else besides Frostgorge Sound or Cursed Shore farming. I think its a real shame that such beautiful area (especially the starting zones) are only used for such a short and brief amount of time. Theres no replay value left in the zone after 100%.

I think something needs to be done about this. So to start off… THE GUILD STONE.

Ok so, HoM has its own instance. What about a guild? Imagine a Guild Stone, an item that is aquired (i think it should be aquired after a certain amount of influence) and is plant-able in the PvE world for everyone to see, and through the guild stone you could instance into a generic hall standard to all guilds but decked out in your own choice of colors as well banners displaying your Guild Emblem. These would be able to be placed almost anywhere in the world! Your favorite Vista? Your favorite Beach? favorite Little Hidy-Hole? On top of a Treacherous Mountain? Deep Underground? Who knows! YOU CHOOSE!

Now these instances would have other uses to, for both guild members belonging to the corresponding Guild Stone as well as others who may find the stone on their travels.

Guild Members would be able to travel instantly to the guild instance and use Guild Armor/Weapon, Check Roster Status, A Unique World Map (imagine the world of Tyria on a huge round table) displaying locations of other guild members currently, a vendor to use, Guild Bank to Access, as well as the Guilds Current List of Achievements.

Non-Guild Members would also be able to check your Guild Achievements out, see how many players are in the roster, and get a general preview of the guild. And if they liked what they saw they could apply to be in that guild right there!

Now for the Guild vs Guild part…

Ok so back in the Beta Event, they ended off with taking the Metrica Province and making it Hunger Games Battlegrounds. Take that same concept and introduce Guild Warfare. Imagine Guilds Fighting over Control/Influence of the zone. Other guilds could issue Declarations of Challenge to the guilds in those area and fighting more their Influnece (maybe a guild bonus for some “influence system” provided by how much control over that PvE area you have.)

Guild vs Guild Battles could actually take place in the PvE areas themselves! Almost like a mini-WvW. If a guild challenge was issued 2 guilds could send out maybe 20(or 30? or 40? different sized battles = different scale of rewards?!) of their own guild members to fight against an opposing guild.

It would be like a player-made event. Only applying to those who are representing and signed up to defend/attack in the Guild Battle. Suddenly the world is alot more lively. A player might see (or maybe get a msg) that a Guild Battle is occuring in their area and he might see 2 players battling it out in PvE gear right as hes running off to complete his next zone.

Its double the fun and a win/win for everyone i think. Guilds get to compete against each other for rewards/bragging rights. Players who dont have guilds are inspired to create them or join one. Not only would it be fun to fight in/participate, BUT U CAN HAVE AN AUDIENCE TOO!

It increases the amount of replay value of the PvE zone. Im never going to run around a zone like before because of all the way points and it sucks to see such beautiful environment not really explored and utilized to its fullest value.

But if i was with my guild fighting for Influence (maybe in the WvW off-hours) then of course i’d be running all over that 1-15 or 30-40 zone trying to fight/gain influence.

I think this would be a great way to add in some Server-Exclusive PvP, and everyone wants to be the best, lets give them a way to prove it.

Pact Weapon Vendor in Story Mode

Anet,

I saw a thread about this a while back, but i cant find it anymore..

I heard that in the last story mission as you return to Fort Trinity there is a weapon vendor that sells Pact Weapons (Specifically the “Pact Greatsword” that looks half chainsaw, been trying to find it ever since i saw it in the PvP locker, LOOKS SO KITTEN COOL)

Anyways, i heard there was a bug as well with the Vendor. That it was only available in Story Mode for the brief time you were at the end of story mission in Fort Trinity, and i believe i heard that he wasnt even selling them and that it was bugged.

Anyone know when this might be fixed?

Anet,

Dont listen to the noobs. Keep the fun jump puzzles and mini-games in dungeons. So much fun.

The first time i ever ran CoE i died laughing so hard as i was repeatedly killed. (Pro-Tip take off ur armor) Seriously one of the most fun times i’ve had dieing with a party struggling to do a mini-game XD

On top of that, whats really COOL Anet was that it was a Multi-Person dependent puzzle. It made dungeon parties required talk with each other and communicate. I’d love to see more of these in the future.

P.S. – Learn to appreciate that a dungeon can be more then Kill > Next Mob > Boss > Boss > Last Boss. Its allows dungeons to seem more like an ADVENTURE then a slaughter-fest grind to the end.

Guardian – Healing, Ally Supportive, Surviability, Boon Machine. Low Hp. Good Multi-Enemy CC or Multi-Ally Support. No ranged (No good ranged that is)

Warrior – Dmg. Access to All Weapons. High Hp. Good Multi-Enemy Dmg. Low CC (as far as i know). Good Ranged DPS if required. Good Burst Dmg. Low Healing. More Conditions then Boons.

Those are the major differences in the class that are apparent after a while. The rest of the differences that occur between players are really dependent on play style and skill. You’ll have to ask yourself which one you feel most comfortable with

I switch between both. Its usually depends if im in a party and playing with other people and how supportive i want too be to other allies.

- Save Yourselves -

  • 10 Boons, 10 sec.
  • Extra 20% crit
  • -33% dmg
  • Swiftness.

Not to mention the others but even these make the skill worth it. Someone just outside the reach of your blade? Pop Save Yourselves and you’ll catch up, get some good crits, and most likely he wont be able to dmg you much back at all.

- Stand Your Ground -

  • Stability (The one boon that Save yourselves doesnt give lol)

I really shouldnt need to mention anything thing besides this. Stability is one of the most clutch moment boons EVAR. Pop it right before you Stomp someone (or you allies stomp someone). About to take on a 2v1? Pop Stand Your Ground to get in some much needed DPS before they start to CC you or use it to give you the time you’d need to run away without being trapped.

Both viable skill that each have their respective merits about them, but both as well are more useful then the other depending on the situation. But you cant switch in combat so you’ll have to make that call beforehand. Test it out for yourself!

This warrior just happened to crit well and im no fan of the magical tennis racket.

I am a melee based fighter, but the video helped alot to look into predictability and anticipating.

Im not having trouble with the warrior per say as much as i was having trouble predicting their moves. I just need to learn the skills to watch out for with what weapons and how fast they can pop them.

There is supposedly some reconsideration of Retaliation’s use. Maybe they will make it viable outside of weak return damage. The broken skill isn’t entirely broken. They have admitted that there is a small issue with uneven leaps (i.e. higher to lower ground or vice versa). As for the blind procs, that is part of the hit. You can expect to injure an enemy without actually hitting it. I know that is crazy to think about.

I have experience what your talking about, atleast i think i have. I would jump, but just before i hit the ground next to the enemy i’d actually change directions facing the way i jumped before hit the ground, not do dmg, but the blind aoe would come around me. Something along those lines right?

But this warrior wasnt using all that many stuns or compromising my stability.

And dodging 100B maybe be easy when ur standing and watching for it. But when you simultaneously trying to get in close yourself to be able to deal dmg back to him, while also fighting off the threat of putting yourself out to far and giving him the advantage of range, its kinda hard to dodge without taking the first 8k dmg which it might do in its first 2 secs, especially if it crits. Already more then half my health right there.

you really think the warrior is slow? Play a Guardian and tell me how fast we are. I stack cooldown reduction for a reason. Your Hundred blades which definitely does more dmg on me then my Whirling Wrath. On top of that, you have an 8sec natural CD on 100B while Whirling is at 10. I have to get a Master Trait in order to reduce it to 8sec.

Again i dont want this message to come out like “omg warriors are OP” but dont talk down on your class like that when it simply isnt true. If your not fast, maybe its a problem on your end and not the warrior class.

I accepted that i could learn to play the guardian better, not just pass it off like “its my class, not me”. Its the whole reason im here…

Lol Guardians OP against you? I just started a thread about how i got owned by a warrior and asking for help. If your really having trouble doing dmg with a warrior… welll idk what to tell you but stop stacking magic find…

As far as the “nerf” idk what kind of nerf it really was. If you play a guardian and read the patch notes, you’ll be very confused as to what they were trying to accomplish compared to what they actually did.

Warriors are probably at the pinnacle of balance right now, if not then definitely leaning on the OP side i’d say. But i aint complaining.

Im running a 10/0/30/30/0 build and 30 in Honor because in the Honor tree (which really has no good grand master trait it) i can still use both Two-Handed Mastery and Empowering Might (20% less CDs on 2handed & Critical Hits grant Might) as well as an extra 1k hp and healing power.

Unfortunately, spirit weapons aren’t my thing. I’m more of mediations guardian. I use Save Yourselves / Smite Condition / Judge’s Intervention. And i have a problem using the Zeal tree because of the focus on symbols and spirit weapons, and without any of those your left powerless in the event of spirit weapons on cooldown and most fights your dodging so much that symbols on the ground will never do they’re full DPS/Support in a real fight.

My build is the way it is so i can heal of my meditation attacks, gain vigor and might with critical hits for more dmg/more dodge. My dodges heal me as well. Smite Condition is a great move for condition removal as well as dmg and now it heals me as well. Judge’s Intervention has got to be my favorite move in the game (Whirling Wrath + Judge’s Intervention = Exploding Teleporting Fire Torando)

My build is pretty solid and it fights my play style perfectly. Its very strong. But it wasnt my build that got me killed but my lack of tactics and prep for the fight is what i think got me. He must of gotten 90% of his attacks to hit, while i was struggling catching up and missing CDs.

Blinds and blocks. 100 blades is excellent at punching through blinds (so many attacks), while the blocks are good at dealing with multiple-hit attacks.

Don’t try and immobilize the Warrior – if he has half a brain he will have the trait which allows movement skills (of which the Greatsword has 2) to break them. Cripples on the otherhand are annoying as hell as we need to use condition removal to get rid of them.

It might sound stupid, but you can’t allow the Warrior to hit you. A toe-to-toe DPS fight comes out in the Warrior’s favour each time due to higher DPS and more hitpoints. You need to use all of the guardian’s defensive tools to deal with the Warrior on top of your evades. Avoid the big hits and you can chip away at his health without too much of an issue.

He did a smart thing switching to the rifle and exploiting your lack of range – I’m honestly not sure what tools Guardians have to counter that part (leaps/teleports/reflection walls/etc). If you have a reflection wall it is perfectly possible for the Warrior to nearly kill himself with a reflected Kill Shot.

For landing hits on the Warrior, dodge is the main way we avoid hits so make us blow the endurance bar and we’re very vulnerable. The Greatsword whirling attack also acts as an evade, so if you manage to read that the Warrior is about to activate it, go with a block rather than trying to knock the Warrior out of it as you’ll miss every time.

Edit: As far as the teleport/CC i do have them and i did use them. Unfortunately my blind missed (Leap of Faith Grrr >.<) And my teleport worked, but how close do you really want to be sometimes haha. They both have long cooldowns 24sec and 36sec (both WITH reduced cooldowns) so the fight was over before i could start using them again

Leap of Faith’s mechanics are really weird. Its not a targeted skill at all. What it actually does is create a tiny aoe effect to where it plans on going. Like any aoe, it only takes effect if theres someone in it

Thats another major problem too, the activation of the blind is dependent of the “hit”

With such a risky move its really All or Nothing.

I understand what you mean about the Hundred Blades and dodging before it ends, only problem tho is that the dmg that could be caused beforehand is already half my HP (16k max)

So i’d have to find a way to expect it coming or get use to the beginning animations to be able to tell the difference from a normal auto-attack or other skill.

Hey guys.

Im hoping this grabs one of the “higher ups” attention but theres a serious problem in using Leap of Faith in PvP.

Im sure the Developers already know, but if by chance they dont, im going to make a topic out of it.

Leap of Faith in WvW has probably a 50%-70% chance of working correctly as of right now. Here are the major problems i see as well as what i observed comparatively to PvE, which Leap of Faith almost never fails (but still can).

  • You tend to miss if the opponent is on uneven ground (i.e. slanted rocks, hills, dips)
  • You’ll tend to miss if the opponent “mouse-turn” near the moment of impact on to a different direction (i.e. – someone is running away in a straight line, you use LoF but as your in the middle of the jump, they quickittenurn into another direction or circle around)
  • You most often miss if the opponent is below you.
  • And sometimes you just miss.

As of right now, its a gamble of a move. You could either give your self the needed catch up in distance and blind them to lead into another rotation of attacks. Or you might end up killing yourself by sending yourself flying over the enemy straight into his next attack and combos.

Especially with this reduced cool down we just got on it last patch, i kinda feel like its a “Now you can gamble with your life even MORE!”

…. The irony is i now know why they call it Leap of “Faith”

Warriors! Come out to Plaaayyaaay!

Hey whats up guys. Lvl 80 Guardian here and i need some help/points on how too…. KILL YOU ALL >:D Nah but really, im just having a hard time with you guys. Dont worry i dont think you guys should be nerfed before i’ve had a chance to try and improve on my fighting style against you guys but i’ll need some pointers.

I was doing WvW last night getting the unexplored points and having fun ganking people and getting into some 1v1s (the only 1v1s i seriously count are those who aren’t scaled up) in the borderlands and i came across a rather difficult warrior. Now i know this warrior was fluent with his choice of class he was definitely good. He used a Greatsword and Rifle.

He had a great tactic too and probably considered i was weak at a range. He used 100B (i dodged but not before 8k dmg got me) which then after he used a whirlwind to push himself through me and dodge forward after to increase the distance between us. After which he switched to a rifle and proceeded to shoot now. So i pop my heals and try and use a Leap of Faith to blind him and close the distance (how ever the LoP failed, went straight over his head and missed, which only really placed me infront of him) which then he switched back to GS to finish the job with another 100B/auto-attack.

Now i know i could of been using my CCs better, i’ve already beaten myself up for it. I know this guy was good too. Using an attack to not only dmg but increase the distance knowing i was weak at a range. This guy had a good plan, i kinda fell into it.

Now i wont be falling for that again. LoS is important in a ranged battle but what i’d really like help with is more of rotations.

What are the common warrior skill/utility rotations. Specifically what to watch of for and when. I’ve heard to watch out for Endure Pain because it basically is a couple seconds of immunity from everything, but of course this is all just stuff i’ve heard in passing. I dont actually know how to tell when a 100B is coming up from a way to preemptively dodge outta the way of a Whirlwind.

I’d like some pointers from the warrior community. Thanks guys.

P.s. – Some extra info, the warrior i fought was built for DPS i could tell from the dmg he took so getting in a close-range fight definitely wasnt his best choice. Im a Guardian using a GS/Sword+Shield and if anyone is particularly curious on my build im a (10/0/30/30/0)

Did Searing Effigy last night for the first time. Boy, what-a-fight! 2 Guardians, Mesmer, Elementalist, and Thief. I main-tanked the boss (as best i could) while at first 2 of us only got crystals. Then more came, which eventually turned in 3 on crystals and 2 on boss.

Eventually after struggling to get him past 25% i made the call to get everyone off the crystals as soon as they killed the ones that were near them and we all did a focus fire on the last 25% and took him down.

It was almost 30min fight itself. (Took a while to get use to it) But we did it. Lot of fun, really challenging, out of the ordinary. Best things a boss could have. Thanks Robert

Really this is more of buff in my eyes then anything else.

Still doesn’t change the fact that i’d like my question of why SoW was targeted answered. And how retaliation stacking really isnt affected. Its confusing sometimes when we dont get “developer theory” and insight from their perspective on how they see it.

I can come up with all sorts of reasons on my own about why they changed SoW and Leap of Faith, but it still doesnt change the fact that i’d appreciate a statement from them ellaborating on it. Peace of mind really.

I dont actually think they changed the retaliation mechanics. I’m not positive, but im pretty sure its still doing about 190 per attack received and scaling a bit with power.

They give passive effects when they’re not on cooldown.

If you click or press a virtue down, it’ll have an active effect that goes along with it.

Virtue of Justice – Passive : Every 5th Attack Burn enemy for 1 sec.
Active: Next attack burns enemy for 5sec

Virtue of Resolve – Passive: Gives health regen
Active: Heals for a certain amount instantly

Virtue of Courage – Passive: Gives Aegis every 40sec
Active: Gives Aegis instantly to you and your allies.

They’re quite good and can save your life if you know how to time their active abilities well.

Retaliation Explaination?

Again i’d like to reiterate that i’m not really all that mad about the patch to us guardians. I believe we, even the symbol guardians, will get use to this change and wont be “destroyed” as most would like to hype it up too be.

But again, my curiosity is gnawing away.

You mentioned a fix for Retaliation that was done (accomplished?) through the increased duration of Symbol of Wrath was put to balance Retaliation stacking issues. But then turned and said you wanted to “improve” finisher-type skills of the guardian.

What type of improvement do you wish to see for Finishers? Is something wrong with ours currently?

How does reorganization actually improve finishers? Or was it an effort to make the Combo Field/Finisher usage more obvious and apparent to anyone who couldn’t piece it together themselves?

Symbol of Wrath is also our only Combo Field attached to the GS (not mentioning purging flames or other utilities) so how does that give us an improvement on Finishers by limiting how often we can utilize the Finisher? Which means we should rely on other players combo fields to activate our finishers on.

Not too mention that out of all the professions, we we’re the class that didnt actually get told in the notes that we had anything “reduced” it just stated a whole new Cool Down. I understand this may seem like a trivial thing to most but not too me.

Clear communication is big with me, you guys have usually been absolutely awesome with being clear and precise. But i look at the patch notes, guardians tab, make an issue of a “Boon” but changing “Skills”, Improve Finishers but Penalize Combo Fields.

I’m not angry for a nerf. Ok i’ll deal. No problem

What im angry about is being kept in the dark, not told or informed of key specifics. Told one thing, and see another. Being left to discover the repercussions of the patch by myself.

Im honestly concerned of my choice of profession as of right now and whether or not the almost 200 hours i’ve put into character (my guardian is my one and only character) is going to be for nothing because of the way i interpreted the class before compared to the changes you have in store that we are not aware of.

I hope i’ve stated this as clearly and maturely as possible. I dont want to stop playing this game. But if everytime a patch comes, i should fear my profession being reorganized, it would severely limit the enjoyment i get through playing my profession of choice in this game.

While i only saw this for Guardians, this is an issue that is relevant to all Classes

My solitary point was: Compare your Guardian to the Necromancer in current state, educating yourself on the actual state of both professions, and try to say with a straight face Necromancer is working fine and is well balanced with 1 bug, and this recent patch is such a horrendous disaster.

We know your mad about your bugs. We know you want them fixed. We see that you believe them to have priority. If you’ve posted on your own forums about these bugs then what exactly are you doing here? Sounds like your trying to get a pity party for your profession… oddly enough from the Guardians who are also having to deal with major issues as well.

If you’d like a compiled list of bugs..

Renewed Focus – Doesn’t actually make you invulnerable while casting. Players can still attack, stun, knockdown, etc.

Ring of Warding – Players can jump over, dodge through, teleport

Leap of Faith – Often misses target sending you above their heads resulting in a “Miss” and no Blind Activation.

Shield of Absorbtion – Sometimes activating the first part of this skill (Generating the Bubble) doesnt allow for the use of the second part (Denotation) and often goes wasted.

Hammer of Wisdom (Command) – Tool tip on the command ability states having a 1200 unit range, when activated the hammer will only fly about half that (roughly 600 units), often times falling short of the target. The hammer will not even try to follow up by using standard attacks on the target it will simply be destroyed (or if traited with Eternal Spirit will just return to you) wasting the commands activation.

Judge’s Intervention – Often causes you to either teleport into a wall in which you are stuck in (have to way point out and spend money on top of that). Or teleport below game ground level and fall to your doom(this happen less often then the first in most cases)

Hold The Line – Doesnt play a sound clip saying anything (dont know if its an actual bug)

Symbol of Swiftness (Staff) – Often doesnt apply boons even when clearly walking through it

And these are only the ones i’ve experienced regularly (except for the hammer one, i dont use spirit weapons.)

Every class has its bugs, some more then others, sure. Dont think that your any more entitled then us.

Ya I did notice last night in AC exactly what you said. My whirl went down from 1k-3k to 600-1.8k. I did go for the symbols in the Zeal line. I adjusted to the hammer last night and I was able to keep up the symbols on the ground most of the time.

Will have to see how WvW goes later tonight.

Greatsword is still very viable. But anyone using it as a tool for retaliation or some sort of symbol strategy will be majorly affected by this. Hammer is a good (better for the most part) choice of weapon now for the average guardian. As for me. I’ll be sticking with the Greatsword. I love my greatsword too much to ruin the one aesthetic thing i really enjoy on my guardian, which is my lovely greatsword. Even if i do get ridiculed for it and laughed at, GS guardian till the day i die.

Wizard, how specifically did it affect the Zeal line? (not sarcastic, just curious if I need to rebuild my build now)

With the Recharge time on SoW your essential doing alot lets “DPS” now (not be confused with just DMG)

DPS would be how much dmg you could pump out while under a certain amount of time. By increasing the time it takes in which to use that skill it hampers how many you could using, in lets say 1 min. (Completely randomly numbers here but if i could do it 5times in 1 min and get 1000dmg, now you should be only about to do it about 3 or 4 times and doing only 600-800 dmg. again not actually numbers just the theory behind the nerf to SoW dmg)

Zeal primarly focuses on spirit weapons, power, and symbols. If symbols was what u were going to try and boost with putting points into Zeal. Know now that your SoW has been taken down a notch to what is was previously. I cant be sure how much of an effect it be and whether or not that effect will cause the build to become unviable in sPvP and WvW.

There are players who want to play Guardians beyond just this “support/healing” box that we’re being put into with these updates. Some people want to deal dmg. Especially since that the only way you’ll get any progression through the game (XP, Loot, Badges of Honor, Glory, Event Participation and Legendary Progression) is by apply dmg.

That means even the most Healing/Supportive Guardian has to do SOME DMG in order to not be passed up and left in the dust by other more DMGing and Contributing Professions.

Try farming Karma in Orr and see how well you’ll do getting dmg and loot competeing against 20 other players when they AoE, Whirlwind, and destory the area with HUGE amounts of dmg and your left stuck not dealing enough dmg comparatively and thus are left with no rewards in terms of loot. (you do get your karma tho)

Try tanking in Dungeons when you dont have enough DPS to keep the mobs from scattering. Or how you have the lowest HP and yet are on the front lines the most and have the least viable options for dmg. Im sorry but how are you suppose to “Guard” anyone when your dmg isnt even getting the monsters attention (unless you spec completely for dmg which means when you get the monsters attention, your dead unless you run for you life)

We have weaknesses to our class, were tough but not in any way invincible.

What im slowly coming to realize is the Irony in my choice of Profession. I wanted to protect my friends while braving the front lines with armor forged of the finest of metals, while healing and give my friends the support through boons. But i find myself being squishier, my boons less effective, my damaged hampered.

In this game the only way to protect someone effectively is my doing DMG. Its the only thing that will scary off an opponent. Skills like the shield bubble and Sanctuary will only attract an enemy, have them notice you, and in most cases, leave you waiting for the bubble to come down for your inevitable death by the enemies looking at you like a trapped mouse just waiting for the cage to open.

Reducing our dmg in PvP is going to make us less viable in general and easier to kill.

I wondered a week ago why my guild mates were rolling warriors. Now i know why.
