I did it on my guard using either GS or hammer IDR which. Take the trait that turns Virtue of Justice into AoE, and the other trait that makes work every 4 hits instead of 5. That should give you enough DPS to kill off the oozes and the big ooze.

I have an OCZ Synapse 64GB and before, rolling Swamp in FotM would take around 5 seconds per try. Now it seems to take 10-15s, it’s very painful having to roll levels now. I tried deleting local.dat in My Documents but it didn’t make much of a difference. Before it was about 40MB and now it’s 2MB, but the load times are still very long.

Are you talking about Black Lion Chests? I’m not sure what you mean by “the chest”. I haven’t gotten any support tokens from PvE since the update happened, so maybe that is what you are referring to. If BL Chests are still giving Support Tokens then yes that seems like a bug.

It doesn’t say that the living story is ending in two weeks it only says you can vote for two weeks. And it doesn’t say that on GW2W or the update notes on this forum. They could at least bring back the achievements and let us finish them. We can buy representation buttons and still represent candidates.

It’s not terribly efficient but you can do the tent event at Guardpoint Decimus waypoint in Plains of Ashford. If you see it come up start pinging it in map chat and get as many people as possible. Use an AoE weapon like staff Guardian and you will rack up tons and tons of kills. You can usually get 4-5 fortunes in 8 minutes or less doing this. Not terribly fast as I said but it’s one of the better options I think.

There is about 24 hours left for the people who don’t already have the first place achievement to get it. If you’ve already finished the achievement, don’t get first place so other people can finish theirs. It’s not like you miss out on that much, it’s like 300 karma and an extra item, or something like that.

The current range for /supplyinfo is too small. It seems to be around 300 radius, and when a commander has 20+ players this is a real headache. The commander has to ask the players to stack very tightly for no apparent reason, only to do a supply check. The radius of /supplyinfo should be increased to 1200, maybe even more. Ideally, a commander should be able to check supply for 90% of the players without having to ask them to stack.

Candidate Trials T4

I just finished both my T4 trials, after many many different strats and classes. The only one I had success with was my Thief.

Full Berserker, All Exotics, D/D, Build is the picture, along with the skills

What I did was I stood next to the left portal. Usually you will get 5-7 kills at that portal from the start. Then a plunderer will spawn at the far right portal. I did not worry about him right now because chances are I would have agroed. Instead I stayed and killed any plunders that spawned between the Left and Middle while I waiting for the Right plunderer to return. When he gets close to his portal, I would start heading in range for Pull. I would pull him before he threw the bag, then kill him. After, I would kill any returning plunders and continue to wait around the Left portal. I never ventured out, not even if it ment loseing supplies. I always pulled the Right plunderer on his return, not on his way out. It was more benificial to kill the others as they spawned and the Right when it returned.

As always, I broke agro if I got any, again, even if it ment loseing supplies.

I hope that helps some of you.

Great minds think alike I used identical traits and skills except for Signet of Shadows instead of Blinding Powder. And I used Masterwork gear (except for main dagger) because I couldn’t afford good gear. But even when we both used different skills we were of the same mind to try and avoid agro. As you already said that is the key to success, avoiding agro on left/mid, pulling right.

Candidate Trials T4

XacTactX.6709

I was one of the most vocal critics of the difficulty of T4, but I’ve managed to beat it, and I’ve done it five times in total. This is mostly because it’s genuinely not fun and mastering it was no fun, not because it’s so hard.

No matter what class and build you use the most important thing is: there is an invisible line that separates safe areas from the agro zone. Imagine an invisible line starting from the left spawn, going to the middle spawn, then going to the small pile of big pointy rocks on the right. As long as you don’t go past left spawn, mid spawn, and rocks on the right, you will not take agro. This allow’s you to freely gank the plunderers on the left and middle without any risk. For the right side, you can stand on the pointy rocks and use ranged attacks on the right plunderer. You can also use pull skills (Scorpion Wire on my thief) to bring them over to the rocks, then use melee without taking agro.

Once you get used to this you will get a feel for a pattern of killing plunderers, like left, right, middle, etc. Once you get comfortable with spiking down the plunderers as they come and go without taking agro then victory will be within reach.

Add a sound when calling targets, GW style

in Suggestions

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

The current system doesn’t work well enough. The shouts that characters do when they call a target is centered around that character, if you are far away from the person calling the target you might miss it. Also, phrases of speech are constantly being heard while fighting, having to identify an “Attack my target!” in the middle of all kinds of other sound effects doesn’t do the job. The sound effect for calling targets should be high-pitched, it should be used only for calling targets, and it should play in the speakers of all party members, centered on them, so it sounds the same no matter where they’re standing or what they’re doing.

Add a sound when calling targets, GW style

in Suggestions

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

In GW this is how we knew about a called target.

1. The chat box gives a notification saying “Player1234 has called target on Player5678.”
2. A special symbol would show up in the party window for about 15 seconds, meaning a new target has been called. This sound was only used for calling targets
3. A high-pitched sound would play for all party members as soon as a new target was called.

Like this game, we could press a key (such as T) and target the enemy that has been called. But knowing that a target has been called in this game is too burdensome. Yes, there is a bullseye that appears on top of the enemy, but what if you are not facing the same direction, or the enemy is behind an object and can’t be targeted. An audible sound is unmistakable and reliable, and I really miss it from GW.

I found a solution that you can use if you are impatient like me. I went back and did T3, then T4, both inside of the same instance, without leaving, and it worked. You and I shouldn’t have to do this to make up for buggy achievement tracking, this needs to be fixed, but if you don’t mind doing it again try this solution.

Another user found the same solution, he did T1 -> T4 all in one sitting and got the achievement.

Here is some info in case it might help diagnose the issue. I beat T1 and T2 on the first day that Cutthroat Politics came out. I beat T3 for the first time a few hours before beating T4. Each time that I failed T4, I left the instance and manually restarted because of the Grenadiers that do not leave the instance after failing.

Achievements – There was an initial bug related to how we were tracking player’s progress through the tiers, which did not quite match up with what achievements you had unlocked. We made fixes to that bug, and now player progress for the tiers should be tied to what you’ve unlocked, achievement-wise. There was also an unfortunate bug which was fixed earlier today involving an issue where some of the Aetherblade waves would not spawn. The first bug made the achievements hard to understand, while the second made the achievements easier to attain. I deeply apologize on behalf of our team that these issues led to a less-than-optimal player experience. With these issues fixed, our hope would be that the achievements for the Candidate Trials are clearer and better balanced for their intended difficulty.

Being deeply sorry or not sorry at all doesn’t change this situation. A large number of players had a 3 day window of opportunity where they finished this activity with practically zero trouble or effort because the middle and right sides were not spawning. The rest of us are pulling our hair out trying to do the same thing. What is going to do be done for people like me who still need the achievement and didn’t get to take advantage of this loophole?

Unfix the patch you released on July 26 and give everyone the same opportunity to get the achievements.

Candidate Trials T4

in Cutthroat Politics

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

Greetings, Matthew Medina has asked me to pass on some explanations/clarifications:

There’s been some confusion and spirited conversation regarding the Candidate Trials, and I’d like to take a minute to clear up some of the concerns that have been raised about this content. There’s a lot I’d like to cover, so I hope you’ll bear with me. ?

Difficulty – From the beginning, we wanted to create an event that would truly test player’s abilities to survive, whether solo or in groups. That’s when we came up with the concept of the [Challenge Event]. We wanted to create an event where it was easy to get bronze participation, moderately challenging to achieve silver, and difficult to get gold, and to provide an escalating difficulty curve by making use of tiers that got progressively harder, and progressively harder again with groups. We knew that this would not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we also know that there are many players who are eager to challenge themselves in this way, and we stand by the decision to include content for those players. We made sure to make the lower tiers as accessible for all players and play styles, and the upper tiers (III and IV) a serious challenge! Now, there’s hard and then there’s impossible. I can assure you that completing Tier IV with a group is absolutely possible, but it’s not in any way easy, or even feasible for an uncoordinated group. It requires the utmost concentration and communication, and so our expectation from the beginning was that only a small number of groups would accept the challenge, and even fewer would succeed. I’ve been impressed by the many different methods players are finding to solo Tier IV (Ii’s a feat even I myself have yet to achieve) but I’m just as eager to see what groups come up with to overcome this challenge!

Rewards – There has been some confusion about the most optimal way to acquire the rewards in this event. We are seeing some players contend that the lowest risk option (staying up near the plunderer spawn points and away from the treasure piles) at the highest tier is the optimal path to acquiring an Aetherized weapon. This is wrong…somewhat. ? Employing this method will get you enough kill credit to earn one or two loot bags, but your chances for getting an Aetherized weapon actually increase with each subsequent loot bag that spawns. So if you really, really want to get your hands on some wicked Aetherblade gear, you actually stand to gain much, much more by taking more risks and defeating as many Aetherblades as possible at the highest tier you can manage. The greater the risk, the greater the reward.

I think that covers most of the concerns I’ve read, but the team will continue to monitor feedback on the forums, and if further clarification is needed, rest assured that we will communicate that out to you, our amazing players! Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Matthew Medina
Content Designer

Matthew or Martin, I doubt that it is possible for a team to kill all 50 aetherblades and get gold on T4. If it is in fact possible can you please post a video or screenshot of anyone getting gold on T4? You should be able to if this is a realistic goal.

Thank you.

1. The candidate trials achievements are available for a limited time.

2. The glitch that was fixed on July 26 made this event a joke.

Why did you guys have to fix this glitch now that completing the event is almost impossible? It’s not fair that a large number of people finished candidate trials with so little effort and trouble and now I (and many other people like me) have to spend so much time on it.

If you guys want to release bugfixes, make bugfixes for things that aren’t available for a limited time. Or make bugfixes for things that aren’t nearly impossible without them.

Skyhammer: make it dodgeable

in Suggestions

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

Right now there are two basic strategies if the enemy team holds the skyhammer:

1. Enter the control room and take it back.

2. Run out of the AoE anytime you get targeted.

The skyhammer’s attack should be evadable. Players will be rewarded for using good timing to avoid the blasts, and they can fight on point while being targeted (with a giant disadvantage of having to constantly dodge). Vigor would be more useful because a player with Vigor can dodge every five seconds, roughly the same interval for skyhammer blasts.

When a player does /laugh @, it currently shows up as: Player.1234 laughs with Player.5678. It should be changed to say: Player.1234 laughs at Player.5678.

But wouldn’t that be insulting? Wouldn’t it allow players to degrade one another? Yes it would, and it’s been used for that purpose ~100% of the time since release. No one has ever used the /laugh @ emote because you told a good joke and they wanted to express their amusement with an emote. People use the emote after they’ve killed you in WvW, while they repeatedly jump on top of your corpse and teabag it, filling your chat box with the /laugh @ emote.

Change the actual emote to be more in line with how it’s being used, and change the “with” clause to “at”.

Screwed by the party leader, again.

in Suggestions

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

My suggestion is about the party leader system. As you may know, the party leader has to stay in the group throughout an entire dungeon or fractal, and cannot leave. If the party member leaves the instance, the group gets kicked out. Yesterday, I was doing FotM 16 with a group of players and one of them went AFK while fighting Jade Maw. He didn’t say anything in chat, he just stopped playing and started getting downed by the Jade Maw’s attacks over and over again. Someone else in our party requested a kick. Another player immediately agreed, and we got kicked out of the fractal when Jade Maw had a sliver of health left, and was about to use his final attack that hits everyone. I didn’t get my daily Pristine Relic that day because of this.

This isn’t the first time I’ve lost out on a reward from the party leader system. It also happened to me with FotM 6. We killed Jade Maw, I went to revive a dead teammate, and the party leader left our party before I could open the final chest. Again, kicked out of the instance, no Jade Maw chest, no daily reward chest.

There are dozens of topics going back to October of last year where people have complained about losing their progress because of a party leader, and nothing has changed since then. When I had my first bad experience during FotM 6, I asked the support team to give me 35 Fractal Relics and increase my personal reward level, since it wasn’t my fault. I received many “we are very sorry for your inconvenience” type answers, but they wouldn’t give me what I rightfully deserved. Again, yesterday, I’ve been punished by a poor game mechanic. Stacking durations for food/potion

in Suggestions

XacTactX.6709

That would make current 1h foods pointless.

It would not make long duration foods pointless. If you have five stacks of 30m food you get a maximum of 2.5 hours without refreshing. With 1h food you get 5 hours to refresh. People who can afford the convenience will buy 1h food and people who can’t will refresh a little more often. The 1h foods will still be useful to those who need them, and it will be easier to maintain 30m foods without forgetting to refresh.

Food is a crutch.

Please stay on topic. Food is a buff just like your trinkets. Should food be made more convenient by allowing it to stack duration or not?

Stacking durations for food/potion

There are far too many people with [insert food/potion here] who have a stack but forget to use them. Or if they remember, they use it once, then it expires in 30 minutes and they forget to refresh. Food and potion durations should stack up to 5 times (at least) so people can pop a few of them at a time. To those who say that it’s unrealistic to eat multiple meals at a time, it’s also unrealistic to constantly eat Peach Pies and Omnomberry Bars. Convenience > realism.

Rejuvenation boosters and belcher's bluff

1. When a player enters belcher’s bluff, all healing from other allies are disabled. A friend cannot heal another friend who is doing belcher’s bluff.

2. Food was recently disabled in a patch.

How does it hold that a person can spend money for a specific buff that can bypass this limitation? If a player is meant to regen health while fighting Irongut, those means should be freely accessible to all players without having to spend real money (or convert gold to gems, which still results in the sale of gems). If a player is not supposed to regen health from outside sources, rejuvenation booster buffs should be disabled upon entering belcher’s bluff.

Obsidian Sanctum Campers at Kite [Merged]

I see a lot of people in this thread saying things like “this killed what little interest I may have had in WvW.” I have to make a correction, you didn’t have an interest in WvW to begin with. The people who enter Obsidian Sanctum for the first time or second time during a living story event don’t come there to experience WvW, they’re there to get an achievement. Zerging is a very different experience compared to doing a jumping puzzle or getting ganked by a group. If you really want to experience WvW go play in EBG or your own border where you help the server succeed. That’s how I got into WvW and you should too.

Adnul Irongut Bug.

LOL it’s funny to see all the people complaining above. Not every piece of living story content is going to be easy, and it’s not all designed to be done 100% by everyone. If you can’t handle the challenge don’t ask for a difficulty reduction, try harder. Here are some tips to help you win. Irongut drinks water every 3 rounds just like the player, sometimes he drinks every 4 rounds. Learn the pattern and interrupt it with belch. Don’t drink your water willy nilly, wait until he uses his signature move, that way you don’t have to use skill 1 and take damage as often. It took me about 10 tries to beat him but it’s not impossible.

There is a skill challenge in Iron Marches called the Searing Cauldron. This is a communing spot where you channel for 5 seconds or so. The menu is bugged because it shows the two red swords, as if a fight is going to take place. The swords should be removed.

Belcher's Bluff Spam

Guys, I left some tips on GW2 Wiki for beating Irongut, read it.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Talk:Adnul_Irongut

Or, if you don’t feel like perfecting your skills and getting lucky, have a Guardian help you out. The guard should trait 30 points in Honor, and take the traits Writ of the Merciful, Battle Presence, and a staff. If you want give your friend a bit of silver so he can buy cleric’s armor to boost healing power. Have your friend stand next to you and spam skills 2, 3, and 4 on staff. The person fighting Irongut should be untouchable.

EDIT Never mind, when someone is fighting Irongut none of the healing skills from other party members will work, so a guardian can’t help his friends.

Rank farming with custom PvP arenas

in Suggestions

XacTactX.6709

People make custom hot join servers for SPvP and optimize it as much as possible to quickly earn rank points. They force everyone to play without armor, wear berserker trinkets, prohibit capturing points, and set the respawn timer as low as possible. PvP rank has little meaning when people play PvP in unnatural ways and only farm points as fast as possible. PvP arenas using custom rules (any server not in the standard rules filter) shouldn’t contribute rank points, only glory points.

DC during boss fight, missed dungeon credit

I just did Ascalonian Catacombs story mode for the daily achievement and I disconnected multiple times during the run. Just now, about five minutes ago during the last fight with King Adelbern I disconnected again. He had about 1/10 of his health left when I disconnected. When I came back one minute later I never got the reward chest. I was in the group and I did the dungeon the whole time besides two or three disconnects.

Obsidian Sanctum again?

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: XacTactX.6709

XacTactX.6709

EDIT: If you are on Dragonbrand message me in-game and I’ll show you how to get the kite.

Here are some tips guys, it’s not that complicated. I do Obsidian Sanctum every day for badges. Sometimes I get killed by other players but it’s not a big problem.

1. Ask for a mesmer to drop a portal. I don’t use portals in JPs but if you can’t be bothered to learn how to do the puzzle just press F.

2. Go with other people and especially those who are experienced with it. You’re unlikely to get attacked by individuals if you have allies. A player who knows the puzzle can finish it in about 10 minutes, you won’t finish it in 10 your first time but it’s significantly easier with help.

3. Use friendly emotes like /bow /kneel /wave /salute near enemy players. If you see a griefer use @ emotes like /bow @ at the griefer, it helps. You can’t use /me emotes, /me only shows up as “player1234 gestures” for enemies in WvW.

4. Use the fountains. They give 5 minutes of stealth and disable all your skills. There are a few caveats, first you cannot use stealth in the torch room, the chandelier room, and the dome following the chandelier room. Also, taking damage from an enemy (not falling damage) will remove the stealth given by the fountain.

5. Use a speed boost and run around like you have a purpose. When enemy players see you minding your own business and working hard to finish the puzzle they usually leave you alone.

6. Come back at a later time, sometimes things get heated in WvW and the players get sore so they decide to grief. Try again in a few hours, or during off-peak hours when there isn’t a queue in your server.

Party leader needs tweaking.

BTW I did some more research on this and there are dozens of threads about this issue going back to October, and these threads have had developer responses. Please do some Googling and get informed. The answer was that party leadership could transfer over to another person when the leader leaves, but since there has been no visible change in the last 9 months, it must not be a pressing issue.

Party leader needs tweaking.

During dungeon and fractal runs, and a few other instances, if the person who entered the instance leaves, the rest of the party members get kicked out. This gives the party leader too much power and hurts the other party members. The party leader can open the reward chest at the end, then leave the party before the other players open it, getting them kicked out without credit or rewards. I am writing this from personal experience, I missed credit for FotM today because of this system.

One solution is to have party leader status go to another player when the leader leaves. Even if all the other party members leave the player who wants to stay will be able to continue. I know that many FPS games use this system if they don’t have dedicated servers, the host of the server changes dynamically, and the same could be done here.

Another solution is that as soon as one party member opens the reward chest and gets credit, all of the party members receive the chest and credit. Alternatively, this could only happen when the party leader opens the chest because that person is the only one who can kick the group out.

Teleported out of FotM without Checkbox

XacTactX.6709

Just like it says above, my group killed the Jade Maw and the reward chest appeared. While I was reviving a teammate who was dead, so I didn’t check my box. My teammate didn’t check his box because he was waiting to open the chest too. The group got taken out of the fractal, I didn’t get credit for finishing, my personal reward level didn’t go up, and I missed 35 fractal relics. Same for my teammate.

I’ve been told that if the starter of a dungeon or fractal leaves then the party gets kicked out to Mistlock. Regardless of party mechanics it is an anomaly that we finished the fractal and I didn’t get anything to show for it.

Savable build and equipment templates

This is something I loved in GW. After arranging your skills and attributes (traits in this game) you could name and save your build and then load them anytime, and also ping them in chat, etc. You could do the same with equipment on PvP characters, so if you wanted to experiment with completely different builds on one char you load them and play around. It made it easier for the average player to manage builds and experiment, and this game would really benefit from the old system.

Let new chars enter sPvP immediately.

in Suggestions

XacTactX.6709

Just like it says above, I remember this from GW and it was great. There were two types of characters, a PvE char and a PvP char, the PvP one could use any skills and gear you unlocked, and you could access all the PvP types and outposts immediately. GW2 is similar, but not the same, a new player has to do the starting introduction quest and enter an explorable zone first. This gets in the way of a person who wants to play multiple chars in sPvP. If people did not have to do the starting quest they could use a single nickname for playing sPvP and remake new characters anytime. It would be a lot more convenient, and it’s something I really liked in GW.
